Cruise ship logo with the title 'Minimalistic Line Design for Cruise Ship'

Minimalistic Line Design for Cruise Ship

This is a revision to the previous concept design I submitted before. The client wanted a more modern cruise ship, rather than the titanic-like. I provided various options of color and arrangement so the design is very flexible according to what the client needs.

Cruise ship logo with the title 'Fun logo concept for summer camp theme'

Fun logo concept for summer camp theme

The inspiration behind this logo comes from a previous summer where the theme was first introduced. This is a fresh approach in which I created the text from the ground up and gave it a light-hearted feel. The slime is indicative of the camp's many activities and I liked the idea of it being spattered on and kind of dripping down the word "Ooze". The word "CRUISE" is colored to give it a vacation and sea faring feel. The 3D drop shapes behind "CRUISE" and the accompanying outlines throughout are to help push the text out from the background.

My goal was to create an eye-catching and easy to read logo but also unique. The modern font meets a light wave, bringing freshness and a little bit of fun to this logo.

Cruise ship logo with the title 'Travel Destinations Together'

Travel Destinations Together

This time, the concept is more focused on luxury. By combining the initials S + E in such a way that they make a design with a luxurious feeling, plus the curves made from this combination, a map image representing the destinations is created. while the circle that frames it represents harmony. I purposefully did not include cruise features or other modes of transportation because I believe we must convey brand value to clients through visuals rather than the products or services we offer. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks.

What makes a good Cruise Ship logo?

cruise cars logo

Not all Cruise Ship logos are created equal. Choosing the right logo type for your business is one of the keys to creating a great Cruise Ship logo. There's an array of logo types and what you choose depends on the emotions and message you want your logo to evoke. Logos with just text or simple letters can convey professionalism or luxury, whereas a Cruise Ship logo with just an icon can be more jovial and exciting - maybe your logo should have both? This is a critical decision in the logo design process.

cruise cars logo

Ever considered why some companies use specific colors in the Cruise Ship logo? Or why some businesses have certain colors in their branding? Color theory and psychology is the science of eliciting emotions and feelings via the use of color. Knowing what colors trigger different reactions from consumers can help a company create the perfect Cruise Ship logo for their business. It definitely pays to choose the right colors for your Cruise Ship logo. Want to be seen as a dependable, trustworthy brand or maybe you want to be sporty and active. Choosing the right colors for your logo is the key to getting the message right.

cruise cars logo

Shapes & Patterns

Just like colors, shapes can influence a person's emotions. The psychology of shapes has a key role in creating a great Cruise Ship logo. We're not just talking about squares, circles and triangles here, but the geometric patterns that make up your Cruise Ship logo. Sharp corners and straight lines are aligned with discipline and strength, whereas softer curves, ovals and ellipses can convey a sense of eternity, mystery or magic. There's more shapes to consider as part of your logo - natural shapes like leaves, complex shapes like spirals or even abstract patterns. Getting the balance right will help you get the perfect Cruise Ship logo for your brand.

Ford Explorer Electric

Ford explorer ev launches with more range and refinement.

Avatar for Peter Johnson

The all-electric Ford Explorer is finally launching in Europe. With up to 374 miles range and a starting price under £40,000 ($50,000), Ford hopes the new and improved Explorer EV can help boost sales in the region.

German engineering meets American style

Ford revealed the fully electric Explorer just over a year ago. It’s the first EV built on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, the same one underpinning the VW ID.4.

The Explorer EV “combines German engineering with striking American style.” Ford said the electric Explorer is the first of a wave of new EVs as it reinvents the brand in Europe.

Ford’s mid-size, all-electric SUV is built for family adventures with roughly 470 L of storage and seating for five passengers to fit comfortably. The Explorer EV includes a massive 15″ movable touchscreen with fully connected infotainment, including Android Auto and AppleCarplay compatibility and advanced ADAS.

With fast charging from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes, Ford Explorer EV drivers can get back on the road quickly.

Ford initially said two versions (the Explorer and Explorer Premium) would launch by the end of 2023, with expected prices starting under €45,000 ($50,000).

Ford-Explorer-EV

Despite this, Ford delayed the launch mainly because the battery did not comply with new regulations. Ford re-engineered the EV with a new NMC battery pack to comply.

Ford Explorer EV improved with more range

The wait may be worth it. Martin Sander, Head of Ford Europe’s Model e EV unit, told Autocar the delay has led to increased refinement and a more competitive model.

Ford’s Explorer EV is “a better vehicle now than we would have launched half a year ago,” according to Sander. The team used the extra time to “get everything nailed down, to make sure that we’re delivering a perfect vehicle to our customers.”

Ford-Explorer-EV

The new battery delivers up to 374 miles (600 km) range, topping the 311 miles Ford initially expected.

Ford’s single-motor Extended Range Explorer starts at £45,875 ($58,000) with a 77 kWh battery. The dual-motor version is equipped with VW’s 335 hp powertrain used for its sporty GTX EVs. That is fitted with a 79 kWh battery.

A more affordable standard model with a 52 kWh battery will launch later, with prices starting at around £39,875 ($50,000).

Ford-Explorer-EV

Sander added, “The engineers really did a great job to create a distinct Ford vehicle, not just put another electric vehicle out.” The Explorer EV is the first of at least two MEB-based vehicles. According to Sander, the second will be a “more sporty, slightly larger” SUV.

Top comment by Cypress

“Would you pay $50,000 for Ford’s fully electric Explorer in the US?

Why does this site always forget the EU prices include VAT? That $50k would be about $42k USD

That would be a good deal for an EV with over 300 miles EPA range.

Although Ford announced plans to sell over 600,000 MEB-based EVs in Europe over six years, Sander said the automaker had adjusted its goals in Europe, as it did in the US.

Ford-Fiesta-electric-Explorer

Ford also announced a new partnership with Allego, an ultra-fast EV charging network, to deploy 400 kW chargers across dealerships in Europe for electric Explorer drivers.

Now, Ford needs to launch an electric Explorer in the US. Instead, Ford is delaying plans for a larger three-row electric SUV in the US as it shifts its focus to smaller, more affordable EVs.

Would you pay $50,000 for Ford’s fully electric Explorer in the US? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Sometimes less is more. This is the case with the logo you’ll see on any Mercedes-Benz car. It’s only a circle with a triangle inside, but you can’t miss any of them when a car drives by you. This logo is also associated with a luxury car brand that has become known around the world. For whatever reason, the logo always looks incredibly shiny and clean when you see it. The Mercedes-Benz brand has grown ever since the start of the company in 1926. With a loyal fan base and proud clientele, they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, either.

Agree with this?
Italian sports car companies know how to draw people in with colorful patterns and beautiful designs on the logos of their cars. Ferrari is no different. The black horse in front of the yellow backdrop makes it easy to spot any Ferrari car. This horse is a sign of wealth and status, thanks to the fact most well-off people own horses of some kind. The green, red, and white colors of the Italian flag are a subtle addition to the top of the logo and make it easy to spot.
The newest company on our list hasn’t been around for very long. However, you already know exactly what brand they are when you see their logo.
Even though it’s not a common car to see, their logo is instantly recognizable when you pass by a car of theirs. Abarth is another Italian car company that prides itself on quality and power.
Having a logo that resembles a trident means you better have a legendary car to back it up. Thankfully, Maserati understood the assignment and has put out some of the most amazing and head-turning cars on the road today. This is one of the true symbols of success in this world, thanks to the clientele that drive this kind of car. There’s also an elegant, cursive, way they write out “Maserati” next to the logo. How it works

Learn the basics of how a Cruise car navigates city streets safely and efficiently.

Sensors can see 360 degrees, hundreds of feet ahead, and around that double-parked car. Cruise cars make sense of this data in a split second, tracking every important object in view.

Is there room to change lanes? Is it safe to turn left here? Cruise cars consider multiple paths per second, constantly choosing the best ones for unexpected events and changes in road conditions.

Cruise cars tell their wheels and other controls how to move along the selected path and react to changes in it. The result is a ride that’s safe, efficient, and natural-looking to other drivers.

How it drives

Learn how our data visualization tool shaped the future of autonomous driving.

Six presumed dead after cargo ship crash levels Baltimore bridge

BALTIMORE — A major Baltimore bridge collapsed like a house of cards early Tuesday after it was struck by a container ship, sending six people to their deaths in the dark waters below, and closing one of the country’s busiest ports.

By nightfall, the desperate search for six people who were working on the bridge and vanished when it fell apart had become a grim search for bodies.

“We do not believe that we’re going to find any of these individuals still alive,” Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon N. Gilreath said.

Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Brawner Builders, said earlier that one of his workers had survived. He did not release their names.

Up until then, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore had held out hope that the missing people might be found even as law enforcement warned that the frigid water and the fact that there had been no sign of them since 1:30 a.m. when the ship struck Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Moore expressed heartbreak after officials suspended the search for survivors.

"Our heart goes out to the families," he said. "I can’t imagine how painful today has been for these families, how painful these hours have been have been for these families."

It was a crushing blow to the loved ones of the missing men, who had waited for hours at a Royal Farms convenience store near the entrance of the bridge for word of their fate.

Follow live updates on the Baltimore bridge collapse

The tragic chain of events began early Tuesday when the cargo ship Dali notified authorities that it had lost power and issued a mayday moments before the 984-foot vessel slammed into a bridge support at a speed of 8 knots, which is about 9 mph.

Moore declared a state of emergency while rescue crews using sonar detected at least five vehicles in the frigid 50-foot-deep water: three passenger cars, a cement truck and another vehicle of some kind. Authorities do not believe anyone was inside the vehicles.

Investigators quickly concluded that it was an accident and not an act of terrorism.

Ship was involved in another collision

Earlier, two people were rescued from the water, Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said. One was in good condition and refused treatment, he said. The other was seriously injured and was being treated in a trauma center.

Moore said other drivers might have been in the water had it not been for those who, upon hearing the mayday, blocked off the bridge and kept other vehicles from crossing.

“These people are heroes,” Moore said. “They saved lives.”

Nearly eight years ago, the Dali was involved in an accident. In July 2016, it struck a quay at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium, damaging the quay.

The nautical commission investigated the accident, but the details of the inquiry were not immediately clear Tuesday.

The Dali is operated and managed by Synergy Group. In a statement, the company said that two port pilots were at the helm during Tuesday's crash and that all 22 crew members onboard were accounted for.

The Dali was chartered by the Danish shipping giant Maersk, which said it would have no choice but to send its ships to other nearby ports with the Port of Baltimore closed.

The bridge, which is about a mile and a half long and carries Interstate 695 over the Patapsco River southeast of Baltimore, was "fully up to code," Moore said.

National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said that her agency will lead the investigation and that a data recorder on the ship could provide more information.

"But right now we're focusing on the people, on the families," she said. "The rest can wait."

President Joe Biden vowed to rebuild the bridge and send federal funds.

"This is going to take some time," the president warned. "The people of Baltimore can count on us though to stick with them, at every step of the way, till the port is reopened and the bridge is rebuilt."

Speaking in Baltimore, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg echoed the president's promise.

"This is no ordinary bridge," he said. "This is one of the cathedrals of American infrastructure."

But Buttigieg warned that replacing the bridge and reopening the port will take time and money and that it could affect supply chains.

The Port of Baltimore, the 11th largest in the U.S., is the busiest port for car imports and exports, handling more than 750,000 vehicles in 2023 alone, according to data from the Maryland Port Administration.

Writer David Simon, a champion of Baltimore who set his TV crime drama "The Wire" on the streets of the city he once covered as a reporter, warned online that the people who will suffer the most are those whose livelihoods depend on the port.

"Thinking first of the people on the bridge," Simon posted on X . "But the mind wanders to a port city strangling. All the people who rely on ships in and out."

Timeline of crash

Dramatic video captured the moment at 1:28 a.m. Tuesday when the Dali struck a support and sent the bridge tumbling into the water. A livestream showed cars and trucks on the bridge just before the strike. The ship did not sink, and its lights remained on.

Investigators said in a timeline that the Dali's lights suddenly shut off four minutes earlier before they came back on and that then, at 1:25 a.m. dark black smoke began billowing from the ship's chimney.

A minute later, at 1:26 a.m., the ship appeared to turn. And in the minutes before it slammed into the support, the lights flickered again.

Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said the workers on the bridge were repairing concrete ducts when the ship crashed into the structure.

At least seven workers were pouring concrete to fix potholes on the roadway on the bridge directly above where the ship hit, said James Krutzfeldt, a foreman.

Earlier, the Coast Guard said it had received a report that a “motor vessel made impact with the bridge” and confirmed it was the Dali, a containership sailing under a Singaporean flag that was heading for Sri Lanka.

Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapses After Being Struck By Cargo Ship

Bobby Haines, who lives in Dundalk in Baltimore County, said he felt the impact of the bridge collapse from his house nearby.

"I woke up at 1:30 this morning and my house shook, and I was freaking out," he said. "I thought it was an earthquake, and to find out it was a bridge is really, really scary."

Families of bridge workers wait for updates

Earlier in the day, relatives of the construction crew waited for updates on their loved ones.

Marian Del Carmen Castellon told Telemundo her husband, Miguel Luna, 49, was working on the bridge.

“They only tell us that we have to wait and that they can’t give us information,” she said.

Castellon said she was "devastated, devastated because our heart is broken, because we don’t know how they have been rescued yet. We are just waiting for the news."

Luna's co-worker Jesús Campos said he felt crushed, too.

“It hurts my heart to see what is happening. We are human beings, and they are my folks,” he said.

Campos told The Baltimore Banner that the missing men are from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.

Active search and rescue ends

The Coast Guard said it was suspending the active search-and-rescue effort at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"Coast Guard’s not going away, none of our partners are going away, but we’re just going to transition into a different phase," Gilreath said at a news conference.

Maryland State Police Superintendent Roland L. Butler, Jr., said it was moving to a recovery operation. Changing conditions have made it dangerous for divers, he said.

Butler pledged to "do our very best to recover those six missing people," but the conditions are difficult.

"If we look at how challenging it is at a simple motor vehicle crash to extract an individual, I'm sure we can all imagine how much harder it is to do it in inclement weather, when it's cold, under the water, with very limited to no visibility," he said.

"There's a tremendous amount of debris in the water," which can include sharp metal and other hazards, and that could take time, Butler said.

'A long road in front of us'

Built in 1977 and referred to locally as the Key Bridge, the structure was later named after the author of the American national anthem.

The bridge is more than 8,500 feet long, or 1.6 miles. Its main section spans 1,200 feet, and it was one of the longest continuous truss bridges in the world upon its completion, according to the National Steel Bridge Alliance .

About 31,000 vehicles a day use the bridge, which equals 11.3 million vehicles per year, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

The river and the Port of Baltimore are both key to the shipping industry on the East Coast, generating more than $3.3 billion a year and directly employing more than 15,000 people.

Asked what people in Baltimore can expect going forward, the state's transportation secretary said it is too early to tell.

"Obviously we reached out to a number of engineering companies, so obviously we have a long road in front of us," Wiedefeld said.

Introduction to Cruise Insurance

Cruise insurance may offer unique coverage like missed port of call and medical evacuation coverage. You might not need the flight protections of a regular travel insurance plan if you're catching a cruise at a port near you, but medical and cancel for any reason coverage could be critical.

Understanding the Basics of Cruise Insurance

At its core, cruise insurance is your financial lifeboat, designed to protect you from unforeseen events that could disrupt your sea voyage. Whether it's a sudden illness, adverse weather, or other unexpected occurrences, having the right insurance can make a world of difference.

Why Cruise Insurance is Important

Picture this: You're all set for your dream cruise, but a sudden family emergency means you can't set sail. Or worse, you fall ill in the middle of the ocean. Without cruise insurance, you're not just missing out on an adventure, but also facing potentially huge financial losses. That's why securing cruise insurance isn't just recommended; it's a crucial part of your cruise planning.

Types of Cruise Insurance Coverage

Cruise insurance isn't a one-size-fits-all life jacket. There are various types of coverage, each tailored to protect different aspects of your cruise experience.

Trip Cancellation and Interruption Coverage

This coverage is like your safety net, catching you financially if you need to cancel your trip last minute or cut it short due to emergencies, be it due to personal, health-related, or even certain work conflicts.

Medical Coverage

Being on a cruise shouldn't mean being adrift from medical care. Medical coverage ensures that if you fall ill or get injured, your medical expenses won't sink your finances.

Emergency Evacuation Coverage

In the rare case that you need to be evacuated from the ship due to a medical emergency or severe weather, this coverage ensures you're not left adrift in a sea of expenses.

Baggage and Personal Effects Coverage

Imagine reaching your dream destination only to find your luggage lost at sea. This coverage ensures that lost, stolen, or damaged baggage doesn't dampen your cruise experience.

Buying Cruise Insurance

Securing the best cruise insurance isn't just about finding the best price; it's about ensuring it covers all your potential needs.

When to Purchase Cruise Insurance

Timing is everything. Purchasing your insurance soon after booking your cruise can often provide additional benefits and ensure you're covered for any early surprises. As you get closer to your trip your coverage options may get more expensive, and certain providers may not be able to offer you coverage.

How to Find the Best Deals on Cruise Insurance

Keep a lookout for deals, but remember, the cheapest option isn't always the best. Balance cost with coverage, and ensure you're getting the protection you need at a price that doesn't rock your financial boat. A travel insurance comparison site like SquareMouth is a good place to compare multiple quotes from all of the major carriers at once.

How to Pick The Best Cruise Insurance for You

When buying travel insurance for a cruise, consider the additional risks that are specific to cruising. These include hurricanes and other weather-related concerns, strict cancellation terms, high pre-paid costs of a cruise, and the distance to emergency medical assistance.

To find the policy that's right for you, it's best to compare several different cruise insurance policies based on the pricing and coverage they provide. Remember too that all reputable insurance providers will offer a "free-look period." This allows you to return the policy you've purchased for any reason, within a specific time period, for a full refund.

The most important coverages to look for in cruise insurance are:

 • Medical coverage — This coverage will pay for medical bills outside the US. But because treatment can be more expensive while onboard, make sure your policy offers sufficient coverage ($100,000+).
 • Medical evacuation coverage — This coverage will transport you to the nearest hospital or even back home if you become sick or injured during your journey. But an evacuation from sea will be more expensive than one from land. So you'll want to make sure your coverage has sufficiently high limits ($250,000+).
 • Missed connection (missed port of call) coverage — This type of coverage will help you catch up to your itinerary if you miss your port of call for a covered reason, like a delayed flight on the way to the airport.
 • Coverage for hurricane warnings — With this type of coverage, you don't actually need to be affected by the hurricane. You can cancel and be reimbursed for your trip if the NOAA issues a hurricane warning. If you're cruising anywhere during (or on the tail ends) of hurricane season, this can come in handy. Just note: You can't buy travel insurance to cover a weather event once a storm or hurricane has been named.
 • Cancel for any reason (CFAR) — This is the most comprehensive coverage you can get, as it allows cancellations and reimbursement for pre-paid expenses for any reason. This can be a wise add-on for cruise coverage given the often higher prepaid expenses associated with cruising. See our guide to the best CFAR travel insurance options to learn more.
 • Preexisting conditions — This coverage ensures that no known health conditions are excluded from coverage. Obtaining a preexisting condition waiver usually requires purchasing your travel insurance soon after booking your trip.
 • Personal possessions insurance — Because of the events and fancy dinners cruise ships hold, you might take more valuable clothing or jewelry with you on a cruise. This type of coverage will insure your belongings against loss or theft while cruising.
 • Baggage loss and delay — This coverage will reimburse you up to a specified amount for essentials if your bags are delayed or if your bags get lost en route.

As a rule of thumb, you can expect to pay between 5% and 10% of your prepaid, nonrefundable trip expenses for cruise insurance coverage. The price will vary depending on factors like your age, your travel destination, and whether you require additional coverage.

If you're booking a cruise, we recommend purchasing travel insurance when you make your first trip payment. That could be for the cruise itself or an expense like airfare to get you to your cruising destination. This way, if you have to cancel your trip, you'll have the most extended coverage period possible.

You can buy your own cruise insurance that isn't offered directly through the cruise line operator. In fact, this could be a better option if you want coverage for your travel to the cruise's departure point, not just for the cruise itself.

The difference between traditional travel insurance and cruise insurance is that cruise insurance offers more specialized coverage, for situations such as missing a departure port and more coverage for medical evacuations, since it's more expensive to evacuate someone at sea than on land.

Most cruise insurance includes coverage for missing a departure port, so you should be able to claim for a missed port. Just make sure you check the details of your policy before you file a claim, and before you travel so you know what compensation you're entitled to.

This page is no longer actively maintained. ( Pardon? )

It was like all of Walt Disney's puppets singing "It's a Small World After All" with a vengeance when I was cycling through the south of Holland one day in May 2000, just outside the town of Goirle, and suddenly encountered a road sign saying that this small town had a friendship bond with none other than Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia. Fortunately I had a small camera on me and was able to immortalize the sign.

Some questions remained though. First and most importantly, what is the nature of this friendship bond? What does Goirle do for Krasnogorsk? What does Krasnogorsk do for Goirle? And secondly, why did Goirle pick Krasnogorsk of all places? Because of the presence of a certain large optical factory, or because it's the home of the Russian cinematographical archive? Maybe some day I'll write an e-mail to the Goirle–Krasnogorsk Foundation and find out more. For now, I have to make do with what's on the Internet.

This page shows that Goirle is not the only Dutch town to have a Russian sister city. This one claims Goirle decided to initiate the friendship bond on September 8th 1988, and that the bond was sealed little more than a month later, on October 18th. A bilingual plaquette commemorating the event now adorns the town hall. The Dutch text on the plate translates as: "cities establish friendship / their residents / overcome borders / reach out to each other."

Then there's this page dedicated to the Goirle-Krasnogorsk Foundation, though it's not their official site. It has its postal and e-mail address, and sending a mail is high on my priority list. The page outlines the target of the Foundation as organizing exchanges between 20–25 people, "to show friendship and exchange knowledge in various areas." Other accomplishments that I've found on the Internet are bringing Russian artists to Goirle, and organizing photo exhibitions of Krasnogorsk . The Goirle-Krasnogorsk Foundation also publishes a periodical called "Droesjba" (friendship).

Six presumed dead in Baltimore bridge collapse as rescue efforts called off

Coastguard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath says authorities do not expect to find any of the missing alive.

Baltimore bridge collapsing

Six workers are missing and presumed dead following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the United States city of Baltimore, as authorities called a halt to search-and-rescue efforts.

US Coastguard and Maryland State Police officials said late on Tuesday that search-and-rescue operations had been suspended as dive teams were facing increasingly dangerous conditions in the darkened waters of the Patapsco River.

Us releases ‘strongest ever’ car pollution rules in push for ev transition, us opens criminal probe into boeing 737 max mid-flight blowout, massive strikes cripple air and rail travel across germany, at least 21 dead after bus collides with tanker in southern afghanistan.

“At this point, we do not believe we are going to find any of these individuals still alive,” Coastguard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath said at a news conference.

State Police Colonel Roland Butler said authorities intended to return divers to the water after sunrise on Wednesday in an effort to recover the deceased’s remains.

Authorities said the Dali cargo ship crashed into the bridge at about 1:30am (05:30 GMT) on Tuesday, catching fire before sinking. In a spectacular moment of destruction caught on video, the bridge buckled and then fell into the water.

Officials initially called the incident a “developing mass casualty event” but said later that eight people were believed to have fallen into the water. Two were rescued, with one in serious condition and one later released from the hospital.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon M Scott and Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced states of emergency for the city and state.

“It looked like something out of an action movie,” Scott told a news conference, calling it “an unthinkable tragedy”.

In remarks after the collapse, President Joe Biden said he planned to visit the site “as quickly as I can”.

He added he would request federal funds from Congress to rebuild the bridge. It had previously served as a vital artery to the northeast region of the US, accommodating 30,000 cars a day.

The Port of Baltimore was also shut down after the crash, bringing one of the country’s busiest maritime shipping terminals to a standstill. Biden described it as the “top port in America for both imports and exports of automobiles and light trucks”.

“This is going to take some time,” Biden said of recovery and rebuilding efforts. “The people of Baltimore can count on us, though, to stick with them at every step of the way until the port is reopened and the bridge is rebuilt.”

Nothing to indicate ‘intentional’

Biden also said there was nothing to indicate the collision was “intentional”. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also said earlier in the day there was no credible information to suggest terrorism.

Jennifer Homendy, the chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), said a 24-member team from her agency would launch an investigation once search-and-rescue operations are completed.

That investigation will probe both the safety of the ship and the structural integrity of the bridge.

Dali, the cargo ship involved in the crash, was owned by Grace Ocean Private Ltd and managed by the Singapore-based Synergy Marine Group.

The container ship was about 300 metres (985 feet) long and about 48 metres (147 feet) wide. It was travelling at about 8 knots, or roughly 14.8km/hour (9 mph), when it slammed into a pillar of the bridge.

The vessel caught fire after the collision and thick black smoke billowed out of it. The bridge, meanwhile, crumpled like a toy.

Before it buckled, the Francis Scott Key Bridge had stretched 2.6km (1.6 miles) over the Patapsco River, which leads to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

Frantic mayday call

Governor Moore said the ship’s crew issued a mayday call moments before the crash took place, reporting an apparent power failure. That call allowed authorities to mostly stop traffic on the bridge.

“These people are heroes,” Moore said of the crew. “They saved lives last night.”

According to radio traffic obtained from Broadcastify.com, a police dispatcher put out a call saying a ship had lost its steering and asked officers to stop all traffic

One officer radioed that he was going to drive onto the bridge to alert a construction crew filling potholes there. But seconds later, an officer was heard saying: “The whole bridge just fell down. Start, start whoever, everybody … The whole bridge just collapsed.”

Six construction workers disappeared in the debris.

Jeffrey Pritzker – the executive vice president of Brawner Builders, the company that employed the workers – said the crew was working in the middle of the bridge and the six missing workers are presumed dead.

“This was so completely unforeseen,” Pritzker said. “We don’t know what else to say. We take such great pride in safety and we have cones and signs and lights and barriers and flaggers. But we never foresaw that the bridge would collapse.”

The executive for Prince George’s County, Angela Alsobrooks, posted on X that police divers were unable to access the area because underwater drones show “an abundance of twisted metal and debris”.

Meanwhile, Jesus Campos, an employee of Brawner Builders, told the Associated Press news agency that he had been told the workers were on break when the bridge collapsed.

Campos had previously worked on the bridge and prayed that his colleagues were not harmed.

“It is so hard for me to describe. I know that a month ago, I was there and I know what it feels like when the trailers pass. Imagine knowing that it is falling. It is so hard, one would not know what to do,” Campos said.

‘Cathedrals of American infrastructure’

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg hailed the Francis Scott Key Bridge as “one of the cathedrals of American infrastructure”.

“It has been part of the skyline for this region for longer than many of us have been alive,” he said.

The bridge opened in 1977 and is named for the poet who provided the lyrics for The Star-Spangled Banner, the US national anthem.

When asked if US residents should be confident in the safety of other bridges in the area, Buttigieg said the collapse was a “unique situation”.

All vessel traffic into and out of the Port of Baltimore remains suspended until further notice, although the facility is still open to trucks.

The White House said it would be monitoring for any disruptions to the US supply change as a result of the collision, which is all but assured to cause a logistical nightmare in the months ahead.

Ryan Petersen, the CEO of Flexport, a supply chain management company, said Americans should expect shortages of goods in the coming weeks. He predicted the collision would create a “vicious feedback loop” that would resonate beyond Baltimore’s economy.

The Port of Baltimore’s private and public terminals handled 847,158 cars and light trucks in 2023, the most of any US port. The port also handles farm and construction machinery, sugar, gypsum and coal, according to the Maryland State Government website.

On Tuesday, Maryland State Senator Johnny Ray Salling warned: “Losing this bridge will devastate the entire area, as well as the entire East Coast.”

An honest hotel that does not pretend to give you more that you expect. Rooms are spotless, breakfast OK, and WiFi are fast. Besides that there is no reason to stay longer than one night. Of course there is no fitness/gym/spa and other facilities. More

We stayed in Novotel previously when staying in Sheremetyevo airport, but this time chose Park Inn, since it allows partial day stays. In general the hotel is worse than Novotel in terms of rooms refurbishment. But service was good, starting from shuttle bus driver who was very helpful, by giving us advises on when to leave to catch our next flight, and how to travel to Domodedovo. Reception was very friendly and helpful as well, we had taxi waiting for us on time. We have got good value for money we paid.

Thank you for your response, we appreciate your feedback and we take great pride in hearing that our Yes I Can! service which is delivered at all levels in the hotel to ensure your stay is very pleasurable was delivered. Regards Gerard

I stay in this hotel for one night and I love it,the front desk service is excellent, the beds very soft, and have all the services I need, the hotel is in walking distance to the Sheremetyevo airport and to the train station. The best part is the bar, very good vodka.

Thank you for the excellent feedback, we are very happy that you enjoyed our core product and the services offered. Free Wi-Fi is also a new standard and we look forward to welcoming you back on your travels. Regards Gerard

Was a little worried with all the negative reviews of hotels in Moscow but found Park Inn to have friendly service and staff spoke English. Room was good and comparable to N American standards. Hotel is very close walking distance to Aeroexpress station but a little difficult to find path. Don't recommend walking alone at night. Only complaint about room is that the bathroom flooded after shower and water never drained (urban design with no bath tub). Had to wear my flip flops to go back to use washroom!

cruise cars logo

Thank you kindly for your review and we appreciate your positive feedback in regard to friendly service. We have taken measures to ensure that the drainage in the room you stayed has improved and we again thank you for bringing it our attention. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Regards Gerard

How it is possible to don't have a hot water!!!it is incredible!!i called at the reception and they said the hot water is closed!!!!in the bathroom u don't have a hair dryer!!in the room is very cold even when outside is cold!!!i called the technician to see what's happening with the air conditioner ..and he start to cry that I called him for nothing..and there are normally to be like this!!!for this money it is a bad hotel!!!!

Thank you for bringing your issues to our attention and I apologize sincerely that we did not provide our usual service when you stayed. I have investigated the hot water problem you experienced and the result is on the day you stayed we had some boiler maintenance downtime for 45 mins hence the cold water. It is not a usual occurrence for us here but a yearly necessity when the city cuts off the direct supply, we switch over to our heated boiler system. It does not retract in any way from your complaint and our responsibility to provide the best possible service but unfortunately it is a necessary requirement to carry out these works. I do hope you give us another chance in the future and if you contact me directly I will ensure that your next visit will exceed your last and you will see the hotel in another light. Thank you once more for your valued feedback. Regards Gerard

Hotel near the airport Sheremetevo, within walking distance, but it was really hard to hit due to lack of information. The room I got was within ParkInn standaards but I was disappointed with its size. Expected more for this price (almost 170euro for 1night out of season!! ). It is crazy for me but unfortunately that is the norm in Moscow. Personally, I prefer for same amount go to Spain and rent a 4 * hotel where same price is sufficient for 3nights! Going back to my stay-standard breakfast, no thrills. Good soundproof windows. No benefits for Gold Members.

Thank you for taking the time reviewing our hotel and the pictures you added. Our hotel is in walking distance from the airport but we always encourage our guests to wait for the free shuttle bus that comes every 30 mins. The pickup areas are directly outside the arrival areas and easy to find following the directional signage. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Regards Gerard
