Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain in Borneo and Malaysia. Its 4,095.2-meter-high slope is home to a diverse array of plant and animal species. It is a hotspot for biodiversity, notably for plant species.

Kinabalu National park where the mountain sits is about a two-hour drive from the centre of Kota Kinabalu City and is a popular tourist destination. Climbers came from all around the world to scale the mountain. Because there are only approximately 150 climbers permitted each day, bookings for climbing permits would be made months in advance.

A journey to Sabah would be incomplete without a trek up the mountain. Those who have visited Malaysian Borneo and seen the magnificent splendour of Mount Kinabalu would definitely agree that it is a must-see when visiting this region.

Climbers do not need special skills to reach the summit of the mountain, but they should expect their leg muscles to hurt and any stairs up or down to be painful for at least 2 to 3 days.

Differences between Mount Kinabalu Climb Packages

There are several packages available for visitors and most people will make the journey in two days, which is the shortest time necessary to reach the summit.

What are the differences between 2D1N and 3D2N Mount Kinabalu Climb Packages?

Many climbers have inquired about the differences between a 2D1N package and a 3D2N package. Regardless of the package you pick, the final aim is to reach the summit and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top.

Both climbs will begin at Timpohon Gate and stop at Pana Laban base camp, where all accommodation and food are at. Please bear in mind that there is no accommodation in any of the huts between Timpohon Gate and Pana Laban Basecamp, so you will have to push yourself to get to Pana Laban.

A normal 2D1N ascent begins with a journey from Timpohon to Pana Laban Base Camp, followed by a climb from Pana Laban to the summit on day two. Breakfast at the Pana Laban base camp before descending to the Timpohon gate the same day.

You might spend your additional day at the Kinabalu National Park if you are doing a 3D2N. The advantage of doing so is that you get to acclimate before the climb. Or you may also choose to stay an extra day after descending the mountain. This is perfect for individuals who want to take their time going down from the mountain and enjoy the mountain air and scenery.

What are the differences between Mount Kinabalu Climbing Package for Sabahan and Mount Kinabalu Climbing Package for Malaysian?

Mount Kinabalu Climbing Packages for Sabahan are made specifically for Sabahan and are subsidised by the government in order to encourage more Sabahan to climb Mount Kinabalu. You need to request this price from an authorised agent and provide proof that you are a Sabahan. The rates for Malaysian climbers are standard rates for Malaysians. You need to provide a copy of your IC as proof of your nationality.

09.00 hrs: We will drop by at Nabalu Fruit Market . Nabalu Fruit Market is a roadside market selling vegetables, fruits, snacks and handicrafts.

11.00 hrs: Arrive at Kinabalu Park Headquarters . Jungle walking with park’s naturalist on a guided walk. The route takes around 2 hours.

13.00 hrs: Lunch at local restaurant.

14.00 hrs: Heading to Poring Hot Spring. The route takes about 45 minutes.

15.00 hrs. Arrive at Poring Hot Spring . Upon arrival, hike for about 20 minutes before arrive at Canopy Walkway and enjoy your Sulphur hot bath.

Day 3: Kundasang - Kota Kinabalu

08.30 hrs: After breakfast, pick up from hotel and transfer to Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal .

09.00 hrs: Arrive at Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal. Take boat to Sapi Island . The journey takes about 20 minutes. Sapi Island is a white sand beach. The activities at the island are scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, banana boat ride and sea-walking. Next, we proceed to Manukan Island where pack lunch will be served. Manukan Island is the second largest island of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. There are various sport activities at Manukan Island such as scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing and etc. Other than these 2 islands, you can request to snorkeling at other islands such as Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik and Sulug Island with additional charges.

17.00 hrs: Back to Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal.

17.30 hrs: Back to hotel and rest.

Day 4: Kota Kinabalu - Kuala Lumpur

• This tour package is based on a join-in basis of shared guide and transportation. Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee. Please inform us when making the bookings.
• Departure time is approximate and varies from different hotels due to traffic conditions, please reconfirm with our staffs. Should the transport be delayed, please call the relevant telephone number as stated on the voucher before making alternative arrangements.
• We reserves the right to alter routes, timetables, itineraries and accommodation reserved should conditions beyond our control render it necessary.

About Twin Island Hopping

• Please do not bring valuables as there are no lockers on the islands.
• The boat journey to the Island may not be suitable for individuals who have any of the following conditions but not limited to: heart or lung conditions, recent surgery, back or spinal surgery, back problems/injury/fracture, arthritis, osteoporosis or other similar spinal/pelvic diseases. Pregnant women are also not recommended as the boat ride may be bumpy depending on the sea condition. If you are having similar issues as above, kindly consult your physician before you enrol in this activity. 
• We will not know when is the jelly fish season as it varies. Usually it occurs during mid of the year or/and end of the year. Just be extra careful and inform our guides should you be bitten. Our guides are first aid trained.
• Jelly bugs are common in the waters but they are usually harmless and it will just cause some slight itch.
• The two islands that you will be hopping to are Manukan Island and Sapi Island. Occasionally, we may change one of the islands to Mamutik. It depends on the crowd, water, jetty and or logistics situations, and this will be decided by our experienced operation team. Kindly note that we have stopped going to Sulug Island due to safety reasons such as water currents and damaged jetty.

About Kiulu Water Rafting

• Please expect low water levels during drought season. 
• Participants must be physically fit.
• Participants must be in the age of 5 years old to 65 years old.
• Child below 12 years old must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
• All participants are required to sign a liability release form.
• We strongly recommend you to take the morning departure for this tour due to weather conditions such as light rain in the late afternoon.

About Kundasang & Kinabalu Park

• Kinabalu Park is at high altitude approximately 1500 meter above sea level. You may bring a sweater along with you as it can get cold at night.
• The Canopy Walkway is approximately 60 meter above the ground, not for the faint-hearted.
• Poring Hot Spring Outdoor Bathtubs are for complimentary use and are free of charge. Guests can rent indoor bathtubs but at own expense.
• There are only ten (10) standard and five (05) deluxe indoor bathtubs at Poring Hot Spring. Rates are at MYR 15/- per hour per standard indoor bathtub and MYR 20/- per hour per deluxe indoor bathtub payable on the spot but are subject to availability.
• The Slide Pool located in Poring Hot Springs is closed on every Mondays for maintenance. Guests are able to purchase the entrance fee (at own expense) to Slide Pool for MYR 3/- per person. Free for 6 years old and below.
• Kindly take note that camera fees apply before entering Canopy Walk. Cameras will be charged MYR 5 each and Video Cameras / Camcorders will be charged MYR 30 each.
• Butterfly Farm located at Poring Hot Springs is closed on Mondays.
• Depending on the season, you may get the rare chance to spot the Rafflesia flowers in bloom, which only lasts for 3 to 5 days. They are located at the private gardens beside Poring Hot Springs. Entrance fees are at MYR 30 per person though this will be at your own expenses.
• You can choose to wait at the resting area if you do not wish to proceed for any of the nature walks.
• Though it is never expected, tipping is always appreciated.

Tour Itinerary

• Pickup from your hotel lobby or airport and depart on a 2 hours journey to Kinabalu Park Headquarter.
• En route passing by villages and a panoramic vista of the valleys of the Crocker Range.
• Along the way, take a brief stop at Nabalu. Nabalu is a place where the local natives gather to sell local produce, fruits, home grown vegetables and handicraft souvenirs.
• Check into Kinabalu Park HQ.
• Rest of the day you are free at leisure.
• Dinner will be served at local restaurant and overnight.

• Breakfast at Liwagu Restaurant in Kinabalu Park. Before you leave, collect your packed lunch from the restaurant.
• Proceed to the Park HQ to register for the climb.
• Our guide will arrange for all necessary registrations, assign you a mountain guide and apply for your ID TAG.
• Remember to wear your ID TAG at all times.
• You’ll then be transferred to starting point – Timpohon Gate – where your journey and quest to the summit of Borneo’s highest mountain begins! The climb will take approximately 4-5 hours.
• The trek will pass by different vegetation zones from Oak and Chestnut to mossy and eventually to alpine type of vegetations.
• Arrive and check into Panalaban Base Camp @ 3,272m or similar in the late afternoon.
• Buffet Dinner at Laban Rata restaurant and overnight.

• (02:00hrs) Wake up for early supper and depart for continuation of journey towards the summit of Mount Kinabalu.
• The journey up to the Low’s peak @ 4,095m will test your fitness and determination.
• Depending on speed of trekking, you might be able to experience the glorious sunrise over the majestic Mt. Kinabalu if weather permits.
• (07:00hrs) Descend back to Panalaban for late breakfast and check out. Trek down to Timpohon Gate for transfer back to the Kinabalu Park Headquarter (est. arrival 13:00hrs to 15:00hrs).
• Congratulations, you can now collect your Certificate of Achievement!
• Buffet Lunch will be served at the Balsam restaurant in Kinabalu Park HQ. * Due to the temporary closure of Balsam Restaurant, lunch will be served at Liwagu Restaurant after completing your climb.
• Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu City. Journey takes approx. 2 hrs.

• Lunch will be converted to a packed meal for all climbers who reach the local restaurant after 16:00hrs on DAY 03 (Mt Kinabalu descent).

About Climb Transport Arrangements

• Our friendly guide will meet you at your hotel lobby / greet you at the Airport arrival hall with a placard bearing your good name. Should you encounter difficulties in locating our guide, you can call our hotline number/s stated in your itinerary for further assistance.
• We do not recommend climbers to catch your flight on the same day you descend the mountain due to possible delay from injuries, tiredness and/or bad weather and traffic conditions.
• For 2-Day 1-Night packages, transportation will be arranged for Pick-Up from your Hotel between 06:00hrs - 07:00hrs. Our team will advise your Pick-Up time one (1) day before your departure. Kindly request your hotel for early or packed breakfast on the day of your tour.
• For 2-Day 1-Night packages with ferrata , transportation will be arranged for Pick-Up from your Hotel between 06:00hrs - 06:45hrs. Our team will advise your Pick-Up time one (1) day before your departure. Kindly request your hotel for early or packed breakfast on the day of your tour.
• For 3-Day 2-Nights packages and beyond, our transport can pick you up from either Airport OR your Hotel. Time is dependent on your arrival flight schedule. Please provide us your flight details.
• Additional charges of MYR 80 per pax are applicable for outskirt hotels pick-ups. OutSkirt Charges are applicable for Hotels in One Borneo, Putatan, and within 20km radius of Kota Kinabalu City Centre.
• All transportations are based on Seat-In-Coach. This is a transfer service in which clients share their vehicle with other clients. This is a door-to-door service with multiple pickups & drop-offs throughout the journey. Do expect some short waiting time.
• After descending to Kinabalu Park HQ, climbers are subject to pre-determined pickup time set by Amazing Borneo Tours with the last transport returning to Kota Kinabalu city latest by 1930hrs . We will ensure your possible wait of not more than 2 hours at Park HQ. However, if you missed the last transport (which is unlikely) or wish to depart at your own preferred timing, we can arrange a vehicle for private transfer for you (Subject to availability). Please understand that the surcharge for any private transfer will have to be borne by you.
• Private Transfer Surcharge:- MYR 450/vehicle/way
• Our group rates are quoted without deviation, which means we provide only one return transfers for your group. If your group requires more than one return transfers, additional transfer charges may apply.

Important Note:

• Climbers who reach Timpohon Gate after 16:30 Hrs will be imposed a fee of MYR15.00 per hour per guide and need to pay directly to mountain guide on the spot.
• Do take note that your MyKad (for Malaysian) / Passport (for Non-Malaysian) will be required for verification during registration at the Kinabalu Park office. Please bring it along with you.
• Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

Friendly Note From Sabah Parks: It is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting any mountain climb. If you have a history of suffering from the following ailments, it is highly recommend that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, Diabetes, Palpitation, Arthritis, Heart disease, severe anemia, Peptic ulcers, Epileptic fits, Obesity (overweight), Chronic asthma, Muscular cramps, Hepatitis (jaundice); or any other disease which may hamper the climber. Children below 15 years old must fill in the indemnity form upon registration at Park Headquarters.

Sabah Highlights Adventure 7D/6N

The tour definitely ticks off the highlights of this area. I got a private tour as nobody else had booked it for my time slot, hence, I got private guides and drivers which felt nice as it give me more flexibility and focus. I took a good book with me which kept me busy when I was in the jungle lodge and gave me a good break in this active tour. The crew of the snorkel trip was super lovely and all guides were very knowledgeable. The level of accommodation varies a lot. I liked the first and last hotel but the longhouse at the tea factory was too basic for my taste and I think an option to upgrade for additional money would have been nice. I absolutely loved to see orangutans, it was just impressive. Overall, I think that this tour was good value for money and I'd book it again.

Mount Kinabalu (Gunung Kinabalu/Akinabalu)  dominates the island of Borneo in South East Asia. It stands poised in the East Malaysian state of Sabah, and is protected as Kinabalu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The highest point of Mount Kinabalu is Low’s Peak summit, towering at 4095.2M (13,435ft) above sea level. It is the tallest peak in the whole of Malaysia and within the Borneo Island. It is the most accessible and easily trekked by most people. Based on topographic prominence, Mount Kinabalu takes the 20th place in the list of Tallest Mountains in the world.

The best time to climb Mount Kinabalu, 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) is during the dryer seasons which falls around March to September. The weather is slightly unpredictable with passing showers expected all year round as it is a tropical rainforest. The temperature at the summit of Mount Kinabalu drops to freezing point 0 °C – 3°C, whereas the trail from Timpohon to Panalaban basecamp ranges from 6 °C – 16 °C and before the start of the climb is around 15 °C – 26 °C at Kinabalu Park.

‘Act of God’ accidents aside, Yes, as long as you respect your mountain guide’s instructions and stay on the trail, there is less risk of suffering any injury or accident. There have been accidents where climbers wander too far off into the trails on their own and lost their way, injuring themselves or lost their lives during the climb, but please be aware that these accidents happen because the climber has failed to abide to the rules.

Panalaban is the pit stop or the base camp where climbers will take a rest before proceeding for the second part of their Mount Kinabalu Summit climb journey. It is located between 3,230 to 3,323 meters above sea level. Panalaban base camp houses a cluster of assorted huts such as Laban Rata Resthouse, Pendant Hut, Gunting Lagadan Hut, Lemaing Hut etc. These assorted huts provide overnight accommodation for climbers, inclusive of shower facilities and meals (Hot meals is only available on Laban Rata Resthouse).

It takes a minimum of 2 Days and 1 Night to scale Mount Kinabalu. Day 1 kicks off bright and early via Timpohon Gate, a 5 to 7 hour trek leads you to PanaLaban for an overnight stay. Day 2 begins at 2am, where climbers will attempt the second ascent up to Low’s Peak to witness the specular sunrise from the highest summit point at 5.30am. After which, climbers will begin the descent towards PanaLaban (if not participating in any Via Ferrata activity) for check out. The descent continues down to Timpohon Gate. You will be transferred to Kinabalu Park HQ, where you will be given your climb certificate. Depart back to Kota Kinabalu City or other destination.

Singaporeans, Chines and Indians do not need visa to enter Malaysia as they are in the visa free list.

From a relaxing cruise onboard the luxurious North Borneo Cruise and braving the Poring canopy walkway to an educational trip to Desa Cow Farm and UNESCO World Heritage Site and Global Geopark at Kinabalu Park, this is a trip perfect for a family vacation! 

I signed up the 4D3N Sabah tour with Anthony Wong during Aug 2022 Malaysia travel fair. Activated the tour only in early March. In between Anthony was very responsive and thorough in answering my queries. He even help to coordinate some last minute tours such as Maragang hill trekking and Klias evening River cruise. We particularly like the North Borneo sunset dinner cruise. The sunset view was fantastic. Everything went on very well. The guides for the tours like Gavin, Joel and Reynold were very attentive and courteous throughout the trips. Amy Ong and front reception Anther were also very helpful. Our trip to KK was very well taken care of from all staff from Amazing Borneo tours. Salutations.

Warmest greetings at Kota Kinabalu Airport!  Transfer to Kota Kinabalu city hotel.  

After checking in to hotel, feel free to explore and enjoy the small rustic city and nightlife. 

At 4.45PM , transfer to Sutera Marina Jetty for the North Borneo Cruises - Sunset Dinner Cruise experience!  Your evening unfolds along the sultry sun-tinged South China Sea, cruising pass the islands and water villages that dot Sabah’s west coast.

You are free to wander around the vessel. Panoramic ocean views, warmth of the setting sun and gentle sea breeze grace the upper-deck while a live band serenades the ethnic themed air-conditioned restaurant below with acoustic favorites.

Dinner will be served buffet style. Time to sink your teeth into Sabah’s most sought after culinary experience.  As the sun sets and the stars come out, Kota Kinabalu’s coastline now comes alive with dazzling city night lights. The North Borneo Cruises will glide across the Waterfront as you indulge in dessert or your next glass of wine.

You will disembark from the cruise at the Sutera Marina Jetty and transfer back to the hotel.

Upon pick up from the hotel lobby, you will be whooshed straight into Sabah's lush countryside. The first stop will be  Tamparuli Town for a walk on the famous “Jambatan Tamparuli” suspension bridge and soak up the small-town charm.

The next stop will be at the  Nabalu Handicraft Market . Nabalu is a rustic point perched on the hillside, where the local natives gather to sell local produce, fruits, homegrown vegetables and handicraft souvenirs.

Enjoy lunch at the local restaurant.

Your next agenda will be visiting  Desa Cow Farm . When you see the roads grow narrow along the way and the landscape gives your rear-view mirror licks of fresh green sceneries, the 199-hectare stretch of pristine farmland on the foothills of Mount Kinabalu means you have reached the Desa Cattle Farm!

Cattle graze the green valley pastures to provide nearly one million litres of mountain-fresh milk annually, all while travellers both near and far enjoy the outrageously scenic view that plays the backdrop to this dairy farm. You can get close to the cattle, bottle feed the calves, and enjoy fresh milk or yoghurt produced straight off the farm.

Then, transfer to  Kundasang  and check into a mountain resort. You will notice the change in air temperature at this elevated level.

You are free to explore the resort at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the mountain resort.

Poring Hot Spring & Canopy Treetop Walk / Kinabalu Park / Kota Kinabalu

On your third day, you will wake up to a misty morning ushering in views of sun-draped Mount Kinabalu. Birds chirp away while low-hanging clouds blanket the valleys.

The first stop for the day will be the  Poring Hot Springs  with an immersive exploration of Mount Kinabalu's treetops. The  Canopy Treetop Walk  invites you to witness the grandeur of a hundred-million-year-old rainforest from a 175 m-long walkway suspended 60 meters above lush jungly tangles. Take in the sights and sounds and discover unique rainforest creatures from a bird's eye view. A 20-minute hike is needed to reach the Canopy Walkway. 

Then, it's time for a soothing sulphur bath in the Japanese-styled open-air tubs! Dip in the all-natural mineral-rich hot springs water, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. There is also a cold water pool nearby for those who prefer a cold dip.

Next up on the day's agenda is the visit to Malaysia's first-ever UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark,  Kinabalu National Park . Set at 1,500m above sea level, this 754 sq kilometre park features one the tallest mountains in all of South East Asia as its centrepiece—Mount Kinabalu. Rising at 4,095.2m with cloud-hugging peaks that shade the valleys below, the majestic mountain is certainly a sight to behold from Kinabalu National Park.

Enjoy the refreshing and cooling air as you proceed for a guided walk along the nature trails in the  Botanical Garden  and learn more about Kinabalu Park's biological treasure trove.

Afterwards, depart to Kota Kinabalu city, where we will drop you off at your hotel.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

• Baby Car Seats (for infants aged 0-2) and Child Booster Seats (for children aged 3-11) are available for rental. Please check with your tour consultant for availability.
• Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu Airport on the day of your tour, our friendly guide will greet and pick you up from the airport with a placard showing our Amazing Borneo Logo.
• If you are arriving in Kota Kinabalu at night on Day 1, the North Borneo Cruises tour can be rescheduled to Day 3 upon returning to Kota Kinabalu after your Kinabalu Park tour.
• Standard check-in and check-out times for most hotels & resorts are 1400Hrs & 1200Hrs. However, check-in & check-out times may vary depending on each accommodation. So kindly check with us to get accurate check-in & check-out times for your accommodation.
• Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

About Kinabalu Park & Poring Hot Spring:

• Kinabalu Park is at a high altitude, approximately 1500 meters above sea level - it can get cold.
• The Canopy Walkway is approximately 40 meters above the ground - not for the faint-hearted.
• Poring Hot Spring Outdoor Bathtubs are for complimentary use and are free of charge. Guests can rent Indoor bathtubs but at their own expense.
• There are only ten (10) standard and five (05) deluxe Indoor Bathubs at Poring Hot Spring. Rates are at MYR 15 /- per hour per standard indoor bathtub and MYR 20 /- per hour per deluxe indoor bathtub, payable on the spot but are subject to availability.
• The Slide Pool located in Poring Hot Springs is closed every Monday for maintenance. Guests can purchase the entrance fee (at their own expense) to Slide Pool for MYR 3 /- per person. Free for 6-year-olds and below.
• Kindly take note that camera fees apply before entering Canopy Walk. Cameras will be charged MYR 5 each, and video cameras / camcorders will be charged MYR 30 each.
• The Butterfly Farm at the Poring Hot Springs is closed every Monday.
• Depending on the season, you may get the rare chance to spot the Rafflesia flowers in bloom, which only lasts for 3 to 5 days. They are located in the private gardens beside Poring Hot Springs. Entrance fees are at MYR 30 per person, though this will be at your own expense.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• This package is based on join-in basis of shared guide and transport vehicle.  Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee.  Please inform us when making the bookings.
• Amazing Borneo Tours does not guarantee wildlife sightings.
• Departure time is approximate and varies from different hotels due to traffic conditions, please reconfirm with our staffs. Should the transport be delayed, please call the relevant telephone number as stated on the voucher before making alternative arrangements.
• Amazing Borneo Tours reserves the right to alter routes, timetables, itineraries and accommodation reserved should conditions beyond our control render it necessary.
• Tipping is like giving a hug. Although it’s never expected, it’s always very much appreciated.

USEFUL TRAVEL TIPS

• Stay warm! You may bring a sweater along with you as it can get a wee bit chilly up in Kinabalu Park.
• Arrival: It is recommended to book flights which arrive in Kota Kinabalu before 14:00hrs on the first day in order to make it for the North Borneo Cruises. If your flight arrives after 14:00hrs, we will reschedule your cruise session to Day 3. 
• Departure: You can book any flight time for departure from Kota Kinabalu on your last day.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s east coast Semporna district was the most sought-after destination at the recent Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair in Kuala Lumpur.

Tour companies and hotels from the state raked in almost RM3mil in sales at the fair from March 22 to 24.

Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said there was also strong interest in nature-based attractions in the Sandakan and Lahad Datu districts.

Bangkuai, who is also Sabah Tourism Board (STB) chairman, also said there were solid bookings on the Danum Valley excursion – one of the world’s oldest rainforests.

He noted that Sabah's image as a "healing destination" appealed to visitors as it reflected the state's close connection to natural beauty, tranquil islands, and thrilling adventures.

“It is essential that all key tourism players maintain momentum and foster creativity and innovation in promoting Sabah to domestic tourists,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 26).

"Attracting domestic tourists requires continuous evolution in strategies to keep Sabah as top-of-mind for travellers," he added.

The fair's success also demonstrated Sabah's versatility in catering to various leisure preferences, as seen by the selling of golf packages by tour operators.

With a strong presence of 26 Sabah tour operators, including one at the Tourism Malaysia pavilion and two participating hotels, the MATTA Fair was an excellent opportunity to showcase Sabah's diverse tourism products to a large audience.

Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, accompanied by tourism officials, also stopped by the Sabah Tourism booth to check out its offerings.

In the event, STB led the Sabah zone with 10 booths, offering rebates called “Token Rehat Minda” worth up to RM150 for each purchase made in a single receipt for any Sabah tour package.

Present at the Matta Fair were the Sabah tourism ministry’s permanent secretary, Josie Lai and STB chief executive officer Julinus Jeffrey Jimit.

Jimit also met with airlines and key tourism players from the peninsula at the sidelines of the travel fair.

The engagement highlighted Sabah Tourism’s ongoing commitment to fostering strategic partnerships and enhancing opportunities for growth and collaboration.
