end trip on turo

Introduction

Renting a car can be an exciting experience, especially when you’re using a service like Turo. Turo is a peer-to-peer car rental platform that connects travelers with car owners who are willing to rent out their vehicles. But while renting a car through Turo can be an enjoyable experience, it’s important to remember that you need to follow the proper steps when returning the vehicle. In this article, we’ll provide some tips on how to end a trip on Turo.

Research Your Car’s Return Requirements

Before you even begin your trip, take some time to research the return requirements for your rental car. While many of the requirements will be the same for all cars, there may be some specific instructions from the owner that you need to be aware of. Make sure you understand the requirements before you start your trip so you know what to expect when it comes time to return the vehicle.

When researching the return requirements, make sure you also look into any fees or charges associated with the return. Some owners may charge a fee if you don’t return the car on time or if you return it in an unclean condition. Make sure you understand these fees before you start your trip so you don’t end up being charged unexpectedly.

Make Sure You Have All Necessary Documents

Make Sure You Have All Necessary Documents

When you’re ready to return the car, make sure you have all of the necessary documents. This includes the rental agreement, proof of insurance, and any additional forms that may be required by the owner. Having all of these documents on hand will make the return process much smoother and will help to ensure that everything is in order.

Clean the Vehicle

When returning the car, it’s important to make sure it’s clean both inside and out. Take some time to vacuum the interior, wipe down any surfaces, and remove any garbage. The exterior should also be washed and dried, and any dirt or debris should be removed. If you don’t have time to do a thorough cleaning, at least make sure the vehicle is presentable and free of clutter.

Refill the Gas Tank

Most owners will require you to refill the gas tank before you return the car. Make sure you have enough money to fill the tank to the amount specified by the owner. If you don’t, you could be charged a fee for not refilling the tank. Also, make sure you only use the type of fuel specified by the owner to avoid any additional fees.

Take Photos of the Vehicle

Take Photos of the Vehicle

Before returning the car, take some photos of the interior and exterior. This will help protect you from any false damage claims from the owner. Make sure you take pictures from different angles and in different lighting conditions so you have evidence of the vehicle’s condition when you returned it.

Contact Turo After Returning the Vehicle

Once you’ve returned the vehicle, make sure you contact Turo to let them know the car has been safely returned. This will help ensure that you receive your final invoice as quickly as possible. It’s also a good idea to check in with the owner to let them know the car was returned in the same condition as when you received it.

Ending a trip on Turo doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. By following these simple steps, you can ensure a smooth transition and avoid any unexpected fees or charges. Research the return requirements, make sure you have all necessary documents, clean the vehicle, refill the gas tank, take photos of the vehicle, and contact Turo after returning the vehicle. By doing these things, you can make sure your trip ends on a high note.

Key Takeaways

  • Turo allows renters to extend their trip if needed, but following the proper procedures and communicating effectively with the host is essential.
  • Renters should submit a trip change request through the Turo app or website to extend their trip, and the host will be notified of the request.
  • Before extending the trip, renters should check the availability of the car on the Turo platform to ensure another user does not already book it.
  • Renters should communicate clearly and respectfully with the host when requesting to extend their trip and be aware of any additional fees or charges that may apply.
  • If the host does not approve the request to extend the trip, renters may need to explore alternative options or find a different rental car.

Submitting a Trip Change Request

If you need to extend your trip on Turo, you can easily do so by submitting a trip change request through the Turo app or website. Here’s how:

Step-by-Step Guide

  • Open the Turo app or website and log in to your account.
  • Go to your trip itinerary and click “Request trip change.”
  • Choose the new dates and times that you would like to extend your trip to.
  • Write a brief message to the host explaining why you must extend your trip.
  • Click “Submit Request.”

How is the host Notified?

Once you submit the trip change request, the host will be notified via email and the Turo app .

They will then have 8 hours to either approve or deny your request.

If the host approves your request, your trip will automatically be updated with the new dates and times, and you’ll be charged for the additional rental period.

Checking Car Availability

Before extending your trip on Turo, you must check the availability of the car you’re renting.

This will help you avoid any potential conflicts or issues with the host.

To check the availability of the car, go to the Turo app or website and enter the dates you want to extend your trip to.

If the car is available for those dates, you can proceed with submitting a trip change request.

If the car is unavailable, you must consider other options or adjust your travel plans accordingly.

Checking the availability of the car you’re renting is a quick and easy process that can save you time and hassle down the road.

By taking a few moments to verify the availability of the car, you can ensure that your extended trip goes smoothly and without any surprises.

Tips for Extending Turo Trip

Extending your Turo trip can be a great option to prolong your adventure, but it’s essential to do it right.

Here are some practical tips to help you navigate the process smoothly:

Communicate with the Host: Reach out to the host as soon as possible to discuss the possibility of extending your trip.

Be courteous, and explain why you want to extend your rental.

If the car is not available for the desired extension, the host may be able to suggest other options.

Check Availability: Before requesting an extension, check the availability of the car on the Turo app or website.

If the car is not available, you won’t be able to extend your rental.

Understand fees : Extending your trip may incur additional fees.

Be sure to read and understand Turo’s policies regarding trip extensions before requesting one.

Remember that the host may also charge an additional fee for the extension.

Be Flexible: Be willing to negotiate with the host on the terms of the extension.

If you’re willing to pay more, you may be able to extend your trip for longer or at a more convenient time.

What Happens if the Request is Not Approved

If the host does not approve your trip extension request, you have a few options to consider.

Firstly, you can try to negotiate with the host directly to find a mutually beneficial solution that allows you to keep the car for longer.

However, if the host still does not approve the extension request, you must return the car as scheduled to avoid incurring any late fees.

Alternatively, you can rent a different car on Turo to continue your travels.

Turo has a wide variety of cars available for rent, and you may be able to find a vehicle that suits your needs for the remainder of your trip.

It is crucial to keep in mind that if you do not return the car on time, you may be charged late fees, and if you continue to use the vehicle without approval from the host, you may be in breach of the rental agreement and subject to additional charges or penalties.

Being proactive and communicative with your host can increase your chances of getting your trip extension request approved.

But it is always good to have a backup plan if things don’t go as planned.

Congratulations, you are now equipped with the knowledge of how to extend your Turo trip!

Always communicate with your host, check car availability, and submit a trip change request on time.

While a request may not always be approved, alternative options are available.

What is Turo?

Turo rental car prices: are they a good or bad deal, when renting a car with turo is a smart money move, is renting a car on turo worth it.

Ever considered renting a car from the actual owner? Turo, a peer-to-peer car sharing platform, lets you do just that. The car rental alternative allows you to potentially save money compared to traditional rentals. Plus, it unlocks more potential places to rent cars beyond standard rental car facilities.

But is Turo the right fit for you? Here's your guide to renting a car through Turo, including the pros, the cons — and any potential fees to watch out for.

Turo is a peer-to-peer car sharing platform that allows car owners to rent out their own cars to regular people. Consider it a sort of Airbnb for cars .

Peer-to-peer car sharing platforms are growing in popularity. The global car sharing market was worth $2.9 million in value in 2022, and is expected to grow 20% annually from 2023 to 2032, according to January 2024 data from market researcher Allied Market Research. That would make the market for car sharing services, including Turo, worth $17.8 million by 2032.

Interest in Turo especially exploded in the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was an era of high rental car prices , high demand for cars to take on roadtrips and limited rental car availability. After all, skyrocketing rental car prices became one of the biggest pandemic-era travel stories as they hit record highs in July 2021. Given all that, alternative rental car services like Turo were often a lifesaver.

And while rental car prices have eased from their record highs set in the early years of the pandemic, they're still high. Car rental prices in February 2024 are up 23.6% versus February 2020 — the last month pre-lockdowns in the U.S.

But while Turo car rentals can provide an excellent rental car alternative, it’s not necessarily better. It's also not always cheaper. Here are some of the times you might consider booking with Turo, and what to look sorts of fees and potential pitfalls to look out for if you do:

Turo prices are highly variable. Sometimes they can be cheaper than traditional rental cars because car owners set the prices.

A car owner who now works from home and has minimal need for a car during the week might be inclined to make it available on Turo at a low price to make some extra cash or even to get some value out of a car that's otherwise sitting idle.

Many owners offer discounts for longer trips, and some offer discounts to guests who book at least a week in advance.

Beware of extra Turo fees

The total cost to rent on Turo might balloon once extra fees kick in.

end trip on turo

A 10-hour rental advertised at $30 per day can easily become twice that. In this example, there’s a mandatory $15 trip fee. Then, Turo adds standard protection for $12 by default (though you can decline damage protection). You might include extras such as a pet fee, child safety seat, unlimited mileage or prepaid refuel.

Here are some examples of Turo fees you may be on the hook for before checking out:

Turo trip fee. Turo adds a trip fee at checkout that goes to Turo (not the owner). Fees vary, but in the U.S., trip fees range from 2.5% to 100% of the overall price.

Turo young driver fee. Folks under 24 owe a young driver fee (a minimum of $50 per day if under 21 or $30 per day if under 25 in the U.S.).

Miscellaneous extras. You may also owe other fees including airport fees, pickup or return fees, and optional extras like unlimited mileage (many rentals have a mileage cap).

And the fees might not end there, adding to why Turo could be wrong for folks anxious about potentially unknown costs.

Reimbursement bills. Hosts can send renters a reimbursement invoice for all sorts of potential situations. That might include fuel replacement, distance overages, failure to return an EV with charge, tickets and tolls, if applicable.

Turo cleaning fees . If you return a car in a condition that violates Turo’s cleaning and disinfection policy, the host can report the issue to the company. If Turo sides with the host, you’ll owe $150 for the cleaning violation plus a 3% processing fee.

Video preview image

Turo explicitly says that renters “aren’t expected to clean or disinfect the car before returning it,” but there's a gray area between what Turo considers normal wear and tear versus what teeters into violation territory.

“Significant amounts of pet hair” are a violation, as are “major stains or residue,” but “minor food or beverage spills” are OK.

Plenty of renters have documented negative experiences of receiving violation penalties they felt were unjustified, leading to back and forths with customer service to get those fees removed — or just paying the fine.

Your personal or credit card insurance may not apply to Turo

Turo offers three optional protection plans at an additional cost, each with increasingly more insurance coverage: a minimum, standard and premier plan.

Depending on the level of add-on insurance from Turo selected, prices in the U.S. start as low as $10 per rental day. It’s pretty easy to compare and add plans at checkout.

You can decline protection, but you (or possibly your own personal insurance company, if covered) are responsible for all costs related to physical, mechanical, and interior damage, plus administrative claims fees and appraisal costs.

Usually NerdWallet recommends holding a credit card that offers car rental insurance , which provides some level of free protection for rental cars paid for on that card. Some of the best credit cards with car rental insurance benefits even offer primary rental car coverage, so you don’t have to use your personal auto insurance.

However, when renting on Turo, don’t assume your personal auto insurance policy or credit card coverage works in the same way it applies to traditional rental cars.

Many credit card car rental insurance benefits specifically exclude coverage for peer-to-peer car rental companies , such as Turo.

“Turo is not a rental car company,” according to a post on Turo’s site. “We’re a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform, so credit card companies may provide no coverage for a car booked through Turo.”

Popular credit cards consumers leverage for car rentals

To better understand if Turo is the right fit for your car rental needs, compare its three protection plans with insurance, reimbursement and rewards rate details about credit cards commonly used when renting a car. Options can include:

There are a few situations where renting a car through Turo makes especial sense:

If you can pay for your rental car upfront

Turo has a generous cancellation policy, allowing you to cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the trip starts. Trips canceled within 24 hours of the start time are typically entitled to a partial refund.

Refunds are issued immediately, though it can take three to five business days to receive the money.

While Turo’s cancellation policy is relatively generous, you still must pay upfront.

In contrast, most rental car companies allow payment at the counter. That’s convenient because if your travel plans change and you can no longer rent the car, you likely won’t be on the hook for a rental car reservation you didn’t show up for (though some do charge a no-show fee).

If Turo is more convenient to your destination

Turo operates in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France and the U.K.

What’s unique about Turo is the range of places you’ll find the vehicles. Traditional rental car companies typically operate in places with a lot of tourists, such as airports, downtowns and hotels. But with Turo, you could very well find a car available from the home next door.

end trip on turo

The map’s purple dots indicate available vehicles. You might find one in a location far more convenient than the nearest traditional rental car.

That’s convenient for someone who is usually car-free but wants to rent one every once in a while from a neighbor. Travelers who want a car only for part of their trip might skip the airport rental car and rent a Turo nearby for the days they need it.

But Turo isn’t available in every city. While it’s now available in all 50 states, it wasn’t until June 2022 that Turo launched in New York state. And within each state, Turo is still expanding. Availability is largely contingent upon whether a host is willing to post their car for rent.

If you need special pickup and drop-off locations or times

When renting from many rental car companies, you’re tied to their operating hours. That’s annoying if your flight lands at 9 p.m. but the rental car company closes at 8.

Many Turo rentals, however, are available for drop-off and pickup 24/7 because of a built-in service called Turo Go. Turo Go allows renters to unlock cars directly from the Turo app, thus never needing to meet the host in person.

Other hosts prefer in-person exchanges. The owner might pick you up at the airport and drive you to your hotel before handing over the keys (typically for an additional fee, though some hosts offer the service for free).

Turo’s delivery service can be especially convenient if you want the car for only a few days or a few hours.

While the range of pickup options can certainly be a pro, it also adds layers of complication — and it means your next Turo experience won’t be exactly like your last.

Read the pickup and drop-off rules carefully, as they vary by owner. Some cars are parked in facilities requiring a fee to exit. While Turo requires hosts to disclose such fees in their vehicle listing, it’s still one more annoying cost.

While Turo Go can certainly be convenient, you must have Wi-Fi or cellular data to unlock the car at the start of the trip. And you won’t have in-person customer support, which might pose challenges if you run into any problems upon pickup.

For one-way rentals, it’s tricky. You’re not able to book one location for pickup and a different location for return.

There is a one-way rental workaround where you can request to change your pickup or drop-off location once the trip is booked, but you’d have to work that out with the host — and it’s not guaranteed they’ll accept.

Turo can provide myriad benefits. Especially in big cities, you might find a car in far more convenient locations. Turo Go enables pickup and drop-off at any hour, so you’re not constrained by rental car companies’ operating hours.

Because much of the rental price goes directly back to the car’s owner, more money stays in local communities. Turo often offers a range of cars, from a tiny Smart Car to electric vehicle rentals to flashy muscle cars.

But renting on Turo also entails high variability. The experience is rarely consistent, nor are the cars (or their owners). A vehicle might have squeaky brakes, and some owners might have higher cleaning standards than others.

If Turo doesn't have sufficient options, but you're generally enticed by such rental car alternatives , you might also consider Turo's competitors, such as Getaround .

Sometimes Turo is cheaper, but once the fees add up (and you realize your credit card car rental insurance likely won’t kick in), it’s not always as budget-friendly as you might think.

How to End a Turo Trip Early

When using Turo, a popular peer-to-peer car rental platform, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to end your trip earlier than planned. Whether it’s due to a change in your travel itinerary or unexpected circumstances, Turo provides a simple process to help you wrap up your trip ahead of schedule. In this detailed article, we will guide you through the various steps and subtopics necessary to successfully end your Turo trip early.

1. Understanding Turo’s Early Trip Termination Policy

Before diving into the process, it’s important to familiarize yourself with Turo’s policy on ending trips early. Turo allows renters to end their trips at any time, but keep in mind that doing so may result in additional costs. Turo’s policy states that if you end your trip early, you will still be responsible for paying for the full duration of the original reservation, unless the host agrees to a modification.

1.1 Additional Costs for Ending a Trip Early

If you decide to end your Turo trip before the original reservation period is over, you may incur additional costs. This can include fees for the unused portion of the trip, as well as any applicable cancellation fees. It’s essential to review the specific terms and conditions of your reservation to understand the potential financial implications of ending your trip early.

2. Communicating with your Turo Host

Once you have made the decision to end your Turo trip early, the first step is to communicate with your host. Open and clear communication is crucial to ensure a smooth process and avoid any misunderstandings. Here’s how you can effectively communicate with your Turo host:

2.1 Contacting the Host

Use the Turo platform to send a message to your host, explaining your situation and the reason for ending the trip early. Be polite and respectful in your message, as hosts will appreciate your consideration. Provide them with the exact date and time you wish to return the vehicle.

2.2 Negotiating a Modification

If your host agrees to end the trip early, you can negotiate a modification to the original reservation. This will update the booking details on the Turo platform to reflect the new end date and time. It’s important to reach a mutual agreement with your host on any potential changes to avoid any disputes later on.

3. Modifying Your Turo Reservation

Once you have reached an agreement with your host, the next step is to modify your Turo reservation accordingly. Follow these steps to successfully modify your reservation:

3.1 Accessing Your Reservation

Log in to your Turo account and navigate to the “Trips” section. Locate the trip you wish to modify and click on it to access the reservation details.

3.2 Requesting a Modification

Within the reservation details, you will find an option to “Request Change” or “Modify Trip.” Click on this option to initiate the modification process.

3.3 Updating Reservation Dates

In the modification request form, update the end date and time to reflect the new desired return time. Make sure to provide accurate information to avoid any confusion.

3.4 Submitting the Modification Request

Review the modification details and double-check for accuracy. Once you are confident that all the information is correct, submit the modification request to Turo for processing.

4. Understanding Turo’s Approval Process

After submitting your modification request, Turo will review the changes and communicate with your host to seek their approval. Here’s what you need to know about Turo’s approval process:

4.1 Host Confirmation

Once Turo contacts your host regarding the modification request, the host will have the opportunity to review and either approve or deny the changes. It’s essential to maintain open communication with your host during this stage to ensure a prompt response.

4.2 Turo’s Approval Timeline

Turo strives to process modification requests within 24 hours. However, the actual approval timeline may vary depending on the host’s response time and other factors. It’s advisable to plan ahead and submit your modification request with sufficient time before your desired end date.

5. Settling Additional Costs and Fees

As mentioned earlier, ending a Turo trip early may result in additional costs and fees. It’s crucial to understand these financial implications and settle any outstanding payments. Here’s what you need to know about settling additional costs:

5.1 Calculating Unused Trip Costs

Turo typically charges renters for the full duration of the original reservation, even if the trip ends early. To calculate the unused trip costs, review your original reservation details, including the daily rate and the number of remaining days.

5.2 Cancellation Fees

Depending on the circumstances and the host’s cancellation policy, you may be subject to additional cancellation fees. Review the terms and conditions of your reservation to understand the potential fees involved.

5.3 Payment Settlement Process

Turo will handle the payment settlement process for any additional costs or fees associated with ending your trip early. The final amount will be charged to the payment method on file, as per Turo’s policies.

Ending a Turo trip early is possible, but it’s important to understand the policy, communicate effectively with your host, and follow the proper steps to modify your reservation. One club's epic match schedule: 11 games, 24 days, no time to train

end trip on turo

English club Truro City are preparing for a gruelling 11 games in 24 days as part of a fixture backlog that would enrage even the most placid Premier League manager.

The Cornish side's season has been wrecked by wet weather and ground-share complications, leaving them with just under a quarter of their 46 National League South games to be played in less than a month.

In the same period, Manchester City have a meagre seven matches as they aim to repeat last season's treble of Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup crowns. Imagine how Pep Guardiola would react if his team had to play a match every 2.18 days.

- Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (U.S.)

Ahead of Friday's game against Slough Town, Truro have 42 points and sit 19th in England's semi-professional sixth tier having played 35 games -- four fewer than their opponents and as many as six fewer than some teams in the division. They are two points above relegation, but could still technically make the promotion playoffs if they go on a winning run between now and April 20. Realistically, though, given the problems that have plagued their campaign, survival would be considered a big achievement.

Their task has been made even more difficult by the fact that their nine remaining home games will be played 196 miles from Truro. Homeless after leaving Treyew Road while they wait for a new ground to be built, Truro began the 2023-24 season at Plymouth Parkway's Bolitho Park, 53 miles north of the city in the far southwest of the U.K.

The English winter -- the wettest in 130 years, according to the Met Office -- eventually rendered it impossible for two teams to play at Bolitho, forcing the White Tigers to move to Taunton Town's Wordsworth Drive, 125 miles away from the Cornish capital. They did not play a single game there in the end. Taunton's pitch has also struggled with the weather and Town, Truro's relegation rivals, are also dealing with fixture congestion.

And so to Gloucester's Meadow Park, where they have played their past three home matches on the artificial pitch, including Tuesday's goalless draw against Dartford, whose manager Adrian Pennock pointed out it was a long way for his team and their supporters to travel on a rainy weeknight. The irony was presumably lost on him that Dartford, 143 miles from Gloucester, had a shorter journey than Truro.

"We have lost a massive advantage that we have at this level, which is when teams have to travel down to us," Truro's assistant manager Stewart Yetton told ESPN. "We are really grateful to Gloucester, who have stepped up and not taken advantage of our situation, but we are basically playing as an away side -- the ground is much closer for some of our opponents." That may change in the coming weeks as Truro become more acquainted with their temporary home.

Truro's run of games means they play Friday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Only two of those games are away fixtures, while they also still need to find a date to play Eastbourne Borough at home after the original fixture was suspended last week due to an injury to an Eastbourne player. Training, in the meantime, has been cancelled.

The bigger problem may now be fielding a side in each match as players struggle to juggle family and professional commitments with the travel involved over the next 24 days. Yetton jokes it could even come down to him and the manager -- former Plymouth Argyle and Southampton midfielder Paul Wotton -- lacing their boots up and playing up front.

"We have one of, if not the smallest budgets in the league, so we have preferred to work with a squad of around 17 to keep the quality high," added Yetton, who is the club's all-time leading scorer with over 200 goals. "That's up to about 18 or 19 for this run-in, but [Wotton] is on the phone to players pretty much all day at the moment [as there is no transfer window at this level], although it's a hard sell: 'So, we are Truro, but we were playing in Plymouth, now we are in Gloucester ...'

"We have lads that just won't be able to make some games because it means leaving work at 2 p.m. or 3 p.m.. We are also going to have to consider player welfare. Playing so often and with all the travel. It's a serious consideration."

Yetton estimates around 150 people attended Tuesday's game -- in contrast to as many as 1,000 they would get at Treyew Road -- and many of those were neutrals, away fans and Truro supporters who live in and around Gloucester, although a minibus does depart The Rising Sun pub in the city for the seven-hour round trip.

Truro will be back in Cornwall next season as part of a phased plan to build a new stadium, but no one on the playing side wants to look that far ahead as the most southern-based club in the top six leagues in England prepare for the gruelling run of games in their immediate future.

"We have been handed lemons but we are going to turn them into lemonade," Yetton said. "In the dressing room, I am pulling out all the clichés about making positives out of a bad situation.

"We are approaching it game by game, but we want to get to 50 points [from their current total of 42] and see how the land lies. We are looking forward to being back in Truro next season, but we want it to be with National South football."

3 mistakes I made during my first European cruise kept me from making the most of my trip

  • I took my first European cruise with Virgin Voyages in August 2022.
  • Despite the trip's highlights, I regretted making some mistakes during the voyage.
  • Napping too much and socializing too little kept me from making the most of my cruise.

Insider Today

My first European cruise was awesome — but it could have been better.

In August 2023, I embarked on my first international cruise through the Mediterranean Sea with the luxury, adults-only cruise line Virgin Voyages .

The ship sailed round-trip from Barcelona for seven days, with port stops in France, Italy, and Spain. I was in awe of the historical destinations I visited, from Corsica to Ibiza . And the ship itself was full of unique activities, fine dining establishments, and luxurious details, from vibrant, modern decks to a VIP lounge .

But looking back on the trip, I made some mistakes that kept me from making the most of the voyage.

I took a nap within the first hour of my voyage, leaving me jet-lagged for days.

end trip on turo

As a New Yorker who often travels internationally, I have one rule to avoid jet lag — stay up through the first day, regardless of exhaustion.

Well, on this cruise, I broke it.

After a red-eye flight to Barcelona and a one-night stay in a houseboat I found on Airbnb, where I hardly slept, I was exhausted by the first day of my cruise.

And being six hours from my time zone didn't help.

Once I boarded the ship at 3 p.m., I showered and ate before taking a power nap. I slept much longer than planned and woke up at 7 p.m.

As a result, I was reluctantly awake for most of that first night. I don't remember when I finally dozed off, but I didn't wake up until noon on day two.

The chaotic sleeping schedule left me jet-lagged for days. I napped each afternoon rather than maximizing my time exploring the ship and port stops, and I watched movies in my cabin when I couldn't sleep at night.

My voyage was halfway over when I finally adjusted to the time zone. So, next time, I'll remember what happens when I break my jet lag rule and opt for a coffee over a nap.

I should have socialized more with other passengers.

end trip on turo

On an adults-only cruise ship , there were plenty of passengers to socialize with. And making friends seemed to be the vibe. Strangers spoke to me at dinners, on the pool deck, and during small group excursions.

While I appreciated these brief interactions, I wish I'd made an effort to meet up with these cruisers again. There were travelers aboard from around the world, and I even met some people from NYC.

While I was traveling with my partner and enjoyed activities with him on the ship, some things would have been fun to do in a larger group, like playing board games and racing in the arcade.

In the future, I'll try to develop deeper connections to participate in group activities and perhaps make friends to meet up with at home or during upcoming travels — whether traveling solo or with my partner.

At the end of the trip, I regretted not spending more time in Europe.

end trip on turo

On my flight back to NYC, I thought about how taxing it was to travel so far from home and how fortunate I am to explore other countries.

So, I should have extended the trip to make the most of my time across the Atlantic. It was my first time visiting Spain, and I hardly spent time in Barcelona. Viewing the city's skyline and surrounding mountains from the ship's decks made me long for a chance to explore more.

But after disembarking the ship, I headed straight to the airport for my afternoon flight home.

So, next time I'm on a European cruise, I'll book a few more nights in the ship's home port on the front or back end of the trip to make the most of it.

Clemson pulls off Sweet 16 stunner over Arizona to advance to Elite 8

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

They’re partying like it’s 1980 in Clemson.

The Clemson Tigers are advancing to the Elite Eight for just the second time in program history — and the first time in 44 years — after upsetting No. 2 seed Arizona, 77-72, on Thursday night in Los Angeles.

“We put in a lot of work over these last few days and we got it done,” guard Chase Hunter told CBS after the win, which will now pit Clemson against the winner of the Alabama-North Carolina matchup. “We just played gritty and we gave it our all and we got it done.”

Clemson guard Chase Hunter (1) guard Joseph Girard III (11) and forward Ian Schieffelin (4) celebrate after a win over Arizona in a Sweet 16 college basketball game in the NCAA tournament Thursday, March 28, 2024, in Los Angeles.

The Tigers had to hold off a talented Wildcats team that gave them a scare in the second half, which included pulling within two points in the final minute of the game.

Hunter all but sealed the historic win for Clemson when he was fouled as he hit a basket while driving to the hoop with 25.7 seconds left.

“Just wanted to make a play,” he said about his and-one. “Wanted to get an and-one, wanted to make something happen and that’s what I did.”

Hunter’s brother, Dillon, gave the Tigers more cushion seconds later when he made a layup to put Clemson up by five.

March has not been too kind to the Wildcats, who have had memorable seasons come up short in the NCAA Tournament over the last three years.

Arizona was knocked out by No. 5 seed Houston in 2022 and upset by No. 15 seed Princeton in 2023 before losing to No. 6 seed Clemson this year.

Caleb Love #2, Pelle Larsson #3 and Keshad Johnson #16 of the Arizona Wildcats reacts after losing to the Clemson Tigers during the second half in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Crypto.com Arena on March 28, 2024

Chase Hunter had a team-high 18 points — on 8 of 15 from the field — while pulling down seven rebounds and recording five assists. shooting

PJ Hall and Ian Schieffelin had 17 and 14 points, respectively, for Clemson.

“We have confidence in our team,” Clemson head coach Brad Brownell told reporters after the game. “I’ve got an older team. These guys have seen a lot, done a lot and experienced success. And so just really happy that they were able to withstand it, and we executed some things really well down the stretch.”

Clemson went into halftime with a 39-31 lead, but the Wildcats chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game with 16:33 left to play in the second half after a layup and free throw by Caleb Love.

Hunter put the Tigers back in front with 15:21 left on the clock.

Arizona tied it one more time before Clemson took the lead for good at 9:42.

‘Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World’ Review: A Wild Romanian Trip

In Radu Jude’s shambling, acidly funny movie set in Bucharest, a foul-mouthed gofer named Angela tours the troubled heart and soul of her country.

  • Share full article

In a black-and-white film still, Ilinca Manolache, with blonde hair, sits in the driver’s seat with hands on the wheel.

By Manohla Dargis

Late in Radu Jude’s “Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World,” the movie shifts tones. Our heroine, a funny, foul-mouthed gofer who’s racking up miles driving in Bucharest, has just told her passenger about a road outside the city that has more memorials edging it than it has kilometers. The movie then cuts to one after another roadside memorial — some stone, others metal, some with photos, others with flowers — for an astonishing four silent minutes, and this near-unclassifiable, often comically ribald movie turns into a plaintive requiem.

The woman, Angela — the sneakily charismatic Ilinca Manolache — is a production assistant toiling for a foreign company that’s making a workplace safety video in Romania. Among her tasks is interviewing men and women who have been injured on the job, the idea being that one will make a camera-friendly cautionary tale for workers. As she changes gears, and the movie switches between black-and-white film and color video, Angela flips off other drivers, acidly critiques all that she encounters, creates TikTok videos and effectively maps the geopolitical landscape of contemporary Romania. At one point, she meets the German director Uwe Boll , who’s known to have trounced a few of his critics in boxing matches.

I don’t think that Jude wants to beat up critics (even if the interlude with Boll, who’s shooting a “bug-killer film,” is almost endearing); among other things, his movies tend to be well-received. Jude’s shaggy provocation “Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn,” for instance, earned high praise as well as top honors at the Berlin Film Festival in 2021. At the same time, there’s a pushy, borderline abrasive aspect to how Jude strings out Angela’s time behind the wheel in “Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World,” forcing you to share in her tedium. The movie is overflowing with ideas — about history, capitalism, cinema, representation — but it also tests your patience before amply rewarding it.

It’s still dark when Angela stumbles out of bed one early morning, naked and cursing. (One of her favorite expletives is featured both in the first and final words in the movie, a fitting bookending blurt that seems like a cri de coeur and one of the movie’s more unambiguously authorial statements.) Before long, she’s dressed and out in the streets, making the first in a series of TikToks in which she takes on the guise of her bald social-media avatar, a bro named Bobita, an extravagantly offensive vulgarian who brags about hanging out with his pal Andrew Tate, the online influencer and self-anointed “king of toxic masculinity.”

Tate’s trajectory is lurid and gross, but the references to him are more symbolically than specifically germane to the movie. (Tate moved to Romania in 2017; he was arrested there in May 2023 on an assortment of charges, including human trafficking.) For Angela — for Jude — Tate basically functions as yet another emblem of Bobita’s grotesqueness and of a larger worldview, one that has reduced everything to its market value. Everything is part of his unending hustle, including the Maserati he brags about owning, the women he boasts about sexually conquering and, of course, himself. “Remember,” Bobita says, “like and share!” With her avatar, Angela entertains her audience with a very sharp sting.

The same can be said of “Do Not Expect Too Much,” which gradually gathers shape and force as Angela motors around Bucharest. As she does, Jude cuts between her and the title heroine of “ Angela Goes On ,” a 1981 Romanian film directed by Lucian Bratu about a taxi driver. Produced in the waning years of the Ceausescu dictatorship , the earlier film serves as a fascinating counterpoint to Jude’s movie visually and thematically. (The opening credits announce that this movie is a “conversation” with the 1981 film.) From one angle, not much has changed, but if the roads are still jammed and people hungry, it’s now capitalism rather than communism that keeps this world busily spinning.

At one point, as her endless work drags on, Angela drives to the airport to pick up an executive from the company producing the safety video. The executive, Doris, towers above Angela, and in a perfect bit of casting is played by the great German actress Nina Hoss. Casually if chicly dressed, Doris has come to Bucharest in advance of the video shoot, the team now having found a palatable star (its “raw material”). It’s a charge that she handles with impeccable manners and the kind of nonchalant, world-dominating hauteur that I imagine old-regime royals expressed with a lazy wave of the hand as they ordered someone to death.

Doris only makes chitchat with Angela, although in a killer touch — and in another of Jude’s sly comments about high and low culture, East Europe and West — the executive turns out to be related to Goethe. Eventually, Angela ends up in an alley, where many of the story’s pieces converge, including its wounded worker, the star of the Ceausescu-era film and, of course, Bobita. By that point, Jude has taken you all over, bridged the past with the present and shown the country’s many double faces, comic and tragic. He’s also come close to exhausting you with his movie, which is as relentless, pessimistic, heartbreaking and enlivening as the amazing Angela, who — like Jude, I suspect — keeps going because she must.

Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World Not rated. In Romanian, with subtitles. Running time: 2 hours 43 minutes. In theaters.

Kwik Trip to stop selling bagged milk, a fixture for 40 years

Sadie frankel.

  • Mar 28, 2024

Kwik Trip is ending sales of bagged milk starting in May, the chain announced this week.

The decision to stop selling bagged milk, a cheaper alternative to milk sold in jugs and that the store has carried for 40 years, followed a drop in demand.

“After thorough consideration and analysis, we have decided to discontinue bagged milk to focus on items that resonate more strongly with our guests,” Kwik Trip CEO Scott Zietlow said in an announcement Wednesday.

As Kwik Trip grows, it clings to friendly Midwestern values

  • DENNIS CHAPTMAN Special to the State Journal

Some customers expressed disappointment.

“It’s been such a tradition. It’s a quirk unique to Wisconsin and the Midwest,” said customer Nate Schweitzer, 39. “Our friends from out of town still talk about it. It was just one of those fun things.”

After they bring it home, customers store the bagged milk in a pitcher, free with the first purchase. The pitcher holds the bag, from which one corner has been cut to pour the milk. After use, the open corner of the bag is tucked into a slit in the front of the pitcher, sealing it.

Reactions have been mixed, Kwik Trip spokesperson Ben Leibl acknowledged. But in the end, he said, sales couldn’t justify the cost of continuing to provide the product.

Leibl said he hoped customers will switch to buying their milk in jugs instead, but some have objected to the difference in price. While half a gallon of bagged milk at a Kwik Trip in Madison Thursday cost $1.49, half a gallon of the same milk in a jug cost $2.39.

  • By Ramishah Maruf, CNN

While the cost was not Schweitzer’s main complaint, he said discontinuation of the product was a loss for customers who have relied on it over the years.

“You can get regular milk anywhere,” Schweitzer said. “The bags are what kind of drew me.”

Now, he said, he’ll be “indifferent” about where he buys milk.

Leibl was sympathetic but was hopeful customers would continue purchasing milk from the store.

“This was a very difficult decision for us to make. It was not one we took lightly,” Leibl said. “We understand that customers come into our store looking for bagged milk, and we are disappointed that we have to take that away.”
