Cruising Experience with Genting Dream by Dream Cruises

Check out my experience on board with Genting Dream Cruise – what activities you can do, restaurants to try, and list of entertainments including shows and casino!

I did the cruising twice, one was 5D4N Singapore – Surabaya – North Bali – Singapore , the second one was 3D2N cruising from Singapore – Port Klang – Singapore .

When was the last time I did cruising, nearly 18 years ago!

Yep, I was still a little kid at that time.

I could only recall a few things, things that of course a kid would love – swimming pool, circus, and casino.

Wait, casino? How was a kid supposed to know about casino?

Easy, that’s where my parents would go right after me and my siblings fell asleep.

And now, 18 years later, I had a chance to be back on cruise again – this time with Genting Dream Cruise .

So, let’s jump in to my Genting Dream Cruise review!

Getting on Board with Genting Dream Cruise

Entering the port, I saw this big building on distance, and it wasn’t a building.

It’s the ship that I’m going to board, man it’s huge!

The port was busy, with guests from the cruise hopping down on shore to get souvenirs or just to stay on land.

While some other local audiences just hang around the port to marvel this big ship, something that can be rarely seen.

We cleared the registration ( make sure you bring your passport ) and headed up to the room.

I had a double room with a balcony outside . It’s bigger than I thought.

The bed was super comfy, seriously I had perfect sleep throughout the night.

There’s a sofa to lay down when I’m not wearing my pajamas, complete set of sandals and bathrobes, oh and I love their shower gel, smells good.

The little balcony is perfect to chill or to watch sunset.

I’m super ready to explore Genting Dream Cruise!

Eat while you can

One of a friend told me; before you start cruising, measure your weight and after you’re back home, you’ll be surprised!

Now I understand why.

There’s no way to not stuffing yourself with all these yummy food.

With restaurants serving high quality food, ranging from Asian to Western Cuisine, you’ll forget all your dietaries rule and, just feed yourself.

The inclusive restaurants in Genting Dream are Lido Restaurant and Dream Dining Room .

Lido Restaurant serves more varieties of food with buffet style while Dream Dining Room serves Chinese cuisine.

I had my breakfast normally in these restaurants.

The other restaurants that I also tried were the Hotpot, Bistro by Mark Best, Blue Lagoon, and Umi Uma .

If I had to choose one of my favorite restaurants ,  I think I’ll go for Bistro by Mark Best and Umi Uma ( sorry, I can’t decide between these two ).

I think the food at the Bistro is just on another level for fine dining.

The tenderloin steak was soft and juicy with seasoning on point and the mouth-watering matcha mousse just melt when you take a spoon of it.

Thinking of it now makes me regret, why didn’t I order more food?

My other favorite restaurant in Genting Dream Cruise is Umi Uma Restaurant .

You can guess from its name that it’s a Japanese Restaurant, meaning that there’ll be sushi, sashimi, bento, udon ( I love them all!).

The highlight of this restaurant is the teppanyaki performance .

You’ll be sitting around a table with a chef cooking right on your face.

The chefs are very entertaining.

They pull off some fun attractive moves such as singing, juggling, like, spinning the eggs and throw them to the chef’s hat while cooking your food.

I really enjoy the interactions between the chefs and the guests, the atmosphere in the restaurant is full of excitement.

You definitely have to go to Umi Uma.

Other activities and entertainments in Genting Dream Cruise

Frankly, I was thinking what could I do inside the ship for such a long time.

But after all the experiences in Genting Dream Cruise, clearly there’s nothing to worry about.

There are so many things to do and you won’t get bored for sure.

Again, the ship is huge. Sometimes I still forgot the direction back to my room.

Let’s have a look what’s inside Genting Dream, shall we?

1. Zodiac Theater

Every night there will be show scheduled in Zodiac Theater.

With shimmering outfits and stage, the talented performers will stun you with their dancing skills and acrobatic movements.

Voyage of the Lovers Dream is a must to watch in Genting Dream Cruise.

The theatrical show will take you to a fantasy world of the unique love story between the mermaid and the astronaut.

Some dances can be powerful, some features remarkable ballet moves. For me it’s a night to remember.

2. The Bridge Tour

See what it’s like to be on a captain seat with the Bridge Tour.

The Bridge is the most important area of the ship where the captain and his officers control and ensure that the ship runs safely on the sea.

The crew, as a guide will explain how to see the numbers on screen telling the depth of the sea, the speed, etc.

You may also have a conversation with the friendly officers.

3. Pool, Water Slide, and Sportplex

Pool and sportplex area always get busy during the day.

There’s always be activities prepared by the crew such as games, aerobic, and many more.

I didn’t try the water slide but I bet it’s gonna be fun.

There’s even a basketball court on the ship! I did the wall-climbing, rope course, and the flying-fox.

The flying-fox is one of my best experience on the ship, it’s nerve-wrecking.

Imagine you’re zip-lining from one end to another with wide open sea below, and it’s like 35 meters high!

4. Crystal Life Fitness and Spa

You may eat a lot but at least gotta burn some calories, agree?

Head to the Crystal Life Fitness Center in Genting Dream Cruise and do some cardio workout or weight-lifting, even better.

Believe me, doing workout facing the sea is not things you can do regularly, except on the cruise-so make it count!

Then you can spoil yourself with the spa treatment, what a life!

5. Bar Hopping!

Need a bit of alcohol intake to make yourself a bit more relax?

Bars are just on every corner of Dream Cruise.

If you’d like to drink while getting your tan line under the sun then Pool Deck Bar or Sun Deck Bar is the place for you.

Champagne lovers? Straight to the Bubbles Champagne Bar .

I prefer the Johnnie Walker House as a fan of whisky ( sounds like an old man, eh ).

Look at this gorgeous Whisky Constellation Wall, offering a comprehensive index of Scotch whisky distilleries.

6. Zouk Club and Zouk Beach Club

Surprisingly, my favorite club, Zouk is inside the Genting Dream.

I was a regular at the Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur and knowing that there’s another Zouk inside the cruise reminds me of that old nights.

The DJs were great, also the lights and lasers are sick, surely meet the Zouk’s standard.

If you wanna chill a bit you can go next door to play bowling or billiard.

Another best moment in the Dream Cruise.

7. Genting Casino

Like my parents, cruising is a fun way to spend your money and bet for your luck in the casino.

Get the chips ready and hit the table, who knows you’ll bring a suitcase of dollars back home.

I don’t really see many tables on board. However, there’re some slot machines that you can play with.

The minimum bet for casino tables in Genting Dream Cruise ranges between SGD 100 – 200 .

For the machines, it shouldn’t cost that much, maybe around SGD 10 .

8. Party and Fireworks

The last night on the ship was full of blast! Everyone’s just dancing and had fun in the main pool deck.

No matter young or old, people just dance to the music and follow the movements by the crew on the stage, like a flashmob.

Looks like everyone enjoying their time, including me.

Before calling it a night, we watched the fireworks on the sea and time for sweet dreams.

Second time with Genting Dream Cruise

Far flung in the middle of the sea, a ship – immensely built and designed to award holiday-seekers with its most luxurious experience – sailed across the Malacca Strait from Singapore to Malaysia.

The art piece on the both sides of the vessel is tastefully crafted to leave a strong impression to anyone who lays eyes on it.

Genting Dream Cruise Singapore , set on its journey to entertain more than 3,000 passengers on board, including myself.

That could be a nice narrative for an intro or trailer of a movie, can you imagine that? haha .

I think I’m trying to hard to put a nice words – which I love to try for learning and practicing my writing.

So, recently I just had a trip with Genting Dream Cruise ( again! ) and I’m very excited to share it with you guys.

As you might have known, this was my second time, as always, it never failed to please me.

My Genting Dream Cruise Singapore Experience: Enroute Singapore – Port Klang – Singapore

The route that I had this time was an easy and fun 3D2N, cruising from Singapore to Port Klang and back to Singapore .

It’s also the most popular since it’s do-able for weekend trip.

Once I arrived at Marina Bay Cruise Centre , the giant ship was waiting calmly before embarking to its destination, Port Klang in Malaysia.

I couldn’t stop myself from admiring, even though it’s not my first time – either Genting Dream Cruise is too good-looking, or maybe I just missed her.

Same procedure, checking-in, clearing the immigration and custom, and lastly getting on board!

I won’t really go into details this time, cause I’ve written about it on my last post.

It’ll be more about my experience and things that I had not experience before, let’s get started!

Privacy at The Palace Suite

One thing that I noticed being in a large cruise ship was, obviously, in contact with a bee-swarm of other passengers who would likely use the facilities provided.

It can be quite overwhelming for those who prefer to enjoy the cruise peacefully.

Elevate your cruising experience by staying in The Palace – part boutique hotel, part private clubhouse – meticulously shaped to ensure absolute comfort.

Indulge in between these four different types of room or suite in The Palace: Palace Suite, Palace Deluxe Suite, Palace Penthouse, and Palace Villa .

An additional benefit for staying at The Palace is the exclusive facilities, privately accessible only for The Palace’s guests including the swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym, even dining area.

On the second day on Genting Dream Cruise, we had a chance to explore the swimming pool area, no one was there.

It might be too early for people to swim at that time but it’s  a good timing for us to hit every corner and get the best angle to capture nice picture.

If only I had the whole day just relaxing, putting all the itineraries prepared for us on the side, I probably could spend the rest of the day swimming and sun-bathing here on this deck.

There are two jacuzzis just right in the front facing the ocean.

The sun, blue sky, ocean, and fancy cruise, couldn’t ask for a better way to enjoy life!

Dine, Spa, and Entertainment in Genting Dream Cruise

One thing I worried the most, and I knew it would be hard for me to handle while I was with Genting Dream Cruise.

Guess what? It’s to hold the temptation to eat all the food served at the restaurants.

Every time I stepped into a restaurant, I needed to remind myself to control my eating, or else all the diet and workouts that I had done would be useless.

You all know what happened next, don’t you? Screw the diet, I’m on holiday!

The sound of clattering spatula hitting the iron plate table jumbled with the sizzling sound of the ingredients.

Occasionally, a gleeful voice shouting in a high pitch jacked up the chaos inside the room, a good chaos.

Umi Uma Restaurant was filled with happiness, laughter, and admiration thanks to the Kungfu Chef.

Here in Uma Umi Restaurant, the food that you order will be made on spot by the chef.

On top of that, with a good sense of humor, the chef entertains everyone as a starter before the food is served and enjoyed.

I ordered the Dream Ocean from the menu, the shrimp and scallop are the rock star, served with fried rice, miso soup, and refreshing salad.

I finished everything to the last bite.

That was my first sin, the second one was lunch at Bistro by Mark Best – which wasn’t so bad in a way – that the portion was still acceptable for my diet.

It’s a fine dining anyway, a small but punching food could take me literally to heaven, cause it’s so yum!

First, they brought us a basket of bread and a plate full of salami and prosciutto.

Next, for the appetizer, a bowl of thick cauliflower soup with a drop of caviar, all the flavor exploded in my mouth!

Then the main came, pan-seared cod  with a special creamy puree and to wrap everything up, a delicate green tea cake.

Meanwhile, when we had a bit of free time, exploring the cruise on our own was the only thing to do, better than staying inside the room.

Deck 16 and 17 were the area in Genting Dream Cruise that we hung around the most.

It’s the open area and for sure, people would love to enjoy the sun and do outdoor activities.

Everything is free to use, from swimming pool, playground, flying fox, basketball court, and outdoor beach club.

I did try a one-hour massage here in Crystal Life Spa .

The appearance of the furniture, decoration, and the choice of color was very nice, soft and relaxing.

Before entering the room, a form was given to me and I could choose which part of my body would get more attention later on, I chose neck and shoulder, my favorite area.

The full body massage began from my back, down to my legs, and ended up with a massage in my head.

It was good, the masseuse was attentive and questioned if the strength was good enough.

I fell asleep not long before the massage finished.

In my previous trip with Genting Dream Cruise, I didn’t get the chance to watch China Got Talent .

That’s why I was very excited to see the show.

It felt like we’re the audience and the judges were projected on big screen, giving comments to the performers. Some acts were thrilling, some were creative.

It goes without saying, all these performers show their best talent to entertain everyone on board.

Go watch them yourself, I don’t wanna be a spoiler!

Sadly, everything has come to an end. Three days were too quick.

I definitely wanna check other routes by Genting Dream Cruise, maybe to Japan, or Thailand.

Or maybe it’s sister cruise, World Dream Cruise, will see!

(Genting Dream Cruise) 14 Reasons You Should Board This Cruise Ship

Have you been on the Genting Dream cruise? If you have not, here is a brief introduction to the brand new elevated experience, where you can enjoy sailing on the  19 floors cruise ship!

Genting Dream is one of the 3 cruise tours offered in the Dream Cruises line by Resorts World Cruises of Genting Group. The others are *World Dream and Explorer Dream. This cruise ship with the concept of  “A Resort Cruising at Sea'',  measures  335m in length and 40m in width.  With up to  18 decks  and lots of food and fun activities, you can indulge in all the amenities and comfort while at sea!

*Update: World Dream ceased operation on 2 March 2022 and Explorer Dream was renamed Resorts World One 

However, some of the entertainment and services here are not included in the all-inclusive offerings and require extra charges. So make sure to fatten up your wallet before coming. Without further ado, let’s dive into the  14 reasons you should board the Genting Dream.

Super Huge 

The Genting Dream cruise ship can accommodate up to  3,352 passengers (lower berth) with 1,674 staterooms.  During the day, adrenaline junkies can work out on the decks while kids can play at the playground. At 🌛night, guests can watch performances or up their game by betting on bingo games.

Comfy Rooms

Surprisingly, the smallest rooms on the Genting Dream are  not as small as many of us would expect  (imagine Jack’s room on the Titanic) from a cruise ship. They are comfortable enough for you to move around and stretch out and  can accommodate up to 4 guests at a time.  Plus, each room on the cruise comes with a  private toilet and shower!

There are also  light refreshments  in the form of sachets like ☕coffee and 🍵tea, just in case you are too lazy to go out for a drink.  2 bottles of mineral water  are also provided and will be replenished each day for free (we just love the word “free” don’t we?) 

On top of that, the  pillows and blankets  will give you a hard time 😴waking up. They are  very comfy,  and if you have stayed in any of the Genting Group hotels before, you’ll know. The same pillows and beddings are also used in the Genting Dream.

Cashless Everywhere!

Some of the services, activities and facilities on the Genting Dream are not included in your cruise fee, and you'll have to pay on the cruise ship itself. One good thing is that you can  pay without  💵 cash!  All you need is a card, and you can have access to all facilities on the Genting Dream! This card is printed with your name and acts as your ID card.

You’ll have to carry it with you all the time (except when in your room) so that you can  tap to access the services, activities and facilities on the cruise ship.  You can keep track of how much you’ve spent on the 📺small tv in the room and then pay with your credit/debit card by scanning the QR code provided. Alternatively, you can make your payment at the reception on the 6th floor, but it is pretty obvious which is more convenient.

Halal Certified Food

Genting Dream is the first in the world to be  OIC/SMIIC standard  🧕 halal-friendly certified cruise.  The Lido provides an  extensive range of international cuisines,  and all of them are halal. You can enjoy everything served here as much as you want in a single meal period, for free! This buffet spread also  has a vegetarian section  for all the plant eaters to enjoy.

Never-Ending Eating

One thing about eating all these  free meals on Genting Dream  is that you can only eat at 1 restaurant per meal period. So let’s say you ate at The Lido for lunch, you can’t eat at another free-to-eat restaurant for lunch (unless you pay, of course). You’ll have to wait until it’s dinner time for that.

If you get hungry in between the main meals but don’t want to pay to eat at the specialty restaurants, the  Lido Outdoor Snack Corner  is such a lifesaver! It is a  24-hour free-flow station with snacks  like samosa, 🍟french fries, sausage and fried bee hoon! There are even drinks like 🍵tea, ☕coffee and 🧃juices, in case you want to sip on something other than the mineral water in your room.

Of course, not to forget the  non-halal restaurants  for all the  haram eaters  non-muslims. Free-to-eat meals can be found at the  Dream Dining.  The Dream Dining Room(upper) is dedicated to serving Chinese set meals, whereas the Dream Dining (lower) serves semi-buffet western meals.

Pro-Tip:  Come and queue early to get the sea view table! It is open 10 mins earlier than the allocated time.

Moving Casino on The Sea

Genting Dream is literally a moving 🎲casino on the sea! If you are a  kaki judi,  you are welcome to  test your fortune  with some games of bingo, pull some 🎰slot machines or play some 🀄mahjong. As you are not spending any 💸physical money,  make sure to spend your money wisely and don’t get too greedy!

Family-Friendly Pool & Water Slides

On a hot 🌞sunny day, you can swim in the pool to cool off. There are  shallow pool areas where  👧👦 kids can have a fun time  💦splashing at each other too! For the 👱‍♂️👱‍♀️young uns who prefer something more extreme than mere swimming and dipping in the pool, you guys can try out the  water slides.  There are  6 water slides  with different levels of extremity on the cruise depending on how  adventurous  you are. 

On the other hand, the 🧓 elderly can relax in the jacuzzi  while watching the young people playing at the pool. Are these free? Yes! On Genting Dream, there are 4 jacuzzis around the main pool on Deck 16 MID and 2 jacuzzis at Zouk Beach Club on Deck 17 AFT. 

However, just like any other outdoor activities on the Genting Dream, the  pool and water slides are subject to  ☔ weather changes.  So if you are unable to enjoy these activities, read on to find out what other things you can do on this cruise.

Happy Kids Happy Parents

Besides the shallow pool area, kids can also spend time bouncing here and there at the bouncy playground on Genting Dream.  Kids the age of 2 to 12 can get themselves busy at the Little Dreamers Club.  There are lots of toys for 🧒kids to play with while parents can enjoy the beautiful sea view. This place is free but only for the first 2 hours. Are your kids able to resist the temptation of staying within 2 hours?

Keep-Fit Journey Sailing Smooth

There are  lots of activities here to help you keep   💪fit and healthy  while on the Genting Dream cruise. You can pay for professional fitness classes like pilates, HIIT (step), suspension training, etc or get active for free with activities like jogging (there is a jogging track around the cruise), ⛳mini golf, 🧗‍♀️rock climbing (wall) and many more. Again, like any other  outdoor activities, some of them are subject to weather changes.

Pro-Tip:  Make sure to check the itinerary to see what programs are available for the day.

Endless Activities Throughout The Day

If you are not a very active person and would like to join some less strenuous activities on the cruise, there is an  arcade  as well as  Nintendo Switch games, workshops, family show time  and more. Remember to check the itinerary for the time slot of your desired activities and register in advance.

Spend a Few Hours on The Land

Come on! You are not Davy Jones! Of course, you can  enjoy beautiful sights and eat good food outside of the sea.  It all depends on which tour you book. The cruise ship will  dock at the designated jetty,  and off you go! You are  free to explore the towns,  as long as you return within the given ⌚time. If not, we’re afraid that you’ll have to say 👋bye-bye to the Genting Dream.

If you plan to explore a town that is not in the country you came from, you’ll have to  bring along your passport  and go through the 🛃custom security check before you can leave the 🚢cruise.

At night, you can head to the  Zouk Beach Club  and enjoy the iconic Zouk’s Foam Party! You can 🕺 dance crazily to the funky music in a pool of foam.  There will also be ice cream and drinks for everyone to enjoy. Make sure to register in advance.

The Night is Still Early

Why sleep when there are so many activities that can keep you awake on the cruise? Besides the Zouk Beach Club, there are also 💃dance lessons, 🎤karaoke, 🎳ten-pin bowling, live shows and many more. If you want to just sit around and relax, there is an outdoor cinema on deck 17 AFT, and it’s free!

If you want to up the game to make it more haram, you can head to one of the m any bars and lounges  and order your favourite 🍹cocktail or 🍺beer. Not only that, if you are someone who has an alcohol reservoir in the stomach, you might want to consider taking one of the  bottomless beverage packages.

Shop Til You Drop

There are  many shops on Genting Dream  offering high-end fashion and quality food & supplements from overseas.  Look out for discounts on goods on your itinerary.  You’ll not want to miss out on the good deals and value buys.

Who says you can’t be out in the sea during the monsoon season? Genting Dream is one of your best options to do so. The cruise is so huge that  you won’t feel much  🤢 turbulence.  In fact, many people reportedly felt no difference with being on land. We hope that these  14 reasons you should board on the Genting Dream  are enough to make you want to jump on the cruise right away!

Before you set sail, here are some pre-boarding essentials to take note of:

1) Mandatory online check-in — closes 24 hours before sailing 2) Take a supervised or tele-supervised ART test and present a negative result — earliest one day prior to sailing 3) Fill up a pre-boarding health questionnaire — on the day of sailing 4) Collect your cruise key card — on the day of sailing 5) Check-in via SafeEntry on the TraceTogether app or token — before boarding the ship

What’s New on Genting Dream

This may be the same ship under Dream Cruises but we’ve sussed out the new stuff.

1) Immersive Activities with Performers

This was one thing I really loved about the cruise. Especially when I spotted my on-board dance instructor on the big stage performance just a couple of hours later!

The entertainment organisers wanted to create an immersive experience for guests to “dive” into, so guests could interact with the performers even when they were off stage.

An afterparty was held at the dance floor of Zouk Beach Club so the fun doesn’t end when the performance does.

Unfortunately, my dance instructor recognised us so we couldn’t escape the awkward dancing 😅 but at least we still had a great time!

2) Foam Party at Sea

For those who just want to party (but with an extra kick), here’s a brand new activity: foam party at sea!

Equipped with a giant foam spraying machine, gigantic floats, and water guns, we had a blast blowing foam at each other for two hours and imagining it was snow in hot, humid Singapore.

Don’t worry about the aftermath too. There will be towels provided to help you dry off before you head on to your next activity.

3) World’s First Internationally Halal-certified Kitchen on a Cruise

Genting Dream is not the first cruise ship to serve halal food, but it’s the first with an internationally halal-certified kitchen.

This is based on OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) and SMIIC (The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards. The cruise also holds a vegetarian certification by Global Vegetarian Certification Services.

We even went behind the scenes and discovered that there are dedicated timings and lifts to deliver the food.

From the way the food is prepared and delivered, to the way utensils are washed after — everything is segregated so there is no chance of cross-contamination at all!

While this doesn’t really affect me personally, it helps give my Muslim friends peace of mind when dining on a cruise 🙂.

On-board Activities

Most of the facilities and activities are similar to the previous Dream Cruises, so here’s a recap of what you can expect on this one.

Rain or shine, these are some activities that you can do: arcade, bowling, karaoke, t-shirt or tote bag painting workshops, and workout classes. But prepare to fork out some cash for certain activities.

For example, bowling costs S$10 per game and it’s S$22 to buy a t-shirt to paint on — but at least you’ll get to keep it! We also recommend booking slots for the karaoke room early in advance because demand is really high.

If you’re looking to save a few bucks, try the free workout classes instead! Choose from yoga to a couple of dance classes like funk line dancing, hip hop dance, Brazilian carnival dance, and traditional flamenco dance.

We didn’t have time to try them all so we went for the Brazilian carnival dance where we learned different types of dances like the salsa and samba. It’s a one-hour class so expect a lot of hip-shaking, spinning, and sweating. Remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!

While we can’t splash around in the sea, we can definitely do so at the on-board waterslide park. There are six different slides to choose from — my personal favourite being the donut-shaped slide which opens up mid-way, allowing you a glimpse of the blue sky before diving back to darkness and into the water.

Besides the water slides, there are also pools and hot tubs for you to swim and “chill” in leisurely.

But if you don’t want to get wet, try the ziplines, rock climbing wall, high obstacle course, mini-golf, ping pong, or even giant chess.

You could even set up a friendly basketball match in the SportsPlex too.

Or dance and party your hearts out to popular hits played by DJs all through the night at Zouk Beach Club.

Bonus — Visit the Captain’s Bridge

Before covid hit, there were organised tours to the captain’s bridge — a control room where the captain and his crew navigate the ship.

But due to social distancing restrictions, the tours stopped and we don’t have that luxury anymore. So we were actually glad to discover this hidden gem on board to find out what it’s like!

Head up to deck 15 via the lift (forward lobby) and walk past Crystal Life fitness. Turn left and walk all the way to the end. You’ll find a small, hidden room with a clear view of the captain’s bridge, plus a really cool mini replica of the ship to admire!

Entertainment

Every day, a newsletter would be delivered to your cabin — with various show and programme schedules so you can plan your day to catch them all!

One highlight not to be missed is definitely the Yin.Yang performance at the Zodiac Theatre. It blends eastern and western entertainment, featuring a world-class array of performances from balancing acts to contemporary dances.

I was deeply impressed by one performer in particular, Tong Shaohan, who wowed us with his unique double vocals — singing both female and male parts in a duet.

We were truly shocked, yet in awe when we found out this beautifully dressed lady who sang in a high-pitched voice turned out to be an extremely talented man.

*Pro-tip: Arrive earlier as doors close 10 minutes before showtime and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Apart from the Yin.Yang show, we also had a sneak peek of Dream Boys (which isn’t new), but is set to make a comeback sometime in July.

Dining Experiences

On the Genting Dream, there are more than 20 dining options including restaurants, cafes and bars — not all are free though, so take note!

Inclusive Restaurants — Complimentary

These are the places where you can eat your fill without any charges. 

As mentioned above, Genting Dream has an internationally halal-certified kitchen. However, it’s only limited to food items in The Lido restaurant. 

But don’t fret because there are still plenty of cuisines to choose from, such as Western, Chinese, and even Jain — for vegetarians with a strict diet of not consuming any food produced underground (including potatoes and carrots). 

For other non-halal options, there’s also the Dream Dining Room Lower and Upper which serve Western and Chinese menus respectively.

*Note: Check the daily newsletter for restaurant breakfast, lunch, and dinner timings. You’ll also be charged an extra S$15 for a second meal during the same meal period.

Specialty Restaurants — Charges Apply

The food might be more pricey (from S$60), but speaking from experience, it’s really worth it! During our time on the cruise, we tried two specialty restaurants: Umi Uma (Japanese teppanyaki ) and Bistro (Western).

We ordered the Emperor (steak and seafood) and Samurai (chicken and salmon) set from Umi Uma where the chef cooked our dishes before us. The meat was cooked perfectly and not chewy at all! The salmon also had a flavourful, buttery taste 😋.

At Bistro, we had a full four-course meal with a seafood salad appetiser, pumpkin soup, and a choice of seafood tower or braised beef cheeks, before ending it off with some sweet panna cotta!  

Other dining places include Silk Road Chinese Restaurant, Hot Pot, Lido Outdoor Hotpot and Grill, and Crystal Life Cuisine.

*Pro-tip: Reserve in advance as restaurants can be fully booked during peak hours.

Cafes and Bars — Charges Apply

Besides restaurants, you can grab some light meals at cafes like Lobby Cafe and Blue Lagoon, or even cool down at Gelateria with some homemade gelato.

There are also various bars all around the cruise for alcohol-lovers — open all day till late. Check out Bar 360 for drinks and live music, Mixt for its innovative cocktails, or Tributes which has indoor and outdoor seating coupled with entertaining performances.

Accommodation

Genting Dream offers various room options, from balcony to oceanview staterooms and even palace suites.

Balcony Deluxe Stateroom

We stayed in a Balcony Deluxe Stateroom which consisted of a queen-sized bed, a large sofa, a bathroom, and of course, a balcony overlooking the sea. To be honest, I was really surprised by how spacious the room is.

We were also lucky to find a bathtub in our bathroom (apparently, not every room has it) and the dual-tap sink was way bigger than the one in my home.

But the best part of the room would have to be the balcony — where we got a gorgeous view of the sunrise.

Cost: From ~S$550/pax for three nights

Palace Suite

We didn’t have time to tour the Palace Suite but this is what it’ll look like:

It looks pretty similar to the Balcony Deluxe Stateroom, but the private balcony is twice as big! Staying in a palace suite also gives guests certain perks like access to exclusive restaurants and programmes, as well as a 24-hour butler service 😏.

Cost: From ~S$1,100/pax for three nights

Is Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream Worth Checking Out?

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been on a cruise (I’m talking about 10 years ago-long), so I was really excited to just hop onto a ship once again!

I was glad that the water slides still remained and I could have fun like a kid again without any reserve. Being older now, I could also appreciate the fine dining experience of a full-course meal and of course, drinking alcohol 🍷.

The halal-certified food also didn’t taste any different from usual and I stuffed myself with plenty of different options. The highlight of my cruise though was interacting with the performers when they weren’t on stage and discovering more about their culture.

Fun fact: Do you know why Brazilians dance so well? According to my Brazilian dance instructor, Gabrielle, most kids there start learning from 10 years old!

With Resorts World Cruises as a new cruise line, we now have more options to set sail from Singapore’s ports. Although we didn’t dock anywhere this time, the automatic time change when we were near Indonesia made us feel like we were overseas.

The Cruise Customer Service needs lots of improvement. Any inquiries made after reservation will not be entertained on thier hotline. They will direct you to the email inquiry. Any inquries made via the email enquiries were not responded despite they advised they will get back within 72 hrs. Overall is a disappointing experience before i even cruise with them

My family enjoys going on a cruise. I’ve been on a cruise getaway almost every consecutive year since I was 7 till I was in my teens and started realising that hanging out with my friends in malls is way cooler. Since then, I’ve never stepped onboard a cruise till two weeks ago. I guess going on a cruise is the next best thing to a staycation during this pandemic.

Even though it was my first time on Dream Cruises , I felt like I knew what to expect onboard the ship. You could say that I was rather well-prepared for the trip because my parents went several times with Dream cruises before and during the pandemic. They told me that it was as enjoyable and true enough, it isn’t a very fantastic trip even though everyone on social media is hyping about how fun it is to be on a cruise.

Nonetheless, I can’t deny the fact that it felt good to just step off the island and get out into the sea. So I wouldn’t discourage anybody from doing sea-cation but if you want to, here are 7 things you need to know before you go on a cruise with Dream Cruises.

1. You can check in earlier than the given timing by Dream Cruises.

I’m not sure if Genting Dream Cruises will hate me for telling you this but you can actually head to the cruise centre to do the COVID-19 test earlier than your scheduled timings. I was scheduled for the test at 5.45 pm but I went to take my test around 12 pm. And regulars who have been to this cruise many times would also come way ahead of others.

The benefits of boarding the cruise early are plenty. You can get your lunch onboard at one of their inclusive restaurants (since your Dream Cruises ticket is inclusive of all meals onboard) or speciality restaurants (where you have to pay to dine). On top of that, you will have time to make reservations for the use of pools, gyms and other facilities. Given that most of us would have forked out hundreds of dollars for the cruise getaway, why not make your money’s worth by heading there early?

2. Be prepared to wait for a period of time before you go onboard.

If you’re not staying at one of their Palace suites, then do be prepared to wait and queue. When you reach Marina Bay Cruise centre, you have to head up to level 2 to deposit your luggage (if you wish to) and then head up to do your COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test (ART). The whole screening test took about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the crowd. Since we went there early, the waiting time isn’t very long. Within 5 minutes, we were asked to head to one of the booths to do the swab test.

After the test, we were ushered to the waiting area to wait for our results. Health Promotion Board will first notify you via your TraceTogether app before you receive the SMS notification.

After the test, you still got to queue to check in. They will check your passports and issue you the Tracey token which you must carry with you at all times. The boarding time is approximately 2 pm so we still have to wait for our turn to get on board. By the time, when it was our turn, it was already 2.30 pm.

Thus I would suggest bringing some things to do there in order to kill time. You can read a book or catch up with some work in the waiting area. They will also hand out their daily schedule or newsletter when you can find out what the events happening that day onboard. You can spend the time planning what you would like to do.

3. The food at Dream Cruises inclusive restaurants is not that great so be prepared to pay if you want better quality food.

Your Dream Cruises ticket is inclusive of all meals but you can only enjoy your ‘free meals’ at their inclusive restaurants like Dream Dining Room Lower (Western food), Dream Dining Room Upper (Chinese food) and the Lido (International buffet). We prefer dining at the Lido because you can try a variety of food. However, they are some hits and misses. I would say the food there is average but at least, you get to try some spicy food from the halal section or Indian food at their vegetarian section. Somehow the breakfast nasi lemak there tastes pretty good. Do try it!

If you did not already know, Dream Cruises is a halal-friendly cruise with halal dining options. Currently, the halal food section is only available at The Lido and the snack bar. There is also a prayer room on Deck 5.

As for the beverages, they serve syrup processed juices. If you want quality drinks like a glass of fresh fruit juice or iced lemon tea, you will have to pay extra for it.

The food standard at the Dream Dining Room Lower was especially poor. I think we’ve been served dishes which were made out of cheap ingredients. We did not quite enjoy the western breakfast we had because it was obviously prepared in a haste.

The Chinese food at Dream Dining Room Upper tasted slightly better. That explains why this restaurant is always packed and sometimes you will have to queue to get in. On some occasions, we were asked to head to other restaurants because the restaurant has reached its full capacity.

We heard that the speciality restaurants like Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best and Umi Uma offers great food but we did not want to fork out extra since we have already forked out $500 just for this sea-cation. A more affordable option is to dine at The lobby cafe on Deck 6. They offer several local food dishes and pastries at affordable prices.

4. There’s a 24-hour snack bar and you can pack food to bring to your rooms to eat.

There’s a 24-hour snack bar where you can munch on potato wedges, chicken nuggets, curry puffs, fried bee hoon and other small bites like buns and sandwiches.

They also provide drinks like apple juice, orange juice, coffee, tea and milk. Strangely, I’ve seen several people asking for milk which is dispensed from the machine. It tastes just like UHT milk except that it is cold and a little frothy.

And if you are feeling peckish at night, you can actually ask them to pack so that you can bring it back to the room to eat. By the way, you can also do take-aways for your meals if you want to have your meals in the room. You can call their reception and make a request.

5. The Balcony State Rooms at Dream Cruises are superb and well-furnished.

We got the Balcony Deluxe stateroom which is only slightly bigger than the Balcony stateroom. I believe that there isn’t much of a difference between the rooms except for the size of it.

I can’t complain anything about the room except that the curtains appeared to be quite dusty. Other than that, everything else is great. I love their ultra-comfy mattress and beddings. The ensuite bathroom is well-maintained and very clean. It even has a bathtub!

There’s a small balcony where you can go out to sunbathe. It’s nice to just chill at the balcony and enjoy some quiet time to yourself. You can also hang your laundry there if you intend to wash some of your clothes.

Toiletries like toothbrushes, shampoo, body soap, lotion and hair conditioner are all provided. There’s a hairdryer installed under the dressing table too.

6. You will need to make reservations to use the swimming pools, jacuzzi and gym.

Due to the strict social distancing measures, they can only allow a certain number of people to be using these facilities for a limited period of time. I recommend making your reservations right after you board the ship. Otherwise, you may have to queue just to book a slot. You are only entitled to use the pool or jacuzzi for up to 1 hour per day.

The gym is another popular spot too. It’s usually fully booked and we regret not booking it on the first day. We ended up having to wait until someone leaves so that we can enter the gym. However, I must say that the gym is pretty amazing. It is a state-of-the-art gym equipped with advanced training and exercise equipment. I enjoy using treadmills and other exercise machines but could only stay up to an hour and a half.

As for the pool slides, you just have to queue and wait for your turn. We did not try their slides but judging by what we saw, the slides are only frequented by kids.

7. You can join their free workshops, activities and attend the evening shows.

One of the Dream Cruises highlights is the evening entertainment. There’s usually a magic show or acrobatic performances onboard. At Dream cruise, these shows are held at the Zodiac Theatre on Deck 7. Bookings can be made via their Dream Cruise app. (Do not that the usage of the Dream Cruises app is free of Wi-fi charges.)

In all honesty, I didn’t quite enjoy the shows presented to us. Each show is only 45 minutes long and some parts of it were entertaining and some were not.

As for the workshops and classes, some are complimentary while some require you to pay. The free workshops are popular and they usually get snapped up real first. It’s on a first-come-first-serve basis so you have to arrive about 30 minutes earlier at the location to reserve a spot for yourself. We actually could not take part in some of the workshops because, by the time we reached the venue, it was all fully booked.

Again, it’s all due to the safe distancing measures where they had to keep the group size small. I guess you could say we were utterly disappointed and bored during the trip.

If you want to try out their Rope course, you will also have to queue and wait for your turn. Due to the rain, the attraction wasn’t open for the most part of our trip. Hence, we did not try out the Rope course or the mini-golf.

Another attraction to check out is their Esc Experience Centre which is located on Deck 17. It’s a VR/AR arcade centre and it is equipped with some of the latest gadgets and simulators. However, you will have to pay for the experience. On the last night of the trip, they will usually offer happy hour deal where you can enjoy 2 games at the price of SGD 22.

My Verdict of Dream Cruises

Overall, it was a good getaway for me and my husband but we both did not quite enjoy our trip on board Dream Cruises at all. The long waiting time and queues are the downsides to the whole cruise experience. Service also wasn’t that great idea. I had trouble contacting their reception for help after 8 pm.

When I posted a video of my Dream Cruises experience on TikTok, some of the followers recommended the Royal Caribbean cruise. So we might explore that cruise next time but as for now, we are really hoping to travel across borders soon.

Genting Dream cruise review and survival tips by an indie traveller

Excluding the time I spent a week sailing through the Galapagos Islands , the last time I went on a proper fancy cruise was back when I was a very young child and I remember absolutely nothing from that experience. So tagging along with my family on the Genting Dream cruise over the holiday season was a rather interesting experience for me, and I thought I’d share with you what my cruise experience was like, and some hacks I figured out to make your cruise better (and involve less queuing).

Also – this is not a sponsored post , I wasn’t even planning to write about this trip at all since it’s a family vacation and it’s not my usual style of travel, but I was looking for info on the Genting Dream the day before I departed (wooh for last minute research), and only realised then that this was a pretty new route that launched just a month earlier in late November 2017 and the ship will spend a year with Singapore as its home port . There were pretty mixed reviews from Tripadvisor , so I thought I’d add my voice to the conversation. Also, I’m sure other indie travellers might be in the same boat (hurhur pun) as me and this might help them survive their own vacations a little beter.

I did the 6D5N Island Escapade that followed a route from Singapore to Klang and Penang in Malaysia, and then to Phuket , Thailand before heading back home, my last trip of 2017 . Click on the hyperlinks to see my experiences and recommendations travelling in these areas.

Why would an indie traveller even join a cruise?

I’ve established through my travels that I like to travel in a certain way that I describe as Indie Flashpacker, where I figure out my own travel plans and don’t have much of an itinerary, and while I travel pretty cheaply I’m willing to spend on occasion. But taking a cruise is quite the antithesis of being an Indie Flashpacker, my biggest issue is that it sometimes feels like you are trapped in a Marina Bay Sands Twilight Zone that you can’t escape . Sure, this ginormous ship has 19 decks and planned activities, but it does get stifling after a bit.

And the most important thing about travel for me is being able to explore a place on my own terms and time, and that’s quite difficult to do on a cruise schedule, where you are pretty much limited to very short day/half-day trips every time you are in port. You could do it, but you’ll need to do a lot of prep work to squeeze the most out of your limited time on land. To be fair, I love waking up each morning in a new city or country, and the plus points of not having to squeeze on planes or go through tedious airport security is awesome, but if I wanted to properly visit a place, this is not how I want to do it.

You think being on a somewhat inclusive cruise (I’ll get into why I say ‘somewhat’ further down) means being able to turn your brain off for a bit, but frankly I found having to figure out their schedule sometimes a tad stressful, especially because there are quite limited hours for certain activities, so I couldn’t quite laze around as much as I wanted to if I wanted to get stuff done.

The Genting Dream Survival Guide

Enough of my whinging – regardless of how or why, you’re headed on a cruise, and here’s how you can survive the next few days and actually have yourself a decent time. Read on for more details on my Genting Dream cruise experience as well.

Board early if you can

The Genting Dream is HUGE. And I mean GINORMOUS. The ship has 19 levels, accommodates 3,400 pax and easily towers over any other ship in port with it. Correspondingly there are a massive ton of people trying to board the ship, so boarding early means less arduous queues to suffer through, and if you have luggage, it gets sent up to your room much faster then if you come on board later. Hot tip: pack your essentials in a day bag that you can carry with you so you aren’t stuck waiting for your bags to get sent to your room.

The ship set sail at around 6pm, and the final boarding call time was at 430pm, but we decided to head in much earlier and reached the Marina Bay Cruise Centre at around 12pm. It was about 1pm when they called for our group to board, and about 120pm by the time I put my stuff down in my room. I was definitely quite a lot faster than my sister who had to take her kids through the regular counters while I went through the automated check-in for Singaporeans. There are a lot of foreigners who fly into Singapore just to hop on this cruise, mostly Asians – the nationalities I was seeing/hearing a lot of: Singaporean, Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian.

The main perk of boarding early is that it is the best time to go try out the popular activities that you really do not want to queue up for – everyone else is just getting oriented to the ship, so you have a lot of people wandering around exploring, but no one is really ready to do anything. We had the main pool on Deck 16 mostly to ourselves that first afternoon, and my sis and I hit the water slides multiple times that evening without having to queue or wait as others had to do in the following days, and I saw some people doing the rope course as well.

Other optimum times to hit the facilities with less crowds around are during mealtimes or if you come back from your day trips a little earlier than everyone else – most people aim to return in the last hour or so before the boarding time, so if you put your things down in your room and head straight out, there’s a good chance you’ll get less of a queue.

Of course if you can afford it, the Dream Palace VIP level means no queues wherever you go, but it costs about 2x as much as a regular room, so I’d say only if you can afford it and want to live the lux life.

Know the daily activity schedule

The timings of meals and activities fluctuates every single day, which is a bit of a pain for someone like me who likes having a fairly stable time schedule to remember. There is a daily newsletter with highlights that gets placed outside your room or in the main areas, or download the Dream Cruises app, which has the same info that they have on the e-notice board located around the boat.

There were a ton of families on board with kids of all ages. I think you need to be at least 1.4m in height and about 8-10 years old to fully utilise all the fun facilities like the slides and rope course, otherwise you might end up a tad disappointed like my poor niece.

Some random activity comments:

• Water Slides: There are 2 baby slides, but for the real fun you have to climb up 3 decks to the large water slides. There are 3 levels, my favourite was the Medium level because there is a particularly steep vertical drop right at the start which is like, woah.
• Rope Course: You’re about 2m in the air walking over obstacles and climbing stuff which is pretty fun – stick to the outside of the course where you can look down over the side of the boat, but the best part is the zipline at the end of the course where you zip over the side of the boat. Most thrilling to do on the last day while the boat is on the move!
• Glow Bowling: This can be found at Zouk at Level 17 and is UV lit later in the night, but it usually is a lot less crowded if you go earlier in the evening as it starts getting crowded after dinner and there are only 4 lanes. It also costs $8/game (10 frames) – which means each person pays $8 to bowl 10 frames unless you’re happy to share.

You have to sign up for slots for some of the activities like the night shows in the theatre. Unless you have a really big group and want to guarantee a slot for your entire group, I honestly don’t think you need to bother, especially later in the trip when the theatres seemed more empty. My mum who’s pretty organised about this sorta thing signed us up for 4 shows, I ended up going to only 2 of them:

• The Santa’s Leading Ladies show was a medley of Christmas songs sung by 3 ladies that I personally found very boring and made worse by the amount of typos in the song lyrics flashed on either side of the stage, as well as the poor gif like animations used in the background. I’ve seen more polished school projects, come on.
• The house show Voyage of a Lover’s Dream is a bit of an abstract mishmash of everything and there seems to be a very loose storyline based on an astronaut and a mermaid falling in love (you’ll see the artwork on the side of the boat as well), and it’s entertaining at least. Some of the acrobatics are mindboggling, the trampoline act is like woah.

This is a Genting boat after all, so there are tons of gambling opportunities for you all around as you walk around Levels 6-8 where all the dining and shopping happens. I hardly went to the casinos because I’m just not interested so I can’t tell you very much about that.

Where and when to eat

Genting Dream boasts of over 35 dining concepts within its ship , but here’s a bit of a reality check, only 3 of these are inclusive dining areas like The Lido (International buffet, deck 16), Dream Dining Upper (Chinese food, deck 8) and Dream Dining Lower (Western food, deck 7), which is what you are limited to when you’re on a plebian tier (my words, not theirs). Everything else you pay extra for unless you are in the Dream Palace tier (that’s like the VIP tier).

The meal timings fluctuate, and you would think going to eat early would mean less queuing, but that seems to be what everyone thinks as well, so you are actually better off going at around an hour or so after the opening meal time for that first wave to leave, especially on the first day. My friends on the VIP tier say that the premium restaurants were mostly uncrowded, so if you are tired of queuing, maybe consider forking out the cash for a fancier experience.

For breakfast, I had a much better experience in Dream Dining Lower than in The Lido – it was much easier to get a seat and much less crowded. There was less food selection of course compared to the buffet spread in The Lido, but the food quality was definitely better, actually warm and better tasting in my opinion. The Dream Dining rooms do set meals, so you get assigned a table and either get to choose from a list of set meals (western), or you get served family style (chinese).

The Lido definitely does lunch and dinner better – I like having variety, but it also gets pretty packed compared to the other 2 dining areas. It’s a U-shaped room with multiple food stations, but it isn’t entirely identical on each side. The starboard (right side when you face the front) of The Lido tends to be less crowded compared to the port side (left side). The bend of the U is an extremely popular Indian food section – this cruise seems to be quite popular with the Indians, which means yay curries and papadum for variety but holy moly it gets crowded when the Indian folk all come into the restaurant at once.

If you have super picky eaters, there’s a bakery on board and some smaller meal options where it’s not crazy expensive that might work for you. Donuts were going at around $3.50 and a Breakfast Set for around $7, not cheap but hey you’re a captive customer, it’s not insane either.

Some food comments:

• I’d recommend: beef (DDL as a set meal and the carved roast up in the Lido), bak kut teh (DDL – it’s Malaysian style with lots of ingredients but the soup quantity itself is quite small), live noodle stations (super spicy tom yam, great prawn noodle soup and lor mee, I liked the fishball noodle soup but the fishball itself was forgettable), fried chicken (can’t go wrong honestly). We had a seafood Chinese dinner that was pretty good on our last night (DDU)
• I’d skip with no regret: juices (these are very much cordial drinks and very sweet at that. Stick to water), dory fish (DDL – it’s kinda soggy and fishy), porridge (especially if it’s not hot like our first breakfast in The Lido)

The ship docked in different ports every day – Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang, I skipped this and stayed on board), Penang (Swettenham Pier which is really near George Town) and Phuket (near Patong Bay).

For Phuket, you’ll need to pick up a ferry transfer ticket to transfer you from the boat to the land, unlike the other 2 where you can walk off the boat directly. Whatever time you pick, hustle down to pickup area (ours was in the Zodiac Theatre) as early as you can, because they board on a first-come-first-serve basis and it can take awhile. We waited at least half an hour for our 945am call time to finally board a ferry. The return is much faster though, possibly because the seas are less choppy in the evening and there are more boats.

The moment you disembark, you will be surrounded by people offering taxi services – do your research beforehand so you know how much to pay and not get ripped off. It’s a bit of a swarm, I let my family work out the details and just tagged along. You definitely could consider walking, catching a cheap public bus or taking a Grab in Penang because of the proximity to George Town, unless you plan to travel further. For Phuket, there is a decent stretch of beach within walking distance of the port if you rather not travel too far. It’s a bit crowded, but you can do your sea sports and the water/sand are nice enough.

The ship also organises day tours, which I honestly thought were pretty pricey, but that’s to be expected. We had actually planned to go on a Phi Phi island tour but the weather wasn’t great so that got cancelled. Instead we ended up heading to some sort of activity centre for ATV rides, and they also offered elephant rides and ziplining.

• Of course Penang is a great foodie destination, so make sure to eat, eat, eat !

I am going to spent 5N6D on genting dream cruise with my wife and two kids. I will have 4 shore excursion i.e. port klang, lagkawi, penang and phuket. My querry is that can i get shore excursion options outside the port from local travel agent or i have to book in advance.

Usually at the port when you disembark from the cruise ship, there are lot of drivers etc offering you tours and other services, so you can book from there. You can probably make your own arrangements as well, or book via the ship's tour desk.

Hello, I'm curious on where did the ship docked at penang? From the port is there any form of transport available to go george town? If so, how much should i set aside for it?

Hi Estie - if you look at the section under day trips, in Penang the boat docks at Swettenham Pier which is quite close to downtown George Town. There are lots of taxis waiting and guides waiting for passengers coming off the boat, Price really depends on where you go though, hard for me to advise about that.

Redefining Your Level of Luxury Cruising Experience

N obel laureate Thomas Eliot once wrote this popular line, “ the journey, not the arrival matters, ” which applies to our day-to-day experiences. Today, we take a closer look into this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we recently enjoyed onboard Genting Dream Cruise Ship.

Not everyone gets to experience what it’s like to live on a cruise ship. We used to think that cruising is just for those who have gone through retirement, reaping the rewards of hard work and perseverance, but the truth is sailing on a cruise ship is for everyone—young and old.

Luckily, Team Out of Town , along with other Pinoy travel bloggers, got invited to spend three days and two nights inside a Genting Dream cruise ship last September.

Inside the Luxury Cruise Ship

Genting Dream is touted as the first Asian-oriented luxury cruise ship that considers Singapore as its home port. It’s a 1,100-feet long, 130-feet wide, and can accommodate 3,400 passengers.

It boasts many boutiques, bars, restaurants, and other attractions distributed in its 19 decks including a rock-climbing wall, a spa and fitness complex, a private clubhouse, a mini-golf course, an outdoor promenade deck, and a waterslide park among others. The brand under which it is a part of, Dream Cruises, has received different accolades last year including recognition by the Global Times as the “ Best Preferred Cruise Brand for Families ” and during the 2018 Asian Cruise Forum as “ Asia’s Best Cruise Ship ”. It was also included in the list of “ Top 10 Large Resort Ships ” made by the 2018 Berlitz Cruising and Cruise Guide.

In this article, I will share with you my experience inside the Genting Dream starting from the boarding process, the accommodation, down to the different onboard and shore excursion activities and dining options. But before I show you the highlights of our adventure, here are important steps you need to remember before you set foot on the cruise ship.

PRE-TRIP PREPARATION

Get the fly cruise transfer service.

It was actually not my first time to cruise, and while there may be some exhausting experience during check-in process where air and sea travel converge, the check-in at Changi Lounge at the Jewel Changi Airport was seamless thanks to the Fly Cruise Transfer Service.

While this is completely optional, I find this convenient. The transfer service package includes a hassle-free luggage transfer which means that from your luggage check-in in Manila, you can have your luggage delivered to your respective cabin. It also grants you exclusive access to the Lounge where you can claim your stateroom key card. The transfer service will make sure that you can get to Marina Bay Cruise Centre terminal in time for check-in.

Boarding Process

If you did not avail of the Fly Cruise transfer service, you will have to proceed to the Marina Bay Cruise Center to board and embark. Make sure you have prepared all the necessary travel documents before you head to the check-in counter. Upon arrival at the check-in area, go to the lane designated to your cabin class and be ready to present your cruise ticket and other travel documents. You must pass through security screening and present your access card. Once cleared by immigration, you may then board the cruise ship and start your vacation.

Checking-in Process

To secure your stateroom key card, present your confirmed cruise ticket at the counter. The stateroom key card is a four-in-one card that acts as an onboard identity card, onboard charge card, gangway security pass, and cabin access key card. In case you lost your keycard, you can immediately report it at the cruise reception for replacement. Online check-in can be done 7 days up to 24 hours in advance prior to departure. There are designated counters for guests who have checked in online.

Provide your Credit Card Info / Cash Deposit

It is not mandatory that you show your credit card/debit card or cash deposit to establish that you have an account onboard. But, pre-authorization will help faster Express check-out and final settlement of your account on the last day of your cruise.

Depositing your Passport

You need to surrender your passport before boarding the ship. You need not worry since you will be able to claim it the night before you checkout.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO BRING

Travel documents.

First things first, make sure you have the following documents before leaving: your passport, a photocopy of your passport’s bio page, a copy of your cruise ticket, and a visa (if applicable). Also take note that the currency while on the ship is in Singapore Dollar, but don’t worry! Money changer is also available onboard.

You’re not spending the rest of the trip inside the ship, so make sure to bring lightweight clothes for daytime activities and shore excursions in Singapore and Indonesia. Remember that the ship only allows 2 pieces of personal luggage on board.

If you plan to dine in specialty restaurants or attend night parties, don’t forget to pack smart casual wear and appropriate shoes. Always prioritize comfort over looks, but if you can strike a balance between fashionable and convenience – much better.

Time Onboard

Singapore follows the same time zone as ours (GMT+8), so time onboard will be the same time in the Philippines but will change when the ship docks in other countries like Thailand.

Dream Cruises Mobile Application

For convenience and up to date information on daily events and activities, make sure to download the Dream Cruise mobile app before getting onboard. The app provides important information about the vessel, daily events and activities, spa treatments and dining reservations. You can also use the app to check on your bill. The Dream Cruises app is now available for iPhone and Android.

Mandatory Safety Drill

Before the ship begins its sail on the first day, you need to take part in the safety drill to better prepare you for unwanted circumstances.

This will help you familiarize the emergency exits and assembly station nearest you. The drill usually takes place at around 21:00. Be aware that there are rules that you need to observe on board to keep everyone safe during the cruise.

Shore Excursions (Shorex)

What I love joining the cruise is that we also get to enjoy multiple destinations with one packing. To enjoy your holiday, there are pre-arranged tours at every stop in case you missed making your arrangements before the trip. Another advantage of booking a Shorex is that you don’t have to worry traveling on your next destination and the cost.

During the recent trip with Genting Dream, we were given three Shorex options which includes the Tanjung Urban Explorer, Scuba Tryout at Trikora Coast, and Bintan Black Coral Leisure Diving. The tour cost usually starts at SGD5O and lasts up to 8 hours.

We took the first option which includes Gurun Pasir Busung where we admired the famous Indonesia sand dunes – which is an Instagrammers haven. We also stopped by at the Telaga Biru known for its blue lake, and had a little taste of paradise at the Trily Resort Center Mangrove Forest.

What’s Inside the my Cabin

The ship is an utter surprise, because it isn’t only big – it’s lavishly decorated with a dash of modern touch in it. They house various accommodation for guests, with 1,680 cabins, 1,278 outdoor cabins and 3,360 passenger cabins spread over two exclusive floors. Not to mention, the Casino area is scattered everywhere! You can even walk by at some slot games from all the corners of the ship. Talk about accessibility!

For discerning passengers, you can book among their 142 suites featuring a ‘highly personalized’ European-style butler service and other special privileges. There are also spacious staterooms – featuring tastefully decorated private balconies and plush beddings – and I happen to stay in one of these rooms.

I’m pretty amazed with its well-arranged 20 square meter cabin with a queen bed, a sofa, Satellite TV, coffee and tea making facilities, mini-refrigerator, video-on-demand options for free. and a balcony which provides a fantastic view of the ocean, complete with table and chairs — a perfect place for me to write while enjoying the sunset.

They have provided toiletries from shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, towels, robes, and slippers.

Another thing I noticed was that the room smells good and it was clean. They also provide two bottled water daily.

There are several dining options onboard serving array of international cuisine but only three of them are included on the cruise package.

Dream Dining Room Upper: Tired from wandering around the ship? Head over at the Deck 7 at the Aft section of the ship, where most guests dine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not to worry with food menu options, as they offer both Asian and international cuisine with menus rotated daily. As for Chinese cuisine, their Cantonese style dim sum or two noodle dishes are highly recommended! There’s also regional menu served for dinner every evening, where mostly ordered dishes include the spicy Szechuan dishes to hometown Hakka staples.

Dream Dining Room Lower: If the Room Upper is crowded, the best thing to do is go to Room Lower and try their semi-buffet style Western food. Here, they serve the usuals — the cold cuts, cereals, some traditional English fare, and Chinese dishes. As for the breakfast, try their omelet with plenty of selection of toppings, scrambled eggs, sunny side up to boiled eggs which comes in a mini egg cup.

Here at the Room Lower, you don’t get to indulge in quality meals, but you also get to have a glimpse of the helipad and the bow of the cruise ship from the windows.

More Dining Options at Genting Dream

Another memorable treat for all Japanese cuisine lovers is dining at Umi Uma where Chefs put on an entertaining teppanyaki performance for their guests. They will be juggling and cooking food in front of you, and is one of the highlights of the dining experience. It’s located at Deck 8, and features three unique dining concepts, which includes the traditional cooking show performed over the Iron Plate tables.

Another favorite in the ship is Bistro by Mark Best — a contemporary steakhouse focusing Australian beef, lamb and seafood. This dining area is perfect for romantic dinner, and for those who wanted to have a taste of dishes curated by an expert culinary team.

The Lido – Indulge yourself with an extensive spread of Indian cuisine at Lido located on Deck 16 at the Aft Section. In its U-shaped room, you’ll see multiple offerings from international cuisines like Chinese and Western delicacies, 24-hour snacks, coffee, and tea, and a dessert section filled with sweet treats such as frozen yogurt with fresh fruit.

In case you just wanted to have a small meal in the afternoon, you can visit the bakery onboard offering freshly baked pastries and cakes, and some smaller meal options. If you head outside, you’ll see the World Grill, known for their flame-grilled steaks, burgers, and hotdogs. Try it! View outside is definitely a must-see.

Top Deck Attractions

Too lazy to go out for a stopover? Not a problem at the Genting Dreams. The ship isn’t only heavy on dining but is also jampacked with family activities as well. There are different levels of water slides, mini-golf, a rope course where you walk into an obstacle while overlooking the side of the boat, a 35-meter zip line and a view 18 decks above the sea, and a 23-feet rock-climbing wall. You can also head over at the arcade for some indoor fun.

There’s also the Sportsplex, a large outdoor court on Deck 19 where you can play basketball, tennis, and other games.

Wellness Facilities

Let’s not forget to get ourselves pampered once in a while. Luckily, Genting Dreams also houses the Crystal Life Spa and the Crystal Life Asian Spa which offers soothing massages, therapeutic remedies, and Western and Asian treatments for their guests. In case you wanted to have your hair done, you can visit The Gentleman’s Barber and Le Salon are also available for passengers to receive personal grooming such as hair or nail treatment.

If you want to sweat out a bit, a gym is also available at the cruise ship, equipped with only the quality equipment.

Evening Shows and Events

Cap off your day with one of Genting Dream’s exciting live performances at Zodiac Theatre located at deck 7. To skip the hassle, you can watch free-performances through the Dream Cruises app. If you’re lucky, you get to watch circus acts and dance numbers depending on the schedule.

Fortunately, we were able to watch one of the shows at Zodiac Theatre called Some Like It Hot. It was a very festive show, exuding a ‘50s and ‘60s vibe theme with a modern twist. And the featured dancers aren’t just ANY dancers! They are award-winning ballroom dance champions, joined by singers Tatyana and David for a unique and world-class performance. There were foxtrot and waltz numbers which makes this a must-see in the cruise.

Cinema at Sea

If you’re more of a movie person and want to have some alone time, then head over at the Zouk BeachClub for top-rated films with an open-air surround sound and the experience of being under the stars. There’s also on in the lobby, and at the Zodiac Theatre where they feature the latest 3D blockbuster flicks in hi-fi sound.

Shopping at The Dream Boutiques

If you’re up for some shopping spree, the Dream Boutiques, the Dream Store, and the Souvenir Mart might just be the place for you. For the Dream Boutiques, feel free to splurge yourself with some of the world’s top luxury brands and designer goods at sea. Now that’s impressive! There’s a selection of prestige watches, fine jewelry, leather goods and more.

For caps, t-shirt, goodies, gifts, and other merch, head over the Dream Store and the Souvenir Mart.

Genting Dreams is an all-in-one entertainment venue – from the karaoke area at Silk Road on deck 6, the Zouk Beach club, an outdoor beach club completed with cabanas and cocktails, plunge pool and pool tables, where guests can enjoy DJs and live music, with of course, a signature cocktail drinks on hand.

No need to worry about your latest social media updates – as there is a Satellite Internet connection available on Dream Cruises. But of course, you can buy Wifi packages straight from Dream APP to skip the queue.

Checking Out and Disembarkation

This is where the Dream Cruises app comes in handy again. You can check out your account and settle your bills before heading to the assembly area.

Important Tips and Reminders

Board as early as possible.

Everybody hates a long queue, agree? We suggest you board earlier so you can wander around the ship without being crowded yet.

Know the daily activity schedule

Planning your activities for the whole trip would save your time and effort. Download the Dream Cruises app and get updated on the latest event and activity you can enjoy. In addition, there is also a daily newsletter placed outside your room for more information.

Book activities in advance

You don’t want to feel disappointed if the restaurant or an event in the ship is already fully-booked, right? It’s best to book some activities and do some reservations like the Shore excursions on the mobile app to make sure you enjoy your trip without having to wait for a seat to open.

It’s always good to get an updated round-the-clock schedule and activities on the ship, be it from scheduled fireworks, dining schedule, or a free performance from their onboard entertainers.

Bring clothes which are perfect for party time, separate shirts for some outdoor fun, and formal ones if you’re going on a romantic dinner in one of their fine-dining restaurants. It’s also best to pack light to save some luggage space and avoid additional fees.

Here’s a useful tip: To save more space, try using ziplock bags or packing cubes so you can stay organized throughout the trip. To avoid seasickness, bring some meds just in case.

The Verdict

Even if you’re not into spending loads of money for international travels, you’ll now that alternatives such as cruise are all the rage.

It may have a perception of being expensive, but in reality, it’s worth every cent, especially if you’re traveling with your family. Cruising with Genting Dreams is much more affordable compared to other luxury cruise lines, but does not compensate for their quality of service and experience.

At the end of the day, it will always be the shared experiences that matter most.

Review of Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream Promotion Package on Klook

I have always wanted to try Genting Dream Cruises but my last attempt was unfortunately foiled by Olympia’s illness. When it subsequently filed for a winding-up application, I thought my hopes of ever sailing on it had sank to the abyss as well. After some shrewd corporate restructuring (depending on which side you are on), Dream Cruises returned under a new ownership structure and taken on the parent brand name of Resorts World. As I have been monitoring its cruise ticket prices for some time, I could immediately tell a good promotion if there is one. Acting decisively, I paid approx. an all-in price of S$320 per pax (including port charges and gratuities) for a 4-day 3-night cruise on a balcony stateroom over the Hari Raya Haji long weekend via the Klook platform. Considering that a cruise package is all inclusive (full-board), this is an attractive price that is much cheaper than a hotel staycation in Singapore. This is my review of Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream which also berthed at Port Dickson and Penang during my sailing.

1) Spanking new facilities that are under-utilised

First impression when I stepped foot on the cruise was how new it was. As shown in Diagram 1, the balcony cabin that I stayed in was clean and spacious while the toilet was of a comfortable size as well.

Despite being modern facilities, they were strangely under-utilised throughout the cruise. I soon realised that this was because majority of the passengers were there for the casino instead. As a result, my family enjoyed the swimming pool, waterground slides, high ropes obstacle, gym and other facilities to our hearts’ content.

There was minimal need to queue in line or share the facilities with other users. This meant that Olympia could use the Little Dreamer’s Club up to the 2-hour daily limit (chargeable after 2 hours) even though it has a maximum capacity of 18 pax at any 1 time.

Some of the complimentary classes offered had so little attendees it almost felt like a private class at times!

On the contrary, the casino was packed to the rafters with virtually every slot machine taken up during peak hours. Little wonder that the line to sign up for membership was insanely long.

2) Penang stopover

My family really enjoyed the half day spent at Penang. It could have been longer if not for observing the little’s one nap time. Unlike at Port Dickson the day before, Genting Dream called at Port Swettenham directly. This meant that we could disembark and board anytime without having to wait for scheduled tender boats.

Once on land, we avoided all the land tour packages and car rental services as they were severely overpriced. We got around Georgetown with Grab and each trip never cost more than RM15 even with wet weather surcharge! Like most tourists, we went on a food tour and sampled great local hawker fare such as chendol, oyster omelette etc. Of course, we returned to the cruise not only with our stomachs full but also hands full of local goodies and souvenirs.

As a tip for travelling during the Covid pandemic, you will save plenty of time by downloading and registering on the MySejahtera mobile app before departure.

What Can Be Improved

Apart from the positives, I also find that there are certainly areas for improvement for Resorts World Cruises.

1) Check in and Check Out process

We were issued a check-in time of 1pm and expected to check in at this time as I had already completed the online check-in. When we arrived at Marina Bay Cruise Centre promptly at 1pm, we were greeted by 3 long queues outside the departure hall. It didn’t help that passengers with later reporting times were also allowed to join the snaking queues.

We finally received our boarding pass and room keys after waiting for 45 minutes and thought that this marked the end of further waiting. To my disappointment, the operator made all the passengers wait inside the departure hall as the cruise was not ready for boarding. After an almost 2-hour ordeal, we finally reached our staterooms at 3pm.

Checking out was an equally cumbersome affair as the operator held everyone up in holding areas before progressively releasing the groups. I understand that this is to stagger the passengers and minimise bottlenecks. However, I felt that this was not completely necessary. Based on my experience cruising with Royal Caribbean , there is usually no congestion as most passengers would have their own preferred times to depart the ship between the 3 or 4-hour window after arrival time.

2) Too many activities/facilities require additional payment

I also found that there were way too many activities and facilities that required additional payment. For instance, I completely understand if a fee per game is levied to bowl in the dark as I imagine that this will be highly popular if it is made free of charge.

However, I find it slightly off-putting when fees are being levied for exercise classes, dance parties and performances:

• $35 fee is charged for HIIT classes in the gym
• $20 entrance fee to Bollywood Blast Party
• Up to $80 VIP tickets for Dream Boys Performance.

Let’s not forget that these tickets were also heavily advertised throughout the cruise to ring up sales. I was not entirely convinced and did not part with my money to enjoy these paid attractions.

3) On-board entertainment

During our 4-day cruise, 2 complimentary shows were available at the Zodiac Theatre during our 4-day cruise:

• 1) Yin. Yang- At best, this felt like watching (insert Country) Got Talent. At worst, this was a mishmash of disparate performances with no central theme running through it. Think acrobat, face-changing opera, Western pop dance etc.
• 2) Love Matters – This was really good and helped to salvage the previous night’s disappointment. Interaction was high, genuinely funny and audience was engaged and enrapt throughout.

I am optimistic that with time, Yin.Yang will be better because I have the nagging feeling that the show was hastily put together to accommodate whichever performers/artistes that decided to stay with the new ownership. Overall, I would rate the on-board entertainment a mixed bag.

I always feel that a big part of a cruise experience is about the food although this may not hold true for Genting Dream’s target audience. There are a few plus points when it comes to the food offering on Genting Dream.

The Lido is a certified Halal international restaurant which makes Genting Dream a viable option for Muslim travellers. Overall, the Malay and Indian food offered here would be the better cuisines, but I would suggest skipping the Western and dessert sections. Outside of meal times, The Lido also serve snacks but these are largely plain congee or processed food that are deep fried.

Genting Dream whip up good Chinese food at the Dream Dining Room Upper. In the mornings, I also enjoyed dim sum with hot tea. Even though this is a sit-down concept, feel free to order second helpings if the initial round of food is not sufficient.

Western food is offered at Dream Dining Room Lower and there’s nothing much to shout about. Let’s just say that I have had better omelette at army cookhouse.

Klook Promotion

Bookings for Resorts World Cruises are currently powered on Klook’s platform where the full itinerary for the particular date is available for viewing. My experience redeeming the vouchers was relatively straightforward.

A week before travelling, Klook reminded me to perform online check in . I also arranged for ART tests via the platform. The only negative was that cabin staterooms were randomly allocated. Since I had booked 2 staterooms for my family of 4, I contacted Resorts World Cruises after booking to request for them to be adjacent or at least on the same deck.

Besides taking advantage of the promotion on Klook, I could also triple-stack the following promotions to reduce my purchase price further:

• Take advantage of ongoing promotion codes – eg: Get $25 off with GrabPay
• Activate Shopback to receive 3% cashback. Cashback is enhanced during special dates such as 7.7 sale
• Offset purchase price with existing Klook coins

As a result, I paid an all-in discounted price of $320 per pax for 3 nights of sailing which I consider as a fantastic deal given the food and entertainment that I had on the seacation.

After this review, I have now officially sailed on Quantum of the Seas , Spectrum of the Seas and Genting Dream to destinations that ranged from “Nowhere” to Malaysia. That should complete the grand slam 😀

Based on my recollection, check in timing will be emailed to you a few days before your actual trip. I did not purchase any onboard beverage or credit, so i am unable to advise.

Genting Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Part 4: Activities and Shows

There’s one similarity that I notice in every cruise trips that I’ve been on: there are too many activities on a cruise and you simply can’t do everything. If you want to experience as much activities as possible, you need to plan your itinerary properly, otherwise, you might missed out on certain activities.

But you can’t plan the itinerary before you’re on board, because cruises only distribute the daily schedule when you’re on board. So, what you can do before boarding is to determine what kind of activities you want to take part in. When you’re on board, you can plan the sequence of the activities.

In this article, I’ll try to share as much info as I have regarding activities on the World Dream Cruise to Nowhere. Hopefully by the end of this article, you’ll know what you want to take part in.

PS: During my visit in 2021, the ship was called World Dream . However, they changed name to Resort World Cruise in 2022. Just want you to know that they’re interchangeable =)

What are the activities in World Dream?

What are the shows in world dream and how to book them, tips on booking activities and shows.

Some activities and shows require advance booking, while others are based on first come first served basis (which means you need to queue before the activities/show start).

The most popular activities that always get fully booked are jacuzzi, swimming pool, mini golf, table tennis and shows. To ensure you get a slot in jacuzzi, pool, golf and table tennis, do turn up at the respective booking counters early in the morning, after your breakfast.

Getting a jacuzzi slot is extremely difficult. If you don’t get a jacuzzi slot, you can bet on your luck by booking a pool slot, then if the person using jacuzzi is done for the day, you can jump in. Alternatively, you can pay for Crystal Life Spa access (SGD 20) to enjoy steam room, sauna and hot bath which is almost similar to jacuzzi except that it’s indoor.

Booking for free shows can be done via Dream App. The slots are not released all at once, instead, limited slots are released every hour, making it quite difficult to snatch a slot if you do not have fast fingers. If you don’t get a slot via the Dream App but you’re very keen to watch the show, here’s a secret: queue at the studio 15-20 mins before the show; if there are guests that don’t turn up when the show starts, they’ll let you in.

If you hate the idea of having to make booking for most of the activities, then you can probably consider booking Palace Suite or above, because Palace customers can book activities via a special lane, they don’t have to queue at reservation counter or constantly checking the Dream App to register for activities.

Non-Palace customers like us can swim at the Main Pool (Deck 16 MID). Reservation must be made in advance at the towel counter beside the main pool. Each reservation is valid for 1 hour only. Towel is provided for free. However, there’s no locker, so you need to put your stuffs on the sun lounge. We decided not to bring our phones to prevent them being stolen. But we still need to bring room key and tracey token with us at all times.

To be honest, I feel that the pool is quite small (and not clean). Once is definitely enough. For us, we couldn’t get a jacuzzi slot because it’s fully booked when we wanted to book it. So what we did was book the pool slot and bet our luck that people who booked jacuzzi during the same timeslot as us would finish their dip in less than 1 hour, and we could use the jacuzzi when they’re done. Our bet paid off.

There are 4 jacuzzi surrounding the main pool (Deck 16 MID), and there are 2 jacuzzi at Zouk Beach Club (Deck 17 AFT). Jacuzzi is a very popular activities that always get fully booked early. It is a hot water jacuzzi so it’s best enjoyed in the morning or late afternoon or evening. Some of the jacuzzi are sheltered and some are not, so it really depends on your luck which one you’ll get.

If you manage to snatch a slot, you’ll have the jacuzzi for yourselves and no other groups are allowed to join in your jacuzzi during this corona period. That explains why jacuzzi has a very high demand.

Waterslides

There are 2 clusters of waterslides, let’s call it the kid’s slide and adult’s slides.

The kid’s slide is the orange color slide, and it’s located at Deck 16 MID, just beside the main pool. Beside kid’s slides, there is also a children pool.

The adult’s slides are located at Deck 17 AFT, and it’s called Waterslide Park. There are 5 slides with different difficulties, starting from the easiest at No 1, to the scariest at No 5. It’s recommended that you take the slides in ascending order, starting from No 1 and ending at No 5.

Personally I only took No 1, 2 and 3. I did not dare to take No 4 and 5 because both of them are very steep. No 5 even had a small stretch in the beginning where you’ll experience almost free fall. To be honest, I feel pain at my back from the friction with the slide’s joints, I’m not sure if it’s normal but it definitely discouraged me from going on unlimited slides.

I highly recommend that you try these slides. No reservation is required, just wear your swimsuit and climb the staircase from Deck 16 to Deck 17. When you’re halfway at the stairs, there is a rack for you to hang your mask, watch, glass, and whatever accessories that aren’t allowed on the slides. Since we need to bring key room and tracey token with you all the time, we just put them on sun lounge by the main pool. There’s no other way, there’s no locker for slides users.

Rope Course & Zipline

This is the most challenging as well as the most rewarding activity I’ve done throughout this cruise trip. Rope Course is located at Deck 18 AFT. No reservation is required but you need to join the long queue. From my observation, it is least crowded after 4pm. Of course don’t wait until 4pm on your last evening, because it might rain! You need to wear your own shoes for this activity. There is a small locker for you to keep your room key, token, and accessories, no fee is required for usage of this locker.

There are 2 tiers in this rope course, one is closer to the ground (let’s call it the lower one), one is above the lower one (let’s call it the higher one). No queue/harness system is required for the lower one, and it’s less fun. I skipped the lower one and went straight to the higher one. And, yes, you need to wear mask throughout the entire course!

At the start of the course, we were briefed by the crew on how to lock and unlock the harness hook. Then, we’re off on our own. There are plenty of combination of routes you can take, but most people take the outer edge route. If the inner route (diagonal route) looks easier for you, then you should go for it. For me, I took the outer route.

The rope course is HARD! I am scared of height, and having to balance my body on a shaky rope platform at height terrifies me, but I’m willing to fight through the terror just to get to zipline starting point. You can’t go straight to zipline starting point, you MUST go through the rope course.

I thought the shaky platform was the worst part of this entire course, but I was wrong. At the end of shaky platform, before the zipline, there is a rope wall that we have to scale horizontally! The ropes are not tensed, so you need to exert a lot of strength to support your body. Furthermore, there is no belay system! You’re just relying on your own arm and leg strength. And to make it worse, it’s not a flat rope wall, there is a solid steel plate in the middle of the wall which you need to climb over to get to the other side! Who’s the genius that designed this course??

If your arms and legs are not strong enough and you let go of the rope, you’ll be hanging in the air and people behind you will be stuck because they can’t overtake you. So much pressure was building up inside of me. I told the zipline staff (who’s standing at the other end of the rope wall) that I’m very scared and I don’t think I could do it. He told me not to worry and he would help me. I made the leap of faith to scale the wall and he climbed the rope wall towards me and grabbed my harness over the big steel plate.

In a few minutes, I’m over the freaky rope course, phew! And then, I’m on the zipline, woohoo! I highly recommend this activity to be in your itinerary!

Rock Climbing Wall

The rock climbing wall is located at Deck 18 AFT, just next to Rope Course. No reservation is required. They provide special rock climbing shoes but you need your own socks. There is a place for you to put belongings while you’re climbing the wall, so you don’t need to leave your belonging on the sun lounge while queueing.

There are 4 belay systems, but it doesn’t mean that 4 people will get to climb at the same time. When we queued, only 1 person was allowed to climb at one time (not sure why they didn’t open the entire 4 lines). Because of this, the waiting was incredibly long. When we started queueing, there were less than 10 people in front of us. After q-ing for 1 hour, it’s still not our turn yet, and suddenly rain came. So the activity was stopped for the day, and we wasted 1 hour for nothing.

If you’re not a hard core rock climber, I think queueing for this activity is not worth your time, especially if only 1 person is allowed to climb at one time.

Mini Golf is an activity that falls in the “low supply, high demand” camp. There is basically just 1 mini golf course in the entire cruise, and only 1 group is allowed to play at any time. So, obviously it’s hard to get a slot if you try to book it not on the first day.

Reservation can be done at the counter near rope course & rock climbing. We didn’t get a slot when we tried to book on the second day. We didn’t know there’s a golf course, so we didn’t register early. If you’re keen, do book early.

Table Tennis

Table tennis is located at Deck 18 AFT near rope course and rock climbing. Booking can be done at the counter near rope course.

Table tennis falls in the “high supply, high demand” camp. There are several tables and each reservation slot is limited to 30 mins only. So, it’s quite easy to get a slot for table tennis. Rest assured, rackets and balls are provided. We tried to book a slot on Day 2, and the earliest slot available was Day 3, so we took it.

Basketball/Volleyball

To play basketball/volleyball, you need to make reservation for SportsPlex. SportsPlex is located at Deck 19 AFT and reservation can be done at Deck 18 AFT. Ball sports are not my forte, so we didn’t venture into SportsPlex. From my observation, the sportsplex is always occupied, so you probably need to make a booking early to get a reservation slot.

The gym is called Crystal Life Fitness. It is located at Deck 15 FWD. Reservation is necessary and can be done at Crystal Life Spa (also Deck 15 FWD) or via phone. Each reservation is limited to 1.5 hours of usage.

The gym has spectacular view of the ocean. If you’re a jogger or runner, the gym is definitely a better place to run compared to the outdoor jogging track which is too short and too crowded.

Bridge Viewing Room

We stumbled upon Bridge Viewing Room by accident. We finished our dinner and decided to wander around the ship, then we walked into this room with a model of the ship.

On a normal day, if you visit this room, you can see what’s inside the Captain’s room. However, when we visited at night on Day 1, and the curtain between this room and Captain’s room was rolled down, hence we couldn’t see the room.

It isn’t a Dream Cruise if there is no mention of casino, right? While casinos on mainland Singapore charges SGD 150 for citizens and permanent residents, the casino on the cruise is free to enter, so that probably explains why casino on Dream Cruise is a huge hit. During my trip, the casino is open around 45 mins after departure and close around 1.5 hour before arrival at Singapore.

The main part of casino is located at Deck 6, 7 and 8, which consists of the usual slot machines, card games, table games as well as arcade-like games such as coin dozers. I don’t know how to play card or table games, so I spent a few dollars playing coin dozer, and sadly, I didn’t make money from it.

Everyday, there are Bingo games held at Deck 6 MID. The grand prize for Bingo increases everyday, so if you want to win the highest amount of prize, the best time to play is at the last game. The game is pretty fast-paced, the host mentions so many numbers in a short span of time, so you need to have sharp ears, fast eyes and fast fingers.

I’m not a gambler, I will only take risk when I know the result is purely based on luck & skill, and result is not easily fabricated by the house. After watching the Bingo games, I noticed that the numbers are generated by computer, not by a physical machine that draws randomly-numbered balls. There is a small chance that the numbers being called is not random, so I decided not to partake in the game even though the reward is very attractive. The reward for the final game is SGD 62,888, and nobody won this prize.

Virtual Reality is located at Esc EXPERIENCE LAB. You can get free VR tickets if you purchase Dream Boys show. I didn’t tried any VR games, probably because I was too focused on water activities, rope course, food and shows. It is something I’d really like to try in the future if I’m going on a cruise again. The price is not cheap, but I think it’s worth trying at least once, since I’ve never tried a VR before.

Shows at Zodiac Theatre

During my time, the main shows at Zodiac Theatre were Vision (magic show), Faith (music/dance show) and Twice as Nice (music show), and Tribute to Teresa Teng. Booking must be done via Dream App.

We managed to watch Vision, Faith and Twice as Nice. But we didn’t manage to watch Teresa Teng because there was always empty slot in the Dream app, and we turned up at the theatre too late, there was no more empty seats.

I feel that there is sort of discrimination for non-Palace customers because we don’t get to sit at the center-front section of the theatre. The center section is reserved for Palace customers. I guess that’s a way to lure you to book Palace rooms for your next cruise.

Before the show, the staffs would sell lucky draw coupons in the theatre. I didn’t buy because they were not cheap and I am just a risk-adverse person. But I could tell that these coupons were quite a hot commodity.

The first show that we watched was Vision. I quite enjoy this magic show, I think the way Vincent engage the audience is sometimes hilarious.

The second show that we watched was Faith. Because the show time was quite late at night (10pm+), I was worn out by the time I sank into the seat. I couldn’t enjoy the show probably due to my exhaustion.

The third show that we watched was Twice as Nice. It’s a music performance by a couple from America, who can sing in various languages. They did a good job by singing familiar tunes and even a Chinese song.

Live Music at Sea

Live Music at Sea is basically small-scale music performance conducted at Tributes (Deck 8) or Palm Court (Deck 19). The schedule can be found in the Dream Daily. No reservation is allowed, keen cruise-goers must queue in front of the venue before the performance starts.

We didn’t manage to watch these performance because we either arrived at the venue too late (it was already full and we weren’t allowed to enter), or we were too exhausted and decided not to watch them. The shows are mostly conducted at night, when our batteries are almost flat. If you’re a night owl, you’ll definitely enjoy live music performance at night.

Cinema at Sea

During the cruise, several movies are played at Lobby (Deck 6 MID) and Zouk Beach Club (Deck 17 AFT). Schedule and venue can be found in Dream Daily. No reservation is required. We didn’t watch them because it’s just not something we’re interested to do. Furthermore, it’s an open cinema, not enclosed, so it doesn’t give the same vibe as the real cinema.

Adventure Laser Display

On the last day, there are laser displays at the main pool deck. They’re short performances, about 5-minute long, at 10pm, 10.30pm and 11pm. Unfortunately I was too exhausted to watch these. Luckily, I can watch it on YouTube, thanks to people who uploaded their videos of this laser show.

Dream Boys is a very popular show featuring hot boys, as the title suggests. Ticket is required to watch the show, and it is not cheap! During my time, it costs SGD 60 per person, and it comes with 2 free VR tickets. Many people recommends the show, but we couldn’t justify spending SGD 60 per person for a 45-minute show plus 2 VR games, so we didn’t watch it. We just have different priorities.

You can’t do everything on a cruise, you have to pick your priorities. For us, our priorities are water activities, physical activities, watching shows, sipping drinks, and eating food. For you, it might be different.

Do take time to shortlist the activities that you want to do, so you don’t have to scratch your head deciding which activities to book when you’re on board.

Genting Dream review

Genting Dream was my first experience cruising on an Asian cruise line. Would I do it again? Without a doubt! However, there is one thing I would do differently next time around. I wanted to write this Genting Dream review because it was tricky to track down detailed information on the ship pre-cruise, particularly for the different Genting Dream restaurants. Dining is a highlight on Dream Cruises’ Genting Dream, with more than 35 restaurants, bars and culinary experiences available onboard. It’s unlikely you’ll go hungry on this ship with so many dining options to choose from. Here’s a rundown on some important things you need to know before you cruise on this 3,352 passenger ship, together with hints and tips for having fun and making the most of your time onboard. 

Genting Dream boarding time

Because Genting Dream doesn’t get into Singapore until lunch time, boarding starts later that you might be accustomed to. Think 2pm onwards rather than 11am. Ask for late checkout at your Singapore hotel so you can enjoy the morning before making your way to the pier. Hotels that are handy to the Marina Bay Cruise Terminal include Six Senses Maxwell , Sofitel Singapore City Centre and the Mandarin Oriental Singapore . Don’t be tempted to turn up to dock early as the ship won’t be ready to board incoming passengers. On the plus side, your Genting Dream stateroom will be available as soon as you get onboard so you can settle in straight away. If you can manage your own bag, you can bring it onboard with you rather than having it delivered later. It’s great to take your bag straight to your room and unpack without having to wait for it to turn up.

Use the Genting Dream app

I’ve used apps on many different cruise lines and the Dream Cruises one has been the best so far. My favourite feature was being able to check my bill online during the cruise and pay using a credit card at my convenience on the last morning without lining up. You can also use the app to book restaurants and shore excursions when you’re on the ship. This is a much better idea than joining the often long queue at the shore excursions desk.

Genting Dream balcony cabin

I had a balcony cabin on my cruise and was impressed with how large it was. Most Genting Dream cabins accommodate four people so they’re bigger than those found on many other lines. The shower comes with a shower screen rather than a curtain and has good water pressure. There is a pump pack of body wash in the shower, plus individual tubes of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion.

I found the toiletries to be of good quality but missed not having a bar of soap to wash my face. Next time, I’ll pack a cake of soap or some face wash. There’s a sturdy retractable washing line in the shower. There are power points for every type of plug (including Australian ones), a USB port on each side of the bed, and a small electric kettle with coffee and tea making facilities, and a mini fridge. Two complimentary plastic bottles of water are provided daily but you can also drink the water on the ship which tastes fine. I skipped the bottled water unless I needed to take it ashore for a long shore excursion.

The Palace on Genting Dream

Booking into The Palace is the one thing I would do differently on my next Dream Cruises cruise.  Not because I didn’t like my standard balcony cabin – it was great – but because The Palace offers great value for what you pay (especially if you pick up a good deal online). This exclusive “ship-within-a-ship” area is suite-only and has a dedicated dining venue, swimming pool, lounge, and chic Italian décor plus a team of Dream Butlers. If you’re staying in The Palace, you will be escorted past the crowds to a private waiting area in the cruise terminal where you can enjoy tea, coffee, water and light refreshments and complete your paperwork in style. Colourful cocktails, wine and other drinks are included in the cost of the fare. If you’re staying in The Palace, your favourite tipple will be delivered by a dapper tailcoat-wearing butler who quickly gets to know your preferences.

However, the thing that appealed to me the most about The Palace was that – along with everything else – you get a free meal at a specialty restaurant every day of your cruise. I usually spend quite a bit on specialty dining so this is a great deal for cruisers like me. Staying in the equivalent of The Palace on other cruise lines is out of reach financially for many cruisers. On Genting Dream, you can do it for less than $400 per person per night all inclusive and stay in a suite, even if you book the lowest category room in The Palace. If I travelled on Genting Dream again with my family, I would keep my eye on the website for deals and book one of the suites in The Palace for our next cruise. I like the idea of doing a stopover cruise on my way back to Australia from Europe. What a great jetlag buster!

Genting Dream free restaurants

Many of the restaurants onboard Genting Dream attract a fee but there is plenty to enjoy at the two complimentary Dream dining rooms and The Lido buffet. If you’re a fan of authentic Chinese fare, head to the upper deck of the main dining room for the likes of double boiled pork stomach and pork rib soup or wok fried gong bao chicken. The upper deck restaurant is very traditional and could be a step too far for passengers who aren’t used to ingredients such as sea cucumber, pork stomach and frog’s legs. However, the food is very good. 

The downstairs dining room offers a set menu of western favourites for lunch and dinner and a buffet breakfast with Asian dishes such as dumplings, plus bacon, eggs and omelettes served to your table. At The Lido you’ll find an impressive variety of dishes, including an extensive and superb Indian section that’s available at every meal. Don’t miss the excellent vegetarian curries and paratha. All these complimentary venues get busy at peak times so it’s best to visit during the ‘green’ hours on the crowd flow chart posted outside each venue.

Genting Dream restaurants that aren’t free

You don’t need to spend a lot to enjoy a great meal at the for-a-fee restaurants on Genting Dream. One of my favourites was Blue Lagoon, the most affordable specialty dining venue on the ship. Blue Lagoon is open 24 hours a day and serves dishes such as stir fried prawns with basil leaves or satays for S$9 to S12 depending on what you order. Dishes are authentic (read: hot) and absolutely terrific.

Other good specialty dining choices include the well-priced gelataria on deck 8 and the upmarket Seafood Grill by Mark Best and Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best which is perfect for a special night out. Expect to pay around S$58 for a 200gm grilled Australian Wagyu flank steak, S$38 for a Wagyu burger and fries, or choose grilled free range chicken or black cod baked in tomato, chili, and olives for S$30.

Umi Uma has a sushi bar and multiple teppanyaki grills staffed by a team of enthusiastic specialist chefs. This teppanyaki was some of the best I’ve had anywhere, especially the melt-in-your-mouth steak. Teppanyaki prices at Umi Uma range from S$58 for a classic menu up to S$78 for the standout Genting Surf and Turf featuring juicy steak cooked to order and a generous serving of prawns.

All teppanyaki menus come with the usual accompaniments such as miso soup and salad. Even though there are multiple teppanyaki plates, you should definitely book early as Umi Uma is popular. If you fancy a lighter meal or would like to enjoy a serene lunch in elegant yet casual surrounds, head to Crystal Life Cuisine on Deck 15. Located next to the Crystal Life Spa, this spa café serves dishes such as avocado and corn enchiladas or wholemeal triple decker sandwiches with a fruit shake for S$17. The tucked away location of this for-a-fee dining venue makes it a good choice for chilling out on sea days and enjoying soothing sea views with a healthful snack.

Best Genting Dream bars

There are plenty of bars onboard but one of our favourite spots for a drink was the outdoor lounge area outside Mixt Cocktail Bar. This bar is your best choice for expertly mixed cocktails such as an espresso martini or icy cold mojito and table service is available so you can enjoy sail away without leaving your seat. If it’s too hot to sit outside or the weather isn’t the best, the elegant Palm Court on Deck 19 can only be accessed via a few of the forward elevators which means not many people find their way here.

With views out to sea and over the pool deck, it’s a great spot to watch the sunset and enjoy a relaxing glass of wine in sophisticated surrounds. Many bars on Genting Dream have a Happy Hour that is more like a Happy Evening as it lasts until midnight. Signage on top of the bar details when happy hour is on or you can ask the staff. There is also a Penfolds Wine Experience which is held at the Penfolds Wine Vault on deck 8 and includes much more than a taste of wines costing upwards of A$50 at your local bottle shop. The Penfolds Wine Experience costs S$48 per person and is ideal to do with a group of four or more wine lovers before dinner.

Genting Dream entertainment

If you enjoy lavish cruise ship shows with plenty of razzle dazzle, you’ll love the entertainment in the main theatre on Genting Dream. The ship’s company of entertainers includes not one but multiple troupes of dancers and singers. There is also a separate team of acrobats who wouldn’t look out of place at Cirque du Soleil. More entertainment is available throughout the day at a separate ‘in the round’ stage in the multi level casino. This venue hosts everything from acrobatic performances to fashion shows and bands and has a unique light up stage which changes to suit each act. Performances here are exceptional and offer plenty of variety. The only downside is smoking is allowed inside the casino which could hamper your enjoyment of this venue.

Genting Dream activities

Genting Dream has a four lane bowling alley on Deck 17. Games start at S$10 per person for off-peak bowling so it’s not exactly cheap, but it looked like fun. There is a video arcade and VR/AR gaming experience featuring immersive gaming plus simulators, bike racing arcade games etc. These are all paid-for activities.

There is a terrific kids waterplay area and a (very deep) swimming pool on Deck 18 which is ideal for water loving Aussies. Unlike the pools on most Australian-based ships, this one is never crowded. Genting Dream also has a mini-golf course, a rock climbing wall and several ropes courses plus an exhilarating zipline ride that goes over the edge of the ship, high above the waves. All of these activities are free.

On the final night of each cruise there is a live band and funky line dancing on the top deck (give it a go, it’s more fun that you might think) and a fireworks display high above the ship. If you enjoy dancing the night away Zouk Beach Club opens in the evening and stays open until late. On some nights, you can attend special events here for an additional fee.

Genting Dream waterslides

Genting Dream has five waterslides, including two speed slides with drops so steep they make grown men scream like little girls. You need to take off ALL your jewellery (even tiny stud earrings) to go on these waterslides. If you can’t remove your rings because they are too tight, cover them with a band aid and you’ll be fine. The three slides on the left are slower than the two speed slides on the right. The purple speed slide is slightly faster than the yellow one so do the yellow slide first if you’re feeling nervous. Each refreshing waterslide ride comes with a stair climb workout or three as you’ll want to do these slides more than once. It’s more fun than the gym and a great way to work off some of that great food.

Review of genting dream.

The 2016-built MS Genting Dream cruise ship was the first vessel in the fleet of the Chinese premium brand Dream Cruises (Genting Hong Kong/GHK-owned subsidiary company launched in November 2015). One of the world's largest passenger liners , the 151300-GT-ton vessel debuted in November 2016. Its former fleetmates were World Dream/Manara (2017/sistership), Resorts World One (1999-built as SuperStar Virgo, named Explorer Dream after the transfer from Star Cruises in 2019) and the larger Global Dream/Disney Adventure (2020/GLOBAL-class).

The vessel (IMO number 9733105) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311000319) and registered in Nassau .

Since May 2022, Genting Dream operates for Resorts World Cruises ( new travel brand ) established by GHK's former owner Lim Kok Thai.

MS Genting Dream's last drydock refurbishment was in 2023 (February 17 through March 1), being previously refurbished in 202 (January). Both drydocking renovation projects were conducted in Singapore (at Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard).

History - construction and ownership

In late-April 2022, Asian online media reported that Genting Dream becomes the first liner in the fleet of "Resorts World Cruises" - a Singapore -registered company (incorporated on March 9, 2022) established by Lim Kok Thay (Genting Group/Genting Cruise Lines). Also was reported that Resorts World Cruises is in negotiations with banks and investors to acquire Dream Cruises' other two vessels (Explorer Dream, World Dream).

The company's management team is led by Colin Au (CEO and Executive Director) and Michael Goh (President and International Sales Directors). Resorts World Cruises opened bookings for Genting Dream on May 18, 2022.

The parent company "Resorts World" is a Genting Group-owned subsidiary (Malaysian hospitality and casino franchise) and brand used across all Genting-owned resorts and casinos worldwide. Resorts World has ultra-premium properties (46 total/as of 2022) in Asia (Malaysia's Pahang, Terengganu, Langkawi-Kedah, Singapore's Sentosa Island, Philippines' Newport City-Pasay, Entertainment City-Paranaque, Macau's Nam Vam Lake), also in the USA (Winchester Nevada, Queens NYC, Kiamesha Lake NY, Miami Florida), Bahamas (North Bimini) and Europe (Solihull-Birmingham, England UK).

On May 18, 2022, at a news conference, Resorts World Cruises officially announced that as a "gesture of goodwill" the new company will offer complimentary FCCs/future cruise credits of "equivalent value" to all customers affected by World Dream's cancellations ( cruises to nowhere from Singapore/bookings for voyages scheduled for departure between March 2 and August 31, 2022). The FCCs were valid for the period June 15, 2022, through March 31, 2023, and applicable only to affected World Dream bookings that had not yet received any refund from the original booking source.

According to Colin Au (Resorts World Cruises' CEO and Executive Director, also GHK's former Deputy CEO), as the provisional liquidator couldn't revive the brand (Dream Cruises), they had worked with the Chinese lessors (Genting Dream's shipowner) and had decided to restart operations under the new "Resorts World" brand.

GHK is a global entertainment, hospitality, and leisure company based in Hong Kong . For its new Dream Cruises brand, GHK ordered two custom-built vessels to serve the Asian market, specifically China. GHK's other two cruise market segments were served by separate brands - Crystal Cruises (ultra-luxury) and Star Cruises (contemporary).

On October 7, 2013, Star Cruises announced that GHK signed a shipbuilding agreement with Meyer Werft ( Papenburg Germany ) for the construction of a new vessel for Star Cruises, with scheduled delivery in 2016-Q4. On February 10, 2014, was ordered a sistership, with scheduled delivery in 2017-Q4. Both vessels were with gross tonnage 150,000 GT tons and double-occupancy passenger capacity 3364.

However, later GHK decided to create a new brand (Dream Cruises) and both newbuilds were transferred to the new company. MS Genting World's (later renamed "MS World Dream") steel-cutting ceremony was held on February 9, 2015, at Meyer Werft Papenburg shipyard. MS Genting Dream debuted in November 2016. The sistership World Dream was launched in November 2017. On August 20, 2016, Genting Dream was floated out of the covered building dock 2 at Meyer Werft Papenburg.

Decks and Cabins

MS Genting Dream staterooms (1686 total) accommodate between 3376-3400 passengers served by 2020 crew, meaning a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.7, which is the highest in comparison to any Asia Pacific ship. The German-built vessel is also designed with spacious interiors.

~70% of all staterooms are with private step-out balconies, and 100+ cabins are connecting (with adjoining interior doors) making them suitable for families. Suite services include special perks, privileges, professional European butler service.

The largest accommodations are the Dream Grand Villas (sized 224 m2 / 2410 ft2). Other Dream Suite categories Executive (56-80 m2 / 600-860 ft2) and Deluxe (43 m2 / 460 ft2).

"THE PALACE" is a ship-within-ship concept/exclusive complex consisting of 154x premium Palace Suites (sized 37-40 m2 / 400-430 ft2), with exclusive dining and lounge venues/areas, butler service, suite-only perks. The 5-star luxury complex is sized nearly 10,000 m2 (108,000 ft2) and includes The Palace Restaurant, Gym, exclusive sundeck with a swimming pool. The all-inclusive luxury experience features Seafood Buffet (The Palace Restaurant), complimentary Premium Beverage package (in all onboard bars and restaurants), Captain's Welcome Cocktail Party, Crystal Life Cafe (healthy breakfast, vegetarian lunch), dedicated Kids Program (for children 2 to 12 yo), dedicated "Connoisseurs Circle" (enrichment program), complimentary fitness classes, complimentary shore excursions, priority services, specialty dining shipwide.

The boat has 18 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 10 with cabins.

Note: Deck 15 is actually the ship's "Deck 14". This enumeration is due to the fact that for the Chinese, numbers that include 4 are considered unlucky - similar to the Western practice about the number 13, and the Italians' number 17.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Genting Dream features 35 bars and restaurants, offering a wide choice of dining experiences for her guests. The restaurants offer regional cuisines, with an emphasis on Chinese and Asian dishes, as well as international flavors like Southeast Asian, Japanese, Italian and more. A 610 m wrap-around promenade is a special place for dining and offers seaside dining and lounging from early morning to late evening in various themed venues.

• Genting Dining Room (300 indoor seats) is a complimentary restaurant open for breakfast (7-10 am), lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm). Chinese dishes and vegetarian options are always available.
• Dream Dining Room (872 indoor seats / 370 upper & 502 lower level) is a complimentary restaurant open for breakfast (6-9 am), lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm). Chinese dishes and vegetarian options are always available.
• The Lido (629 indoor seats, 194 outdoor seats) is a complimentary buffet (self-serve) restaurant open for breakfast (7-10 am), lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm). Breakfast options include made-to-order dishes (omelets, pancakes, waffles). Lunch and dinner options also include made-to-order dishes (pasta, salads), fresh-baked pizzas, soups, carving stations (roasts), Asian entrees, vegetarian dishes, separate salad bar, fresh fish (catch of the day), desserts (incl sugar-free items). In November 2018, Dream Cruises introduced on Genting Dream Halal cuisine options, which made the liner currently the only one in Asia with JAKIM Halal food certification (granted by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia). The Halal food (permissible by the traditional Islamic law) is offered at a dedicated buffet section in the Lido Restaurant. Among the popular dishes are Ayam Madu (honey chicken), Pari Asam Pedas (stingray), Opor Ayam (chicken in coconut milk), Tandoori Kambing (mutton), Gulai Daging Kawah (beef), Tempe Goreng Pedas (fried soya bean cake).
• Silk Road & Cabaret is a Chinese specialty restaurant (144 seats, area 355 m2 / 3.820 ft2, at surcharge, reservations-only) with original dishes created by Asian Chefs, an extensive wine list and an extensive Baiju list. In the evenings (11 pm till late), Silk Road transforms into the Cabaret (show lounge).
• BISTRO by Mark Best (165 indoor seats / Chef's Table has 10 indoor seats) is an a la carte priced restaurant (reservations-only) serving western dishes (international cuisine specialties), fine wines (by the glass), a selection of domestic and international beers, specialty coffees/teas. The BISTRO is open for breakfast (7-10 am), lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm).
• BISTRO Chef's Table (10 indoor seats) is part of the Bistro restaurant. This is a Private Table (dining room) available for individual and group booking. Each of the dishes is paired with fine wines. Chef's Table becomes active only when at least 8 passengers book in.
• BISTRO Grill Outdoor (54 outdoor seats) is also part of the Bistro restaurant. The grill is reservations only and opens for lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm).
• Umi Uma (44 indoor seats / 42 outdoor seats) is a Japanese cuisine specialty restaurant (at surcharge, reservations required) open for dinner-only - between 5-8 pm.
• Umi Uma Tepanyaki (78 indoor seats) is a live cooking venue where dishes are prepared by the ship's master chefs. The restaurant is at a surcharge and opens for dinner-only - between 5-8 pm.
• Umi Uma Sushi Bar (13 indoor seats) is a specialty restaurant (at surcharge, reservations required) open for lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm). The sushi bar offers signature dishes and an extensive Sake menu.
• Lobby Bar (40 seats, open between 7 am - 1 am) serves the lobby area with non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.
• BreadBox is a bread shop (onboard bakery) / Snacks & Refreshment bar selling fresh-baked gourmet bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, specialty coffees (Espresso, Latte, Cappucino, Viennese), Tiffin take away menu. BreadBox is open between 10 am - 8 pm.
• Lobby Cafe (7 seats, open between 7 am - 8 pm) is a takeaway cafe bar offering Southeast Asian favorites. To go dishes are in Tiffin boxes.
• Bar 360 (27 seats) offers premium Bourbons, cocktails and other beverages.
• Blue Lagoon (172 seats) is a 24-hour open restaurant (at a surcharge) with an a la carte priced menu and chefs live cooking stations. The restaurant also offers specialty coffees/teas and gourmet desserts (incl ice cream. Blue Lagoon is closed only between 4-5 am.
• Red Lion Pub (75 seats) is an English pub bar serving draft beers, international bottled beers, a variety of pub drinks and snacks, also full pub food menu. The pub is open 24 hours. The lunch menu is served between 12-noon - 2 pm, and dinner menu - between 6-10 pm.
• Johnnie Walker House (first at sea)
• BAR CITY 256 indoor / 177 outdoor seats - total 341) is a lounge complex that includes The Whisky House, Mixt and Bubbles.
• The Whisky House (30 indoor / 47 outdoor seats) offers an impressive selection of top-brand whiskies, exclusive service, whisky tasting courses matched with gourmet meals paired with each vintage. The Whisky House is open between 11 am - 12-midnight. Bookings for special and whisky tasting events are required.
• Mixt (159 indoor / 44 outdoor seats) is a beverages only / cocktail bar with a separate snack menu.
• Bubbles (50 seats) is a premium Champagne bar lounge open between 11 am - 12-midnight.
• Boba Cha (14 outdoor seats) is open between 10 am - 6 pm and offers non-alcoholic beverages.
• Gelateria (20 outdoor seats) is an ice cream bar open between 10 am - 6 pm. The a la carte priced menu has a variety of ice creams, toppings, sherbets, frozen yogurt, fresh strawberries, home-baked cookies.
• Hot Pot (108 seats, open between 5-10 pm) is an outdoor dinner-only restaurant (at surcharge, reservations-only) offering poultry, meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes.
• Crystal Life Cuisine (61 indoor seats) is a healthy food restaurant (at a surcharge) also offering fresh-squeezed juices for the gym users. Crystal Life Cuisine is open for breakfast (8-9 am), lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm), and reservations are required.
• Genting Club (60 indoor seats) is an exclusive (Dream Mansion passengers only) restaurant with an exclusive wine list. Genting Club is open for breakfast (7-10 am), lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm). Reservations are required.
• World Grill (258 outdoor seats) is an outdoor complimentary dining venue open for breakfast (7-10 am), lunch (12-noon - 2 pm) and dinner (5-8 pm). Throughout the day, World Grill serves the pool deck with fast food/snacks. In addition to the grilled food, during breakfast and lunchtimes is offered the Lido's menu.
• Pool Deck Bar is open between 7 am - 6 pm and serves with drinks at the swimming pool area. The bar offers cocktails and mocktails and serves a total of 380 outdoor seats plus 330 sunbeds.
• The Living Room (42 indoor seats) is an exclusive (Dream Mansion passengers only) lounge manned by Butlers and open between 7 am - 1 am. The lounge serves complimentary drinks (upon request) and snacks (in the mornings and afternoons).
• Dream Mansion Lounge (31 indoor seats) is an exclusive (Dream Mansion passengers only) lounge open between 7 am - 1 am. It is manned by Butlers and offers complimentary beverages.
• Genting Club Restaurant & Lounge (37 indoor seats) is an exclusive (Dream Mansion passengers only) with an exclusive list of premium wines (offered complimentary by the glass). Genting Club Lounge is open between 7-10 am, 12-noon - 2 pm and 5-8 pm. Here are served various complimentary beverages, including specialty coffees/teas.
• Sun Deck Bar (portside/starboard); Sundeck Bar Portside and Sundeck Bar Starboard have 38 outdoor seats (each) and serve refreshments (incl beer, cocktails, mocktails) between 7 am and 6 pm.
• Dream Mansion Cafe (140 indoor seats) is an exclusive snack and refreshments venue open between 7 am - 1 am.
• The Market is an outdoor venue serving non-alcoholic drinks only.
• Palm Court (101 indoor seats, area 495 m2 / 5.328 ft2) is a premium bar (open between 7 am - 12-midnight) with Afternoon High Tea service (between 2:30-5 pm).
• Function 8 (88 indoor, 26 outdoor seats, area 254 m2 / 2.734 ft2) is open between 10 am – 6 pm and offers non-alcoholic beverages.

In late-July 2020, Dream Cruises debuted (on MS Explorer Dream) the "Flexi-Feast" - a completely customized shipboard dining (food and beverage) concept that allows passengers to choose from more venues. Upon boarding the ship, cruisers receive a set of complimentary dining vouchers which can be used at designated restaurants, as well as OBC (onboard credits) for ordering meals at specialty restaurants, beverages at bars and also for room-service orders.

Genting Dream has the world's first-at-sea "Penfolds Wine Vault" via partnership with the Australian winemaker Penfolds) served by certified wine connoisseurs and offering an array of rare wines and premium vintages from the winery. The Vault's wine list includes unique selections like "Penfolds Bin 170" (celebrating the winemaker&rsquo;s 170th anniversary) and "Penfolds Grange 2010" (a vintage top-rated by highly respected international critics) and "Penfolds Yattarna" (a special Chardonnay). The unique venue (open between 11 am - 12 midnight) offers food pairing (expert chefs and sommeliers select the finest wines to match the dishes) and also hosts wine-tasting events (reservation-only as part of the cruise brand's onboard enrichment programming.

The exclusive Genting-Penfolds partnership also resulted in the ultra-rare "Penfolds Aevum Imperial Service Ritual" - a distinctive vessel specially handcrafted by Saint-Louis Crystal (European glass- and crystal maker). It is also one of only five in the world. Designed to hold the 2012 Penfolds Grange Imperial in honor of the winemaker's flagship brand and one of the most highly regarded Grange vintages, the Aevum Imperial Service Ritual (hand-blown crystal masterpiece objet d'art) aboard Genting Dream is the only one showcased at sea.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

Plenty of recreation venues are available aboard Genting Dream, including multiple pool types, 6 water slides, rope-climbing course, playrooms, card rooms, mahjong, bowling alley, and duty-free shopping. health and wellness facilities include state-of-the-art Western and Asian spas, Health Club, Beauty Salon, Barbershop, and enhance the guest experience.

Among the ship's most popular public spaces are the Zodiac Theater (999-seat main show lounge), numerous food and drink venues, Dream Palace (private clubhouse), Zouk Beach Club, outdoor adventure zone, Crystal Life (Spa and Fitness complex), Bistro (restaurant by Australian chef Mark Best), Johnnie Walker House, Little Pandas Club (kids facilities). The ship is also famous for its state-of-the-art outdoor LED lighting system.

Resorts World Cruises' Genting Dream itineraries

For Resorts World Cruises, Genting Dream's itinerary program is currently based on homeporting in Singapore (docking at MBCCS-Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore). The liner arrived at MBCCS on May 29th, 2022, and was scheduled to start operations for Resorts World on June 15th (Maiden Voyage out of Singapore).

In early-June 2022, Resorts World announced that the brand's inaugural schedule will include Singapore roundtrips to destinations in Indonesia ( Bintan Island and Barelang Islands/Batam-Rempang-Galang), Malaysia ( Port Klang-Kuala Lumpur City , Port Dickson-Malacca City , Georgetown-Penang Island ), Thailand ( Phuket , Krabi ) and Indonesia (Bali Island's northern coastline).

• The first 2-Night Indonesia "Bintan and Batam Weekend Getaway" departed on July 1, 2022.
• The 3-Night Indonesia and Malaysia "Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Penang" voyages depart on Sundays, while the 2-Night "Kuala Lumpur and Malacca" voyages depart on Wednesdays. 
• The Thailand and Indonesia program started in October 2022.

On July 18, 2022, was inaugurated Genting Dream's homeporting in Port Klang/Kuala Lumpur.

• 2-night roundtrips from Kuala Lumpur (to Singapore) depart on Thursdays/Saturdays
• 3-night roundtrips from Kuala Lumpur (to Penang/Singapore) depart on Mondays.
• Departures from Singapore are on Wednesdays/Fridays/Sundays.
• Since July 22, 2022, are operated cruises-to-nowhere from Singapore (2-night "High Seas Weekend Getaway") departing on Fridays.

Resorts World Cruises' dual homeporting targeted the ~10 million population of Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia) living within a short drive distance of Port Klang. With the Kuala Lumpur Airport located nearby, foreign tourists now have more flexibility in choosing airlines, flights and fares.

Dream Cruises' Genting Dream itineraries

When operated by Dream Cruises, Genting Dream had 3 official homeports - Hong Kong , Sanya and Guangzhou (Nansha Port) . The vessel targeted residents of China's Pearl Delta and Hainan regions, as well as fly-cruisers served by the airports of Guangzhou, Macau, Hong Kong, Sanya, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai.

Genting Dream's itinerary program started with year-round 2-night weekend cruises from Guangzhou-Nansha (departures each Friday) to Hong Kong, and 5-night itineraries (departures each Sunday) to Danang Vietnam , Sanya and Halong Bay Vietnam . The ship also offered 7-night itineraries out of Hong Kong to Guangzhou, Danang, Sanya, Halong Bay, and Shenzhen/Zhuhai. Sanya roundtrip itineraries were 7-night (to Guangzhou, Shenzhen/Zhuhai, Halong Bay, Danang, Hong Kong).

During Summer, the ship also operated 7-night Guangzhou roundtrips to Japan, with 2 seadays followed by Naha (Okinawa Island) and Miyakojima .

In 2018, Genting Dream was homeported in Singapore. Between early December 2017 and late March 2018, the ship operated on a series of 5-night roundtrip itineraries (Sunday departures) combined with 2-night weekend mini-cruises to destinations in Strait of Malacca and the Java Sea. Passengers also had the choice to combine Malacca Strait and the Java Sea voyages into a 12-night B2B cruise , with the option of spending the weekend either onboard or in a Singapore hotel. Between April and October 2018, the ship's schedule had listed destinations in the South China Sea and the Java Sea, visiting ports in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam.

Departing from Singapore from December 3, 2017, thru March 25, 2018:

• 2 Nights Weekend Mini Cruise (departures every Friday)
• 5 Nights Singapore to Kuala Lumpur-Penang-Phuket (departures every Sunday on the odd week)

Starting July 6, 2018, Genting Dream includes Pulau Bintan island as call port on 2-night weekend mini-cruise itinerary roundtrip from Singapore. The ship docks directly at Bintan Resorts area. In January 2017, Dream Cruises announced the inaugural cruise itineraries of their first newbuild Genting Dream. The homeporting in Singapore (starting December 3, 2017) made it the first large-sized cruise ship based there for year-round operations. Genting Dream is the latest generation vessel (Germany-built) and is calling at more than 10 ports in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam during 2018.

The vessel (Meyer Neptun yard/hull number S712) has volume 150695 GT-tons, DWT-deadweight 15370 tons, mx width 44 m (with the bridge wings), max draught 8,6 m. The powerplant is based on MAN B&W marine diesel engines (model 14V48/60B) with combined output 62,4 MW (83680 hp).

Before Resorts World Cruises, the registered shipowner were three Genting Hong Kong Ltd-owned companies (Xiang CR18 HK International Ship Lease Co Ltd, Sea 172 Leasing Co Ltd, Compass Shipping 32 Co Ltd) while the registered operator was GENTING CRUISE LINES.

The vessel's physical construction/assembly officially started on December 4, 2015, with the keel-laying ceremony held at Meyer Werft GmbH's Neptun yard in Papenburg Germany . During the ceremony, a massive keel block (number 2 / one of the ship's all 92 building blocks) was lifted into the dock to officially start the assembly process. GHK's Chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay laid the traditional "lucky coin" (a good fortune symbol) under the block to bless the new vessel.

The vessel was floated out from drydock on August 20, 2016. Its conveyance (northbound route to North Seas along Ems River) started on September 18, leaving the Papenburg shipyard at around 2 pm. It entered the North Sea waters on Sept 19, at around 6 pm. After the scheduled sea trials, the ship docked in Bremerhaven (at Columbus Cruise Center).

On November 14, 2016, was the christening ceremony held at Guangzhou (Port Nansha) . The ship's godmother is Mrs. Puan Sri Cecilia Lim - wife of Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay. He is Chairman and CEO of GHK (Genting Hong Kong) and second son of Genting Group's founder Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong. The naming ceremony was attended by over 900 distinguished guests, including numerous VIPs (prominent Chinese government officials, top executives from the cruise industry and shipping trade). Among the VIP guests were Cai Zhaolin (Guangzhou's Vice Mayor), Zeng Xiaofeng (Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province's Deputy Director), Chen Hongxian (Guangzhou Port's Chairman), Cai Jinlong (Guangzhou Port's General Manager). The welcome aboard event was held at the ship's Zodiac Theater (999-seat show lounge) led by Thatcher Brown (Dream Cruises' President). Next spoke Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay (GHK's Chairman and CEO). Followed the traditional for China exchange of gifts.

On October 12, 2016, the vessel was officially delivered to Dream Cruises by Meyer Werft in Bremerhaven. Ships' hull art (titled "Voyage of a Lover’s Dream”) is by the Chinese artist Jacky Tsai.

Wartsila Funa was the supplier of the ship's unique external "Dynamic Exterior Lighting" system. The order was placed in 2016-Q1. The innovative lighting system provides stunning visual effects (color, movement, and video) to the vessel's exterior. The technology is based on custom-designed and individually controlled LED RGBW lighting units. Wartsila Funa specializes in audio, video and lighting control design for large land-based public facilities (including theme parks, attractions, museums) and for cruise ships.

Ship's first Captain (Master) was Jukka Silvennoinen.

In late-September 2019, GHK (shipowner) sold Genting Dream (via sale-and-leaseback deal) to a consortium of three Chinese banks. The liner was sold for USD 900 million (~EUR 805 million) or 80% of its current market value (EUR 1,055 billion / USD 1,18 billion). According to a previous filing, as of June 30, 2019, the vessel's unaudited net asset value was ~USD 862,5 million (~EUR 777,3 M). The deal was finalized on January 15, 2020. The liner was immediately bareboat chartered (leased back to GHK) for 12 years, which means it will be purchased back by GHK in 2031.

The vessel's sale and leaseback transaction was with a 4-party consortium of Chinese financial companies - Bocomm Leasing (Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co Ltd, 2007-founded), CMB Financial Leasing Co Ltd (part of China Merchants Bank), CCB Financial Leasing Corporation Ltd (part of China Construction Bank) and CDB Leasing (China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co Ltd). GHK's Financial advisor was DNB Markets (2003-founded, part of DNB Bank ASA / fka DnB NOR Bank).

Genting Dream refurbishments review

In January 2020, the ship was drydocked for 3 days at Sembcorp Marine Shipyard ( Singapore ) for general maintenance works and technical updates. During the drydock was installed a new dual water hybrid scrubber (exhaust gas cleaning system, supplied by Valmet) and 2 new overboard discharge valves (for the Valmet scrubbers). Maintenance works also included hull cleaning, swimming pools modifications (for reducing the vessel's draft/draught) and equipment tests - conducted by specialists from the companies Wartsila (engines), ABB (propulsion system) and DNV GL (classification society). Refurbishment works / new flooring received the World Buffet (Lido restaurant).

Genting Dream was last drydock refurbished in 2023 (February 17 - March 1) at Singapore's Sembcorp Shipyard. The drydocking was mainly for regular maintenance (technical and class works).

Itineraries 2017-2018

Genting Dream is departing from Singapore between December 3 (2017) and March 25 (2018), operating on the following itinerary routes:

• 5-Night Singapore-Kuala Lumpur-Penang-Phuket Cruise (Every Sunday on Odd Week)
• 5-Night Singapore-Surabaya-North Bali Cruise (Every Sunday on Even Week)
• 12-Night B2B cruise (back-to-back) combining the above 3 itineraries with the alternative of a land hotel instead of the weekend cruise.

In September 2017, CLIA Australasia (abbrev "Cruise Lines International Association") held its annual "Masters Conference 2017" onboard Genting Dream. The conference sessions were lead by Scott Koepf (motivational speaker) and were focused on the cruise industry's trends and how travel consultants can benefit from the sector’s growth. The annual event is open to consultants with "CLIA Ambassador" level accreditation and employed by CLIA member travel agencies. Masters Conference 2017 commenced in Hong Kong (China) on September 16. All booked travel agents enjoyed 1-night pre-cruise accommodation before boarding the ship for a 5-night cruise to Japan visiting Naha (Okinawa Island) and Miyakojima . Participation fees were included in cruise prices (USD 1880 pp double occupancy/airfare excluded).

Anyone planning to go on cruise and can’t decide whether book GD (Genting Dream) or Royal Caribbean - allow me to share my recent Genting Dream Cruise on a 4 days 3 nites to Port Klang ... I have also been on Royal Caribbean Cruise twice and let me say, if food is important than Genting Dream is ideal as they serve a variety of indian and Asian cuisine but the food is sub-standard There is no fine dining setting and no supper and you are limited to 3 main meals - no free supper or tea on GD unlike RC! my friends and I (20 in all) did not thoroughly enjoy the cruise at all as (1) food was terrible; (2) stuck in Port Klang for 10 hours with nothing to do (as it costs about $70 to take the bus to KL!) ; (3) for those who like gaming - ie casino; take the cruise to nowhere as you can play but whilst you are at the port you cant do so..... the shows are nothing fantastic and we dint bother about it.... As compared to Royal Caribbean - it is more defined and food is much better - they even have free tea/coffees throughout the cruise and even free supper room service (GD do not have) - programs are much better; dinning experience is better and even the international buffet is better than GD - the food in GD is like for masses of sub-standard food ! My vote go on RC And the embarkation and disembarkation on GD is horrendous at the cruise centre and on board the ship !

When you take a taxi make sure you know which Terminal to go to. Princess goes to the new one. You would think that a ship would be easy to so, not necessarily.

We have to in board cruise from here we are almost 3000+ people in group counters were 20 but staff available to make cards were only 5..we onboard in 5hrs ..too hectic not impressed with such a slow services

Genting Dream cruise ship with around 3000 pax starts and ends at Singapore Cruise Centre. We made the mistake of reaching there soon after our flight landed in Singapore. Better to stay at the airport, because this place does not open before 10am. No place to sit, no AC, no washroom even. After opening, it was crowded, because we were entering a large ship. But there is a washroom and a simple eating place and the staff is very helpful in managing the crowd. Checked in baggage can take even one hour to get delivered to your cabin, so keep some essentials in your day pack. When leaving the ship, checked baggage has to be left outside your cabin before 1 am or else you have to take it out yourself, which is tough because of long passages and many steps.

Love this place, quick check in, amazing customer service. "I need to fill 100 characters minimum if not I cant post"

This place is crazy. Well served by buses, an mrt station and taxis, just opposite the CBD but it’s a mess inside with snaking lines and mass confusion about the checking in process. Not much to do here except wait in line. There are a few sad souvenir shops and one lonesome cafe.

Is a Cruise to Nowhere worth it? Absolutely! At under $400 per pax, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4D/3N stay on Genting’s World Dream cruise ship and would totally do it again if we could. If you’ve been hesitating on whether to book a trip, here’s my review and I hope it helps with all the burning questions you have on how a cruise to nowhere will be like!

Pre-boarding Process

Covid-19 swab test.

For Dream Cruises, we had to take an Antigen Rapid Test (ART) before you board the cruise. This is all done on the same day, so you don’t have to go out of your way for an extra trip down at all.

You’ll be given an allocated swab test timing once you have done your online check-in (up to a week in advance before your sailing date). We checked in as soon as we got our email notification, and the allocated swab test time was 5pm i.e. 4 hours before departure.

Lest you think the swab test is scary, it really isn’t! In fact, it felt more like a tickle up my nose – I was expecting it to go a lot deeper / higher up my nose and had to clarify with the swab test administrator that it was done correctly, lol! 

It took about 20 – 30 minutes for the results to be out, and we had to wait in a separate waiting area before being allowed to board. All in all, the whole process was faster than we expected.

Aside from your TraceTogether token/app, you will also be needing the boarding card which will be issued to you at the check-in counter (and you’ll need to bring it around with you everywhere on the cruise).

It is recommended to download the Dream Cruises app before you board the ship as well, which has everything you’ll need for your cruise including pre-bookings of events, shows and restaurants.

If you’re pregnant like me, note that you will need a “Fit to Sail” letter from your gynae and that mummies beyond 23 weeks of pregnancy will not be allowed to board, for safety reasons. So…do your babymoon before that like I did! 😉

Accommodation

Room and toilet.

I opted for the cheapest room – a Balcony Stateroom – which came with a queen bed, a long sofa, an attached bathroom and a private balcony deck. Lest you think cheapest room = worst, that was totally not true and I LOVED our room!

The bathroom was spacious enough even though I was juggling my 20-week-big pregnant belly, and toiletries (hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body foam, body moisturiser) were provided. The fragrance was great and I didn’t have any skin sensitivity from the toiletries, but the real surprise was in the conditioner, because it was actually able to get rid of the frizz from swimming in the pool!  Bath towels and toilet paper were also provided, together with a floor mat.

Other provided items

Another pleasant surprise was the hairdryer, which was wayyy better than what most hotels normally provide, and didn’t leave my hair roasted or frizzy after using it. 

Bathrobes came in handy when we had to go to the pool, and you’ll find them in your wardrobe (most people don’t realize this!).

The TV had on-demand videos which are FREE, and the selection of movies were awesome! We watched Fast and Furious, The High Note and Gemini Man on our trip.  You can view the entire selection on my Instagram highlights here .

There’s also 2 bottled water provided each day, and coffee/tea if you’re boiling any water in the kettle (we didn’t, as we got all our drinks at Lido each time).

There are 4 inclusive restaurants (i.e. no extra surcharges) on the World Dream cruise ship:

• Lido (international buffet with halal options)
• Upper Deck Dining (Western)
• Lower Deck Dining (Chinese)
• Lido 24-hour outdoors snack bar

Entertainment

There were so many entertainment options on the ship that we couldn’t finish them all, even though we had 2 full days onboard! 

Here’s what we did try out:

• Giant Chess
• Table Tennis at the SportsPlex
• Swimming Pool – pre-bookings required, which we did on the first morning
• Faith the musical – featuring tap dance, ballet, acrobatics, aerial silk, aerial hoop, trampoline acts and more! We loved this so much that we went for it twice!
• Vision by Vincent Vignaud – magic show
• Yoga – taught by one of the professional acrobats who starred in Faith (and she provided pregnancy-friendly variants on many of the moves for me – thank you!)
• Jackpot Bingo – this was the highlight for the guys, and they spent $60 each on 6 bingo tickets!
• Key Master – an extremely appealing but frustrating machine game
• Swimming pool – the length is pretty short so don’t expect much of an exercise here, although I did do my 20 laps before our 1-hour allocated timeslot was up.
• Jacuzzi – the guys tried this, but I didn’t because it isn’t suitable for pregnant mummies. My husband joked that the warm water would “cook” the baby, LOL!

Here’s what we skipped:

• Waterslides – not suitable for pregnant ladies
• Ropes course – not suitable for pregnant ladies
• Flying fox – not suitable fo pregnant ladies
• VR games at the Esc Experience Lab – we visited the place, but pregnant ladies aren’t suitable for many of the activities so we ended up not doing any 🙁
• Dream Boys – a male striptease show

Gambling / Casino

Once the ship sails, the casino / gambling dens are open 24/7! We only played a few games for fun since we’re not big on gambling, but there were many people who were playing until the wee hours of the night.

Final Thoughts

Safety and hygiene.

I had pretty low expectations, and packed clothes that I wouldn’t mind getting dirty because I wasn’t sure if the public seats or areas would be clean. However, as it turns out, I could have just brought all my prettiest dresses without worries because I was honestly impressed and blown away by the safety standards and hygiene levels observed on the ship, including:

• Check-in at each venue: with your boarding pass and TraceTogether token/app
• Social distancing: there were Cruise Ambassadors who went around ensuring guests who weren’t from the same group were of a safe distance apart
• Pre-booking: to reduce crowding, although this provided some inconvenience (worth it for the safety though)
• Toilets: there wasn’t a single dirty toilet I encountered which surprised me! It was always clean and dry no matter where I went

Seasickness? Nope.

Can you use singapore rediscovers vouchers nope., is the ship family-friendly / wheelchair-friendly, tip: packing list.

• Basic toiletries (facial wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, razors, any skincare routine items)
• 3 smart casual outfits – I was always in a dress, whereas the guys were in a T-shirt and shorts / bermudas
• 3 sets of underwear
• 1 sports outfit – or maybe 2 if you want to spend more days outdoors at the Sportsplex
• 1 swimming costume / bikini 
• Chargers – for your electronics
• Shoes – 1 slippers / casual and 1 sports shoes

I’d love to go on another cruise later this year again once I’ve given birth, and this time, bring along our parents and children. Now, if only Royal Caribbean would sponsor me next… well, I can continue dreaming 😛

Cruise to Nowhere Review of Dream Cruises’ World Dream: Things to do Onboard!

Cruise to Nowhere is still one of the easiest getaways from Singapore. While the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) scheme picks up pace with the announcement of VTL to Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Britain and the United States without quarantine from 19 October onwards, there are still additional costs required for tests. This time, we went “overseas” with a 4D3N Cruise to Nowhere onboard the World Dream by Dream Cruises . Here’s what to expect…

Cruise to Nowhere Dream Cruises World Dream – Is it Safe?

As you can see from the safe cruising guide, there are many measures that Dream Cruise has put in place to ensure your safety onboard . These include

Preventive Measures (Part 1)—Embarkation & Disembarkation – Guests aged 7 & above are required to download the TraceTogether APP or bring along the TraceTogether Token. TRACEY will be issued to all guests upon embarkation. – Mandatory COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test (ART) prior to embarkation for all guests. – Mandatory temperature screening and pre-boarding health declarations for guests aged 7 & above. – Infrared fever screening system at the ship gangway. – Higher frequency with increased levels of sanitization and disinfection at the ship gangway and passenger walkways. – Stringent checks for all embarking individuals including crew travel documents. – Online check-in for guests: receive designated arrival time at the cruise terminal to minimize crowd congestion. – Additional waiting areas for cruise boarding & disembarkation (with staggered times.) – Compliance with all local port and health authorities’ regulations.

Preventive Measures (Part 2)—Guest Accommodations – Higher frequency with increased levels of sanitization and disinfection in guests’ cabins with hospital grade disinfectants, including: (1) Twice daily wipe-down of guest cabins and guests cabin corridors (2) Fogging of vacant guest cabins and guests cabin corridors – Clean and disinfect guest bathrooms with heavy duty alkaline bathroom cleaner and disinfectant. – Timely removal of food items from cabins to prevent spoilage and cultivation of microorganisms and bacteria. – Timely housekeeping cabin turnover; bedsheets and linens professionally cleaned and disinfected at high temperatures. – Injection of diluted cleaning solution into drains to avoid clogged pipes and preventing bacterial growth. – In case of sickness, thorough cleaning and disinfection with hospital grade disinfectant and fogging the cabin after.

Preventive Measures (Part 3)—Common Public Areas – All public areas on board will undergo a two-tier sanitization process with thorough cleansing, fogging and wiping using hospital grade disinfectant. On-board Ship Venues and Cleaning Frequency: Elevators: Every 2 hours Public areas and facilities: 2 – 10 times daily Spa and amenities: Min 2 times daily Other Public Areas: To adjust disinfection frequency accordingly – Common public areas will be sanitized from once daily to 2 – 4 times daily and frequent touchpoints such as handrails, lift buttons, table-tops, door handles etc. will be sterilized every hour or less during peak hours (Embarkation & Disembarkation time, returning from shore excursions, meal periods.) – Frequent usage of heavy-duty neutral PH floor-cleaning agent to disinfect all floor areas of the ship. – Sanitizer dispensers available at various public areas and crew members stationed at key onboard venues to provide hand sanitation. – Guests are to practice social distancing. – All guests are required to wear a face mask except when dining and engaging in sports activities.

Preventive Measures (Part 4)—Food Hygiene Practices & Standards – F&B restaurants / bar areas, including galleys, will be cleaned and sanitized 3 times daily, during and after service. – Guests are encouraged to wash hands before entry and use sanitizer dispensers available at F&B outlet entrances/exits. – Guest seating will ensure ample spacing; disposable cutlery will be provided, upon request. – Self-service at F&B buffet restaurants will be suspended. All food & beverages will be served to guests by crew members wearing face masks & disposable gloves. – Stringent procurement guidelines will be enforced and product sourcing from highly affected regions will be strictly prohibited.

Preventive Measures (Part 5)—Entertainment & Recreational Activities – The theatre will be sanitized before and after each show; 3D glasses disinfected before and after guest usage (if applicable.) – Cleaning and disinfection of all toys, games and Kids’ Club facilities twice daily and/or after every use. – All duty-free shops and entertainment venues will be disinfected twice daily before and after service. – All recreational equipment will be disinfected every 2 hours before guest usage. – On board venues operating at reduced capacity to provide ample space. – Sanitizer dispensers will be readily available at various venues including entertainment venue entrances/exits. – Spa & Gym facilities will be sanitized prior to and after usage by guests.

Preventive Measures (Part 6)—Fresh Air Ventilation Systems – 100% external fresh air is filtered and supplied to each guest & crew cabin, and onboard public areas. – No re-circulation of air between cabins or within the ship. – Air filters and cooling coils thoroughly checked, cleaned and replaced to ensure healthy air quality.

Preventive Measures (Part 7)—Medical Centre – Isolated wards available in the Medical Centre and cabins can be converted into quarantine rooms if required. – Contaminated items and medical waste will be properly sealed and disposed according to health and safety guidelines. – Used face masks and protective equipment disposed at designated central collection points. – Medical equipment and waste bins cleaned, disinfected and washed twice daily with hospital grade disinfectant. – 2 Doctors including an Infection Control Officer (ICO) will be present on every sailing.

Preventive Measures (Part 8)—Crew Members Practices & Standards – Daily temperature checks. – Reduction of crew movement. – Medical Centre Isolation Area staff related to suspected cases are required to: Adequate Personal Protective Equipment (face mask, eye protection, disposable gloves & disposal outer garment) follow proper hand washing practices before and after work duty update personal health information daily – All Frontline crew are required to wear face masks. – Housekeeping and F&B crew must wear disposable gloves. – Designated crew may also wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required. – All crew to use anti-bacterial hand soap for at least 20 sec to sanitize hands. – Provide Training Workshops and pertinent information on health and safety preventive measures. – All crew had passed stringent health screening & quarantine protocols in accordance with local government requirements.

With so many preventive measures in place, we felt that it was thoroughly safe to do a Cruise To Nowhere with Dream Cruises ! For more details of all the measures by Genting Dream Cruise, click here .

Is it too “Troublesome” to do Tests for Cruise to Nowhere with Dream Cruises World Dream

With Dream Cruises, the ART test is simplified . Just follow the scheduled timing on your cruise ticket and take the ART on site at Marina Bay Cruise Terminal. The results will be out within 20 minutes and once cleared, you’ll be able to proceed with the check-in procedures.

Remember to refresh your TraceTogether app to get the results as it will be about 5 to 10 minutes faster than the notification via SMS.

Cruise to Nowhere with Dream Cruises World Dream – Dining Options

Dining is one of the main features of a Cruise to Nowhere. Onboard the World Dream , there are 3 complimentary dining options :

1. Dream Dining Room (Upper) for Asian Cuisine 2. Dream Dining Room (Lower) for Western Cuisine 3. The Lido for International Buffet

World Dream – Dream Dining Room (Upper) (Deck 8)

Dream Dining Room (Upper) serves up Asian Cuisine onboard the World Dream. In general, Dream Cruises has one of the better complimentary asian food as compared to other most other cruises. Except for the one breakfast that was rather disappointing , we were rather satisfied with the rest of our meals here.

World Dream – Dream Dining Room (Lower) (Deck 7)

Although there were several comments online to say that the Western food at Dream Dining Room (Lower) is not that good, we thought it was still quite ok. Though, not as good as “the other” cruise line, it was still quite decent. The fish that we had were mostly quite fresh and we were impressed with the Oktoberfest menu that we had on the last day – the boiled pork knuckle was delish! Also, at DDR (Lower), you’ll be able to enjoy nice sea views, remember to request for it. Being there 15 minutes before opening hours will almost guarantee a seat of your preferred choice!

World Dream – The Lido (Deck 16)

We preferred to dine at the Dream Dining Rooms because we’re served at the tables and are able to get refills on any dish that we like. However, for those who are die hard buffet fans, fret not, you still will be able to enjoy buffets at the Lido . We enjoyed the roast beef with loads of fatty bits on one of the evenings and if you head over for breakfasts, don’t forget the now-famous Nasi Lemak! The chili and curry chicken were sedap!

24 Hours Snack Outlet – Right outside the Lido at Deck 16

Beside these 3 dining options, there is a 24 hours snack area right outside the Lido at Deck 16 . Here, you’ll be able to get snacks such as fries and drumlets. Also, after 10pm at night, you’ll get “mains” such as the vermicelli that you see in the picture above. You can choose to dine here or for those who are unvaccinated or prefer to have the snacks in the room, you can choose to take-away as well.

World Dream Specialty Dining Restaurants

There are also several specialty dining options such as Seafood Grill, Prime Steakhouse, Silk Road Chinese Restaurant, Umi Uma and Blue Lagoon for various seafood, steak, Japanese and Singaporean fare. This time, we tried out the Hot Pot option. Why? Because of its al fresco hot pot dining experience that allows you to enjoy views of the vast oceans while gathering around a nice hot pot for beautiful conversations. These specialty dining restaurants come at additional costs but you can buy some F&B credits to help offset the overall bills :

What are the Complimentary Activities on Dream Cruises World Dream Cruise to Nowhere?

There are actually many complimentary activities onboard the World Dream . Let’s start from the Sports Activities Centre at Deck 18…

Sports Activities Centre (Deck 18)

The most popular activities of Rock Climbing and Rope Course are on a first-come-first-serve basis while other activities such as basketball, table tennis and mini golf can be booked in advance. We’d strongly recommend the Rope Course. The course itself can be quite exciting and challenging. Best of all, it ends with a flying fox over the ocean – an exhilarating end to the activity!

Swimming and Water Slides

During the pandemic, you will need to make bookings for swimming pool slots. For details, do refer to our pre-cruise preparations post onboard the World Dream for all the tips to get ahead of the game. But what we really want to recommend are the water slides! They are on a first-come-first-served basis. Hence, even if you didn’t manage to book any swimming or jacuzzi slots, you’ll still be able to enjoy the thrills and spills of the water slides. There are 5 water slides in total. 2 of which have a sharp drop at the beginning – perfect for thrill seekers. As for the other 3 slides, they are more benign and we particularly enjoyed the one with a “bowl” in the middle where you’ll go round and round before wriggling into a tube in the centre to end off the slide. Probably one of the better water slides we’ve enjoyed at sea!

The jacuzzi experience is a “must-do” during your cruise to nowhere with Dream Cruises World Dream! To have the best experience, remember to check out our tips to booking in our pre-cruise preparations post . To have the best experience, book the jacuzzi at Beach Zouk Club. This is because, you’ll be able to enjoy privacy and a dedicated showering area. Most of all, you’ll be able to take in the sea views while soaking it up in the Jacuzzi. Workshop and Classes at Sea

Besides the more physical activities, you’ll also be able to enjoy complimentary workshops organised by the crew. There are dance classes, quiz and trivias as well as some DIY workshops for you to choose from. We enjoyed the rose-making, keychain making and fun graffiti classes. During some of these classes, you may be able to get complimentary ice cream from the staff as well. Enjoy!

Signature Performances on Dream Cruises World Dream

There were also several comments online that the performances on World Dream is not as good. While there’s some elements of truth to it, we still pretty much enjoyed the shows. In particular, the magic show Vision , by French Magician Vincent Vignaud is not to be missed. We particularly enjoyed his humourous interactions with the audience – several times with Singlish accents as well!

Complimentary Themed Events

As it was Oktoberfest at Sea during our Cruise to Nowhere with Dream Cruises, we were able to enjoy Oktoberfest-themed workshops and performances. There were Apfel Strudel making and a traditional Dirndl workshop to increase our awareness and cooking prowess. There was also a little Oktoberfest dance segment prior to the Faith show. Best of all, we enjoyed the Oktoberfest menu on the last evening where the boiled pork knuckle with the fatty parts were soooo goood!

VR Games at ESC Experience Lab on Dream Cruises Dream World Cruise to Nowhere

For paid activities, we tried out the VR Games at ESC Experience Lab at Deck 16 . During Happy Hour promotions (twice daily), you’ll be able to enjoy 2 games for the price of $22 (usual price $15 per game). The 2 must-try games are the VR motion simulator as well as the VR Maze. The VR motion simulator is not for the faint-hearted. The visuals are realistic and you actually control the movement of the avatar via the motion simulator. This means that if you walk, the avatar walks. If you run (away from zombies), the avatar runs as well. An unique experience. As for the VR Maze , the VR goggles are programmed according to the physical maze that you will be walking through. However, the VR environment is so immersive that you will feel as though you’re at the edge of the platform and can feel the elevator’s motion as it descends downwards. So while you’re not physically moving, the VR visuals make you feel as though you are. Definitely worth a try!

Cruise to Nowhere Dream Cruises Beverage Package on World Dream

One thing that we’ll definitely recommend would be the Beverage Package on Dream Cruises . For only $142 per person, you’ll be able to enjoy unlimited beers (including draft beers), red wines, white wines, sparkling wines (moscato!), premium coffee (latte, flat white, cappuccino) and water (pellegrino, acqua pannna). Not only that, it gives you the flexibility to check out the various venues around the ship and also have a drink to go along with your meals.
