What are the famous Benguet tourist spots you should visit including its hidden places to see? Find out in this comprehensive guide.

Benguet is home to some of the most scenic and fascinating sights in the country. Many of these lie in off-beaten locations and, thus, are ideal getaways for those who prefer less touristy and pristine destinations.

Cascading waterfalls, towering mountains, mossy forests, ancient trails, scenic highways, mystical caves, and colorful gardens are among the must-visit attractions in Benguet.

Benguet is also known for being the salad bowl of the Philippines and as a major supplier of sweet strawberries.

Without further ado, here are the must-see places in Benguet.

1. Mt. Pulag

Mt. Pulag in Kabayan.

Rising to 2, 922 MASL, Mt. Pulag is the highest mountain in Luzon and the third highest in the Philippines.

Vast groves of dwarf bamboo grasses cover its rolling summit. These shelter endangered species such as cloud rats while their mossy forests host deer, wild pigs, doves, and many other threatened species.

The peak of Mt. Pulag offers one of the best views of sunsets and sunrises. A stunning sea of cloud formations frequently appears as far as the eyes could see.

Unfortunately, commercial gardens are slowly creeping, threatening the lush forests of Mt. Pulag. Hopefully, concerned government agencies, private sectors, and community members would collaborate to come up with a master plan to ensure the sustainable management of the said mountain.

Mt. Pulag is one of the most visited tourist spots in Benguet.

3. La Trinidad Strawberry Farm

Location : Baguio-La Trinidad-Bontoc Road, La Trinidad, Benguet . Save on Google Maps .

Just three kilometers away from Baguio City, is La Trinidad, and here is where you can visit vast strawberry fields and go strawberry picking. The rates vary, and the price for the strawberries is actually more expensive than those you can buy in the city’s local markets. That’s only because strawberries are very delicate and a lot of them are easily ruined by inexperienced strawberry pickers. For me, the price is worth it, since you aren’t just paying for the strawberries but for the enjoyable experience as well. And there’s no minimum amount to pay, they’ll just weigh what you have picked.

You can buy homemade strawberry jams, and at lower prices compared to commercial ones. They also sell freshly-picked strawberries, ube jams, and other homemade delicacies and souvenir items.

14. The Valley of Colors

Located just along the main highway in La Trinidad is the Valley of Colors. It’s a great detour that will give you Instagram-worthy shots when going to the strawberry fields. It is located in Barangay Balili and covers three sitios – Stone Hill, Botiwtiw, and Sadjap, thus it’s locally known as the StoBoSa Hillside Homes Artwork.

The Valley of Colors looks like a giant kaleidoscopic, vibrant mural. All the houses along the hills are painted in bright and vivid colors, and in different patterns. This giant artwork was inspired by the Favela Painting Community Art in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and just like the inspiration, the Valley of Colors was also completed through the help of the local community.

Places to visit in Benguet

15. Atok Flower Farms

Location : Halsema Highway, Atok, Benguet . Save on Google Maps .

The Northern Blossoms Flower Farm in Atok, Benguet is a two-hectare plantation that is open to tourists and is rapidly gaining attention thanks to social media. It is owned by florist Melany Ganayan, who together with her husband owns a popular flower shop in Manila that supplies exotic and rare flower varieties, and has even decorated the Malacanang Palace along with celebrity weddings.

The farm is almost two hours away from Baguio City, but I promise you, visiting it at sunrise is worth the effort. Thanks to the cool climate, the farm is home to both native blooms and exotic ones that you can only typically see abroad. You can feast your eyes on endless rows of snapdragons, matthiolas, hydrangeas, rose cabbages and so much more. Plus you can also enjoy a beautiful view of Mt. Pulag and other neighboring mountains.

You can get to the Northern Blossoms Flower Farm either by private car, passenger van, or by bus. There are a lot of buses that pass by it, and trips usually start off at 5:30 A.M. There are buses, and vans that can take you back to Baguio at Marosan’s restaurant, which is just a short walk away. There’s no time limit on how long you want to enjoy the fresh flowers but if you want to avoid the traffic and long lines for public transport, then you should go by 3:00 P.M.

Alternatively, you can also spend the night in Atok and book a sunrise tour that also includes other tourist attractions such as the Sakura Park and Halsema highway nearby. There are different tours offered by Brgy. Paoay tourism office that even includes a car for transport, and there are plenty of hotels, homestays, and transient houses to stay in.

16. Buguias Vegetable Terraces

Location : Halsema Highway, Buguias, Benguet . Save on Google Maps .

Further up north from Atok, Benguet, and connected by the scenic Halsema Highway is the town of Buguias. Buguias is a great stopover especially if you are heading over to Sagada or Bontoc, or if you’re heading to Baguio from up north. The town produces around 70% of the vegetables distributed in Luzon that even reaches farther south in the country. It is considered as the “Vegetable Capital of the Philippines” and along the highway, you can feast your eyes on endless rows and layers of vegetable terraces. There are view decks where you can enjoy taking photos of them. You can even explore some farms, pick your own vegetables, and get them at very low prices.

18. Mount Kabuyao View Deck

benguet tourist spot 2022

Overlooking Baguio from Mount Kabuyao viewdeck

Location : Santo Tomas Road, Tuba, Benguet . Save on Google Maps .

If you want a stunning eagle-eye view of Baguio, then you need to visit the view deck in Mount Cabuyao in Tuba, Benguet. Going there is easy since you can get to the summit even by car. If you want a little adventure, then you can trek through the summit because it’s only about five kilometers from Green Valley – the jumpoff point in the city. Green Valley is easily accessible via a short jeepney ride from Baguio.

It usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to get to Mount Cabuyao’s summit by foot – depending on how many times you stop for a breather or to take stunning photos. The hike is relatively easy because most of the trail is through cemented roads, and cellphones have a good signal. They even offer snacks and cold beverages at the summit. I would still recommend hiking in the summer since some parts of the roads can get muddy during the rainy season, but more importantly to get better views and photos because of the clearer skies.

Once at the summit, you will be greeted by two giant discs, which the locals call “Radar” and locals often joke that they are electric fans that keep Baguio cool. From here, you’ll be able to enjoy a panoramic view of Baguio, vegetable terraces, and the regal mountains of the cordilleras. Along the trail and on a clear day, you can even view four out of five of the highest peaks in the Philippines forming a line – the mountains of Singakalsa, Tabayoc, Panotoan, and Pulag.

If you’re still up for it, you can trek up to Mt. Sto. Tomas, the highest point in the area. It’s only about four kilometers away and takes about another 1-2 hours to get there. The last 20 minutes of the hike is a little steep, though. At the top is a cross marked with “Mt. Sto. Tomas is the highest ‘commutable’ peak in the Philippines.” The view is of the same surrounding areas at Mt. Cabuyao, but from a higher viewpoint and locals suggest that the best time to appreciate the stunning view is in the morning to avoid the obscuring clouds in the afternoon.

TOP BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS & ACTIVITIES

Baguio is bursting with interesting places to visit and things to do. But here are some of our top recommendations!

Mirador Hill and Eco Park

JAPAN IN BAGUIO! Easily a highlight of our most recent trip, the Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park is a rising tourist destination, boasting a combination of local and Japan-inspired attractions.

This 5-hectare property is scribbled with hiking trails leading to different sites including the Rock Gardens, the Pandemic Healing Memorial, the La Storta Garden, Ifugao Houses, and the Circular Seismic Chamber (closed when we visited). But perhaps the most popular is the iconic Mirador Peace Memorial, a red-painted torii gate atop the hill, overlooking the city and the surrounding hills. It is a favorite photo spot for many visitors.

Mirador Peace Memorial

Another crowd-drawer is the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, perhaps named after the bamboo forest of Kyoto’s temple district. While the bamboo trunks are not as big or tall as those in the Japan site, it still makes for a refreshing resting and photo spot.

Mirador Hill Bamboo Groves

Aside from the park, Mirador Hill also harbors the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Kapilya ni Hesus at Maria, Café Iñigo, and the Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House.

Address: Mirador Hill, Barangay Dominican Hill-Mirador, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P100 (Regular); FREE (Below 12 y/o)

Oh, by the way, if you’re interested in only the newest attractions, we have a video about that here:

Igorot Stone Kingdom

Launched to the public in the second half of 2021, the Igorot Stone Kingdom is Baguio’s newest attraction. So new that construction of some parts were still ongoing when we visited. The park showcases both modern and traditional Igorot culture as well as the values of the Cordillera Region.

Igorot Stone Kingdom

The whole area covers about 6,000 square meters and is dominated by two massive structures facing each other — a modern-day castle and an old-school stone wall. Made of hollow blocks and cement, the modern-day castle is etched with walkways, punctuated by statues, photo spots and viewing decks. It also crowned by a food court, serving mostly Pinoy snacks.

The stone wall, on the other hand, resembles the rice terraces that feature the rock-laying skills of the Igorot people. As you climb, you get to see the Fertility Stone Tower, the Temple of Kabunyan, Bangan’s Dome, the Tower of Gatan, the Face in the Rock, and many more.

Inside Igorot Stone Kingdom

Other attractions are the Igorot Gold Mine, the Wishing Well, and the Igorot Golden Bridge. Soon, the park will also have life-size statues of prominent Igorots.

Address: #86 Long-long Benguet Road, Pinsao Proper, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P100 (Regular); P80 (Senior & PWD with ID); P80 (Kids 4-12 y/o); FREE (3 y/o and below)

Tam-awan Village

Just a stone’s throw from Igorot Stone Kingdom lies Tam-Awan Village , nicknamed Garden in the Sky . It was commissioned by the Chanum Foundation in 1998 in order to create a model village showcasing reconstructed traditional Cordillera houses and make them accessible to more people.

Tam-awan Village

The village highlights the indigenous craftsmanship and aesthetics of the region and its local artists. From three huts transported from Ifugao, the village now has nine traditional houses — seven Ifugao huts and two Kalinga houses. These structures were reconstructed using mostly the original materials.

If you want to immerse yourself more, you can also book your lodging here.

Address: 366-C Pinsao Proper, Long Long Benguet Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P60 (Adults); P40 (Students & Seniors); P30 (4-10 y/o); FREE (3 y/o and below)

benguet tourist spot 2022

But this cemetery is not the usual site for burying human bodies but rather a symbolic place for burying negativities. The tombstones were inscribed with witty and punny “eulogies” which may sometimes require a dash of sarcasm to understand.

One tombstone reads “Itz Not Possible”, conceived November 11, 1905 but “still not born”. Another one has “Know Dam Way” engraved on it, then below it, “Conceived New Years Eve 1910. Didn’t work out.”

If you are looking for something unique, funny, and inspiring at the same time, head over here and scare the bad vibes away.

Burnham Park

Located at the heart of Baguio, Burnham Park is the most famous attraction in the city. It is dominated by Burnham Lake (or Lagoon) and dotted with other interesting spots like the Rose Garden , a recreational park with a skating rink, the Orchidarium, the Children’s Park, and the Melvin Jones Grandstand.

The park is bustling with lots of fun activities such as renting paddle boats (swan boats), biking, and go-karting. Baguio Museum

benguet tourist spot 2022

Just a short walk from Burnham Park stands the Baguio Museum . It is not hard to find as it’s surrounded by prominent landmarks like the University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City National High School, and SM Baguio.

The museum’s collections tell the history of the city and showcase the culture of the Cordillera region. The four floors host all the collections classified into categories — Baguio Gallery, Cordillera Gallery, and the Alternative Gallery.

Baguio Cathedral

benguet tourist spot 2022

Baguio Cathedral , officially named Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral , is a hilltop cathedral overlooking Session Road and the busy downtown streets. It was launched in 1936 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

It follows a neo-Romanesque architectural style that features twin belfries/spires, a rose window (facade), and stained glass windows. It is one of the prominent landmarks in Baguio and is located beside Saint Louis University.

To access it from Session Road, visitors have to climb several steps, leading to the courtyard and the cathedral. Alternatively, you can go to Porta Vaga Shopping Mall and use the escalator leading to the cathedral’s courtyard.

Address: Our Lady Of Atonement Cathedral, Session Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: Tourists are welcome anytime but please be considerate when mass is ongoing. You can check the mass schedule on the official Facebook page. Entrance Fee: FREE

Ukay-Ukay Stores

Baguio won’t be Baguio without “SM” — Segunda Mano stores. These second-hand stores, locally called wagwagan but popularly called by tourists ukay-ukay , littered the busy streets and corners of downtown Baguio. Tourists will find themselves easily getting lost in the mountains of options for pre-loved items. The pieces vary — clothing, bags, shoes, belts, scarves, and others.

Honestly, the wide range of choices can get really overwhelming. But if you have the patience and the stamina (haha), you might dig up some vintage and rare items. The popular ukay-ukay areas are Skyworld (Session Road), Hilltop (at the back of Baguio City Market), and Bayanihan (near Burnham Park). You’ll also find some, well, good finds, at the night market!

Happy bargain hunting!

Session Road Nightlife

Session Road

One of the city’s major arteries, Session Road is the most famous street in Baguio. It is abuzz with locals and tourists going about their business during the day, but it becomes livelier at night as bars and hangout places pulsate with good music and great conversations.

If you want to have dinner first before losing yourself in music and booze with friends and maybe new acquaintances, Session Road hosts numerous international restaurants and fast-food restaurants.

But if you want to try the local offerings, it is also home to several homegrown restaurants including Sizzling Plate, Ocha Asian Restaurant, Vizco’s Restaurant, Volante, Oh My Gulay, and Drop Out, among others.

Baguio Public Market

Baguio Public Market

For pasalubong, make your way to the Baguio Public Market, which houses countless stalls selling products that are synonymous with the region — fresh strawberries and Sagada oranges, strawberry and ube jams, peanut brittle, fresh vegetables, and souvenirs!

And of course, grab a walis tambo!

benguet tourist spot 2022

There’s something about Baguio’s walis tambo that makes it consistently land in the top items of pasalubong from the city. For some reason, my mom and aunts never fail to buy one when we’re in Baguio or request it from loved ones visiting Baguio. I asked my mom about it and she casually told me that the walis tambo from Baguio is sturdier and thicker.

LEONARD WOOD & MINES VIEW Tourist Spots

In this section are attractions situated northwest of the city center, usually reached by taking the Leonard Wood Road.

Baguio Botanical Garden

benguet tourist spot 2022

One of the many green spaces in the city, the Baguio Botanical Garden (renamed Centennial Park) is located between Wright Park and Teacher’s Camp, along Leonard Wood Road.

This is another popular attraction in the city where visitors can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the verdant surroundings. The extensive garden park is just a short drive from Baguio’s Central Business District. It has many walking paths where you can see many photo-worthy spots. It also harbors the Baguio Arts Guild and the Igorot Village.

Address: 37, Leonard Wood Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE

Wright Park

benguet tourist spot 2022

Another vast greenery is the Wright Park , named after the former Governor-General Luke Edward Wright.

This is a favorite leisure spot for both locals and tourists. It’s a lush park that offers walking and jogging trails, biking paths, and rest spots. It features a long pond or pool that almost covers the whole stretch of concrete path linking the Wright Park Kiosk and The Mansion facade. It also has a pine tree-covered forest hill adjacent to the horse stable.

If you want to go horseback riding in Baguio, Wright Park provides quite a number of horses to choose from, plus it’s not too far from the city center.

Address: Wright Park, Pacdal Circle, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE Horseback Riding Rate: P200 for 7 rounds

The Mansion

Wright Park’s long concrete path with a pool leads to the gate of the Mansion House , popularly referred to as The Mansion. It was commissioned in 1908 to serve as the official residence of the US Governor-General in the Philippines. It underwent reconstruction in 1947 after sustaining huge damage during the Second World War.

benguet tourist spot 2022

Presently, it functions as the official summer palace of the President of the Philippines. It is also the site for other important state functions and international gatherings.

Address: The Mansion, Baguio-Bua-Itogon Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 24/7 (Mansion Gate). Most of the time, the Mansion is closed to the public, so visitors can only get a glimpse of the actual mansion from the entrance gate.

Mines View Park

Usually crowded with hordes of tourists, Mines View Park is definitely one of the most popular tourist spots. My local friends say that this is more like a tourist trap, but we’re tourists so go check it out still and see why it’s popular in the first place.

It features an observation deck that presents a panoramic view of the former gold and copper mines of Itogon town below and the mountains beyond. This is also one of the best spots for sunrise watching.

Mines View Park

If you want to avoid the crowd, go there early in the morning. The place is peppered with numerous shops, stalls, and peddlers selling souvenir items, clothes, trinkets, food, and even plants! The entrance to the park is located along Gibraltar Road.

Plant sellers also abound in the area. Baguio’s chilly atmosphere makes it favorable for growing plants — flowering, herbs, and ornamental. The wide range of choices will make veteran and newbie plantitos and plantitas go gaga over these bloom and foliage babies.

Address: Mines View Park, Gibraltar Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM. The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P10 (Adult); P5 (Children)

Good Shepherd Products

Not far from Mines View Park is a place where you can get the famous ube jam . It’s a quintessential pasalubong stop in Baguio where tourists willingly wait in line for the signature ube jam and other favorite products.

Good Shepherd Baguio

What makes buying from Good Shepherd special and fulfilling is its advocacy. Good Shepherd has built a good reputation for producing quality products for a cause. So where does your money go? Check the packaging (usually printed on the lid): “You help send us to college each time you buy our products”. The proceeds will be used to help send the Cordillera youth to college.

Other products are strawberry jam (seasonal), blueberry jam (seasonal), peanut cluster, cashew brittle, lengua , snowballs, angel cookies, choco flakes, alfajor cookies, banana chips, sampaloc candy, and more. There’s a strict ordering system — write down your orders first, queue, and hand over your order and payment to the attendant.

Also, don’t forget to try some of their Take Out Products which are basically snack/merienda items. Note that the lines can get too long during the peak season and there is an order limit per person. When they products are sold out, they close the site (like during our last visit).

Address: Good Shepherd Convent, 15 Gibraltar Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE

CULINARY ATTRACTIONS

Sample local dishes.

Baguio takes pride in its robust local culinary scene. Making the most of the abundance of ingredients, the locals came up with lots of innovative ways to create dishes and food products that embody the Cordillera region and neighboring Ilocos region, whose influence also seeps into the city.

Many of these dishes are available at various restaurants and eateries around Baguio. Some of the most well-known are pinikpikan (chicken soup), pinuneg (blood sausage) and kinuday (smoked meat), as well as dinakdakan (boiled, sliced and grilled pig’s head parts) and bagnet (deep-fried pork).

Pinuneg and kinuday

But if you want to sample a lot of delicacies at once, head over to The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant , situated just next to Tam-awan Village. They serve mostly Cordilleran and Ilocano fare, prepared traditionally.

If you prefer a more modern twist, Cafe by the Ruins is an established name in the city’s food scene.

Local restaurants also add their Baguio twist to other Pinoy favorites. Mines View Park Hotel’s ZENZ Bar and Restaurant serves strawberry sinigang and strawberry adobo.

Strawberry Sinigang by ZENZ Bar

You can also go food tripping at the night market, Burnham Park, Ili-Likha, Good Shepherds, and Session Road, just to name a few.

Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe

Oh My Gulay

You might be thinking, Oh My Gulay is a local restaurant. Why does it have its own entry? Well, if you’ve been to this art cafe, you know it deserves its own spot!

Nestled on the top floor of an old building along Session Road, I was not expecting anything for that day’s lunch stop. And to be honest, I was not too excited at first because I’m not really into vegetables. But when I took the last flight of stairs, boy was I blown away by the quirky interiors and decorations! It was like being transported into a secret, mystical world. And the indoor garden setting has its own small pond, too!

Inside Oh My Gulay!

The restaurant has two-level dining areas. The upper level has two separate sections connected by a short wooden hanging bridge. The lower-level dining area has indoor seatings as well as veranda seatings with a view of the city. A collaboration of Oh My Gulay and Vocas, the place also features exhibit areas for local artists. As the name of the restaurant suggests, it serves affordable vegetarian and vegan meals.

Oh My Gulay's Vegetarian Bistek and Sliders

Address: 108 Session Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Monday, Wednesday – Thursday); 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM (Friday – Sunday); CLOSED (Tuesdays). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting.

Ili-Likha Artist’s Wateringhole

Lying along Assumption Road is the very peculiar Ili-Likha Artist’s Wateringhole , also known as Ili-Likha Artist Village . It was built by artist and filmmaker Eric de Guia (Kidlat Tahimik), who transformed a vacant lot into this whimsical treehouse-themed food park in 2014.

benguet tourist spot 2022

The place highlights the importance of preserving nature and culture through arts and food. It is an evolving work of art with several interesting corners and iconic features like the mosaic-covered staircase.

The homegrown restaurants serve healthy, preservative-free, and organic food. Some of the restaurants are Balbacua, Leandro’s Bistro, Yomichee, Ibana, Little Milkyway Vegan Café, Oh My Gulay, Café Cueva, Kape Kullaaw, Waynu, Scout Burrows, and Natengan Ed Ili.

benguet tourist spot 2022

It also houses arts and crafts shops and hosts different events and workshops. The whole place is photo-worthy and visitors will enjoy the relaxing and creative atmosphere.

Address: Ili-Likha Artists Village, 32 Assumption Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE

Baguio’s International Restaurants

Aside from the homegrown restaurants, Baguio also offers diverse international cuisines — Korean, Japanese, American, Chinese, and Vietnamese, to name a few. We will write a separate article about it with more details soon so watch out for that.

Baguio Craft Brewery and Craft 1945

Enough about food! How about some drinks? And by drinks, we mean beer!

If you are the type who likes hunting for local craft beers or you just want to have a chill dinner-and-beer type of night in Baguio, there are good watering holes in the city where you can quench your thirst for beer.

Baguio Craft Brewery is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. It offers a wide selection of craft beers, including its signature craft beers named after Ifugao’s mythic characters.

Craft 1945 , partly managed by Baguio Craft Brewery, is a Spanish-themed restaurant serving premium craft beers, tapas and other Spanish dishes.

benguet tourist spot 2022

Here are their addresses and operating hours.

Baguio Craft Brewery 4 Ben Palispis Highway, KM 4, Baguio City 5:00 PM – 12:00 AM (Monday – Friday) 1:00 PM – 12:00 AM (Saturdays & Sundays)

Craft 1945 9 Outlook Drive S, Baguio City 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Daily)

Reminder: The opening hours might change, so please check the official websites or Facebook pages before visiting.

Benguet Coffee

Coffee is everywhere in Baguio, and it’s not hard to score Benguet coffee when in town. The city’s high altitude and cooler temperature make it one of the best places in the Philippines to grow coffee.

Kape Umali

You can actually buy some at the public market or at cafés like Kape Umali , which is also the biggest coffee supplier in the province and other parts of northern Luzon. The café serves traditional brews as well as specialty brews like liquor coffee and gourmet coffee. Enjoy the music and appreciate artworks at the cafe’s gallery too! The three branches are located in Shangri-la Village, Mine’s View, and Baguio Market.

Ube and Strawberry Taho

Don’t you dare get out of Baguio without trying strawberry taho . They are everywhere, especially in the vicinity of popular tourist spots including Burnham Park, Session Road, and Mines View Park to name a few.

benguet tourist spot 2022

Taho is a distinct Filipino snack made of silken soybean curd (tofu), brown sugar syrup, and tapioca (sago pearls). It’s traditionally served or peddled in the morning but nowadays, it can be consumed any time of the day, depending on availability.

Since strawberries are plenty in Baguio, the locals made their own version by replacing brown sugar syrup with strawberry syrup. And boy did they own it!

If you feel like you’ve had enough of strawberries, ube taho is also available.

Strawberry Ice Cream

benguet tourist spot 2022

Still on the topic of putting a twist on regular snacks, the locals are really making the most of their strawberries by coming up with their own strawberry-flavored ice cream. Fine, strawberry ice cream is not new to the market BUT the ones in Baguio taste different. And we mean in a good way.

For us, the best that we’ve tried are those sold at La Trinidad Strawberry Farm. But if you are pressed for time, you can easily find it in downtown Baguio.

Atok Benguet Travel Guide for First-Timers (A Weekend Itinerary)

ALT="things to do in atok benguet"

Why not visit Atok, Benguet? It is just two hours away from Baguio City !!! Atok is a small town near Baguio City; only 2 hours away from it. If you adore mountain range views, cold climate, and off-the-beaten-path destination ; you will definitely fall in love with this town!!!

Table of Contents

Top Places to Visit

In this guide, I listed down some of the places to visit around Atok, Benguet. Not to mention the fact that you can visit all these places in one day!

For Filipinos, when they hear the word “Grotto”, they can instantly view it as a sacred place with its religious displays such as the sculpture of Mama Mary or Jesus Christ and a chapel as well.

Well, it is definitely true. In the town of Atok, once you visit the Grotto, you’ll surely see the sculpture of Jesus Christ and a chapel. Surprisingly, the chapel is inside a small cave. According to our tour guide, it is cold inside the chapel since it is inside a cave. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get inside since it was closed during our visit.

But before you reach the Grotto, you will pass by the vegetable fields owned by the locals. Here, you can see some rose cabbage and other vegetable plants and flowers along the way.

What’s more interesting about the Grotto? There is a huge rock behind the chapel that you can hike up. It isn’t that difficult to climb up the rock yet you still need to be cautious. Once you reach the top, you will surely fall in love with the views of the mountain ranges. How ravishing! It feels like you are in a postcard with nature because it looks surreal!

Sakura Farm

There’s nothing more interesting here since the cherry blossom trees aren’t fully grown yet. But you can see the farm first when visiting the Grotto.

Philippine Highest System Highest Point

Considered the second highest point in the Philippines, with an elevation of 7,400 feet above sea level.

You will see a waiting shed in the area where you can witness the breathtaking view of the mountains. You can also view here the Mt. Pulag. In addition to that, you can take pictures here with their traditional clothes on for only Php 20 (as of 2018) !!!

This is known as the 3rd highest mountain and 9th highest mountain in the Philippines; Mt. Timbak surely it offers an undeniably breathtaking view. The warmth of the sun’s rays as it rises, the cool breeze that touches the warmth of your skin, and the spiritual connection that you get from nature. It makes you appreciate more how amazing God’s creation is.

Northern Blossom Farm

Regarding Northern Blossom Farm , it is private so it isn’t included in Atok Tour. You can go to the farm directly and just pay the entrance fee. I think the entrance fee varies depending on the season. When we asked the locals, the flowers weren’t fully bloomed yet. The entrance at that time was Php 150! However, its entrance fee rises during peak season (usually from February to April).

Registration Fee at barangay

Take note, the entrance fee is much higher during the bloom season which is around March-April. The registration fee is Php 20.

Tour Packages

The municipality of Atok strongly requires tourists to get a package tour when traveling around the town. They offer two types of packages that are mostly likely ideal for group tours.

  • PHP 1500 (w/o Mt. Timbak)
  • PHP 1600 (with Mt. Timbak)

Entrance Fee: PHP 150-PHP 200 (It depends on the season. It usually gets more expensive around February to March.)

If you will sleep overnight at Mt. Timbak (especially if you are planning to catch the sunrise on the mountain, you can go for an overnight at Ate Josie’s house.)

  • LIVING ROOM STAY: It costs PHP 200 per head. YES! You can sleep in their living room. They can provide you with a blanket and a pillow as well. In addition, if you don’t have socks, you can also buy from them.
  • BEDROOM STAY : PHP 350 per head. If you want to feel more comfortable, you may choose to stay in the bedroom.
  • CAMPING TENT : PHP 100 per head. However, if you are really on a budget, you can set up a tent in front of Ate Josie’s house. But you have to take note that it is really cold there especially at night and early in the morning. So make sure you’ve got everything to make yourself warm.

Also, Ate Josie can help you cook for breakfast. Just add extra payment for the food and the service. She’s really nice and friendly!

Ate Josie ‘s contact number is 09207478558 (She also will guide you to reach the peak of Mt. Timbak.)

Tour Guides

  • Kuya Charles

They are really nice and accommodating! If you also want them to be your guides, just look for them at the barangay.

For additional information, it is highly suggested to get a tour guide if you really want to travel to Atok, Benguet. It is due to the fact that each of the tourist spots is quite far from each other. I personally do not recommend you to do DIY (Do-It-Yourself). Why? According to our tour guide, when the other tourists do that, unfortunately, they couldn’t follow the rules properly. I hope that this travel guide to Atok, Benguet helps a lot as your future reference.

LEAVE NO TRACE. Please do not throw trash everywhere.

Northern Blossom Flower Farm + Atok, Benguet Tourist Spots

Northern Blossom Flower Farm (2)

Northern Blossom Flower Farm is finally open! Check out this guide to learn more about it and where else you can go when you visit Atok, Benguet!

Just 47kms north of the City of Baguio is the municipality of Atok. This small town in Benguet is known for its flower farms and breathtaking scenery. Established in 1900, Atok, Benguet now houses over 19,000 residents; and despite its small population, it’s a destination for Benguet folk and tourists alike.

For such a small town, you wouldn’t think that Atok, Benguet has different tourist attractions that will keep you occupied for an entire day! They’ve got flower farms, hiking spots, and historical landmarks that you wouldn’t want to miss! Atok is also known for being one of the coldest places in the Philippines, the temperature having dropped to 0 ° C for several days in 2017.

Northern Blossoms Flower Farm

If you’ve heard about the small town of Atok before, it would probably be because of the Northern Blossoms, a flower farm that allows guests to wander around and appreciate the bright and colorful flowers planted in the area. The farm opens at 6 AM and closes at 4:30 PM, giving tourists enough time to tour the vicinity. Apart from wandering around here’s other things you can do in Northern Blossoms Flower Farm:

Take pretty photos.

Northern Blossom Flower Farm

Pair colorful flowers with the golden sunset, and you’ll have yourself a revamped Instagram feed! Stand in between the field of flowers, and you’ll have taken the perfect display photo for your social media accounts. Not only is this flower farm Instagram-friendly, it also radiates a romantic vibe, making it a spot for solo (or couple) photoshoots. In fact, a lot of marriage proposals happened in this place! (Boys, take note!)

Catch the sunrise

Northern Blossoms Flower Farm

Waking up before 5 AM in the coldest place in the Philippines is not exactly a great feeling. We promise that if you do catch the sunrise in the farm, which also overlooks other mountains in Cordillera, you won’t regret getting out of bed! The farm usually opens at 6 AM, just a few minutes before the sun makes its ingress for the day.

Enjoy a hot cup of joe

Haight's Place

Nothing beats the cold, chilly weather better than a cup… or two of coffee. At the end of every tour in the farm, every guest is entitled to snacks and unlimited coffee!

Stay the night

Unsplash

If you haven’t had enough time to tour around town, you’ll always have a place in the Northern Blossoms Flower Farm to turn in for the night! They have several transient rooms for rent (which is great, as accommodations in Atok, Benguet are scarce), just make sure to place a reservation beforehand if you plan on staying overnight.

Not all plants are at bloom all year long, so make sure to visit the farm when they’re in season. According to the locals, the best time to visit is around February to April. Do take note as well that they are closed every Monday.

Northern Blossoms Flower Farm Entrance Fees

  • Regular Adult: Php 250.00
  • Senior/PWD: Php 200.00
  • Kids, ages 6-12: Php 50.00
  • Kids below 5: FREE

Other Atok, Benguet Tourist Spots

When you’ve taken the perfect photo and have sipped enough coffee to get your energy spiking, you can visit other places in Atok, Benguet!

  • Halsema Highway

Halsema Highway Unsplash

This road is considered as the highest point in the Philippine highway system, standing at 7400 ft. above sea level. Once you drive past the Halsema Highway signage, you’ll soon pass by a view deck where you can witness either a sea of clouds, or a sea of mountain ranges in the Cordillera. Whichever you get, it’s sure to leave you in awe.

Natumpukan Half Tunnel

If you’re visiting town or just driving past Atok, there is a very large chance that you’ll pass by the Natumpukan Half Tunnel. This man-made historical landmark was built in the 1950s, after erosion blocked the road. With no other alternative routes, residents carved out almost 50m from a giant rock. This giant rock is still what makes up the half tunnel. We assure you that it’s safe, though!

Haight’s Place

Haight's Place

There’s no need to go to Japan to experience cherry blossoms in bloom! Despite not being native to the Philippines, Sakura trees were able to grow in Atok, Benguet due to its relatively low temperature. There are other flower fields in the farm, but if you really want to see the Sakura trees in bloom, the best time to visit would be in April.

Pexel image Mountain

If you’re in the mood to go on a hike, Mt. Timbak is the place to go. The trail is beginner-friendly and the summit is reachable after a 2-3 hour hike. Just like the flower farms in this town, the best time to go on a hike would be from February to April.

You can always make your own itinerary for when you visit Atok, but if you’re a little clueless how to get from one place to another, the municipality offers 2 circuit tours around town. These tours are good for 5 people, and are inclusive of a tour guide and a car with driver.

Circuit Tour Package 1 (priced at Php 1,200.00) includes a visit to:

  • Sakura Park
  • Lourdes Grotto

Circuit Tour Package 2 (priced at Php 1,500.00) includes a visit to:

  • Mt. Timbak (15-30 minute hike)
  • Sakura Park
  • Halsema Highway
  • Lourdes Grotto

How to get to Atok, Benguet (from Baguio City)

For private vehicles….

  • Type in Saint Paul’s Academy in Sayangan, Atok. This school is near the Northern Blossoms Flower Farm. It’s also important to input this exact location, as doing otherwise will take you to the other side of Atok.

For those who will take public transportation…

  • Head to Dangwa terminal in Baguio City (located at Magsaysay Ave.)
  • Ask around if their bus will pass by Halsema Highway (these buses are usually headed to Sagada or Bontoc)
  • Ask the driver if they can drop you off at Atok’s Municipal Hall

BUS FARE: Php 85.00 to Php 120.00

TRAVEL TIME: 2-3 hours from Baguio City

Other Flower Farms in Benguet

Did you know that Benguet is not only known for strawberries? It’s also home to the Rose Capital of the Philippines–La Trinidad, Benguet. In fact, the province is one of the largest suppliers of flowers in the country. Yes! The Dangwa Flower Market in Manila is coined after In Baguio, which transports cut flowers from Northern Luzon to Manila.

If you’ve got extra time on your hands, you can also visit other flower farms located in Benguet:

Bahong Sunflower Farm.

Bahong Sunflower Farm

Brgy. Bahong may be the rose capital of the Philippines, but its flora does not end with the red, thorny flowers. This flower farm has over 8,000 sunflower stalks and other flowering plants. Entrance fee is priced at Php 150.00, inclusive of complimentary coffee and pastries.

20000 Country Roses.

20,000 Country Roses

True to its name, the farm is home to a field of red roses, summing up to 20,000 stalks of flowers. This farm, which opened in 2020, is located in Brgy. Alapang, La Trinidad. They only charge each guest an entrance fee of Php 60.00!

Travel Tips and Tricks

Unsplash

Wear something comfortable

If you think you can finally handle Baguio City’s cold weather, you better think twice before you head to Atok! As the town’s temperature is lower than any place in Benguet, it’s encouraged to add more layers to your clothing.

Clean as you go!

This one goes without saying! Since you’re visiting areas that have a lot to do with nature and the environment, it’s vital that you follow proper trash disposal and other guidelines the tourist spots may impose.

Get ready for sharp curves and turns in the road

If you’re a little queasy when traveling, it would be best if you come prepared with a bottle of water and medications that will help you tame your motion sickness.

Bring cash, as there are little to no ATMs around town

As we’ve mentioned before, Atok is a small town, and you’d be lucky if you find an ATM machine in the vicinity. Before driving up to Atok, take note of the environmental and entrance feed you’d have to pay in your destinations. That way, you’ll have an idea how much cash you’ll have to bring with you.

Check-in with other events in Baguio

It’s not at all coincidental that the best time to visit the flower farms in Benguet is February, just in time for the celebration of Baguio City’s Panagbenga Festival! You can check the city’s Public Information Office for city-wide events like concerts, grand parades, or the famous Session in Bloom.

In summary…

Small towns don’t always have to be modest and unassuming. In fact, the town of Atok in Benguet has a great array of places to visit, including the very famous Northern Blossom Flower Farm. You can also go on a hike or just chill back and enjoy the awe-striking sea of mountains from the side of the road.

Whether you’re a plantita or not, this town is worth taking an extra day of vacation for!

ATOK, BENGUET’s 10 Best Tourist Spots & Things to Do 2022

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

For the longest time, it was rare to hear about side trips from Baguio or La Trinidad. Given the sheer number of Baguio tourist attractions that can easily fill any given traveler’s itinerary, it was difficult to imagine needing to go out in search for more places to visit. Along came Atok .

This rustic town has been a favorite day trip destination among many Baguio locals but barely noticed by tourists. Suddenly, when the buzz surrounding its flower parks resonated on social media, this bucolic town was suddenly catapulted into fame.

Located about 48 kilometers north of Baguio, Atok can be reached after a two-hour drive. Getting here, the road is paved all the way but the drive isn’t always easy. It zigzags consistently and, because of the altitude, visibility is sometimes an issue. But those who brave the winding road and steep cliffs get rewarded with an idyllic, often unforgettable, escape.

If you are planning to visit Atok soon, here are some of the must-see places and must-do activities (in no particular order).

Tayao Gardens Visuals

What we loved about Tayao Gardens is that each feature is made from the visitor’s point of view. From the large coffee mug with spilling coffee at the entrance to the large frames, swings, and the deck overlooking the mountains of Benguet, photos are meant to be taken with the person interacting with the different elements of the garden. Below are just some of the photos we were able to take at this Atok tourist spot.

Succulent Garden

The main feature of the garden is the wide variety of succulents embedded throughout the garden. It is evident at Tayao Gardens that the owner is fond of growing succulents, so much that it became an agricultural tourism spot. Perhaps it’s also why when you visit the garden, you can take home a free succulent.

Highway 24 Cafe and Restaurant

What’s great about the gardens is that after touring around, you can go for a quick bite at their coffee shop which is also located inside. The cafe houses different coffee products from Tayao Farms which you can also purchase in drip and ground coffee beans form as pasalubong to your loved ones. Atok, Benguet is home to Arabica coffee farms so we were also excited to try out their coffee.

We decided to try out the highway special and since it was late in the afternoon, we decided to get some Dokto fries (kamote fries) and cheesy french fries for merienda which went very well with the coffee.

Visit Tayao Gardens

Tayao Gardens is a perfect getaway if you want to go out of Baguio City to destress but do not have enough time to go to the flower farms in the higher parts of Atok Benguet. We highly suggest going in the morning especially if you want to see the garden in its vibrant glory, but if you are after the cold weather Cordilleras is known for, we suggest that you visit in the afternoon, which is also the perfect time to grab a warm cup of coffee.
