Your travel agent work experience bullet points

While the job description is a priceless source of insight when it comes to what the company’s looking for, recruiters want to see your ability to solve problems and overcome obstacles.

In other words, don’t just repeat the job requirements as experience points. Frame your experiences as “Here’s how I did this!” and not “Yeah, I can do that.” Look at the organization’s website if you need additional inspiration for current obstacles that are similar to issues you’ve solved before, and set your success off with active verbs and language.

And don’t forget to substantiate your awesome work experience with metrics! Quantifiable data can transform the credibility of your travel agent resume, especially since you work with so much of it each time you budget for a trip or organize notes for an itinerary.

  • ROI improvements show your ability to optimize travel budgets
  • Savings in dollars highlight your budgets skills, too, alongside your ability to boost profits
  • Increased return percentages demonstrate how you keep clients coming back next trip!
  • Positive customer feedback ratings show off your soft skills and professionalism

See what we mean?

  • Reduced customer complaints by 17% through proactive customer engagement and issue resolution
  • Collaborated with the sales team to generate leads that contributed to $252.1K revenue growth
  • Managed a travel budget of $2.4 million, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines and achieving a 98% budget utilization rate
  • Utilized Deem’s expense management system to track and reconcile travel expenses, resulting in a 36-hour reduction in reimbursement processing time

3 Tips for Writing a Travel Agent Resume if You Have Limited Experience

  • If you’re just starting out as a travel agent, you might need an itinerary of your own. Consider using an objective statement on your resume! This concise paragraph should outline why you want the job and provide some excellent scheduling and interpersonal skills that qualify you for it.
  • Of course, you’ll want to mention a degree like Tourism and Hospitality Management, but you can also list relevant accomplishments from school. If you have an excellent GPA, took additional relevant courses, or earned any academic achievements, these can help make up for limited experience.
  • The same idea from our previous tip also applies to internships! Let recruiters know if you completed any internships, similar activities, or even volunteer initiatives related to travel or hospitality. Not every qualification has to be a paid job to still count in your favor!

3 Tips for Writing a Travel Agent Resume if You Already Have Some Experience

  • You don’t want an overcrowded resume any more than you’d want to overbook someone’s travel calendar! You want to have a little breathing room, so limit your work experience section to just three or four of your most relevant jobs.
  • If you’ve had a few years of experience as a travel agent, consultant, or similar role, you don’t need to depend as much on academic experiences for credibility. Focus more on your professional achievements in the workforce and highlight examples of how you’ve overcome relevant obstacles!
  • Now’s a good time to weigh the pros and cons of a resume summary . If you’ve had plenty of experience in one role (or several similar ones), you might be able to eliminate some redundancy and tie it all together with a summary. But if you have many diverse experiences demonstrating your prowess, you might not need one.

We know it can be tough, but keep to a one-page resume ! You probably have loads of stories to share about how you knocked that one travel budget out of the water, but recruiters crave brevity. If you’re having trouble staying within the one-page limit, set some experiences aside for a cover letter.

Your metrics should fortify the final impact of your skills. What results did you create with your ability to book flights quickly and find the perfect little Airbnb just in time? Look for quantifiable data that strengthens your final point and avoid free-floating numbers like headcounts or booking quantities.

Yes, please! Whether you have just one or several, include additional credentials like a Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) or a Certified Cruise Counselor (CCC). Not only do they emphasize your industry niche, but they demonstrate your ambition as well.

Travel agents: How much do they make?

According to payscale , the average base salary of a travel agent is $40,000. It could vary from $30,000 to $60,000 based on the candidate's experience.

However, a candidate with a lucrative client portfolio would negotiate higher pay and incentives.

What Makes an Outstanding Travel Agent Resume?

All the hours you spent making your resume would be in vain if you didn’t know the answer.

What makes an outstanding travel agent resume – from the recruiters’ point of view?

The format is simple. You need to keep your resume short, follow the general resume writing standards, and convince them that you’ll be the best person for the job.

Before start writing the resume, we will quickly look at how to choose the right layout, format, and relevant keywords for the travel agent position.

Travel agent resume layout

Writing your layout first makes it easy to find the information for your resume while also helping you understand and optimize the space requirement.

The layout defines the headings and subheadings on the resume.

Here’s the layout we suggest for a travel agent resume:

  • Header with your name and contact information.
  • Professional summary.
  • Work history.
  • Additional sections (certificates, languages, and interests).

Travel agent resume format

When you’re writing your experience section – the most critical component of your resume, you’ll realize you have a couple of ways to write it.

The format specifies the sequence in which you'll write your experience section.

These are 3 standard resume formats in use:

  • Reverse chronological format : This is the most common resume format in use. Your most recent experience will be listed first in this format.
  • Functional (skill-based) format: Start with your key skills, and then list your relevant experience under those skills.
  • Hybrid format: This is a combination of both reverse chronological and functional resume formats.

We recommend using a reverse chronological resume format for all travel agent resumes regardless of the level of experience. One reason is that the hiring managers are most interested in your recent work experience. Another reason is that this format is quite common, and the hiring managers are familiar with it.

Relevant keywords for travel agent resumes

Travel and tourism companies receive hundreds of applications for their job openings, making it challenging for both the applicants and the recruitment teams.

Companies nowadays use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to shortlist candidate applications. Only applications that are shortlisted through the system will be checked manually.

If your resume is not capable of passing the ATS, it will never even reach the hiring manager.

The ATS do the shortlisting with a simple code where they check the content on your resume – cross-check with the job description and the other keywords your hiring team feeds into it.

To pass the ATS test, your resume needs to have a decent number of relevant keywords for the job.

The job advertisement is the best place to start keyword research for your resume. If the job application of a particular company is not strong enough, you can find many quality job descriptions on LinkedIn jobs.

We also have a complete guide on using keywords on your resume if you need more information.

Write Your Header to Start Your Travel Agent Resume

In the resume header, you should write your name and contact information.

There’re a couple of possible mistakes a candidate could make in this section which we have highlighted with the following examples:

Travel agent

Washington DC,

Here’re a few guidelines for writing a perfect resume header:

  • Start with the name – write your first and last names.
  • Write the job title you’re applying for.
  • Write down the best email and mobile number to contact you.
  • Do not add your full mailing address.
  • If you are active on LinkedIn, put the link to your account.

Write a Professional Summary to Capture the Hiring Manager's Eye

Every time you meet a client to sell a tour package, you’ll have a sales pitch ready, right?

And most importantly, you don’t use the same sales pitch to every client you meet. You tailor it to their requirement.

Your professional summary on your resume is similar to a sales pitch you write to the hiring manager. It should grab their attention in a couple of sentences and convince them to read your resume further. Also, your professional summary should be tailored to the different companies and positions you apply for.

Here’re some examples:

A passionate travel agent with more than 5 years of experience in domestic and international travel arrangements seek to join LeisureWorld to utilize my expertise and connections to grow the company's client accounts. At TravelDeals, managed leisure and business clients to generate $1.3 million last year with a 12% year-on-year growth.

Highly motivated travel agent with experience in the field, working with many clients to plan their travel arrangements around the world, from flight booking to hotel booking and leisure arrangements. Passionate about joining a new company as a travel agent to continue growing my career.

Rather than writing a generic summary, be specific in your statements – use numbers and add specific information about your achievements and accomplishments to arouse interest.

Write an objective summary for entry-level jobs

If you’re applying for your first job as a travel agent, you may consider writing an objective summary. There’s no difference in the structure of the summary. However, the objective summary simply highlights your academic and professional qualifications together with your passion for the industry.

A passionate travel agent with a degree in tourism successfully completed an internship in a startup generating $150k in sales last year with corporate travel arrangements for tech companies. Seek to advance my career at Booking.com in their corporate sector by utilizing my client service and networking experience.

An enthusiastic individual with a degree in tourism and an internship in a travel agency seeks to join a corporate travel agency environment to advance my career. I am confident that my knowledge in the industry would add value to becoming a high-performing travel agent in no time.

Leave a Lasting Impression with a Strong Travel Agent Experience Section

How you write your experience section significantly defines how you communicate your fit to the role, whether you’re an experienced candidate or just starting out.

Experience for an entry-level candidate? Yes, you heard it right.

You can’t just keep this section blank, even if you are just starting out. Remember, even if you have zero experience in travel or tourism, you should write your other experience, internships, or project work and how those skills you developed during your work add value to the new role.

The worst mistake you could make here is to write a list of roles & responsibilities from a travel agent job description. No hiring manager is interested in reading that.

If you want to write an experience section that stands out from the rest of the applicants and helps you negotiate better pay at an interview, focus on writing your key achievements and accomplishments in your previous work.

Refer to the following examples:

Experience section for a senior travel agent

Start each sentence with action verbs such as managed, led, developed, carried out, etc.

The Top Skills for Your travel agent Resume

To work as a travel agent, you need to possess a set of specific skills. Some of them are technical skills, while others are soft skills.

Identify the right skills to list on your resume. If you do not have a particular technical skill that you find essential for the job, consider acquiring it. There’re plenty of resources online where you can learn these.

Write about 5 to 7 key skills in this section.

Soft Skills for travel agents

  • Written communication skills
  • Verbal communication skills
  • Decision making
  • Leadership skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Destination research
  • Problem-solving
  • Active listening
  • Adaptability

  • Ticket booking systems
  • Reservations management
  • Travel insurance management

Additional Sections for a travel agent Resume

From the beginning, we didn't want to create just another resume. We wanted to make one that is better than 95% of other travel agent resumes – one that you will get 10 times more interviews – one that you can confidently negotiate better pay.

To do that, writing a couple of additional sections that grab the hiring manager's attention is important.

These sections make your resume noticed by the recruiter on the first read.

Here are some examples of additional sections for travel agents:

  • Computer skills & certifications
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Awards & media recognition

Computing skills & Certifications

A travel agent gets to work with many computer systems and software. Having a basic understanding of computer programs and how to learn new software would be a valuable skill. If you have completed any course or program about basic computer skills, you may list it here.

In addition, there are highly targeted skill certifications for travel agents. Some of these are industry specific, while others are mandatory requirements to work as a travel agent in certain jurisdictions. Check what skill certifications are recognized by your employer.

Here are some valuable skill certifications for travel agents:

  • Travel and Tourism Professional (TTP)
  • Travel Agent Executive (TAE)
  • Certified Travel Counselor (CTC)
  • Certified Destination Specialist (CDS)

We have seen hiring managers referring to some candidates as “that candidate who speaks French”. No hiring manager mentions a candidate with a degree in travel & tourism because everyone has it.

Your language skills are precious to working as a travel agent as you’ll be working with people who speak different languages.

For certain travel agent positions, proficiency in some languages would be mandatory.

When listing your languages section, state the level of proficiency in each language so the hiring manager gets a clear idea about your skill.

Here is an example:

English Native

French Fluent

Spanish Intermediate

If you’re writing your interests on the resume, make sure those skills set you apart and are relevant to the job.

Do not put any information that doesn’t add value to your profile.

More Tips to Improve Your travel agent Resume

  • Don't rely on your instincts – use Grammarly to proofread your resume.
  • Mention the courses you have taken and completed. State a possible completion day for those which are not yet completed.
  • Your experience in sales – skills in communication and negotiation are key for success as a travel agent. Demonstrate them throughout.
  • Use a modern resume template to create the travel agent resume.

Write a Cover Letter that Complements Your Resume

The success of a travel agent application is not all about the resume – there’s one more component to it: the cover letter.

A cover letter is a one-page document that showcases the candidate’s interest in the position. In this, the candidate's key skills, experience, and career objectives should be highlighted.

Also, if there’s a specific reason for you to apply for the organization, that would be a valuable addition to the letter. However, make sure the content is authentic.

Keep your cover letter to about half a page with 3 or 4 short paragraphs. Pages-long cover letters are not a thing in today’s recruiting, and hiring managers don’t have time for it anyway.

Including a cover letter in your application is always safe, even if that is not explicitly mentioned in the job advertisement.

If you’re overwhelmed by the amount of work trying to apply for multiple jobs writing tailored cover letters, try our cover letter builder for a change. You can create stunning cover letters with the same template you used to create your resume within a few minutes.

What does a travel agent do?

Travel agents plan and execute travel arrangements for tourists and corporate clients. Some travel agents provide a complete travel solution, including all related services such as flight booking, hotel booking, car rental, cruise rental, event planning, excursions, budgeting, and consulting. Certain travel agents provide only specific travel services.

How to get my first job as a travel agent?

Travel agents need knowledge of the travel and tourism industry and experience in sales. If you have a high school diploma, you can become a travel agent by gaining experience in the field. A bachelor’s degree in a related field would be an advantage for your career.

Further, there’re highly demanding skill certifications that could give you a head start.

Even if you do not have travel & tourism industry experience, your experience in sales or hospitality could also be used to convince a hiring manager. When applying for a travel agent job, you should prepare an impressive resume and a cover letter tailored to the job you're applying for.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

  • Include 6-12 skills, in bullet point form
  • List mostly hard skills ; soft skills are hard to test
  • Emphasize the skills that are most important for the job

Hard skills are generally more important to hiring managers because they relate to on-the-job knowledge and specific experience with a certain technology or process.

Soft skills are also valuable, as they're highly transferable and make you a great person to work alongside, but they're impossible to prove on a resume.

Example of skills to include on an travel agent resume

4. List your travel agent experience

The most important part of any resume for a travel agent is the experience section. Recruiters and hiring managers expect to see your experience listed in reverse chronological order, meaning that you should begin with your most recent experience and then work backwards.

Don't just list your job duties below each job entry. Instead, make sure most of your bullet points discuss impressive achievements from your past positions. Whenever you can, use numbers to contextualize your accomplishments for the hiring manager reading your resume.

It's okay if you can't include exact percentages or dollar figures. There's a big difference even between saying "Managed a team of travel agents" and "Managed a team of 6 travel agents over a 9-month project. "

Most importantly, make sure that the experience you include is relevant to the job you're applying for. Use the job description to ensure that each bullet point on your resume is appropriate and helpful.

Travel Consultant Resume Skills Section Checklist:

  • Match your hard skills to the job description;
  • Add keywords to pass applicant tracking systems;
  • Don’t list soft skills such as ’teamwork’ – rather, mention how they’ve helped you gain success in some other sections of your Travel Consultant resume;
  • List only skills you actually have, keep lying out of the picture.

Making a strong first impression:

  • Keep your summary section short and easy to read; avoid long sentences;
  • Highlight your total years of experience in the field;
  • Mention 1-2 of your biggest achievements and strengths;
  • Add a couple of keywords from the job advert.

Resume summary formula:

Your summary section should act as a professional taster. Use it wisely. Effectively convey your professional profile and let the hiring manager know that if they hire you, they won’t be disappointed. Make sure to include keywords from the job description too! Elaborate on your abilities further in your experience section. Again, cater to the job description.

  • How To Write An Effective Resume Profile (With Examples)

The content of your resume is necessary for showcasing your expertise, skills, and education. Great formatting, on the other hand, is essential for highlighting your attention to detail, creativity, and ability to stand out.

There are three basic resume formats to choose from:

  • Reverse-chronological resume format ;
  • Functional skills-based resume format ;
  • Combination (or Hybrid) resume format .

Which one of these you choose depends on a couple of things, but most importantly: the industry and your level of experience.

The reverse-chronological resume format, for example, is great if you’re a Travel Consultant with many years of experience and no career gaps. It doesn’t really matter if your company of choice is a multinational corporation or an early-stage startup – this resume format is considered to be a safe bet.

If you’re someone with little or no experience, however, we advise you to go for a functional skills-based resume format. It focuses on skills, competencies, and education, rather than experience. This makes it great for entry-level applicants, career changers, and graduate students.

And if you’re tired of traditional formats and want to go over the top when it comes to your application, the combination or hybrid resume format is here to help. Here, you can focus on both your experience and your skills, there’s even space for you to highlight your most spectacular personality traits. If you want to give a modern feel to your Travel Consultant resume, this resume format is just what you need. Add a ‘my life philosophy’ section for additional bonus points!

hybrid (combination) resume format built on Enhancv platform

Check out our additional tips on perfecting your Travel Consultant resume’s style and layout :

  • Choose traditional 1-inch resume margins ;
  • Go for a serif or sans serif resume font that’s easy to read yet looks professional (e.g. Arial, Verdana, or Calibri);
  • Keep your Travel Consultant resume short : one-page template are preferable, but if you have over 10 years of experience, you can also go for a two-page format ;
  • Save your resume as PDF and choose a suitable name, e.g. NameSurnameResume;

Our classic tours include tours of Moscow and Saint Petersburg, two main Russian cities.

Moscow is a big and busy  megalopolis and Russia’s capital city, where more than 12 million people live and work. Our capital city is happening place; it is mysterious, elegant, luxurious, fashionable, clean and bright, with its unique legends, traditions and events. It is with great pride that we show the Red Square and the Kremlin, our Underground and Tretyakovskaya Gallery, among other stunning attractions.

Saint Petersburg is our second capital,  the second largest city in the Russian Federation. This wonderful city has a strong and lively aristocratic spirit, uniquely Russian royal architecture, magnificent museums and theatres. Saint Petersburg bears the royal heritage of Russia, which can be felt in its air, its streets, parks, monuments, museums and citizens.  In Saint Petersburg tours, we will take you to the Hermitage, Peter and Paul Fortress, Faberge Museum and Orthodox Cathedrals. We’re sure you will love it!

If you have a few more days to spare, venture into the dreamy Russian countryside in Suzdal or Sergiev Posad. Suzdal is a small town with a population of about ten thousand people, situated on less than 15 square kilometres. This tiny area is home to 53 historic cathedrals, five monasteries and a kremlin. Church domes are visible like mushrooms from anywhere and everywhere in the town like in a fairy tale. No wonder Suzdal is called the ‘Town Museum”.  It is definitely worth visiting!

Our people adore and take care of visitors as our own guests, and even if they do not know your language very well, they still try to be helpful and hospitable.

Our guides will show you the most interesting attractions and historical places, taking you on a journey to the past to enjoy stories of medieval times, the Romanov monarchy, the Soviet Era. And of course, we will show you the contemporary life of our country through authentic local experiences.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
