We live just outside of Charlotte but have been in the area for about 5+ years. My partner booked a tour of uptown Charlotte for my birthday as a surprise. What a lovely surprise! Mackenzie was an excellent guide, she was casual, knowledgeable, and paced the tour perfectly. She told Amelies it was my birthday ahead of time so I even got an extra surprise when we arrived. Overall, the restaurants and spots we visited were amazing. I would recommend this experience highly and will even be sending the in-laws as their Christmas present!

We enjoyed great food and great drinks! Our host was so nice and informative! Highly recommend!

Went on a brunch tour with Johnny and had the absolute best time! Equal parts good food and good times! Would absolutely book again! This is absolutely for locals too - I've lived in CLT for 8.5 years and got to see the Queen City in a whole new light!

We took the Saturday evening tour this weekened with MaKenzie. We've lived near Charlotte for 20 years, but don't get uptown very often. I surprised my wife with the tour and had another couple join us. We had 7 people in the party and had a wonderful time. The food and drinks were wonderful & it was a great evening. MaKenzie was super sweet and took great care of us. I'd definitely recommend the tour & we have some spots we want to go back and eat again!

I've lived in Charlotte for 6 years and had friends visiting from Chicago. This was the perfect, laid-back activity for a Saturday for us! Johnny was incredible. He has amazing energy! All of the restaurants we visited were fun, diverse and a great representation of locally owned businesses in Charlotte. I definitely recommend this tour- whether you have visitors in town or if you just want to do something fun in your own city!

Where To Shop

Where to stay.

Whether you're a beer buff, a sports fan, or into the arts, you'll find something to love during a visit to Charlotte, North Carolina. Located in the central Piedmont region near the South Carolina border, Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and one of the fastest-growing cities in the South. Known as a major center for finance and banking, the Queen City also attracts attention for its beautiful greenways and creative culinary scene.

There's always something to do in the city between the museums, sporting events, and eclectic restaurants and breweries. Did we mention that Charlotte is the home of NASCAR, too? Here are some of Charlotte's must-see spots to add to the itinerary for your next trip.

Appreciate Art At Mint Museum Uptown

Uptown Charlotte is home to several museums all within an easy walk of each other. Stop by the Mint Museum, North Carolina's first art museum, to enjoy exhibits on contemporary and ancient art, decorative arts, and design. Several large public sculptures installed around town are also managed by Mint.

mintmuseum.org , 500 South Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28202

See 'The Firebird' At Bechtler Museum Of Modern Art

From the Mint Museum, you can take a quick stroll to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. A 17-foot French mosaic sculpture, "The Firebird," presides over the welcome plaza. The museum was designed by a Swiss architect and holds the collection of Bessie and Hans Bechtler. You can see works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and many other 20th-century artists.

Expand Horizons At Harvey B. Gantt Center For African-American Arts + Culture

Visit the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, named for the local trailblazer who was Charlotte's first African-American mayor. Admire the permanent collection of African-American and Haitian art as well as traveling exhibits, which often feature contemporary artists.

ganttcenter.org , 551 South Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28202

Entertain The Kids At Discovery Place

Those with little travelers in tow should add a visit to Discovery Place to the itinerary. The hands-on science museum is equal parts fun and educational. Labs, live shows, and IMAX movies add to the educational experience.

discoveryplace.org , 301 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28202

Activities For Sports Fans

Cheer on your favorite team.

Visiting during baseball season? Make sure to catch a Charlotte Knights game. Truist Field, home of the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, was recently voted the Best Ballpark in Minor League Baseball, and for good reason. It's a gorgeous place to enjoy America's pastime. Nearby in Uptown Charlotte, NFL fans can catch a game with the Carolina Panthers at the Bank of American Stadium, or fans of professional soccer can cheer on Charlotte's newly minted team, Charlotte FC , from March until October. NBA fans can see the Charlotte Hornets play at the Spectrum Center in Uptown Charlotte.

Visit The NASCAR Hall Of Fame

NASCAR fans will want to make a pit stop at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Uptown. Interactive exhibits document the history of NASCAR in the Hall of Fame, which also honors the legends in the sport. Major fans can time their visit with an induction and see stars walk the red carpet.

Compete In A Friendly Match Of Pickleball

You've probably never been to a pickleball court like the one at Rally, Charlotte's new pickleball social club. In addition to indoor and outdoor courts, this stylish complex also includes an outdoor cocktail bar, a cafe featuring a craft coffee program, and a restaurant and bar called The Annex that's inspired by aprés-ski culture. There's no cooler place to break a sweat.

With 1,300 acres of land and more than 50 miles of trails, there's plenty of room to hike, bike, or try your hand at standup paddle boarding.

Two people smiling at the camera.

Festival season is officially here, marking the start of a series of delicious events across the Carolinas. From celebrity-chef-studded soirees to local shindigs celebrating beloved ingredients, you could easily fill your calendar with a new food festival every month. While by no means comprehensive, the following list highlights some of the most exciting culinary events happening in North Carolina and South Carolina. Buy a ticket, pack your appetite, and get ready to party.

Charleston Wine + Food, March 6-10

The 800-pound gorilla in the room, CHSWF is easily the marquee food festival in the Carolinas. Taking place in early March each year, it draws culinary talent from far and wide. This year’s event features beverage professionals and chefs like Amanda Freitag, Andre Hueston Mack, Ashleigh Shanti, Dano Heinze, Feme Oyediran, Jaime Davis, Keith Rhodes, Ricky Moore, Paola Velez, Steven Satterfield, Tiffani Thiessen, and more. Events are organized around a series of chef’s dinners, wine and spirits tasting, and the signature Culinary Village. Tickets and full schedule at charlestonwineandfood.com .

Euphoria, September 19-22

View this post on Instagram A post shared by euphoriagreenville (@euphoriagreenville)

Greenville, South Carolina's signature food festival returns this upcoming fall. It’s a celebration of the city’s robust restaurant scene that also sees national talent stopping by to take part. This year’s talent lineup and schedule have yet to be set, but past years have included educational classes, wine tastings, and a grand tasting at the Fluor Field stadium. If waiting until September sounds too hard, they have a “mini-Euphoria” entitled Spring Fest happening April 18-21, featuring classes, tastings, and a signature Roast and Toast event. Tickets and schedule at euphoriagreenville.com .

BayHaven Food and Wine Festival, October TBD

Founded by Charlotte’s Greg and Subrina Collier (Leah & Louise, Uptown Yolk, 3rd, and Fernwood), BayHaven has quickly become one of the nation’s premier festivals celebrating Black food and beverage. Taking place around early October each year, BayHaven brings talented Black chefs, winemakers, mixologists, artists, and musicians to Charlotte for four days of dinners, classes, and tasting events. Think family reunion meets chef’s dinner. Past talent has included Spring Council, Ashleigh Shanti, Cleophus Hethington, Courtney Evans, Selasie Dotse, and more. Dates for 2024 have yet to be announced, but pay attention to bayhavenfoodandwine.com for details.

Feast Wilmington, March 22-24

charlotte north carolina food tours

The Port City’s food scene has been booming of late, so it’s only appropriate that they get their first proper food festival with Feast Wilmington. An idea originally developed by mayor Bill Saffo and Wilmington’s Downtown Business Alliance, this inaugural event will be produced by the folks behind Wilma Magazine and the Wilmington Business Journal. Hosted alongside the Cape Fear River at Live Oak Banks Pavilion, the program is centered around a series of four large tasting events, including a VIP Kickoff, Brunch Elevated, Pier Party, and Craft & Cuisine (in conjunction with the Cape Fear Craft Beer Alliance). Guests can expect talent from area mainstays and newcomers like Hi-Wire Brewing, Dram Yard, Poe’s Tavern, Solstice, Kipos, End of Days Distillery, Olivero, and more. Tickets and schedule at feastwilmington.com/ .

Florence Wine & Food Festival, April 4-6

Organized by Southern food legends Matt and Ted Lee, the Florence Wine & Food Festival in Florence, South Carolina, is an intimate event that draws in high-wattage star power. This year Vivian Howard is the headlining talent, and Food & Wine Magazine’s Ray Isle will be on hand to lead a special wine tasting. Programming includes seated dinners, walk-around tastings, and a unique Sip & Savor wine stroll through downtown Florence. Tickets and schedule at florencewineandfood.com .

Highlands Food & Wine, November 7-10

charlotte north carolina food tours

Good eats and mountain luxury can be found in Highlands, North Carolina, each fall with Highlands Food & Wine. Guests decked out in their finest Burberry and leather cowboy hats brave the mountain fall temperatures to feast on treats from chefs, winemakers, distillers, and brewers from across the Carolinas and beyond. Past participants have included Brady Martin of Kinfolk, Joe Cash of Scoundrel, Masa Hamaya of O-Ku, and Sam Hart of Counter. Music is a big component of this festival, and tickets usually sell out fast, so make plans early. The 2024 lineup hasn’t been set yet, but keep an eye on highlandsfoodandwine.com .

Frankie Lemmon Event Series, Year-Round

Each year, the foundation that supports the Frankie Lemmon School, a nonprofit school for children with developmental disabilities based in Raleigh, puts on a series of fundraising events centered around food and wine. James Beard Award-winning Chef Ashley Christensen and her friend and philanthropist Eliza Kraft Olander have been the driving forces behind the signature Triangle Wine and Food Experience Events , though the foundation recently recruited Inez Ribustello (formerly of Tarboro Brewing Company and Tarboro’s On the Square), as hospitality director. 2024 talent includes Vivian Howard, Steven Devereaux Greene, Emeril Lagasse, Katie Button, Matt Kelly, and more for a year-long series of dinners at private homes and exclusive venues around the Triangle. In addition to Triangle Wine and Food, this year, Frankie Lemmon has teamed up with Lawrence Barbecue’s Jake Wood for “Gettin’ Piggy With It,” a barbecue party in mid-May at Maywood Hall & Garden.

Still hungry for more delicious food festivals? Here’s a quick and dirty rundown of some of the other iconic events across North and South Carolina:

I attended the brunch cruise on Easter Sunday aboard the Lady of the Lake yacht on Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC. It was such an amazing experience! The brunch food was excellent! The cocktails were amazing! I ate indoors on the yacht with amazing views of the lake and lots of boats in the water...sail boats, speed boats, catamarans, etc. The Captain of the yacht, the servers, the cooks and bartenders were extremely nice and accommodating! I will be doing this again! I'll likely try the dinner cruise with live entertainment.

We took the sunset cruise and let me just say the service from the workers was absolutely wonderful. The drinks were great and affordable. Views as you can see in the pictures were great. Would definitely recommend everyone try this at least once while in Hawaii

Lady of The Lake. This experience was everything! Well worth the money. Beautiful place. The food was well seasoned and delicious. The staff was nice and professional. Especially our bartender Thomas he rocks and make awesome drinks. The only bad thing I can say is the music was only geared towards the really older crowd and I'm 51. But there was not a good mix of music for everyone. And alot of real slow music no upbeat music. But the ride was stunning. We will do again.

A great place for a day out on the lake. I did the Easter brunch ride on lady of the lake and it was amazing. Food was delicious, drinks were wonderful and the whole atmosphere was fantastic. Great customer service as well. We had the perfect weather too so it worked out completely. Highly recommend doing one of their tours.
