As Earnhardt Jr. eluded to, the CARS Tour will visit the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway twice in 2024, first in mid-May, and again in mid-October. The Pro Late Model division will kick off NASCAR’s All-Star week on Tuesday, May 14, and the Late Model Stock Cars will headline racing action on Wednesday, May 15.
The zMAX CARS Tour will return to North Wilkesboro on Saturday, October 19 for the season finale where the champions for both divisions will be crowned.
The zMAX CARS Tour will also return to Rougemont, North Carolina’s Orange County Speedway on Saturday, April 20 following a year away from the schedule. Orange County Speedway had been on the calendar every year since the CARS Tour’s inception in 2015 until 2020. It returned to the calendar in 2021 as the host of that year’s Old North State Nationals, which was won by Josh Berry.

Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour announces expanded 2023 schedule for LMSC, PLM Tour
The largest schedule in the history of the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour was unveiled to competitors shortly before the start of the season-ending North-South Shootout.
A total of 19 race weekends comprises the 2023 season for the series. Of these events, a record 16 races will be contested for the CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour championship, while the Pro Late Model Tour will have 13 dates in their second season.
The 2023 schedule features the return of many tracks that were not a part of the CARS Tour calendar in 2022, starting with the season-opening race at Southern National Motorsports Park. The facility has not hosted the CARS Tour since 2020 and will welcome both divisions on March 11.
Other tracks returning to the CARS Tour schedule in 2023 are Florence Motor Speedway, Dillon Motor Speedway and Wake County Speedway. Florence and Wake County will each hold separate weekends for the LMSC and PLM Tour, while Dillon will only hold a PLM Tour event in April.
North Wilkesboro Speedway makes it grand return to the CARS Tour schedule following a successful debut in 2021 that featured NASCAR Hall-of-Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. Instead of being run in August, the North Wilkesboro date is now part of NASCAR’s All-Star week at the facility and will see both CARS Tour divisions run their features on Wednesday.
All-Star week at North Wilkesboro will not be the only time the CARS Tour runs an event on a weeknight. Caraway Speedway is set to host a doubleheader for the LMSC and PLM Tour on Wednesday, June 28, with the track’s prestigious North-South Shootout once again serving as the season finale for the CARS Tour in November.
The other crown jewel races for the CARS Tour are also returning for 2023. The Throwback 276 will maintain its normal place at Hickory Motor Speedway’s second date, while the $30,000-to-win Old North State Nationals will move from Caraway to a different location that will be announced later.
Additional details about the 2023 CARS Tour schedule are forthcoming. Below is the full schedule for both CARS Tour divisions:
- March 11- Southern National Motorsports Park (LMSC/PLM)
- March 25- Florence Motor Speedway (LMSC)
- April 15- Dillon Motor Speedway (PLM)
- April 22- Hickory Motor Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- May 5- Ace Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- May 17- North Wilkesboro Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- May 27- Tri-County Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- June 3- Langley Speedway (LMSC)
- June 17- Dominion Raceway (LMSC)
- June 28- Caraway Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- July 8- Wake County Speedway (PLM)
- July 29- Hickory Motor Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- Aug. 11- Ace Speedway (LMSC)
- Aug. 26- Wake County Speedway (LMSC)
- Sept. 9- Goodyear All American Speedway (LMSC)
- Sept. 23- Florence Motor Speedway (PLM)
- Oct. 7- South Boston Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- Oct. 21- Tri-County Motor Speedway (LMSC/PLM)
- Nov. 4- Caraway Speedway (LMSC/PLM)

Carson kvapil opens 2024 cars tour late model stock season with southern national win, share this article.
The 2024 zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock season started on Sunday at Southern National Motorsports Park with a familiar face in victory lane.
The JR Motorsports driver took the lead on lap 91 of the 125-lap race and held off Connor Hall over a series of late restarts to take the checkered flag. With the win, Kvapil now has 10 career CARS Tour Late Model Stock wins, and 15 total wins under the CARS Tour banner.
It may not be a surprise to see Kvapil, a two-time series champion , on the top step of the podium in the CARS Tour, but Sunday’s victory was anything but a foregone conclusion. The late cautions gave several opportunities for the likes of Hall, Deac McCaskill and Kaden Honeycutt a chance to challenge for the win.
“I was pretty nervous, honestly,” said Kvapil in victory lane. “Connor [Hall]’s a pretty good racer, obviously, and he knows what he’s doing. Having him right on my bumper on the last restart was something I was not looking forward to. I’ve raced with him in the past and he can get a little hairy sometimes.
“Fortunately, we really had just a good Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet. We had a really good piece, and that made my life a little easier there.”
Hall readily admitted he was ready to force the issue to challenge Kvapil for the win on Sunday.
“In this series, passing at the end of the races are so tough. As bad as it sounds, I pretty much had one game plan, and that was to try to get him off the bottom. I gave him a pretty fair shot, I don’t think it was too egregious. Anything more, and it would have put both of us at risk.
“We were a couple of car-lengths behind him at the IceBreaker and a little closer here. Maybe we’ll get him in the next one.”
Deac McCaskill, a four-time track champion at Southern National and a former CARS Tour champion in his own right, is one of just three drivers ahead of Kvapil on the Late Model Stock win list. His 11 wins tie him with Bobby McCarty for second in the Late Model Stock Tour record books, behind Josh Berry (22).
As fate would have it, McCaskill is paired up with McCarty and R&S Race Cars for the 2024 season, and McCaskill started his season with a third-place finish on home turf.

“This thing needed a little more drive off the corner,” said McCaskill. “We were just talking about this tire and what we need to do for Jacksonville. We’re already thinking ahead. It was a good run for us.
“This is so much fun, man. The main reason I joined this team was to be more consistent and more competitive. Hopefully, this is a sign of great things to come.”
There are plenty of drivers who will be in contention for the CARS Tour Late Model Stock championship in 2024, but McCaskill doesn’t want anyone counting him out even if he is the “old guy” competing against some of the biggest rising stars in racing.
“I want to be the oldest guy to win a championship. That’s my goal. Everybody’s talking about these young kids, but this old guy’s still got it. I’m hooked up with a great team. I’ve got some awesome teammates.
“Bobby McCarty is teaching me so much. I’ve got more experience than he does, but he’s teaching me so much behind the wheel. It’s so much fun working with him and working with Logan [Clark] as well.”
Kvapil, meanwhile, could be on the outside looking in for that championship battle. That is due in part to knowing he will miss at least one CARS Tour race this season, on April 6 at Hickory Motor Speedway. That day, Kvapil will be making his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut with JR Motorsports at Martinsville Speedway.
Winning a title while missing a race wouldn’t be unprecedented. In fact, Kvapil did so during his 2022 championship run. However, he believes the level of competition in the series this year will make that task much more difficult.
“You never know how it could go, right? We won the 2022 championship, we missed one race and were still able to win owners and drivers. Hopes are up, but I see the realism of it.
“Brenden [Queen], Connor, all these guys I’m racing with are A-class drivers and really good teams. It’d be cool to [win the championship], but it’d be tough.”
Chase Burrow finished fourth, with Kaden Honeycutt rounding out the top five.
Brent Crews took the lead on lap eight from pole-sitter Chad McCumbee, and led until a lap 91 restart when Kvapil assumed the top spot. Crews finished sixth in his No. 29 entry. Mini Tyrrell, Clay Jones, Treyten Lapcevich and Bobby McCarty completed the top-10 finishers.

Hall of Fame driver and two-time Daytona 500 champion headlines entry list for biggest race in speedway history
- April 8, 2024
JACKSONVILLE, NC – NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will compete at New River All American Speedway for the first time in Saturday night’s National Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram 250.
Earnhardt, more commonly known by his nickname “Dale Jr.,” will drive the iconic no. 3 made famous by his father, the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr., in a zMAX CARS Tour entry sponsored by Bass Pro Shops. Saturday’s race marks the third time the 2021 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee has competed in the zMAX CARS Tour presented by Soundgear, a series he co-owns along with Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, and Justin Marks.
“I’m a huge fan of the CARS Tour and local short-track racing,” Earnhardt said. “The competition, the tracks, and the drivers are some of the best around. These regional series are vital to the quality of racing you see at the top level – it’s the heartbeat of motorsports in North America.”
During his time as a full-time competitor on the NASCAR circuit, the third-generation driver won 26 races in the Cup Series – including the Daytona 500 in 2004 and 2014, as well as two Xfinity Series championships (1998, 1999). He won the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Most Popular Driver Award 15 times (2003-2017) during his storied career.

Earnhardt retired from racing full-time at the conclusion of the 2017 season and began his career in broadcasting. Now, he hosts the Dale Jr Download podcast on Dirty Mo Media and owns JR Motorsports, fielding cars in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and zMAX CARS Tour.
In recent years, Earnhardt has competed in a variety of events in a Late Model Stock Car as well as in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Along with his two starts in the CARS Tour, Earnhardt has also competed in a handful of races at Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina – one of the tracks he cut his teeth on early in his career.
The zMAX CARS Tour presented by Soundgear is the headline act of New River All American Speedway’s opening weekend. The Grand National Super Series will also be in action along with Legend Cars, and Bandoleros. The green flag will fly at 7:00 pm. Tickets, schedules, and other information about the event can be found at newriverspeedway.com/carstour. Along with Saturday’s race, the Ronnie Hetu Memorial will be held on Friday night at 8:00 pm.
