Logie awards 2023: Crazy Fun Park beats Bluey, Sonia Kruger takes gold and Tony Armstrong’s back-to-back win
Host Sam Pang cracks joke at celebrities including Sam Neill, Karl Stefanovic and Jonathan LaPaglia – and takes a shot at broadcaster Channel Seven

Little-known ABC show Crazy Fun Park beat out the enormously popular animation series Bluey for the outstanding children’s program and Channel Seven presenter Sonia Kruger took home the top prize at the Logie awards.
Crazy Fun Park’s win surprised even its creator, Nicholas Verso. He ascended the stage to accept the gong and immediately apologised for besting the competition. “I know everyone comes up and goes, ‘We didn’t think we were going to win’ but seriously, we were up against Bluey,” he said.
This year’s ceremony was the first in 12 years to have a solo host, with Have You Been Paying Attention? and The Front Bar’s Sam Pang taking on MC duties. Pang roasted a slew of celebrities including Sam Neill, Andy Lee, Karl Stefanovic, Jonathan LaPaglia and David Koch.
He also took a shot at Logies broadcaster Channel Seven. “I would also like to acknowledge a win for diversity tonight. I am the first host in the history of the Logies to be half-and-half – Channel Seven and half Channel 10. Let’s be honest, it’s just great to have an Asian on Channel Seven who isn’t trying to smuggle live birds through border security.”
The ABC’s Tony Armstrong backed up last year’s popular new talent win with a gong for popular presenter for A Dog’s World. Armstrong quipped on stage: “I told Justin [Stevens], he’s the big boss, that on the off-chance if I won this, there would be a renegotiation. So, mate, my agents are calling!”
Kruger won the Gold Logie for hosting three Channel Seven shows: Dancing with the Stars, Big Brother and The Voice. Kruger is the first woman to win a Gold Logie since Carrie Bickmore in 2015.
Sign up for the fun stuff with our rundown of must-reads, pop culture and tips for the weekend, every Saturday morning
Kruger broke out in the 1992 film Strictly Ballroom as Tina Sparkles and has been a mainstay on Australian TV since. She had long-running stints across all three commercial networks on shows including Mornings. She returned to Channel Seven in 2019 as one of its main TV personalities.
However her career has not been without controversy. In 2016, Kruger said on Today she was in favour of banning Muslims from entering Australia. In 2019 the New South Wales civil and administrative tribunal ruled Kruger had made “vilifying” remarks against Muslims but did not engage in “racial vilification”.

Singer Amy Shark won the popular new talent category over a throng of newcomers including Heartbreak High stars Chloe Hayden and Ayesha Madon and RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under’s Kween Kong. Shark, an established recording artist, qualified for the category because she was new to TV as a judge on Australian Idol.
In the industry-voted categories, Colin from Accounts made it a trifecta, winning for outstanding comedy series, while stars and creators Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall picked up outstanding actress and actor respectively.
Crime series The Twelve won outstanding drama, with star Brooke Satchwell picking up outstanding supporting actress and Sam Neill taking home the popular actor gongs.
Colin from Accounts and The Twelve propelled Foxtel/Binge to the top of the network tally, with seven Logies, including another for Gogglebox which is shared with Channel 10.
Heartbreak High’s Thomas Weatherall won the Logie for outstanding supporting actor. Other winners in the outstanding categories were Foreign Correspondent, the State of Origin broadcast, The Cheap Seats and The Australia Wars.
In the public-voted popular categories, Home and Away won its ninth award for most popular drama while Have You Been Paying Attention? won popular comedy for the fourth consecutive time. Other winners in the popular categories included Travel Guides, Australian Story and actor Kitty Flanagan for Fisk.
In the reality TV categories, Survivor: Heroes vs Villains picked up the outstanding award while MasterChef Australia won the popular choice. MasterChef’s executive producer Marty Benson dedicated the award to the late chef and judge Jock Zonfrillo .
The Hall of Fame inductee was Brian Walsh , the TV industry legend who died suddenly in March at the age of 68. He was remembered for nurturing talent and for his contributions to shows including Neighbours, Wentworth and Vietnam. Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Jason Donovan were among those who paid tribute to the late Foxtel executive.

The TV WEEK Logie Award winners from 2023 divulge all
Unfortunately, televisions ultimate night of nights, the TV WEEK Logie Awards have come to an end for 2023.
Following the nominees incredible win, we sat down for a chat where they told TV WEEK all.
Continue scrolling to see what all the winners had to say.
The Chase Australia’s
Which chaser goes hardest on the dance floor?
The Chase Australia’s Chasers don’t hesitate when asked who the biggest party animal among them is. Matt “Goliath” Parkinson, Brydon “The Shark” Coverdale, Cheryl “The Tiger Mum” Toh and Mara “The Smiling Assassin” Lejins all jump in with “Issa!”
“No, I reckon Mara!” Issa “The Supernerd” Schultz, 39, insists.
Having wowed audiences on Dancing With The Stars , Issa is keen for other Chasers to follow suit.
“Everybody keeps pointing at me,” Matt, 59, says, “but really, they haven’t seen me dance.”
When TV WEEK chatted to Issa on the red carpet, he was hoping he wouldn’t make another faux pas on the night, having made two already.
“I stepped on Sophie Monk’s dress – and I failed to recognise Sam Armytage, even though we’ve worked together, so I want nothing else to go wrong!” he says.
Travel Guides
Travel Guides has landed a second logie – but where to next?
Having taken out their second win in a row for Most Popular Lifestyle Program, the Travel Guides team agree the award will certainly be used as a bargaining tool when they start teeing up locations to visit next season.
“I’ve been waiting to go to the Maldives for like, eight years, so this is my chance!” the Fren family’s Victoria tells TV WEEK .
Meanwhile, Teng, who makes up “The Boys” with mates Kev and Dorian, seems to have already started compiling a list of demands.
“I want five-star dinners and massages in bed,” he teases.
Despite having ticked off “50-odd countries”, the lads insist there are many more places they’d love to go.
“Mount Everest Base Camp would be so fun,” Kev says, while Dorian has Egypt top of his bucket list.
“I’ve got to see those Pyramids,” he declares.
For Fren family patriarch Mark, the best thing that’s stemmed from Travel Guides is that it brings people together.
“Families sit down and watch the show together and that’s really quite humbling,” he says. “That’s the part we love the most – that we can bring so much enjoyment to other people’s lives… while being idiots.”
Tony Armstrong
There’s plenty more to come from two-time Logie winner Tony Armstrong
Standing in the TV WEEK media room after winning the second Logie in his career, Tony Armstrong was in disbelief. He’d just beaten some of Australia’s best-known personalities to win the Bert Newton Award For Most Popular Presenter.
“Everyone else [the other nominees] is an ornament of Australian TV; I’ve grown up watching them,” Tony, 33, tells TV WEEK . “I’m gobsmacked and thankful people have got around us [him and the ABC]. This is theirs too.”
Despite his recognition for documentary series A Dog’s World With Tony Armstrong , the footballer-turned-host believes opportunities come from hard work and “being deliberate about what you do”.
As for the opportunities he’d like to pursue in the future, Tony is keeping quiet for now. But some will likely see him shaking up his role as sports presenter on the ABC’s News Breakfast – perhaps even acting.
“Hopefully, I start to do some stuff that’s not just behind the news desk,” he says. “But [as for acting], I promise I’ll tell you as soon as I’m allowed!”
Thomas Weatherall
Thomas Weatherall pays tribute to his long-time partner
Walking the Logies red carpet lined with screaming fans left Heartbreak High’s Thomas Weatherall “reeling”.
“I’m borderlining somewhere between a euphoric episode and a heart attack,” Thomas admits to TV WEEK .
Luckily, the 22-year-old has a supportive partner – Stevie, who he thanked in his acceptance speech for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor.
“We met at drama school,” Thomas says. “She helps get me through these days at work. It’s great to come home to her and have a very normal civilian life outside of it.”
Australian Idol judge Amy Shark steals the show
Indie-pop singer-songwriter Amy Shark confesses she was out of her comfort zone at the Logies, saying that although she feels confident when she’s performing on stage, media interviews make her nervous.
“It’s the first time at the Logies, my first time performing my new single [“Can I Shower At Yours?”], my first time being nominated,” Amy, 37, tells TV WEEK. “It’s been a lot – I’ll probably cry any minute now.”
Despite her worries, Amy was a hit, her debut as a judge on the 2023 reboot of Australian Idol – alongside Harry Connick Jnr, Meghan Trainor and Kyle Sandilands – winning her a legion of fans and the Logie for Most Popular New Talent.
MasterChef team pay an emotional tribute to the late Jock Zonfrillo
MasterChef Australia’s Logie win for Most Popular Reality Program at this year’s awards was both happy and poignant without former co-host Jock Zonfrillo there to celebrate with them. The Scottish-born chef and judge died in April aged 46 on the eve of the show’s 2023 season.
“I wish he could be here with us – I know he’d be delighted that we won,” MasterChef Australia executive producer Marty Benson tells TV WEEK .
Jock was famously the life of the party, so the cast agree he would have got up to mischief on Logies night.
“He would get Andy [co-host Andy Allen] out for a meal, then steal his Logie and not give it back,” Marty says.
“He had a track record for nicking trophies,” co-host Melissa Leong adds with a laugh. “We did take an AACTA [Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts] award out to dinner once.”
How MasterChef will deal with the late star’s sad absence in seasons to come is yet to be determined.
“Jock was such a big character and a huge part of the MasterChef story,” Brent Draper, who won the 2023 season of the reality favourite, says. “I’m not too sure what’s going to happen next year.”
The Cheap Seats
Best Seats in the house
In true The Cheap Seats fashion, Tim McDonald coudn’t resist taking a cheeky dig at his Kiwi co-host Melanie Bracewell after accepting the Most Outstanding Entertainment Program Logie alongside the show’s entertainment presenter, Melissa Tracina.
“I can’t help but note that Mel takes one week off the show and we win a Logie,” Tim, 30, says with a laugh. “We’ll take on that feedback.”
He admits it feels “amazing” that the show, which debuted only in 2021, has been recognised by their peers in the industry.
“We just make the show we enjoy and we’re so lucky that some other people enjoy watching it as well,” Tim adds.
The Truth behind HYBPA? and its winning ways
It’s clear Australia really has been paying attention to Network 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention?, as the irreverent panel game show again took home the award for Most Popular Comedy Program.
“We’re excited,” host Tom Gleisner, 60, tells TV WEEK of the win, the show’s seventh Logie since 2017. “It’s great that people still love the show and vote for us.”
When asked why he thinks fans love the show so much, Tom modestly attributes it to the Monday night timeslot – “When the weekend is behind us, it’s nice to just have something to put a smile on your face and look forward to” – and its hilarious mix of panellists.
However, after a moment of reflection, Tom knows it’s the genuine kinship they all share that makes Have You Been Paying Attention? magic TV.
“It’s just me and five contestants and they’re chosen not only because they’re very funny and quick, but we just genuinely like each other,” he says.
“We might have a bit of fun stirring each other, but it’s a genuine affection in the room. And I think that comes across.”

The Logies Are Back For 2023 — Here’s Everything You Need To Know
Arguably the biggest night in Australian television each year, the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards are confirmed to return for 2023.
The night of nights will this year be held in Sydney for the first time in over 30 years, with Australian celebs of every television genre expected to flock to the red carpet at The Star.
The coveted awards will cover categories from Most Popular Presenter to Most Outstanding Children’s Program, and just about everything in between.
As well as celebrating Australia’s best small-screen talent, the Logies have also become synonymous with some pretty spectacular red carpet appearances , with our celebs not afraid to pull out all the fashionable stops for the star-studded occasion.
And while we’ll still have to wait a little while longer to see what our favourite celebs don on this year’s carpet, here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 2023 TV Week Logie Awards, including how to vote.
Where To Watch The 2023 Logie Awards
This year, the Logies will be broadcast by Seven Network, on Sunday July 30, 2023.
Exact details of the broadcast are yet to be released, but we expect the red carpet to kick off at around 4pm.
Who Will Host The 2023 Logies?
The Logies hasn’t had an official host to lead the show in 11 years – but this year that will change.
Comedian Sam Pang has been appointed as host of this year’s proceedings, telling News.com.au , “I feel very lucky to be a part of this industry and can’t wait for July 30 in Sydney to celebrate Australian television on its night of nights and guide viewers at home through the entire four hour broadcast.”
“It’s a huge honour to be asked to host the Logies and while it will be weird not having a buzzer or beer in front of me, hopefully I’m up to the challenge,” the Have You Been Paying Attention? star added.
Who Is Nominated For The Gold Logie?
The Gold Logie is the most prestigious category of the night, awarded to the Most Popular Personality on Australian Television. Last year, it was taken home by comedian and host of Lego Masters , Hamish Blake , marking his second time being awarded the top honour.
This year, Hamish is nominated again, alongside Julia Morris, Leigh Sales, Mark Coles Smith, Osher Günsberg , Shaun Micallef, and Sonia Kruger .
How To Vote For The Logies
You can have your say in all of the ‘Most Popular’ categories, including the coveted Gold Logie.
The public are able to cast their vote from 9am on Monday, June 19, with voting closing at 7:30pm on Sunday, July 30.
Voting for the Gold Logie will remain open until 10:30pm on Sunday, July 30.

Here are all the BIG Winners from Reality TV at the 2022 Logie Awards
Did your favourite win.
It was Australian TV’s night of nights and Lego Masters , MasterChef Australia and our favourite dad, Hamish Blake , took out the top reality TV awards for the night at the 2022 Logie Awards.
On June 19, stars headed to The Star on the Gold Coast to celebrate the last two years (thanks COVID), with Hamish taking out the coveted Gold Logie for the second time.
During his speech, Hamish quipped that it was his fourth Logie win, given that the 2020 and 2021 awards were missed, on top of his Gold win in 2012 followed by a silver Logie for the Most Popular Presenter in 2022.
“My beautiful wife, this is — you don’t get to stand up here unless you have amazing people behind you. You’re the most amazing of people,” the TV host said, thanking Zoë Foster Blake before giving a “shout out” to his children Sonny and Rudy.
“You stole my look for tonight,” he said of Zoe. “I had to quickly find this [outfit]. Apart from that, I think you do it better anyway. Thank you, honey. And I would also like to thank you know, a little shout out to our kids.
“My kids are the favourite of all kids. They can’t be here. They got last-minute fake IDs and gone clubbing. But I know they will watch this tomorrow when I make them on YouTube.”
“So, to my kids, winning an award is nice. But the greatest prize is to be your dad. You’re the most important.” Aww!
Then, always self-deprecating, Hamish blamed the win on “donkey voting” but we all know it’s because he is a dead-set Aussie legend!
Lego Masters , Gogglebox Australia and MasterChef Australia Win Big at the 2022 Logie Awards
MasterChef Australia took out the award for Best Reality program, while Gogglebox Australia took out a gong for Most Popular Light Entertainment Program.
As always, the Goggleboxers had the BEST response ever with Matty Fahd and Sarah Marie Fahd (of Matty, Sarah and Jad ) celebrating at home with their dog, Bane.
