On most coach tours you will find that there are no hidden extras. Usually, accommodation, all meals, entry fees, most morning and afternoon teas and often cruises and are all included in the price.

The coach companies what you to come back again and again so they usually make the dining experiences memorable. Offering mouth-watering meals and wines that are often made from local produce, you will have to pay for wines.

There are a large range of coach companies and tours are available throughout every Australia state. Just about all tour accommodation comes with private en-suite bathrooms, unless otherwise specified in the tour description.

Not all Coach Tours are the Same

Coach tours are conducted in Luxury Coaches or Budget Coaches.

Luxury Coach Tours

The modern top of the line luxury touring coaches offer passengers that something special, They build these coaches to offer many creature comforts, like deluxe fabric covered reclining seats mostly with head and arm rests, they are climate control air conditioned with individual vent controls and individual reading lights simpler to those on the modern aeroplane. Luggage is included - so you have no issue about carrying luggage and the elderly and disabled passengers are very well care for.

The larger coaches have on board televisions and video, they have sophisticated sound systems, chilled water fountains and most have tea/coffee making facilities. The wide tinted windows and smart curtains all to give a feeling of comfort and luxury. The Larger Luxury Coaches have seatbelts, power steering, full air suspension and safety braking and to ensure your well-being. The extra height of these coaches helps increase the magnificent panorama not available to smaller vehicles.

It is a good idea to book early to be assured of getting your seat on the best tours.

Budget Coach Tours

Budget coach/bus tours are normally activity based and thus the coach or bus stops frequently. In most cases the budget coaches do not have on board toilets, but passengers do find the modern vehicles are remarkably comfortable. They almost all have coach seats with arm and headrests, climate control air-conditioning with individual vent controls.

Some may wonder what the best age to travel is – we think all of them

The best thing about travel is it’s not a one-and-done. You can see the same sights at 18 and 58 but in completely different ways. Maybe the last time you travelled you did it all on your own – a mighty effort, but with a small group tour you can ease up and hand the reins to a local leader who knows their destination inside out. With transport, logistics and day-to-day titbits all taken care of, you can get the most out of your trip. Whatever your ideal trip looks like – whether it’s a wildlife trek through Alaska's Denali National Park , an unforgettable cruise down the Nile , or sipping margaritas with new amigos in Mexico – your next adventure is waiting for you.

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip as a senior.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Learn more about Intrepid's COVID-19 policy

Who are Intrepid travellers?

Intrepid adventures are for travellers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you're travelling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 70, there is an Intrepid adventure to suit your interests and comfort level. Each Intrepid adventure has a physical and cultural grading to help you decide if the trip is right for you. No special skills are required for most adventures, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world. Even on our camping adventures no previous experience is required; our tents are easy to set up, even for first-time campers.

Are there age restrictions on your trips?

For the majority of our trips the minimum age is 15. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18. Our Overland Adventures have a minimum age of 18. Younger children can join us on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but check each trip for its minimum age, which is located on the trip’s overview page on the website. Most of our trips don’t have a maximum age limit, but a Self-Assessment Form is required for all passengers 70 years and over.

How many people will be on my trip?

Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we’re small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals. On most of our trips you’ll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Our Overland trips are in purpose-built vehicles that can carry up to 24 travellers. Group sizes are displayed on each trip’s overview page on our website.

I’m travelling alone – is that OK?

This is the beauty of the Intrepid style of travel: many of our travellers join because they are travelling solo and want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Learn more about solo travel

I have a disability – can I join an Intrepid trip?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. We ask that you carefully consider whether you are physically and mentally able to complete the itinerary you have chosen, recognising that on many trips you will be required to carry your own bags and use public transport.

Where we can we will make reasonable adjustments to the operation of our trips to facilitate the requirements of disabled travellers – such as booking ground floor accommodation, or having our leaders communicate important directions in writing as well as verbally. Many travellers with disabilities have been able to enjoy our trips by travelling with a friend or companion who can assist with specific needs. If joining a group trip is not practical we may be able to provide you with a private departure. Please contact our sales team for further information on any of our itineraries.

Learn more about accessible travel with Intrepid

Do I need to buy travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips if you’re travelling internationally. Minimum coverage may differ from trip to trip, so make sure you check the Travel Insurance section in your Essential Trip Information. You will not be permitted to join the group until your leader has sighted your insurance policy number and the insurance company's 24-hour emergency contact number – it’s really important there are no barriers to getting emergency assistance for you.

Will I have my own room?

It's your call. Rooming on our trips is organised on a twin-share basis, but most of our trips also have the option to pay an extra fee for your own room. Just let us know at the time of booking and we'll arrange it for you.

For twin-share rooms, we pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender as per the gender marker on each of their passports. As a responsible tour operator, we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. In the case that your gender identity differs from what's indicated on your passport, please contact us so that we can discuss rooming options with you.

On a small selection of itineraries some accommodations are booked on an open-gender, multi-share basis. In those instances it will clearly be stated in your Essential Trip Information.

How does group time work?

Whether you’re travelling alone or with a partner, our trips have a set itinerary. But within that there’s time set aside for your own exploration (if you want to – no pressure). Depending on how you're feeling, you may want to have some downtime, ask your guide for a few tips then head out alone, or hang out with the group and see where the day takes you.

What makes a small group tour better than a coach tour?

The main difference between a small group tour and a coach tour is the size of the group; our tours have 10 travellers each (on average) while coaches can hold up to 60 people. This means that you'll never have to vie for your leader's attention on a small group tour because you'll automatically have it.

A unique small group journey into the outback

Odyssey offers a small group tour of Australia providing a journey between cities with just 250 years of European history, and an outback, which has some of the oldest known geologic material on earth. Importantly, it has one of the longest and most truly fascinating periods of human settlement, which we seek to convey through our collection of small group outback tour programs. This collection of outback tours for seniors takes the senior couple or solo traveller on a guided tour through the national park network, into the Flinders range including Wilpena pound, Birdsville, or beyond Broken hill. In the Northern Territory to Watarrka national park and King’s canyon or Tennant creek. Priority is given to sourcing indigenous guide to share their knowledge of outback Australia on these outback tours for seniors.

Indigenous Australians settled, possibly via a land bridge on the continent from Southeast Asia, at least 85,000 years before the first Europeans from Portugal and Spain began exploration in the 17th century. For senior and mature travellers, a small group outback tour of Australia is a unique experience, an outback adventure and an inspiration for the mature traveller interested in a small group journey. You can travel along the Oodnadatta Track , journey over the Nullarbor Plain, visit the Kimberley region or watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean from Broome. On an Odyssey outback tour you have the chance, not just to experience the amazing landscape, but to learn about indigenous culture from indigenous guides and from the physical evidence still available, including rock art in the Bungle Bungle Ranges and the fish traps at Brewarrina .

Australia is a country the size of America, but with a population of just 25 million, and one of the longest coastlines in the World. Some 80% of the population lives on Australia ‘s east coast, separated from what is known as the outback by the low mountains of the Great Dividing Range. Australia ‘s geographic diversity, in landforms, flora, and wildlife, is part of its charm, providing the back drop for a small group outback adventure in the winter period . Whilst the Great Barrier reef, kangaroos and koalas are well known, the great biodiversity of the native Australian wildlife is less well known, and an escorted tour, complete with a local guide into the outback, provides an amazing opportunity. The biodiversity present is often missed until a good tour guide or travel expert shares their knowledge with you. Our small group tours of Australia including any of chosen Australian outback tour or air charter allows you to travel on an epic journey across one of the world’s most beautiful and fascinating countries. Take a journey across the outback and experience a national park such as Purnululu National Park , the Blue Mountains , Kuku Yalanji, the Great Barrier reef and Kata Tjuta. These parks account for some 10% of the World’s biodiversity and on any tour of Australia, travellers can expect to meet unique wildlife, just waiting to be photographed.

Reaching your Destinations

Travel in Australia can be a challenge. Once you leave the major cities of Sydney , Melbourne or Brisbane on a journey by car, or on an escorted tour by coach, the sheer scale of the country begins to reveal itself as the journey unfolds. It is on a scale often unrecognised when flying, for example, to Cairns or Port Douglas from Sydney to explore a UNESCO world heritage site such as the Daintree rainforest or the Great Barrier reef in far North Queensland. You may arrive in Cairns in less than three hours by plane, but on the road, through the outback, this journey for the tour group, becomes an outback adventure, that can run for days. It can become an epic journey, one that requires careful planning and destinations selected well in advance, if you are to arrive safely at your outback destination.

The same rules apply for the journey to Alice Springs and Uluru (Ayers rock ) in the Kata Tjuta National park. From Sydney, or any of the state capitals, this journey has much that will be missed by plane. When you travel as part of a small group tour of Australia with Odyssey, there is so much more to experience. The journey from Sydney to Uluru passes first through another UNESCO world heritage site, the Blue Mountains National Park with its extraordinary gorges and cliff faces, so easily missed unless you know where to look. Farmland and rural towns soon disappear as the drive takes us towards the Northern Territory, then three thousand kilometres away, we finally reach Uluru. This is the Australian outback!

The vast scale of the outback may not be missed on a solo journey by car, but there is so much more to experience than simply distance. When you travel as part of a small group tour of Australia with Odyssey, your programme leader, or your local guide for the day, will be sharing stories with you about the Australian wildlife, local legends or some of world’s most beautiful stories from the dreamtime of the indigenous Australian communities you visit. Aboriginal culture and colonial history both come to life in the sites and country museums we visit, and in the tales related by locals. The Odyssey Australian outback tour seeks to create programs that provide learning as well as enjoyment and adventure as you travel overland, off the beaten track through Central Australia.

Small group tours of Australia for seniors from Odyssey.

Odyssey has, over almost 40 years, put together a collection of Australia packages for air tours , coach tours and motorbike tours within Australia and overseas for the mature solo and senior couple. Our aim is to create Seniors holiday packages that older people from within Australia, and those from overseas, can enjoy. We have created a wide variety of itineraries for local and international travellers with the opportunity to take the journey, often into the Australian outback, that go beyond the icons of the Sydney Opera House or the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Uluru ( Ayers rock ) and the Great Barrier Reef. Our travel programs in Australia for seniors seek to take you off the beaten track on a road trip to explore some less well known, but still spectacular scenery. They are designed for older travellers, couples and those travelling solo. Your fellow traveller understands as does the tour manager leading the group about solo travel. There is a single supplement for solo occupancy of a hotel room. What is important though is that for both couples and the single traveller that you are with a like minded people seeking a similar travel style and experience.

We hope, like Robert Frost, to take the road less travelled. These may not be adventure Australia tours but they are wildlife Australia tours. We provide travel experiences in central Australia that follow the Birdsville track , or take the Canning stock route, camping each night. Another tour explores the Oodnadatta Track and continues into the Flinders Ranges and Brachina Gorge. We have coach tours in Australia that track the stunning scenery of the great Australian Bight or the wildflowers of Western Australia and the extraordinary Kimberley region.

This is a fascinating country and our collection of discovery Australia escorted tour(s) seek to show how its geographical isolation has allowed for an incredible biodiversity record unlike that of any other place on the planet. This can be seen in its unique Australian wildlife, from the the kangaroo, platypus, wombat, quokka, echidna and koala, to its plant diversity, expressed in the wildflowers of Western Australia . Of course not all our tours are wildlife tours, but once our outback tours of Australia leave the built up environment, then there will almost certainly be a wildlife experience at some time on your vacation.

Our group tours for seniors in Western Australia , give the traveller the opportunity to explore and learn about places such as Broome and the beautiful Kimberley coast, Kings Canyon, Kuranda the Bungle Bungle Ranges and Lake Argyll , while developing an understanding of the wet and dry climatic cycle of the Kimberley. The Aborigines have been present here for some 60,000 years in WA and we hope to come to some understanding of Aboriginal history and culture. They developed not only incredible storytelling, to pass on from generation to generation, but had the ability to manage the world’s most arid continent on a sustainable basis. The Aboriginal people also represented their life and understanding of the spirit world through their rock art and painting . We have the opportunity to explore Aboriginal rock art , particularly in the Kimberley region, on these Western Australia tours.

In South Australia , Europeans made their mark in the Flinders ranges, long after geologic processes commenced. Beautiful Wilpena Pound represents the stumps of mountains believed to have once been as tall as the Himalayas. Coober Pedy , with its unusual underground living, yielded opals to miners while other British settlers sought to develop agriculture, train lines and the telegraph through the Flinders ranges. The Oodnadatta track, also in South Australia, provides the traveller with the chance to learn more about both Aboriginal and colonial history.

A traveller with a curiosity and interest in outback Australia and fossils can join an Odyssey program in country New South Wales that ends in far North Queensland in the place where complete Dinosaur skeletons were uncovered by local people some 50 years ago or learn about Australia’s unique Megafauna . Our senior traveller can sit and consider that moment in time, just outside what is Winton today, when a herd of Dinosaurs stampeded through the mud to escape a larger Dinosaur, seeking lunch some 65 Million years ago. On our outback tour we can show you this in the exposed geological record.

What can be discovered in Australia, from the past and the current environment, is simply fascinating once the traveller escapes the cities and ventures into the outback. You can’t really capture the outback spirit from a seat in an aeroplane. You need to get out into the Northern Territory and Western Australia, or at least to drive across the Hay Plain on your way to Lake Mungo . We don’t, however, ignore the cities entirely as major cities, including Sydney , Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth , Darwin & Hobart , where the vast majority of the population lives, each have their contribution to make to an understanding of modern Australia. Our Victorian Gold Rush and Gardens tour begins and ends in Melbourne, there’s a dedicated tour to Adelaide in South Australia or you can take a tour that concentrates on Canberra , the nation’s capital.

Odyssey wants travellers on an Australian small group tour to experience the extraordinary variety that this country has to offer. We want you to be surprised by information that has been recently discovered by Europeans but known to Indigenous Australian for thousands of years. In the outback of Western Australia, for example, just down the road (well only a few hundred kilometres), from the UNESCO World heritage site at the Purunululu National Park (home to the Bungle Bungle rock formation ) is the world’s second largest meteorite impact crater. A meteorite struck this part of the planet some 120,000 years ago at Wolfe Creek. This crater remained unknown to Europeans until it was spotted from the air in 1947, though the local indigenous community had been telling stories of the event for many thousands of years!

For the majority of people on vacation, Queensland represents the beach in their minds. The Great Barrier reef , Cairns , East coast beaches at Noosa or the Gold coast , the Whitsunday islands , Fraser island , the worlds largest sand bank and Brisbane.

For the majority of visitors, they hug the east coast not venturing into the Australian Outback to discover the history of Aboriginal settlement, the river boat traffic down the Murray river or the impact the railway lines brought to regional towns at the begining of the 1900’s. But if you can get beyond Australia’s E ast coast and the G reat Barrier reef particularly in going inland into Queensland then the history is revealed from Winton with the discovery of complete dinosaur skeletons , the town where Waltzing Matilda was first played or where the airline Qantas was the germ of an idea in Longreach, then the stories and history are quickly exposed and become intriguing as they reveal the Australian character. If you prefer travelling by land, our coaches used on our small group tours, are typically kneeling (the coach can be lowered to the ground upon embarking/disembarking vehicle), 14-to 21-seater, business style coaches with reclining chair, USB ports, Wi-Fi (when available) and an on-board toilet.

What to do on a Melbourne vacation as part of a tour of Australia?

During Odyssey’s escorted, small group tour for seniors to Melbourne , we enjoy a collection of day trips, based from Melbourne CBD . We explore Melbourne’s history and architecture through its labyrinth of laneways, guided by a knowledgeable tour leader and local guides. You will see the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Royal Exhibition building , as well as the Parliament House and the Old Treasury building, where you will learn how the Gold Rush transformed Victoria .

Melbourne , Sydney’ s “rival”, is a sophisticated metropolis and should also be included as part of the itinerary on a small group tour of Australia .

Central Melbourne is the most European of Australia’ s cities and is its cultural capital. Its unique character includes its trams and its Victorian-era architecture. Melbourne offers excellent shopping and cultural sites such as art galleries and museums. Central Melbourne has colourful neighbourhoods such as Fitzroy and the beach side suburb of St. Kilda, just a Melbourne tram ride away. A Day tour out of Melbourne can be to Daylesford for a spa or to Phillip Island to watch the Penguin activity at sunset. The gold rush towns of Ballarat and Bendigo are a comfortable day tour if Melbourne is your base during your time in Victoria. A long day tour would be along the scenic Great Ocean road including the unique rock formation of the Twelve Apostles, returning back to Melbourne along the inland route or onto Port Fairy.

Odyssey’s Australian escorted small group tours for seniors vary in costs. Please see all our Australian tours by clicking on this link:

What is the internet access like in Australia?

Residential broadband Internet access is available in Australia using ADSL, cable, fibre, satellite and wireless technologies. According to Okolo’s Speed test Global Index, Australia’s average download speed is 58.83Mbps with an average upload speed of 21.44Mbps (as of December 2020). That puts Australia 61st in the world.

Do you need a visa to travel to Australia?

Unless you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, you will need a valid Australian visa to enter the country. New Zealand passport holders can apply for a visa upon arrival in the country. All other passport holders must apply for a visa before leaving home. You can apply for a range of visas, including tourist visas and working holiday visas, at your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate.

What to do when visiting Adelaide as part of your small group tour of Australia?

Adelaide is an easy going, relaxed and garden-like city. The Adelaide Museum and the art gallery collections will surprise and delight the visitor seeking history.

Port Adelaide is also well worth a visit. A guided tour of the Barossa Valley or the McLaren Vale wine districts are suggested in order to appreciate the impact different nationalities have had on the settlement of South Australia. Kangaroo Island with its abundance of wildlife and Cleland Conservation Park where you can get up close to many of the country’s indigenous animals is best as a mulit-night stay rather a day tour .

For those with an interest in train journeys, you can catch a train from Adelaide to the Northern Territory capital Darwin through the outback to Alice Springs , where you join a guided tour to Uluru Ayers rock , before continuing on through the Northern Territory to Darwin. This journey puts any tour of Australia into context as the kilometres of rail pull you the traveler through Australia’s outback to Darwin.

What to do when visiting Australia’s capital, Canberra as part of your small group tour of Australia?

Australia’s capital city is Canberra , some 4 hours by road from Sydney and about 6 hours from Melbourne . The serene unhurried and purpose-built and planned capital, is located around the attractive artificial Lake Burley Griffin. Some of the major landmarks are the old Parliament House, the traditionally designed Parliament Building and the Australian War Memorial. Canberra is home to the National Art Gallery and National Museum which are worth visiting.

What to do in the Australian outback as part of a tour of Australia?

The Australian Outback is actually a vast area which comprises most of Australia and which is made up of either semi-arid or desert land. It is not an exact location. One of the best-known towns is Alice Springs , and it`s the perfect place to explore the Australian Outback , which is also known as the “Red Centre”. It is also the home of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Activities here can include camel rides from one of the many camel farms, stargazing as the town exists under amazingly clear skies and hot air ballooning. One can visit the nearby King’s Canyon and the MacDonnell Range of mountains located in National parks. There are escorted group tours out of Alice Springs along the Canning stock route or the trek of the Duracks across to the Kimberley. Trails and routes of endurance and often hardship in part of the most arid places in the world.

From Alice springs 450 kilometres/270 miles away is Uluru Ayers Rock in the Uluru Kata Tjuta National park . The huge sandstone monolith which stands out starkly in the surrounding desert is one of Australia ‘s iconic sites and is typically included on a overseas visitor first visit to Australian. Uluru is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site is 348 metres/1142 feet in height. To the Aboriginals, Uluru is a sacred site of spiritual significance and was an integral meeting point on ancient trading routes.

Touring Australia

The need to know

Getting around

Odyssey travels by coach and occasionally uses local transport, including trains and ferries. Specifics for your Australia trip are always outlined in your tour itinerary. Bus services are widely available, with long-distance buses and shuttle buses providing services across the country. The train services are somewhat more limited in terms of transportation coverage, though remain a comfortable and very scenic way of getting around Australia.

Accommodation

In major cities on your Australian tour, Odyssey stays in centrally located 3-4 star hotels, with easy access to public transport. In smaller towns or rural areas, we usually stay in family-run hotels or guesthouses. On our longstay tours, during which you spend the length of the tour in a single location, we use serviced apartments.

Tour guides

Odyssey always engages local guides with regional knowledge to ensure an authentic experience during which you can learn as much as possible about the history and culture of places you visit.

Geography, Environment, & Weather

Australia comprises a land area of about 7.692 million square kilometres.

Although this is just five per cent of the world’s land mass (149.45 million square kilometres), Australia is the planet’s sixth largest country after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil. It is also the only one of the largest six nations that is completely surrounded by water.

Australia is the smallest of the world’s continents. It is also the lowest, the flattest and (apart from Antarctica) the driest.

Due to the size of the country, Australia has serveral different climate zones. The northern section of Australia has a more tropical climate, hot and humid in the summer, and quite warm and dry in the winter, while the southern parts are cooler with mild summers and cool, sometimes rainy winters.

World Heritage Sites

There are 20 properties in Australia listed on the World Heritage List. You can view the listed properties here: (https://whc.unesco.org/en/statesparties/au). Australia listed properties include:

The Great Barrier Reef: a site of remarkable variety and beauty on the north-east coast of Australia. It contains the world’s largest collection of coral reefs, with 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and 4,000 types of mollusc.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, formerly called Uluru (Ayers Rock – Mount Olga) National Park, features spectacular geological formations that dominate the vast red sandy plain of central Australia. Uluru, an immense monolith, and Kata Tjuta, the rock domes located west of Uluru, form part of the traditional belief system of one of the oldest human societies in the world. The traditional owners of Uluru-Kata Tjuta are the Anangu Aboriginal people.

Australian Convict Sites, includes a selection of eleven penal sites, among the thousands established by the British Empire on Australian soil in the 18 th and 19 th centuries. The sites are spread across Australia, from Fremantle in Western Australia to Kingston and Arthur’s Vale on Norfolk Island in the east; and from areas around Sydney in New South Wales in the north, to sites located in Tasmania in the south.

Festivals & Events

Whether it’s the adrenaline rush from the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, a chilled-out break soaking up the music at the Byron Bay Bluesfest or experiencing history and culture at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair in Queensland, Australia has an event that’s sure to feed your passions.

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival takes place in February every year with a colourful and happily chaotic street parade.

Australia has no shortage of riveting sports events, like the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the Australian Open, it’s no wonder sport-lovers come from all around to experience the adrenaline-inducing atmosphere and world-class athletes.

Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and South Australia’s Tasting Australia, are two of many events focused on the culinary side of what Australia has to offer.

Eating & Drinking

Australians love their food and this nation is built on a strong history of migration so it’s no wonder that we’ve become famous to the culinary world for our ‘fusion’ food. English and northern European cooking styles have been a part of Australian food since colonisation. Then in the 1970s many Asian cuisines including Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Indian began to influence the Australian food landscape, as well as the many southern European and Middle Eastern influences such as Spanish, Balkan, Hungarian, Turkish and Lebanese.

Australians are the second largest beer drinkers in the world! Our beer is essentially a cold lager with a strength of around 5 per cent and the list of breweries is endless, including Tooheys, Carlton Draught, Coopers, Boags, Cascade (which is also the oldest that’s still operating), Hahn, James Squire, Victoria Bitter, Emu Export and Little Creatures.

With many great wine regions on the doorsteps of Australia’s largest capital cities, the international reputation of Australian wine has never been greater, currently being the fourth largest exporter of wine worldwide at around 750 million litres per year.

Health & Safety

Generally speaking, Australia is safe to travel in, though always exercise common sense while travelling.

You may wish to read this article on face masks and on being Covid safe when travelling

Electrical Supply

Whenever you travel overseas, it’s always wise to take an appropriate travel adaptor. The electricity supply in Australia runs at 230V and 50Hz. Australia uses the Type I electric plug, so make sure you have the right travel adaptor with you.

Tour Reviews

I had high expectations of all aspects of the school and they were met.

Participant 2018

Enjoyed the local knowledge from Pavel and especially loved his garden.

Very knowledgeable coach drivers, courteous and friendly (as were they all) but Stuart bent over backwards to show us various landmarks around Hobart on our last day.

Morning teas and lunches were superb.

Romans settling Britain & Gaul | Summer School course

Our leader, David Daintree, did a fantastic job. He was able to impart his knowledge and keep an easy-going vibe to the course. Most enjoyable. The two guest speakers were great. As I was reading Alison Alexander's book I was especially pleased to meet her and hear her talk on convicts in Tasmania.

I would like to do it again!

Was nice and leisurely

Mal's knowledge of her subject was outstanding and notes a great help.

Nick Mooney is an excellent leader. His knowledge in so many areas is extensive. It became obvious when meeting other local people that he is regarded very highly. As with Trevor, our driver, nothing was too much trouble for him when trying to make our trip memorable. 10 out of 10.

Nick had interesting comments and views on his field of expertise. Made me think about some of the things I took for granted.

It was my first time with Odyssey & I enjoyed it very much

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole program!

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole program

David is extremely knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. He wasn't rigid with the itinerary (times) as he wanted all the participants to enjoy and see what interested them the most. He did an excellent job.

Great course. Left me wanting to explore more. Plenty of variety in presentation methods. Continually engaging.

Very knowledgeable with a good sense of humour. Well prepared.

It was a first-rate program and fully met expectations

It all worked out very well - as usual!

Mal Bock was an Excellent Program leader & made it a very Pleasurable Experience. I would certainly like to attend further things led by her.

The leader had a great deal of knowledge and good sense of humour also.

  • Carry a card in your wallet or purse from your local hotel, to assist you with the return journey if you do become lost.
  • Always ensure that you are covered by travel insurance. If you need advice on this feel free to contact Odyssey and we’ll be able to help.

Nellie was an amazing tour guide and I had the best time ever! Great trip! The only thing I would Recommend is booking restaurants with more of a vegetarian variety but everything was great! My favourite part was swimming the Great Barrier Reef I was nervous but Nellie took me out and showed me and stayed with me until I was comfortable! Thank you for such a great experience!

Untamed Kimberley (11 Days) Tour

Untamed Kimberley (11 Days)

Recently my husband and I went on an AATKings tour from Darwin to Broome. We have travelled extensively overseas and within Australia. However, this was the BEST tour that we have experienced. Why? Our tour guide, Carolyn Tripper, was the BEST guide that we have ever met. Her experience, having done this tour many times over 17 years, knowledge, personality, contact with many of the hospitality locations, as well as her attention to every detail, alternate plans (when our coach broke down approx. 150kms east of Halls Creek), ensured that we always felt safe and secure in her ability to manage every situation. We cannot speak more highly of ATTKings staff, from Carolyn, to our fantastic and caring coach driver, Mark Fay and Naracoorte Travel & Cruise operator, Therese Oliver. We look forward to our next trip within Australia through Naracoorte Travel & Cruise and hopefully ATTKings!

Overall, the tour was excellent. Delma and Darren were true professionals in keeping the group cohesive and on time. I reconned it to herding a bunch of cats, they have the patience way beyond what I have. The tour took in the sites and the little known places one would just drive past. Would definitely use AAT Kings for any future Australian tours for sure.

Southern Capitals - City Meets Bush (5 Days)

I did not encounter any exciting highlights from the day we leave Sydney to Melbourne. The rest of the tourist told me that the tour highlights would start on the 6th-7th day of the 11-12 days of the entire tour. I only got 5 days tour. ATKing/Trafalgar did not show up nor call the hotel that they could not provide me the service back to the airport on my last day as scheduled. I waited at the lobby and when I call them they told me to get a taxi instead. If they already planted not to show up that morning which the tour guide anticipated), at least call or let the customer know the night before_ this way we don't have to wake up so early and wait for 30-45 minutes at the hotel lobby. Now after my vacation, I still have to file claim for the taxi.. this is hustle. And there is no instructions how to file the claim.

Sometimes a tour is made with the personalities of the group. Well, we had the best. Laughs, teasing, stories, caring and helping each other. Our leader,Carolyn, and driver, Tom, were wonderful. There were a few changes and a few uncertainties...handled by Carolyn so smoothly we hardly noticed. She is a great story teller with a very interesting life and 4,000 cousins. The people we met were so cheerful, and it makes a big difference. The places we went, the history we learned, the adventures we had ...so much in a short time, but not over done. I want to go back.

Solo traveller in Russia

Solo Travel Tours

Single, Love Travel, Over 50? Find age-matched groups across  6 travel styles

Holidays for Singles 50 & Above

Starting out with the idea of solo travel.

Do travel choices for ‘grown up’ solo travellers seem hard to find? Why is it that you see countless tours and cruises advertised for couples and families, but not the solo traveller over 50?

You're a mature solo traveller, and you know what you enjoy when it comes to a holiday. However, maybe feeling that being over 50 and single, you're not feeling so old and not too young, it seems to make it harder to find a solo travel option where you feel you can fit in.

You're not ready for the old fashioned idea of the pensioner set (maybe never), and you've definitely outgrown the Contiki tour option (no such thing as Contiki tours over 50) . But, you're still keen to join an escorted holiday for single travellers 50+ .

SO, WHAT ARE YOUR OPTIONS FOR SOLO TRAVELLERS OVER 50?

Just as it feels your options are dwindling; friends not up for the same travel plans you have in mind, or posses the same passion? Or your circle of single friends is slim and you’re wondering your options for taking off without a travel buddy? Or quite simply, you know you want to go alone. Wherever you are at with your travel plans, you definitely made some inroads as you got this far and you found us – Wow, a travel company for solo travellers over 50 , perhaps is what you’re thinking.

We’ll, here, you fit right in! Because, we only look after solo travellers. We think travel experiences should be shared, one is not enough, two’s a crowd and then the more the merrier. There's a stack of other solo travellers in their fifties , sixties and some young at heart travellers in their seventies too.

Nice change to the other mainstream packages out there – ads loaded with images of the perfect couple touring Europe, or soaking up romantic moments at a tropical resort, and so on and so on…. tragically failing to show single travellers in the picture. And even better, we focus on keeping the single supplement as low as possible. All our tours offer the package with your own room, and all with low single supplements , and even sometimes no single supplement!

GETTING STARTED WITH YOUR OVER 50'S TOUR

FIND YOUR TRAVEL STYLE Not all solo travellers are the same, and that’s why we’ve created 6 travel styles to pick from in our line up of singles holidays

  • 'Discovery' – leisure touring
  • 'On The Go' - walking and adventure tours
  • 'Marine' – ocean and river cruising
  • 'Combo' - mixing it up with tour & cruise combination packages
  • 'Relax' - chill out resort packages
  • 'Essentials' - mindful on the budget, without scrimping on value for money

Age Matched Groups

Most of our tours are created for single travellers 50 years and over ,  and there’s others such as solo tours for over 40's .  And our Cruise Circle for Solos cruise groups are best suited to cruise fans 40 years and over.  Our age-matched solo traveller groups have a proven track record, and you can read the countless testimonials from your fellow solo traveller.

KNOWING YOU BELONG

After checking our our trips, and browsing over our site you'll start to get an idea of your travel style and which trip is a great fit for you. But there's more to it than just picking the trip. It's the feeling you get when you're making plans to travel your own and maybe hesitating because you're not sure about who else is joining. Well, what we can say with all of our years of our experience, since our beginning in 2006, we've learnt one sure thing.  When you come along with a smile, looking forward to your trip and just wanting to make every moment count, so do all our travellers - just like you. Over 50's Travel is a freedom like no other - a release from every day life, an excitement about new encounters, and we know, and our travellers that have gone before you tell us - it will be all of this and more.  Expect lots of laughs, sharing your travel memories, and often, new friendships that last past the days of your tour.  What's more refreshing, and perhaps unexpected is the comradery.  It is so quickly formed with our solo travel tour groups. We even have travellers that return and make plans to join us again on another tour together, because of amazing friendships formed on other trips with us.

As a small group touring company there's a shared intimacy that perhaps can't be found or harder to find on large group arrangements. Shared meals where everyone mixes and mingles, pre dinner and post dinner 'get togethers'.  The laughs can start from breakfast and not end until you rest your head on your pillow, before looking forward to your next day's adventure.

Bus tours are designed to cover multiple attractions in a relatively short period. This allows you to maximize your time and see a wide range of sights without the hassle of planning routes, navigating, and dealing with public transportation.

Safety and Security

Traveling in a group on a bus provides an added layer of safety, especially when exploring unfamiliar territories or foreign countries. Tour operators prioritize the safety of their passengers, giving you peace of mind throughout your trip.

Camaraderie and Social Interaction

Bus tours offer an excellent opportunity to meet and connect with fellow travelers from various backgrounds. Shared experiences create a sense of camaraderie, and you may form lasting friendships with like-minded individuals.

Cost-Effectiveness

Bus tours often bundle various expenses, making them a cost-effective option compared to planning each element of a trip individually. Additionally, group rates and pre-booked admissions may lead to discounts at attractions.

How to Choose a Bus Tour

Choosing the right bus tour can significantly impact the quality of your travel experience. To ensure you select a tour that aligns with your interests, preferences, and budget, consider the following factors when making your decision.

Destination and Itinerary

Start by deciding where you want to travel. Look for bus tours that cover destinations you’ve been dreaming of visiting. Review the itinerary to ensure it includes the key attractions and experiences you desire. Consider whether you prefer a fast-paced tour covering multiple places or a more leisurely trip with more time at each location.

Tour Theme and Focus

Bus tours offer various themes, such as historical, cultural, adventure, culinary, wildlife, and more. Choose a tour that matches your interests and passions, so you can make the most of your journey and engage in activities that excite you.

Group Size and Dynamics

Different bus tours accommodate varying group sizes. If you enjoy a more intimate experience, opt for smaller group tours. Larger groups can offer a diverse mix of people and more social interactions. Read reviews and testimonials to gauge the tour’s atmosphere and whether it aligns with your travel style.

Tour Operator Reputation

Research the tour operator’s reputation and track record. Look for reviews from past travelers to get insights into their experiences and level of satisfaction. Reputable operators prioritize safety, knowledgeable guides, and seamless logistics.

Inclusions and Exclusions

Review what is included in the tour package, such as accommodations, meals, transportation, entrance fees, and activities. Compare the value of inclusions with the overall cost of the tour. Also, check for any optional activities that may incur additional charges.

Comfort and Amenities

Assess the quality of the bus and the amenities provided during the tour. Comfortable seating, air conditioning, and onboard facilities can enhance the overall experience, especially if you’re going on a long trip.

Tour Guides and Expertise

Knowledgeable and personable tour guides can significantly enhance your travel experience. Look for tours that provide experienced guides who can offer valuable insights and ensure a smooth trip.

Budget Considerations

Set a budget for your bus tour and compare prices among different operators. Remember to account for any additional expenses that might arise during the trip. While cost is essential, prioritize the overall value and experience offered by the tour.

Customer Support

Check if the tour operator provides reliable customer support before, during, and after the tour. Having prompt assistance in case of any issues or questions can make a significant difference in your travel experience.

Flexibility and Free Time

Evaluate the level of flexibility provided during the tour. Some tours may have a structured itinerary, while others offer more free time for individual exploration. Choose the one that aligns with your desired balance between organized activities and personal exploration.

Tip: Remember to book in advance, as popular tours often fill up quickly.

Great suggestion!

Gmarie

I just got back from my first bus tour of Scotland and Ireland. All the benefits and highlights listed in this article are true. The one caveat is that you are around a lot of people, not only on the bus but at various tourist points along the way which increases the chances of catching air borne infections. I came down with Covid 3 days into the trip and although mild and I was able to participate in most activities, it set me back a few days and I had to miss out on a few of the outings that I most wanted to see! I wore a mask the rest of the trip. Very few people on the bus wore masks and quite a few had mild coughs. By the end of the trip, I’d say about 1/3 of the bus was sick. A few more wore masks at that point but many didn’t. I wonder if the people who had coughs early on had worn masks if that would have kept others from getting sick. I happened to have brought home Covid tests with me so was able to test. By the end of the trip, 3 of us from my group of 4 had gotten mild Covid. Traveling is stressful as I discovered at age 70 and having not traveled internationally in many years. The tour was too fast paced for me so definitely consider that when planning.

Also, these tours are all starting from America/Canada! What about us intrepid travellers from the UK?

7 great Bus routes in Australia for the first-time traveller

Michela Australia Travel Planning Australia Solo Travel , Getting Around Australia 4

Why travel by bus around Australia

Australia is a country of vast distances, vastness and diverse landscapes, so it’s challenging to figure out the most suitable ways to get around Australia . While going on road trips in Australia is the most adventurous – but also challenging – way to explore the country, it does not often appeal to first-time solo travellers who are likely unfamiliar with driving in Australia : left-hand driving and four-wheel-driving in the Outback.

Table of Contents

That’s where train and bus travel comes in. In fact, for many travellers, it’s a convenient way of getting around that allows exploring the country at a slow pace and in a more relaxed way.

Most bus services operate daily and overnight to cover long distances. Furthermore, by reducing the carbon footprint emissions per person, it’s also a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of touring Australia. Nonetheless, bus travel in Australia has a few downsides, too . Firstly you need extensive time to travel and get organised. Unless you buy a bus pass, it’s not the cheapest way to move around. With the dense interstate and intrastate train & bus network, proper research ahead is key to choosing cost-effective schedules and time-saving routes.

Bus travel in Oz is different than in other parts of the world. While metropolitan areas are well serviced daily, long-distance trains and buses to remote regions are available only a few times a week, when not once a week. Moreover, cancellations or changes to bus schedules and routes in Australia may occur without notice. So, it may take time to find the right source of information and find out how and when you can get around Australia .

Why Bus Travel Australia? – 7 bus routes for the first-time traveller

As an advocate of independent and solo travel in Australia , I have written many articles about getting around the country and giving advice to first-time travellers in Australia.

It’s wise for short-term trips to build an itinerary with a good combination of different transportation methods, including flying, car rental, train and bus, and day tours. Focusing on one or two transportation types, like self-driving or train and bus trips, is a good idea if you plan long-term travel in Australia . There are many reasons for choosing bus travel in Australia .

It’s possible to see much of the country by bus and train. Here are seven great bus routes travelling by bus around Australia that I can recommend:

  • Starting from Sydney There are many bus trips that you can add to your itinerary. The most convenient way to travel to the Blue Mountains from Sydney is a 2-hour train connection, but there is also an excellent bus service from the city. Moreover, you can travel by bus to the Northern Beaches, and it’s a 1.5-hour bus trip along the coast with stops to all the main places up to Palm Beach. You can go to the Royal National Park , in a 30-minute train ride and ferry connection. And in 2 hours by bus or train you can get to Wollongong  too.
  •   Port Macquarie from Sydney This beautiful coastal town lies halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, and the best way to get there is the bus route. There is a train service too, with a bus connection to Port Macquarie . It’s a pleasant journey and a great opportunity to see much of the countryside.
  • From Brisbane to Byron Bay This destination is on the itinerary of many travellers backpacking around Australia. There is a bus service that takes you there in 2 hours. Or you can catch the train to the Gold Coast for a first stop and then travel further to Lismore to catch the bus connection to Byron Bay . From Brisbane , you can also travel by bus to Hervey Bay, Fraser Island , or stop there and visit the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast of Australia .
  • The South East Coast of Australia by bus On my first solo trip, I travelled nearly 5000 km by bus and did all of the South East Coast . Not all destinations are covered by bus, though it did not serve Jervis Bay then. However, the coastal towns of Batesman Bay, Narooma, Merimbula, Lakes Entrance and more are on this bus route.
  • From Cairns to Sydney This is probably one of the most popular bus routes in Australia. For this bus journey, you need 2-3 weeks, and there are many interesting places to see along the Eastern coast. I covered this distance by Greyhound buses from Cairns to Sydney in 2004 and loved it. You can travel the other way, from Sydney to Cairns and then fly out to your next destination.
  • Darwin to Kununurra This is a long trip of over 800 km across the border between the Northern Territory and Western Australia. I travelled this route a couple of times in both directions. The bus service is cheaper than flying and a great way to see the Outback landscape south of Darwin . If you have time, you can keep travelling by bus from Kununurra across the Kimberley region on the night bus service that takes you to Broome by covering nearly 2200 km.
  • Brisbane to Cunnamulla If you want some of the real Outback in Australia then Cunnamulla is one of those places you must see. From the East Coast , you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape. There are three bus and train services to this fantastic Outback destination. I went by train on the Westlander Train. It’s a long journey, but it’s worth it.

Bus travel websites in Australia

Next to the bus company Greyhound – the largest regional bus network in Oz – there are many smaller regional bus companies. These operate their services intrastate to almost any place in the immediate surroundings of towns or major cities.

If you have time and can consider travelling by bus for a long time, then getting an Australian bus pass from Greyhound is the way to save money on transportation in Australia. While you can check single train and bus companies, you can get an overview of train and bus networks nationwide.

A Guide to Long Term Travel in Australia

I didn’t realize that there was a good bus network in Australia. For some reason I imagined that everyone flew from one place to another. We’re hoping to visit next year as I’ve never been.

Rocky Travel Australia December 15, 2016 @ 6:40 pm

Flying is the fastest and preferred way of getting around Australia by most Aussies. For visitors flying is not ideal, as you will not be able to see much of the country. If you travel with your partner, you may like self-driving and go on road trips. Australia is a country for road-tripping! Domestic flights help cover longer distances across Australia; public transportation is the way to go when touring Australian cities and their surroundings! I hope you will make it to Australia soon!

Awesome places! Great tips for road trips! After reading this blog, I want to to visit Australia once by bus trip.

Your last-minute guide to Monday's total solar eclipse

Photo Illustration: The phases of a total solar eclipse

A total solar eclipse will cross North America on Monday , offering millions a rare opportunity to see afternoon skies temporarily darken as the moon blocks the face of the sun.

Tune into NBC News NOW as Lester Holt hosts a two-hour special at 2 p.m. ET Monday from Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The eclipse's path fortuitously cuts across Mexico, 15 U.S. states and a small part of eastern Canada. In all other states in the continental U.S., viewers will be treated to a partial solar eclipse, with the moon appearing to take a bite out of the sun and obscuring part of its light.

Here’s everything you need to know about the rare celestial event.

What is a solar eclipse?

Solar eclipses occur when the sun, moon and Earth align. The moon passes between Earth and sun, temporarily blocking the sun’s light and casting a shadow on Earth.

A total solar eclipse is when the moon fully obscures the sun, whereas a partial solar eclipse means it blocks just a portion of the sun’s face.

Solar eclipses occur only with the new moon. Because the moon’s orbit around Earth is tilted, the three bodies don’t always line up in a way that creates an eclipse.

“Imagine if the moon’s orbit were in the plane of Earth’s orbit around the sun — if that were the case, then every new moon, you’d have a total solar eclipse and every full moon, you’d have a lunar eclipse,” Neil DeGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, told NBC News. “So, because things don’t always align, it lends to the rarity of the event and the specialness of the event.”

Where and when will the eclipse be visible?

This year’s eclipse will follow a slightly wider path over more populated areas of the continental U.S. than other total solar eclipses have in the recent past.

NASA estimates that 31.6 million people live within what’s known as the path of totality, where the total solar eclipse will be visible. An additional 150 million people live within 200 miles of the path, according to the agency.

The path travels through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Tiny parts of Michigan and Tennessee will also be able to witness totality if conditions are clear.

After the eclipse crosses into Canada, it will pass over southern Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton, at the eastern end of Nova Scotia.

Those outside the path of totality can still take part in the astronomical event by viewing a partial solar eclipse — visible throughout all 48 states of the contiguous U.S. — or a NASA livestream.

The timing, including how long totality lasts, depends on the location, but some spots will see the moon fully cover the sun for up to 4 minutes and 28 seconds.

Below is a list of timings for some cities along the path of totality, as  provided by NASA . A number of other resources, including NationalEclipse.com  and  TimeandDate.com , can also help people plan.

  • Dallas: Partial eclipse begins at 12:23 p.m. CT and totality at 1:40 p.m.
  • Little Rock, Arkansas: Partial eclipse begins at 12:33 p.m. CT and totality at 1:51 p.m.
  • Cleveland: Partial eclipse begins at 1:59 p.m. ET and totality at 3:13 p.m.
  • Buffalo, New York: Partial eclipse begins at 2:04 p.m. ET and totality at 3:18 p.m.
  • Lancaster, New Hampshire: Partial eclipse begins at 2:16 p.m. ET and totality at 3:27 p.m.

This composite image of thirteen photographs shows the progression of a total solar eclipse

How to safely view a solar eclipse

It is never safe to gaze directly at the sun, even when it is partly or mostly covered by the moon. Special eclipse glasses or  pinhole projectors  are required to safely view solar eclipses and prevent eye damage. Failing to take the proper precautions can result in severe eye injury,  according to NASA .

Eclipse glasses are thousands of times darker than normal sunglasses and specially made to enable wearers to look at the sun during these kinds of celestial events.

Sky-watchers should also never view any part of the sun through binoculars, telescopes or camera lenses unless they have specific solar filters attached. Eclipse glasses should not be used with these devices, as they will not provide adequate protection.

However, during the few minutes of totality, when the moon is fully blocking the sun, it is safe to look with the naked eye.

Image: Tyler Hanson

Beware of fake eclipse glasses. On legitimate pairs, the lenses should have a silver appearance on the front and be black on the inside. The manufacturer’s name and address should be clearly labeled, and they should not be torn or punctured. Check, as well, for the ISO logo and the code “IS 12312-2” printed on the inside.

If you don’t have eclipse glasses, you can make a homemade pinhole projector, which lets sunlight in through a small hole, focuses it and projects it onto a piece of paper, wall or other surface to create an image of the sun that is safe to look at.

All you need is two pieces of white cardboard or plain white paper, aluminum foil and a pin or thumbtack. Cut a 1- to 2-inch square or rectangle out of the center of a piece of white paper or cardboard. Tape aluminum foil over that cut-out shape, then use a pin or thumbtack to poke a tiny hole in the foil.

During the eclipse, place a second piece of white paper or cardboard on the ground as a screen and hold the projector with the foil facing up and your back to the sun. Adjusting how far you hold the projector from the second piece of paper will alter the size of the image on the makeshift screen.

What to look for while viewing the total solar eclipse

For people along the path of totality, there are some fun milestones to keep track of as the total solar eclipse unfolds.

As the eclipse progresses and the sun gets thinner in the sky, it will start to get eerily dark, according to Tyson.

The "diamond ring effect" is shown following totality of the solar eclipse at Palm Cove in Australia's Tropical North Queensland in 2012.

When the last beams of sunlight are about to become obscured, look out for the “diamond ring effect”: The sun’s atmosphere will appear as an illuminated halo, and the last light still visible will look like the diamond of a giant ring.

As the sunlight decreases even further, an effect known as Baily’s beads will be created by the moon’s rugged terrain. Tiny “beads” of light will be visible for only a few seconds around the dark moon, as the last bits of sunlight peer through the moon’s mountains and valleys.

When the moon is fully blocking the sun, it is safe to remove eclipse glasses and look at the total solar eclipse with the naked eye.

The Bailey's Beads effect is seen as the moon makes its final move over the sun during the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017 above Madras, Oregon.

Some lucky sky-watchers may even catch a glimpse of a comet .

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks — nicknamed the “ devil comet ” because an eruption last year left it with two distinct trails of gas and ice in the shape of devil horns — is currently visible from the Northern Hemisphere as it swings through the inner solar system.

The comet can be seen in the early evenings by gazing toward the west-northwest horizon. During the eclipse, when skies darken during totality, it may be possible to see the comet near Jupiter, but its visibility will depend on whether it’s in the middle of an outburst and thus brighter than normal.

Most likely, all eyes will be on the alignment of the moon and sun.

“Most people won’t even notice,” Tyson said. “But if you know to look, it’s there.”

When is the next solar eclipse?

The next total solar eclipse will be in 2026, but it will mostly pass over the Arctic Ocean, with some visibility in Greenland, Iceland, Portugal and northern Spain. In 2027, a total solar eclipse will be visible in Spain and a swath of northern Africa.

The next total solar eclipse visible from North America will be in 2033, but only over Alaska. Then in 2044, a total solar eclipse will cross Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, parts of Canada and Greenland.

Premiere: Parisian Techno Innovator Shlømo Shares Sledgehammer Banger “I’m Not Done Yet”

The new slammer marks the DJ/producer’s return to his label Taapion Records.

Having spent much of 2023 working under the Vipa Diva alias and collaborating with producers like Vladimir Cauchemar, KRL MX and Peligre, Parisian techno legend Shaun Baron-Carvais returns to his Shlømo moniker and his own label, Taapion Records.

A prolific producer with an output that couldn’t be more varied. Though just as likely to release an inward-looking, calming piece of electronica, for his new single “I’m Not Done Yet”, he’s gone right to the opposite end of the spectrum for a full-on nosebleed techno slammer.

As intense and unforgiving as they come, it’s not for the faint of heart, this is Shlømo at his energetic best and a hell of a way to return to his label.
