Table of Contents

The Best New York Christmas Lights Tours for 2023

There are six Holiday Light tours in New York we can recommend. Each of them is a little different: some are bus tours, others are walking tours; some take place in Brooklyn, others in Manhattan. See the details for yourself to decide which ones of the New York Christmas lights tour is best for you.

The Christmas lights tours in Brooklyn focus around Dyker Heights (here is our guide to Dyker Heights Christmas Lights ). The festive neighborhood showcases the most popular Christmas decorations in NYC by far. Needless to say, the tours here are also the most popular holiday lights tours in New York. Coming here, you have the option to explore the festive neighborhood on foot or by bus.

The Christmas lights tours in Manhattan are both small-group walking tours that will show you the most beautiful Christmas lights New York has to offer. The longer holiday lights tour also includes New York’s most iconic Christmas markets . Amazing Places To See Christmas Decorations & Christmas Lights In New York

Every year, the holiday spirit takes over all five boroughs of New York. Though all Christmas decorations in NYC are beautiful, some are a little more impressive than others which is why we have picked out the absolute best places to see New York Christmas lights for you.

My Personal Favorites

From manhattan: dyker heights christmas lights bus tour.

This is one of the Best Dyker Heights Christmas Lights Tours

Since the tradition’s inception in the 1980s, this Brooklyn neighborhood’s decorations have become bigger and brighter every year. Now Dyker Heights is famous for its spectacular, over-the-top holiday decorations and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Strolling through the streets, passing one house after the other, you can see life-size Santas, snowmen, trees, and many other Christmas displays. To top the lavish decorations themselves, Christmas carols waft from outdoor speakers . If that doesn’t get you into the holiday spirit, what does?

As some of the most exuberant New York Christmas Lights, a visit to Dyker Heights is a must during the holiday season. The small neighborhood starts looking like a magical Christmas village beginning the week after Thanksgiving. While you can choose to explore the massive light displays by yourself, we can hook you up with an interactive guided tour that lets you enjoy the highlights and maximize your experience.

This is our guide to Dyker Heights Christmas Lights .

Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show

Saks_Fifth_Avenue_Holiday_Windows_NYC_211212210117004

Saks Fifth Avenue does not only boast festive holiday windows but also an annual theatrical light show . Seeing the holiday light show at Saks has become a tradition for many locals and visitors. The light show is accompanied by music and repeats itself every 10 minutes from 5 pm to 11 pm.

As some of the most spectacular Christmas Lights in NYC, you may imagine that the sidewalks are extremely crowded. Though that is completely true, it’s totally worth seeing the spectacle at least once.

Besides the Light Show, Saks also decorated its windows!

You can see the Saks Holiday Windows from November 21, 2023 on. The 3 minutes and 23 seconds long light show can be seen daily every 10 minutes from 5:00 pm to midnight.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

rockefeller_center_christmas_tree_191208095722003

Of course, the iconic Rockefeller Plaza is home to one of the most beautiful Christmas decorations in NYC. It is a holiday beacon and the epicenter of New York’s holiday season . Crowds flock here like nowhere else in the city to see the impressive tree in person. Thousands of light bulbs drape the tree that is crowned by a new dazzling diamond Swarovski star every year. Apart from the tree itself, there are angels and adorned foliage sweetening the sight of the famous display.

A special time to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is during its lighting ceremony . It always takes place the Wednesday after Thanksgiving. This year, it falls on Wednesday, Nov 29th 2023 and marks the 89th ceremony in its history. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is free to attend. To actually get a peek of the tree being lit at 8 pm, however, you need to be here many hours in advance.

Radio City Music Hall

radio_city_music_hall_191126151832003

Radio City Music Hall is a famous New York concert venue, in part due to its world-famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes. When you arrive, you will be overawed by the jolly exterior decorated with a Christmas tree for the holiday season. Across the street from it, giant tree ornaments provide the perfect holiday photo op for your next Christmas card. They are worth seeing during both the day and evening, as they are also illuminated once the sun sets.

While visiting to see some of the best Christmas decorations in NYC do not miss the Radio City Spectacular. The Christmas show is obligatory if you are in New York during the holiday season.

Macy's Give Love

Macy

Macy’s has a lot to offer at Christmas time: besides the wonderful Holiday Windows, the entire facade is decorated with many lights. Inside it is also decorated for Christmas and on the 8th floor you will find the famous Santaland!

Holiday Windows

Cartier holiday decorations.

221209104227001_Cartier_Holiday_Decorations

Have you ever seen a building wrapped in a giant Christmas bow? Cartier’s Fifth Avenue Manhattan store goes further than just decorating the windows. The entire building, which is a gilded age mansion built for Morgan Freeman Plant, son of Henry B. Plant, the railroad tycoon, is wrapped in a Cartier signature red bow. The shiny red ribbon stretches across the building from Fifth Avenue to 52nd Street, with festive garland outlining every ground-floor window.

The building is decorated now and will remain that way until Christmas. You can find it at 651-653 Fifth Avenue and 4 East 52nd Street not far from Rockefeller Center with the most famous Christmas tree in New York .

Bergdorf Goodman

221209104843002_Bergdorf_Goodman_New_York

Bergdorf Goodman is a luxury department store on 5th Avenue and has been selling upscale women’s fashion and accessories since 1929. The product range now also includes exclusive interior design items, bridal fashions, shoes, jewelry, children’s clothing and cosmetics in the upper price segment.

The Peninsula Hotel

221209111459001_The_Peninsula_Hotel_NYC

5 stars | The Peninsula Hotel should be included in every list of hotels in New York with the best views of Manhattan. It is located in the center of Manhattan and the skyline seems close enough for you to reach out and touch it. Its location on 55th Street and 5th Avenue means that you can feel the energy of the midst of the city from its terrace. While the views are impressive during the day, they hit a whole ‘nother level as soon as darkness falls. From here you can watch the yellow taxis stream through midtown in the rhythm of the traffic lights and the tiny-looking people hurrying amongst them from above. You can also enjoy this incredible view from your bed  in the spa area thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The Peninsulas small rooftop bar – The Salon de Ning – is also a great spot to spend your night!

Enjoy the Christmas Decorations at Bloomingdale's

564515929_4130a3742b_o

Bloomingdale’s is an institution in New York. The brown shopping bags that you are sure to feel like you’ve come across a hundred times in New York are very well known. There is a reason for this: the selection is huge and really valuable!

Bloomingdale’s is festively decorated just in time for the Holiday Season. For us, the store is one of the most beautiful in New York!

  • When? The exact dates are not yet fixed – I have asked them and am waiting for the answer.

Rolf's Restaurant

rolfs_restaurant_nyc_191113195910001

Rolf’s German Restaurant in Gramercy Park draws thousands of visitors and locals to its location. Why? It features some of the most over-the-top holiday decorations starting in November. It is not a typical location to see New York Christmas Lights, yet it made it on our list. You won’t find another restaurant with over-the-top holiday decorations like this one. The restaurant is transformed into a veritable fairytale, made up of thousands of ornaments hanging from the ceiling. The elaborate decorations alone make dining here worth it.

Christmas Trees in New York

Wall street christmas tree.

Wall Street Christmas Trees in NYC

The Christmas tree on Wall Street looks back on a long tradition: this year it can be seen for the 100th time. Not only is the tree itself festively decorated – the building of the New York Stock Exchange also looks beautiful, as it is illuminated from the outside in Christmas colors.

The 100th Annual Tree Lighting will take place on November 29, 2023 from 2 pm – 6 pm.

FOX News Christmas Tree

221209112747004_Fox_News_Christmas_Tree_New_York

Positioned in front of FOX News Channel’s Manhattan headquarters on Avenue of the Americas, the FOX News Christmas tree is a beacon of holiday cheer in the heart of the city. The annual tree lighting ceremony is an event to behold, drawing in onlookers from near and far. The tree itself stands tall, decorated with brilliant ornaments that mirror the vibrancy of Midtown. This spectacle adds a special touch to the holiday season, making it a must-visit destination on your holiday itinerary. It is located on 6th Avenue between 47th and 48th Street.

Bryant Park Christmas Tree

Light Festivals & Light Shows

Amaze light festival.

Amaze Light Festival

Superlative Christmas Lights can be experienced for the first time this year at Citi Field (the New York Mets’ stadium) in  Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, as the Amaze Light Festival. It is the largest festival of lights in the country and offers you booths with festive food and a light show in addition to the incredibly impressive Christmas lights. The Amaze Light Festival takes place outdoors and with the amazing stadium as a backdrop, it becomes even more unique.

You can stroll through a total of five themed worlds with millions of twinkling lights, 3D light decorations and a Christmas market. There will even be a small forest with lanterns and frost-covered trees. Every 30 minutes there will be an animation of the trees, which will then dance to Christmas music. Especially for children, this will be a real highlight at Christmas time.

In total, over 400,000 Christmas enthusiasts are expected to attend the Amaze Light Festival. Tickets for the event will be available from October 3 via the official website.

Luminaries at Brookfield Place’s Winter Garden

Luminaries Light Show

This beautiful holiday light installation was designed by LAB at Rockwell. Glowing lanterns that change colors and intensity will light the room inside the winter garden at Brookfield Place. If you stay here long enough, you may even catch a winter-themed show that is displayed every 30 minutes. They are one of my favorite New York Christmas lights, complemented by the alluring ambiance of Brookfield Place.

Brookfield Place is also a great destination to do some holiday shopping and connects to the Westfield shopping center inside the Oculus. When you’ve finished all your seasonal gift purchases, it’s great to sit down on the stairs inside the Winter Garden and enjoy the show.

Whitestone homeowner Kevin Lynch drapes his house in thousands of twinkling lights once again . What can you see here? Nutcrackers, Santas, snowmen: you name it! Only one night each year, the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center gets illuminated for the first time that season.

The tree stays lit throughout the holidays, but there’s always a celebration on its first night, complete with speeches, performances from popular singers, and NBC hosting the events.

While you can go stand outside in the cold, packed in among a crowd of people to watch the tree lighting ceremony, there’s a better way to watch the events unfold.

Instead, you can find a VIP experience enjoying the view of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree at a private townhouse rooftop for several hours.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to watch the Christmas Tree Lighting from above in a building inside Rockefeller Center, and the NYC experience of being that close is definitely worth the price!

My husband and I had a fantastic time at the Christmas tree lighting gala at Rockefeller Plaza last night. The music, entertainment, food, and incredible views all came together to create a once in a lifetime experience that we won’t soon forget. The event staff and everyone from Your VIP Pass made us feel welcome, were helpful and attentive and set the tone throughout the evening. It was the total package! The Ultimate Dyker Heights Christmas Lights Tour from Manhattan

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights

A house in Dyker Heights with white Christmas lights everywhere and snowflakes dancing on the house. A Nativity scene is centered in the foreground.

One of the top experiences of all New York attractions , it is THE top Christmas lights excursion in the city. Honestly, I would argue one of the best displays of Christmas light decorations in the entire United States .

What makes this tour so special? The rich history of the houses and the residents who call Dyker Heights home. Yep, the Brooklyn Dyker Heights Christmas lights are all about its people and the annual traditions they keep!

History of the Dyker Heights Lights

A closeup of a house with countless Christmas decorations and many toy soldiers, nutcrackers, angels, drummer boys.

This affluent residential neighborhood dates back to the 1800s when founder Walter L. Johnson set out to create luxury housing on his family’s land. He named the division Dyker Heights since the land overlooked what is now known as The Dyker Beach Park and Golf Course.

While there is speculation and many versions of how the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights started, they all seem to involve the Spata family. Believed to have started in the 1980s when she moved to Dyker Heights, Lucy Spata decorated her entire property with NO inch to spare. The Spata family has continued the tradition ever since adding more each year!

Another closeup of the Spata house in Dyker Heights with every inch of space decorated with various multi-color Christmas lights and figurines.

As you can imagine, not everyone was on board at first. However, the tradition did catch on and now many (not all) homes participate creating a spectacle that draws people from all over the world!

I love it! I love the festive nature, I love the energy and the patience (neither of which I possess). But, I do have one question for Ms. Spata. Where DOES she park her car during December? 😱

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights Tour

So, with the creation of the Christmas lights in Dyker Heights (I so love that it rhymes 😁) came the need for….tours, right? Well, of course!

There are many ways to go about the ultimate Dyker Heights Christmas Lights tour. Whether you create your own or go the organized route, a Brooklyn Christmas lights tour of Dyker Heights will be a lasting memory of your trip to New York City during the holiday season!

While there are different types of tours available (self-guided, guided walking, virtual , private, etc), the one I took and will discuss in this post is the bus tour from Manhattan.

Bus & Guided Walking Tours from Manhattan

Most tourists visiting NYC during the holiday season will stay in Manhattan since that is where “all the things” happen. Good news! Some tours pick up and drop off in midtown Manhattan .

Personally, I feel this is the best option because who wants to rent a car in NYC or pay for an Uber? If you opt for your own, self-guided tour (free apart from train fare), then the train (metro if you aren’t from New York) is your best option. More on that later.

closeup shot of a bench in Bryant Park showing its namesake engraved on it. Giant brown woven Christmas ornament balls are set up in the grass with Manhattan in the background against a blue sky

On our tour, we were picked up and dropped off a block from Bryant Park (across from the New York Public Library). The tour included round-trip transportation in a heated bus with a very informative tour guide.

Once we arrived in Dyker Heights, the buses parked in their designated area and we walked to the houses. The tour guide again gave us information as well as a little bit of free time.

Dyker Heights house with a family of snowmen on the green lawn and green and white lights throughout the yard, multi-color lights on the house

We had fun marveling at the sheer amount of work and creativity (not to mention the power bill 😳) that goes into displays of this nature!

closeup of a sign posted on a house in Dyker Heights asking for donations to help the injured veterans fund

TIP: Many houses have a way to “tip” posted in their decorations and some are in the form of charity donations. Consider tipping to help out with the enormous power bills (it isn’t cheap in NYC) if you would like to help!

When it was time to go, we followed our guide back to the bus and returned to midtown Manhattan. Depending on the time and your drop-off location, this is a great time to explore Bryant Park’s Winter Village, Times Square, or Rockefeller Center!

Located in the borough of Brooklyn, Dyker Heights is not far from the famous Verazzano-Narrows Bridge. This southwestern Brooklyn neighborhood is (basically) bordered by 62nd Street (north), 14th Avenue (east), Poly Place (south), and 7th Avenue (west).

When to Visit the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights

House in Dyker Heights with multi-color Christmas lights everywhere

Note: Dates are subject to change.

Typically, the lights are up right after Thanksgiving with tours starting the very next week. Offered daily throughout December, these tours fill up quickly in advance. I missed out on seeing them in 2021 because I waited too late. I learned my lesson and saw these Christmas lights in 2022!

As far as how long the tours run, the residents usually keep their decorations up through the first weekend in January. The booking calendar does a good job of showing the dates along with what is available and what is booked!

TIP: As soon as you know your trip dates, book your tour and then plan around it!

How to Get to the Lights of Dyker Heights

There are MANY different tours to choose from. We did this bus tour and it was fantastic. However, there are less expensive ones (looks like the difference is no snack/water) for a more budget-friendly approach. NYC isn’t cheap especially during the holidays!

screenshot of Google Maps with a blue line depicting the train route from Times Square in Manhattan to Dyker Heights in Brooklyn

If braving it on your own, the R train gets you closest to Dyker Heights. Access to the R train renders many possibilities depending on where you are in the city. Ultimately, you want to get off at 86th Street and it will take around 1 hr 15 min (during slow hours 😳) to get there one-way. Afterward, there is still nearly a one-mile walk upon arrival at 86th Street.

Where to Stay in Manhattan for Dyker Heights Bus Tour

While NYC is very easy to get around if walking or taking the train, if you want to center yourself near the Manhattan pickup/drop-off destination at Bryant Park, consider staying at the first option. However, if you want Christmas decorations and all the luxurious holiday bliss, consider the second and third options.

Hilton Garden Inn Times Square Central

It might surprise you to learn that New York in February is a fantastic idea. Cheaper costs, fewer crowds, and lots of events...so why not? #newyork #nyc #february #valentines #winter #couples #romance

The Hilton Garden Inn Times Square Central is my best recommendation as it is located right in the heart of Times Square and only half a block from Bryant Park. I’ve stayed here MANY times and my favorite is during the holidays, especially New Year’s Eve (prime accommodations to watch the ball drop without the crowd )!

It’s always a plus when staying near major train stations (like all the major 42nd Street locations) AND in walking distance of SO much!

TIP: Don’t get it confused with the Hilton New York Times Square that’s a block down the street. While still a good location, it’s much noisier/busier outside, and it’s NOT the location for the ball drop or half-block from Bryant Park.

The Peninsula New York

exterior of The Peninsula Hotel in NYC all lit up in hot pink lighting and Christmas decorations

Located on the famous Fifth Avenue, The Peninsula New York is gorgeous at Christmastime. They have everything inside and out decorated to be sure your stay is pure holiday joy!

The Plaza Hotel

Famous itself, The Plaza Hotel needs no introduction. Here, guests receive five-star treatment on Fifth Avenue at Central Park. The stunning Christmas tree in the foyer draws in thousands of visitors each season. Also close by are the famous Bergdorf Goodman window decorations!

What to Wear for Christmas Dyker Heights Lights

Heather from Trimm Travels sitting in a red high back chair among copious amounts of Christmas decorations in the Dyker Heights neighborhood

One of the photo opportunities they had set up!

Something WARM! Though the bus is well-heated and very warm, the guided walking part of the tour is not. NYC gets quite cold so I highly recommend something like fleece-lined leggings for the ladies, Ugg boots , a packable down coat , a scarf, and a warm beanie. For the guys, I mostly saw jeans, sweatshirts, sweaters, warm coats, and beanies.

TIP: This is a SUPER casual event. If comfort and style don’t translate into the same outfit for you, I highly recommend prioritizing comfort for this tour!

Tips for Visiting Dyker Heights Lights

closeup of a plastic reindeer decoration wearing a Santa hat that says "Merry Christmas"

• Remember to be respectful. These houses are people’s private residences. • Tours are approximately 4 hours round-trip. This time can change depending on NYC traffic. • No food or drinks are allowed on the bus. •There is usually (check to be sure) a restroom on the bus and that is the ONLY access to restrooms you will have on the tour. • Not recommended for physical disabilities due to the amount of walking involved. • Some (not all) tours offer a treat and water on the way back. Otherwise, there are typically food trucks in Dyker Heights selling (expensive) holiday treats and hot cocoa. • Dress warmly and comfortably. It can get quite cold in NYC in December. • Tours happen rain or shine so come prepared. It drizzled on our tour!

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights FAQs

closeup of a house's driveway and garage door in Dyker Heights surrounded by all green Christmas lights and two tall toy soldier statues flanking the garage

Q: Can you visit Dyker Heights without a tour? A: Absolutely! The neighborhood is free to access and walk around if you go on your own. Q: Where are Dyker Heights Christmas Lights? A: In NYC’s Brooklyn borough in the neighborhood of Dyker Heights. Q: Are Dyker Heights Christmas Lights free? A: If taking an organized tour, obviously they aren’t. However, if you are going on your own there is no entry fee to walk the neighborhood. Some residents have ways you can tip or donate posted among their decorations. Q: Are Dyker Heights Christmas Lights worth it? A: YES! Or else I wouldn’t be writing this article. 😜 Q: How long does it take to walk through Dyker Heights Christmas Lights? A: Outside of a guided tour, I would allow no less than an hour. If you want to truly take your time getting ALL the good photos (including standing in line for some opps), give yourself around 1.5 hours. If you have a bigger party, add 30 minutes to each allotment. *These times all depend on variable numbers of visitors on any given night. Note that weekends and weeknights after school lets out will likely have higher volumes. Q: Can you drive through Dyker Heights Christmas Lights? A: Not advised. The buses park a little ways out and everyone gets out to walk. Due to so many people in the streets, it’s hard enough for the residents to get in and out. Q: Are there food and drink options available? A: Yes. A few food trucks offer holiday treats and beverages (hot chocolate anyone?) scattered along the most popular sections of the light displays. Full disclosure: prices are a little high. Q: Can you do a private tour? A: Sure can! See how to take a private tour .

See? Isn’t it magical? It’s the perfect way to get out of Manhattan for a bit and see the calmer side of residential New York City. I truly enjoyed this Dyker Heights Christmas lights tour and hope you do too!

Best Christmas lights in NYC

The Rockefeller Christmas Tree

1.  The Rockefeller Christmas Tree

  • Things to do

The fabulous holiday icon of NYC, The Rockefeller Christmas Tree, is a must-see for both locals and visitors during the holiday season, whether you’re visiting before ice-skating on  The Rink at Rockefeller Center   or just passing through.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit daily from 5am to midnight. On Christmas Day, the tree is lit for 24 hours and on New Year’s Eve it is lit from 5am to 9pm. The tree goes dark for the season at 10pm on January 13.

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights

2.  Dyker Heights Christmas Lights

On the day after Thanksgiving, the neighborhood of Dyker Heights undergoes a transformation, as residents along several blocks in the area festoon their homes with elaborate holiday decorations. And we're not talking about a Christmas tree or a simple nativity scene: Among the kitschy pieces you might see are life-size reindeer, huge inflatable Santas and snowmen, Christmas carols blaring from loudspeakers and tens of thousands of lights.

Winter Village at Bryant Park

3.  Winter Village at Bryant Park

  • Markets and fairs

Bryant Park transforms into a winter wonderland each year, with ice skating, hot drinks, a cozy lodge, and a spectacular Christmas tree.

While you're there admiring the decor, also check out holiday shops where you can check off everyone on your list. Even if you’re simply passing by this Christmas utopia, take a moment to grab some hot cocoa, sit back and admire the magic.

Lincoln Square's Magical Lights

4.  Lincoln Square's Magical Lights

  • Events & Festivals

Folks walking through Dante Park on Broadway and 64th Street on the Upper West Side will delight in a new immersive installation called "Magical Lights." Eight giant trees there have been adorned with hundreds of strands of resplendent hanging vines that react to the sounds and movements of the public.

When participating in one of the many scheduled singalongs, you'll basically activate the decor, with light dances and changing colors taking over the space to create a pretty surreal sensory experience.

The activation is presented by the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District as part of a slew of other holiday-related programs on site, including the annual WinteRamble on December 21. On that winter solstice, visitors will get to admire an illuminated community procession of Frost Giant puppets and icicle lanterns. You can check out the full program list right   here .

The Santa Clauses' Winter Wonderland at Pier 17

5.  The Santa Clauses' Winter Wonderland at Pier 17

Turns out, getting to the North Pole isn't so tough after all. " The Santa Clauses' Winter Wonderland ," a portal to Santa Claus' hometown, has opened at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in the Seaport.

Typically a concert venue, the rooftop has been transformed into an immersive holiday experience inspired by Disney's "The Santa Clauses." Expect hot cocoa, skating and plenty of fun photo opps.

Find all the fun at 89 South Street through January 7, 2024.   Tickets   start at $25/person. Most activities are hosted outdoors, so be sure to bundle up in your coziest winter attire.

Frost Fest at Luna Park in Coney Island

6.  Frost Fest at Luna Park in Coney Island

For the first time ever, Luna Park in Coney Island will be open during the winter for a new event called Frost Fest. The park will be open on select dates through January 7 with legendary rides on site, a skating rink, holiday lights, shopping and Santa.

Tickets for the experience—offered on select weekdays and holidays, plus Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays—are now available   here .

Saks Fifth Avenue

7.  Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue’s ten-story facade makes this department store a can’t-miss stop on your Christmas lights tour. This year, the store is debuting a clock-like zodiac display as  part of its annual holiday initiative it’s doing in partnership with Dior.

Dior came up with the idea of a magical Carousel of Dreams with Dior codes such as the star and the clover as well as the signs of the Zodiac, "evoking the founding-couturier’s unique legacy and his lucky charms." It will be embellished with "a profusion of flowers," that will be lit up every night in a dazzling light show. Saks' windows will follow suit, with Dior styles and symbols installed in a "dreamlike" display.

See the Carousel of Dreams between November 20 and January 5. Typically the show runs about two minutes long and repeats every seven to eight minutes.

Radio City Music Hall

8.  Radio City Music Hall

  • Midtown West

Home to the incredible, high-kicking Rockettes, Radio City Music Hall is one of the most cheerful and well-lit landmarks during the merriest time of year. It’s no shock since the venue is known for its always-packed holiday show: Radio City Christmas Spectacular . Its twinkling Christmas tree is certainly captivating enough to make us want to stop and take a photo or two.

The Plaza Hotel

9.  The Plaza Hotel

While taking a winter stroll through the iconic Central Park, it’s worth stopping by the Plaza Hotel to enjoy the hospitable venue’s lovely holiday decorations. From Christmas wreaths adorned with ornaments, to pine-covered trimmings covered with rows of white lights, the view could cheer up even the Scroogiest New Yorker.

To make the most of the experience, treat yourself to afternoon tea while you're there.

Holiday Lane at American Christmas

10.  Holiday Lane at American Christmas

The holiday decor experts at American Christmas have opened their doors to the public for a holiday extravaganza featuring 100,000 lights, 100 captivating animatronics and figurines in nine uniquely themed areas. This larger-than-life display is sure to dazzle. Tickets are on sale here  for the experience just outside of NYC in Mt. Vernon.

This is the third year that American Christmas has hosted its public Holiday Lane event, and this year promises to be bigger and brighter than ever. Twice the size of last year's display, this iteration of Holiday Lane at American Christmas begins with a chance to write a note to Santa. Then, meet some reindeer, visit a land of sugar plum fairies, peek into the elves' quarters and explore the icy beauty of the Arctic.

Finally, end the trip at an area called Santa's Take Off where Santa's sleigh gets ready for its journey around the world. Santa himself will even be there on select days.

Hotels with over-the-top holiday decor

11.  Hotels with over-the-top holiday decor

‘Tis the season for tinsel, ornaments, and all things merry and bright. In true New York fashion, some hotels simply go above and beyond when it comes to the most wonderful time of the year. Even if you feel more like Scrooge or the Grinch this holiday season, we have a feeling these hotels and their over-the-top decor will manage to make you smile thanks to their festive charm whether you stay there or visit for a tipple.

From FiDi to Brooklyn and beyond, here's where to go to admire the lights and snap some holiday photos.

Rolf’s Restaurant

12.  Rolf’s Restaurant

  • Restaurants

This bar and grill combines traditional German food and beer with a healthy serving of kitsch, notably with its annual Christmas decorations. Year-round, you can enjoy a wide range of German dishes, especially meats and sausages, while an array of faux medieval paintings peeks out behind meticulously entwined oak branches.

Our Town New York

Sites & Neighborhoods

Our tours are flexible to meet your desires for what you wish to see and do. If you are already familiar with some of these neighborhoods, we’ll happily suggest substitutions of other neighborhoods during your tour.

A Tour Designed With You In Mind

This Tour is usually a 3 – 4 Hour Tour, depending on how many stops you desire to make, and how much of the city you wish to see.  It can be extended if you so desire.  All our tours are specifically designed for you!  No two tours are alike as all our guests have different interests.  If you wish to enjoy a snack, hot drink, or dinner while on this tour, arrangements can be made.

Your starting and ending location is usually at your hotel. However, we will gladly meet you at any local location you desire. Our tours are all about you and New York City!

Your tour will begin by your driver/tour guide asking questions such as:  “How many times have you visited New York City?  What have you seen thus far during your visit?  And then we customize a tour specifically designed for you to enjoy the many Christmas Trees and decorations throughout the city.   If you have a list of sites, stores, and neighborhoods you wish to visit, we are here to accommodate your wishes.

Experience The City To The Fullest

During your tour we’ll point out the contrast in architecture from neighborhood to neighborhood, which makes New York City so unique and interesting, as no two neighborhoods are alike. We’ll also recommend local restaurants within each neighborhood where you may consider dining while you’re visiting the city.  We’re glad to make reservations for you, as well.

Your request is welcome at any time for your touring vehicle to stop, so you could explore a site, store, market, or just to stop and take photographs as there are so many photogenic buildings and sites throughout the city.

Guests find our guides enthusiastic, entertaining and extremely knowledgeable in their ability to explain New York culture, history and all the many wonders that make NYC the special place that it is! Foreign language tours can be arranged for you.

Please allow us the privilege of touring you and your group throughout the great City of New York!

I went on this tour last week with a friend. This tour was a great way to see all the holiday markets in the city (there were a lot more than I thought!) and Russell, the tour guide, was great with fun facts and leading the group. NYC winter festivities can be overwhelming, so this tour was an enjoyable way to navigate.

I went with my parents and brother who came to NY to spend the holidays. The experience was amazing and we enjoyed every part of the tour and what NY has to offer during the Christmas season. The tour guide was very attentive and always have us time for pictures and explanations when necessary.

First, be warned, there is a lot of walking, so wear comfy shoes. Totally worth the walking! It's not just shopping and lights, but Christmas movie sites as well. Katherine knows her stuff!! Despite the crowds, she navigated us perfectly to the best spot for a photo opp in front of the Rockefeller Tree and views of the Saks fifth avenue light show. She gives you roughly 15- 30 minutes at each market (depending on the size). Do not miss, just watch the weather and prepare! Don't tour the mid-town until you book with her, you'll see a lot!!!

“I had the time of my life; I told everyone about how wonderful this tour is and most importantly that it is run by locals that give back to the community. Until next year (yes, I plan on making this a tradition) continue to spread the joy and kindness.”

“Dyker Heights Christmas Lights. This is one of the best New York attractions during the holiday season. The Dyker Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn is home to the most over-the-top Christmas light decorations. Watch more in my IGTV. Thank you @dyker_heights_christmas_lights for the tour. Check out this company for their wonderful guided tour of the light displays originating from Manhattan. ”

Noel Y. Calingasan

“Back in NYC just in time for the holidays! I’m very excited to be taking the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights tour in Brooklyn, NY. This area has the best Christmas decorations, each house has a different theme. Unfortunately, it can be a major drag to get here since it’s not quite accessible by subway. This tour can take you from midtown Manhattan to South Brooklyn in comfort and offer you a walking tour and take you back. No need to find an Uber for the same price, well worth it – had a great time!”

“Congratulations to Steven, for taking the lead role to create Dyker Heights Christmas Lights. It was a magical walk through the neighborhood seeing the amazing Christmas decorations. Plus, topping off the evening with delicious Brooklyn pizza, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa made it so special. We look forward to coming back! ”

Myra Lemberg

“Such a wonderful experience! If you’re wanting to view this neighborhood during the holiday season, you must go on this tour! Steven is a great host and tour guide. He is a local, so he knows the area well plus the history of this Brooklyn Christmas tradition. 10/10!”

Amanda Marie Medrano

“I have booked a tour with DHCL and we had a blast! The tour operator was so sweet and he was giving us a little historical explanation about the place! We started the tour in the local Church and the tour guide showed us the best way to walk in order to see the best Christmas decorations! Definitely worth it to book it with DHCL!”

Sisi Bolatini

“ Absolutely brilliant, even better than I expected, it’s breath taking and so dramatic! The tour is worth every penny and the surprise at the end is a fantastic bonus. Loved every bit of it! ”

“Beautiful Place! My 2nd year going. Like it more than Rockefeller decorations. You really get into the Christmas spirit here.”

20 BEST Places for Christmas Lights in NYC (DIY NYC Christmas Lights Tour + Map)

' src=

Looking for the best Christmas lights in NYC? You’ve come to the right place! I love the holidays in New York City. In fact, I make it a point not to travel at all this time of year so I can be a tourist at home and enjoy all the holiday magic this time of year brings.

New York City is just like the movies portray it during Christmas. From the window displays, holiday decor including Christmas trees all over the city, celebrations for winter holidays like Kwanzaa and Hanukkah in the mix, ice skating, holiday markets, and everything that just makes this time of year feel so special.

This is the one time of year that locals like myself join the visitors to the city in all the touristy and holiday fun festivities that happen! I do like touristy things off-season too, but I feel like those locals who detest the touristy crowds make an exception this time of year (except for those who are a little more Grinch-like!).

I have put together this guide to Christmas lights in NYC to help you plan your visit to the city during the most magical time of year! No other place in the world compares to the lights, displays, and festivities around the winter holiday season during December in NYC .

Many of these spots are near each other and easy to see in the same day, there are a few, however, like the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights and LuminoCity Festival that we recommend scheduling extra time in your visit/itinerary to fit into your visit because they are worth seeing and not on the main Manhattan New York Christmas Lights circuit!

Oh, and we’ve included a handy map at the end of the guide!

Also, don’t miss our winter in Brooklyn guide and best things to do in NYC in winter for more fun ideas to enjoy! And if you want to get ready for all the holiday fun in the city, check out the best Christmas movies set in New York City too!

New York Christmas Lights To Check Out!

  • Hudson Yards

Christmas-lights-in-NYC-at-the-Vessel-at-Hudson-Yards

An absolute must-see on your DIY NYC Christmas lights tour is Hudson Yards! The holiday light display boasts over 2 million Christmas lights, as well as giant, glowing hot air balloons, making the entire complex shimmer, glimmer, and sparkle. I personally love how whimsical the hot air balloons are!

Visit the shops at Hudson Yards to get some holiday shopping done. If you want an unbeatable view of the Hudson Yards light display, visit the Vessel or The Edge Skydeck observation for sweeping views of the city, as well as the best seat in town for seeing the Hudson Yards Christmas lights.

Or, if you’d rather enjoy the twinkling lights from the ground, just saunter around the outdoor areas of Hudson Yards to take in the magnificently festive views! Don’t forget to check out the displays in the mall too, which is a great place to warm up if it’s cold or take a bathroom break.

This is also one of my all-time favorite places to take Christmas photos in New York City too!

  • Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in Manhattan NYC

Possibly the most iconic display of Christmas lights in NYC is at Rockefeller Center! The world-famous Rockefeller Christmas Tree has been a New York tradition since 1933 and is lit each year on the Wednesday following Thanksgiving in NYC .

The towering tree, some years upwards of 100 ft tall, sparkles with over 50,000 multi-colored Christmas lights and a stunning topper covered in 3 million Swarovski crystals! Each year the selection of the Rockefeller Christmas tree is also a big deal.

A great way to see the lights at Rockefeller Center is to go ice skating! The breathtaking tree overlooks The Rink at Rockefeller Center, making for a glittering ice skating session!

If you’d rather catch a view of the tree off the ice, wander around the plaza and see the festive windows of the shops at Rockefeller Center. From the fun, glittering displays in Kate Spade New York’s and Tiffany & Co.’s windows, to the festive and heartwarming scenes from the FAO Schwarz Rockefeller store, window shopping is a beloved New York City pastime – especially around the holidays!

While you’re in the area, also check out Radio City Music Hall’s iconic neon lights, the nearby larger-than-life Christmas bulbs, and maybe even snag tickets to the Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular!

Rockefeller Center is an absolute must-see on your DIY NYC Christmas lights tour! And if you want to do something extra special, reserve a wintery igloo from the City Winery at Rockefeller Center for one of the most magical Christmas bars in NYC with a view of the tree!

Department Stores Window Displays

NYC Christmas department store window displays from 2019

New York City is known for its giant department stores and luxury brand storefronts, many of which have their flagship location right here. During the holiday season, these legendary stores and shops show out with elaborate window displays and Christmas lights.

What could be better on a chilly winter night than strolling through the streets of NYC, window shopping, and enjoying the festive sights of the city?

Your NYC Christmas Lights tour can take you down Fifth Avenue, past high-end stores with gorgeous and historic facades, decorated for the holidays.

Notably, the Louis Vuitton, Tiffany’s, and Cartier stores on Fifth Avenue extravagantly deck out their windows and storefronts each holiday season and while you’re down here don’t miss the lavish window displays at Bergdorf Goodman!

Bergdorf Goodman hands down has my favorite displays year after year. In my opinion, no others compare (although, they are all fantastic in their own way). Oh, and Bergdorf Goodman has the best NYC Christmas ornaments too!

Don’t worry, we have an entire guide to the best holiday window displays in NYC so you can hit them all up on your visit!

Make it a “Miracle on 34th Street” by visiting the Macy’s at Herald Square and checking out their amazing window displays! Or stop by Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship store, or Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue, and see their bright and stunning window displays!

Mosey down Fifth Avenue long enough and you’ll arrive at Rockefeller Center, where you can check out the decorated windows of the shops at Rockefeller Center!

Once you’ve seen all the lights down Fifth Avenue, hop over to Park Avenue to see hundreds of fir trees illuminated in holiday style between 54th and 97th Streets!

This is one of my favorite things to do on Christmas Day in NYC too. There’s something so magical about walking and looking at the windows on the holiday!

Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Light Show!

watching the Saks Fifth Avenue light show at Christmas in NYC

Some of the best Christmas lights in NYC are on the outside of Saks Fifth Avenue, which is worth mentioning on its own as they have their very own holiday light show that can’t be missed!

This iconic 10-story-tall light show is as dazzling and fabulous as the goodies inside the store. The Saks holiday light show is set to festive music and happens each night, every 10 minutes from 4:35 pm until 11:35 pm!

Each year the show changes and is synched to holiday music. It’s a show stopper and one of my personal favorite places to see Christmas lights in New York!

Better yet, this is so easy to tie into visiting Rockefeller Center as when you turn around from the Saks Fifth Avenue light show, you’re staring directly down the iconic view of the angels down the Channel Gardens with the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree framed up in the center!

  • Bryant Park Winter Village

Bryant Park Winter Village Christmas Tree in NYC

Visiting the Bryant Park Winter Village is like being transported to the North Pole! This Midtown destination is positively bursting with holiday cheer.

Besides the beautiful Christmas lights, you also get a stellar view of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building’s twinkling lights. You can grab a hot apple cider or boozy hot chocolate at one of the Winter Village’s amazing food and drink booths.

winter igloos at Bryant Park Winter Village in NYC

You can even reserve igloos to enjoy some good food and coziness with friends and family. Or, if you’d rather, get your cup of cheer to-go and check out the amazing holiday market, filled with booths of local businesses and artisans, where you can pick up some one-of-a-kind holiday presents!

Besides the overall feeling of joy that comes from the charming Winter Village, it is also home to some of the best Christmas lights in NYC. See the twinkling lights and the gorgeous Christmas tree while enjoying the chill and thrill of ice skating at The Rink at Bryant Park, which is free if your bring your own skates! (otherwise, it’s just the cost of the skate rental).

  • Brookfield Place

Megan looking at Christmas lights at Brookfield Place in Manhattan NYC

Some of the most glorious and unique Christmas lights in NYC, Luminaries features 650 glowing lanterns, suspended from the ceiling of a 120-foot atrium in Brookfield Place. The lights in each lantern change color and intensity, creating a beautiful ballet of light and color.

Visit Luminaries each day during the holiday season from 8 am until 10 pm to see the lanterns’ light show. The shows happen at the top of every hour, and are accompanied by songs that are festive favorites!

Once you’ve gotten to see the magical show that the Luminaries puts on, you can head farther downtown to Battery Park, hitch a ride on a ferry, and see the best Christmas lights of all – the New York City skyline at night.

  • Holiday Pop-Up Bars

Grinchy's-holiday-tiki-bar-at-Robertas-one-of-the-best-christmas-bars-in-nyc

I am not going to lie. I think I like the fun Christmas bars in NYC a little too much. I go year after year to see which places change themes for their decor (and even for the places that do the same decor year after year, like Rolf’s I still go once a season).

For a night out full of festive fun, check out some of New York’s holiday pop-up bars – a great way to see some of the best Christmas lights in NYC and sip on some festive drinks!

A festive ambiance, twinkling Christmas lights, and holiday-themed cocktails make the Miracle an annual pop-ups that you won’t want to miss. They have pop-up locations all over the world, with a few right here in NYC.

Perhaps one of the most famous destinations for seeing Christmas lights in NYC is Rolf’s German restaurant. An absolute winter wonderland decked out in true German style, Rolf’s at Christmastime is an Instagrammable dream! Grab a seasonal drink and enjoy the festivities at Rolf’s in Gramercy Park!

Rolf’s holiday decor goes up as early as late September, and we highly recommend squeezing this in earlier in the season if you’re able to as you inch closer and closer to Christmas, the line gets longer and longer to get in. I went in around Halloween this year and there was all the holiday decor for myself and my husband to take in the winter and holiday magic a little early!

That may not be an option for some, so don’t worry. A few of the best over-the-top places for holiday lights in NYC are actually a few restaurants, check out Oscar Wilde, both Lillie’s Victorian Establishment locations and Papillion Bistro for floor-to-ceiling decor that changes out each holiday throughout the year (not just Christmas) and each year their Christmas decor is different! I don’t know how they do it!

And one of my personal favorites can be found at Roberta’s in Bushwick where they have a Grinchy’s pop up and it’s a little more naughty than nice! And you get to pair your visit with some of the best pizza in NYC !

New York Stock Exchange & WTC

christmas tree at the New York Stock Exchange in Manhattan

Another one of the best spots for Christmas lights in New York City and another impressive Christmas Tree is at NYSE, or New York Stock Exchange, and the holiday decorations around the World Trade Center.

The New York Stock Exchange has a green and red projection of lights illuminating this iconic NYC building along with a giant, twinkling Christmas tree as well as Hannukah and Kwanza decorations.

Just a short walk from here, at the World Trade Center you can check out the holiday illuminations inside as well as the base of One World Trade Center has a holiday light show. Also, inside the Oculus mall has some subtle holiday decor! I love when they have red and green lights that illuminate the interior of the amazing architecture here!

Better yet, this is really close to Brookfield Place so you can see all three sites easily within a short walk.

Don’t miss the whimsical igloo dining on Stone Street either after you have done your holiday light sightseeing! Route 66 Restaurant serves up its American fare menu items to patrons in their outdoor igloo tents on one of the oldest streets in the city!

  • Holiday Under the Stars at Columbus Circle
View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Shops At Columbus Circle (@theshopsatcolumbuscircle)

Another one of the best places to see some beautiful Christmas lights in New York while checking loved ones off your holiday gift list is at the Time Warner Center Shops at Columbus Circle.

One dozen, 14-foot twinkling stars are suspended from the stunning 150-foot ceiling, and they put on a dazzling show along to some classic Christmas tunes every 30 minutes, from 4 pm until 7 pm during the holiday season!

The spectacular show can be seen from every floor of the Time Warner Center Shops at Columbus Circle, meaning you won’t even have to take a break from your Christmas shopping to see the show.

Once you’ve seen the lights and gotten some shopping done, you can hop over to Central Park for a winter stroll, or continue on your NYC Christmas lights tour to some of Midtown’s sparkling spots!

  • GLOW at the New York Botanical Garden

If you’ve seen all of the Manhattan Christmas classics and are looking for a fun addition to your NYC Christmas lights tour, head up to the Bronx and check out GLOW at the New York Botanical Garden!

This holiday installation has showings on select nights during the holiday season, with timed tickets available between 5 pm to 10 pm each night of the show. Visitors will see thousands of lights illuminate the already-stunning Botanical Garden, for a magical experience of light and color. Wander through the world of plants and light, and enjoy amazing ice sculptures, dancers, and musicians for an amazingly festive night.

If you aren’t able to visit during GLOW, you can still head to the New York Botanical Garden for their annual Holiday Train Show, which is one of the most popular things to do in NYC at Christmas ! Enjoy some of the best Christmas lights in NYC, awesome model trains, impressive replicas of NYC landmarks, and the natural beauty of the Botanical Garden all in one!

  • Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bronx Zoo (@bronxzoo)

Another one of the best places to see Christmas lights in NYC also happens to be in the Bronx! You can visit the Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights during the holiday season to see depictions of creatures of land, sea, and sky, illuminated in dazzling and colorful lights!

This mystical world constructed of Christmas lights offers visitors the chance to embark on five different animal lantern safaris, as well as see ice carving demonstrations, enjoy festive treats like s’mores and hot cocoa, watch awesome wildlife shows, and interact with stilt walkers, and festive costumed characters!

The Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights is the perfect place to take the little ones to see some Christmas lights and learn about the amazing animals of earth at the same time!

The zoo is open seven days a week, and the light display can be seen on Sunday through Thursday from 5 pm until 9 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 5 pm until 10 pm. Timed tickets must be purchased to visit the Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights, so plan ahead and take advantage of this amazing display of Christmas lights!

Also, this is after hours for the regular zoo, so if you want to see the animals plan a visit during the day and then be sure to snag a reservation for the holiday lights after hours! If you need a break in between both visits, consider heading to Arthur Avenue for some of the best Italian neighborhoods and cuisine the city offers to fuel up before seeing more of the best Christmas lights in New York City!

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights

Looking at the Lucy Spata House in Dyker Heights at Christmas in Brooklyn

MY FAVORITE! The residential lights in the Dyker Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn give the professional light displays of Midtown a run for their money!

Each year, Dyker Heights residents deck their halls to the max, supplying visitors with the ultimate DIY NYC Christmas lights tour. For over 30 years, inhabitants of Dyker Heights have created a winter wonderland, filling their yards with thousands of lights, decorations, and holiday cheer!

From the day after Thanksgiving, up until New Years Day, Dyker Heights is one of the best places to see Christmas lights in NYC!

Typically, the most elaborate displays sit between 83rd and 86th Streets, and between 11th and 13th Avenues in Brooklyn. For more in-depth information on the best way to see these gorgeous lights, read our full guide for everything you need to know to plan your visit to the Dyker Heights Christmas lights.

You can easily visit these famous New York City Christmas lights on your own using the subway (86th Street Station from the R train or 79 Street Station from the D train), you will have an estimated 15-minute walk to the neighborhood from the station. Or if you don’t feel up for that type of adventure, you can always join a  Dyker Heights Christmas lights tour  that departs from Midtown Manhattan by bus and includes a guided tour of the most extravagant light displays.

  • The Largest Menorah in Brooklyn

Brooklyns largest menorah at Grand Army Plaza during the holidays

No list of holiday lights in New York City would be complete without a stop to celebrate the Festival of Lights itself! Celebrate the eight days of Hanukkah with a trip to see the world’s largest menorah.

Located in Grand Army Plaza on the edge of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, the 32-foot menorah is a sight to see! With special musical performances, fun surprises for the kiddos, and hot and delicious latkes for all, visiting the menorah in Grand Army Plaza is the perfect way to celebrate Hanukkah and see some gorgeous lights!

  • LuminoCity Festival
View this post on Instagram A post shared by LuminoCity Festival (@luminocityfestival)

If you’re feeling adventurous, let your DIY NYC Christmas lights tour take you up to Long Island, 45 minutes outside of the city. LuminoCity used to hold their event at Randall’s Island Park, but are now a bit more removed from the city.

They have an acres’-wide light art installation, the LuminoCity Festival! This immersive art installation features beautiful and artistic illuminated sculptures, for a unique and breathtaking experience. This magical landscape is bursting with colorful light, and is the perfect experience for the whole family.

You must purchase tickets in advance for the LuminoCity Festival, with the events running from 4 pm until 10 pm each night.

Truly one of the most spectacular and eccentric Christmas light displays in New York, the LuminoCity Festival is a must-see during the holiday season especially if you have a car.

  • Industry City

Industry City Winter holiday decorations in sunset park brooklyn

Be sure to come and check out their holiday displays, ice skating rink , artisanal shops, and amazing dining scene! I personally love it here, it’s a bit under the radar for tourists and in a spot in Brooklyn you don’t find alot of tourists but it’s worth the trek!

There are plenty of great places to check out from distilleries, sake tasting rooms, and breweries, and my favorite is Japan Village which has a Daiso store (IYKYK, it’s a fun Japanese dollar-type store), Japanese food court, restaurants, grocery store, and shops!

There are also several courtyards where you can find fun holiday decor and plenty of shops to explore.

The only thing to keep in mind is that Industry City has weird hours as it’s really focused on day workers in the area. So if you want to eat, take advantage of the more sit-down restaurants (check their hours, some are closed early in the week) and don’t rely on the main food court as they close at 6 PM. Japanese Village stays open a bit later and so do a few other great spots like Hometown Barbecue.

  • Washington Square Park

Washington Square Park Christmas Tree in NYC Greenwich Village Manhattan

Located in Greenwich Village, Washington Square Park is not only one of the most popular and famous parks in NYC , but it has one of the most photogenic Christmas trees in New York City under the famous arch!

Each year on Christmas Eve, the holiday tradition is for carolers to sing under the tree. So if you happen to be here on December 24th, this is a fun activity you can enjoy too!

  • Radio City Music Hall

radio-city-music-hall-at-christmas-in-NYC

One of the most iconic stops on any DIY NYC Christmas lights tour is stopping at Radio City Music Hall along 6th Avenue, just a short walk from all the best department store window displays and the infamous Rockefeller Christmas Tree.

One of the best holiday traditions too is enjoying the live performance inside Radio City too! The famous Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes!

You can get tickets for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular on  SeatGeek , and when you add our promo code  BROOKLYNGUIDE  to your SeatGeek account, you receive $20 off your first ticket purchase.  (We receive a small commission at no extra cost to you)

Avenue of the Americas: 6th Avenue

Directly across from Radio City Music Hall on the Avenue of the Americas, aka 6th Avenue are not to be missed NYC Christmas lights and decorations, the giant oversized candy cane forest, Christmas bulbs, and giant Christmas lights!

These are a really fun photo spots too! If you get in the right frame at the giant Christmas bulb ornaments you can get Radio City Music Hall in the backdrop!

Also, nearby is the Fox News Christmas tree, which is one of the most beautiful Christmas trees in New York City to check out too.

Lotte New York Palace Tree

Lotte Palace New York Christmas Tree in NYC

One of the most elegant and beautiful Christmas Trees in New York City and a must on your NYC Christmas lights tour is the stunning tree at Lotte New York Palace.

This luxury hotel gets all decked out for Christmas and is one of the most popular Christmas trees in NYC for photographers and Instagrammers! With that being said, if you want to get the perfect photo here you may want to come early in the morning or during a weekday not so close to Christmas!

In addition to these 15 countries, the Trophy will also visit emerging Americas cricket countries like Argentina, Brazil and Canada to entice new fans to the sport.

"With less than three months to go until the first ball of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, there is huge anticipation for what will be a historic event for cricket in the Americas," said Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager, Marketing and Communications.

"As we countdown to the World Cup, the Trophy Tour provides fans with the opportunity to be part of the event in locations across the globe. The Tour will travel extensively across the Americas, igniting the passion of both new and existing fans to share in the excitement of T20 cricket's pinnacle global event coming to the region and what better way to kick it off than by lighting up one of the world’s most iconic buildings in one of the world’s most iconic cities.

"Cricket has more than a billion fans and we want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to get up close with the trophy that will be lifted by the winning captain in Barbados on 29 June.”
