The Don Bosco Museum, Asia's largest Museum of Indigenous Cultures, is the home of North East India's magnificent culture and history. It rises seven storeys into Shillong's skyline and features 16 well-designed galleries showcasing artifacts, artworks, and characters vital to North-eastern culture. The importance of the  Don Bosco Museum is evident from the fact that it has been visited by Rajya Sabha members as well as the princess of Thailand. Another notable feature of the Don Bosco Museum is its hexagonal design, which is why it is known as Shillong's architectural pride.

2. Mawlynnong

Mawlynnong, popularly known as God's Own Garden, is a small village in the East Khasi Hills around 90 km from  Shillong . Discovery India named it the cleanest village in Asia in 2003, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions. It has lush green valleys, crystal clear river water, and a profusion of beautiful orchids hanging from the trees. When traveling from Shillong to Mawlynnong village, you will pass by the Umngot River, Bophill Falls, Umgrem Falls, Living root bridge and Riwai village, Sky View, and Mawlynnong Waterfalls.

Best Time To Visit: June and July

3. Ward’s Lake 

Ward's Lake, an artificial lake encircled by a lush green park in the heart of Shillong, is a popular tourist attraction. You can simply wander around the horseshoe-shaped lake, also known as Pollock's Lake, or sit and admire the gorgeous flower beds that cast a rainbow of colors. The lake's main attraction is undoubtedly paddle boating. A little bridge in the middle of Ward's Lake allows tourists to have a panoramic view of the entire lake or feed the tiny fishes. flora. It makes the entire area perfect for morning and evening walks, picnics, yoga, and meditation.

Location: Ward’s Lake, Meghalaya 

Sweet Falls, one of the country's steepest and most captivating waterfalls, is located around 5 kilometers from Happy Valley in Shillong. It is widely referred to as the most beautiful yet deadly waterfall, with a height of 96 meters. Unlike Meghalaya's tiered waterfalls, Sweet Falls features a thick rush of water dripping from a tremendous height, making it one of the top spots to visit in Shillong. Near the waterfalls, there is also a butterfly museum and a mini-zoo. There is a railing near the waterfall, but it is too shaky to lean on. 

Amazing Fact: Sweet Falls, ironically, is thought to be haunted by the locals, who think that if visitors visit in odd numbers, they return in even ones. Also, the local government has designated Sweet Falls as a danger zone because it has been the location of several sad fatalities and suicides in the past.

Location: Sweet Falls, Meghalaya 

5. Lady Hydari Park

The well-known  Lady Hydari Park , which is named after the state's first lady and the governor of Assam's wife, Lady Hydari, is conveniently situated in Shillong's Laban neighborhood. It is the best place to visit in Shillong because it is constructed in the shape of a Japanese garden. You catch a glimpse of the numerous little ponds, round-shaped hedges, and willow trees with leaves that touch the ground. A good learning experience may be had inside the park's grounds at the museum and the small zoo.
