Local News | Traveland USA, once the place to buy an RV in Irvine, will become a modern, ‘village-like’ office park

About seven years after closing Traveland USA in Irvine, the Irvine Co. is following through with plans to build a modern office park where millions of dollars worth of RVs were once sold.

For the nearly 40 years until it closed in 2012 , Traveland off Sand Canyon Avenue adjacent to the 5 freeway was a one-stop RV mall that attracted families with its frontier theme, duck pond and even a restaurant that opened in 2011 . But the RV businesses suffered from economic slumps and fluctuating gas prices, and some relocated.

In August, Irvine’s Planning Commission signed off on the Irvine Co.’s plans for Innovation Park, a 35-acre campus that will feature a series of low-rise buildings totaling 550,000 square feet, scattered among small parks and walking paths, cafes and fitness areas, that will create “a village-like setting,” according to a news release from the Irvine Co. It will use about half of the former Traveland USA property, but there are no current proposals for the remaining vacant land.

“Our aim is to meet Irvine’s robust job growth, especially in the tech and innovation sector,” Irvine Co. Office Properties Executive Vice President Steve Case said in a prepared statement. “This plan helps us meet that goal through a thoughtful master plan and market-leading design.”

The news release described Innovation Park’s architecture as “loft-style,” with exposed structural steel, skylights, roll-up garage doors and exterior staircases. A nonprofit ride-share advocacy group that serves the Irvine Spectrum and surrounding areas will work to promote use of carpools, public transit and bicycle commuting.

The Spectrum is “nearly fully leased,” so the new complex will make room for future growth, the release said. Innovation Park is expected to open in spring 2021.

• Irvine COLTS Baseball Club is a travel baseball organization based in Irvine, CA and is under the umbrella of Irvine PONY Baseball who has been fielding competitive baseball teams for more than 40 years.  Irvine PONY Baseball offers a year round program that incorporates recreation league play, Select travel division play, and hosts one of the largest 4-day international baseball events in California, Irvine Memorial Day Tournament.
• We are dedicated in providing youth baseball players the opportunity to develop and enhance their skills and reach their potential in a competitive baseball environment designed to prepare them for high school baseball and beyond.
• We are looking for motivated players who exhibit the desire and talent to excel.  We provide players with year-round professional training which individual player emphasize player development with consistent practices, games, and hard work.
• We started this program for the serious and motivated family who’s young athlete wants to play baseball at a higher level than our recreational baseball program.
• We look to offer players the best youth baseball experience in Southern California at an affordable price!  As a non-profit organization, we strive to offer dedicated athletes the best athletic baseball experience and not worry about a profit margin.  We are passionate about baseball and enjoy teaching the game!
• We field competitive teams in the 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U 12U, 13U, 14U and 16u divisions.
• We provide players with specialized training and instruction…  Staff members include professional MLB and International baseball players and trainers.  Who have competed and trained at some of the highest levels of competitive baseball.
• Irvine COLTS will focus on strength, conditioning and overall development of each player’s physical health.
• We teach good sportsmanship both on and off the field in a fun and positive atmosphere.  Our intent is to ensure a well rounded athlete to enhance both baseball and life experiences.
• We encourage respect and love for the great game of baseball in each and every player.  We want to improve their skills and blend new and lasting friendships.  We encourage commitment, discipline, team work through meeting goals and objectives.
• We expect Irvine Colt players to participate in local travel tournaments throughout the year and the Irvine PONY Select Division which runs from February through May each Spring season. In addition, Irvine Colts teams are excepted to represent Irvine PONY in the PONY National All-Star sanction tournaments each summer.
• We offer a year round package that promotes players to dedicate themselves to baseball and also creates a scheduled environment to play other sports.  The goal for the Irvine Colt’s organization is to breed athletes!
