If you love cruising , you're probably acquainted with PortMiami. It's the busiest homeport in America, with more than 5.5 million passengers embarking on ships there each year (based on 2018/2019 statistics).

It's the perfect place from which to set sail to the Caribbean , Panama, Mexico and beyond. Twenty-two cruise lines sail from PortMiami, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a ship and itinerary that works for you. The port is easy to get to -- with both Miami International Airport (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) airports close by -- and there are plenty of points hotels for a pre- or post-cruise stay.

Sailing out of Miami is a rite of passage and the sail-away is truly one of the most beautiful in the world. As your ship sets off timed with the setting sun, the city's high-rises and golden beaches glisten as they bid you a bon voyage.

The port consists of nine cruise terminals: Terminal A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J. Disney will soon cruise out of a new terminal (K), as will Virgin Voyages (V).

We'll discuss the port's parking garages and lots below. (You can download a PDF of the below PortMiami map .)

Pro tip: If anyone in your party needs a wheelchair to transfer from the cruise terminal entrance to the ship, call your cruise line in advance to arrange -- or have your travel agent do so, if necessary.

Who sails from PortMiami?

The following cruise lines have ships that homeport out of PortMiami: Azamara, Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Viking and Virgin Voyages. Nearest airports

The Miami International Airport (MIA) is just a short drive -- about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic -- from the cruise port. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is an alternative and the drive to PortMiami from there takes about an hour.

Tons of airlines fly to MIA, including American, Delta, Frontier, Sun Country and United. If you'd prefer to fly through FLL, your choices include Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Silver Airways, Southwest, Spirit and United.

There are sometimes buy one, get one free airfare opportunities when flying to these airports. Consider Frontier's periodic Friends Fly Free or Kids Fly Free offers if you're a member of the airline's Discount Den . Or sign up for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card and get a companion certificate on the card's anniversary. The certificate allows a companion to fly with you for $121 ($99 fare and the cost of taxes from $22). You can also bring a companion along for free (actually, just the cost of the ticket's taxes) if you have the Southwest Companion Pass .

Outbound flight times don't always dovetail perfectly with your cruise line's disembarkation time, so you may find yourself with time to kill at the airport.

Make sure you carry a credit card with airport lounge access as a benefit. The Chase Sapphire Reserve gives you access to Priority Pass lounges and participating restaurants while The Platinum Card® from American Express will open the door to the Amex Centurion Lounge at MIA .

How to get to the port

Cruise line transfers.

You can often buy a transfer between the airport and the cruise terminal (or your hotel) directly from your cruise line. Sometimes this is reserved for travelers who've purchased their airfare from the cruise line, but you can call to ask if you can buy the transfers a la carte. For example, Carnival Cruise Line offers transportation between MIA ($16.99 per person) and FLL ($31.99 per person) and PortMiami on embarkation day.

Hotel shuttles

If you're staying at a hotel near the airport (like the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami-Airport South-Blue Lagoon), it may offer complimentary shuttle service. Other hotels may offer a free or paid shuttle from the hotel to PortMiami. Inquire when you make your reservations. For example, the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Miami Brickell Downtown offers a shuttle to PortMiami for $8 per person.

Independent van and car services

There are also a variety of local companies that operate shared and private van shuttles and limo services from MIA and FLL to area hotels and the port. Research vendors like Port of Miami Shuttle, GO Airport Shuttle or Metro Shuttle Service. Prices vary depending on if you select a shared or private ride, the number of passengers in your party and the type of vehicle requested (i.e., sedan, SUV, van, etc.).

Nationally known services like Groundlink also offer private car service pick-up and drop-off. The fare from MIA to PortMiami is about $70 for a standard vehicle that accommodates three people. Add $20 if you need a child car set. A van accommodating up to 10 people priced out at $144.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Hailing a taxi to take you to PortMiami is simple and it's a flat fee of $27. Taxi stands are on the arrival (ground) level of the airport (outside baggage claim). If you're going somewhere other than the port, the metered rate is $6.90 for the first mile and then $2.40 for each mile thereafter. Waiting time is $0.40 per minute.

Ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft are also an option. An Uber Pool from MIA to PortMiami can be less than $6, UberX can be around $11 and UberXL can be around $21. Premier and SUV cars can run around $30–$50 and all prices can vary during traffic or high-demand times. The Uber ride from FLL will be more expensive: about $30 via Pool, $36 for Uber X and $70 for UberXL. Premier and SUV cards run from $80–$160 from FLL.

Public transportation from MIA

Board Metrorail's Orange Line (look for signs to the Metrorail Train Station) to Downtown Miami, which will take less than 30 minutes. The fare is $2.25 per person. It's about a 1.5-mile-walk from the Freedom Tower station to the port, so you'll want to grab an Uber or taxi from there. Or take the Miami Trolley Coral Way route (free) all the way to the port. You can track the location of the trolley in real time with this handy, interactive map .

Public transportation from FLL

Take the Tri-Rail commuter train to MIA ($3.75 per person on weekdays and $5 per person on weekends). Then board Metrorail's Orange Line ($2.25 per person) and head downtown to the Freedom Tower stop. Finally, board the free Coral Way Route Trolley and disembark at PortMiami.

Port parking

There are four parking garages and a handful of lots at which you can park if you're arriving at PortMiami via car. If you're driving an over-length vehicle (RV or vehicle with trailer), head to Lot 2 (across from Terminal E), which is set up with extra-large spots. Extra fees apply (see below). On embarkation day, the garages and Lot #2 are open and staffed by a parking attendant from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You may drop off your luggage at the terminal before parking. There is also a free shuttle from each parking facility to the terminal. Security patrols all parking garages and lots.

All cruise terminals have associated parking lots, starting at $22 per night. Royal Caribbean's Terminal A Garage charges a higher rate of $25 per day, and vehicles longer than 20 feet (e.g., oversized vans, recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers) incur an additional $22 per day. Those with a disabled parking permit or license tag receive two hours of complimentary parking, after which they will incur standard parking rates.

Note that cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and major U.S. traveler's checks — but not debit cards — are accepted modes of payment. However, Garage J is prepaid only (pay when you arrive), and vehicles need to display a special decal throughout the duration of the cruise.

Where to stay near the port

This is The Points Guy and there is thankfully no shortage of points hotels in Miami. Your toughest job is deciding which one is best for your needs. That will depend on how long you're staying, what you'd like to see while you're in town and how many hotel points you have to spend.

Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Miami/Brickell Downtown

For a quick overnight before a cruise, we like the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Miami/Brickell Downtown (38,000 to 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night).

Related: Best Hilton credit cards

It's in a fantastic location with easy access to the free Metromover that can take you places like the Bayside Marketplace (which is also walkable). The hotel has several on-site restaurants and is near plenty of others plus it has a shuttle to the port for $8 per passenger. And, the chain's free breakfast is a great way to start the day and hold you over until you get aboard your ship and can enjoy a leisurely lunch before sail-away.

Pick up the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card and earn 150,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 in purchases on the card within your first three months of membership. Plus, you get complimentary Hilton Diamond status , a $250 Hilton resort credit and a Weekend Night Reward with the new card and then again on every card renewal anniversary. The card comes with an annual fee of $450 (see rates & fees).

JW Marriott Miami

In the same neighborhood as the Hampton Inn, you'll find the upscale, full-service JW Marriott Miami . It's a Category 5 property, which means you can book a night with 35,000 points or an annual reward night certificate (worth up to 35,000 points) like the one you get on your card renewal month with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card or the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card during standard dates.

Depending on your elite status tier with Marriott Bonvoy, you may be eligible for free breakfast at this hotel .

The Confidante Miami Beach

If you have your heart set on a South Beach hotel, look to The Confidante Miami Beach in the Unbound Collection by Hyatt. It's a steal at just 15,000 World of Hyatt points per night ( or a Hyatt Category 1 - 4 award certificate. ). Even the top 710-square-foot Confidante Suite with a corner balcony and sweeping Atlantic Ocean views only cost around $385 on some pretty peak winter dates.

Where to shop near the port

If you need to stock up on some last-minute cruise supplies, PortMiami is near two major shopping centers, Bayside Marketplace and Brickell City Centre.

Bayside Marketplace (401 Biscayne Blvd.) is an open-air shopping and entertainment complex on the waterfront that buzzes with energy and offers stunning views of Biscayne Bay and the cruise port. If this is your first time cruising out of Miami, a visit to the marketplace is a must. In addition to shopping and live performances, the waterfront marketplace offers numerous dining options including a Hard Rock Cafe, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Segafredo. This is also the place to book sightseeing tours and even a thrilling speedboat tour if you're in town before or after your cruise.

If you're already at the port and want to do some last-minute shopping at Bayside Marketplace, get on the free Coral Way Trolley and disembark at the Biscayne Blvd. stop. You can also walk to the mall; it takes about 15 minutes from the port.

From Downtown Miami and the Brickell area, take the free Metromover Inner Loop to the Bayside stop.

Miami's bayside

If you have high-end shopping on your mind, head on over to Brickell City Centre (701 S. Miami Ave.), where four floors and more than 120 stores are dedicated to designer labels and luxury. The Saks Fifth Avenue here is 107,000 square feet! There's also a dine-in movie theater, CMX. For restaurants, there are many to choose from. We like Luke's Lobster, Pubbelly Sushi and Quito la Huella (Latin American farm-to-table organic fare).

To get to Brickell City Centre, take the free Metromovers Brickell Loop and exit at the Brickell City Centre station. Or, board a free Miami Trolley: the Brickell Trolley if you're coming from the south or the Biscayne Trolley if you're coming the north.

Where to eat

Restaurants near PortMiami are aplenty and feature various international cuisines. Versailles in Little Havana is a 15-minute taxi ride from the port and is a local legend serving excellent Cuban cuisine. For affordable Italian food, head to Macchialina in Miami Beach (a 12-minute cab ride) and for some Peruvian fare, CVI.CHE 105 -- about 10 minutes from the port -- has great reviews online and is worth a try. Of course, for modern American cuisine, there's the Rusty Pelican with great views of the Miami skyline (15 minutes from the port).

Sights to see

Miami is both a major urban center and a jumping-off point for some of Florida's most pristine nature reserves. You could spend weeks here and still not see everything. Here's where to start if you want to tack on some time to your cruise.

South Beach

You can't visit Miami without spending some time in South Beach. You've seen it on TV and heard about it from your friends -- now it's your turn to explore the neighborhood yourself. Stroll along Ocean Drive and get lost in the Art Deco Historic District, or enjoy some shopping, dining and gallery-hopping at the famous pedestrian Lincoln Road Mall. To get that perfect selfie with Miami as the backdrop, head to South Pointe Park and Pier, where you can get a view of not only South Beach but also Fisher Island, PortMiami and Downtown Miami. This is also the place to experience Miami's nightlife at its best.

Here, kids and kids at heart can marvel at the 500,000-gallon aquarium, kid-friendly touch tanks and the 250-seat 3D planetarium. There are also exhibits on the solar system, physics of flight, biology, light and lasers, and more. Tickets cost $27.95 for adults, $18.95 for youth ages 3–11. Afterward, leave time to admire the museum's sculpture garden and take in the views of Biscayne Bay.

Wynwood Arts District

The Wynwood Arts District is an excellent spot to visit if you're into art and you've got inquisitive kids. This is basically an outdoor museum with a variety of colorful wall murals. As you walk and discover the neighborhood's art, stop at craft breweries, art galleries and trendy restaurants and cafes.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

If you have time in Miami and want to enjoy the outdoors, you couldn't do better than a visit to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (1200 Brandon Blvd., Key Biscayne); open 8 a.m. through sundown. Located at the tip of Key Biscayne, it has 400 acres of nature hemmed in by a one-mile-long beach. You can rent bikes ($9/hour) to ride the trails, go swimming and tour a lighthouse from the early 1820s. Admission is $8 per car (2–8 people), $4 for a single-occupant car and $2 for pedestrians or bicyclists.

Ocean Drive Miami: The Complete Guide

cruise on ocean drive miami

Ocean Drive is Miami ’s most iconic street, likely because of all the movies it's been featured in and it's also usually the first place people think of when they hear Miami Beach. The pastel-hued, art deco buildings, colorful night lights, fancy cars and of course, rows and rows of palm trees are exactly what make Ocean Drive quintessential Miami. Stretching from 1 st  street all the way up till 15 th  street, Ocean Drive is filled with colorful shops, all types of dinning and, of course, the best people-watching around. You don’t want to miss this emblematic locale.

The Best Things to Do on Ocean Drive

Take a walking tour: Start your day at the Art Deco Welcome Center  and join a walking tour of the district. You'll get an exciting insight into the history and architecture in the area and get to visit many of the iconic Art Deco buildings—you are sure to recognize a few from some Hollywood hits. After the tour, grab some brunch at the tasty Front Porch Cafe .

Enjoy a pool party: Fill your afternoon with some shopping on nearby Lincoln Road, or let loose at a South Beach pool party . Many of the area hotels open their doors mid-day for open bar pool parties with celebrity DJs and lots of bronzed, beautiful people. Try the Clevelander Hotel  or HighBar at the nearby Dream Hotel on Collins Ave for a great time and a full crowd.

Bike the Drive: Of course, there are options for those seeking a less intoxicated day, too. Renting bikes is a popular and fun activity. Ocean Drive is equipped with CitiBike rental stations , or try one of the many rental spots along the street. On a day that's not too hot, this is a great family-friendly activity. There are also plenty of nearby activities in Miami proper  that all ages will enjoy.

Where to Eat

Ocean Drive has spot after spot of great food and award-winning restaurants. High-end diners will love all of the delectable indulgences available. History-buffs will love eating at Gianni's at the Villa located in Casa Casuarina, the former home of fashion designer, Gianni Versace. The menu is a bit pricey, but the ambiance is worth it.

Mango's Tropical Cafe is a great place for a lively dinner. The restaurant and bar features nightly live entertainment with a Latin flair. Seafood lovers will enjoy the Ocean Drive staple, A Fish Called Avalon . The restaurant is located in remodeled Art Deco building and features fresh seafood cuisine served daily. Dine inside or on their expansive street patio overlooking the ocean.

How to Get There

Ocean Drive starts at South Pointe just south of 1st Street, near the southernmost end of the main barrier island of Miami Beach, about a quarter-mile west of the Atlantic Ocean. Ocean Drive continues north to 15th Street, southeast of Lincoln Road. It's about 1.3 miles long.

History of Ocean Drive

In the 1910s, Miami pioneers Carl Fisher, John Collins, and the banking Lummus brothers, bought a failing piece of cropland and mangroves from the father and son duo Henry and Charles Lum. The group of ambitious men had the pockets to invest in the swamp land and by 1913 Fisher completed the first luxury hotel in the area. Soon after that, the Lincoln Road shopping district was built and by 1920, a South Beach land boom had started. Suddenly, hotels, mansions, and luxury buildings were popping up everywhere.

The architectural style most popular at the time was Art Deco, which is why so much of the area is built with the iconic look. As more and more hotels were popping up, Ocean Drive started to become a real hot spot, mainly for its views and proximity to the water.

By 1980, the Ocean Drive area was beginning to look run-down and haggard. It was losing its special appeal, and many of the historic buildings weren't kept up. But this degradation prompted a city-wide renaissance of sorts, and the community mobilized to restore many of the priceless Art Deco buildings that are alive and well today.

About the Architecture

The architecture on Ocean Drive is a combination of all types of styles from all different architects. It is, however, considered to be an Art Deco capital and is home to the largest concentration of 1920s and '30s resort-style architecture.

The Art Deco style that is present on Ocean Drive today was influenced by the 1924 Paris Exposition "des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes," which was the Paris design fair that celebrated the decorative arts’ relationship with technology. A lot of Mayan and Egyptian motifs were used along with clean lines and geometric patterns. South Beach took it to the next level by adding nautical and tropical designs from nature as well. This is also what gives the Art Deco architecture of South Beach that special something.

Ocean Drive is Miami's legendary strip , the bustling road that runs parallel to the Atlantic Ocean, lined with a fantastic array of Art Deco buildings, cafes and bars, shops, boutique hotels, and their fabulous sizzling nightscene...

This is the place to see and be seen, where everything goes and best to be enjoyed when you just go with the flow and have no expectations.

Ocean Drive in the daytime

Before noon, the vibe is mellow as everyone lazily rolls out for their cortaditos and cafés con leche , newspapers and morning jogs.

BOcean Drive and the beach at Lummus Park

A lot of the action then is accross the road along the beach and Lummus Park with bikers and roller skaters cruising the promenade and sun worshippers enjoying just another beautiful day in paradise...

Bikng Promenade along Ocean Drive and the beach at Lummus Park

As the day progresses, so does the noise level, the traffic and the raucous atmosphere...

The neons lit up and Ocean Drive transforms... lamborghinis cruising up and down... oversized margaritas... hot bodies... music of all kinds, coming at you from all directions... loud, brash and uniquely Miami...

Ocean Drive starts in the southern end of the island at South Pointe , just south of 1st Street and then follows north along the Atlantic Ocean for a short 15-block stretch, not long but it certainly packs a punch.

A Stroll Through Ocean Drive

This is one busy stretch, specially at night. As with many touristy places, beware of mediocre food, overpriced drinks and the occasional annoying peddler or heavily intoxicated mortal...

Sidewalk cafes, restaurants and bars line the road and it gets very lively around the mid-point between 5th and 12th streets. Grab a spot and let all the entertainment pass by... For a change of pace head accross the road to Lummus Park, enjoy the sand, the breeze, the funky lifeguard towers...

Some of the most iconic art deco buildings in the district are found in Ocean Drive. Businesses come and go, but the longtimers that can be credited with energizing the Miami Beach comeback are still going strong.

Here are some Ocean Drive highlights as you stroll the strip from the south end to the north:

Where to Stay in Miami Before a Cruise

Need a place to stay in Miami before your cruise? Wondering which spot is best for you?

The city of Miami is without a doubt the cruise capital of the world and a tourist mecca. Each year millions embark cruise ships to sail the Caribbean and Bahamas.

Miami cruise hotels

And it’s not just cruising that draws so many people to the area. White sand beaches, beautiful water, electric nightlife and more draw people to visit Miami year round.

With so many cruise passengers and tourists coming to visit, the city caters heavily to these groups. That means hotels are practically everywhere with hundreds — if not thousands — of options. But if you are sailing from the Port of Miami, all those options can be overwhelming.

What area should you stay? Which hotel is best before your cruise? While different hotels will appeal to different people, we can give you some insight into what the best spots in general are for you to stay before you sail.

Note: This article contains affiliate links to Kayak. We earn a commission for clicks made on their website, at no charge to you.

Staying in Downtown Miami Before Your Cruise

The Port of Miami is located on an island just across a short causeway from downtown Miami. In other words, if you want to stay in the closest location to the cruise ships, then downtown is the spot to be.

In total, it’s just about a mile from the terminals. You could theoretically walk to the ship if you wanted to do so.

Downtown Miami features a number of things to do. You can catch a Miami Heat game at the American Airlines Arena. There is also the Perez Art Museum and the Frost Museum of Science (a great spot for anyone, but especially families with kids). There is also Bayfront Park, sitting right across the water from the ships.

This area of the city is filled with large condominium skyscrapers and a number of hotels. In general the hotels tend to be higher-end, such as the InterContinental Miami and the Hyatt Regency. That said, there are less-pricey options, like the Holiday Inn across the street from Bayfront Park.

If you’re wanting the beach and sun, then staying in this area isn’t ideal. But if you’re wanting cosmopolitan and trendy — as well as convenient to the cruise ship — then it’s hard to beat.

Highly-Rated Hotels in Downtown Miami

  • InterContinental Miami
  • Courtyard by Marriot – Miami Downtown
  • Eurostars Langford

Staying in South Beach Before Your Cruise

South Beach cruise hotel

When you picture Miami, then what comes to mind is likely South Beach. Famous for its party atmosphere and art deco architecture, the spot is like nowhere else in America.

South Beach is on the southern end of Miami Beach and sits about five miles from the port. It’s about a 10-15 minute car ride to the ships.

You’ll find lots of smaller independent hotels, most in the classic art deco style. South Beach also has lots of restaurants — including many offering seating looking out on famous Ocean Drive.

There’s plenty of nightlife as well, but if you’re not the type to party, don’t worry. Many times out of the year (outside of big events like Spring Break), the party atmosphere isn’t overwhelming and can be avoided. That said, for those that do want to enjoy themselves, it’s easy to find somewhere to drink, dance, and have a good time.

One spot that can’t be missed is Lummus Park — a large green area between Ocean Drive and the actual beach. Here is a great spot to people watch, especially in the evenings.

Of course, if you want to enjoy the beach, then this is definitely the area to stay. Miami Beach features beautiful sand, water, and people, all enjoying the natural beauty.

Hotels tend to be a little pricey, but with so many options, you should be able to find something in your budget. Be sure to check for resort fees, which can add $20-40 per night to your stay. As well, there are normally parking fees for your car.

Highly-Rated Hotels in South Beach

  • Marriott Stanton South Beach
  • The Local House Hotel

Staying Near the Airport Before Your Cruise

Flying into Miami for your cruise? If so, you might want somewhere that’s convenient to the airport. In fact, most spots near the airport offer free shuttles so you don’t even have to worry about finding a ride from the airport to your room.

Miami International is surrounded by dozens of hotels for you to choose from. While the area doesn’t offer much in the way of things to do, it can meet any budget, from inexpensive places to just lay your head to more luxurious accommodations to start your vacation.

From the airport you are about 20-25 minutes from the cruise port.

If we were to suggest one area near the airport, you might try the hotels in Blue Lagoon. This spot features a peninsula that juts out into a lake and features several hotels. Because of the geography, it means you can stay near the airport while also not having a lot of traffic noise nearby.

While no one would say they got to experience the real Miami by staying near the airport, if you want a convenient stay and you are flying in, then a hotel near here makes a lot of sense.

Highly-Rated Hotels near the Airport

  • Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon
  • Homewood Suites Miami Airport/Blue Lagoon
  • Hyatt Place Miami Airport-East

Staying in Brickell Before Your Cruise

Brickell (rhymes with pickle) sits just south of Miami’s downtown, across the Miami River. That means it’s just minutes away from the cruise terminals.

In many ways, the area is similar to downtown. There are a number of high-end restaurants and hotels. For instance, Brickell Key (a small triangular island just off the coast) features a Mandarin Oriental . Other spots include Conrad Miami, Four Seasons, JW Marriott and more.

If you picture the cosmopolitan, shiny Miami, this is it. Condo skyscrapers and financial towers are everywhere.

While it can certainly make for a luxurious stay before your cruise, just be prepared to open your pocketbook. Hotels in this spot easily run above $200 a night, with some costing $500 or more.

In other words, if you are worried about your budget, then Brickell might not be a fit. One positive is that it’s only about 5-10 minutes from the ships on cruise day.

  • Hyatt Centric Brickell Miami
  • Four Seasons Miami

Other Considerations on Where to Stay

Hotel writing pad and key

Part of where you stay before your cruise isn’t just which area of Miami to sleep or being near the port. Many people look at the amenities offered by hotels. Most notably, this can include shuttles to the cruise port and parking packages.

Hotels With Cruise Port Shuttles As mentioned, Miami is built to cater to cruise passengers as the busiest port in the nation. And with so many hotels, they all compete for cruise business.

One way they do that is offering shuttles from the hotel to the cruise port. This way, you don’t have to worry about how you’re going to get to the ship. Simply wake up, head down, and the shuttle will take you to the terminal.

Some hotels offer a shuttle as a package, while others simply have it as a service for guests. Either way, selecting a hotel with a shuttle can be a nice bonus.

For your options, see our entire page of 25+ Miami hotels with cruise shuttles .

Hotels With Cruise Parking Driving to Miami? If so, then you’ll need a place to park your car. The Port of Miami offers parking right on site, but it can be expensive. Rates can run into the hundreds of dollars for the convenience of leaving your car at the port.

As a service to win the business of cruise passengers, a number of hotels offer parking during your trip. Stay the night before you trip and your parking can be discounted or even free. If you plan on staying in a hotel anyway before you sail, this can save you a tremendous amount of money.

For your options, see our entire page of Miami hotels with cruise parking .

FAQ About Staying in Miami

Which Area Is Best to Stay in Miami for a Cruise? The best area for you might be different for another traveler. For some, affordability is key, so staying near the airport is ideal. Others want to live it up in one of Miami’s hotspots.

Personally, we think South Beach is a nice mix of the two. There are a number of smaller hotels that won’t break the bank, but you are also in one of the most famous spots in the United States, along with a great beach to visit. Best of all, the ride to the cruise port is only about 10 minutes, making it easy to get to the ship.

Do Miami Hotels Charge Resort Fees? Resort fees have become more common, especially in tourist areas. If you stay in Miami, you might have to pay this fee. Most large chain hotels don’t charge the fees. But if you venture into the more popular tourist spots (South Beach in particular), then don’t be surprised by the fee. It normally costs around $20-40 per night and comes with a few perks like a welcome drink.

How Much do Miami Cruise Hotels Cost? Hotels range from less than $100 per night to more than $500 — and everything in between. Many people think of Miami as a flashy, expensive city. And it definitely can be that. If you want to stay in a hotel that costs a fortune, there are plenty of choices.

But you don’t have to spend a lot if you don’t want to. With so many hotels, there are plenty with moderate prices. In general, you can find plenty of nice stays that run between $100-$200 per night.

The Best Cruises Departing From NYC, From Bermuda Getaways to Transatlantic Voyages

T ourists and residents alike can take advantage of the many cruises that depart from New York City, offering easy access to warm weather getaways, family vacations, expeditions, and more. After all, nothing screams adventure like sailing away from the Big Apple with the Statue of Liberty and iconic city skyline in your wake.

Plus, New York is home to the oldest cruise terminal in the United States. Nowadays, there are two hubs, one in Manhattan and another in Brooklyn . An additional cruise terminal, in Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, also serves the area.

The Manhattan cruise terminal is located on the edge of Midtown, making it easy to spend port days or pre-cruise time exploring Times Square, Central Park, or the Theater District. The Empire State Building and iconic department stores including Macy’s Herald Square are also within walking distance of the Manhattan cruise port.

The Brooklyn cruise port is a 15-minute drive from Brooklyn Bridge Park , which offers some of the best views of downtown Manhattan. If you're looking to stretch your legs, the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan offers just over a mile of picturesque city viewpoints. While Bayonne, New Jersey may not be a huge tourist destination, sailing from Cape Liberty does provide a postcard-perfect look at the Manhattan skyline and its famous neighbor, the Statue of Liberty.

Trade the soaring skyscrapers of New York City for coastal Canada, remote Greenland, and endless Icelandic summer days. This Viking itinerary makes two stops in Canada and two stops in Greenland before circumnavigating Iceland, beginning with the remote Westfjords and ending in Reykjavik. Sail the same seas as legendary Norse explorer Leif Erikkson (on a far more luxurious Viking ship) while learning about the American Revolution and Canadian exploration from the cruise line’s resident historian. Lounge by the pool, visit the spa, or look out for whales and puffins. Viking has several nearly identical ocean ships sailing this itinerary from New York—each can accommodate a maximum of 930 passengers, allowing them to dock in ports larger ships cannot access.

It’s impossible to get bored on the MSC Meraviglia . MSC’s Meraviglia sails from New York to Bermuda, Canada, New England, the Bahamas, and Florida and can accommodate up to 5,642 passengers across 2,214 staterooms. This ship has a special area set aside for solo travelers with 73 studio suites and a private common area for mingling. Each of the Norwegian Prima’s 95-square-foot studio suites comes with a full-size bed, en suite bathroom, and a vanity table. And while space inside these studios are tight, you’ll likely be so busy go-karting, lounging by the pool, taking in shows, and relaxing in hot tubs, it’s unlikely you’ll find yourself spending much time in the room beyond catching some shut eye. The Norwegian Prima sails to Bermuda and the Caribbean from New York and offers a transatlantic repositioning itinerary.Best transatlantic cruise from New York
