40 father-son quotes that celebrate the bond between boys and dads

Father teaching son to ride a bicycle.

The father-son bond is worth being celebrated.

After actor John Stamos became dad to his son, Billy, he said, “Everything is more colorful, more exciting. Music, you know, sounds better. He’s just a beautiful little boy.”

And dad of two Idris Elba told Cosmopolitan in 2015, “More than anything you have to make time to be with your children. It’s something I battle a lot because of my career, because as much as it’s nice to be busy and working, ultimately children don’t raise themselves. You’ve got to be there to help them and guide them through it. That’s one thing I try my very best to do. I love being a dad, it's an important part of my life.”

One thing is for sure: There is nothing quite like a father-son bond.

Wanderlust doesn’t just stop when kids come along.

Indeed, I can’t imagine my desire to travel ever waning, no matter the change in circumstance.

The stats seem to prove it too: 44% of millennial travellers take their children with them on vacation. I hope to add to that statistic whenever I end up having kids of my own!

The idea of taking young kids on a trip must be pretty daunting though.

But don’t let it stop you! Clearly, masses of people do it; there’s fun and adventure to be had. Travelling as a family will create eternal memories and set your kids up for an incredible life ahead.

Still worried, undecided, or just looking for a bit of family travel inspiration? I wanted to assemble a list of top family travel quotes to help.

I hope the following quotes about traveling with family and family outing quotes serve to inspire your trip!

Daunted by the prospect of travelling as a family? In need of a little inspiration? The following quotes full of family trip inspiration should help you jump into the experience and make memories as you go.

“Blessed are the curious for they shall have adventures.”

Kids are naturally inquisitive. They’re little creatives, full of imagination and bursting with curiosity at the world. Everything is a new adventure for them.

Set them forth in distant lands to give them an experience they’ll never forget.

…If they start missing home, read them some of these quotes !

ogmandino-7424846

Quotes abouts traveling with family don’t get much more inspiring than this one from Og Mandino.

“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.”

Childhood should be a magical time for everyone involved. Going travelling with your kids gives them the gift of new worlds, sights and experiences to hold onto as they get older.

It’s one of the great advantages of travel . I think the travel quotes with family on this list speak to that.

“There are no perfect parents and there are no perfect children, but there are plenty of perfect moments along the way”

Set aside your concerns about travelling as a family. Accept that there will be mishaps and mistakes along the way. But look forward to the far bigger bunch of good stuff that’ll happen as well.

Travelling with someone you love? These travel couple quotes might be of interest too!

“Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

Ahh, Dolly Parton. I could not agree more. As hectic as life can get, it should never get in the way of experiences as a family. Your time together is far more precious than your to-do list.

Insightful Travel with Family Quotes

It’s hard to know what to expect before hitting the road as a family. Here are some insightful quotes to (hopefully) reassure you it’ll all be fine…

“Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures.”

Travel quotes for family don’t get much better than this!

Unsure whether travel is right for your children? Listen to Carrol.

Sure, school’s important. But what they’re really yearning for is adventure- not a life of tests, chalk-boards, and ‘organised fun’. Here’s more info on how self-development is so inherent within travel.

image-asset-8462608

I love this travel with family quote from Hodding Carter. I hope you find value in the remaining traveling quotes with family themes.

“Two of the greatest gifts we can give our children are roots and wings.”

Roots and wings. Understanding and courage. Humility and ambition. Grounding and aspirations. Travel provides your children with all of the above. And you’ll have been the one to instigate it.

“Every day we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.”

You want your kids to look back on their childhoods with fondness and delight. Give them a childhood full of fun, excitement and adventure by hitting the road as soon as possible.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes memory.”

Your children stand to gain from travel long after the experience is over. Who knows what seeds the trip will sow?

Fun Family Trip Quotes (Travel Quotes Family Members Will Love!)

What’s the point in life if there’s no fun to be had? These family travelling quotes made me smile. I hope they have the same effect on you too!

“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.”

Wisdom straight from the mouth of a childhood hero of mine! Peter Pan said it best. Anything is possible when you believe it can happen. Travelling is great at inspiring hope, possibility, and confidence in your abilities.

“Traveling in the company of those we love is home in motion.”

I like this thought a lot. The idea of leaving your home behind can make travel seem daunting. But going with family is like taking your home with you…there’s nothing to be scared about.

shanti-2867874

I hope these family trip quotes will help you see the fun there is to be had too. Quotes for travelling with family don’t get any better!

“And at the end of the day, your feet should be dirty, your hair messy and your eyes sparkling.”

I couldn’t agree more. Travelling can be an amazing antidote to the mundanity of modern childhood. Everything is so clean, protective, ordered and…sanitary. Travel’s about diving headlong into experience, getting knocked about a bit in the process, and feeling fundamentally alive.

Education-Related Travel Family Quotes

Travel is arguably a much better, more wholesome and holistic education than any other. As these quotes have already suggested, it’s a genuine gift to give your kids.

Here are some education-related quotes on family trip to enjoy!

“The best education you will ever get is traveling. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences.”

These quotes on travel with family reveal that the road is one big learning experience.

You witness and engage with new people, places and cultures. You navigate challenges, make your own decisions, figure out how to get around, and so on. From start to finish you and your family will be learning all the time.

aristotle-2482539

Aristotle coming up with a travel family quote about how educational the experience is for kids. Read on for more quotes on traveling with family and the education it provides!

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”

Life is so much more than school. There’s a vast amount of schooling to be gained from the experience of the outside world. You can come away from formal education with a lot of knowledge, but very little understanding. Travel can fill in the gaps.

Here are some quotes about living abroad that might persuade you of the virtue of travel!

“Travel is like an endless university. You never stop learning.”

Again, more quotes for travel with family to try and drive this idea home! Travel is a constant source of learning.  Hit the road and everyone will gain a better understanding of themselves and the world.

“Not all classrooms have four walls.”

The education you get isn’t always as obvious as the book-learning of facts and figures. Instead, the road is your classroom and the experiences are the teachers. You learn by diving headlong into them.

These inspiring family quotes might be enough to trust in the education your family would get from the road.

Personal Favourite Travelling With Family Quotes

Here are some family travel quotes that stood out to me above all others…

“Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.”

We owe it to ourselves to forge an incredible life. We only get one shot at it. Travelling as a family ensures that both you and your kids get a head-start at living life right. I hope these short quotes on family travel are convincing you to give it a go!

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.”

It’s easy to take your problems, misgivings and grievances with you on the road. Do your best to leave them at home. Enter fully into the experience of travelling with your family! Heed these quotes about family vacations and make the most of the trip.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”

I could have put this quote in the educational family adventure quotes category. But I liked it too much. The world makes you realise many truths about yourself and the world. It forces you to become a better person all-round.

kerouac-9545001

Family vacation quotes don’t get much better than this one from the almighty Jack Kerouac. I love his quote about traveling with family.

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddam mountain.”

You have to love Jack Kerouac.

He pretty much singlehandedly inspired wanderlust in an entire generation of travellers. You can see how. Make this quote a mantra for life. Stop thinking about travelling with your kids, and just go do it!

…Just read the rest of these vacation with family quotes first!

General Family Vacation Quotes About Travel with Family

These quotes about travelling with family are related to travel in general. But I couldn’t help but draw a connection to what family traveling would be like…

“Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footsteps on the moon.”

I love this quote about travelling with family!

The world offers endless opportunities to you and your family. You just have to be brave and willing to take that step into the unknown. I hope these travel and family quotes are inspiring you to give it a go!

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

You owe it to yourself to make your life, and that of your children, as great as possible. Nothing else makes sense. Travel offers a recipe for doing just that. Hopefully, these quotes on travelling with family are convincing you to give it a shot!

“The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.”

Listen to Oprah. The family travel caption she provides here is definitely one to keep in mind.

Do you dream about having an adventure with your family? Then go turn it into a reality. You won’t regret it.

Of all the family outing quotes on this list, this one’s sure to strike a chord! Going away as a family is one of the greatest experiences you could ever have!

115 Father And Son Quotes That Represent A Special Bond

115 Father And Son Quotes That Represent A Special Bond

There is a tradition between men with a familial bond, a tradition of passing the torch on as the so called head of the family.

This is more symbolic than literal in these modern times, but it still holds a great deal of meaning. It’s a sort of trust between men that goes from grandfather to father to son to the son’s son, etc.

The greatest gift and the greatest honor a son can receive from his dear old dad is when the father leaves the son to continue the legacy of the family name.

Now sure, all of this might sound more important than it really is, but between father and son, it’s something truly symbolic.

It’s like watching two best friends go out playing football, fishing, playing games, learning to drive a car and so on and so forth as they carry on being dudes, for lack of a better term.

So how can this relationship of father and son be explained properly?

Well, some people have managed to condense it into a number of father and son quotes, whether they are famous or not, it doesn’t matter.

What matters is that they were all either fathers, sons, or people who understood the bond.

Maybe these inspirational quotes will give your kids an idea of what to write in their next Father’s Day card.

The art of fathering

father and son sunset

Fathers like taking risks, being somewhat reckless, allowing their children to explore new things in a ‘trial by fire’ sort of way.

I’m not going to lie, it tends to terrify me at times, but that’s just that overly developed maternal instinct of mine.

Heck, I even got scared when my children’s father slightly lifted the kids up when they were babies.

But over time, I learned that he knew what he was doing.

Don’t get me wrong, I still get nervous when he mentions trip ideas like rafting, but he’s just trying to introduce our kids to something fun.

He’s trying to help develop their taste for excitement and maybe have them pick up some new hobbies they can enjoy later when mommy’s stuck at work or for our next family outing.

Some moms might think “Am I meant to be jealous of the love a father gets?”. Not really. Especially not when it comes to the son.

Sons naturally like their mamma best. It’ll be darn hard for him to choose dad over you, even if you only do half the things that he might do.

I’m not saying us moms do nothing, far from it, but we get this natural advantage of being our kids’ birth givers, so the kids imprint on us like any cub would to their mom.

Dads don’t get this privilege – they have to work hard, they have to earn the respect of their offspring as weird as it sounds.

But all of it ends up being worth it in the end.

So, don’t let it get stuck in your head that you have to be better or one-up them, do things at your own pace and let dad have his space for what he wants to do.

Raising kids, whether they’re sons or daughters, is a joint effort after all.

Seeing these father-son quotes makes one realize that a father means to do the best for their son despite them taking a somewhat wayward route sometimes.

It’s because they have a harder time expressing what they truly mean, most of them anyway. It’s just how men are.

They will bumble around a topic until they find the best way to say it. Some can take months to say what truly is on their minds.

But it’s these ‘bumbling men’ who will do their best to strive to give their son a perfect childhood and to become the role model that they need, a guide for how to build their character up as they grow.

And I can tell you that it’s one of the most heartwarming things you can experience if you take your time to look at it from afar.

40 father-son quotes that celebrate the bond between boys and dads

“Having kids is a reason to travel, never a reason to stop.”

Long family travel quotes

“I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again.

You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.”

– Bill Bryson

“Children have always travelled, and because they are young and bright and full of contradictions, they haven’t always restricted their travel to the possible. Children follow the foxes, and open the wardrobes, and peek beneath the bridge. Children climb the walls and fall down the wells and run the razor’s edge of possibility until sometimes, just sometimes, the possible surrenders and shows them the way to go home.”

– Seanan McGuire

“I think that the best thing we can do for our children is to allow them to do things for themselves, allow them to be strong, allow them to experience life on their own terms, allow them to take the subway… let them be better people, let them believe more in themselves.”

– JoyBell C.

Quotes about life lessons and world schooling

In many ways, deciding to travel with school-aged kids is a big leap of faith. Swapping routine for the great unknown isn’t an easy decision – but it almost always pays dividends.

I’m lucky enough to come from a family where my parents viewed travel as an important part of our upbringing. Immersing yourself in a different culture , hands-on history lessons, learning a new language – these are just some of the incredibly enriching life experiences that can come from travel.

Not to mention all the wonderful lessons you learn about yourself (and your family members) when you’re pushed out of your comfort zone!

No matter how old you are, travel is an important educational experience. These quotes about life lessons and world schooling illustrate how beneficial family travel can be to shaping young minds in particular.

A young girl sitting in a tuk-tuk.

“Travel is rich with learning opportunities, and the ultimate souvenir is a broader perspective.”

– Rick Steves

“Not all classrooms have four walls.”

“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”

– Margaret Mead

“Travel is like an endless university. You never stop learning.”

– Harvey Lloyd

“When you travel with children you are giving something that can never be taken away: Experience, exposure and a way of life.”

– Pamela Chandler

“The best education you will ever get is traveling. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences.”

– Mark Paterson

A woman and child overlooking Lake Bled in Slovenia.

“Don’t tell me how educated you are. Tell me how much you’ve travelled.”

– Prophet Muhammad

“A great way to learn about your country is to leave it.”

– Henry Rollins

“Ideally, travel broadens our perspectives personally, culturally, and politically. Suddenly, the palette with which we paint the story of our lives has more colours.”

We never stop learning, and travel is extremely enriching for adults, too. Travelling with kids and seeing the world through a child’s eyes is a powerful way to gain a fresh perspective on an otherwise familiar environment or culture.

“If we experienced life through the eyes of a child, everything would be magical and extraordinary. Let our curiosity, adventure and wonder of life never end.”

– Akiane Kramarik

“Children learn more from what you are than what you teach.”

– W.E.B. DuBois

“The mother’s heart is the child’s school room.”

– Henry Ward Beecher

Quotes the prove travel is a gift

I’m firmly of the belief that travel is a privilege. Giving the gift of travel to your children is one of the most important and generous things a parent can do. Travel is a way to discover the world, but it’s also a way to form stronger bonds with those most important to you.

Young kids might not realise it now, but the travel experiences you create for them are almost guaranteed to leave a lasting impression into adulthood.

Just be careful how much of a passion for travel you end up cultivating – having now lived abroad for 5 years, I’m sure my parents wish I hadn’t grown up to be quite so interested in travel!

“Two of the greatest gifts we can give our children are roots and wings.”

– Hodding Carter

“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.”

– Og Mandino

“Travel in the younger sort is a part of education; in the elder, a part of experience.”

– Francis Bacon

A parent and child overlooking a beautiful mountain landscape.

“In the end, kids won’t remember that fancy toy you bought them, they will remember the time you spent with them.”

– Kevin Heath

“Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

“The greatest tragedy of the family is the un-lived lives of the parents.”

– Carl Jung

“Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.”

– Jamie Lyn Beatty

A person holding a small globe.

“Travel is not reward for working, it’s education for living.”

– Anthony Bourdain

“Never forget that anticipation is an important part of life. Work’s important, family’s important, but without excitement, you have nothing. You’re cheating yourself if you refuse to enjoy what’s coming.”

– Nicholas Sparks

Quotes that prove travel makes family bonds stronger

Travel is, in my opinion, the most rewarding thing you can do – but it also has a way of throwing you head-first into difficult situations. Learning to navigate foreign terrain with your family – to negotiate and to work together towards a common goal – is an equally important part of travel.

These beautiful family travel quotes highlight the importance of relationships and show how journeys taken together can strengthen those family bonds.

Two people holding hands.

“Home isn’t where you’re from, it’s where you find light when all grows dark.”

– Pierce Brown

“Happiness is only real when shared.”

– Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

“To be a baby elephant must be wonderful. Surrounded by a loving family 24 hours a day…. I think it must be how it ought to be, in a perfect world.”

– Daphne Sheldrick

“What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.”

– Mother Teresa

“The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof.”

– Richard Bach

Funny family travel quotes

Let’s face it – travelling with family (especially young kids) isn’t always the path of least resistance!

I hope these comedic family travel captions might lighten the mood next time you’re feeling overwhelmed or fed up.

“I take my children everywhere, but they always find their way back home.”

– Robert Orben

“A road trip is a way for the whole family to spend time together and annoy each other in interesting new places.”

– Tom Lichtenheld

A boy looking out a plane window.

“There are two kinds of travel: first class and with children.”

– Robert Benchley

“Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city.”

– George Burns

“You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance.”

– Franklin P. Jones

“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.”

– Mark Twain

“The mud will wash off but the memories will last a lifetime.”

“Have you ever noticed how parents can go from the most wonderful people in the world to totally embarrassing in three seconds?”

– Rick Riordan

“…If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the eons, it’s that you can’t give up on your family, no matter how tempting they make it.”

100 Miss You Dad Quotes From Son

Editorial Team

(SeaWorld has announced that it would no longer be breeding killer whales, making the current population the final one to be shown at the park.) Belmont Park is near the seaside and features numerous rides, including a vintage wooden roller coaster. If that isn’t enough, Legoland is only a half-drive hour north of the city.

Huntsville, Alabama

Huntsville walks with one foot in the past and one in the future. Many families visit Huntsville yearly to see the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, the city’s most well-known landmark. As the original site of Space Camp, the center currently hosts a wide range of space-related summer and winter activities for kids and adults. But in Huntsville, Alabama, the past is never far away.

Constitutional Village is where the state’s constitution was signed, so history buffs can take their kids there to learn about the past firsthand. Burritt on the Mountain is a mountainside estate granted to the city with a historic park and a plethora of nature trails, perfect for those who want to combine their love of history and the outdoors. Earlyworks Children’s Museum is the largest interactive history museum for kids in the South. Huntsville is a fantastic vacation spot for dads and their sons, whether they want to explore the future or relive the past.

Branson, Missouri

Tips for a Great Father-Son Trip

Although Branson isn’t usually the first place people think of when planning father-son trips, it’s a great place for dads and their sons to spend quality time together. The region is known for its homegrown musical revues, but the city also hosts comedy acts, animal displays, and grand spectacles. There is an abundance of strange mini-golf courses and other tacky attractions. Also, don’t miss the largest toy museum in the world!

The nearby Table Rock Lake is a great spot for camping and water activities. Visit Silver Dollar City , a theme park with an educational edge, or the underground Talking Rocks Cavern. Many of the theatres in Branson provide holiday shows during the holiday season, and the city is illuminated by millions of lights, making Christmastime a wonderful time to come. No matter the season, dads and their sons will have a blast exploring Branson together.

Williamsburg, Virginia

History buffs are sure to enjoy their father-son trips to the brim at Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg is almost 300 acres large and has sights that will take you back to the 18th century, making it the largest living history museum in the world. Colonial Williamsburg is a popular tourist destination, but few people know there is no entry fee. There is no entry fee to walk the streets, interact with the living history guides, shop, or dine in the old district.

Entrance to the historic sites is by the purchase of a ticket only. Looking for a place to lay your hat? You can pick from hotels, including those on the grounds of Williamsburg, resorts that cater to families, or motels that are easier on the wallet.

Orlando, Florida

Theme parks aren’t the only way to enjoy father-son trips in Orlando. Orlando’s primary industry, and its purpose for being, is amusement parks. The choice between Disney World and Universal Orlando Resorts will mostly come to you and your son. You should first know that these two monsters are several parks rolled into one.

Toy Story Land, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot are just a few theme parks in Walt Disney World. Universal’s Orlando theme park complex features Universal Studios Orlando and Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and a water park. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, located in the Islands of Adventure park, is a must-see for any child old enough to have read the books and seen the movies.

Phoenix, Arizona

The attractions you anticipate from a major city are present in this desert metropolis, along with a few unusual ones. One of these is the Musical Instrument Museum. It’s not necessary to be musical to appreciate this exquisitely crafted library with instruments from worldwide. It also hosts concerts by a wide range of musical acts. Children aged one to four can participate in Mini Music Makers classes.

The Hall of Flame Firefighting Museum is another one-of-a-kind attraction in Phoenix, and it may contain the greatest collection of firefighting equipment and memorabilia in the world. When visiting Phoenix in the summer, cool off in one of the city’s many pools, splash pads, or water parks.

Los Angeles, California

The variety of attractions in the Los Angeles area is comparable to that of Orlando. You and your son can enjoy a trip to the original Disneyland or Disney California Adventure in Anaheim. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened at Universal Studios in 2016, adding to the park’s original Studio Tour.

Those looking for a thrill may enjoy visiting Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, which features a number of different roller coasters. Those looking for an activity that is a little less hectic but still a lot of fun should check out Knott’s Berry Farm. The Getty Museum, the La Brea tar pits, the Hollywood sign, and the Walk of Fame are among more must-see attractions in Los Angeles that may easily be combined with a visit to a theme park.

Also, you can explore more about your hometown and there are plenty of fun things to do in a small town and this will help make your day perfect before the trip.

Snake River, Idaho

Snake River trips are highly recommended for anyone interested in experiencing a true river adventure. There is a wide range of activities available in Idaho, but most of them require participants to be at least four years old. Rafting trips are among the most well-known excursions.

You can plan a half-day, full-day trip, or even a multi-day adventure and camp by the river. If you don’t like whitewater rafting, you may do plenty of other water activities, such as fishing, canoeing, paddle boarding, and swimming. The gorgeous Shoshone Falls is another must-see in the area.

Father-Son Camping Trip Ideas

Father-Son Camping Trip Ideas

An unforgettable camping trip is a perfect way to spend quality time with your father or son. Put down your phones and leave the modern world’s stresses behind as you spend quality time together in nature. These father-son camping trip ideas are a great way to bond as men in a way that simply staying at home won’t be able to do. Here are some camping trip options for fathers and sons to choose from, based on the level of excitement and activity you both enjoy.

Rock Creek Station State Historic Park, Nebraska

In need of father-son camping trip ideas with a historical theme? Rock Creek State Historic Park is the best place to learn about the area’s wild past. The station that gave the park its name served as an official Pony Express stop in 1857. A deadly gunfight between James Butler’s “Wild Bill” Hickok and David McCanles in July 1861 made headlines worldwide. Also, some buildings from two 1858-1860 ranches have been restored thanks to archaeological excavations.

South Toledo Bend State Park, Louisiana

South Toledo Bend State Park is ideally situated on high cliffs overlooking the Toledo Bend Reservoir. The reservoir is well-known throughout the country for its excellent bass fishing. The park provides various outdoor recreational options, including hiking, cycling, birdwatching, and plenty of off-roading for the ATV-driving dad.

Red Fleet State Park, Utah

Due to the abundance of dinosaur fossils in the area, northeastern Utah has earned the nickname “Dinosaurland.” In the center of Dinosaurland, Red Fleet State Park is home to two amazing dinosaur footprints. It is estimated that the tridactyl traces found in Navajo sandstone date back more than 200 million years. Around 40 tracks of a dinosaur species from more recent geologic times have been found nearby. You may hike to the dinosaur tracks inside the park and then visit the adjoining Dinosaur National Monument for even more fossils.

Trap Pond State Park, Delaware

This is our best father-son camping trip recommendation for a father who enjoys taking a kayak or canoe into the swamp at Trap Pond State Park. When you enter this river, you’ll find yourself in the heart of a unique ecosystem dominated by beautiful bald cypress trees. Wildflowers of all kinds bloom among the northernmost bald cypress trees on the East Coast, and a wide variety of birds, frogs, and turtles call this area home. Water trails in the park allow visitors to explore the area’s extensive wetland by canoe or kayak.

Kickapoo Cavern State Park, Texas

Kickapoo Cavern State Park is a great place to go cave exploring with a dad or a son who enjoys an adventure. Kickapoo Cavern State Park, located west of San Antonio, is a sparsely constructed park where visitors can marvel at the park’s natural caves, trails, and native bats, birds, and other species. Kickapoo Cavern, the main cavern, is approximately 1,400 feet long and was formed over 4 million years of geologic change. Every night in the dark, you may observe them emerging from the cave to search for insects. Bring your binoculars to observe as many of the park’s 240 migratory and resident bird species as possible!

Tips for Planning Memorable Father-Son Trips

The Most Memorable Father Son Trips image

  • The first step on how to plan a father-son trip is to get into a routine. Plan ahead of vacations together, no matter how brief, to maintain the strong link between father and kid.
  • Communicate effectively. There are many chances for a conversation on trips; take advantage of them by being as detailed and forthright as possible because you never know when you might have this opportunity again.
  • Be adaptable. Planned activities are helpful, but it’s the unexpected moments that bring a group closer together.
  • Start right away. Postponing trips with the kids often end up in disappointment for both dad and son. It’s not necessary to go far; as long as dad and son are together, that’s all that matters.

Final Thoughts

Father-son trips aim to foster a lifelong bond between the two. These father-son trips allow men to share their stories and ask for advice while learning new skills. However, it is always a good idea to break out of your normal routine and experience something new with your loved one. Most importantly, these father-son trips don’t have to be week-long adventures; they can be a day trip to a museum or a quick golf game. Dads and sons of all ages can enjoy these father-son trips, and that includes grandfathers too! Life provides many opportunities to be close, but it is up to you to make the most of those moments.

From football to TV shows, Kansas City has become tremendously popular in the last couple of years. The first thing that comes to mind is that Modern Family episode where Cam and Mitch visit Missouri and engage in a ton of exciting adventures. If you have a cowboy side and like getting your hands and boots dirty, this location can be great for some father-son bonding.

Popular sights

If you don’t like to ride horses and purchase a cowboy hat, then you can go to a football game and watch the magic of Patrick Mahomes.

“I know I said you are too young for a beer, but here, take a sip of mine” – these words can only be said by a father when his happiness level is through the roof. What makes a man happy, you ask? Well, football, of course.

Things to do

From juicy barbecue to jazz music, Kansas city is great for a father-son trip. Without disclosing too many specific locations, Kansas is a funhouse of activities. Kaleidoscope is another great facility that has different types of art. You can visit museums, aquariums, and some unusual attractions like the Mesner Puppet Studio.

If your son is a teenager and enjoys history, you can go to the National WWI Museum and Memorial.

Located 30 miles south of Los Angeles, California , Disneyland is in Anaheim and is the Happiest Place on Earth. Whether you decide to visit the amusement park by car or plane, you will definitely have an unforgettable trip.

Popular sights

Disneyland is on everyone’s bucket list, especially people who live outside of the USA. We’ve seen this park in movies, TV shows, and in many entertaining forms. Regardless of age, everyone can have a ton of fun in Disneyland. From rollercoasters to Abraham Lincoln museums, this amusement park is perfect.

Things to do

The relationship between father and son requires constant work and should never be neglected. A trip to Disneyland could be the perfect way to bond and talk about some hardheaded questions.

Disneyland is 30 miles from LA, which means that the trip could be a week or two weeks long. By visiting this amusement park, you can unwind and recharge your batteries.

If you are into sports, outside the park there is an amazing golf course on which you can play or enjoy a nice walk.

Oh, the Grand Canyon, Arizona , is the place that offers a one-of-a-kind view and an unforgettable experience. There is a huge reason why this National Park is so popular, and you can’t find anyone on the planet who doesn’t like to visit it.

Being one of the most acclaimed trip destinations, the Grand Canyon is a perfect location for a father-son trip. The National park is over 1,900 square miles and promises an iconic sight once you get to the top.

The canyon offers such great views, so you must have your camera with you. However, there is a downside. Because the Grand Canyon is so big, you will need quite some time to do everything you want.

Don’t let the sight overwhelm you and make you stunned. There is enough time to capture a photo from every angle.

Because the National Park is so large and people need to stay for multiple days, there are plenty of accommodation options. If you are interested in outdoor lodging, you can visit Zion View Camping or choose a hotel or a cabin.

Regardless of where you choose to stay, you will have multiple opportunities to explore the park and go hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, or railroad sightseeing.

You’ve heard it before, “I can’t wait to retire and go down to Florida where I can be in flip-flops all day and drive a scooter on a golf course.” But that doesn’t mean you should wait for retirement to visit this place.

While it sounds appealing, to say the least, Orlando has a lot of worthwhile sights and is a great destination for a father and son. Other than visiting golf courses, Orlando has a number of parks. The parks are a great reason to get excited until you choose between Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World .

As we mentioned above, Walt Disney World has multiple parks in one. You can also visit the Magic Kingdom, Epcot , Hollywood Studios and other fun places.

You can visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter , which is an iconic destination for Harry Potter fans of all ages.

Of course, if you need a smaller theme park that will not overwhelm you, you can visit Legoland or SeaWorld . It’s safe to say – in Orlando, you will never be bored.

Nothing may strengthen the bond between a father and his son like fishing. Imagine you are out on the lake, there is peace and quiet, and you have nothing else to do but chat. Now, at first, you may start with something not so personal, but as time goes by, serious topics are bound to come out.

If a “river adventure” sounds appealing, the Snake River is a great place to visit. Idaho has some weird locations that everyone should visit. The state is filled with some “crazy” and attractive places. Also, did you know that the sumo champion of America is from Idaho?

Despite having a scary name, the Snake River is perfect for a father-son trip. There is only one rule, your son has to be at least four years old so that he can participate in the Idaho adventures.

Rafting excursions are the most popular, but if rafting is not your cup of tea, you can enjoy calm waters, go fishing, swim, or rent a canoe.

The best part about it is the Snake River trips are half-day, full-day, or multi-day. You can choose whichever adventure you like. If you decide on a multi-day trip, you can sleep beside the river.

You can also visit Shoshone Falls if you have the time.

If the cold doesn’t bother you, Montana is perfect for a father-son trip. Located in the Mountain West division, Montana is part of the Western United States. Close to Idaho, North and South Dakota, Wyoming , Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. By visiting Montana, you can see a lot of great places on your way up there.

On your way to Montana, you can stop in Saskatchewan. This place is the staple of country music, and if you know how to play guitar, showing up in karaoke bars with a teenager can be a lot of fun.

Montana’s annual snow reaches 25 feet, but the view from a cabin is definitely worth it. The state has great fishing trips for some quality father-son time.

One of the most popular places is Glacier National Park. The park has great scenery and some of the best fishing spots.

Additionally, Lake McDonald is located in Glacier National Park together with the Two Medicine Lakes. You can pack your boots and go for a hike or two.

Plus, you can get the most unique experience and stay in the Lake McDonald Lodge, which is right on the lake.

Another icy and great place for a father-son fishing trip in Alaska . A list of the best father-son trip ideas would not be complete without mentioning this state. Alaska is an epic place filled with fun activities. If you are into fishing, the Kenai Peninsula is the perfect place for it.

This place is famous for being the spawning ground for millions of pacific salmon. To explore the entire Kenai river, you will need a couple of months, and there are a ton of fun activities to engage in on your father-son trip.

Also, you can explore the glaciers of Kenai Fjords National Park. In the meantime, you can stay at a cabin near the Glacier and wake up to an amazing sight each day.

You can engage in a bit of luxury and stay at the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood. On your way to Alaska, you can have a sneak peek at Portage. This town has no residents and was destroyed by an earthquake back in 1964.

While in Alaska, take the time to visit the Katmai National Park and see live grizzly bears running around. You can watch grizzlies catch salmon at Brooks Falls. It’s an unforgettable experience.

This park should be on everyone’s bucket list. Being one of California’s hidden gems, Yosemite National Park has amazing cliff-top sights. From books to plummeting waterfalls, a park is an extraordinary place for some father-son bonding.

Till now, we talked more about fishing trips and hikes, but if you are into hiking, this park is the place to go to. Yosemite National Park has more than 13 campgrounds. You can go there and rent a tent or park your RV and relax to the maximum.

If you don’t have an RV or don’t like to spend the night outside in a tent, don’t worry. In Yosemite National Park, there are amazing and affordable lodges together with rustic cabins.

This National Park is a lot more than an amazing valley. Yosemite is a shrine that makes people drop their jaws with beautiful glaciers. The High Sierra camps are nestled in the wilderness, and there is nothing but nature around them. Needless to say, you can find a lot of peace in these camps.

Regardless of your interests, Yosemite National Park has something for every father and son. The land is around 1,200 square miles and has deep valleys, green meadows, and a lot of wildlife.

If your son is old enough to drink, a trip to Tennessee can definitely help you bond. Nashville is a nest filled with country musicians and plenty of alcohol. Imagine the road trip, both of you can wear a cowboy hat and put on Chris Stapleton on the radio.

Here’s an idea: you can visit the distilleries in South Central Tennessee for a one-day trip. If you don’t want to be tied down to one location, you can roam around the city and enjoy its beautiful sights. Nashville has great scenery filled with small craft distilleries and barbecues.

The Jack Daniel Distillery is located about 1.5 hours south of Nashville, and the best part about it while going there is that you can visit a bunch of other craft distillers along the way.

Don’t get the misconception that Nashville is only for the people who like to play music and drink whiskey. If you and your son are looking for a sporting adventure, you can visit Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Hartford. There is a ton of whitewater rafting, mountain bikes, and short but sweet trails.

Like a cherry on top, you can visit Gatlinburg and go to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

father son trip quotes

The National Lakeshore is located in the lower part of Michigan and, in 2011, was voted as one of the most beautiful places to visit by Good Morning America . This spot hugs the South and North Manitou islands together with the northeast shore of Lake Michigan.

The name gives it all away, but the park is so popular because of the giant scalable dunes of the Dune Climb. Also, there are a ton of beaches, like the Platte River Point, that flow right into the lake.

The National Lakeshore is a great spot for a father-son trip, but you can also bring the girls from the family and have an entire vacation. You can go on hikes on the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail and visit the Port Oneida forest, which is filled with 19th-century farmsteads.

In 2011, Sleeping Bear Dunes shined a light on Michigan and was featured on Good Morning America over some locations that were unquestionably more popular.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a sight for sore eyes. It has towering dunes, crystalline water, lush forests, and sandy beaches, and for a father-and-son bonding trip, there are a ton of fun activities that will make the time fly.

You and your son can hike, bike, or rent a canoe or something more challenging like a kayak.

father son trip quotes

Now, at first, you may think, “all these locations are going to get me dirty and tired,” but in this article and in life, we like to focus more on things that money can’t buy. Therefore, we like to suggest father-son trip ideas that offer an unforgettable experience.

Let us just say a bunch of words that will make you feel warm inside and make you reach for the travel guide and book a trip to Dallas immediately. The Mavericks, The Cowboys, Golf, Luka Doncic, BBQ, breweries, and museums. There is a lot more from where that came from if you decide to book a father-son trip in Dallas.

Also, you can pay tribute to the Dallas Holocaust and visit the Human Rights Museum. If you want exceptionally tasty food, wine, and live entertainment, Deep Ellum should be your next stop.

Houston is a great spot for a father-son trip. You can go fishing, boating, camping, or visit some historical sites and museums.

Texas is awesome for a father-son or father-daughter trip. The state offers the infamous JFK assassination site, the Frontiers of Flight Museum, the Perot Museum of Nature, and much more.

Catch the Thrill of Fishing

Reeling In Memories: A Heartfelt Poem About Father-Son Fishing Trip

Setting the scene.

The gentle sound of waves lapping against our driftwood boat brings a sense of peace as we prepare to cast our lines. The water is calm, the sun is shining, and we’re surrounded by the beauty of nature. I take a deep breath and look out over the water, feeling grateful for this time with my dad. This is not just any ordinary day of fishing – it’s a tradition that has been passed down through generations, and one that carries a special significance to me.The familiar and comforting sound of the waves against the boat echoes through my mind as I reflect on the memories of fishing with my father. We’re in his old boat, the one that had been passed down to him from his father, and it has become a source of comradery and tradition for us. That’s because this isn’t just any ordinary fishing trip, it’s an excuse to spend quality time with one another while engaging in a favorite pastime. My father is wise and patient and I know that one day I’ll look back and appreciate all the times we’ve spent together on the water.

As I gather my tackle and prepare my rod, a wave of memories floods my mind. I remember fishing for the first time with my dad and the sense of accomplishment I felt when I finally caught a fish on my own. I think about all the lessons he taught me, not just about fishing but about life, and how they have stayed with me all these years. The quiet moments we spent together on the water offered a chance to talk about anything and everything. As we cast our lines, it was an opportunity to bond over a common interest – one that we both love and cherish to this day. These memories remain with me, even as I continue to make new ones. The air is crisp and the water is still as we set sail for a day of fishing, just as we have done so many times before. I smile as I recall the moments shared with my dad – the lessons learned, the fish caught (and released), and the joy of spending quality time in each other’s company. The calm of the morning carried with it the promise of a good day of fishing, but also something more valuable – an opportunity to create precious memories that would last a lifetime. As the sun climbs higher into the sky and the day heats up, our attempts to catch a fish become a little more desperate. With each unsuccessful cast, my father and I glance at each other, sharing an unspoken understanding. It’s okay if we don’t catch anything – the true joy is in the act of fishing itself, in the bonding and the memories created. This is a time for us to slow down, to enjoy the moment, and to appreciate each other. No matter what we catch, it’s these moments that we’ll treasure most of all.

Bonding on the Boat

Even as our lines remain still, I find myself content, simply being in the presence of my dad. I take in the beauty of the surrounding landscape – the calmness of the water, the majesty of the mountains, and the vibrant colors of the sky. I know that these moments will remain with me for years to come. As my dad and I talk about everything from life to shared interests, the memories of our previous fishing trips come flooding back. I’m reminded of the joy that comes with spending quality time together, with no interruptions or distractions.

The quiet lull of the water allows us to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. While we cast our lines, we find ourselves exploring deeper topics that we might not have time for otherwise. It’s a moment to clear our minds, let go of worries, and focus on the moment. Fishing with dad isn’t just about the fish – it’s about creating a space where we can connect and bond on a deeper level. There’s something special about sharing this tradition of fishing with my dad, and I know that these moments we’re spending together are creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

As we navigate the water, I take a moment to appreciate my father’s infinite patience and wisdom. Fishing with dad has taught me so much about life – lessons about being patient, dealing with disappointment, and persevering even when things get tough. These lessons have become ingrained in who I am, and I know that they’ll serve me well throughout my life.

I glance over at my dad, watching as he carefully removes a fish from his line. His face is etched with a sense of contentment and pride as he holds the fish up and examines it. Seeing the joy on his face brings a warmth to my heart, and I’m reminded of how lucky I am to have such a wonderful father and fishing partner. I’m grateful for this moment, for the chance to connect with nature, and for the memories that we’re creating together. As we continue to navigate the water, I find myself lost in thought, reflecting on the moments we’ve shared together throughout the years. Fishing with my dad is not just a pastime – it’s a way to feel connected to him, and to carry on a tradition that has been passed down through generations. I think about my grandfather, and how he must have felt when he fished with my father as a young man.

The soothing sound of the water and my father’s voice bring me back to the present, and I realize that this moment is just as special as any of the others we’ve shared together. It’s not about how many fish we catch or what size they are; it’s about the memories that we’re creating and the bond that we’re strengthening together. As we continue to cast our lines and navigate the water, I know that I’ll forever treasure the time I’ve spent fishing with my dad.Fishing with my dad is a moment in time that I’ll always cherish. It’s a chance to escape into the peace and quiet of nature, to bond with my father, and to create memories that will be cherished for years to come. Fishing with dad taught me the importance of slowing down, of taking a moment to appreciate the world around us, and of being patient and steadfast in the face of challenges. It’s a tradition that I hope to continue with my own family one day.

As we finally reach the end of our fishing trip and prepare to return to shore, I take one last look at the water, feeling grateful for this special time with my dad. No matter where the future takes us, I know that we’ll continue to have these moments together – moments of peace, of bonding, and of creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Fishing with dad is an experience that I’ll always treasure, and one that I hope to pass on to future generations.

Reflections on the Past

As we quietly wait for a bite on our lines, I can’t help but think of the memories of father-son fishing trips we’ve shared over the years. The sound of the water gently lapping at the sides of the boat creates a serene atmosphere that allows us to disconnect from the busyness of life. Here, on the water, we are free to bond and create an unbreakable connection. The day may be full of waiting, but it’s the time together that’s far more valuable. As we fish together, an unspoken bond is strengthened and I am reminded of the life lessons my dad taught me throughout the years. The time we spend together on the boat is precious, providing an opportunity for conversation and reflection. As each minute goes by, it is as if we are gaining so much more than simply fish. This father-son bonding experience is one that can’t be replicated and will forever be cherished in my heart.

These fishing trips with my dad always bring back memories of my childhood. As I grasp the fishing line, and feel the soft vibrations of the current, I am taken back to the first time my father took me fishing. The memories of that day flood back to me: the sound of dad’s laughter as I reeled in my first catch, the pride I felt in myself for being able to cast out, and the warmth of the sun on my face.

Every fishing trip I take reminds me of how much I learned from my dad that day and how much I still have left to learn. Every trip presents an opportunity to build on our relationship and create new memories – to continue to strengthen that bond between father and son.As we cast our lines into the still waters of the lake, I am reminded of the delicate balance of life and the importance of preserving traditions for future generations. Father-son fishing trips are a legacy passed on from one generation to the next, and it is our responsibility to continue these traditions, cherishing the moments spent together.

The beauty of the surroundings, the sounds of the water, and the silence of the moment are only a small part of the experience. It’s the chance to bond with my dad and spend quality time together that makes this trip so special. The lessons learned while fishing alongside him will be with me forever and will be passed down for generations to come.

Cherishing the Present

As we continue to fish together on the boat, more and more memories flood my mind. It’s amazing how these fishing trips can create a flood of emotions and memories all at once. From my first catch to the times I spent untangling my line, each memory, good or bad, has a special meaning to me. Reflecting on these past experiences and discussing them with my dad highlights the value of this father-son tradition.

Being on the water with my dad is a moment in time that I hold close to my heart, and as we patiently wait for a fish to bite, I am grateful for this time spent with him. There is something special about being on the water with someone you care about and sharing in the beauty of nature. As I watch him cast his line, I am reminded of how grateful I am to have this opportunity to bond with my father. It’s moments like these that I will always cherish and pass on to future generations.

The importance of cherishing the moments we share on these father-son fishing trips cannot be overstated. It’s not always about the quantity of the time that we spend together, but rather the quality of the time we share. Every minute on the boat with my dad is precious, a chance to bond and create memories that will last a lifetime.

These fishing trips teach us important life lessons that we can’t learn from any other experience. Patience, persistence, and hard work – all these values are instilled in us as we fish alongside our fathers. These lessons help us to grow as individuals, gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world, and build stronger relationships with our loved ones.

We may only have a few hours or a day to bond on the water, but the impact of that time lingers long after we’ve packed up our gear. And so, as we sit together waiting for the fish to bite, I am reminded of just how important it is to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones. I am grateful for this time spent with my dad and will continue to make an effort to create these memories with him in the future.Expanding on our reflections, we come to understand that time with our fathers is so much more than simply fishing; it is an opportunity to connect with family and create memories that will last a lifetime. As we sit in the boat, baiting our hooks and casting our lines, it’s a chance to discuss life and its complexities with someone who has experienced it all.

There is something special about being on the water that allows us to let our guard down, open up, and truly connect on a deeper level. The simple act of casting our lines and waiting for a bite allows us to clear our minds and get lost in the moment. These are the moments that we will look back on and cherish; they are the memories that will last a lifetime.

As the day on the water begins to wind down, I am reminded of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of making every moment count. It is times like these that I feel beyond grateful for the opportunity to have shared these memories with my father. These fishing trips are more than just a tradition; they are a chance to slow down, connect with family, and create memories that we will cherish for years to come.

Making the decision to continue this tradition with future generations is a way to keep those memories alive. Passing on the lessons learned and ensuring that these trips continue to happen is how we can preserve this legacy. It’s a legacy of connection, bonding, and creating memories with those we love most, and it’s up to us to continue this tradition.

As we pack up our gear, I take one final look over the water, and in that moment, I am grateful for everything. Every lesson learned, every conversation had, and every memory made has led us to this moment. It is a moment that we will never forget, and a reminder of just how strong the bond between father and son can be.

The sun begins to dip below the horizon as we climb back into the car, bringing an end to this father-son fishing trip. But as I reflect on the day, I realize that it’s the beginning of something more. It’s the beginning of a new chapter in our relationship, one built on shared experiences, memories, and lessons learned.

Fishing with my dad is something I will always cherish, and I know that these memories will stay with me for a lifetime. It’s not just about the fish we catch or the time spent on the water; it’s about the bond we share and the memories we create, and that is something truly beautiful.

As we drive home, I am left with a feeling of contentment and joy in my heart. I am grateful for this day spent on the water with my dad, and I am already looking forward to the next time we cast our lines together.Expanding on our reflections, we come to understand that time with our fathers is so much more than simply fishing; it is an opportunity to connect with family and create memories that will last a lifetime.

As the water gently ripples around us, I am reminded of the importance of seizing the moment and making the most of our time with loved ones. As we pack up our gear and make our way back to dry land, I am filled with a sense of appreciation for this special opportunity to bond with my father once more. Fishing may be just an activity, but these fleeting moments spent on the water have the power to create lasting memories that we will treasure forever.

(From left) James Crumbley, his attorney Mariell Lehman, Jennifer Crumbley and her attorney Shannon Smith sit in court in Pontiac, Mich., for Tuesday's sentencing on four counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of four Oxford High School students who were shot and killed by the Crumbleys' son.

James and Jennifer Crumbley, whose son murdered four classmates and shot seven other people at Oxford High School in 2021, were each sentenced Tuesday in a Pontiac, Mich. courtroom to between 10 and 15 years in prison.

Both Crumbleys were found guilty in separate trials on four counts of involuntary manslaughter. Each of those charges carried a maximum penalty of 15 years, and the sentences are to be served concurrently.

In court, the Crumbleys looked visibly shaken, breathing heavily as they read from prepared statements prior to learning their fate.

James Crumbley spoke directly to the parents of the students his son had murdered. Several family members attended the sentencing.

"I am sorry for your loss as a result of what my son did," he said. "I cannot express how much I wish that I had known what was going on with him or what was going to happen. Because I absolutely would have done a lot of things differently."

In her statement, Jennifer Crumbley said she, her husband and her son, Ethan, were an average family.

"We weren't perfect but we loved our son and each other tremendously," Crumbley said. "This could be any parent up here in my shoes. Ethan could be your child, could be your grandchild, your niece, your nephew, your brother, your sister. Your child could make the fatal decision not just with a gun but a knife, a vehicle, intentionally or unintentionally."

The teenagers who lost their lives during the shooting rampage were Justin Shilling and Madisyn Baldwin, both 17, Tate Myre, 16, and 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana. Six other students and a teacher were injured.

When it was time for their families to speak, several members described how the murders still haunted them.

Nicole Beausoleil, whose daughter Madisyn Baldwin was shot at point blank range, told the Crumbleys buying their son a gun when he was already spiraling into despair made them just as responsible as the shooter.

"Not only did your son kill my daughter but you both did as well. The words 'involuntary' should not be a part of your offense. Everything you did that day, months prior and days after were voluntary acts (helping) your son to commit a murder. Not just one, but multiple," Beausoleil said.

A rare prosecution

The Crumbleys are believed to be the first parents of a mass school shooter to have been charged and convicted of such crimes. Many legal experts say it could set a precedent for charging parents with serious crimes because of actions taken by their child.

Their son, Ethan Crumbley, pleaded guilty to murder and previously was sentenced to life without parole for the school shooting he carried out when he was 15.

Prosecutors never claimed the parents knew about their son's plans to go on a killing spree at Michigan's Oxford High School. However, they argued the Crumbleys ignored signs their son was seriously troubled and bought him a powerful Sig Sauer 9mm handgun as an early Christmas present.

They never told counselors about the gun they gifted their child when they were called to a meeting at the school the day of the shooting, not even when they were shown drawings the teen made. The images featured a pistol resembling the Sig Sauer alongside a figure with bullet wounds and phrases like "blood everywhere" and "help me, the thoughts won't stop."

Instead, the Crumbleys left their son at school and returned to work. A few hours later, Ethan emerged from a school bathroom with the gun and began firing his first of 32 shots.

Prosecutors told the jury if the Crumbleys had taken a "tragically few steps," four Oxford students would likely still be alive.

They showed evidence that the murder weapon was never properly secured away from their troubled son.

In court, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald used the murder weapon to demonstrate how to use a cable lock to keep the gun from being fired.

The process took about 10 seconds.

A 'chilling' lack of remorse

The prosecution had asked for the Crumbleys to serve 10 to 15 years in prison, citing what they called a "chilling lack of remorse" on the part of both parents after the shooting.

Prosecutors noted that Jennifer Crumbley testified during her trial that "I've asked myself if I would've done anything differently. And I wouldn't have."

And they pointed to repeated profanity-laced threats James Crumbley made against Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald on jailhouse phone calls he knew were being recorded, as well as in an electronic message.

'Mistakes any parent could make'

James Crumbley's attorney countered that his client had not physically threatened the prosecutor, he merely "vented" his anger over what he saw as an unjust incarceration.

The Crumbleys said they, too, were victims of their son, who they claimed had "manipulated" them into the purchase of a gun they had no idea he would use to kill.

They argued they made "mistakes any parent could make," given the information they had.

Defense attorneys for the couple noted an Oxford High counselor determined Ethan could remain in school the day of the shooting because he did not seem to pose a danger to himself or anyone else.

The couple maintained they thought their son was a normal teenager simply depressed over the loss of his grandmother, a pet dog and a friend who had moved away.

In a pre-sentencing interview with state officials, Jennifer Crumbley said that with the benefit of hindsight, "There are so many things I would change if I could go back in time."

Defense claims extra prison time unnecessary

The Crumbleys had asked to be sentenced to time served.

Defense attorneys argued the parents had already spent more than two and a half years in prison locked in a cell for 23 hours a day, and that further prison time was not necessary because the Crumbleys were not a threat to the public.

Defense attorney Shannon Smith also said more time would not deter others from committing a similar offense because "there is no person who would want the events of Nov. 30, 2021, to repeat themselves."

Smith added that, far from being the uncaring, remorseless mother prosecutors had portrayed to the public and the media, Jennifer Crumbley was focused on her son and distraught over the devastation her son caused.

In a sentencing memo, Jennifer Crumbley's parents and others pleaded with the court for leniency. A young woman, who said she was 18 when she became Crumbley's cellmate for a year and a half, also wrote to the judge.

She said Crumbley had greeted her with a basket of snacks and served as a mother figure to her.

The woman also wrote that inmates screamed threats at Crumbley, who tearfully told them she was sorry and "wished she could change everything her son had done."

Though Judge Cheryl Matthews sentenced the Crumbleys to the stiffest penalty possible, she said that the sentences were not designed to send a message to other parents or prosecutors that they should hold families responsible for children's crimes.

"These convictions are not about poor parenting. These convictions confirm repeated acts, or lack of acts, that could have halted an oncoming runaway train. About repeatedly ignoring things that would make a reasonable person feel the hair on the back of their neck stand up," Matthews said.

Moments after they were sentenced, the Crumbleys began filling out paperwork in the courtroom for an appeal.

Their son, Ethan, who pleaded guilty in October 2022 to murder and terrorism charges, is also likely to appeal his sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

MLB | Father-son baseball play-by-play broadcasters Chip and Chris Caray cherish reunion in Oakland

father son trip quotes

OAKLAND, Calif. — Chip Caray vowed to do his best not to cry.

Not that anybody would blame the St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster if he did.

On Monday night in Oakland, Chip reunited with son Chris on the field before each headed up to the booth to handle play-by-play duties for their respective clubs. Chris is in his first season with the Athletics sharing duties with Jenny Cavnar, and this marked his fourth game.

“I’m the old guy now and I remember when I was 24 and I got my first chance to do this and my dad was in the other booth on the radio side in Atlanta,” said Chip, grandson of the late, longtime Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray and son of Skip Caray, who worked more than three decades as a voice of the Braves.

“And it’s very different having the torch being passed instead of being passed to you. I’m really excited and humbled and honored that Chris is here. He’s doing a great job already and I’m really excited about where he’s going to take this family business as we call it.”

The 24-year-old Chris and twin brother Stefan worked together in the booth for the Amarillo Sod Poodles the past two years calling games of the Diamondbacks’ Double-A affiliate. They gained valuable experience at that level and during time at the Arizona Fall League.

“Trying to separate ourselves while finding a sound while trying to be this cohesive unit in the booth in Amarillo the last two years, we had to find a way to separate ourselves and make ourselves sound different from each other,” Chris said. “Yes, we sound very similar but I didn’t want to sound just like him, I didn’t want to sound just like Skip, I didn’t want to sound just like my brother Stefan. And I wanted to be able to do the good things, take the really good things that he’s done and spin them in my own way. It’s gotten me here, and I’m so lucky.”

Chip’s wife and Chris’ mother, Susan, was at the Coliseum for the special moment Monday. As soon as Chris was hired by NBC Sports California in February, they looked at the schedule to see whether the Cardinals and A’s would play in interleague this year, and here they are in mid-April.

It worked out beautifully that Monday’s series opener marked Chris’ turn in the booth given Cavnar handled the first homestand and will take the bulk of the team’s road games.

“We had it circled but at the same time immediately we didn’t know what my schedule was going to be,” Chris said. “We had assumptions that they would do it especially being here at the Coliseum and I was told I would be doing most of the home games while Jenny would be doing games on the road but you just never know how it would have shaken out. I’m grateful and fortunate enough that they picked this series to be my fourth game. I can’t really even put it into words to tell you the truth.”

The proud father is thrilled they each embrace doing their jobs with a unique flair and style.

“It’s a personality-driven business. The biggest mistake he could make is to try to be Harry Caray or Skip Caray or, God forbid, Chip. He’s got to be himself, right?” Chip Caray said. “There’s certain things that come along with the DNA that are inescapable. I’m sure that he sounds a little bit like me and maybe he gets excited like I do during the calls, but ultimately he’s going to put his own stamp on it, which is how you have to do it.

“It frustrated me to no end when kids would send me tapes, ‘Hey, can you evaluate my tape’ and they’d come from the West Coast and they’re all trying to sound like Vin Scully. Don’t, just be the best version of you. And I’m really proud that he and his brother have done that.”

Chip Caray joked that the only thing wrong was seeing his son in A’s green.

“We’re flattered and honored,” he said. “It’s amazing that the family business has continued since 1945 and the fact that he’s 24. I was 24 when I got my start, too, and the fact that we’re able to do this game together in his first two weeks as a major league broadcaster is astounding and exciting. I’m going to try not to cry during the game. I hope I’m not crying after the game, because I want us to win.”

BREAKING: Judge admonishes Trump after he appears to speak during questioning of a prospective juror in his hush money trial

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' son accused of sex assault in lawsuit that also names music mogul as defendant

LOS ANGELES — Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is a subject of a federal sex trafficking investigation , has been named as a defendant in a new lawsuit that alleges his son sexually assaulted a woman while she was working on a yacht the music mogul had chartered for a trip at the end of 2022.

The allegation is the latest in a wave of lawsuits accusing Combs , 54, of sexual assault, sexual trafficking and engaging in other criminal activity. He has denied all the allegations, calling them sickening.

In the suit filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Grace O’Marcaigh alleges that Christian Combs, 26, sexually assaulted her in late December 2022 while she was working on a boat charter that had been “sold as a wholesome family excursion” but turned into a “hedonistic environment.”

The alleged assault happened just days before Sean Combs hosted a New Year’s Eve yacht party with a long list of celebrity guests .

Christian Combs is accused of sexual assault, sexual harassment and infliction of emotional distress in the lawsuit. Sean Combs is being sued for premises liability as the person who chartered the yacht and for aiding and abetting his son in the alleged assault.

A lawyer for the father and son called Thursday's suit "lewd and meritless" and said it was "filled with the same kind of manufactured lies and irrelevant facts we’ve come to expect" from O’Marcaigh's lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn.

The lawyer, Aaron Dyer, said his legal team plans on filing a motion to dismiss the suit.

“Like father, like son," Blackburn said Thursday night after the suit was filed. "It gives us no joy or pleasure in filing this suit against Christian Combs who has clearly adopted his father’s pattern and practice of depravity."

In the yacht studio

In her suit, O’Marcaigh alleges that Christian Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her. She included transcriptions of audio clips that she states are evidence of her denying his advances as he gropes her. The suit states that the clips were recorded by a producer in the studio.

O’Marcaigh, who was 25 at the time of the alleged assault, worked as a steward providing dinner and drink service on the yacht from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and witnessed partying and drug use between a “constant rotation of suspected sex workers” and celebrities, the suit states. She also alleges in the complaint that she suspected bottles of alcohol were laced with drugs because women began to fall over themselves, panic or pass out after just one drink.

Around Dec. 28, 2022, O’Marcaigh was informed that Christian Combs would be joining the party to record with music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones in the yacht’s makeshift studio, the suit states.

puff daddy diddy sean

Christian Combs had been staying on shore at a villa, but often joined his father in the evenings, according to the suit. The woman’s suit alleges that he arrived “heavily intoxicated” and that he paid an inappropriate amount of attention to her.

Christian then pressured O’Marcaigh to take shots of tequila that she believes he brought onboard, according to the suit.

After she took the shot, O’Marcaigh states in the lawsuit, Christian Combs became aggressive and insisted she drink more.

O’Marcaigh became fearful and began to feel the effect of the tequila, which she “quickly suspected” had been spiked, the suit states.

The situation “escalated” as Christian Combs groped O’Marcaigh’s legs, breast, anus and vagina, the suit states. The suit details audio recordings in which it states O’Marcaigh can be heard declining alcohol, saying she had to leave, and telling Christian Combs to stop touching her with what sounds like kissing noises in the background.

The audio was recorded by Jones, the producer who was in the studio during the alleged assault and who has alleged in his own lawsuit that he was required to record Sean Combs “constantly” and had hours of footage in which the music mogul and his staff allegedly engaged in criminal conduct.

NBC News has heard two clips of audio transcribed in the suit purportedly from the night of Dec. 28, 2022, but has not verified who was recorded.

“Excuse me, you don’t touch my legs like that. I’ll move my legs where I want to,” O’Marcaigh is heard saying in the recording detailed in the suit. “If I want to do this, then I will. You don’t touch my legs like that.”

“Listen, you and everybody in the crew,” Christian Combs allegedly replies.

“I can’t, I have to go down,” O’Marcaigh says. “I have to go down.”

Christian Combs then insists that O’Marcaigh stay with him, but she responds that she cannot unless he makes that request to a crew leader, the suit states, citing the audio recording.

O’Marcaigh answered this way because she knew “anyone of authority” who could approve the request would be asleep and Christian Combs would not be able to contact them, the suit states.

“Who can I talk to? I’m going to say I requested you right now,” Christian Combs said, according to the suit.

“Well, you can take your hand off my ass for the first thing,” O’Marcaigh responded.

O’Marcaigh then attempted to resume her duties and finish her shift once she was able to leave the studio, the suit states. Christian Combs allegedly found her a short time later and insisted she find him a place to sleep.

She directed him to the yacht cinema, which was used as an extra sleeping area, where he blocked her in, the suit states.

Christian Combs allegedly began to grope her and took off his clothes.

“His penis was erect, and he grabbed her arms and was trying to force PLAINTIFF to perform oral sex on him,” the suit states.

The suit includes photos of bruising on O’Marcaigh’s forearm and alleges it was caused when Christian Combs grabbed her.

O’Marcaigh fought him off until someone else walked in, according to the suit.

Since the alleged attack

The alleged assault had a deep impact on O’Marcaigh’s mental health as well as her professional and personal lives, the suit said. When O’Marcaigh complained to the yacht captain the next day, the suit alleges, the captain did not believe her and failed to investigate.

She alleges that the captain retaliated against her until she was terminated in May 2023.

Her mental health deteriorated, and the woman had anxiety and panic attacks as well as severe suicidal ideations, the suit said. O’Marcaigh alleges that the emotional strain affected her physical health and that she developed an eating disorder and seizures following the assault.

She is seeking unspecified damages.

"I am here to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves and I applaud Grace for being so brave to come forward with her truth," attorney Rodney S. Diggs said of his client. "Hopefully her story will inspire others to come forward."

Allegations and investigation

O’Marcaigh’s suit is the first to accuse Christian Combs of sexual assault. Since November, his father, Sean Combs, has been accused in lawsuits of sexual assault by four women, which he has repeatedly denied.

One of those suits has been settled , and the others have not been resolved.

Jones, a producer who worked for Sean Combs from September 2022 to November 2023, alleged the rapper sexually harassed him, pressured him to engage in sexual acts and forced him to procure sex workers. He said he witnessed Sean Combs giving drinks laced with drugs to people at parties.

An attorney for Combs said Jones’ “reckless name-dropping about events that are pure fiction and simply did not happen is nothing more than a transparent attempt to garner headlines.”

Federal agents walk at the entrance to a property belonging to Sean "Diddy" Combs

On March 25, agents with Homeland Security Investigations searched Sean Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami. A source familiar with the investigation told NBC News that a federal investigation began before this year and that authorities were aware of the layout of Combs’ properties before the raids.

During the searches last month, federal agents discovered guns and seized his phones as part of a warrant issued from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, law enforcement sources have said. Christian Combs was detained at his father’s Los Angeles home last month when Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant, but he was not arrested.

Investigators are also looking into allegations of statutory rape against Sean Combs, the source said.

NBC News previously reported that at least three women and one man have been interviewed by federal investigators in relation to allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault and the solicitation and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms.

Aaron Dyer, one of Combs’ attorneys, issued a statement following last month’s property searches and said that Combs “was never detained but spoke to and cooperated with authorities.” He described the search as an ambush, saying there’s been a rush to judgment based on “meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.”

“There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations,” Dyer said. “Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”

Diana Dasrath reported from Los Angeles and Doha Madani reported from New York.
