Mario Kart Tour

  • View history

Mario Kart Tour is a free spin-off Mario Kart game. It's the third Mario game released for mobile operating systems, after Super Mario Run and Dr. Mario World . It was announced on January 31, 2018, and was originally scheduled for release by March 2019, but was later on released on September 25, 2019 in Japan, Oceania, Asia, North America, and Europe.

While the game is designed for mobile devices, much like the game's predecessors on Nintendo handhelds ( Super Circuit , DS , and 7 on dedicated handhelds, and 8 Deluxe on the hybrid Nintendo Switch ), it also supports tablets and even computers with a compatible mobile OS. An update even allowed "Landscape Mode" for users playing on a phone.

With a score of 58% on Metacritic, it has the lowest critical score out of all the Mario Kart games .

Gameplay [ ]

Mario Kart Tour features gameplay similar to Mario Kart 7 , featuring Aerial tricks , Mini-Turbos , Slipstreaming , and gliding sections . Due to the fact that the game is on mobile devices, the controls for this game are significantly different to the mainline Mario Kart games: the player now accelerates automatically, and this also applies to performing tricks (if they have enough speed). The turning physics have been changed, where the player taps and holds to the screen where the kart should go, although there are invisible barriers preventing the kart from crashing into a wall, going off-road (without any kind of boost), or falling off the track.

Races are now in two laps instead of three (except for GCN Baby Park , which has 5 (it has 3 in the T variant), and 3DS Rainbow Road , which has a single lap with 3 sections). Also, Wii Rainbow Road and GBA Bowser's Castle 4 are now one lap in two sections. Also, Races and Battles are once again back to 8 racers.

One of the main features in this game is the points system. At the start of a race or battle, the player is granted starting points that depend on the base points of their selected driver , kart and glider . Also, the player is rewarded points for their actions during the race or battle such as collecting coins , performing Mini-Turbos , gliding , hitting opponents with items , etc. Also, more points are rewarded if the player maintains a combo, which stops if an action took too long to occur. Karts that favor or favorite a course will grant a points multiplier depending on the course actions, and Gliders that favor or favorite a course will grant more points for maintaining a combo and increase the time before the combo streak ends. Lastly, points are rewarded after finishing the race, which is higher for better finishing positions. Also, these points increase as a player levels up.

One of the game's most interesting features is the Frenzy Action , which can only happen to drivers that favorite a track in the game, where the driver can gain access to three item slots. To activate a Frenzy, the driver must get the same item in all three slots. When this happens, the kart temporarily undergoes the effects of a Starman and can use an unlimited number of the item that is involved in getting the frenzy (although some items behave differently than normal in a Frenzy).

Returning from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! , each racer has a Special Item (known as a Special Skill in this game), which has a similar effect in the original game. Some Special include items that have been introduced in this game, such as the Mushroom Cannon and the Bubble , and returning items, such as the Giant Banana and the Lucky Seven .

Additionally, courses can be driven backwards, with their backwards layout being referred to as an "R" Variant, short for "Reverse variant." In certain spots, special wire-mesh bridges called Chain-link Paths will be placed so racers can scale a wall (due to the lack of Anti-gravity ). The "Trick variant," or "T" variant for short, places more objects that can be used to get jump boosts , and the chain-link paths from the R variant are one type of such object that can be added. The reverse-trick variant, or "R/T" variant for short, combines the Reverse Variant with the Trick Variant: trickable objects are added to the course while the racers traverse it backwards.

This game has an experience system, where players can gain experience by placing high in races or battles. Higher levels mean more items will be available in the Daily Selects, and more points are rewarded for finishing a race. Also, a bonus reward is rewarded, which is coins or rubies .

Since the Battle Tour , that came out on October 5, 2022, Battle Mode makes a return in this game. However, only the traditional Balloon Battle mode is available, and the rules are similar to the original rules like in Super Mario Kart : Participants start with two balloons, and they are eliminated if both are lost. Also, eliminated opponents appear floating outside the stage, and they can throw either Bananas , Green Shells , and Bob-ombs on the stage.

There is also "Auto Mode", which was added to the game on an update in 2020. Here, the player can watch their loadout and their seven other opponents race on the track with customisable options such as filters and formations. Coins , Star Tokens and Grand Stars are still obtained in this mode. This mode is unavailable in Battle Mode and on online multiplayer.

Content [ ]

Single-player mode [ ].

Single Player Mode revolves around playing through the Tour itself, with each Tour lasting two weeks. Whenever a new Tour launches, it will bring new cups for the player to race or battle through. Each cup contains 3 tracks (or 2 tracks and 1 battle stage) and 1 bonus challenge (challenges that are easily relatable to Mario Kart DS s Mission Mode ). Certain cups are locked from the beginning, which will be unlocked as time passes. The wait time to unlock these cups can be sped up by using Quick Tickets. Originally, the next cups and tracks had to be unlocked by playing the previous track or challenge.

Based on the score a player gets in each race or battle, they will be allotted 0 - 5 Grand Stars , which are used to unlock tour gifts (which can contain Coins , Rubies , Pipes , tickets, Drivers, Karts and Gliders ). Points earned across all the courses (not counting bonus challenges) are totaled together for the All-Cup Ranking score.

The Cups in a Tour in this game are named after a mainline driver who appears in this game, such as Mario and Toad . In this case, the character that has their name featured on a cup will favor all the tracks in the cup, and they will favorite a track that they favor by default.

Since the Mii Tour , the second cup of a Tour is always the Mii Cup. Here, all Mii Racing Suits will favorite the first track of the cup, and favor the other tracks, but they will favorite them if they favor or favorite them by default. Also, all Mii Racing Suits will favor the first track of every cup in the Tour.

Multiplayer Mode [ ]

Multiplayer Mode is available to all players who own the app (not just the Gold Pass players as shown in the first December 2019 Beta test). It puts you against other players to compete for first place, or just to have fun.

Players now have a Multiplayer Rank (similar to the Player Rank, which caps at level 150), and for every top spot they finish in, their bar will fill. Once filled, it will advance players to the next Multiplayer Rank (starting at F, moving onto E, then D, and so on until you eventually reach A).

  • All players who advance to the next Multiplayer Rank earn a starting 20% for their bar.

Players can choose from two different Multiplayer race options: Standard Race and Standard Battle. Their rules are updated daily, and the cups players will play in are rotated every 12 minutes, providing players with five different cups per hour. Before the Battle Tour , Gold Races were available before being replaced by Standard Battles.

Standard Race [ ]

In Standard Races, players from all over the world can play simultaneously in a room. There can be from 2 to 8 players racing in a game. Anyone racing in these rooms are limited to the following:

  • 100 - 150cc
  • 1, 2, or Default item slots
  • No Teams or 2 Teams

Standard Battle [ ]

Standard Battles are similar to Standard Races, but they only involve battles on battle stages. Rules are limited to:

  • Shells Only, Bananas Only, Bob-ombs Only, Frenzy On

Gold Race (Unavailable) [ ]

Gold Races, unlike Standard Races, were available to only Gold Pass players. The same rules apply from the Standard Race rules, with the only exception being 200cc .

Local/Friend Rooms [ ]

Local Multiplayer rooms can be created by a player who has their location on. Nearby Mario Kart Tour users can then join the room for up to 8-player fun.

Friend rooms abide by the same rules, with the only exception being the fact that you can only play with players on your Friends List.

If you're the creator of a Local/Friend room, you have the ability to set the rules of the race, similar to the daily rules of Standard and Gold Races.

  • COM Racers, No COM Racers (if the room isn't full and COM Racers are on, AI characters will fill in the empty spaces of the room
  • No Teams or 2-4 Teams

Challenges [ ]

There are many challenges in this game, which reward Rubies , Grand Stars and a badge. each set of challenges has 9 challenges, and when a row of these (whether horizontal, vertical or diagonal) is completed, coins will be rewarded. When all 9 challenges are completed, a bonus reward is given, which is either Rubies , a special driver , kart or glider , or a badge. A Tour also has a set of its own Premium Challenges, which give a lot of good rewards, but these challenges much be purchased with real money and a Gold Pass won't get you them.

Daily Challenge [ ]

Every day, a course is set for a daily challenge, which is the first course they haven't attempted that isn't involved in a current, past or future Weekly Ranking. Here, the player will play as the Driver has the track showcases on their icon even if they haven't been unlocked yet, and the best kart and glider they own for the course. After the race or battle finishes, the player is rewarded a free pipe pull, but on the fourteenth time this finishes in a tour, a badge is rewarded instead.

Weekly Ranking [ ]

In a Tour's Weekly Ranking, players go against 19 other players that have a matching Tier by gathering points on the three tracks (or battle stages) of a selected cup, which is the Tour's first cup for the Tour's first week, and the third cup for the last. At the end of the weekly ranking, the top players receive better rewards and move up to a higher tier, whilst the lower players receive less or no rewards and either move up less tiers, remain in that tier, or move down a tier or two. Higher tiers result in greater rewards at the top positions.

Coin Rush [ ]

In Coin Rush, you play on a special Coin -filled track. Playing as Gold Mario , the player will drive through one lap of the course, collecting Coins that are automatically pulled towards Gold Mario when he approaches them. Red Coins are worth 2, and Blue Coins are worth 5.

Coin Rush requires Rubies or Coin Rush Tickets to play. You can spend extra to increase the multiplier.

  • Ticket or 5 Rubies - x2 Coins
  • 3 Tickets or 15 Rubies - x6 Coins
  • 5 Tickets or 25 Rubies - x10 Coins

In the Shop, players can exchange their coins , Star Tokens and Rubies for new items, drivers , karts and gliders .

  • There is the Daily Selects, which sells 3-9 items depending on the player's level. Tickets, drivers, karts and gliders are sold here at a number of coins , with items with higher rarities costing more. Items refresh daily, hence the name, or they can be refreshed by using a Quick Ticket.
  • There is the Token Shop, which normally sells sets of coins , rubies , and tickets, a pipe pull that stacks, and a balloon. At special circumstances, Gold Pipes can also appear here. Items refresh after the end of a tour.
  • There is the Tier Shop, which sells tickets at a higher price. Items refresh after the end of a tour.
  • There is the Mii Racing Suit Shop, which sells up to ten Mii Racing Suits for 70 - 100 Rubies . Items refresh after the end of a tour.
  • Underneath the spotlight content is the Daily Spotlight. This features six drivers (excluding Mii Racing Suits), six karts and six gliders that favorite at least one track that is involved in a current, past or future Weekly Ranking in a Tour. These items refresh every day, hence the name, or they can be refreshed by using a Quick Ticket.

The Pipe [ ]

Since 3.0 [ ].

Up until the Battle Tour , the pipes which can be pulled using rubies, including the free pipe pulls by earning Grand Stars , were removed and replaced with the Spotlight Shop and pipes available in Tour Gifts. This time, Pipes can no longer reward Spotlight content, but they can still be used to unlock characters , karts and gliders , as well as reward tickets, coins and rubies . This time, the Pipe's rewards are properly randomised.

Pipes can be purchased at the Token Shop, where they can be purchased up to 34 times per Tour, starting at a price of 20 Star Tokens at the beginning of a Tour. As they are bought, the price increases by 10 until the price reaches 200, and then the price would then increase by 50.

Pipes can also be obtained by playing on multiplayer. As the player plays in this mode a gauge towards a free pipe pull will fill up, which can be received multiple times during the run. When they quit multiplayer, they have the option to fire all the pipes that they have earnt.

Before 3.0 [ ]

Before the Version 3.0.0 Update, The Pipe is a special feature used to unlock characters , karts , and gliders . Rubies are required to fire of the Pipe for either 1 separate item or 10 bundled items, which come at a better price.

  • 5 Rubies - 1 Pipe item
  • 45 Rubies - 10 Pipe items (10% Ruby discount)

Each tour includes two sets of Spotlight content. Week 1 of the specified tour will include certain Spotlight items that'll help players out during the Ranked Cup of Part 1. Week 2 will include Spotlight items that will help players out during the Ranked Cup of Part 2. There are certain exceptions when it comes down to the Spotlight items; at times, there will be 1 High-end driver, kart, and glider, while at other times there will be a variety of items.

While it may seem random, the Pipe is in fact not completely random. Pipes will have either 100 or 50 items inside of them at the start of their appearance time. Each class (Normal/Super/High-end) of drivers, karts, and gliders has a limit to how many of them can be received. The Pipe can be reset to restore its contents though, allowing you to pull items from a class that you've once emptied.

Once you've received a specific item from any category, its probability will drop, while the rest of the items' probabilities will rise.

Trivia! [ ]

  • Nintendo announced Mario Kart Tour via Twitter on January 31, 2018.
  • This is in contrast to Super Mario Run s one-time US$9.99 in-app purchase to fully unlock the game, and lower monthly fees for Nintendo Switch Online service.
  • Nintendo Network support, though unlike Super Mario Run and company, it has no My Nintendo support.
  • Rubies as in-game currency; unlike Super Mario Run , My Nintendo Coins cannot be used.
  • Friend lists
  • Mario Kart Tour is the ninth release of Mario Kart as consumer software, but as it omits the number 9 in its name, it could indicate that Nintendo distinguishes it from the main Mario Kart series, although it recognises this game as the ninth installment in the franchise, as seen in the trailer for the first wave of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass . [1]
  • This is the fourth handheld game of the franchise after Super Circuit , DS , and 7 .
  • Mario Kart 8 is the only game in the main series without a currently-confirmed returning stage in this game.
  • This is the only Mario Kart game where Mario isn't a starting character.
  • In fact, only 3 Characters from the mainline Mario Kart series (excluding the GP series) haven't returned which are Paratroopa (from Mario Kart Double Dash ), R.O.B. (from Mario Kart DS ) and Honey Queen (from Mario Kart 7 ).
  • Miis were originally going to appear in the initial release but were removed until the final cut by Version 2.12.0 and Mii Tour, perhaps due to discontinuation of both Miitomo and Pokémon Rumble Rush in 2018 and 2020, Respectively.
  • This is the first game to feature the Pipe Frame as a standard Kart since Mario Kart: Super Circuit .
  • This game is one of the only games of the Mario Kart franchise to have three items inside a single item box.
  • In beta version, emeralds were used instead of rubies .
  • This is the second game where Lakitu is not present in the pre-race countdown.
  • S to S+6 ranks are only available for Gold Pass users.
  • This game features the most clone characters in the entire Mario Kart series.
  • 3DS Rainbow Road averts this as the final lap music is taken from Mario Kart 7 .
  • Before Holiday Tour (December 2022) it used to be raised to 5 Semitones.
  • Piranha Plant Pipeline is the only non-city course that didn't return as a retro track in the Booster Course Pass of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe .

Mario Kart Tour: How to Unlock Tracks

Image of Omar Banat

Mario Kart is nothing without its memorable tracks. Rainbow Road, Toad’s Turnpike, Music Park and so many other classic courses stick with you. Mario Kart Tour lets you experience the greatest tracks from all past games right on your phone. Of course, it wouldn’t be Mario Kart without the need to unlock these racetracks.

Unlocking Tracks in Mario Kart Tour

Getting new tracks.

Stars are currently the only means of unlocking more tracks in Mario Kart Tour . That’s simple enough, but earning the stars isn’t always as easy. These stars are not an in-game currency, they’re more of a collectible. Think power moons from Mario Odyssey. You keep a running total and more cups are unlocked as your star total increases.

Each cup has a set number of stars so you know exactly how well you need to do in order to unlock the next bunch of races.

Earning Stars

You can earn these stars by performing well in races. You receive a total score at the end of the race which is based upon your finishing position, the character you picked, the kart you picked, the glider you picked, how many boosts you got, and how many hits you landed on opponents. The more points you earn in a Mario Kart Tour race, the more stars you will unlock.

There are typically five point thresholds that align with the number of stars you’ll earn. Reach the top spot and you’ll earn yourself five stars. There are also short levels that almost act as tutorials for different maneuvers which will net you three stars if completed successfully.

If you fail to earn five stars the first time you complete a race, you’ll still be able to pick up a few more by going to that track again. However, you can only ever get five stars per course. This means if you get four stars on a course you still can earn one more star by going back to that track and getting a higher score.

Now that you know how to Unlock Tracks in Mario Kart Tour , go out there and get them all. If you want some tips on how to tear up those courses, then check out our guide on how to Drift and Snake in Mario Kart Tour .

All Mario Kart City Tracks In Mario Kart 8, Ranked Worst To Best

  • 14 city tracks from Mario Kart Tour were remade and added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe via the Booster Course Pass DLC .
  • All 14 correspond to a real-life city, using iconic landmarks for the track design and local music for the soundtrack.
  • The city tracks uniquely change course on almost every lap, but some are still rather boring compared to the better ones.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has not been left wanting for track variety, especially following the Booster Course Pass ' addition of 48 new tracks, 14 of which are based on real-life cities. These aren't entirely new tracks, as they originally hail from Mario Kart Tour , the series' mobile entry, but were revamped for their inclusion in MK8 . While seeing real-world locales recreated for a Mario Kart track is endearing, some are significantly more fun to race through than others.

While the city tracks weren't nearly as exciting as brand-new Booster Course Pass tracks, like Yoshi's Island and Squeaky Clean Sprint, they did bring some novelty to Mario Kart 8 . Their key design feature is each lap being different, often sending racers in the opposite direction on a street they have already traversed, adding to the chaos. It's a track design that could make a comeback in Mario Kart 9 , but would hopefully shirk the current city tracks' lackluster visuals for the dense, high-quality environments the series is known for.

13 Fastest Mario Kart 8 Setups

New york minute - united states, booster course pass wave 2.

New York Minute was one of the first city tracks released for Mario Kart 8 . The course is very simple, with not many obstacles in the way and only a few shortcuts available - the best one being on the first lap by turning left soon after starting the race and using the ramp to fly on top of the bus and get a double Item Box. The track has taxis driving around to avoid, and a few Goombas walking in the park. Apart from the bright atmosphere of the shop advertisements, New York Minute is relatively easy and basic in terms of driving.

Tokyo Blur - Japan

Booster course pass wave 1.

Tokyo Blur has three laps, with the first two being quite similar, the only difference being a few turns. Compared to other city tracks, Tokyo Blur is very basic, with little imagination beyond racing through plain city streets. Although there are plenty of opportunities to grab Item Boxes, there are not many shortcuts or Dash Panels to gain extra speed on. The track could have showcased more of Tokyo's iconic landmarks, instead of a simple road with not many obstacles; more natural elements of Tokyo could have been featured, showing the variety Japan has to offer.

Sydney Sprint - Australia

Sydney Sprint offers some famous landmarks and locations, such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbor Bridge and Luna Park. However, the course is very straightforward and doesn't provide much opportunity for extra speed boosts or shortcuts. The track is sectioned into three parts, with the second starting in the opposite direction to the others. A lot of the course has winding roads, but it does not present much difficulty. The best area is in the final section, where racers glide into the Sydney Opera House and drive through.

10 New Features We Need To See In Mario Kart 9

Paris promenade - france.

The first two laps in Paris Promenade are the same, but then switches around on section three, letting players drive in the opposite direction and loop back. It is a simple track, with not many shortcuts available. The course mainly features The Eiffel Tower which players drive around. However, many of the other famous landmarks it features only make a small appearance by being seen in the background. Having racers drive through The Louvre or Notre Dame Cathedral would provide much more variety and capture other elements of the city.

London Loop - England

Booster course pass wave 3.

London Loop is a long track in comparison to other city courses. Lap one and two take place clockwise, but then it switches to counterclockwise for lap three. Although the course shows many iconic landmarks, such as Big Ben and the London Eye, there is one important feature missing, the London Underground. The background of the race focuses more on an old-fashioned design, rather than modern elements. Having players be able to drive into the underground, or use it as a shortcut, would add more variety and show the more up-to-date city.

Vancouver Velocity - Canada

Booster course pass wave 5.

Vancouver Velocity doesn't just take racers through famous landmarks, but it also features more natural parts of Vancouver. The second and third laps take racers through the icy Rogers Arena, where ice skating Shy Guys provide moving obstacles. Despite the scenic view, the track isn't hard, as it's mostly driving on flat road. If Vancouver Velocity were to be remade, Nintendo could add more difficulty by getting players to race on mountains or on maple trees, like the Booster Course Pass Wave 3's Maple Treeway course.

Madrid Drive - Spain

Booster course pass wave 6.

Madrid Drive uses traditional Spanish flamenco music as its soundtrack through acoustic guitar and claps. Players get to drive on Plaza Mayor with a large Wiggler in the center which must be driven around. The course ends with racers going through Santiago Bernabéu Stadium with Shoe Goombas and soccer balls bouncing around. The track takes a different route each lap, showcasing many famous landmarks and letting players experience something new in each section. With Dash Panels spread throughout and Thwomps to avoid, Madrid Drive has variety and a catchy soundtrack.

Amsterdam Drift - The Netherlands

Booster course pass wave 4.

Amsterdam Drift is filled with variety, featuring different landscapes and iconic pieces of The Netherlands. Players race through the streets of Amsterdam, weaving between trams and using Dash Panels for speed. There is a large section of driving underwater in the canals, with water shooting up that can be used to get a boost. The final lap takes place in a tulip field, with a tight road and Piranha Plants trying to chomp racers away. Although it has more traditional features of The Netherlands with its windmills and tulips, it is a course that offers something new each lap.

Singapore Speedway - Singapore

Although the other city tracks feature famous landmarks from the cities it is based on, Singapore Speedway is one of the few courses that is modeled closely to its real-life counterpart - Central Area in Singapore. A majority of the race is set in the sky, where players can use the glider and get boosts of speed through the hoops, as well as pick Item Boxes up along the way. The course offers a fun and scenic race, with shortcuts and an area that has Innertube Goombas in an infinity pool.

Singapore Speedway is one of two real world city courses to lack any in-game sponsored advertisements, the other track being Athens Dash.

Los Angeles Laps - United States

Unlike the other courses, each section of Los Angeles Laps takes place in a different part of the city, so each lap has its own finish line in a different position. This provides variety when racing, as players can experience driving on different terrain including sand, mud, water, and a regular road. In the third section, racers speed through Inglewood Oil Field, which features large metal beams crashing down that must be avoided. Los Angeles Laps is one of the most diverse city tracks, and provides plenty of opportunities for speed boosts from Dash Panels and Item Boxes.

Athens Dash - Greece

Rather than focusing on specific landmarks found in the city, Athens Dash uses the ruins of ancient Athens as a background. The track's bumpiness gives racers chances to jump and get speed boosts when driving over rubble and fallen pillars. Athens Dash has rotating Item Boxes which players must weave between columns to grab. In the final lap, there is a DK Mountain style hill with Dash Panels scattered on it, where boulders drop and roll down for players to dodge.

Bangkok Rush - Thailand

This course is more complex than the other city tracks, with different shortcuts and heights to race on throughout. Players can drive on top of the umbrellas from the Night Market Ratchada and get extra speed boosts from jumping off the boats in the first lap. One of the best parts of the course is on lap three, where racers drive up and into a multi-storied building, needing to turn perfectly to the left while driving. Bangkok Rush is a little difficult to navigate at first, but has many shortcuts and opportunities for speed boosts as well as a scenic view of Bangkok.

Rome Avanti - Italy

Rome Avanti has many notable features, such as the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, and small alleyways to wind through. The course has a mix of tight turns and wider roads with roundabouts and fountains to navigate around. There is also a variety of terrain to drive on. From cobbled streets, dirt in the park and many Glide Panels to allow racers to fly over landmarks and pick up extra speed through the hoops. Rome Avanti also features many characters from the franchise throughout, like Chain Chomps, Monty Moles and Fuzzies to dodge.

"Avanti" is an Italian word that roughly translates to "onwards" or "forwards," which makes this course the first Mario Kart course to feature a non-English word in the English name.

Berlin Byways - Germany

Germany is associated with techno and classical music, and the soundtrack mixes both to create an upbeat and catchy tune. The course has cars and trucks to avoid on the road, as well as Whomps and Thwomps trying to flatten racers spread throughout. There are a variety of shortcuts available, such as going through the train on lap one or using the Dash Panels located on the side of the course in between pillars. With tight turns, plenty of Item Boxes available and famous landmarks seen throughout, Berlin Byways is catchy and fun, making it the best Mario Kart 8 Deluxe city track.

GBA Sky Garden

Sky Garden is the second race course of the Lightning Cup in Mario Kart: Super Circuit . The track takes place on a cobbled road atop clouds, with bridges connecting them and beanstalks scattered around the clouds. This course has no major obstacles, although players can easily fall off of it. The Luigi blimp from Luigi Circuit can be seen in the background. A similar course with several shared names in other languages known as Cloudtop Cruise appears in Mario Kart 8 .

Sky Garden returns as the third course of the retro Lightning Cup in Mario Kart DS , in Mario Kart Tour , debuting in the Sky Tour , and in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass as the third course of the Lucky Cat Cup .

Mario Kart: Super Circuit [ edit ]

Course layout [ edit ].

The course begins with a 90° turn to the left, the first set of Item Boxes , and a slight S-bend that ends in a wide jump pad; here racers must jump over a gap in the track. There is then an inverse S-bend immediately followed by another 90° left turn and a brief straightaway. The straightaway leads into a left turn followed by a sharp right turn and another 90° left turn. Racers then drive over a short bridge that leads into a sharp left turn followed by two slight turns and another brief straightaway. After the straightaway is a U-turn to the right followed by a slight left turn and another short bridge, with the last item set on top. After two left turns and a slight right turn, racers reach one last brief straightaway; along this straightaway there is a hole in the left side of the track preceded by a jump pad. At the end of the straightaway lies the finish line.

Shortcuts [ edit ]

The first notable shortcut can be found after the first turn. The player can use a Mushroom to drive through the off-road to the right of the track and go off a jump pad, clearing a large gap and skipping the two slight S-bends.

The second notable shortcut can be found at the end of the first straightaway. Instead of turning left, the player can use a Mushroom to continue driving straight through the off-road, using a jump pad to clear the gap and skip the following sharp right turn. Alternatively, they can take the left turn but use a jump pad on the inside of the sharp right turn to cut it off without using an item; this rewards the player with a lone Item Box. However, if the player does use a Mushroom when going off the latter jump pad, they can land on a later part of the track and completely skip several turns.

Lastly, the player can drive to the left of the track immediately after the right U-turn, where there is a cloud platform. By driving across it to the track on the other side, the player can cut off several turns without needing to use an item.

Mario Kart DS [ edit ]

Screenshot of GBA Sky Garden

Sky Garden makes its classic course debut in Mario Kart DS as the third course of the Lightning Cup , holding the distinction of being the only track to appear in the same cup twice (not counting the Extra Tracks in Mario Kart: Super Circuit ). There is an added shortcut in this version. After going across the small boost ramp leading to an item, the player must use a Mushroom and hop at the exact right second to get across the large gap. The shortcut can also be done with a well placed jump over the large gap if the player is using a high acceleration kart without a Mushroom, but is very difficult to perform. This is possible in the original game, but the player will fall right over the other side no matter what. Additionally, the first shortcut has an added longer cloud in front of the original one at the gap's end. The staff ghost is Daisy .

Missions [ edit ]

There is one mission that takes place on Sky Garden:

  • Mission 6-5 : The player controls Peach , who must pass through 8 gates within 50 seconds. Each Item Box contains Triple Mushrooms .

Mario Kart Tour [ edit ]

GBA Sky Garden in Mario Kart Tour

Sky Garden returns in Mario Kart Tour starting from the Sky Tour . It is the second classic course in Mario Kart Tour (the first being GBA Sunset Wilds ) to receive a new arrangement for its music and currently one of two GBA courses with a previous arrangement to receive a new arrangement in the game, the other being Peach Circuit (and by extension, GBA Luigi Circuit ). There are now two blimps; both use the appearance from Singapore Speedway . The giant beanstalks that previously only appeared in the background are now closer to the course, and one of them features a red Toad House on a cloud.

A course banner is added at the starting line, featuring the classic Mario Kart logo in a round frame supported by two beanstalks, which grow from earthenware planters. The road is also now made entirely of gray stone files, formed in an arched pattern, and features flowerpots and fences in the off-road areas. The course has been simplified, with some of the bends being removed. The first shortcut now features players performing Jump Boosts on giant leaves while the last is now under the beanstalk that supports the Toad House. The second shortcut is removed; the ramp now leads to a mushroom trampoline on the main route. The straightaway near the finish line is replaced with a gliding section.

The course also appears as Sky Garden R (reversed), Sky Garden T (with ramps), and Sky Garden R/T (reversed with ramps). The former two debuted alongside the normal variant in the Sky Tour, while the latter was introduced in the 2023 New Year's Tour . In the R and T variants, the mushroom trampoline is removed. In the T variant, there are several Piranha Plants along the track as well as a moving platform with a dash panel ramp. In the R/T variant, racers drive across several additional mushroom trampolines, including a blue one.

GBA Sky Garden's R/T variant is visible in an unused banner present in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 's files as of version 2.0.0. This instance predated its official announcement in the 2023 New Year's Tour .

Bonus challenges [ edit ]

Mario kart 8 deluxe [ edit ].

GBA Sky Garden as it appears in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Sky Garden returns in the Booster Course Pass DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe . It is the third course of the Lucky Cat Cup released in the first wave in March 2022, nearly a month after its inclusion in Mario Kart Tour , though it was revealed in gameplay form in a February 2022 Nintendo Direct prior to its addition to said game. It derives its appearance and layout from Mario Kart Tour , except with orange stone tiles instead of gray and an animated cloud texture. Unlike Tour, the leaf shortcut is reflected on the minimap. Many mushroom trampolines can be seen growing from underneath the course, and several airships from Cloudtop Cruise appear in the background instead of the blimps. Koopa Paratroopas appear as spectators on the course.

Like many other classic courses in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe , the music has been redone with live instruments, featuring a saxophone, piano, and electric guitar lead instead of the original song's synths.

Much like the other tracks in Wave 1, the Booster Course Pass's initial reveal trailer and official artwork use screenshots of the Mario Kart Tour version of Sky Garden. However, on the Nintendo eShop image Media:MK8D BCP Wave 1.jpg for Wave 1, Sky Garden is the only course to use a screenshot of its 8 Deluxe version rather than its Tour version.

As with all other courses from Wave 1, this course's icon and lighting were adjusted slightly in the 2.1.0 update.

Profiles [ edit ]

  • European website bio: " In this race above the clouds, don't let the beautiful view go to your head. One false move and it's a very long way down to the ground. You'll need boosts aplenty to make the most of Sky Garden's numerous short-cuts, but don't be afraid of using your brakes too. "
  • This course first appeared in the Mario Kart™: Super Circuit™ game for Game Boy™ Advance.
  • This course takes place on some fluffy clouds. (How does that even work??)
  • There are minimal obstacles but beware of falling off the edge!
  • Nintendo Switch News app (UK): Cruise through the clouds in Sky Garden! Now, we'd like to present to you a course released as part of the first wave, which is available now: GBA Sky Garden! First appearing in Mario Kart: Super Circuit on the Game Boy Advance, Sky Garden is an above-the-clouds course that floats way up in the stratosphere. It's an easy-riding course with few obstacles, but careful you don't fall off, as those time penalties will start to add up before you know it!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - All DLC Tracks Released So Far

GameSpot may receive revenue from affiliate and advertising partnerships for sharing this content and from purchases through links.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has continued to be the best selling game on the Nintendo Switch, having sold nearly 44 million copies since the end of 2021 . While the Booster Pass was originally described as a collection of old tracks, Nintendo has brought out original tracks like Yoshi's Island. Nintendo has also started adding new racer, with Birdo the first to join and five more unannounced ones to be added later. It was originally released in May of 2014, meaning it's been over eight years since Nintendo last released a new Mario Kart game on console.

While the next mainline Mario Kart game isn't coming anytime soon, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting a ton of fresh content from now until the end of 2023. Nintendo announced that 48 new tracks will be added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe , split into six waves of eight tracks. All six waves have been released, adding 48 tracks from other Mario Kart titles as DLC, in addition to a few new characters.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass gets you all six waves of tracks, whenever they are released. The Booster Pass can be purchased for $25 on the Nintendo eShop and is also included in the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription, which runs $50 a year for a single subscription. While Nintendo doesn't announce which tracks will be included in each wave until right before the next wave is released, some data miners were able to determine possible future tracks based on some music in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Some of the tracks found were Maple Treeway (Wii), Sunset Wilds (GBA), and Amsterdam Drift (Tour). Here is every DLC track added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so far.

Paris Promenade - Tour

Paris Promenade - Tour

First appearing in Mario Kart Tour, Paris Promenade is a course set in the heart of Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in the center of the course. The majority of the track is flat, running across brick roads. Paris Promenade has a special feature that many of the Tour courses have, where the path you drive through the track changes each lap.

Toad Circuit - 3DS

Toad Circuit - 3DS

Toad Circuit originally appeared in Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS. This shorter course is similar to some of the other character based circuits in Mario Kart, resembling something closer to a real-life race track than what you expect from Mario Kart. You can tell this one is Toad's track because of his giant balloon.

Choco Mountain - N64

Choco Mountain - N64

Choco Mountain first appeared on the Nintendo 64 and takes place within a, presumably, chocolate mountain. The course itself is designed to go up and through the mountain before heading back down to do another lap. It features falling rocks in one section and has the vibes of a mountain mine.

Coconut Mall - Wii

Coconut Mall - Wii

Coconut Mall is an iconic track from Mario Kart Wii. This track takes place inside a mall, featuring escalators that can either boost you up or slow you down depending on when you try to go up them. There are also some cars in the parking lot at the end of each lap that can take you out if you aren't careful.

Tokyo Blur - Tour

Tokyo Blur - Tour

Another Mario Kart Tour track, Tokyo Blur, takes place during the daytime in a section of Tokyo. This map features Japanese buildings and a brief stint on a Tokyo highway. Like many other Mario Kart Tour maps, this track has three different paths, so each lap isn't the same as the previous one.

Shroom Ridge - DS

Shroom Ridge - DS

Shroom Ridge made its debut on Nintendo DS. Similar to Toad's Turnpike, Shroom Ridge takes place entirely on a busy road, with NPC vehicles driving that can wreck anyone who touches them. Instead of taking place in a city environment, the course takes place on a grassy mountain ridge.

Sky Garden - GBA

Sky Garden - GBA

Sky Garden originated on the Game Boy Advance, taking place on a giant beanstalk in the sky. This course features bouncy mushroom platformers and a few flying sections. The track features stone roadways on floating clouds, weaving between massive beanstalks, with a few bouncy mushrooms along the way.

Ninja Hideaway - Tour

Ninja Hideaway - Tour

Ninja Hideaway is another Mario Kart Tour map and this one isn't based on a real world location. Instead, it takes place in a fictionalized ninja hideout that is far too big for the Mario characters. You race through the hideout and across massive rooftops, as Koopas and Shy Guys cheer from the sidelines.

New York Minute - Tour

New York Minute - Tour

Starting off the second wave of new tracks is New York Minute, another real-world map from Mario Kart Tour. This one takes place in the streets of the city, with a small detour with what seems like Central Park. Once again, this map has multiple different routes, changing from lap-to-lap.

Mario Circuit 3 - SNES

Mario Circuit 3 - SNES

An SNES classic, Mario Circuit 3 is one of, if not the, blandest Mario Kart tracks ever made. The map takes place in a dirt area with colored blocks surrounding the track and an outside green pasture with original Super Mario blocks and green pipes decorating it.

Kalimari Desert - N64

Kalimari Desert - N64

Kalimari Desert originated on the Nintendo 64. This desert map has a western vibe to it, as players race around a mountain. The main attraction of this map is a train that constantly circles the track on a set of tracks, occasionally crossing over the actual track.

Waluigi Pinball - DS

Waluigi Pinball - DS

Waluigi Pinball originated in Mario Kart DS. This map is designed after the lanky mischief maker and takes place on an oversized pinball machine. The majority of the course is the loading track, where the pinball travels through on its way to the main table. On the main table there are tons of massive pinballs flying around that will wreck anyone in their path.

Sydney Sprint - Tour

Sydney Sprint - Tour

Sydney Sprint originated in Mario Kart Tour, taking place in the performing arts area, near the Sydney Opera House. The map sends players through parks and buildings, surrounded by the waterfront and a ferris wheel. Like other real-world inspired Mario Kart Tour maps, this course features multiple paths, changing each lap.

Snow Land - GBA

Snow Land - GBA

Originally from the Game Boy Advance, Snow Land takes place in an icy winter wonderland, with penguins sliding around the track. Like some other tracks with ice on them, karts have slightly less traction when on ice. The track has a relatively simple layout, coming from the GBA.

Mushroom Gorge - Wii

Mushroom Gorge - Wii

Mushroom Gorge first appeared in Mario Kart Wii. This track takes place in a grassy mountain area, with multiple gorges filled with giant mushrooms. These mushrooms are bouncy, and you need to race across multiple mushroom tops in multiple areas.

Sky-High Sundae - New/Tour

Sky-High Sundae - New/Tour

Sky-High Sundae is technically an original map for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The map will be appearing in Mario Kart Tour at a later date, so it's technically a Mario Kart Tour track but also this is its first appearance. The course takes place on a massive ice cream paradise, floating in the air. The map features tons of jumps and anti-gravity areas.

London Loop - Tour

London Loop - Tour

Originally released for Mario Kart Tour, London Loop features a race around the heart of London with familiar landmarks like the Big Ben. Similar to other Tour maps, London Loop features an interwoven track that changes its path each lap. There are also a bunch of Chain Chomps in London Loop that get let loose on the final lap of the map.

Boo Lake - GBA

Boo Lake - GBA

From Mario Kart Circuit, Boo Lake features a night time course centered around a spooky lake. This track takes place exclusively on a wooden pier in the center of the lake, but half of the track is underwater. While the atmosphere is fairly spooky, Boo Lake doesn't have as many Boos as you might expect.

Rock Rock Mountain - 3DS

Rock Rock Mountain - 3DS

Rock Rock Mountain from Mario Kart 7 takes place on the side of some steep cliffs, high above the clouds. The inside part of the track has you head down the mountain, navigating massive trees, a few of which have fallen. Lastly, you must head back up the mountain, driving head on against falling boulders.

Maple Treeway - Wii

Maple Treeway - Wii

Perhaps one of the more iconic tracks from Mario Kart Wii, Maple Treeway features an autumn forest, where you must race across the treetops. The map opens with a launcher that sends you to the top of Maple Treeway, where you must make your way down, avoiding Wigglers.

Berlin Byways - Tour

Berlin Byways - Tour

Like many of the original tracks for Mario Kart Tour, Berlin Byways is inspired by the real-life city it's named after. Despite the real-world city, this track is covered in classic Mario obstacles, like a myriad of Thwomps and Whomps. This track weaves through parks, subways, and waterfront bridges, changing the path of the race each lap.

Peach Gardens - DS

Peach Gardens - DS

Another classic track, Peach Gardens from the Nintendo DS features a track with wide-open sections that runs through the garden at Peach's Castle. You will need to avoid a variety of differently shaped bushes and the Chain Chomps guarding them. The final lap of Peach Gardens in this version reverses the direction of the race, having players do it in the opposite direction.

Merry Mountain - Tour

Merry Mountain - Tour

Merry Mountain originates from Mario Kart Tour, but isn't based on a real-world city. Instead Merry Mountain features a festive track, decked out in holiday decorations like massive candy canes, Christmas trees, and more. This winter wonderland takes racers up a snowy mountain before descending back down.

Rainbow Road - 3DS

Rainbow Road - 3DS

While there is no shortage of Rainbow Road courses throughout the Mario Kart franchise to choose from, the Mario Kart 7 version of the iconic map features a number of asteroids and planets intertwined with the track. This version of Rainbow Road is a point-to-point race, with a few detours off the rainbow track onto some asteroids and planet rings.

Amsterdam Drift - Tour

Amsterdam Drift - Tour

Amsterdam Drift, which originally appeared in Mario Kart Tour, takes you through the main section of the city, while also showing off some iconic parts of the Netherlands. The main scratch of track, which keeps the Tour tradition of changing each lap, takes you through the heart of the city, while occasionally breaking out into the more lush windmill- and tulip-adorned countryside. The track also takes you into the Amsterdam canal, featuring a large underwater section.

Riverside Park - GBA

Riverside Park - GBA

Riverside Park, which first appeared on the GBA, is heavily inspired by Donkey Kong Country. This track takes place in a dark forest next to a river, with vine covered trees in the surrounding area. The final section of the track takes you inside a mountain, which you exit by jumping through a waterfall. It also features walking Piranha Plants, carrying items with them that they drop when hit by an item or racer.

DK Summit - Wii

DK Summit - Wii

DK Summit from Mario Kart Wii transforms a Black Diamond ski trail into a race track. Presumably owned by Donkey Kong, the race starts with you ascending the mountain via a barrel cannon--because a ski lift would be boring--before making your way back down the track. There are plenty of obstacles, jumps, and snowboarders along the way, making for one of the more difficult Mario Kart tracks.

Yoshi's Island

Yoshi's Island

Yoshi's Island is a brand-new track, inspired by the game of the same name. This track starts in the autumn-colored hills, before traveling into an underground cavern. From there you ascend into the clouds, before flying back down to start the next lap. This track is filled with characters and enemies from Yoshi's Island and uses music from the game, making for an excellent experience.

Bangkok Rush - Tour

Bangkok Rush - Tour

Bangkok Rush, another Mario Kart Tour track, features the capital city of Thailand. This track features multiple stretches of street vendors, along with more industrialized shopping zones and magnificent looking capitol buildings. There is also an overhead train running through sections of the map, as well as a parking garage you jump off of on the final lap.

Mario Circuit - DS

Mario Circuit - DS

The Nintendo DS version of Mario Circuit feels more like a race track inspired by Mario games then a racetrack with Mario's name on, like some of the more modern versions. This track features Peach's Castle overlooking it, with grassy hills and a gloomy forest to drive through. There are also Piranha Plants that shoot fireballs at racers and a Wiggler that roams the forest section.

Waluigi Stadium - Gamecube

Waluigi Stadium - Gamecube

Waluigi Stadium from Mario Kart: Double Dash feels ripped straight out of the X Games. This muddy track takes place within some type of sports stadium, feeling far more constructed than other tracks. There are tire stacks and construction vehicles lining the sides of the track. There are also fake Piranha Plants coming out of fake pipes.

Singapore Speedway - Tour

Singapore Speedway - Tour

Singapore Speedway, coming from Mario Kart Tour like all other real world location-based tracks, provides a journey through the massive city. There are plenty of skyscrapers surrounding the track, but there are more focused areas too, like a lantern filled cultural district. The track also includes sections featuring the more architecturally impressive parts of Singapore as well.

Athens Dash - Mario Kart Tour

Athens Dash - Mario Kart Tour

Originally released for Mario Kart Tour, Athens Dash takes place in Greece. Despite being set in the modern version of Athens, the majority of this track takes place in ancient ruins, with massive golden statues and an amphitheater as major highlights. A brief detour on the third lap takes racers across modern rooftops.

Daisy Cruiser - Mario Kart Double Dash

Daisy Cruiser - Mario Kart Double Dash

Originally released in Mario Kart Double Dash for the GameCube, Daisy Cruiser takes place entirely on a Daisy-themed cruise liner. The race takes place both on the top deck of the ship, as well as inside of it, including a dining hall where tables full of Mario characters slide back and forth across the room.

Moonview Highway - Mario Kart Wii

Moonview Highway - Mario Kart Wii

First appearing in Mario Kart Wii, Moonview Highway is a nighttime race that takes place on a traffic-filled highway. The first part of the race is on a curvy mountain top, with a steep cliffside. After swerving around that section, the rest of the map takes place in a neon-lit city. This race features bomb cars everywhere, which explode upon impact with a racer or item.

Squeaky Clean Sprint

Squeaky Clean Sprint

A brand-new track made for Mario Kart 8, Squeaky Clean Sprint sees miniature versions of the racers drift around a massive bathroom. This track takes you across a messy countertop, into a massive bathtub's drain, and across a soap-covered floor.

Los Angeles Laps - Mario Kart Tour

Los Angeles Laps - Mario Kart Tour

Pulled from Mario Kart Tour, Los Angeles Laps squeezes as many familiar Los Angeles sites into a single track as it can. The race starts on a boardwalk and quickly transitions over to the beach, which has a small skate park in it. The track also features a legally distinct Dodgers Stadium to jump over, a few city streets, and an industrial park.

Sunset Wilds - Game Boy Advance

Sunset Wilds - Game Boy Advance

From Mario Kart Super Circuit, Sunset Wilds is one of the more simply designed courses, but its aesthetic makes it memorable. Sunset Wilds takes place in a red desert, with cacti lining the sides of the track and Shy Guys strapped with mining gear found in one spot. A very old-west inspired soundtrack adds to the classic western feeling.

Koopa Cape - Mario Kart Wii

Koopa Cape - Mario Kart Wii

Originally from Mario Kart Wii, Koopa Cape is a mix between an oceanside river ride and a full-blown water park. The first section features a rapid river, which increases your speed if you can stay on it. The second section features an underwater tube, which in the Wii version of the track was completely enclosed, but is now open and a full-on underwater section.

Vancouver Velocity - Mario Kart Tour

Vancouver Velocity - Mario Kart Tour

Another Mario Kart Tour track, Vancouver Velocity features one of Canada's major cities. This track packs a ton of landmarks into a single track, with oceanside views and snowy mountains in the distance. The track itself goes through parks, downtown areas, and even into a filled hockey stadium, with Shy Guys skating around.

Rome Avanti - Tour

Rome Avanti - Tour

From Mario Kart Tour, Rome Avanti takes place at dusk, showing off some of the iconic spots of the city. It features the brick-paved streets, elaborate fountains, and classic architecture you would expect from Rome. It also includes a Chain Chomp-filled Colosseum along with the changing paths each lap that Tour is known for.

DK Mountain - Gamecube

DK Mountain - Gamecube

One of the most iconic Mario Kart: Double Dash tracks, DK Mountain features a downhill sprint, starting from the top of a massive volcano. It starts with a barrel cannon that sends you to the top, before flying down the mountain side and through the jungle.

Daisy Circuit - Wii

Daisy Circuit - Wii

From the Nintendo Wii, Daisy Circuit is a simple track that takes place in a waterfront plaza. It features giant statues of Daisy and Luigi, along with their baby versions. It also has a pier, with a lighthouse on it and you can see the Daisy Cruiser off in the distance.

Piranha Plant Cove

Piranha Plant Cove

Piranha Plant Cove makes its debut in Mario Kart 8, featuring a mostly underwater map. It takes place in the ruins of an ancient Piranha Plant civilization, including sunken pyramids. There are plenty of underwater creatures, including massive eels.

Madrid Drive - Tour

Madrid Drive - Tour

Madrid Drive from Mario Kart Tour takes place in the heart of Madrid, featuring plazas, markets, and lush parks. There are plenty of iconic statues and fountains throughout the map, along with some distinct architecture. There is also a massive stadium to drive through, featuring giant soccer ball obstacles.

Rosalina's Ice World - 3DS

Rosalina's Ice World - 3DS

Rosalina's Ice World from the Nintendo 3DS shares many features with the other snow levels, but has a dash of Mario Galaxy mixed in. It features plenty of Luma inspired lights and giant stars, along with a Mario Galaxy planet spinning above you. The track itself is fairly simple, consisting of mostly one big straight section, but it has personality.

Bowser's Castle 3 - SNES

Bowser's Castle 3 - SNES

Bowser's Castle 3 from the SNES is a fairly simple track, featuring a stone castle. The track has a few improvements, like some upward ramps not originally presented and the surrounding lava and lava waterfalls gives this map an oppressing feeling.

Rainbow Road - Wii

Rainbow Road - Wii

Every Mario Kart features a Rainbow Road, but the Wii version has a special place in the series. This course features plenty of curves and chaotic jumps, but the design of the track itself is beautiful and the Mario Galaxy star bits floating around really make this one stand out.

Complete list of all Mario Kart Tour tracks (2023)

Courses have up to four unique variations

Provided by YouTube via Nintendo Mobile   New York Minute debuted during the game’s first-ever tour, the New York Tour.

With hundreds of playable characters and ever-changing content blocks known as tours, the mobile game Mario Kart Tour diverts from the traditional formula of Mario Kart games in many ways. The same can be said of the playable race tracks in Mario Kart Tour.

Like other Mario Kart games, this one has a mix of new and returning courses . However, this game stands out by adding a number of special variants for its courses. Here’s a complete list of all of the Mario Kart Tour tracks as of the Winter Tour (2023).

New tracks in Mario Kart Tour

With every new tour, the developers introduce additional race tracks into Mario Kart Tour. There are more than 100 courses in total, although several of them take place in the same environment. Many of the new tracks are based on real-world locations.

Here are all of the city courses that draw their inspiration from the real world:

Mario Kart Tour also introduced a handful of remix courses, which share elements with old-school tracks but have their own unique layouts and stage hazards. Here’s an overview of the new remix courses:

  • RMX Choco Island 2
  • RMX Rainbow Road 1
  • RMX Rainbow Road 2
  • RMX Vanilla Lake 1

Finally, there are a handful of completely original courses in Mario Kart Tour that are not city courses. These include Ninja Highway and Merry Mountain. Sky-High Sundae is also labeled as a new track, although it technically debuted in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe shortly before it made its way to Mario Kart Tour. Meanwhile, there is only a single new battle course in the game: New York Minute B.

Returning Mario Kart courses

Mario and Luigi on Sky Garden, one of the returning tracks in Mario Kart Tour

Meanwhile, like traditional Mario Kart games, Mario Kart Tour features several returning tracks from past games. In fact, more than half of the courses in this game originated in a previous Mario Kart title.

Notably, new and returning tracks alike can have up to three different variants alongside their standard versions. As a result, the total number of unique track layouts in the game is actually closer to 400.

All courses have a Reverse variation, where racers must drive around the track backward. They also have a Trick variation, which adds new obstacles like ramps and Kanaami Roads to each map. Finally, there are Reverse/Trick variations which add together the elements of the above two variations.

Here are all of the returning tracks in Mario Kart Tour:

  4. My Opinions on the Rumored "Bathroom Track" : r/mariokart

1: It would be too short. A bathroom isn't that big. And yes, I know Baby Park exists, but that wouldn't work. You could argue that you could go down a toilet, but I don't think they are going to make that half the track. 2: Nintendo censorship.
