asian tour q school schedule

The Asian Tour Qualifying School will return after a break of nearly two years, giving players from all over the world the opportunity to secure playing privileges for the Asian Tour’s 2023 season.

The Asian Tour has seen a recent resurgence with several new highly lucrative tournaments added to its tournament schedule. However, the playing membership has not seen a reshuffle since the 2020 season with members who secured playing rights that season retaining their status through the end of the 2022 season. The Qualifying School was not staged in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Final Qualifying Stage, which will see the top-35 finishers earn Asian Tour cards, will take place at Lakeview Resort & Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand, from January 18-22; 2023. This will be preceded by five First Stage Qualifying events, including a first in the United States.

The United States stage will take place at Oakcreek Country Club in Arizona on November 15-18, 2022, and will mark the first time the Asian Tour has visited the country.

The four other first stages will all be held in Thailand - at Blue Canyon Country Club’s Canyon Course in Phuket (December 7-10); Blue Canyon’s Lakes Course (January 4-7, 2023); Thana City Country Club in Bangkok (January 11-14, 2023); and Springfield Country Club in Hua Hin (January 11-14).

Entries into the First Qualifying Stage will be on a first come first served basis, with the top-placed finishers progressing to the Final Stage.

The Final Qualifying Stage will be played over five rounds. The top 140 (and ties) after 36 holes will progress to rounds three and four, followed by another cut to the top 70 players (and ties) after 72 holes. The top 35 players after 90 holes will be ranked accordingly for the 2023 season.

“The Asian Tour Qualifying School is the gateway to the Asian Tour and a critical component of our platform," said Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner and CEO, Asian Tour:

“The fact that we are able to hold the Qualifying School once again after a lengthy break is a strong indicator that the Asian Tour is fully back on track and well and truly in position to follow through with the most exciting period in our history.  The Asian Tour is committed to providing a multi-tier platform for professional golfers, with the Qualifying School being an integral part of this,” he added.

The asian tour qualifying school will return after a break of nearly two years, giving players from all over the world the opportunity to secure much sought-after playing privileges for the asian tour’s 2023 season..

The Asian Tour has seen a recent resurgence with several new highly lucrative tournaments added to its tournament schedule. However, the playing membership has not seen a reshuffle since the 2020 season with members who secured playing rights from that season retaining their status through the end of the 2022 season.

The Qualifying School was not staged in 2021 and 2022 because of disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The last version of the Asian Tour Qualifying School, held in Thailand in 2020, saw Zimbabwean Benjamin Follett-Smith top the class. Korea’s Bio Kim and Taehoon Ok, both winners on Tour this season, as well as South African standout Ian Snyman, also came through the Qualifying School that year.

The Final Qualifying Stage, which will see the top-35 finishers earn their coveted Tour cards, will take place at Lakeview Resort & Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand, from January 18-22; while that will be preceded by five First Stage Qualifying events, including a first in the United States, which will signal the start of Qualifying School.

“The fact that we are able to hold the Qualifying School once again after a lengthy break is a strong indicator that the Asian Tour is fully back on track and well and truly in position to follow through with the most exciting period in our history."  - Cho Minn Thant.

The other four First Qualifying stages will be held on Blue Canyon Country Club’s Canyon Course, on Phuket Island, from December 7-10; Blue Canyon’s Lakes Course from January 4-7; Thana City Country Club in Bangkok from January 11-14; and Springfield Country Club in Hua Hin, also from January 11-14.

Players entering the First Qualifying Stage will be on a first come first served basis, with the top-placed finishers progressing to the Final Stage.

“The Asian Tour is committed to providing a multi-tier platform for professional golfers, with the Qualifying School being an integral part of this.

“So many of our most prominent golfers have been successful at the Qualifying School and have gone on to achieve great things in the game – such as Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee (1999) and Kiradech Aphibarnrat (2009), Australian Scott Hend (2007), and American John Catlin (2018). I am sure the next edition of the Qualifying School will see the emergence of more Asian Tour stars of the future.”

21 Aussies among stacked Asian Tour Q School finale

asian tour q school schedule

A field of 234 players boasting multiple PGA TOUR and DP World Tour winners will include 21 Aussies when Final Stage of Asian Tour Qualifying School tees off in Thailand on Wednesday.

A total of 35 countries – including Kiwis Denzel Ieremia, Nick Voke, Kevin Chun and James Hydes – will be represented across a 90-hole five-round marathon at Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Hua Hin for the opportunity to secure one of 35 tour cards for the 2023 season.

Twelve of the Australian contingent have played their way into Final Stage via Sectional Qualifying while nine others were exempt through the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit, the Asian Development Tour Order of Merit and past champion status.

Headlining the international presence is seven-time DP World Tour winner Alvaro Quiros, two-time PGA TOUR winners Sangmoon Bae and Matt Every and veteran PGA TOUR player Steve Marino.

There are tournament winners throughout the Aussie contingent also.

Brett Rumford has won six times on the DP World Tour, Sam Brazel won the 2016 Hong Kong Open, David Gleeson is a three-time Asian Tour winner and Deyen Lawson, Dimitrios Papadatos, Tom Power Horan, Jack Thompson, Aaron Pike, Aaron Wilkin and Austin Bautista have all won on the PGA Tour of Australasia in the past 18 months.

Final Stage also represents an important moment in the careers of young players relatively new to the professional ranks.

West Australian pair Hayden Hopewell and Connor McKinney turned professional prior to the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship in December while the likes of Louis Dobbelaar, Jack Thompson, Aaron Wilkin, Charlie Dann, Austin Bautista and Doug Klein are seeking to establish status on an international tour.

Asian Tour releases bolstered 2024 season schedule

asian tour q school schedule

The Asian Tour’s remarkable period of accelerated growth will continue unabated in 2024 after it released another impressive and substantial schedule for the new season today.

Hot on the heels of the completion of its 2023 season last weekend, the Tour has unveiled an initial schedule of 20 strong events across 12 countries– with a significant number of important tournaments to be added.

Once finalised it is expected that the schedule will surpass this year– which saw 23 events staged with total prize money of US$35 million.

The Malaysian Open will celebrate its return to the schedule after a four-year hiatus by becoming the season-opening event and will be played from February 15-18.

It will be followed the week after by the International Series Oman – the first of 10 International Series events in 2024, which provide a pathway to the multi-million-dollar LIV Golf League.

International Series events will be played in Macau (International Series Macau presented by Wynn, March 14-17), Morocco (July 4-7), Indonesia (October 31–November 3), and Qatar (November 28 – December 1).

The Hong Kong Open will once again be part of The International Series while making its debut on the series will be the PIF Saudi International powered by Softbank Investment Advisers, which was the Tour’s opening event in 2022 and 2023. Both events will be in Q4. The dates will be announced later along with the details of three more International Series tournaments.

The Tour will also once again return to two of its traditional tournament strongholds, Korea and Chinese-Taipei.

Three events will be played in each market, with the GS Caltex Maekyung Open (May 2-5), Kolon Korea Open (June 20-23) and Shinhan Donghae Open (September 5-8) staged in Korea; while the Yeangder TPC (September 26-29), Mercuries Taiwan Masters (October 3-6) and Taiwan Glass Taifong Open (November 14-17) will be hosted in Chinese-Taipei.

The New Zealand Open presented by Sky Sport (February 29–March 3), the Saudi Open presented by Public Investment Fund (April 17-20) and the SJM Macao Open (October 10-13) are also back on the schedule.

Said Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner & CEO, Asian Tour: “The strength and depth of the Asian Tour’s 2024 schedule is reflective of the phenomenal growth we have been enjoying and we are already excited about what the new year will bring.

“Importantly, we are delighted to confirm the schedule so soon after the completion of our 2023 season, which will allow our members to plan accordingly and act as enormous incentive to those heading to Qualifying School.

“The International Series events combined with our central column of established tournaments form the backbone of the Tour while we look forward to being able to announce other premier events in due course.”

The Final Stage of the Asian Tour’s Qualifying School (January 16-20) commences proceedings next year, providing a gateway into what will be another season of great advancement for the Asian Tour.

The Asian Development Tour schedule will be released early in 2024 and will feature an expanded line-up of tournaments, for what is the Asian Tour’s constantly evolving feeder circuit.

35 players claim 2023 Asian Tour cards at Q-School

Golf in uae, golf in uae world.

Germany's Dominic Foos who plays out of The Els Club Dubai amongst the lucky few

Sport - Golf - Asian Tour Q-School Graduates

Australian Jack Thompson graduated with first class honours today at the Asian Tour Qualifying School after winning the Final Stage by two shots from countryman John Lyras and China’s Bai Zhengkai, as he closed out with a five-under-par 66 for a five-round total of 22 under.

Bai returned a 65 while Lyras, who started the day sharing the lead with Thompson, shot a 68 at Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand.

American Michael Maguire (65) and Ye Wocheng (69) from China shared fourth, four back from the winner.

A total of 35 players out of 77 starters secured right of passage onto the Asian Tour this year.

Nine players, tied on eight under, competed in a sudden-death play-off for the last two cards which eventually went to Thomas Power Horan from Australia and England’s Ben Jones, after they both birdied the first.

Remarkably, 24-year-old Thompson made it into this week’s event by claiming the final qualifying berth at the First Stage Qualifying Section C tournament at Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket, Thailand, at the start of the month.

Sport - Golf - Jack Thompson

Said Thompson: “This is great, I guess it hasn’t really sunk in yet. It has been a long week, I have been here for a fair few days now, it’s a relief and it’s just nice to win. There is always concern coming into an event if you can do it or not.”

Bai Zhengkai said: “This is great. I played Korn Ferry Tour 2020 to 2021, DP World Tour and Challenge Tour last year, and this year I’ll be trying the Asian Tour.

“Feels nice. I played well the last few days, feeling good and getting more familiar with the course and attacking more pins, and I think I had a pretty good week.”

A special mention to Dominic Foos. The German who bases himself in Dubai and plays out of The Els Club, Dubai had a glittering amateur career. After winning several junior amateur tournaments in Germany and internationally, Foos turned professional in 2014.

Foos played on the Challenge Tour in 2015 and won the Gant Open in August at the age of 17 years, 347 days – making him the youngest winner in Challenge Tour history.

Not long to wait for all the graduates as the first tournament on the 2023 Asian Tour schedule is the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, February 3-6.

Asian Tour Qualifying School schedule confirmed for 2020

Asian Tour Qualifying School schedule confirmed for 2020

The Asian Tour will return to Thailand for the 2020 Qualifying School where aspiring golf professionals from across the globe go in search of an Asian Tour card over a two-month period starting from January next year.

The Qualifying School, which comprises of two stages – the First Qualifying Stage and the Final Qualifying Stage, will be held at the Lake View Resort & Golf Club (Course A, B, C and D) in Hua Hin, Thailand.

The First Qualifying Stage will be played over two different weeks. Players have the option of entering the First Qualifying Stage on the week commencing January 8, or the week commencing February 12.

The top-placed players from the First Qualifying Stage will progress to the Final Qualifying Stage, which will be played over five rounds from February 19 to 23. The top 70 players (and ties) after 72 holes will play in the pivotal final round, which will be held on February 23.

At the conclusion of 90 holes, the top 35 (and ties) will be ranked accordingly for the 2020 season. Players who compete in the 2020 Qualifying School will also be eligible to play on the Asian Development Tour (ADT), which is the secondary circuit of the Asian Tour.

Asian Tour Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Cho Minn Thant is confident the 2020 Qualifying School will be another success as hopefuls aim to emulate the success of Thai duo Sadom Kaewkanjana and Kosuke Hamamoto on Tour this season.

Sadom became the fastest Qualifying School graduate to win on Tour when he won on his first professional start on Tour at the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open earlier in April. Kosuke, on the other hand, retained his card for the 2020 season after just five starts this season.

“The Asian Tour has unearthed many promising talents through the Qualifying School over the years. Our recent champion Yikeun Chang of Korea is also one of them. He had topped the class in 2016 prior to his breakthrough in Chinese Taipei last month.”

"Qualifying School is a grueling process but it gives players, both professionals and amateurs, the opportunity to earn their place on the Asian Tour in 2020. The competition is going to be intense but the rewards will be massive for successful entrants," said Cho.

Last year, Thailand’s Naras Luangphetcharaporn recorded the first ever 59 on the Asian Tour en route to securing his Tour card for the 2019 season. The 26-year-old ended his campaign in tied-21st place and was one of the 41 players, who finished inside top 35 and ties, to earn playing rights on the Asian Tour this season.

2018 Qualifying School graduate Viraj Madappa became the youngest Indian winner on Tour when he won the TAKE Solutions Masters on home soil in his rookie season last year, at the age of 20.

American Kurt Kitayama, who also came through the 2018 Qualifying School, rose through the ranks after breaking through in Mauritius last December. The talented 26-year-old would go on to secure his maiden win on the European Tour earlier in March.

Other successful graduates include Australian Zach Murray, who won the 2019 New Zealand Open in what was his third start on Tour this season, as well as John Catlin of the United States,  who marked his name in the Asian Tour history books by becoming the 10th golfer in Tour history to win three times in a single season last year.

Will Schoolboy Q Go On Tour For ‘Blue Lips?’

Aaron Williams

The last time Schoolboy Q went on tour was in 2019, for his then-new album Crash Talk . At the time, he hit 19 cities through the fall, concluding his tour on December 4 in his native Los Angeles. He announced his next album would come out sometime in 2020. Then, the pandemic hit and the possibility of touring went out the window for a number of artists.

Despite apparently completing that album as promised, Q decided to hold off on releasing it, as the landscape of the recording industry had changed so rapidly with the advent of TikTok, an explosion in music festivals, and a general uncertainty about how to proceed. Q himself settled into dad life, even releasing a standalone single about being a “ Soccer Dad ,” and worked on his golf game . However, he’s got a new album out, Blue Lips , so it’s fair to wonder: Will he go on tour again for his new album?

🤔🤔🤔🗣️BLUE LIPS TOUR https://t.co/M2dOHuYEyn — ScHoolboy Q (@ScHoolboyQ) March 4, 2024

If his tweet about the subject is anything to go on, it looks like the answer is a resounding yes. Responding to a tweet about the speculation surrounding a desired tour announcement, Q wrote an all-caps endorsement, “BLUE LIPS TOUR,” complete with the widely acknowledged shouting emoji.
