Rostra Cruse Control for 1993 Chevy PU

Was very easy to install. Instruction setting sheet said to ground the Tech wire. I could not get it to work that way, after hooking up the tech wire it worked great. I re-grounded the tech wire and it stopped working, so re-attached tech wire and works great. Have not made any long trips after installation but works great on short.

The cruise control unit I purchased for my 1989 Chevrolet Cheyenne 1500 shortbed pickup looks and feels like the kind that come directly from the factory. It is a very nice enhancement to a machine that I am equipping to have all the modern options that were available back then. I am satisfied that I've bought the best.

Cruise Control troubleshooting 98 OBS

I am trying to figure out why my cruise is not working. I was given my mom's 98 Sierra ext. cab after she passed away earlier this year and I am just getting around to trying to fix it up, so unfortunately I am just learning the ins and outs of it. I had read about the 3rd brake light being wired in with the cruise, so I checked and both of the bulbs in the 3rd brake light and they were burned out. I changed them out but didn't seem to change anything. So now I am looking either at the module or the switch. Any suggestions on how to test one or the other so it is less of a guessing game? Is there a light on the dash that comes on with the cruise switch is set to the on position?  

First things first, do you know if it's a factory or aftermarket cruise? There really isn't much to those things. Another thing to look for is a vacuum leak. More than likely on that age, it's going to have a vacuum ballast in between the motor and the module itself.  

It is the stock cruise. I already replaced the intake gaskets and thought I had pretty thoroughly checked for any vacuum leak but I will look for this specifically. Thank you, I'll report back after I have had a look.

Well, it's a good possibility it's either a fuse, or the module. Ideally you need a wiring schematic so you can be sure it's getting power and such, and you can manually engage it to see what it does.  

I found the cruise wiring diagram at GMTruckCentral.com, I will bust out the multimeter and get to troubleshooting.

At this point I am going to pull the plug on the module and make sure the switch is sending the signals that it should and power is flowing right, if it is then just going to chunk the module and replace it. If the switch is not sending the signals it should I will tap into the harness and simulate the switch with another to see if it activates the cruise. If so then I'll replace the switch.

Multimeter FTW, the switch is working fine, sending on/off signals and set and speed signals. Ground checked out ok as well. Bad module it looks like. I will find a replacement and let you know how it goes. Thank you ibander for your help.

• Your sub-harness should have White and Purple wires on the Brake switch connector.
• Add a wire teed into the wire on Terminal A of the Cruise module. I would match the wire color to the existing Terminal A wire.
• The White terminal G wire needs to tee into the stop lamp wire between the brake pedal switch and the column.
• The Cruise Release circuit should run in series from the wire you just teed or wyed into cruise module Terminal A, through the brake and clutch pedal and cruise control cutout switches, to the Purple wire on "Cruise Release" terminal D. Put the Purple wire on one switch and the extra Terminal A wire on the other with a Jumper running from switch to switch between the leftover terminals. If it's an automagic truck both the purple and Terminal A Tee wire goes to the cruise control brake pedal switch.
• When wired properly with the pedal or pedals up (switch contacts closed) you should measure 0 Ohms between D & A with the stalk unplugged and just the pedal switch or switches plugged in.

1998 GMC Suburban Cruise Control Wiring Question

I am working on swapping a 350 from a 1998 GMC Suburban into a 1976 Chevy K10. I would like to retain the factory cruise from the Suburban but all of the wiring diagrams that I have found online do not match the connector that goes into the Cruise Control Servo on the firewall. I have traced down the wires and here is what I came up with so far; A: Ign Power (Brown) Also connects to the computer B: ABS Failure (Lt Grn) Unsure if this is accurate. This went into the bulkhead plug on firewall. C: Brake Input (Purple) D: Unknown (Blk/Wht Ln) E: Speed Input (Yellow/Blk Ln) Comes from computer. F: Brake Warning (Brn/Wht Ln) G: Serial Data (Purple) Comes from computer and also goes into bulkhead plug on firewall. H: Unknown (Purple) Goes to connector. Other side of connector grounds out. J: Ground? Maybe? (Blk) Goes into loom and toward engine. The servo PN is RL 25169208J. Does anyone have a wiring harness that comes close to matching this one? I am at work right now but I will get pics uploaded of the plug as soon as I can this afternoon.

Yeah. It didn't help this particular situation. Thanks for your input though. I really appreciate it! I actually went to the local dealer and had them look at the photos and listen to my description of the issue. They looked at me like I was crazy and told me that my setup doesn't make sense. I have decided to move forward with converting over to a different cc module that has a pinout that matches the diagrams that I found online. That way I am certain everything is correct.  

I found my problem. The ABS module has the same plug style as the cruise but is definitely a different pinout. Oh joy... I went to a salvage yard where they had Suburban hanging out so I grabbed the wiring from the Cruise Servo that was on it and low and behold it didn't match and it also didn't run straight into the harness either. It actually runs straight into the firewall. So, with that said, more wires have to come out of the wiring loom before I slide this engine into the K10.
