Journey in Concert As the original legends of arena rock, few bands in existence put on a show quite like Journey. Anchored by singer Arnel Pineda's thrilling vocals and Neal Schon's unstoppable guitars, the band continues to show fans, both old and new, exactly how it's done as they tear through marathon sets of classics like "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Open Arms." After a short break from their relentless tour schedule, they're primed to blow minds again in 2014, pairing up with Steve Miller Band for select dates that are sure to be the stuff of classic rock legend for years to come. Journey Background San Francisco-born Journey is the quintessential arena rock band. Assembled in 1973 from the ashes of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch, the band has since gone through a number of line-up changes — only stalwart guitarist Neal Schon has been with every incarnation. Despite a rotating roster, the band has sold 47 million albums in the US, and is consistently named one of the ten best American rock bands in history. While the '70s and '80s provided them with the most commercial success, their current manifestation with Filipino singer Arnel Pineda has given them truly global breadth.

Fans Who Bought Tickets Say "Fabulous show by all. Arnel was spot on and owned the lead role. Great show...will attend every chance I get." "Great show for any age! We went with a group age range 18-43 and had a blast! Who doesn't love Journey!? Really cool show! Lost my voice singing along to every song!" "This was an amazing two-hour boogie with Journey at their best! Lead guitarist Neal Schon's tenacity on the guitar was incredible!"

Reviews 10000

Great concert, insufficient qr code scanners.

Toto and Journey were awesome, however the venue had insufficient QR code scanners. It took close to an hour to get into the venue missing some of Toto's performance.

50 years and still rocking

Overall show was very good, in my opinion the drummer stole the show, amazing drummer and took lead vocals on mother father, incredible voice , if he would or could sing the the whole set I would say it was the best show I’ve seen so far this year.

Birthday Gift

While we saw Journey & Toto last March when they were in Connecticut (much better then in my opinion)....a much needed vacation/break is needed for ALL members. Their voices, especially Journey seemed "stressed"this time around! I get they've been on tour for quite a bit of time but their roadcrew who does the sound board were working overtime to make them sound halfway decent. Don't get me wrong, they're one of my all time top favorite bands but......Also it would of been nice if Toto sang their song "Pamela"to which they didn't the both times we've seen them.

Amazing show

Both the opener and the main act were phenomenal. I couldn't believe how fantastic they both were. So many REALLY talented musicians.

Unbelievable show both Journey & Toto!

Great opener by Toto...all their awesome hits made the crowd get up off their seats and dance! Journey really blew us away! Arnel is such an energetic and unbelievable singer and a great replacement for Steve Perry! Again the crowd was standing and dancing and using their flashlights on their phones to create a lighter effect like the old days!

Journey at Blue Cross Arena

Journey was absolutely alwesome!! They are such great performers and their music is great. They really show that they love preforming and are so in touch with the crowd. I can't wait to see them again. The only complaint, we were in the 7th roll from the stage. Our seats were great untill 2 very tall large men were standing right in front of us. Even standing up I had a hard time seeing. So I wish blue cross arena could come up with better on the floor seating.

Great seats, well organized

Toto and Journey did a great job. Would definitely see both of them again. The only problem with Journey ( I think Journey is an awesome group)...cut out so much guitar solo. Other than that I would definitely see them again. This was my fourth time seeing them.

Absolutely loved Journey and Toto! Would definitely go again!

Journey can do better

I brought my kids to their first concert and we choose Journey as our first band for introduction. My wife and I have seen them two other times, and unfortunately this show was not good, sound quality was very poor, which is odd because Toto had great sound, and was very good. Arnelle voice was struggling and was not carrying the notes to the lyrics which made his sound dis jointed, and off key, then Neil would try to cover with guitar solos' that did allow his talent to shine. It looked liked they just mailed it in, which was sad, half way through the show people started leaving, and that continued right through to their last song.

Super excited

I entered the concert with a bit of trepidation because I'm a Steve Perry fan. But I'm glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the concert overall. The new lead of Journey held his own and did a great job. I wasn't aware that he's been their front man for sixteen years now. I knew more Toto songs than I thought, which made their portion of the show more enjoyable. I even got a T-shirt to commemorate the occasion. Definitely a must see for their 50th anniversary tour. Highly doubt that you'll be disappointed.

ABOUT JOURNEY

Since the group's formation in 1973, JOURNEY has earned 19 top 40 singles, 25 gold and platinum albums, and has sold over 100 million albums globally. Their "Greatest Hits" album is certified 15 times-platinum, making JOURNEY one of the few bands to ever have been diamond-certified, and their song "Don't Stop Believin'" has been streamed over one billion times alone.

JOURNEY was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017, and 2018's co-headlining tour with DEF LEPPARD was the band's most successful tour to date, landing them in the Top 10 year-end touring chart with more than 1 million tickets sold, and earning them the prestigious Billboard "Legends Of Live" touring award. March 2019 saw the release of "Escape & Frontiers Live In Japan", a live DVD/CD set from their concert at the Budokan in Tokyo featuring the band's first-ever performances of the albums "Escape" and "Frontiers" in their entirety. JOURNEY has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and were inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall Of Fame. Additionally, the band is the subject of the award-winning documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" about the band's resurgence upon adding Arnel Pineda as lead singer after JOURNEY Founder, Neal Schon discovered the Philippines native on YouTube.

The members of TOTO are celebrating an accomplishment few bands have achieved in the modern era. Cumulative streams of the ensemble’s repertoire

now exceed 3 billion plays. Amongst the most listened to recordings, “Africa” accounts for over one billion streams at Spotify alone. This year the song was recertified by the RIAA 8X Platinum.

Over the past decade, the band has had a major renaissance in popularity like few bands at this point in their career. The audience is truly multi-generational, becoming younger with each passing year. Joining Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams are band members bassist John Pierce (Huey Lewis and The News), drummer Robert “Sput” Searight (Ghost-Note, Founding member Snarky Puppy, Snoop Dogg), keyboardist Dominique “Xavier” Taplin (Prince, Ghost-Note), multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Warren Ham (Ringo Starr) and keyboardist / background vocalist Steve Maggiora,. This line-up marks the fifteenth incarnation of Toto in consideration of band members or sidemen who joined or exited. Individually and collectively, few have had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. The family tree can be heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a half a billion albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with hundreds of Grammy nominations.

With now 45+ years together and literally thousands of credits, including the biggest selling album of all time: Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and accolades to their names, TOTO remains one of the top selling touring and recording acts in the world. They are the benchmark by which many artists base their sound and production, and they continue to transcend the standards set by the entire music community, being simply synonymous with musical credibility. They are pop culture and are one of the few 70’s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles continuing to remain relevant.

Members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band will bring their “Freedom Tour 2023” to Colonial Life Arena on Feb. 10, 2023 .

Journey will be joined by fellow classic rock stars Toto , promoters said in a news release.

“Excited to perform for our fans as we tour next year with Toto,” Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain said in the release. “The combined hits of both bands represent a couple of decades of excellence that have become a soundtrack for people’s lives.”

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, but a presale will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com . Any tickets that are still available after Friday can be purchased the next business day online or at the Colonial Life Arena box office.

The Columbia show is one of the first concerts the band will play in 2023 as it continues its 50th anniversary tour, according to the release.

It’s the only scheduled stop in South Carolina for Journey, which will perform in Greensboro, North Carolina, the following night in its only other show in the Carolinas.

Journey was most prominent in the 1970s and 80s, but hit songs like “Don’t Stop Believin,” “Any Way You Want It,” “Faithfully,” “Lights,” and “Wheel In The Sky,” among others, have sustained the group’s popularity for decades and introduced it to new generations of fans.

Journey has 19 top-40 singles, 25 gold and platinum albums, and has sold more than 100 million albums globally, according to the release. Journey’s “Greatest Hits” album is certified 15 times-platinum, making the group one of the few bands to ever have been diamond-certified, and the song “Don’t Stop Believin’” has been streamed over one billion times.

The group that was formerly fronted by Steve Perry was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017. Current lead singer, Arnel Pineda, is a native of the Philippines who was discovered on YouTube by Journey’s founder and lead guitarist Neal Schon, promoters said.

“On behalf of myself and the band, we are very honored and excited to do this tour with our old and dear friends Journey,” Toto’s Steve Lukather said in the release.

Toto has streamed more than 3.3 billion plays on Spotify based on hit songs “Rosanna,” “Africa,” and “Hold the Line,” promoters said.

The members of JOURNEY celebrated the album's release by kicking off a residency featuring special symphony orchestra performances at the new, state-of-the-art Resorts World Casino in Las Vegas.

As JOURNEY 's legend continues to grow larger and their touring gets bigger, "Freedom" is the band’s first album of new material to be released in eleven years, since 2011's "Eclipse" , and in addition to Schon , along with longtime keyboard player and primary lyricist Cain and Pineda , one more member was recruited for the LP — bassist extraordinaire Randy Jackson , who had played on JOURNEY 's 1986 album "Raised On Radio" .

Inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017, JOURNEY has 25 gold and platinum albums, with total sales adding up to over 100 million albums worldwide, earning the band two Diamond Awards with a third on the way for the "Frontiers" album. JOURNEY has also surpassed one billion streams on Spotify .

COLUMBIA — For an album that started as a spontaneous living room jam/recording session, “Cowboys and Cocaine” turned into a pointed and witfully constructed carousel of songs that provoke both laughter and contemplation.

The collaborative album sprung from a friendship between the Columbia band Cocaine Fairies (Henry Luther, Ben Martin and Preston Kornharens) and Athens, Ga., songster-provocateur and “queer anarcho cowpunk,” Cowboy Kerouac. “Cowboys and Cocaine” offers nine tracks, which embody classic country and folk twang paired with lyrics that offer a critical eye to the classic tropes of Southern judgment and religious values.

“Everyone’s a Little Gay” jokingly points out how queerness moves through many spaces and challenges expectations for masculinity and expression, quippingly pointing out the internalized homophobia men often bury deep down and crack jokes about.

“Young Autistic Deadbeat Daddy Blues” is a ballad led by Cowboy Kerouac that pushes back on the traditional narrative country song with its tumbling journey to gay/neurodivergent lived experiences in a satirized and grandiose manner.

Right-brained journey: young creators’ ongoing fight for a home in Columbia arts economy

  • By Eden Prime Special to the Free Times

“Valley of the Vanishing Man” and “The Ashes of a Dyin’ Man (Burn it Down)” bring a more solemn tone to the album, conjuring impressions of decline of culture and erasure of things once held sacred. The resounding conclusion is one of both activism and authenticity.

Imbuing music with humor offers an “in” to creating a counter narrative for country music with the “Cowboys and Cocaine” collaborators.

Like other South Carolina native country/folk artists like She Returns From War and Yes Ma’am, Cocaine Fairies attempt to carve out a corner of the genre by placing their work in opposition to the stereotypes about country and folk music, making space for alternative ways of expression through a deeply nostalgic and quintessentially American genre.

“For me as an artist, I feel like if I’m going to create any kind of art it needs to be true to what I believe and think,” said Henry Luther, frontman and songwriter for the Cocaine Fairies. “For me, the songs I wrote for the album are just things I spend time thinking about, and it comes from an honest place.”

For Luther, Cowboy Kerouac and their bandmates, music is a useful tool for starting conversations and questioning the status quo of the culture they were born into.

Even though most of the tracks on “Cowboys and Cocaine” are boisterously lyrical and laced with catchy sing-along choruses, the album as a whole tends to err on the side of cultural criticism in a way that pokes fun at the moral hang-ups in traditional American culture and politics.
