Celebrate Halloween and do the time warp again by watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the movie's stars Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn.

  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show: The 48th Anniversary Spectacular Tour is happening for Halloween 2023, featuring stars Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn.
  • Bostwick and Quinn will anchor different legs of the tour across the US and Canada, with the final show in Washington, D.C. on Halloween night.
  • The tour will include participation screenings, costume contests, shadow casts, and a special Meet and Greet add-on package for fans to meet Bostwick or Quinn and get autographs.

“It’s not easy having a good time.” Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry) couldn’t have been more wrong because The Rocky Horror Picture Show : The 48th Anniversary Spectacular Tour is making the rounds for Halloween 2023. And fans can celebrate the spookiest of all seasons watching TRHPS this year alongside the film’s stars Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn. Check out the promotional posters for the month-long celebrations below:

Bostwick and Quinn will be anchoring different legs of The 48th Anniversary Spectacular Tour across the United States and Canada all month long, until TRHPS event finally reaches the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. on Halloween night. This will be the one and only tour date to feature both actors from the 1975 classic, while the others will feature just one of the Rocky Horror alums.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. EDT and the show starts at 8 p.m. Bostwick famously played the "a—hole" Brad Majors, while Quinn brought the fiery red-headed Magenta to life on the Silver Screen. Bostwick said in a press release (per KTAR News ):

“Forty-eight years ago, Susan Sarandon and I jumped off a plane in London and into a world we never could have expected to be honoring and celebrating all these years later. A family of weirdos and consummate professionals. ‘Rocky’ has changed lives, not just ours, and had a profound effect on how we accept our differences in this world. We were fitted for our corsets and high heels and enthusiastically started singing songs that have endured for all these years. And ‘Dammit Janet’! I have made nerds cool.”

If you can’t make the All Hallows’ Eve celebration in Washington, D.C., there are plenty of opportunities to meet Bostwick and/or Quinn separately at 48th Anniversary Spectacular Tour performances all across North America. But for now, check out the video promoting the tour’s next stop on Tuesday, October 10 at the Robins Theatre in Warren, Ohio below:

Review: The Rocky Horror Show – 50th Anniversary Tour, New Theatre, Cardiff

rocky horror tour cast

The Rocky Horror Show descends on Cardiff’s New Theatre once again, and we have two reviews from our two Rocky Horror Fans – well, it is the show’s 50th anniversary – so why not?

Thomas Howells writes:

The Rocky Horror Show , which returns to Cardiff’s New Theatre this week, boasts a set that is both simple and effective, with a large area as its centrepiece. This area serves as the inside of Dr Frank-N-Furter’s castle and is surrounded by a few smaller set pieces that are used to create various scenes throughout the show. The set is well-lit, with lighting used to create different moods and atmospheres, with darker, moodier lighting for scenes in the castle and brighter, more cheerful lighting for scenes in the laboratory.

The set is well-designed and fits perfectly with the tone of the show. It is well-executed, with actors using the set to their advantage and moving fluidly around it to create dynamic and interesting scenes. For example, during the song “Sweet Transvestite, ” Dr Frank-N-Furter dances around the set, using the different set pieces to create a sense of movement and excitement. The set is a key part of the immersive experience that Rocky Horror is known for, transporting the audience to the world of the show, while helping to create a truly unforgettable theatrical experience.

rocky horror tour cast

The Rocky Horror Show has countless impressive song and dance numbers, delivered flawlessly by a cast that clearly revels in their roles. Their movements are fluid, and their voices are dynamic, adding excitement to the show. More than just entertainment, the songs serve to reveal the characters’ personalities, thoughts, and feelings, as well as drive the plot forward. With catchy tunes that stick in the audience’s heads and an invitation to join in the singing and dancing, the show is sure to create a participatory and unforgettable experience. The songs are a critical component in bringing the immersive world of Rocky Horror to life, both stimulating visually and aurally to transport the audience into its universe.

Charlie Ingles, the musical director of the 2023 Rocky Horror Tour, deserves high praise for bringing the eclectic mix of rock, pop, and classical music to life with a tight band and impressive vocals. The well-balanced sound and clear, easy-to-hear vocals are crucial to the show’s deserved success, as the music is a key element of the experience. Ingles’ excellent work ensures that the music is both enjoyable and memorable, adding to the show’s unique atmosphere.

The cast of the 2023 Rocky Horror Tour is equally exceptional, with each actor bringing their own take on their role. Stephen Webb steals the show as the charismatic and energetic Dr Frank-N-Furter, while Haley Flaherty shines as the vulnerable and innocent Janet as she’s very experienced in her role. Richard Meek’s uptight Brad and Kristian Lavercombe’s over-the-top Riff Raff are perfectly suited to their roles, and Lauren Ingram brings a sense of fun and energy to Columbia. Ben Westhead’s portrayal of Rocky is full of wonder and innocence. The ensemble cast is also noteworthy for their strong support of the leads. Their energetic performances and infectious joy make the show a delight to watch and are integral to its success!

rocky horror tour cast

Rachel Howells writes:

While a lot of people are travelling back from their Easter Break, the New Theatre was full of people in various outfits ready for the opening night of The Rocky Horror Show.   Opening a show on Easter Monday can’t be easy but I am certain the excitement in the auditorium before the show filtered through to the cast backstage.

The show follows the story of Brad and Janet, two squeaky clean college kids, when by twist of fate, their car breaks down outside a creepy mansion whilst on their way to visit their former college professor, they meet the charismatic Dr Frank’n’Furter. It is an adventure they’ll never forget, filled with fun, frolics, frocks, and frivolity.

Richard Meek is by far my most favourite Brad and seems perfectly cast next to Haley Flaherty who reprises the role of Janet.  Richard brings a nerdy strength to the character.

rocky horror tour cast

Stephen Webb excels as Frank giving a very moving performance especially during the song I’m Going Home .

Kristian Lavercombe reprises his role as Riff Raff, who, following more than 2000 performances around the world, manages to keep the character fresh and seems to be enjoying his time on stage.  Darcy Finden who made her professional debut last year as one of the Phantoms, plays the role of Columbia with maturity.

The band, under the musical direction of Charlie Ingles delighted with a superb sound that filled the auditorium.  The lighting design from Nick Richings was outstanding, it made the auditorium feel like a discotheque in some scenes. My one complaint is that The Rocky Horror Show is too short.  It’s such a brilliant night out it’s a real shame that the show is over so quickly. It is, however, a guaranteed party, combining science-fiction, horror, comedy and music while encouraging audience participation – meaning, of course, getting dressed-up in the most outrageous fancy dress! Let’s Do the Time-Warp Again!

REVIEW: The Rocky Horror Show (50th Anniversary UK Tour, Glasgow 2024)

Updated: Feb 3

30 January 2024

Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow

Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show 50th Anniversary UK Tour

Richard O'Brien's legendary musical The Rocky Horror Show has been successfully playing around the world for a remarkable 50 years. Since it's premier in 1973, the show has been seen by an estimated 30 million people, and it continues to thrill audiences with this latest special anniversary production.

Ostensibly a tribute to early horror, sci-fi and those unintentionally funny B-movies, Rocky Horror is the timeless story of two wholesome college kids, Brad and Janet.

When their car breaks down on a dark, wet, night, Brad and Janet find themselves searching for help at the home (castle) of the enigmatic Dr Frank-N-Furter. As Brad and Janet learn more about their host, his staff and guests, they discover that they have arrived on "a very special night": Frank is about to enact his plans to create a man (with blonde hair, and a tan.) Cue mystery, mahem, madcap musical numbers and more than a little bit of sexual tension.

Fifty years old it may be, but thankfully there is nothing in this show to date it. The book is bonkers, but the characters and their storylines are uniquely 'Rocky Horror' and the when, or the where is not at all relevant.

Nevertheless, a musical can only run for as long as this one has if the music is good. And Richard O'Brien's score is magnificent . The soundtrack includes some of my favourite songs of all time.

'Science Fiction / Double Feature' sets the scene perfectly, 'Dammit Janet' is always brilliant fun, and 'The Time Warp' became a chart hit in its own right during the 1980's and 90's. 'Don't dream it, Be it', 'I'm going home', and 'Superheroes' remain some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Richard O'Brien penned this entire soundtrack in the early 1970's and I stand by my opinion that the man is a genius. There are so many quotable lines and beautiful moments throughout the score; his writing is nothing less than poetry.

As much as I love the pure rock of 'Hot Patootie' and the show-stopping brilliance of 'Sweet Transvestite', it's 'Over at the Frankenstein Place' that contains arguably my favourite 8 bars in all of musical theatre. And when sung by the fabulous Kristian Lavercombe , as it is here - I get goosebumps!

Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show 50th Anniversary UK Tour cast: Kristian Lavercombe. Photo credit: The Rocky Horror Show UK

The darkness must go

Down the river of night's dreaming

Flow morphia slow

Let the sun and light come streaming

Into my life, into my life

If you have not heard Kristian as Riff Raff sing these lines live - STOP what you're doing and go book a ticket for this show immediately. He is astonishing.

Well known for appearing in more than 2200 performances of Rocky Horror, Kristian Lavercombe is the perfect Riff Raff.

I've been lucky enough to see him in this role a number of times over the years and I can confidently say that his performance just gets better and better. Every line, every note, every shuffling movement and subtle glance is sublime.

Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show UK Tour cast Kristian Lavercombe, Hayley Flaherty. Photo credit: The Rocky Horror Show UK

With such a well known storyline and soundtrack, the success of any production of the Rocky Horror show relies on the strength of its cast. And the cast for this 50th anniversary production is full of superb Rocky legends and fan favourites who have appeared in the show in recent years.

Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show 50th Anniversary UK Tour cast: Stephen Webb. Photo credit: The Rocky Horror Show UK

Haley Flaherty reprises the role of Janet Weiss and she is hands down the best Janet I've ever seen. Her performance is faultless.

Richard Meek has played a number of roles in the show over the years, but he's back and as brilliant as ever here as squeaky clean Brad Majors.

Filling the fishnets of Frank-N-Furter admirably, the divine Stephen Webb has the all the confidence, talent and undeniable sexual magnetism needed to play the horny but homicidal scientist.

I'm not entirely sure about Frank's accent - was it meant to be Texan? - but he's a sweet transvestite, from Transexual, Transylvania. Who the hell am I to say what accent he should have.

Taking on the role of the narrator in Glasgow is Scottish star of stage and screen Joe McFadden . Maybe I'm biased, but I thought he was sensational! He's certainly the perfect narrator for this city.

Joe has the quintessential mix of charisma and fearlessness needed to play this role in Glasgow. He is very exposed on that stage (!) but he made the character his own with plenty of Scottish pop culture and political references, and he handled the audience heckles with good humour and grace.

The casting of the narrator is always a crucial factor to the success of The Rocky Horror Show at any particular venue, and the choice of Joe McFadden for Glasgow is spot on.

Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show UK Tour cast. Photo credit: The Rocky Horror Show UK

We have all seen the set and costumes for 'Rocky' before, and although functional, there is nothing new or noteworthy in this latest production. The direction from Christopher Luscombe, and the little tweaks that he has introduced to the show over the years remain however, first rate.

It's the enduring soundtrack, phenomenal cast and guaranteed party that will draw audiences back to this show.

I do understand that 'The Rocky Horror Show' will not be for everyone; some people may not like silly, sexy, musical sci-fi - and that's perfectly OK. But for those that do, this 50th anniversary production of the cult show is a celebration of all those things and more. It's astounding... but time really is fleeting! WHAT IS THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW ABOUT?

Let's do the Time Warp again…

Since it first opened in London in June 1973, Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show has become the world’s favourite Rock ‘N’ Roll musical, having been performed worldwide for over 45 years in more than 30 countries and translated into 20 languages.

On the way to visit an old college professor two very clean cut American kids Brad Majors and his fiancée Janet Weiss blow a tyre and go to get help at a house in the distance where they can see a light on. But it’s the home of Frankenstein, where Dr Frank'n'Furter is in the middle of one of his scary experiments.

Sweethearts Brad and Janet go on an adventure they’ll never forget, with  Frank’n’Furter, Rocky, Riff Raff and Magenta .  Timeless classics help them on their way including ‘Sweet Transvestite', Damn it Janet' and the pelvic-thrusting ‘Time Warp'.

Dylan Alcott for Rocky Horror Show

Time Out says

Dylan Alcott joins the cast as the narrator when the cult hit rock musical returns to Sydney

Do you remember doing ‘The Time Warp’? Well, national treasure Dylan Alcott will be doing it (and putting on his narrator hat) when the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Show rolls back into Sydney in 2024. The cult-hit risqué rock musical kicked off its global 50th anniversary celebrations when this new Australian tour launched in the Harbour City earlier on in 2023. Now, due to popular demand, the production is sauntering back to the Theatre Royal Sydney from March 31.

A former Australian of the Year, Dylan Alcott is a tennis champion, Paralympian, motivational speaker, podcast host, an all round beloved larrikin – and soon, he will add narrator in the legendary Rocky Horror Show to his long list of accomplishments, solidifying his move into acting.

Dylan says that he is “super pumped” to be joining the cast of this iconic musical, also adding: “Couldn’t think of a better opportunity for my first theatre production, feeling very grateful. Can’t wait to get to work and rock it out on stage in Sydney!”

We’re shivering with antici… …pation ! The rest of the cast from 2023 will be hitting the stage alongside Alcott, including Jason Donovan as Frank N Furter. The former Neighbours star, teen pop heartthrob and one-time-boyfriend to Kylie Minogue is joined by Stellar Perry ( The Lovers ) as Magenta/The Usherette, Ellis Dolan ( School of Rock ) as Eddie/Dr Scott, Darcey Eagle ( Cruel Intentions the ’90s Musical ) as Columbia, Ethan Jones ( 9 to 5 the Musical ) as Brad, Deirdre Khoo ( Once ) as Janet, Loredo Malcolm ( Hamilton , Jagged Little Pill ) as Rocky, and Henry Rollo ( Jagged Little Pill , Rent at the Sydney Opera House ) as Riff Raff. Joining them in 2024 as Brad and the Frank N Furter Alternate will be Blake Bowden ( The Book of Mormon, The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd ) and as Rocky Daniel Erbacher ( Grease, Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions ).

Alcott will be seen in Sydney performances from March 31 to April 17, and further narrators will be announced for the Sydney season soon. The tour will also travel to Newcastle in January with Myf Warhurst returning as the narrator, and Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre from February 9 with Joel Creasey as the narrator.

Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror follows the whirlwind story of Brad and Janet, two squeaky clean college kids who find themselves stranded at the remote castle of Dr Frank’n’Furter – an extra-terrestrial mad scientist from the galaxy of Transylvania, where people really like to party – and have a night they’ll never forget. Most importantly, this twisted fantasy created by an odd-ball from New Zealand has played a key role in countless queer awakenings and remains a freaky beacon for outsiders everywhere.

Since it first opened in London in 1973 to an audience of just 63 people, Rocky Horror has been continuously on stage somewhere in the world. With its outrageous songs, characters and costumes, it has paved its way as a beloved and raunchy cult classic. The 1975 film adaptation – The Rocky Horror Picture Show – with an all-star cast led by Tim Curry (in his most iconic fishnet-stocking-clad role) took over $135 million at the Box Office, and is still screened in cinemas around the world today, making it the longest running theatrical release in cinema history.

But half a century later, how does it hold up? Our critic was feeling torn at the opening night in 2023, feeling that this tight and shiny new production has sanitised away much of the grungy, subversive brilliance at the show’s heart. But it’s still a worthwhile romp with some megawatt talent – just read the review .

Meanwhile, The Rocky Horror Show has just completed its most successful UK tour and is one of the top performing musicals in the post pandemic era. It has also recently toured in Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Argentina, Romania, Slovenia, Belgium, Tokyo, Korea, Brazil, Canada and Iceland.

The Rocky Horror Show returns to the Theatre Royal Sydney from March 31, 2024. Tickets start at $69.90 and are on sale now, and you can nab them over at rockyhorror.com.au .

The Rocky Horror Show launches the 50th anniversary tour in Australia in 2023

rocky horror tour cast

A brand-new Australian tour will kick off global celebrations in honour of iconic Rock ‘N’ Roll musical The Rocky Horror Show as it marks its 50th Anniversary in 2023. This brand new Australian production will open at Theatre Royal Sydney in February 2023 starring Australian superstars Jason Donovan as Frank N Furter, and Myf Warhurst as The Narrator. Joining them will be Ellis Dolan as Eddie/Dr Scott, Darcey Eagle as Columbia, Ethan Jones as Brad, Deirdre Khoo as Janet, Loredo Malcolm as Rocky and Henry Rollo as Riff Raff. Further exciting casting will be announced soon.

Tickets on sale tomorrow Monday 17th October 10am

Written and created by Richard O’Brien, The Rocky Horror Show has become one of the world’s favourite musicals and is currently the only contemporary rock musical to celebrate 50 years on stage. Since it first opened in London in 1973 at the Royal Court’s Theatre Upstairs, The Rocky Horror Show has been continuously on stage somewhere in the world and has paved its way into history as one of the classics of musical theatre.

Back in the 1970’s when someone asked me to entertain the Christmas staff party at the EMI Film Studios and I turned up with a song called Science Fiction Double Feature who would have known this was the germ of the idea to turn into today what is The Rocky Horror Show. To be celebrating 50 years is beyond my wildest expectations – from the humble beginnings back in 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre in London. There is no better fitting place in the world than Australia to launch this 50th Anniversary Tour with over 14 productions since its very first production in 1975 – The Rocky Horror Show is one of Australia’s most performed and beloved musicals of all time. – Richard O’Brien

Jason Donovan’s over 30 year international career has made him one of Australia’s most successful performers. He was catapulted into homes in Australia and the UK in 1986 when he first appeared on Neighbours starring opposite Kylie Minogue and recently made a much-anticipated return to the iconic Australian series with Kylie seeing millions of viewers across the world tuning in for the heart-warming final episode. Jason’s debut album was a platinum selling record in Australia and was the highest selling album in the UK in 1989. Since then he has sold over 13 million albums worldwide and continues to tour with his live shows to adoring audiences. The multi award winner made his defining musical theatre debut in the lead role of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on the West End in 1991 which also earned him an Olivier Award nomination. He has since starred in many West End musical theatre productions including Priscilla Queen of The Desert, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Rocky Horror Show, Annie Get Your Gun and The Sound of Music as well in the Australian production of Chicago in Melbourne in 2019. Jason is currently starring as the Pharaoh in the UK tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and on the West End as Teen Angel in Grease.

“ I am thrilled to be coming home next year to be part of the legendary Rocky Horror Show and in its 50th Anniversary production no less! From the very first performance in London those years ago, Richard O’Brien created a show from the wilds of his imagination with incredible music that has now stood the test of time, and an awesome energy that befits its accolades and its endurance. Quite simply, it’s a rock n roll show appealing to the cheeky side of us all so I cannot wait to be on stage at Theatre Royal Sydney to party in 2023! ”, said Jason Donovan.

Presenting the story on stage as The Narrator will be legendary and well-respected Australian music broadcaster, TV presenter, journalist & writer Myf Warhurst. Known to audiences from years behind the mic on Triple J, Triple M and Double J and most recently as co-host of the Australian commentary on the world’s biggest song competition Eurovision, Myf is one of Australia’s most accomplished music and pop cultural aficionados. Past Australian Narrators have included Bert Newton, Gretel Killeen and Derryn Hinch, so Myf’s 7-year TV stint wrangling rock stars and other showbiz luminaries on Spicks and Specks makes her a perfect choice to present the mayhem that ensues on stage when the inhabitants of far-off Galaxy Transylvania descend to earth with the insatiable desire to party!

“ If my 15 year old self had any inkling I’d be invited to be a part of a legendary musical that not only celebrated difference, changed lives and had cracking songs to boot, AND I would be starring alongside Jason Donovan, she’d be squealing. Frankly, I’m actually squealing now! It’s a huge honour to be invited to be a part of this historical show’s 50th celebrations and to finally show the world my moves to the Time Warp that I, like so many other people, have practiced for most of our lives on dance floors all over the world. ”, said Myf Warhurst.

Alongside them will be a slew of exciting and incredibly talented Australian performers. Actor and creative writer Ellis Dolan will play Eddie/Dr Scott having recently appeared in the Australasian Tour of School of Rock and Melbourne Shakespeare Company’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. Darcey Eagle who graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts and starred in recent productions including Victorian Opera’s Tommy and Cruel Intentions the 90s Musical will play Columbia. WAAPA graduate Ethan Jones, currently starring in the Australian tour of 9 to 5 the Musical will play Brad and opposite him as Janet will be Deirdre Khoo also a WAAPA graduate who recently made her professional debut in the Darlinghurst Theatre Company’s Once. Loredo Malcolm will play Rocky after being part of the original Australian cast of Hamilton, and fresh from the Australian Tour of Jagged Little Pill, Henry Rollo will play Riff Raff. Further casting is underway and will be announced soon.
