Mostly I find this Journey Into Mystery run of Thor stories to be annoying. Take this one - Dr. Zaxton, a colleague of Dr. Blake's (can't imagine he'll end up being a villain with a name like Zaxton) creates a duplicator ray. He duplicates Thor. The evil twin threatens Thor, but ultimately that evil Thor turns out to be a paper Tiger, because he doesn't have the power of Thor (this after we've been seeing him use the powers of Thor for several pages). Then there's the matter of all the duplicat...

So Journey Into Mystery is on a two comic one star streak. Will this one improve upon it’s terrible predecessors or will it follow them into the one star wasteland? Read on to find out as Thor battles his most dangerous foe of all, himself. There’s a lot wrong with this issue. Firstly the first page spoils who the creator of the duplicate Thor is, taking any sense of narrative twist out of the story. Then there are numerous examples of the overpowered inventions of the week, which wou...

As if the cover depicting Thor against his latest threat, "a far more powerfulyourself" isn't enough amongst the splash page showing that this duplicate Thor is not to be taken lightly because he has two hammers, the following twelve pages do nothing to lift the now flailing wildly without direction series Journey into Mystery into some form of pedigree akin to either the Spider-Man or Fantastic 4 stories. Whether it's Thor's powers being used to water crops, or Dr. Blake somehow making an invin...

Journey into mystery #95: the demon duplicator’s.
for today’s comic book review i read Thor’s story from Journey Into Mystery #95 it is titled “The Mighty Thor Faces The Menace Of.. The Demon duplicator’s!” , in this tale, Thor faces a duplicate of himself, who has two hammer’s and is thus twice as powerful.
But the real question would be, is twice the number of Thor’s twice as good? or is two, one too many. and an interesting question indeed.
Review of the comic book’s Story
Sometimes a story rubs you wrong at the beginning, and never recovers, for me this is one of those stories. Early on, Thor is helping demonstrate with the aid of another scientist an invention of Dr. Don Blake.
I have not minded the medical breakthrough’s of the MD, but this invention is just too far of a stretch for me to accept. Beyond that, I found the characters to be weak in this issue; it is also way to similar to last months Journey Into Mystery .
Review of the comic book’s Artwork
Where the story was majorly lacking, I feel Joe Sinnott did a passable job with the artwork. making the bad story at least look OK. This however does not at all make up for the lack of a good story, and in fact, i feel the story does even hurt the artwork in some panel’s
Characters & Development
Gods of asgard.
The one aspect of this story that showed promise, was the peaceful visit to Asgard where Thor is there to use his powers to help his fellow god’s. this shows us how the god’s of Asgard depend upon each other in the marvel universe. I look forward to seeing more of them in the issues to come
Thor’s Alter Ego Don Blake
I already said this, but I will close the review by repeating it. I feel they need to let don Blake stick to medical science, as this was a major stretch for me, it would have been a stretch even for Mr. Fantastic, but impossible for Dr. Blake.
Comic Book Review Summery
I think you can tell if you read the whole review up to this point, that this comic book is worth tossing into the skip pile, there was few merits to the issue, and i suspect few lasting consequences.

Synopsis for "Defying the Magic of... Mad Merlin!"
Thor overhears a shore crew state that they are unloading the sarcophagus of the legendary Merlin. He wonders what it would be like if Merlin were alive today. Then entering his office window, Thor returns to his identity of Dr. Don Blake. He emerges from his office to be scolded by his nurse Jane Foster because he has been ignoring his patients for over an hour. He could not tell her he was busy saving a bus load of people who fell off a bridge into the river.
At the museum, Merlin's sarcophagus is opened to reveal his body still in perfect condition. As soon as the workers leave, Merlin awakens and recalls how he used to use his mutant powers of telepathy, levitation and teleportation to fake magic. Reading a newspaper he learns of a missile test at Cape D'or and uses his powers to send the missile off course.
Alerted by a radio broadcast, Thor arrives and corrects the missile's course. He then goes to Asgard to see if the imprisoned Loki is behind the mishap. Loki reveals that Merlin is the one responsible. Thor heads to the museum to check out Loki's claim.
But Merlin has teleported himself to Washington DC, where he enters the White House to try to take the country from President Kennedy. Thor arrives, and a battle follows with Merlin using the Washington Monument as a super-lance and animating the statue from the Lincoln Memorial.
Their powers evenly matched, Thor decides to take a gamble. He strikes his hammer, returning to the form of Blake. He then convinces Merlin that he is a shape shifter and able to became thousands of more powerful forms. He orders Merlin to return to his sarcophagus for another 1000 years.
Later, in the operating room, Jane comments that when it comes to the operating table, Dr Blake is a magician.

Synopsis for "Frederick Fenton's Future"
This story has basically the same plot as "The Last Man on Earth" in Amazing Adult Fantasy Vol 1 7 just swapping a time machine for a bomb shelter as the 'mechanism of isolation'. The protagonist thinks to himself that he can simply reset the time machine to a period before humanity left Earth, but then realizes in the post-industrial ruins there is no electricity, and so he sets out to build an electrical generator in the years he has left to him.
- Sequence 1 Defying the Magic of... Mad Merlin! plot by Lee, script by Bernstein (credited as R. Berns).
- Despite his claims in the issue, the "Merlin" featured here is later revealed not to be the legendary wizard who served in Arthur's court. He is instead a mutated human who later reappears under the name Maha Yogi . He possesses a fragment of the Bloodgem , which grants the wearer immortality. The real Merlin first appeared in Young Allies #11 .

Slabbed sales data, covrprice’s take on comic values.
A comic is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. With this in mind, CovrPrice only displays actual sales data (taken across multiple online marketplaces… not just eBay) to help you better determine the best value for your comics.
GRAPH - Total Graded Averages
Our goal for this graph is to show overall sales trends for officially graded comics. Here we take the average for each condition and display it as a data point. To see the most recent sales data for each condition be sure to look at the individual sales data listed in the tables below.
WHY ARE SOME SALES MISSING?
“I sold a comic last week, why isn’t it showing up on your site?”
At CovrPrice, we capture tens of thousands of sales DAILY. It’s simply impossible for a human to determine the authenticity of every sale coming our way. (Trust us, we’ve tried) To ensure the quality of our data we error on the side of caution, valuing accuracy over quantity. We only integrate sales for comics that our robots are confident are correct. While we don’t capture 100% of every sale in the market we’re getting closer and closer to that goal. If you think we missed a sale that you want to be entered into CovrPrice just contact us at [email protected] with information about the sale and our humans will investigate and add it for you.
HOW CAN I HELP COVRPICE CAPTURE MY SALES?
That’s easy, when listing your comics for sale on 3rd party marketplaces be sure you include the following: Comic Title, Issue #, Issue Year, Variant Info (usually the cover artists last name), and Grade info.
For example Captain Marvel #1 (2015) - Hughes Variant - CGC 9.8
This will help our robots better identify and sort your sales more accurately.
Raw Sales Data
Conditions info for raw comics.
We’re working hard to provide you with more information about the raw sales data we capture. When we’re able to determine the condition/grade of a raw comic, we’ll list that grade in blue next to the sale. Please Note: Since raw condition information comes from the seller’s listing itself, it should be viewed as subjective. However, if a seller states a comic is a 9.8 and a buyer buys it, one might infer that the buyer was in fact willing to pay that amount for that condition.
WHY DO YOU SHOW RAW VALUES?
Ummm… cause we’re awesome. Also, most comic collections are made up of non-graded comics. Don’t get us wrong, grading is a great way to preserve and authenticate the condition of your comic, but it’s also important to know what the other 95% of your raw collection is worth. That’s why we do all the leg work and show both graded and raw values.
At CovrPrice, we capture tens of thousands of sales DAILY. It’s simply impossible for a human to determine the authenticity of every sale coming our way. (Trust us, we’ve tried) To ensure the quality of our data we error on the side of caution, valuing accuracy over quantity. How to Read the COVRPRICE Value Ribbon
Our goal is to provide our members with the closest FMV (fair market value) for all the comics in their COVR PRICE collection. Our approach is as follows:
1) If no condition info is entered for a comic, we will show you the FMV for the most common condition of that comic.
2) If you’ve entered condition info, we will show you the FMV for that specific condition, when it’s available.
3) If that specific condition has no sale values available, we will show you the FMV for the most common condition of that comic (either raw or slabbed)
This approach helps to ensure that most of your comics have a reasonable value estimate based only on real sales data (not speculation).
The items below show how value information is displayed for raw and slabbed comics on the COVR PRICE value ribbon.
