Please use the visuals in this post as a guideline to help you create Ireland outfits and choose corresponding items based on your own style and clothing preferences.

What Do People Wear in Ireland?

The most important thing when deciding what to wear in Ireland is to always look presentable and avoid anything too revealing, like crop tops or short shorts. You will be cold and look inappropriate.

In general, day-to-day Ireland style is casual but always polished. For your Ireland packing list, think nice blouse plus nice jeans (dark colors are always a good go-to choice). When considering what to pack when visiting Dublin, remember that the city is trendy, combining formal and casual wear.

Like anywhere, pack for the environment. Are you spending your time café crawling in the cities or getting lost in the wilderness?

Jeans are easy to wear and don’t have to be washed frequently, so they make the ideal travel pants. For something more versatile and lightweight, take a look at our favorite women’s travel pants .

Also remember that if you forget anything, you’ll be able to pick it up when you get there, so don’t be afraid to pack light. Try to stick to a small selection of colors to make it easier to mix and match your items.

What Should I Wear in Ireland?

The most important factors in planning and packing for Ireland are the activities you’ll be doing on your trip AND the weather.

Always, always, always check the weather forecast before your trip. What to wear in Ireland now could be different a week later. Nothing will ruin your trip faster than being unprepared with the wrong clothing for the weather. Dublin summer fashion is very different than winter fashion.

Once you’ve researched the weather, you can focus on creating a capsule travel wardrobe , which should easily fit in a carryon suitcase with the help of packing cubes to compress your clothing.

When planning what to wear in Ireland, remember that it is a country known for its four-seasons-in-one-day weather. Unpredictable would be a good word to describe it. So plan for rain, bring layers, and remove as needed.

Regardless of when you travel, you will need an umbrella and waterproof gear like a parka, sensible walking shoes, and waterproof boots .

These are the best shoes for Ireland according to our readers!

When in doubt, a tan chelsea ankle boots is the go-to style of choice and a great addition to your Ireland packing list. These tips on how to wear ankle boots should work in every season except winter, when a tall boot is needed like these waterproof boots are recommended.

What clothes should I wear in Dublin in winter?

Winter pants in dark shades will act as your neutral pieces, which you can then wear with long sleeve tops , hoodies , and a warm winter coat. Layering is key for what to wear in Ireland! Lastly, bring a waterproof jacket and a heavy duty umbrella.

You’ll simply need to bulk up your outerwear, add some thermal under layers are highly suggested underneath all clothing, like a polyeste/ merino wool top and bottoms . They don’t get smelly easily or need to be washed often. In fact, if you get cold easily or aren’t used to cold weather, you can pack merino wool or silk  under layers year-round, unless the weather forecast states otherwise.

Don’t forget to add to your Ireland packing list winter accessories , like a warm hat , such as a beanie or ear muffs, and a thick scarf and gloves , so that you can comfortably enjoy all that winter in Ireland has to offer!

Compass Rose Compression Packing Cubes

Depending on how many days or weeks you’re traveling, you may want to use luggage organizers such as packing cubes , which allow optimum use of the space in your luggage, keeping everything organized and in place during your travels, and making the task of unpacking and repacking simple and stress-free.

Find out more why packing cubes are essential — our readers swear by them and so do we! We recommend using these packing cubes — they’re loved by many and it holds up well.

As you’re headed to fashionable Europe, use an equally stylish carry-on , such as the Osprey Ozone , which is a personal favorite. Keep in mind that most of Europe’s budget airlines have a carry-on bag allowance of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Always check your airline’s individual baggage rules and regulations in advance.

Find out the most popular Europe travel bag styles according to our readers along with their tried and tested reviews.

When traveling to Ireland, you’ll need some of the standard, essential toiletries, including:

  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Moisturizer (face and body)
  • Makeup (we recommend keeping it simple: mascara, concealer, and a lip tint that doubles as a blush)
  • Hair ties and bobby pins
  • Dry shampoo

Worried that all your toiletries, makeup, skincare, and hair styling tools won’t fit into your suitcase? Read these tips on how to travel size toiletries to learn how to make the most of limited space without sacrificing your routine!

We recommend you take the most important products in travel containers like these and try to either buy basics like shampoo and shower gel in Europe or use the items provided by hotels.

Also, consider your makeup–in many European cities, women opt for natural makeup focusing on a well groomed but not over-the-top appearance.

While a daily salon blow out isn’t necessary, be mindful of your hair and makeup. Find out if it’s necessary to bring a travel blow dryer here .

When choosing your styling tools, choose items that have dual voltage and bring along a travel adapter for all your electronics. Just make sure to add all these items to your backpacking packing list for Europe so you don’t forget them.

Check out our guide to toiletries for more tips!

What Should I NOT Pack for Ireland?

One unexpected issue that many travelers discover once they get to Europe are the cobblestone streets.

While great to look at, stone streets aren’t always the easiest to walk on and can make for sore feet even if you don’t normally have discomfort. Depending on the city, these streets can also be hilly, slippery when wet, and uneven.

Are Jeans Appropriate to Wear in Dublin?

While Europeans tend to dress up more than Americans, you still can wear jeans in Ireland. However, avoid acid wash and extremely distressed denim and opt for medium-dark blues and blacks. Black skinny jeans always look chic in Europe!

Are Leggings Okay to Wear in Dublin?

Some travelers love wearing leggings for comfort, but they’re often too casual looking as pants for Ireland. If you’re a big fan of leggings , consider pairing a black pair with long tunics during the spring, or wearing them under dresses and skirts in fall and winter.

What are the Best Shoes to Wear in Ireland?

Based on reader recommendations, we suggest tall boots for winter and wedges for summer; other styles can be used interchangeably throughout the year.

Depending on the weather, flat ankle boots , boat shoes, or driving mocs are other top recommendations amongst our readers. They’re classic options and make the perfect alternative to ballet flats, especially if you need a little more room for soft insoles.

Here are the best travel shoes for Ireland in warm weather:

  • Flat walking sandal
  • Slip-on sneakers

  • Ankle boots

Dublin Travel Tips

Before you head on your tour of Dublin , check out these frequently asked questions on traveling to Dublin.

What’s the best time of year to visit Dublin?

While summer offers perfect temperatures, it’s also the busiest time of year for visiting Dublin and Ireland in general. For this very reason, many experts say spring and fall are the best seasons to visit Ireland because the temperatures are still comfortable but there are fewer tourists.

Weather in Dublin

In spring, you can expect cool, mild weather in the high 40s to mid 50s F, while summer sees temperatures up to high 60s. July and August are the warmest months and see around 18 hours of daylight.

In September, temperatures start to drop, but are still comfortable in the high 50s and low 60s. In winter, temperatures drop to the 40s, with January and February the coldest months of the year. Temperatures can drop below freezing but snow isn’t common.

Never travel without checking the weather forecast as this will be your ultimate Ireland packing list guide. Remember that each city will have its own weather pattern so check the forecast for all the destinations you plan to visit.

Use websites such as Accuweather or Holiday Weather for advanced forecasts and don’t forget to check the weather one week and three days before your trip as mother nature doesn’t run on a tight schedule.

What are the best accommodations in Dublin?

We love Airbnb for accommodation in Dublin. Sign up here for a free $40 credit!

I prefer to book “the entire home” instead of opting for shared accommodation on Airbnb. Aside from safety, I also like to feel like I’m living in the destination. It’s a small taste of local life plus you get more amenities than you would at a hotel such as a kitchen and washing machine.

Read these Airbnb tips for more info!

If you prefer the convenience and comfort of a hotel room, I like using both Agoda.com and Hotels.com . Tip: Hotels.com gives you a free night for every ten nights you book!

For hostels, we recommend Hostelworld and Hostelbookers . Always read the reviews before booking to get the best idea if the hostel is right for you. Some are quiet and family friendly while others are known for their party atmosphere.

Not sure about staying at a hostel? Read this.

Transportation in Ireland

For flights, I like booking through Travelocity or Cheapoair (whichever one’s cheapest). Although I prefer Travelocity because they have a 24 hour money back guarantee.

To maximize your vacation time, fly into the city where you’re starting your trip and out of the city where your trip ends. Many times it’s the same price and saves you from having to spend extra time and money to go back to where you started your trip.

How do I get around Dublin?

Like London, Dublin is easy to travel around. The city offers a coastal train, the DART, you can jump on to visit towns and villages along the coast. The public bus has an extensive network so you can travel throughout the city and suburbs. There’s also the Luas tram system and bicycle hires throughout the city.

The Irish people, regardless of the weather, are perhaps some of the friendliest and most genuine you will ever meet. They will be more than happy to help should you need directions or anything else.

Things to Do in Dublin

Dublin is one of the most amazing cities to visit because there are so many beautiful sites to take in. Follow our recommendations before you travel to Dublin .

What are the best sites in Dublin to see?

  • Dublin Castle
  • St. Stephen’s Green
  • St. Patrick’s Cathedral
  • Guinness Storehouse
  • Trinity College
  • Abbey Theatre

Looking for authenticity? There are countless historic pubs in the city such as Temple Bar and Johnnie Foxes; both are worth a visit. Don’t forget the famous Guinness Storehouse and the Jameson Brewery.

What are the best tours in Dublin?

Some travelers prefer the guidance of professionals for planning their trip. If you’re a fan of tours, check out these top tours for Dublin.

  • Rick Steves’ Tours
  • Secret Food Tours
  • Irish Day Tour
  • Wild Rover Tours

The hop-on-and-off bus is a great way to explore the city; the driver’s commentary is amusing and animated. The tour is in English, but there is the option to listen on headphones in a variety of other languages, if you prefer.

Where’s the best shopping in Dublin?

When visiting Dublin, don’t forget about its many shopping malls and popular shopping areas, including Grafton Street and St Stephen’s Green. If you are looking for a shop that will meet all your clothing needs at a reasonable price, then head to Penney’s. They tend to keep up with the latest trends and stock just about everything. Another fantastic and affordable shop is Bershka, which tends to be stylish for young adults.

Compass Rose Secret Bra Wallet ( similar )

Safety is a big concern whenever you travel, and in busy, touristy areas like Dublin, pickpocketing can be a common occurrence. Taking a few safety precautions can help you feel less stressed during your travels.

How can I stay safe while traveling in Dublin?

Be cautious about where you stash your cash so you don’t fall prey to muggings and pickpocketing. Make your clothing theft-proof and choose items with strong zippers.

Jeans are handy for this reason: you can put important items, like your wallet and phone, in your front pockets, where it’s very difficult for a wandering hand to snatch it. Add items like the Secret Bra Pocket ( similar ) and Underwear with Pockets to your packing list.

And be mindful of purse snatchers! They either slash the bottom of your bag so the content fall out or slash the strap. Wear your purse strap across your body and the zipper towards the front. For extra security, check out the “theft-proof” bags featured in this post about crossbody purses .

  • 6 Tools to Protect Your From Pickpockets in Europe

Remember, the safest place for your passport is locked in your accommodation. Carry a photocopy or other ID when you’re sightseeing or are out at night.

Read these tips on how to keep your passport safe when you travel!

Suggested Anti-Theft Accessories for Dublin

  • Bra stash , neck pouch , or money belt with RFID protection
  • Anti-theft crossbody bag
  • Passport case
  • TSA-approved luggage lock
  • Clothing with hidden pockets (like underwear , tops , and scarves )

Key Takeaways:

  • In general, day-to-day European style is more dressy than American style, but this does not mean business clothing. A nice blouse and well-tailored denim is a timeless uniform that can work in Dublin just as well as any other part of Europe.
  • Ultimately, choose comfortable, classic clothing that will transcend trends so you can look back at the pictures from your trip with fond memories.
  • With shoes, always choose comfort over fashion as you’ll spend long hours on your feet – don’t forget to break them in!
  • Elevators are not prevalent in local accommodation; be prepared to lift your own luggage up many flights of stairs and steep cobblestone hills.
  • Avoid oversized, heavy luggage if you plan to use trains, buses, or budget flights as storage space is limited. You should be able to maneuver through train stations (and trains) with ease.
  • Pickpockets are prevalent in all tourist cities, be aware of your surroundings and be practical about your belongings.
  • ALWAYS check the weather before you travel.

What are your tips on what to wear in Ireland?

Please note: Most of Europe’s budget airlines have this carryon bag allowance: 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Always check your airlines individual baggage rules and regulations in advance.

ANNMARIE Tull

I’m from Ireland, best thing is to wear layers. This will keep you warmer in the winter but will let you cool off when it’s warm in the summer months. You just never know when it’s going to get cold in the summer months.

Emily

need more clothes!!!!

Alex

Hi Emily, thanks for reaching out! What sort of clothes are you looking for?

Nicole

Are belt bags ok to wear in Ireland? The cute ones that are trending to wear crossbody right now are what I mean. Thanks! 🙂

Hi Nicole, a belt bag is a great versatile option for Ireland, but it would depend on what your activities you had planned were. They are convenient and a safe option for your valuables. If you are looking for some suggestions, you may find this article helpful: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/cross-body-purses-the-best-travel-shoulder-bags-for-women/ Hope this helps. Annie

Great article! My mother & I are planning a trip this September. I don’t think I can pack everything suggested in a carry on due to the amount of space boots take up. We are coming from the US, should I take the chance to check in a larger suitcase?

Hi Annie, so pleased you enjoyed the article!! Packing carry-on is not always the ultimate goal, it is about its about packing and traveling in a way that works best for you, so if you feel you need to check a suitcase then go ahead. Also if you are worried about your boots taking up lots of space in your luggage, then could you not possible wear them on the flight to travel in. We recommend that always try to wear your heaviest or bulkiest shoes on the plane; it may be your boots. You can always slip them off and put on a pair of cozy socks for the flight. Hope this helps. Have an amazing trip to Ireland with your mum!! 🙂

Heading to Ireland 8/29 through 9/13/18. I’ve packed 2 pr jeans, 2 long Columbia hiking pants also, and some Columbia light tshirt (cotton and wicking) for the day trips to wear and then layering a thin jacket for warmth and following up with a Columbia rain coat. For off days and touring in Dublin again have casual short sleeve shirts along with a denim shirt or light jacket to stay warm and using rain jacket again. Am I packing too light for this timeframe? Do you think I need to add extra warmth? Even my night outfit for dinner shows is sleeveless top with thin dress pants, but also have a sweater. Just need extra insight if I’m packing too light as I’m not wanting to over pack like I tend to do! This was very helpful but since my trip is towards end of summer and beginning of fall I don’t know if I’ve packed to lightly.

Hi Heidi, that all sounds fantastic, just make sure you pack a warm jumper just incase! Check the weather forecast a few days before you leave to get the most accurate info to ensure you have packed the most appropriate clothing and shoes! You may find this post helpful about expecting the unexpected: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/packing-for-ireland-in-the-summer/ Hope this helps! 🙂

Rosamund

Ireland is cold in spring, autumn and winter, which is why we wear Aran sweaters. We don’t wear wellingtons all year round! As the summer temperatures are lower than mainland Europe long sleeved tops are needed even in summer.

Hi Rosamund, thank you for sharing your recommendation for Aran sweaters and your advice for what to wear in Ireland! 🙂

Barb

I am planning a trip 7/20-7/29. I will be landing in Dublin, heading to Doolin, Galway, Westport and fling out of Shannon. This was very helpful thank you. Just trying to figure out the hairdryer situation. I bought a bag of adapters but read that you must have a travel hair dryer that switches from 110 to220 and have been googling for one. I haven’t been able to figure out exactly what hairdryer I should purchase to bring.

Hi Barb, thank you for your lovely comment, so glad you found the article useful!! I don’t recommend packing an umbrella – it will be broken by wind in 15 min. Better take waterproof jacket with a hood.

Thanks for the input Kat! Happy travels!

We are 4 people traveling, a hip mom, 2 teenage sons and a husband who needs help w fashion. It’s good info to hear about the umbrella situation. I’ve been pushing them on my 3 men for days as we leave tomorrow. Now that I read your comment I’ll feel confident that me having only ONE SMALL travel wind resistant umbrella will suffice for us all. We will be heading westward for most of our trip so one umbrella could come in handy. I’ll only know if it’s so after the trip. Thanks for all your input all you travel girls on this site I just accidentally stumbled upon but am so happy I Did!! All I’ve read here makes me feel confident in my choices and confident I’ll be prepared WITHOUT OVER PACKING. It’s my biggest issue when traveling.

Hope you have a wonderful trip Laura!

Elisha Huff

Hi! can you elaborate more on what a “versatile sleep set” is? Maybe some examples or links? Thank you 🙂

Hi Elisha, many TFG readers wonder why I never include pajamas in the packing lists. The answer is that they are not part of the essential capsule wardrobe items. I count them as extra pieces of clothing. Ideally, the pieces you choose also can be worn for other activities — not just sleeping.

For example on one, 2 week trip to Europe in the summer I packed a tank top and shorts. And then on anther occasion when I headed out on my Utah road trip, I packed a merino wool tee that I used as a stand alone item, used for layering when the temperatures got a bit chilly and I also used it for sleeping and long drive days: https://amzn.to/3rV6KlI

This t-shirt performed well for me. I could rewear it without washing, and it doesn’t absorb smells. I did wash it one day on the trip, and it did dry overnight without a problem.

Here’s what our readers said they pack for sleepwear when traveling: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/best-travel-pajamas-for-women/

Hope this helps!

I’m chaperoning a Spring Break trip to Ireland this March and my goal is to have the lightest, yet still super fashionable, carry-on. This is a great help for getting there!!

That’s awesome, hope the trip went great!

Thank you, you’re a life saver!

Thanks for reading Adeline!

The what to wear in Autumn examples have been so helpful for my upcoming trip in October. I would never have thought of a flannel shirt but they are much more stylish than a few years ago.

Glad you found them useful 🙂

Abigail dowell

Thanks for this! I’m heading to Dublin this summer for the first time!

You’re welcome Abigail! That sounds so exciting 🙂 Have a great time!

ViVi

This is the most helpful post I have come across for my trip to Ireland! I’m going this June and I’m still trying to figure out if I could bring a (faux) leather jacket in place of a raincoat. Any advice?

Thanks Vivi! You could definitely bring your faux leather jacket but not sure if it could replace the raincoat completely. It all depends on your activities (will you be outdoors, in the countryside, in the city, etc). Make sure to check the weather http://www.bbc.com/weather/ before you travel. Have a great trip!

Becky D

I went to Ireland the end of April into May. All I can say is layer, layer, layer. It can be pretty cool outside because of the wind and rain, but the restaurants and shops are warm so I tended to get overheated when inside. My rain jacket was an everyday item, but I could take it off or leave it in the bus when we made stops. Loved Ireland, 2 weeks weren’t enough.

Hi Becky, thank you so much for sharing your travel tips with me! Sounds like you had a fantastic trip! 🙂

Claire

Hi Alex! I’m studying abroad in Ireland from mid-June to the end of July; I’ll be traveling to Cork, Doolin, Galway, and Dublin. Since I’ll be gone for about five weeks, what do you suggest I pack? We’re allowed to bring a regular-sized suitcase and a carry-on. Also, we will be hiking a few times. Would Hunter ankle boots be appropriate to bring? Thanks!

Hi Claire 🙂 This sounds like a really exciting trip! Have you taken a look at our 10 step packing guide for studying abroad? http://bit.ly/24kjiOT Ensure your footwear is comfortable! Also check out the guide on the best shoes for walking http://bit.ly/1rOuabK

This is amazing!!! Heading to Ireland in June.

Thank you! Have a great trip!

Witt

I was trying to find the hooded rain jacket that you have listed in the Dublin winter packing list. The link doesn’t look anything like the picture

Hi Witt, items get sold out so we try to replace them with similar items whenever possible. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Andrew

Hi i would like to check if i go for a trip to dublin on dec 2015. Is there cold? And will it snow?

Hi Andrew, I’d say it will probably be freezing and there might be snow. Best thing to check weather.com for the forecast right before you go but do expect cold. These might help you: https://travelfashiongirl.com/best-thermal-underwear-for-women/ They have the same for men, too!

Mollie

Thanks so much, excellent post! My guy and I are planning on a trip to Ireland in the spring so this is greatly appreciated. I absolutely HATE going somewhere new and looking out of place in a touristy way. Thanks again! 🙂

One of the readers sent me a picture from her trip to Ireland and she flew with one carry-on and handbag while her guy had a bag twice the size. Hope this list helps you as much as her. Dress warmly!

Jen

This was the best help yet, I leave for Dublin next week and have been nuts about what to pack!

Great, glad to help!

Jody Halsted

I found the mention of avoiding tracksuits funny because the majority of young men in Dublin (and around Ireland) wear trackpants. It was so common, that my college-aged cousin commented on it.

great, thanks for the tip!

c

Yeah that is so true! I studied abroad in dublin so I was there for some time, and I can’t say I was impressed with the amount of tracksuit pants and the like – especially from the guys! People there also have a curious fixation on abercrombie and fitch and hollister. So if you want to look like a local, wear a hoodie with either brand written as boldly as possible and you’ll fit right in hehe! Of course there still are many people dressed fashionably, or at least in jeans as well! The girls are generally pretty fashionable. When people go out and things they get pretty dressed up and everything though. Still would not exactly call it a fashion oriented city in comparison to many others though…

alex

Great, thanks for pointing that out! 🙂

Tasha

Went to Ireland in 2019 and found the packing advice so helpful. Thank you for providing us with the resources for making travel less stressful and more fun. Going to Italy in November. Travel fashion girl is a true Gem!

KTW

I really don’t know what a trackstuit is or track shoes. Do you mean tennis shoes and sweats? When I think of a tracksuit, I think of the slick 90s pants. Do they still wear those?

Track suits are probably what you’re thinking about and track shoes are trainers 🙂 I’ve gone ahead and edited these terms so it’s not so confusing. Thanks!

Nikki

Great List and she’s described Ireland well. Being from Ireland I’d agree on the tracksuits and having lived in Wales, Scotland and the USA. I’d say Ireland is by far dressier at night. So I’d recommend a couple more dressy tops as people get dressed up even for a quiet drink mid week. In Dublin, at the weekends dresses are mainly worn by women and men should have shoes as some bars and clubs will not allow people in in trainers

Thank you for your local tips Nikki!

What To Wear In Ireland In June (Packing List)

If you’re wondering what to wear in Ireland in June, the guide below (based on 33 years of living here) should come in handy.

Deciding what to pack for Ireland in June can be tricky, especially if it’s your first time visiting.

But it’s  very  straightforward once you have a sense of what June is like in Ireland .

Our Ireland packing list for June contains  no affiliate links  – just good, solid advice you can rely on!

Some quick need-to-knows about what to wear in Ireland in June

Before looking at what to wear in Ireland in June, it’s worth taking 10 seconds to get up-to-speed on what this month is like:

1. June is summer in Ireland

With average highs of 18°C/64°F and average lows of 11°C/52°F, there’s no doubt about it, the weather in Ireland in June can   be lovely. The days are nice and long with the sun rising at 05:03 at the beginning of the month and setting at 21:42. If you’re following one of the itineraries from our Irish road trip library , these long days give you plenty of time to explore!

2. Hope for the best and plan for the worst

When it comes to what to pack for Ireland in June, plan for every type of weather. June  tends to bring mild and sunny weather, it isn’t guaranteed. You should pack with different scenarios in mind. For example, both 2020 and 2022 saw above-average rainfall in certain parts of the country, whereas in 2021, it was mostly dry with lots of sunshine in the South East.

3. Where you’re from plays a big part

For many of us, highs of 18°C sound like a warm summer’s day. But if you’re from somewhere with a hot tropical climate, this can still be a little on the cool side! Where you’re from really does influence how you gauge temperature, so make sure you think carefully about whether you’ll need to pack a few extra layers or some more breathable clothing.

4. We can get four seasons in a day

One of the main take-home-points from our guide to the best time to visit Ireland is to keep in mind that we can, and often do, get every season in one day. Packing rain gear and warm layers are a must. The worst case scenario is that you don’t end up using them.

Ireland packing list for June

what to wear in Ireland in June

This is what I recommend you pack for Ireland in June:

  • Short-sleeved t-shirts/tops
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat
  • Light waterproof jacket
  • Shorts/summer dresses
  • Socks and underwear
  • Trousers/jeans
  • A light top for evening time/cold days
  • Comfortable walking shoes/boots
  • Footwear for evening time
  • Activity-related clothing (e.g. hiking boots)
  • Swimwear if your hotel has a pool or if you plan on sea-swimming

The list above gives you a quick overview of what to wear in Ireland in June and what to bring with you.

Below, you’ll find the type of plugs we use along with a mix of other essential items for your Ireland packing list for June.

1. The essentials

essential things to pack for ireland in june

Photos via Shutterstock

We like to start with packing the essentials, that way we know how much room in our bag we’ll have leftover for clothes, gear, and other items.

Essential items will differ from person to person, but we’ve popped a few general things below you might want to consider bringing.

Firstly, there’s a valid passport and, if you need one, a complete VISA. Then there’s any tech you might need. So phones, cameras, eReaders, headphones etc., and their chargers.

In Ireland, we have G-type plugs (three rectangular prongs) so don’t forget an adaptor if you need one.

Secondly, you’ll want to make sure you bring any special medication you need as you might not be able to get it after you arrive. This also applies to toiletries – if you use something specific, it’s better to bring it along as you might now be able to get it here.

Lastly, we have the all-important day bag. June is a great time for exploring on foot. So a handy bag is essential for storing extra layers, your water bottle, snacks, and all-important waterproofs.

2. The waterproofs

waterproofs

We touch on things to avoid in Ireland a fair bit on this website – one of the key points is not to assume the weather in Ireland in June will be grand.

Even during the glorious Irish summer, you’re going to regret not packing some decent waterproofs.

As we mentioned earlier, the past few Junes have had above-average rainfall, so a light waterproof jacket is highly recommended.

It’s also super handy to carry a little umbrella in your bag just in case.

3. Warm weather must-haves

clothes for warm weather

As it’s officially summer, you can definitely ditch the winter coat and even your down feather jacket for some lightweight layers.

We suggest packing shorts, t-shirts, and sundresses for city breaks and a pair of trainers or comfortable sandals. A light jacket or cardigan is also a good shout to keep you warm during the evening.

Since the sun will hopefully be shining a lot, don’t skip on the sunscreen or a pair of sunglasses. A hat or baseball cap is also a good idea if you’re prone to burning or can overheat easily.

4. The evening wear

evening wear

Photos courtesy Failte Ireland

When it comes to what to wear in Ireland in June, many get stuck on the evening attire, but worry not!

The majority of Irish pubs and restaurants are quite casual when it comes to evening wear, with jeans/chinos paired with a shirt being more than fine for an evening trip to the pub or dinner out. For women, jeans or a skirt with a nice top is the norm.

However, if you’re planning on heading somewhere a bit up-market for dinner and drinks, then we’d suggest packing something a little smarter.

5. The activity-specific clothing

Carrauntoohil

June is a great time for exploring Ireland’s outdoor sights, although if you’re planning an active holiday, you’ll want to bring along some extra gear. We suggest some sturdy walking boots/shoes, lots of layers (it can get quite cold high up in the mountains), and a wide-brim hat. A large reusable water bottle can also come in handy.

At this time of the year, the weather is definitely warm enough for a bracing dip in the ocean or some fun-filled water sports (surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding). So don’t forget your swimwear and a lightweight towel for the beach.

Irish cities and towns are extremely walkable, so even if you’re not a big hiker, comfortable shoes are a must if you plan to explore a lot on foot.

FAQs about what to wear in Ireland in June

We’ve had a lot of questions over the years asking about everything from ‘What Ireland packing list for June is the cheapest?’ to ‘Are pubs in June casual?’.

In the section below, we’ve popped in the most FAQs that we’ve received. If you have a question that we haven’t tackled, ask away in the comments section below.

What should I wear in Ireland in June?

With average highs of 18°C/64°F and average lows of 11°C/52°F, June tends to be nice and mild. Bring light layers, comfy shoes, a valid passport, a waterproof outer-layer and a G-type plug adapter.

How do people dress in Dublin in June?

Dublin on the whole is casual, with the exception of fine dining restaurants. Shorts, light layers and casual evening wear (e.g. jeans and a polo top) are all more the acceptable.

What Should I Wear For A Golf Trip To Ireland?

Taking a golf holiday in Ireland? Here's your ultimate guide on what to wear to stay comfortable and stylish on the greens.

What Should I Wear For A Golf Trip To Ireland?

Table of Contents

What clothing to pack for a golf trip to ireland.

Since most of Ireland's golf courses offer year-round golfing, there's no wonder that the country attracts so many golf enthusiasts. What's more is that Ireland has more than 400 golf courses, which makes it the perfect destination for a golfing trip.

With unpredictable weather that can range from wet and windy to sunny and mild, finding something to wear on the greens can be tough. Luckily, this helpful guide on what to wear for a golf trip to Ireland will walk you through what to pack so you're prepared for anything.

When you're packing your golf travel bag, you'll want to pack as lightly as possible. You're already dealing with the weight of your golf clubs in your bag, so it seems unnecessary to bulk up your load with tons of other items!

Instead, you'll want to pick a few staple items and essentials to take with you. We'd recommend packing the following clothing items for your trip:

Starting at the top of your outfit, it's crucial to have both long and short-sleeved shirts for your Ireland trip. Although you can expect cold and wet weather, some days are warmer than others and you may find yourself feeling pretty stuffy after a few rounds on the course.

Be sure to pack some moisture-wicking long-sleeve golf shirts to use underneath your outfit, since you'll want to shield yourself from sun and wind when you're on the greens.

You'll also want some standard golf or polo shirts in your suitcase, like Glenmuir's Mens Irish Flag Performance Golf Polo Shirt . Not only is this stylish and comfortable, but the Irish tricolour striping is sure to make an impression.

The next thing you'll want to pack is bottoms. Although you may be tempted to pack a pair two of shorts, the often-cold Irish weather may have you rethinking your outfit. While having a pair of shorts may come in handy on warmer days, it's more sensible to take some long, tailored trousers.

Long pants like khakis and golfing trousers are great options. Just be sure to keep in mind that some courses don't allow denim jeans to be worn on the course. You'll want to check the dress code before you go.

The ideal golf travel bag has a dedicated space for your shoes. Why? You can expect a lot of water and mud on your shoes after a long day on the course!

One of the best items of clothing you can invest in before your Ireland golf trip is a pair of waterproof golf shoes. These will keep your feet warm and dry in the wet weather and usually have better traction than other shoes to avoid slipping and sliding in muddy areas of the course.

If you can't get your hands on waterproof shoes, taking two pairs of shoes with you is wise. Trust us - you're going to want to give your shoes time to dry before you hit the greens again.

Taking waterproof gear along with you is a must when you're heading onto Irish greens. Ireland can be extremely cold, so you'll obviously want to protect yourself against the wind, rain, and chilly temperatures.

You can't go wrong with a good-quality waterproof jacket to guard against the wet weather, but rain jackets aren't always enough.

Layering a lightweight sweater underneath your jacket will keep you snug and comfortable all day long. Glenmuir's Mens Zip Neck Irish Italian Flag Stripe Cotton Golf Sweater is the perfect sweater for any Irish golf trip.

Accessories

Besides the basics, you'll need to take along some accessories to complete your outfit. Not only will accessories bring the ensemble together, but they'll also help to shield you from the elements. Some accessories for your golf travel bag include:

Rain gloves: Waterproof golfing gloves are fantastic for helping you to keep a firm grip on your golf clubs - even in the rain.

A beanie or warm hat : While sun visors are great for protecting you from the sun, you may want to forego them in favour of a warmer hat.

Thick socks: Keeping your feet warm and dry is essential in the cold weather in Ireland. Be sure to pack a few pairs of thick, warm socks for your trip.

A scarf: A woolly scarf will protect your neck from the cold and stop the chilly wind from hitting your chest directly.

A belt: This will pull your look together and make you look smarter on the greens. It will also help to keep your trousers in place while you're navigating the course.

Whether you're planning a golf weekend away or spending an entire week exploring Ireland's golf courses, knowing what to wear can make all the difference. It's important to remember that Ireland's weather is much cooler than that of its English neighbour, so you'll want to come prepared! You'll also want to pay close attention to the dress codes for the courses here so that you can stick to the rules.

No matter the occasion, Glenmuir has the perfect clothing items for any kind of golf trip. If you want to be comfortable and stylish on the greens, be sure to check out our catalogue of men's and women's golf attire.
