Any ideas how long does it take for an agency to issue tickets for a booking? I have already paid the flight price in full.

' class=

This is a question only the agency you booked with can answer. Best to contact them otherwise people can only speculate.

this trip isn't ticketed yet emirates

Some agencies may well have a policy of leaving a long gap between ticketing and reservation... because ticketing means handing over the money. As per #1 you will need to ask the agency how long they expect this to take.

My Reservation Was Never Ticketed — Reader Mistake Story

Brian Kelly

Today, I want to share a story from TPG reader Alexander , who had an unpleasant surprise at the airport before a trip to Europe:

Spain is the favorite travel destination for me and my wife, and I find that award availability is decent on Iberia if one looks as soon as the calendar opens up 330 days out. For our trip in March, I transferred 68,000 points from Ultimate Rewards to Iberia Plus to book two one-way business class tickets from New York-JFK to Madrid (MAD) with about $180 in taxes total (we paid cash for our return flight on Norwegian). I received a confirmation email with the record locator, and we selected our two favorite middle seats on Iberia's Airbus A350.

We were all set for our trip, or so we thought. The moment of shock came while checking in at the airport , where agents told us they didn't see our names listed as passengers on the flight. Several supervisors were called in to tell us we were never ticketed despite receiving a confirmation email and selecting our seats months earlier! Iberia had emailed me a request to call and confirm my identity in order to pay the award taxes, but that email had gone straight to my spam folder. Meanwhile, my credit card was never actually charged.

We weren't able complete the booking at the airport because a separate office handles award requests over the phone. Since we had already made all the restaurant, hotel, and activity reservations, we were still inclined to fly that night, but we were told Avios redemptions couldn't be made for same-day flights. Our only option was to buy economy tickets for $1,200 at the desk. The lesson here is that when making an award redemption, you should check to see that your credit card is actually charged and a ticket number is issued.

Anyone who flies regularly should be familiar with confirmation numbers (also commonly referred to as record locators). These are the six-character codes you use to reference your reservation when checking in for a flight or making changes to your itinerary . You might reasonably expect that holding a confirmation number means your reservation is locked in, but in reality it may not be confirmed in the conventional sense of the word. A "confirmed" reservation is one for which a passenger name record (PNR) has been created; however, holding a confirmation number doesn't mean you've actually been ticketed. Until you have a ticket number, your reservation remains in limbo.

Confirmation and ticket numbers are often issued simultaneously, but not always. Award holds are a routine example: you'll get a confirmation number when you activate a hold, but you won't be ticketed until you pay for it. Ticketing can also be held up when booking partner award flights, since the issuing airline has to contact the operating airline and confirm availability. That process takes time (I've waited as long as a week), which can be problematic if you're booking at the last minute. An unprocessed payment is another potential delay, though it's less common.

Alexander has the right idea: you should get in the habit of checking for a ticket number after you book a flight, though I recommend doing so for both revenue and award fares. Airlines may include a ticket number in your confirmation email, or you can check the itinerary in your frequent flyer account online. Otherwise, you'll need to speak with customer service from the issuing airline to verify you've been ticketed. In any case, do not show up at the airport without a ticket number and expect to fly. Finally, Alexander's story is a reminder to review your itinerary before you travel (I think a week is a good amount of lead time). If something is amiss, it's better to find out while you still have time to set it right.

I appreciate this story, and I hope it can help other readers avoid making the same mistake. In appreciation for sharing this experience (and for allowing me to post it online), I'm sending Alexander a $200 airline gift card to enjoy on future travels, and I'd like to do the same for you. Please email your own travel mistake stories to [email protected], and put "Reader Mistake Story" in the subject line. Tell us how things went wrong, and (where applicable) how you made them right. Offer any wisdom you gained from the experience, and explain what the rest of us can do to avoid the same pitfalls.

Feel free to also submit your best travel success stories . If your story is published in either case, I'll send you a gift to jump-start your next adventure. Due to the volume of submissions, we can't respond to each story individually, but we'll be in touch if yours is selected. I look forward to hearing from you, and until then, I wish you a safe and mistake-free journey!

Important: Suspension of flights to/from Tel Aviv

If I don’t want to travel during severe weather conditions, what are my options?

We understand you might not want to travel during severe weather conditions. We have a very generous waiver policy for these circumstances, outlined below:

  • You can change your date of travel to seven days before or after your original travel date.
  • You can change your booking to the closest airport in the same country.
  • You can refund your ticket.

If my flight is disrupted and my baggage does not arrive with me, how will I get my luggage?

Please refer to our delayed baggage FAQ (Opens in the same window) .

Are there additional security measures for customers flying from Dubai to the USA?

Yes – from 26 October 2017 we’ll have extra security measures in place for all USA-bound flights from Dubai International (DXB). This is in line with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations.

There will be dedicated areas marked for US check-in, and you’ll need to answer security-related questions prior to checking in for your flight. Electronic devices will also be subject to enhanced checks at the boarding gate, and security checks will be required before boarding. Our Group Security team will be providing assistance 24 hours a day to help all customers departing on flights to the US.

All passengers will still be able to check in online, and drop off checked baggage at the Online Check-in Baggage Drop counters in DXB’s dedicated US check-in area.

Please note early check-in is only permitted on the day of travel, up to 12 hours before the flight departs and all travelling members must appear in person with all baggage and documents.

Am I allowed to import alternative smoking products into Hong Kong?

No, from the 30 April 2022, the Hong Kong Government has imposed a ban on the possession and importation of alternative smoking products, such as electronic smoking products, heated tobacco products and herbal cigarettes, in baggage, parcels, packages or as cargo. Parts and accessories for their use are also included in the ban.

The ban does not apply to medicines approved by the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, as well as to transit passengers connecting through Hong Kong International Airport without going through immigration. The Hong Kong Government will impose a maximum penalty of six months’ imprisonment and a fine of USD 50,000 on customers who fail to comply.

What will I receive as compensation if I’m not accepted on my flight?

We’ll give you a confirmed seat on the next available flight to your final destination. That’s in addition to a voucher that you can redeem for a complimentary return ticket on selected Emirates routes. Learn more about your options (opens in the same window)

Denied boarding compensation rules may differ depending on the local regulation.

When will I get my voucher and where do I collect it from?

You’ll receive your voucher at the Emirates Airport Services office, as soon as it is established that you’re not able to make it on to the flight.

How can I convert my voucher into a ticket of my choice?

You can book your ticket (on valid routes, as per the denied boarding options redemption zonal table) through our Contact Centres or ticket offices between 7 to 365 days after your voucher was issued.

The ticket will be valid for one year from the date the ticket is issued.

Can I give the voucher to family or friends?

No. The voucher is issued for you and can’t be transferred to anyone else. Once the ticket is issued, it is also non-transferable.

Can I exchange my voucher for cash?

No – unfortunately this isn’t possible.

Can my voucher be issued as two or more tickets?

No. The voucher can only be redeemed for one return ticket and must be used in one booking.

Am I allowed to change the date or route of my compensation ticket?

Yes. You can change the date or the route (within the applicable zone) only for completely unutilized tickets, at no additional charge, as long as it’s within the ticket’s one year validity.

Who should I contact to change the date or route on my ticket?
