About Bacolod

Bacolod is a highly urbanized city known as the City of Smiles because of its world famous MassKara Festival celebrated every October. Also, the warmth and hospitality of the locals coupled with their melodic dialect is something to smile about.

Despite its promising local economy and urban amenities, Bacolod still manage to maintain its laidback lifestyle. Most of its famous tourist spots are scattered around Metro Bacolod which is composed of Silay City, Talisay City, Bago City, and Murcia. Included in the must-visit sites are The Ruins, Capitol Park and Lagoon, and Silay Heritage Houses.

Food is life in Bacolod. Aside from a visit to the home of the original Chicken Inasal, Manokan Country, a dessert food trip is a must at the Sugar Capital of the Philippines. Treat your palate with Calea’s cakes or Roli’s Napoleones.

Getting around in Bacolod

There are several commuting options you can take in Bacolod. You can choose which among the shuttle service, taxi, or Grab service you prefer to take you from the airport to your accommodation.

Jeepneys are the most common transit mode in the city. Although there are only four jeepney routes, it still might get confusing. Don’t worry in case you get lost, just ask the friendly locals for assistance. Buses and tricycles also ply the public thoroughfares.

If you’ll be travelling by air, there are multiple daily flights from Manila and Davao via Cebu Pacific Air and trips via Philippine Airlines from Manila, Clark, and Cebu. You can opt for a cheaper alternative from Manila via a RORO land and ferry transportation.

The Ruins

This iconic architectural masterpiece should be on your checklist when you go on a Bacolod Tour. Dubbed as the “Taj Mahal of Negros”, this mansion in nearby Talisay City was built by Don Mariano in memoriam of his lost wife, Maria Braganza. The present day structure is what’s left after its World War II destruction. It’s still picture perfect any time of the day but most especially in the evening when it’s all lighted up.

  • Negros Museum

Negros Museum

Negros Museum stands out from the other museums in the province. It is considered as a pioneer institution as it focuses more on promoting local contemporary artworks and stories of Negros both to the locals and visitors alike. One of the interesting displays here is the doll collection from all over the world. You can also dine in at the cafe right beside the museum.

  • Capitol Park and Lagoon

Capitol Park and Lagoon

Get a glimpse of the splendor not only of Bacolod but also of Negros Occidental with a visit to the Capitol Park and Lagoon. It’s a well-kept complex with recreational area, man-made lagoon, and commissioned statues. Situated at the city center, the park is ideal for strolling in the early morning or late afternoon. Also, it’s an interesting sight at night when the complex is illuminated.

Calea

Sweeter than the locals’ sing-song tone are the cakes and pastries in Calea. Next to Bacolod’s Chicken Inasal, you should not miss indulging on the Sugar Bowl’s homegrown cakes. Their best sellers include Chocolate Cake and Cheese Cake but there are a variety of flavors to choose from. They also serve coffee and dishes.

  • Campuestohan Highland Resort

Campuestohan Highland Resort

Widen up your smiles as you getaway from Bacolod City to Campuestohan Highland Resort. This establishment in Talisay is a resort and a theme park rolled into one. 8:30-9:30 AM – BACOLOD GALLERY OF MASKS

From the Public Plaza, let’s go and visit the southern part of the city.

Bacolod City is home to the world-renowned Masskara Festival which is held every October of each year. However, in Bacolod City, you can find a gallery which houses and sells authentic Bacolod Masks. It would be interesting to include this destination in your Bacolod Tour Itinerary.

Right in front of San Sebastian Cathedral are jeepneys plying towards Bacolod – South. Take the jeepney plying “Punta Taytay”. Ask the driver to drop you at Bongbong’s right in front of Metrodome. Please take note that taking a taxi will make your city tour swift and more comfortable.

From Metrodome (your landmark ) just walk a few meters towards the east. The Gallery of Bacolod Masks can be found 3rd gate from Metrodome. There’s signage at the gate with a picture of a mask, so you will surely find the place. The gallery is open 8:30 AM and closes at 5 PM (Mondays to Saturdays), but you can always call and make some appointments. There are no entrance fees, but they are selling some souvenirs ranging from the small mask magnets to the big wearable masks. You need not buy, you can just simply visit and see them doing mask making. If you have more time they also offer a “paint your mask” activity for a price of  P150. You can then bring home a small sample of Bacolod Masks which you had painted.

Option 1. VISIT CAMPUESTOHAN

From May’s Organic Garden and Restaurant take a jeepney plying to Bacolod City ask the driver to drop you to the place nearest the public plaza. I suggest you take a taxi to go to Burgos Market as a jeepney will take more of your time.

From Burgos Market, take a jeep plying Alangilan. Any of these jeepneys will bring you to Campuestohan Highland Resort.

When going back to the city proper, tricycle outside the resort can bring you back to your hotel in Bacolod City.

From that place, take a jeepney to bring you to Libertad, or the fastest would be, take a pedicab (most of them are parking just beside Bongbongs) and ask them to bring you to Libertad Market at the terminal of Mambukal.

From Mambukal, Just take the jeepney parking outside the resort to bring you back to Bacolod City.

Bacolod City is generally peaceful, so be comfortable and enjoy your nightlife while having your vacation.

BACOLOD ITINERARY – DAY 2

8:00-8:30- GOING TO SILAY

Since you have already explored the southern part of Bacolod City, we can do a heritage tour on the second day of your visit to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Silay City is known for its heritage houses and good food as well.

From your hotel take a taxi or jeepney to bring you to the South Terminal in Bata, Bacolod. From the terminal, take a jeepney going to Silay City and ask the driver to drop you to the Public Plaza.

8:30-9:30 – COFFEE AND VISIT TO SAN DIEGO PRO-CATHEDRAL

Right in front of the public plaza are typical old coffee shops (kapehan) selling nice coffee at very affordable prices. Silay is also known for their kakanin, so I’m sure these coffee shops have this kakanin. If you don’t like what they offer, you can walk a few meters to El Ideal, they open as early as 6:30 AM.

Within the area is the San Diego Pro-cathedral. If you are a Catholic you can pay a visit to this church.

Balay Negrense, one of the heritage houses in Silay City. This house is now a museum and is open for the public [ Bacolod Itinerary + Travel Guide | 3-Day Tour, Budget ]

9:30-11:00- SILAY CITY (HERITAGE TOUR)

After your church visit, drop by the Tourism Office (right in front of the City Hall) right within the plaza area and ask for guide maps for your walking tour.

Silay City is known as the Paris of Negros, wherein heritage houses owned by the sugar barons are still standing and well maintained. Some of these houses are open to the public while others are not. Of course it would be great to have a guide when doing a tour, however, if you are doing a DIY Tour, your map can already be a good help. If you are traveling alone, just hire a pedicab to bring you around. Of course, ask first for their price before hopping in.

11:00-12:00 MN -LUNCH AT BALARING

After the tour, you will surely want to feast on the food of Silay. So, I recommend that you visit  Barangay Balaring.

To reach the place, ask the pedicab driver to bring you to the tricycle terminal going to Balaring. Balaring offers a wide array of seafood through its various floating restaurants.

Must Read: EAT IN SILAY: BARANGAY BALARING

12:00 – 1:30 PM – COFFEE AT EL IDEAL

After your lunch, take a tricycle to bring you back to the city proper. Just try to negotiate with the driver to bring you straight to El Ideal.

El Ideal is one old Bakery in Silay City offering various delicacies that are popular among the tourists.

1:30-3:00 PM BACK TO BACOLOD, NEGROS SHOWROOM

Just outside the El Ideal, wait for a jeepney going to Bacolod. They will drop you somewhere in Bata. From that place, take another jeepney going to Libertad or Shopping. Any of these jeepneys will pass by Robinsons Place, Bacolod City.

At Robinson Place, you will find the Negros Showroom. The Negros Showroom showcases the best of Negros products. Various handicrafts ranging from furniture, decors, gifts and housewares, souvenirs and much more are found at the Showroom. Since this is already your second day, it would be best that you already buy some souvenirs or “pasalubong” for people back home.

After souvenir hunting, I’m sure you are already quite hungry. By this time so you can proceed to your next destination and have your coffee or taste various cakes and pastries famous in Bacolod City.

From any of these coffee shops take the jeepney going to Libertad. The jeepney will pass by the Capitol Lagoon. At the park, you will see the beautiful Provincial Capitol Building of Negros Occidental. I should say, this Provincial Capitol is one of the most beautiful structure of its kind in the country.

From the Provincial Capitol Lagoon, you can walk to the Negros Museum. Just ask anyone around for directions.

After your visit at the Negros Museum, I’m sure you are already quite tired and might want to go back to your hotel for a quick rest or to freshen up or might want to have your early dinner.

Chicken Inasal [ Bacolod Itinerary + Travel Guide | 3-Day Tour, Budget ]

5:00-ONWARDS -DINNER

For your Bacolod Tour dinner, since you are already near Lacson Street, you can pick from a variety of restaurants along the area. Since you have already tried some seafood at Balaring, you might want to try this time the Chicken Inasal of Bacolod.

The nearest chicken inasal restaurant from Negros Museum is the Chicken Deli. The Chicken Deli is right in front of the Seda Hotel – now being constructed. You might also want to try the Manokan country near SM City.

If you want to try the Manokan Country, take the jeepney in front of the Museum going to the downtown area. Just ask anyone from the museum what jeepney to take. The moment you reach the public plaza. You can walk to the Manokan Country (just beside SM City) wherein you will see a row of eateries all serving chicken inasal . I recommend you try the Lion’s Park Chicken Inasal because it is more spacious. It’s the first in the row of these eateries. Apart from chicken inasal, they also serve oysters.

Do you still have the extra energy? Or wanted to see more of Bacolod? At the back of SM City, is the Pope John Paul Tower. The tower is a seven-story building dedicated to the late Pope John Paul II who visited this capital city on the 20th of February 1981. At the topmost level of the tower, you will see a beautiful view of the city. So If you are not yet that hungry, it would be best to visit this place first before having your dinner as it might be too dark already when you visit quite late.

BACOLOD ITINERARY – DAY 3

VISIT THE RUINS, GOING HOME

As the schedule of your flight back home is unknown to me, I recommend that you spend the remaining few hours you have in buying what you want to bring home.

Going to the airport may take around 45 minutes depending on the traffic, so it would be safe to allow 1 hour for the travel time.

Before going to the airport, you can pass by the Ruins. The Ruins is one iconic structure in Negros Occidental. Technically, the Ruins is located in the

The Ruins is one iconic structure in Negros Occidental. Technically, the Ruins is located in the City of Talisay. The reason why I placed this attraction in the last of your itinerary – simply because there are no jeepneys plying this place.

To visit the place take a taxi going to the airport but ask the driver to drop you first at The Ruins (and wait for you). Just add 1 hour more for your travel time to the Airport. Since cabs charged a flat rate of P500 in going to the airport, it would be wise to negotiate first with the driver on the additional amount it would cost you for letting the cab wait while you are checking the Ruins.

Time is obviously limited on each island but enough to explore a little, snorkel or just worship the baking sun. The waters around Siargao are very clean but the current is strong stay close to the shore line. Boody fight lunch was great, a good balance of sea foods, rice, noodles, chicken adobo, veggies and fruits. Respect the cleanliness of the beaches as the locals must work hard to keep them so pristine. Read more Written March 8, 2024

They purposely throw food next to tourists so they swim within arm length. We got told to stay 5-6 meters away with the warning to get a big fine when you go closer. No guide said a word when people reached out to the whale sharks. Awful to realize this happens on a daily base. Read more Written February 11, 2024

They tell you to stay at least 5-6 meters away from them but no one does this. They throw the food to groups of people so the whaleshark approach the people. The employee also touched the whaleshark??? It is NOT sustainable at all. Don’t do this. Read more Written February 11, 2024

  • Nenna91 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Horrible Horrible experience offered by Taug Whaleshark watching in Lila. The water is overcrowded by tourists packed on small boats that are sorrounding the animal. The whale shark is fed continuously with minced fish to keep the whale close to shore. The water is so smelly and dirty that the visibility is really low. At the briefing we were told to keep at least 5 m distance from the whale, however none respected the rule and the tourists were disturbing the animal all the time. After 20 minutes the visit is done and other boats are already on the shore to take your place around the whale. We spent 3000 pesos for two people, really not worthy: inhumane and not wild at all. BACOLOD-ILOILO-GUIMARAS Travel Guide: 4D3N Itinerary + Expenses

BACOLOD-ILOILO-GUIMARAS

Bacolod-Iloilo-Guimaras tour is another barkada getaway for us. On this adventure, we decided to visit three provinces. I am so excited about this.

Planning wasn’t easy. What we did was a semi DIY Itinerary. For the Bacolod and Guimaras part, we looked for a tour package that will help us get to the places we wanted to visit. And a purely DIY Itinerary for the Iloilo part. Shout out to our friend Joy for preparing everything!

5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS BACOLOD-ILOILO-GUIMARAS ITINERARY:

Just to give you a heads up, this is a packed-full 4 days and 3 nights itinerary. We tried to fit in as many tourist spots as we can on this trip. 😍

BACOLOD and GUIMARAS ACCOMMODATION:

We checked in at Hotel Am Rei in Bacolod but you can also check other hotels that you like. For our Guimaras hotel, we booked at Alubijod Cove Resort . Please use the link below to book through AGODA.

DAY 0: Arrival at Silay Airport – Bacolod.

🚩Check in at the Hotel 🚩9th StrEAT Foodzone We arrived at 5 PM in the afternoon at Silay Airport. This is a free night for us because our adventure will start the day after. After having our dinner, some of us decided to stay at the hotel and rest. But for us who are not yet tired, we decided to visit and eat “ again ” at 9th StrEAT Foodzone .

DAY 1: Iloilo – Guimaras

🚩 MOLO TOWN MOLO Church Plaza of Molo town MOLO Mansion

🚩 ILOILO CITY PROPER Caller Real Iloilo City Hall Iloilo Museum San Jose Church Plaza Libertad

🚩 GUIMARAS DAY TOUR Holy Family Hills San Miguel Jordan – Guimaras landmark THE PITSTOP Southern Orchard Mango Research Facilities San Lorenzo Wind Farm Guisi Lighthouse

Our call time the next day was early because we are planning to take the first trip – 6 AM from Bredco Port Bacolod to Iloilo . We had our breakfast in a small eatery in the port before heading to Fast Craft shipping lines for about an hour-and-a-half ferry ride.

When we arrived at Ortiz Wharf Port in Iloilo, we immediately ride a tricycle going to Molo Town. Then we visited the Molo church, Molo Plaza, and the Molo Mansion.

bacolod tour package

After that, we rode a jeepney going to Iloilo Esplanade for the famous “ I am Ilo-ilo ” landmark.

bacolod tour package

We also walk along Calle Real and visited Iloilo City Hall, Museum Iloilo, San Jose church, and Plaza Libertad. Which are all within walking distance of each other. When we got tired we had our brunch at Netong Original Batchoy.

After lunch, we head back to Ortiz Wharf. Took a boat going to Jordan Wharf Guimaras. There we meet Kuya Joel, our tour guide for our Guimaras Tour.

bacolod tour package

Kuya Joel’s van was already waiting for us outside the port. Our first stop is San Miguel Jordan where we bought mangoes and took a picture of this famous landmark.

Guimaras

After exploring the area, we got hungry so we went to THE PITSTOP for lunch. Their Mango Pizza is a must-try. I find it weird at first but when I tasted it – WOW! I never thought it would taste that good. We tried as much as we can on their menu, and to our surprise, all of it has mango in it. Well, we are in Guimaras afterall and mango is what they are known for.

bacolod tour package

After lunch, we went to Southern Orchard Mango Research Facilities . The place will show you how they take care of mango trees. They offer a short lecture and tour inside the facilities.

bacolod tour package

I am surprised that they have windmills in Guimaras – San Lorenzo Wind Farm . Great!

Windmill guimaras

Then the last place to visit is the Guisi Lighthouse . They have this wishing well, where you can make a wish and then throw a coin. It looks more like a ruin.

Guisi Lighthouse Guimaras

After our Iloilo-Guimaras tour, we head to Sitio Alibijod . Where we spent our afternoon swimming. We stayed at Alubijod Cove Resort .

Day 2: Guimaras Island hoppin g

🚩 Guimaras Island Hopping 🚩 Guimaras to Iloilo boat 🚩 Iloilo to Bacolod ferry 🚩 The Ruins

We woke up early in the morning the next day because we will go Island Hopping . We rented a boat in Raymen Beach Resort which is just beside the resort we stayed at. ISLAND HOPPING – Fairy Castle, Baras Cave, Ave Maria Island, Turtle Island, Baras Beach Resort, Natago Beach Resort, Solly Luna, Lamurawan Beach Resort, Isla Naburot, and SEAFDEC all those we visited. I haven’t had a lot of pictures because I really did enjoy swimming. I just grab the picture below from our friend Ivann. 🤣

bacolod tour package

In the last part of the Island hopping, we went to this floating cottage from Rayment beach resort. We paid Php 50.00 each.

bacolod tour package

After swimming, we went back to the resort. We changed and fixed our stuff because we will go back to Iloilo and be back in Bacolod at 5 PM.

THE RUINS – I thought we are very late to visit the Ruins but I realized we just came in at the right time. I am recommending a visit in the late afternoon before dark. You’ll be able to witness the ruins during the day and how beautiful it is at night.

The Ruins Bacolod

Day 3 : Bacolod Tour – Lakawon Island

This day tour was organized by Bacolod Travel Tour. You can find them on Facebook if you are interested. 🚩 DON SALVADOR BENEDICTO 🚩 PINE TREE ROAD 🚩 MALABAN-OG FALLS VIEWING DECK 🚩MAMBUKAL MOUNTAIN RESORT 🚩 LAKAWON ISLAND

For the 3rd day of our Bacolod-Iloilo-Guimaras tour, we went first to the summer capital of Negros Occidental – Don Salvador Benedicto. They have dubbed it “Baguio” or “Sagada of the Visayas” because of the cool climate unlike any other area in Negros Occidental. Here you’ll see rice terraces that can also be seen in Baguio and Sagada.

Guimaras travel guide itinerary

I love Mambukal Mountain Resort. It’s one of the places I wanted to visit again in Bacolod. Probably spend a day or two in the resort. There are a lot of options to do. My favorite is the sauna pool they have. It’s also amazing to see the sulfur lake in the resort because of its proximity to Mount Kanlaon.

Mambukal mountain resort bacolod

In the afternoon, we rode a small boat going to Lakawon Island. It has an amazing view. Too bad, we only spent a half day here. But we still enjoyed it. I wish we stayed longer.

Lakawon Island Bacolod

Day 4: BACOLOD TOUR and SILAY CITY TOUR

🚩 PROVINCIAL CITY HALL 🚩SILAY CITY 🚩BALAY NEGRENSE 🚩THE MANSION

On the last day of Bacolod-Iloilo-Guimaras trip, we spend it touring Bacolod City. We went first to the Bacolod Municipal Hall, then to Silay City. We first head to Balay Negrense. There are students that organized a tour inside the house for 20 pesos each.

BACOLOD-ILOILO-GUIMARAS

The last place before we head to the airport is THE Mansion . They turned this old house into a cafe, a place to sit, relax and order coffee. It’s nice.

International and local visitors flock to the city during this time of the year, so it’s a great time to book a tour to join the festivities. The name is a combination of two words, “mass” meaning “many people” and “kara” which is the Spanish word for face.

The month of February is a great month to visit if you want to experience their Chinese New Year festival called the Bacolodiat festival, where you’ll witness a parade of lanterns and cultural show.

Want to attend the “mother of all fiestas” in Negros province? Go there in April, which is when the Pana-ad Festival is held.  It is considered to be a Thanksgiving celebration to Divine Providence to reinforce their faith in exchange for a good life.
