We’re all headed for Happyland.”

The moment they had finished writing those lyrics for the song Happyland , sitting in Gabriel Rhodes ‘ backyard last spring, Kimmie Rhodes mused, “You know, that it would be a great name for a band.”

Zoom forward from that day to October 30, 2023 when at Kimmie’s request, Gabriel assembled a stellar group of local veteran musicians to play her show billed as, Kimmie & Friends, a ten show series to raise funds and awareness for HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers , hosted by Joe Ables, owner of The Saxon Pub, Austin’s premier song-swap venue.

Gabriel rounded-up the volunteers to play the gig fairly effortlessly. Johnny Goudie (guitar, vocals) Harmoni Kelley (bass) John Chipman (drums) Louis Rhodes (piano, Gabriel’s son) had been co-writing songs and recording them together prolifically over the past couple of years at Rhodes Bumshoe Studio in south Austin. Of late many of those songs have found their way onto a soon-to-be-released album produced by Rhodes for Shawn Pander (guitar vocals) titled Forever and For Now and also Hypnotized , Kimmie’s up-coming album, the first single being slated for release on January 26.

The Saxon show was magical– the music, the harmonies, the songs, the fans, the joy­. When everyone ended the evening singing along to a brand-new song, Happyland, a band was born. Kimmie calls it a happy accident and likes to refer to it as “Austin’s new feel-good-pop-up band.”

The “why” of the band is found in the song lyrics. “Takes a little from you, takes a little from me. Everybody give a little and let’s all meet in the middle. Everybody come together, all try to do better, and we’ll be headed for Happyland. Believing that it’s what the world needs most right now the aim is to have fun playing uplifting, up-tempo songs, with lots of harmony vocals and even throw in the occasional all-time favorite sing-along cover song. They also plan to collaborate on new songs for future shows.

The castle stands on the foundations of the former Temple of Helios (the Sun). It also worked as the island’s administrative center in the Middle Ages.

From an architectural point of view, the huge palace has characteristic spherical towers and a magnificent arched gate. It has over 150 rooms with spectacular marble floors, sumptuous carpets, lavish furniture, and extraordinary Oriental decorative objects.

In modern times, the palaces functioned as a holiday residence for the King of Italy, Victor Emmanuel III, and the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. The first floor hosts the official rooms and the exclusive private quarters of the Grand Master. The impressive ballroom and the elegant Music room are two of the best places you don’t want to miss.

3. Acropolis Of Rhodes

It is also close to Rhodes Town; exploring the ancient Acropolis of Rhodes on Mount Smith is a good idea. The fantastic archaeological site dates back to Hellenistic times. Most of the public buildings were strategically built on precipitous terraces. This is why you will not find fortifications in this ancient Acropolis.

4. Kallithea Thermal Springs

Grab a taxi and head 9km outside of the city center to spend time relaxing at Kallithea Thermal Springs.

Built in 1928 by the Italians, these springs are crystal clear and a wonderful alternative to a beach day. Waters stay at about 25°C/77 °F, and many claim there are healing properties when soaking in them.

The entrance fee for adults is €5, and for children is €2.50.

5. Acropolis Of Lindos

Another fantastic town to visit in Rhodes is Lindos, which is interesting for its picturesque construction on a hillside and because it hosts another awesome archaeological site, the Acropolis of Lindos.

The excavation brought to light Dorian structures dating to the Hellenistic period and some areas that the Knights had previously restored.

The ancient town of Lindos lies about 45 km from Rhodes Town. Dating back to the tenth century BC, it was a major trading center with a strategic position halfway between Greece and the Middle East.

You can explore important ancient ruins, the imposing Doric Temple of Athena, the entrance gateways, Propylaea (the gateways) of the Sanctuary, and a more recent Roman Temple.

Another reason we believe that Rhodes is an excellent family destination is that there are many exciting places that appeal to kids and adults alike. The local aquarium is no exception. It is located in Rhodes’ Hydrobiological Station in Rhodes City and hosts a marine museum.

The building occupies a circular area with over 25 tanks sheltering fish and marine organisms typical of the Mediterranean Sea, such as sea turtles, seals, dolphins, crabs, and a few species of sharks. The center also has a particular area to treat and protect certain species, mostly turtles and seals.

7. Castle Of Monolithos

One of the most magnificent sites on the island, the castle is located on top of a massive rock overlooking the small village of Monolithos, about 70 km from the town of Rhodes.

The Venetian castle dates back to the last years of the 1400s, and although it is mainly in ruins, it is the perfect place to enjoy the spectacular views of the Aegean Sea and the beach underneath.

The Valley of the Butterflies, locally known as Petaloudes, is located near the village of Theologos. This is a stunning green valley and park about 27 km from Rhodes Town.

The natural reserve is a lush valley populated with a massive colony of butterflies during spring and autumn . The Pelekanos River crosses the valley with several bridges and endless waterfalls along its whole length.

Another important building worth the visit is Rhodes’ Great Hammam, also known as the Baths of Suleiman. The building is believed to date back to the fourteenth century, probably in 1558, when the Ottoman Turks occupied most of the islands in the Dodecanese. This is one of the several Turkish Baths that remain scattered around the Medieval Town of Rhodes.

The building is an impressive structure with stunning red-tiled cupolas, featuring a section devoted to the men’s baths and a more modern area for women added years later. Once inside, you will be surprised by the rich decorations, including marble floors, elegant fountains, and numerous domes.

10. Panagia Filerimos Monastery

Located in the village of Ialyssos, on the side of a hill, the monastery was also constructed by the Knights of Saint John in the Middle Ages.

The monastery is one of the best-preserved religious structures on the island and a beautiful example of Medieval architecture. It is located 10 km from Rhodes Town, and it’s made of stone in Gothic style. Not far from the monastery, it is possible to visit the remains of Ancient Ialyssos, one of the three most powerful city-states of Rhodes.

Archaeological Museum Of Rhodes

To learn more about the island’s history, the best thing to do once you’ve explored the main archaeological sites is to devote a couple of hours to the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes in the Old Town.

One of the reasons for the visit is the setting. The museum is set in the former Hospital of the Kings, one of the most important Medieval buildings on the island, with a gorgeous interior courtyard and well-preserved stone walls and columns.

The museum’s exhibits include a collection from Hellenistic to Early Christian times. Objects include vases, figurines, mosaic floors, and funerary slabs of the Knights.

Jewish Museum

Witness the different cultures and communities that have, since ancient times, been part of the society of Rhodes at the Jewish Museum of Rhodes. During the Second World War, the local Jewish community was devastated and followed the same sad fate as many other Jewish communities that populated the most important Greek Islands . You can visit the museum in the Old Town Synagogue Kahal Shalom.

The exhibits include ceremonial dresses and religious objects, old marriage contracts, theological books, and a curious Turkish travel document from 1910. It is a manuscript by the Sultan that permits a young local boy to leave the island with his family.

Rhodes Toy Museum

A fantastic exhibition that attracts kids and parents, the Rhodes Toy Museum is close to the village of Archipoli. It is known for its collection of toys, all made in Greece and built between 1930 and 1990.

An area in the museum is entirely devoted to Lego and Playmobil, while there are also interactive toys and handicrafts. The most important pieces include tin toys , board games, and functioning coin-operated arcade machines that visitors can enjoy and play with. The gift shop sells original souvenirs , and the outside area also features a kids’ playground.

One more original and fascinating place to see in the Rhodes museum is in Patsida, a village about 5 km from Rhodes Town. The Museum of Honey and the Natural History of the Bee is an original place to visit that thoroughly explains and shows the process of beekeeping and honey production.

This gorgeous shore is made of golden sand and pebbles, there are sunbeds for rent, and diving is available from the rock at one end of the beach.

Ladiko Beach (Anthony Quinn Beach)

This family-friendly and well-organized beach is home to a great diving club featuring small pebbles, located about 20 km from Rhodes Town.

There is a small cove just meters from the beach where the famous actor Antony Quinn used to swim when filming on the island. The beach is close to Faliraki Beach, among the most popular beaches.

This tour was contracted to smaller day tours. The overall tour company was very responsive and set daily updates for where to meet and when and all transportation was covered. Accommodation was great, although it would have been nice to stay in the old town walls of Antalya. The cruise, while highly organised, was probably a bit too big and very rushed. All your guides had impeccable knowledge of their field and were very friendly. Sometimes the daily itinerary didn’t quite match up to the order listed but all sights were still seen. There were some extra ticket costs not mentioned in the itinerary - usually a few extra hundred lira. Some excursions also had visits to trade centers - carpets, jewelers, leather works, ceramics - and while interesting there often felt pressure to buy.

WWE WrestleMania 40 -- Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes: Night 2 card, rumors, matches, start time, location, date

This year's wrestlemania is halfway home after an epic first night of action in philadelphia.

We have arrived to the biggest wrestling event of the year. WrestleMania 40 is set for Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday and this year's event truly has some old-school heat to it.

The biggest match of the weekend sees WWE universal champion Roman Reigns rematch Cody Rhodes in the main event of Night 2 as Rhodes looks to "finish the story" after coming up short a year ago. Reigns will be at a clear advantage in the match after he and The Rock defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, clearing the way for the match to be under "Bloodline Rules." That means anything goes, with much expectation on The Rock, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso trying to interfere and keep the title with the "Tribal Chief."

Rollins, meanwhile, has his own problems to deal with as the world heavyweight champion will put his title on the line against a red-hot Drew McIntyre. Plus, CM Punk, who made his return at the Royal Rumble only to suffer an injury, will be on the commentary for the match and likely to play a factor. Plus, the WWE women's championship is on the line when Iyo Sky takes on Bayley. Sky and her Damage CTRL cohorts kicked Bayley out of the group she helped form and now Bayley looks to exact her revenge. The final title match on Sunday sees United States champion Logan Paul forced to defend his title against two opponents when he takes on Randy Orton and Kevin Owens.

Plus, there's always a surprise or two along the way where legends return or celebrities make an appearance.

Let's take a look at the full WrestleMania 40 card, which streams live on Peacock on April 7 beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Note: these are not the official match order for each night, simply a list of which matches will take place on each day.

2024 WWE WrestleMania 40 Night 2 matches

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship -- Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes:  For the second consecutive year, it's Reigns vs. Rhodes at WrestleMania. After winning the Royal Rumble again, Rhodes made it clear he was coming for Reigns to "finish the story." That plan was sidelined when Rhodes stepped aside and handed the Reigns match over to The Rock. Fan backlash to the idea of Rhodes' two-year-long story was strong and it appears that pushed WWE to pivot back to Rhodes getting his match with Reigns. At the WrestleMania 40 kickoff, Reigns and Rock celebrated their upcoming match, with Rock suddenly on good terms with Reigns. Rhodes interrupted, said he got to make the decision, not Reigns, and said he was coming after the Tribal Chief. The Rock later announced Rhodes would never again receive an undisputed WWE universal title shot if he lost to Reigns.

WWE Women's Championship -- Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bayley:  Bayley was the winner of this year's women's Royal Rumble. Now, she faces one of her former Damage CTRL teammates in Sky. Despite creating Damage CTRL, Bayley had been on the outs with the group for quite some time. While Bayley hinted at challenging Rhea Ripley for the women's world title, Nia Jax stepped in and scared her off, leading to Bayley challenging Sky and fighting off all of Damage CTRL.

United States Championship -- Logan Paul (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens: Paul is going to have his hands full. The U.S. champion shunned SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis for failing to find him a WrestleMania opponent, so Aldis found him two. Paul will defend his title in a triple-threat match against Orton and Owens. The social media influencer has long had issues with Owens. Paul got on Orton's bad side after costing him a world title opportunity at WrestleMania by laying him out with brass knuckles at the Elimination Chamber.

LA Knight vs. AJ Styles: The rivalry between Knight and Styles has been simmering ever since Styles returned to action in December. Styles took issue with Knight's rise to stardom, which coincided with Styles' hiatus at the hands of The Bloodline. Styles accused Knight of stepping over his cold body and taking everything that he was entitled to. Styles cost Knight a world heavyweight title match at the Elimination Chamber. Knight has been on a manhunt ever since. Knight laid out the challenge to Styles on the March 15 episode of SmackDown. Styles accepted with a steel chair to the back.

The Final Testament (Karrion Kross & Authors of Pain) vs. Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) (Philadelphia Street Fight): The two factions have been brawling for months. The Final Testament cost Street Profits a spot in the undisputed tag team title six-pack ladder match at WrestleMania. Kross berated Lashley for letting his pride get in the way of his pupils' success and boasted about crushing Street Profits' WrestleMania dreams. WWE announced a Philadelphia Street Fight between the two factions, an appropriate way to end their long-running feud.

World Heavyweight Championship -- Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre:  McIntyre has been on fire of late, taking issue with anyone and everyone who questions his methods. Those methods have involved increasingly opportunistic behavior as he looks to become a world champion once again. McIntyre took advantage of yet another situation when an already-eliminated Logan Paul knocked out Randy Orton with brass knuckles in the Elimination Chamber, allowing McIntyre to score the pin and punch his ticket to a match with Rollins at WrestleMania.
