Through her eclectic avant-garde pop infused with electronica, Björk (born November 21st, 1965) has become an international icon with her intelligent, forward-thinking music that frequently defies expectation.

Following the demise of her band, the Sugarcubes, in 1992, Björk embarked upon a solo career that would lead her to widespread critical acclaim and chart success. Yet this was not her first solo album. Björk had already released a hit record at the young age of 11, a collection of covers that found great success in her native country. The child prodigy later became lead vocalist for the Sugarcubes, whose art rock found a hit album in the US and UK after the release of "Life's Too Good" in 1988. After their break-up, Björk traveled to London, where she became interested in the burgeoning dance scene, which would inform much of her solo musical direction from there on.

In 1992, "Debut" was released, Björk's first solo venture since she was 11 years old. The album took influence from trip hop and electronica, with the likes of Tricky, Underworld and Nellee Hooper lending their production talents. The resulting album became hugely successful, peaking at number three in the UK charts, featuring a number of hit singles that found chart success globally. Björk became a runaway success, earning countless awards and accolades at the year's end.

Björk's following releases continued to find critical acclaim, most notably in the UK, spawning several remix albums of her work subsequently. In 2000, Björk was also named 'Best Actress' at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Lars Von Trier's "Dancer in the Dark." Alongside her solo efforts, Björk also created several film soundtracks, helping to diversify her work. In 2004, she released the ambitious "Medúla," an album made up entirely of vocal samples before then returning to the more beat-driven, upbeat record, "Volta" in 2007.

Björk continued to be ambitious in her scope for musical exploration, creating the concept album "Biophillia," which explored humanity's interaction with the natural world, most notably its geological landscape, and how music reflects this. The album also spawned an IMAX film, as well as a BBC 4 documentary, "When Björk met David Attenborough," further exploring this subject matter.

Forever busy, Björk appeared on a Death Grips release, on the album, "Niggas on the Moon." A live DVD of her "Biophillia" project followed shortly after in 2014, which captured Björk's ability to put on an impressive live show. In 2015, her ninth studio album was unexpectedly released after it was leaked prior on the internet, yet Björk still found critical acclaim for her highly anticipated "Vulnicura."

Live reviews

It could be argued that Björk's 2011 release 'Crystalline' was her most creative and daring collection since her career began way back in 1992. The Icelandic mega-star has always been known to push boundaries of visual media and its relation with music and this innovation remains present during her live performance.

From the percussive intro to 'Cosmogony' the sense of anticipation in the room is strong as the audience watch Björk's impressive choir ominously chant the introduction. The classic tracks such as 'Hunter' and 'Hidden Place' gain huge cheers and the performance of these influential pieces of alternative pop prove why Björk is such an iconic musician.

With such a large discography, she continuously keeps her set lists fresh and interesting by playing a variety of fan favourites as opposed to reverting straight back to the likes of 'Crying' or 'Army Of Me'. 'The Pleasure Is All Mine' sounded wonderful with a supporting choir, and 'Mouth's Cradle' was as haunting as ever.

Perhaps the oldest track performed of the evening 'Hyperballad' attains the most poignant moment as her pained vocal annunciates every lyric on this tender and beautiful ballad. The controversial 'Declare Independence' acts as the encore and the way in which Björk delivers this epic piece of power pop leaves audiences chattering about the Scandinavian star all the way into the night.

Being in the audience for a Björk performance is the modern equivalent of being one of those slack jawed scientists at the end of “Close Encounters” who stand there in amazement when the higher beings descend from above to teach us a new musical language.

Your mind melts and your synapses stretch under a slew of signals and images until you’re simply transported somewhere else.

She’s a genius.

This was the first dress rehearsal for her forthcoming world tour for her new album, Utopia and it was staged in a local cinema near to her home in Reykjavik.

We had been politely asked by Björk to refrain from taking any pictures before, during or after the show, but I can describe the set as a multi-layered combination of platforms and stages, some of which rotated while Björk or her amazing supporting artists moved from one level to another.

Those support artists are seven female flautists, who call to mind Shakespearean woodland nymphs and sprites as they jauntily run from one stage to another.

The set was dressed as a river garden, with fronds and delicate arrays of plants.

The set was around 90 minutes long, with a one song encore and no interval.

As a gig experience, it was incredibly emotional and affecting and I still find myself somewhat stunned by it now, the next day.

If you can get tickets, get them. This is not to be missed.

Björk's creativity and ability to captivate her audience is indescribable. She exudes such raw talent and a talent for entertaining her audience. She is so different and uniquely Björk that there can be no one just like her.

Her performance at each of her shows is something else. It seems as though she loves to perform and loves to bare herself to the audience.

Her voice is lovely and has a quality about it that is all her own. live is a sight to behold and her style can seem strange to some unfamiliar with her but her fans know that she just expresses herself differently. It really is something completely worthwhile to see her live and in person. The audience really appreciates her and her adorably unique voice.

She sounds dainty and tiny at first but throughout her show she gets progressively louder and more resonating and you can feel how powerful her voice can be. Everyone in the audience will be silent, you don't dare make a sound as she unfolds before your eyes and ears.

Björk is an unforgettable experience and her music, show and audience come together with such perfect clarity. She is delicate and strong and everything you would want as a performer.

Let me start off by saying that I don't like all of Björk's music but there are a few specific songs that I fell in love with and listened to nonstop at one point, and she got me through a pretty tough time in my life. So I was kind of scared that Her new album would not really be my thing, and after listening to several of its songs, I was convinced it wasn't. I bought the tickets mostly for the visuals.

My low expectations completely dissolved about 10 seconds into the concert. Björk's incredible voice in combination with her visual performance was literal magic. It was a feast for the senses - all the senses. In terms of music/movies/art I have about the emotional capacity of a brick wall, but I teared up more than once. I had to keep myself in check constantly, asking "Oh my god. Is this really happening to me right now?"

It was the fastest-moving two hours of my life. Seeing Björk live at Carnegie Hall was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I've tried to sum it up in this review but to be honest, I feel like no words could ever come close to capturing what I saw, heard, felt, and went through.

Excellent support from Lotic and Arca set the tone for a march harder, 'festival-style', beats-and-bass-oriented gig than I expected, but was utterly excited by. Did not expect to dance *so much* but it was impossible not to. Cracking setlist going as far back as Army of Me and Hunter, but still weaving in new faves like Mutual Core and of course the main body of Vulnicura. As predicted, Mouth Mantra translated pretty extraordinarily to a live set, and the pyrotechnics didn't hurt. Hyperballad was the perfect encore too. Bjork herself was on undeniably good form, but then that was never in doubt - her vocals on point, and her fun command of the stage made her feel accessible and the moments intimate despite the content being so constantly explosive and grand. Couldn't have asked for more.

A stripped down Björk with no band or choir this time, but with orchestra instead. Just her, the orchestra and the music. The first part of the performance featured on the new album 'Vulnicura' which is another masterpiece. After the brief intermission we were in more familiar territory with powerful and moving interpretations of some of her more famous songs. Jöga and Bachelorette being standout versions for me personally but sadly, no 'Pagan Poetry' in this set. After two hours of magical music from Björk, the sold out audience at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo left satisfied and amazed one again. 10/10.

The venue at Royal Arena,

My friend and I were looking for seeing the concert but everything is digital and our ticket once scan for entry not allow to scan again if you went out. So my friend has problem to come back to the concert duo to the long explain to the gate. And buying the bottle of water but is not allow to have “bottle”! They put out the water from Whole bottle of water into a cokecola paper cut. But who can drink water once in this quantity?

The sounds are amazing l!

Everything is fantastic!

But I miss to see your face - Björk

I miss to see Björk real face

I love you Björk

WRONG location!Björk is an artist you need to see. The stage was definetly too low.they should at least put a huge live screen.the first half an hour of the concert i wished i could have sit at home and listening to the cd.the sound was also very poor!

Very annoying have been also the dj before!no mention of them on the ticket....wanted to trap people there to sell food & drinks.

Saw Bjork perform at the Harpa in Reykjavik, the ticket along with the flights from the UK plus accommodation cost me a fortune, but still I have no regrets. Singing with just a string orchestra, Bjork's voice sounded as good as it ever has, and what a powerful, emotive performance from what has to be the most original artist out there.

Can't wait to see her again!

I t has been a rough 15 years for Australian Björk fans. Like a cult whose leader swiftly abandoned us with no explanation, we’ve oscillated between naive hope and complete despair, waiting for her return. Why hadn’t the Icelandic singer-songwriter – the most singular musician in a generation – played here for so long? Was she refusing (or, worse, had she forgotten?) to perform nearly half of her discography here? Would she ever come back? Did … did we do something wrong?

If you’re a geriatric millennial Björk fan like me, her absence has felt almost personal. We were too young for 1994’s Big Day Out. We missed her sold-out-in-minutes show on the Opera House steps after 2007’s Volta. Those who caught her DJ set at Sydney’s Carriageworks for 2016’s Vivid left us confused and bereft. None of the music was Björk’s; no one could see her behind a strategically placed pot plant. (“Do we even know that was her ?” punters asked.) She hasn’t played live in Australia since 2008.

Now, all is forgiven. Or, rather, full of love. What we witnessed on the opening night of Cornucopia – the first of four shows Björk will play in Australia, and a Perth festival exclusive – was the ultimate expression of her artistry, an electrifying culmination of everything she has worked on since 1993’s Debut. Björk had already perfected minimalism with 1997’s Homogenic (beats, strings, voice) and 2004’s Medúlla (almost entirely a capella). Cornucopia sees Björk at her maximalist best.

At first glance, you might assume Perth is lucky to have scored Björk at all. When she insisted Cornucopia would be staged in only one Australian city, the most geographically isolated city in the world didn’t scream “likely winner”. But Perth festival did its homework. They won the bid by pitching to the renowned nature-enthusiast – who collaborated with Sir David Attenborough during 2011’s Biophilia – that Noongar Boodjar is “one of the most biodiverse places on the planet”. It’s also home to some of the oldest geographic formations on Earth, in a neat contrast to Iceland’s adolescent volcanic wonders. It’s a great sell. And audiences have flown across the continent – and world – just for it.

In Langley Park, Perth festival has specially constructed a 100 x 55m pavilion with 5000 seats, custom made for a sonic and visual spectacular. Co-directed by acclaimed Argentinian film-maker Lucrecia Martel, Cornucopia is designed as a lush art installation and opening ceremony as much as pop concert. Björk might primarily be a composer and musician, but she is also a collaborative multimedia artist. Her songs – like puzzles – often only become unlocked and make more sense with a visual accompaniment. Think of how synonymous her early hits were with her videos: her deranged cartoon self tearing apart a chicken in I Miss You; the emotional eruptions of her home country in Jóga; the sexual intensity of Pagan Poetry, in which a nude and post-coital Björk literally sews her body into a wedding dress.

“When I get asked about the differences of the music on my records, I find it quickest to use visual shortcuts,” Björk recently said on her podcast Sonic Symbolism. “It’s kind of why my album covers are almost like homemade tarot cards. The image on the front might seem just like a visual moment. But for me, it is simply describing the sound of it.”

She takes that visualisation to the next level with Cornucopia. Early in the set, during The Gate, the entire pavilion shudders and throbs with light, as if we were all inside an electronic womb of Björk’s making. During the ecstatic rushes of Arisen My Senses, feathers, tendons and strings repeatedly explode around her. Two songs – Ovule and Atopos – represent the first time Björk has performed them live anywhere in the world.

In Langley Park, Perth festival has specially constructed a 5000-seat pavilion, custom-made for a sonic and visual spectacular.

Mostly, Cornucopia mines 2017’s Utopia (an album that’s all Disney flutes and birdsong, scoring a paradise after the post-breakup hell of 2015’s Vulnicura) and 2022’s Fossora (preoccupations: clarinets; the death of Björk’s mother; fungus). Björk has pointed out that the two albums are in conversation: both delve into concepts of nature, healing and regeneration.

Both albums also feature a lot of woodwind. Icelandic flute septet Viibra dance while they perform. (It’s entirely possible they’ve pioneered the concept of a choreographed flute section.) An 18-strong choir – who everyone is thrilled to discover are locals from Perth – anchors everything with humane beauty.

However, for longtime Björk fans, added joy comes from how her hits are arranged with approaches from utterly different albums. Hidden Place (from 2001’s Vespertine) is rendered even more sacred with the a capella treatment from 2004’s Medúlla. Mouth’s Cradle – originally comprising of human vocals alone – is paired with live frenetic drumming straight from 2007’s Volta . Mega-hit Isobel – from 1995’s Post – swaps strings with the exhilarating cartoon flutes from 2017’s Utopia . The result is a pure headrush.

As with everything Björk does, there is a thesis and provocation here, too. After she finishes her main set, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg appears as a projection, directly addressing – and challenging – the crowd on the climate emergency, in a region of the world that has gotten fat, comfortable and rich from fossil fuels. If you are enjoying this celebration of natural wonder and art so much, Björk and Thunberg ask, what exactly are you going to do outside these walls to protect it?

And Cornucopia is ultimately a celebration of nature. The visuals surrounding us are almost live organisms themselves, programmed to respond seamlessly to the sound produced on stage. Björk cries out in song and flowers bloom. Flutes tweet happily and fungal spores shudder. It reminds me of how, in the world of Tolkien – another artist who celebrated the sanctity of nature – it is believed nature was sung into existence. We might be doing our best to destroy it, especially in this part of the world. But tonight Björk reminds us that art has its own responsibilities too. And the first step is to show up.

Watch official footage of Björk’s epic drone-assisted Coachella 2023 performance

The set was meant to be livestreamed but was pulled hours before the Icelandic singer's performance

Bjork

Björk lit up the sky over Coachella 2023 earlier this month by incorporating over 800 drones into her performance – you can now watch her performance here.

  • READ MORE: Björk on the cover: “First you create a universe with sound, then you move into it”

Clips of her renditions of ‘I’ve Seen It All’ and ‘Hyperballad’ have now been officially released on Coachella’s YouTube channel .

Initially, the set was  scheduled to be livestreamed  onto Coachella’s YouTube channel. However, in a controversial decision, both Björk and Frank Ocean ’s performances were  pulled from the schedule  hours before they took to the stage.

The career-spanning set, which saw Björk perform with an orchestra conducted by Bjarni Frímann, prioritised “simplicity” – according to the Icelandic singer – but also enlisted over 800 drones as a visual aid for the crowd.

Check out ‘I’ve Seen It All’ and ‘Hyperballad’ below:

The set also included fan favourites such as ‘Isobel’ and ‘Joga’ and saw the drones create green, blue and red displays that matched each performance. She also performed ‘Pluto’ as her encore finale.

This year marked Björk’s third time appearing at the festival – following performances in 2002 and again in 2007. She is one of only nine acts who have headlined Coachella multiple times, and was the first woman to do so.

Björk’s Coachella 2023 setlist was:

‘Stonemilker’ ‘Aurora’ ‘Come to Me’ ‘Lionsong’ ‘I’ve Seen It All’ ‘Freefall’ ‘Hunter’ ‘You’ve Been Flirting Again’ ‘Isobel’ ‘Jóga’ ‘Quicksand’ ‘Notget’ ‘Hyperballad’ Encore: ‘Overture’ ‘Pluto’

Following her appearance at Coachella, Björk is also gearing up for an  upcoming European tour . Announced back in January, the European leg of the ‘Cornucopia’ tour will kick off in September and celebrates her two latest albums  ‘Utopia’  (2017) and  ‘Fossora’  (2022).

The Icelandic singer  first premiered the show in New York , featuring a 50-person choir and the flute group Viibra.

Meanwhile, last month saw Björk team up with  Shygirl  for a  new version of ‘Woe’.  The track is taken from the deluxe edition of the artist’s debut album  ‘Nymph’  – titled ‘Nymph_o’ – and contains the album’s original songs, alongside new remixes and guest features.

Discussing her newly-added lyrics to the track, Björk described the songs as “talking about both different amorous interests and fame,” and exploring how “suddenly everyone wants something from you and you should be thrilled, but you’re not.”

Alexander Bjork A Risky Option At Valspar

A lexander Bjork was on fire on the DP World Tour last year. The 33-year-old Swede racked up nine finishes inside of the top-10, and an additional five finishes inside of the top-20, in just 23 starts in the 2023 calendar year. Unfortunately, those results haven't quite carried over to the PGA Tour this season. Bjork has missed the cut in three of six starts, with additional finishes of T70, T47 and a lone bright spot of T11 at The American Express in January. He also ranks outside of the top 100 golfers in this field in a number of key statistics required for success at Innisbrook, including strokes gained from tee-to-green, around-the-green, scrambling, putting on Poa, par 5 scoring, opportunities gained, and strokes gained on difficult courses over the last 24 rounds. Fantasy managers would be wise to wait for a return to form and a better course fit before choosing to roster Bjork.

Texas A&M hires Trev Alberts as AD: Nebraska legend leaves for same post with Aggies to replace Ross Bjork

Texas a&m would owe nebraska $4 million as part of alberts' buyout.

NCAA Basketball: Purdue at Nebraska

Texas A&M has hired Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts to the same position, the school announced Wednesday. Alberts replaces Ross Bjork, who left to become the athletic director at Ohio State in January.

"With Trev's expertise, the Aggies are poised to not only excel on the fields, tracks and courts, but also successfully navigate the multi-faceted intersection of sports, commerce and student-athlete empowerment," Texas A&M president Trev Welsh said in a statement released by the school. "He has a profound understanding of the intricate business of athletics and the evolving landscape of college athletics, particularly in the realm of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL)."

Nebraska's athletic department underwent a period of strong improvement under Alberts, a Cornhuskers legend in his own right. Alberts fired former Nebraska star Scott Frost and hired former Baylor and Carolina Panthers coach Matt Rhule, who posted strong returns in his first season despite a 5-7 overall record. Alberts also organized Nebraska Volleyball Day in August 2023, when the university hosted the most-attended women's sporting event of all time with more than 92,000 fans inside Memorial Stadium. Nebraska women's basketball is set to make consecutive NCAA Tournaments for the first time since 2014, while the men's team could reach the Big Dance for the first time since the same year.

"From my perspective, there has never been a more consequential time in history for higher education and the evolving landscape of intercollegiate athletics," Alberts said in a statement released by the school. "Leadership matters now more than ever before. My interest in Texas A&M is not only due to its prestigious reputation but also because of President Welsh's compelling vision in which, I believe, Athletics can play a small but important role in helping Texas A&M achieve unprecedented success."

Alberts has led Nebraska's athletic department since 2021 when his alma mater hired him away from Nebraska-Omaha. The hire was somewhat surprising as Alberts had no prior administrative experience at the FBS level. Nebraska-Omaha eliminated its football program while transitioning up to the Summit League.

Nebraska came to terms on a  contract extension  with Alberts in November 2023 taking him through 2031 and paying him more than $2 million starting in 2026. Texas A&M had to pay a $4 million buyout to get out of Alberts' Nebraska contract, according to  Yahoo Sports.

A standout linebacker at Nebraska in the 1990s, Alberts' No. 34 is retired by the program. In 1993, Alberts won the Butkus Award and was named a unanimous All-American.
