What our customers say about us

Great service, worth the price

My friend and I wanted to do a short trek because we’re a bit out of shape so Ramesh suggested the Ghandruk loop and we were not disappointed. It was just the right amount of physical activity. The views were wonderful and the lodges clean and each of them offered good food and hot water. The villages were authentic and small. Our guide (Sabin) was amazing. He told us everything we asked about Nepal and the mountains and was very helpful when on the last day my friend got sick. He also had many recommendations for what to do in Pokhara. I definitely recommend this trekking agency.

Fantastic trip!

Went to Nepal for a few days on the way back to the UAE from India. Weren’t sure what to do as we only had a few days but we wanted to see a lot of different areas. My friend got in touch with this company and I have to say they were absolutely amazing. Looked after my friends and I so well and for a reasonable price. Got to see all over Nepal and even had our own personalised driver. Ramesh was also so friendly and made sure we felt so welcome. If you are looking for a guide for Nepal I would highly recommend this company.

When is the Best Time for the Kathmandu to Ghandruk Tour?

The Kathmandu to Ghandruk tour is ideal for all seasons. However, the peak seasons of Autumn and Spring are the best time for touring Ghandruk from Kathmandu. The months of March - May is the spring season whereas the months of September - November is the Autumn season in Nepal.

The post monsoon period of autumn is generally stable and has less precipitation. The clear views of the mountains and the stable weather makes the season favourable among travellers. The scenic beauty of the place and the festive atmosphere around the place is another highlight of the tour in the autumn season.

The spring season turns the hills green and many wildflowers bloom all over the hills turning the hills pink and red. The sky is generally clear and stable which makes touring the beautiful place easy and smooth. Spring also increases the wildlife activity around the region after long harsh winters.

The trails might get muddy and slippery in the monsoon season due to heavy rainfall. The winters on the other hand brings freezing temperatures and might be a hassle for travellers. Hence, the Kathmandu to Ghandruk tour is best avoided in the monsoon season and the winter season.

However, if you love touring in the quiet or looking for a budget friendly travel then the off season tour is ideal.

Then travel in the locomotive to get there from Kathmandu (the capital city of Nepal), and then take a private vehicle and trek the rest of the way. This would take at least a few days since it is not quite possible to get all the way up to Ghandruk in a single day from Kathmandu.

First Half of Trip of Kathmandu to Ghandruk: Kathmandu to Pokhara

The first half of the tour to reach Ghandruk from Kathmandu requires travellers to get to Pokhara from Kathmandu . Visitors can get to Pokhara via road and by air.

By Road (time took: 8-9 hours)

The most pleasant and the easiest way of making the overland trip is to hire a private driver, as foreigners are not permitted to engage cars in Nepal for self-driving.

Ariel views if Pokhara

Hiring a car and driver means you can make a stop at any time of the day (tourist buses prefer to leave early in the morning) when and where you want, and you can go forward with the trip.

If you're on an economical budget and not low on time, taking the bus is the scenic alternative, and worthwhile. You can follow the Prithvi Highway that connects Pokhara with Kathmandu .

For the first half of your journey, it passes almost parallel to the Trisuli River. In the second half, the mighty Himalayas comes closer into view. It can, however, be slow and physically tiring due to road and traffic conditions.

An overland journey can take as little as six hours where there are no road delays, although this is quite rare. Sometimes, it can take as many as nine. Tourist buses are cheaper and reasonably comfortable; they are more expensive but much safer than local transport.

Most tourist buses depart at about 7 am from near Thamel (Kantipath) and arrive at the tourist bus park of Pokhara, not quite far from Pokhara's Lakeside. During busy times, pre-book tickets or if you're travelling in a large group.

The luxury Greenline Bus is the most spacious, with a buffet lunch and higher-calibre comfort stops. Local buses are inexpensive but usually uncomfortable and not very safe — you can expect them to be overcrowded and speeding.

If you're on a minimal budget or need the freedom to leave Kathmandu later in the day, they're just an alternative.

By Plane (time taken: 30 minutes)

Flying is the shortest, fastest, and most convenient way to get from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Flights to Pokhara depart from the domestic terminal at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) several times during the day.

Around mid-afternoon, the last flight leaves, so it's safer to try to be on the first flight of the day, and if delays arise, re-bookings are made in the order of the first flight.

Sky's Limit: Journey Awaits Above

If an afternoon flight is scheduled and all morning flights are cancelled, the knock-on effect ensures that you do not end up flying until the next day.

Flights only take about 30 minutes, but owing to the weather conditions, they are almost always delayed. For the best mountain views, consider seating on the right-hand side of the aircraft.

The tiny Pokhara Airport in Pokhara is only a couple of miles from Lakeside. Having a taxi in town is convenient, or you can arrange for a hotel pickup.

Second Half of the Trip of Kathmandu to Ghandruk: Pokhara to Ghandruk

Suppose you travel early in the morning from Kathmandu and Pokhara and everything runs on time. In that case, you can get to Pothana on the first day from Kathmandu, and then proceed to Ghandruk on the second day.

However, a more leisurely itinerary that involves at least one night in Pokhara is preferred unless you're in a real hurry. In Pokhara, there's plenty to enjoy, and this is a less tiring choice as compared to others.

By Private Vehicle and then on Foot (time taken: two days)

There's more than one way to reach Ghandruk from Pokhara, and you won't be required to always follow the most direct path, depending on your trekking itinerary.

Take a private means of transport west along the Pokhara-Baglung Rajmarg Road from Pokhara. Many trekkers pursue this well-developed path setting off for treks towards the Annapurna Himalayan Range.

Beautiful Gurung Village

You can ride a local bus as well, but it's not very convenient (or safe) and takes a much longer time than a private car. For around an hour, travel along this road until you hit the turn-off for Dhampus. Here you'll leave the road behind.

Continue hiking through Dhampus and the Australian Camp on foot until you reach the small Gurung village of Pothana, which should take about four hours to finish. The path goes through some woods and cultivated land, and parts of it are uphill. Overnight stay in Pothana.

Continue trekking toward Ghandruk on day two. You'll travel through Deurali, Tolkha, and Landruk towns. After Landruk, the trail ascends uphill and descends downhill and is steep in sections, but is more incremental.

Annapurna trek accommodation.

Annapurna Trek accommodation will be basic tea houses for boarding/lodging.This is the most popular style of trekking to langtang Valley and simply involves trekking from tea house to tea house. Tea houses are essentially small hotels find in local villages that offer both a place to sleep as well as home cooked meals. Rooms are typically shared with 2 trekkers in a room. Bathrooms are shared as well and in the langtang Trek, the lodges usually have running cold water and western style toilets. Also the hot shower is also available but it need to pay extra cost for it.

In some of the villages on the trek, it may be possible to have a private room with an extra cost and we will do our best to arrange that. However, during busy times of the year there is a limited amount of lodging available in some of the villages so it's generally impossible to arrange private rooms. This is the case even if you're willing to pay extra since the tea house owners will not give out a private room if it means someone else goes without a room.

Annapurna Region Trek Meals/Food

Trekkers can choose a meal/food from the menus at the tea houses. Typical meals on langtang trek includes omelets, toast, boiled eggs, noodle soup, fried rice, macaroni, mo mo, vegetarian curries, pizza or chow mein. The traditional Nepali Dal Bhat which consists of rice, lentils, and a vegetable is all you can eat and always a good choice. Meat on the mountain is not hygienic and we suggest trekkers stick with vegetarian options.

There is not a problem for vegetarian food and in fact we recommend that everyone stick with a vegetarian diet on the trek as the local meat is not refrigerated properly. If you have special dietary requirements just let us know and we will make sure to assist with the proper menu.

  • Travel Tips

Best Time of Annapurna Base Camp Trekking

The best season and most favored time of Annapurna Base Camp Trekking (Annapurna Sanctuary Trekking) is autumn (From Mid September till November end) and spring (From the beginning of March until mid-May). During this period daytime is sunny and warm with outstanding views. At this time the temperature in the day is between 10 C to 30 C. The nights are often cold with a temperature between 5 C to -20 C.  Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) is also possible but temperature during winter could be harsh for most people. Trekking in the summer season (June, July, Aug) will be affected by rain/monsoon but the Summer trek could be an advantage for a keen botanist.

Nepal Visa Information

All foreign nationals except Indian Nationals are required to arrange a visa in order to enter Nepal. A Nepalese Visa can be obtained either prior to your arrival at a Nepalese embassy abroad or on arrival time in Kathmandu at the airport. But nationals from Afghanistan, Iraq, Cameroon, Ghana, Somalia, Swaziland, Palestine, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Liberia cannot secure the Nepalese Visa upon arrival. The Visa can be also taken at entry points at Nepalese borders. For Nepalese Visa it requires your passport with at least six months validity, recent digital photo (size: 1.5″ x 1.5″) and the following fees either in USD dollars cash or the equivalent local currency:

Meeting and Greeting in Airport

We would offer you the meeting and greeting service in Kathmandu International Airport on your arrival time. For this, you need to pass us your International flight details at least 2 days before your arrival date in Kathmandu. After you get down from the aircraft you just pass on the Customs and come out of the Terminal building where you will see our tour officer standing with a playcard with your name written on it. He will greet and welcome you with auspicious garland and escort you to the hotel.

Accommodation during the trip

Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp does not require tremendous logistics in terms of accommodation as you will find plenty of clean and friendly lodges along the trail. Lodges typically offer a room with a wooden bed with a simple mattress or foam pad, a cotton pillow, and a blanket or quilt. A few have electric lights and all have a spacious dining room-lounge. We will accommodate you and your group in a local lodge available each day. We send a porter ahead of us to book the required rooms for you (here rooms cannot be booked in advance).

In the case of Kathmandu and Pokhara, we offer you a tourist standard hotel unless it is mentioned otherwise or clients have a special choice.

Food and Drinks

In the trail of Annapurna Sanctuary Trekking, it’s commonly available of Authentic Nepali meal: Dal Bhat (rice with lentils soup and seasonable vegetables), noodles, pasta, chapatis, eggs, French fries, porridge, and muesli. The restaurant of lodges also serves Tibetan foods like momo, thukpa, chowmein, along with pizza, spring rolls, pancake, and another continental as well as Indian foods.

Tea and hot lemon are traditionally the main drinks on the trail though coffee is found everywhere. Bottled soft drinks, bottled water, and even beer are common along the route but the price of each bottle rises each day when you move upward.

Trekking Guide and Team

The trekking team who will go with you is the most significant thing that makes your Annapurna Base Camp trekking successful, enjoyable and memorable. We would provide you with skilled, experienced, courteous, knowledgeable and helpful trekking guide and porters. The trekking guide leads you in the trail and brief you all the about this route and porters carry your luggage. Our all trekking guides are carefully selected in terms of their appropriate experience, leadership skills and their knowledge about local culture, ecosystem, geography, flora and fauna, and history. With aim of sustaining local communities, we only employ local people as trekking guide and porter. Our all trekking guides are certified by Nepal Government, Ministry of Tourism. We manage trekking team such a way that one trekking guide in each group and porters like one porter for two trekkers.

Luggage While Trekking

During the trek, your main luggage will be carried by porters or pack animals (usually yaks or crossbreeds). You simply carry a day pack with water bottle, camera, sunscreen, spare jacket, etc. – a small load that allows full enjoyment of the trek. A trek bag is ideal for your main luggage, plus a small lockable bag for travel clothes or anything that you do not need during trek which you can leave at hotel’s locker room in Kathmandu for free of charge.

Day Routine during Trekking

Every morning, first of all, packing your bags and then have a hearty breakfast at the lodge restaurant. Then set off on the day’s walk. After walking for 3-4 hours you all stop for lunch in a local restaurant. Then continue walking for your destination. After lunch, it’s the only a couple of hours walking. You usually arrive at your destination in the time of afternoon tea. Check in at the lodge. The rest of the day is at leisure. At the free time, you may explore the surrounding village, doing a bit of washing or simply relax by reading books and writing a diary. On some days you will arrive at your destination by lunchtime and the entire afternoon will be free. Most people also spend free time playing cards and other games reliving the day’s adventures. Then in the evening have a dinner and you will be briefed by your trekking guide about your next day’s walking and then go to your bed for a well-earned sleep.

Health & Fitness

Annapurna Sanctuary Trekking is moderate trek suitable for any passionate walkers who able to walk at least 5-7hours a day with a light day pack. Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in lower altitudes; however, if you are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude, self confidence and strong determination, you can do this trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks prior to the trip is a good idea to enhance your strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no compulsorily required for this trip. It is vital for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before taking the trip.

Prevention from Altitude Sickness

At high elevations, the combination of reduced oxygen and lower atmospheric pressure can produce a variety of unpredictable effects on the body, known collectively as Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is also commonly known as Altitude Sickness. Everyone who treks over 3500 m experiences some mild symptoms of AMS like slowness, dizziness, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, racing pulse, disturbed sleep and swelling of the hands and feet but serious cases are very rare. The golden rule of prevention from Altitude Sickness is don’t walk too fast at altitude, drink plenty of liquids, eating well, getting plenty of sleep and avoiding alcohol. If in case you feel any mentioned symptoms the simple cure is to move down (descend) and you shouldn’t ascend further until you start feeling better. To treat AMS there is also available medication Acetazolamide (better known under the brand name Diamox). The dosage is 250 mg every twelve hours. Diamox improves respiration at altitude and can, therefore, accelerate acclimatization. Some doctors recommend a preventive dose (125 mg twice a day) for people trekking at high elevations. At the time of trekking our trekking team always guides you to prevent from Altitude Sickness and they always have Diamox along with first aid kit.

Rescue/ Evacuations

We believe casualty and a serious sickness will not happen in the trip. If it happens we will do everything to transfer you to the nearest hospital. Since all the expenses incurred in evacuation liable to you please make sure that it is covered by your insurance before assigning for it or be prepared to pay on your own after getting back to Kathmandu.

Travel Insurance

We strongly advise you to take travel insurance before joining a tour which should cover medical expenses, emergency repatriation and helicopter evacuation at high altitude places and loss of your luggage. We would request you to bring your insurance documents when you come to Nepal.

The following list is a guideline to help you pack for your trekking. The weight limit for your luggage is 15 kg or 33 pounds. Remember that your luggage will be carried by our porter.
