Tour Edge Hot Launch C521 & E521 drivers

tour edge e521 driver specs

Tour Edge and its Hot Launch line of clubs are one of the undisputed leaders when it comes to offering game improvement technology, custom fitting, and value to golfers of all skill levels. The company is at it again with the introduction of the new 2021 Hot Launch 521 Series, which includes the Hot Launch E521 and Hot Launch C521 drivers.

tour edge e521 driver specs

The Hot Launch E Series offers high-MOI, extreme game improvement designs with a singular focus on delivering easy-to-launch performance, which is built around correcting the most common miss in golf: the dreaded slice.

The Hot Launch C Series is designed for golfers who desire classicly shaped clubs that offer optimal launch and spin rates, while still getting all the benefits of easy to hit, forgiving clubs built around maximizing MOI.

“We see these two series as being the best value available in the custom fitting market and that’s exactly why we created our 48-hour custom fitting delivery guarantee. We want to open up the flood gates to custom fitting to golfers who are looking for the  latest in innovation and extremely high performance at logical prices.”   -David Glod, founder of Tour Edge

To quickly help you understand which driver is the better choice for you, let’s break it down like this.

  • The Hot Launch E521 driver is designed for “Extreme Game Improvement”
  • The Hot Launch C521 driver is built to what Tour Edge calls “Competition Spec” for golfers wanting game improvement performance in a more traditional looking package.

These spec variations can be found through the entire Hot Launch 521 Series in both the E521 and C521 products.

Tour Edge C521 Driver

tour edge e521 driver specs

The “C” in C521 driver stands for “Competition Spec,” but it could also is for “control.” Tour Edge offers that element by reshaping the head and placing more mass low and farther away from the face to achieve an extremely high MOI in what can be considered a traditionally shaped head. According to Tour Edge, compared to the previous HL4, the new C521 has a 12-percent lower and 7-percent farther back CG, which boosts the total MOI improvement by 8 percent. When it comes to engineering new products, any percentage increase greater than 3-4 percent is considered a breakthrough.

“With Hot Launch 521, we were able to achieve MOI that matches drivers in play on the professional tours that cost three to four times more. No one else is doing this with MOI at this price point. The result is fantastic performance with straighter, more accurate drives” – David Glod

Tour Edge E521 Driver

tour edge e521 driver specs

The E521 driver takes game improvement to the limit—and I mean that literally. The E521 is at the USGA limit for front-to-back and heel-to-toe dimensions to maximize forgiveness and boost MOI. To stretch the head to those proportions, the E521 is shallower than the C521, which creates an extremely low center of gravity and makes the driver easier to launch for players at the lower end of the speed spectrum.

tour edge e521 driver specs

It also has something Tour Edge and designer David Glod calls “Houdini Sole,” which reshapes the sole of the driver to save mass and allow it to be concentrated as far back as possible on the trailing edge. According to Tour Edge, this design offers 12-percent higher MOI and a 14-percent lower CG compared to the previous generation HL4 and makes it the most forgiving driver they have ever created.

This puts the E521 into the highest range of stability in the driver market alongside drivers that retail for more than twice the price. As we mentioned off the top, Tour Edge is about offering maximum forgiveness at the highest possible value.

An additional part of the forgiveness story is a familiar one, but when it works it works, and that is offset. It’s not something you find from many OEMs anymore because of adjustable hosels and moveable CGs, but offering an offset driver gives Tour Edge an advantage to help golfers that struggle with the dreaded slice.

“With these shallow faces and offset designs, on top of the higher lofts we offer, the Hot Launch E521 Driver is easily the leader in launch technology in today’s market.” – David Glod

Last but not least, the team at Tour Edge didn’t stop at the head to help produce a club that offers better control—they also looked at the shaft. The E521 driver comes stock with Control Length Shaft Technology, which is a fancy way of saying the stock length is shorter to help improve contact. At 44.5″ it’s only a hair under the PGA Tour’s average length driver to help improve the efficiency of contact and results in overall better driving. Better driving leads to more greens hit, more greens hit leads to fewer putts, and few putts mean lower scores.

Hot Launch 521 Series driver technology

As much as both the C512 and E521 drivers are targetted towards different golfers they do share technologies to offer more consistent ball speeds and increase forgiveness.

Diamond & Cup Face Technology – The diamond face was designed with the help of finite element analysis to simulate energy transfer and helps the drivers produce faster and more consistent ball speeds on off-center hits by placing mass where it’s needed. It features 39 varying thick and thin diamond “mini-trampolines” on the back of the clubface to increase performance.

This technology was previously only available in Tour Edges premium Exotics line, but by bringing it to the Hot Launch series they can offer greater performance at a better value.

“To be able to take an amazing innovation like Diamond Face that changed the level of what we produced with Exotics EXS and to be able to bring it over to Hot Launch is a huge deal for the performance characteristics of these clubs.  This is going to help a lot of golfers gain speed and power.”

Power Channel – The Power Channel sits on the sole of the club behind the clubface to increase overall flex and help boost ball speeds on shots hit lower on the face while also keeping spin down. On the C521 it is 25% deeper than the previous HL4 to improve overall performance.

Acoustic Engineering – The 521 series drivers use the same sound diffusion bars as the Exotics EXS 220 and EXS Pro drivers to improve impact sound, and offer better feedback on shots. It’s a fine balancing act for club designers since they never want to build a driver that offends golfers and has them handing out courtesy earplugs to their playing partners, but go too far the other way and a driver sounds “dead”. The soundbars in the Tour Edge 521 drivers produce an acoustic that is both hot off the face but also solid – think thwack! over Thud!

Price, specs, and availability

Both the C521 and E521 drivers will retail for $229.99. All Tour Edge Hot Launch clubs including the drivers are hand-built in the United States and are part of Tour Edge’s 48-hour custom fitting delivery and lifetime warranty programs.

At the 2019 Players Championship, Rory McIlroy fired a final-round 70 finish at 16 under. After struggling on the opening nine, he outlasted a hard-charging Jim Furyk — who birdied two of his final three holes. McIlroy was one of eight players who held a share of the lead in a wild Sunday finish at Sawgrass, buoyed by the Luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

McIlroy planned to play aggressively off the tee at a greener, softer TPC Sawgrass, saying the following at his pre-tournament press conference

“I think the course over the last 10 years or whatever it’s been in May, it hasn’t lent itself to aggressive play. It’s sort of position and irons off tees and really trying to plot your way around the golf course, where I hit drivers on holes today that I would never have hit driver the last few years. So just to be a little more aggressive, get a shorter club in your hand, and even when you are aggressive and you miss, it’s a touch easier to get yourself back into position.”

The approach paid off. The Ulsterman was second in the field in strokes gained: off the tee at 5.309. He was fifth in the field in driving distance (305 yards). He led the field in strokes gained: tee to green.

What’s the best driver of 2024? This year, we have expanded our panel of expert fitters to help you find which of the 2024 drivers is best for your game, breaking down the candidates by clubhead speed.

In addition to our three swing speed categories, however, we’ve also asked our fitters for their recommendations for the most forgiving drivers for players who prioritize forgiveness above all else.

Last year, we pointed out that we continue to exist in an era of not just maximizing distance but also minimizing the penalty of common misses for each player with the driver. Discretionary weight within the driver is also at an all-time high, so engineers can provide the widest range of performance characteristics in the metalwood era. This is only more true in 2024, with the pursuit of massive MOI (moment of inertia) driving several manufacturers’ offerings. In short, manufacturers are focusing more on forgiveness, and (with respect to MOI) the current crop of drivers is doubtless the most forgiving.

tour edge e521 driver specs

That said, many golfers don’t have easy access to fitters, launch monitors, and club builders — so at GolfWRX, we have done a lot of the work to help you narrow down your short list of best drivers as you test out options for your best driver. We’re doing as much as we can to help you sort out your short list of the most forgiving drivers for testing.

Most forgiving driver of 2024

tour edge e521 driver specs

Ping G430 Max 10K

tour edge e521 driver specs

Ping touts the effects of a 28-gram fixed tungsten backweight working in combination with its 460cc multi-material head in achieving a 10,000 g-cm² measurement. Five grams of weight is saved from a lighter Carbonfly Wrap crown allowing for weight to be pushed to the perimeter of the club for increased forgiveness. The head profile is the largest in Ping history, pushed to the limits of heel-toe and front-back USGA restrictions.

For the full technology breakdown, check out our launch piece.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max

tour edge e521 driver specs

Drawing on the swing dynamics of thousands of real golfers, Callaway developed an all-new Ai Smart Face for its Paradym Ai Smoke drivers. Swing speed, club delivery, and face orientation prior to impact were considered to create club faces catered to optimal launch and tighter dispersion. Engineers targeted face design virtually everywhere across the face to leverage micro deflections for optimal spin on off-center shots struck anywhere on the face. Aimed at the widest swath of the fitting bell curve, Paradym Ai Smoke Max is the only driver in the lineup with an adjustable perimeter weight. According to the company, this allows up to 19 yards of shot shape adjustment.

TaylorMade Qi10 Max

tour edge e521 driver specs

TaylorMade targets forgiveness, rather than distance, with its Qi10 family of drivers, thanks to the combined effects of a re-engineered Infinity Crown, perimeter mass distribution, and modified head shapes. The undisputed star of TaylorMade’s Quest for Inertia — the company’s bid for “max forgiveness and max accuracy” while continuing to deliver top-of-the-line ball speeds. The largest profile in the lineup, the Max features an incredible MOI of 10,000 g-cm².

Titleist TSR2

tour edge e521 driver specs

TSR is the next generation of the Titleist Speed Project that began more than seven years ago with the TS series and continued with TSi models in 2020. There are three models in the TSR line, which began tour seeding in June. TSR2 is a high-launch, low-spin “max” driver, balancing speed and stability that is designed for the player who makes contact across the face.

Ping G430 Max

tour edge e521 driver specs

With a shallower and thinner VFT forged face design, Ping engineers sought to add speed and distance without undermining an element Ping drivers have been known for: forgiveness. For slower-swing-speed golfers, G430 Max can be custom built with lighter head weights. G430 Max is suitable for the widest segment of the fitting bell curve and features a 25-gram, high-density tungsten moveable back weight (±8 yards of shot shaping).

Toulon Golf has today officially announced its latest Small Batch putter — the Texas.

With a unique concentration of greatness that has emerged from a particular place in the United States, Texas, Toulon aimed to honor some of these incredible players, paying tribute to them with the brand’s most important blade design and creating an individual icon for six Texan legends.

tour edge e521 driver specs

On the sole of the putter you’ll first notice the six icons. The Hawk, a Lord, an author, a prankster, a three-time winner of the green jacket, and another recently-departed Masters winner.

tour edge e521 driver specs

For the putter design itself, Toulon took inspiration from its popular Austin and La Grange models and refined and re-created the iconic blade design.

Texas features a thinner top line with chamfered edges, with an ever-so-slightly crowned top line. The putter features no ines or dots for the purpose of not pulling attention away from its shape.

The face is milled with a Super Fine Double Fly Cut pattern with the company’s Big Tuna over mill in design to enhance the sound and create a soft yet crisp feel. Under the icons you’ll also be drawn to the slow milling technique that features a white paint filled model designation of Texas.

The back cavity design includes 3 simple gold stars — a nod to the Toulon family’s three children. The putter is slow machined from our 904L Stainless Steel and finished in a sleek black.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Driver Review – C & E Series

Tour edge hot launch 521 driver.

The Tour Edge Hot Launch line has easily been one of the best pound-for-pound values in golf clubs over the past few years. With each new Hot Launch release, the fit and finish as well as all-around performance only gets better. Frankly, the gap between “value” and “premium” has gotten impressively narrow across the board with Tour Edge’s latest Hot Launch 521 series . In this review, we’ll cover the Hot Launch 521 driver family which consists of the C521 driver for the “more c ompetitive player” and the E521 driver for the player looking for maximum forgiveness in an “ e xtreme game improvement” design. Oh, and both drivers come in at an insanely low price of only $229.99! Whichever driver you prefer, you’ll realize how much of a steal that is as soon you hit one.

Hot Launch 521 Driver - E 2

With both Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 drivers being aimed at different golfers, the looks differ quite a bit between the two models. Both drivers have a smooth black, blue, and white color scheme with a black metal flake crown. Also, if you look closely at the alignment aid, you will notice the introduction of a new Tour Edge logo ! Coming in at 460cc, each model is designed to invoke confidence with a larger profile behind the ball.

The E521 driver is fairly long from face to trailing edge which helps keep the MOI (think forgiveness) high. This is because the center of gravity (CG) is low and back in the head as a result of the Houdini Sole design which will help launch with a little more spin to keep the ball in the air. The E521 driver, by design, has noticeable offset to help golfers fight the slice and keep their ball in play. Trust me, it really works. We’ll cover that more later.

Hot Launch 521 Driver - C 2

The Hot Launch C521 driver (above) has a look more familiar to the competitive golfer. There is no offset and the head is closer to a more traditional round shape . Tour Edge also wanted to maximize MOI in this model as much as they could so there is a little length front to back, but it’s not overwhelming. Honestly, if you like the shape of the EXS 220 driver , they’re almost identical.

Hot Launch 521 Driver - C521 6

How Does it Feel?

This is the first area where it’s really apparent that Tour Edge is closing the gap between their premium gear and their “value” clubs. Man, I can’t express to you enough how impressive the feel was for both of the Hot Launch 521 drivers . With the higher MOI, both drivers feel extremely balanced throughout the swing. That said, there are some variances in feel between the two drivers.

The C521 driver contains a familiar Tour Edge technology called Diamond Face. There are 39 diamond-shaped cells behind the face which essentially act as little trampolines. This makes the club more forgiving across the face, but also adds speed to the ball at impact which also leads to more distance. I felt like the ball really cracked off the C521’s face with a lot of jump and responsiveness. It felt great.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect much from the E521 driver’s feel, however I was proven wrong. It still had really good jump at impact and was impressively forgiving across the face. Having hit offset “value drivers” before, I’ve generally found them to lack a little bit of the feedback/awareness I’d want in a driver. This can be even trickier with an offset head. This is definitely not the case with the E521. I once again had my expectations greatly exceeded. The E521’s feel was extremely precise with excellent club awareness throughout the entire swing making me confident with the club in my hands.

Sound C 4

How Does it Sound?

When we initially tested the Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 drivers, I can’t tell you how many times we said out loud “I can’t believe this is a $230 driver…” based on sound alone. The C521 driver specifically sounds great. In addition to the Diamond tech, Tour Edge gave the C521 a titanium cup face, which also adds more speed at impact. To fully optimize the sound, Tour Edge also added internal Acoustic Ribbing Channels. The end result is a firm and tight “crack” at impact. The E521 has a good “crack” to it as well, but it’s a little more metallic and open. Both drivers sound well above their price point , that’s for sure.

Hot Launch 521 Driver Comparison

On-Course Performance

Both of the Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 drivers have a lot in common, but are generally geared toward two different types of players. I would also emphatically confirm that each driver delivers exactly as designed.

Honestly, there isn’t much for me to say about the C521 driver geared toward the more competitive golfer. There’s a lot of legitimate tech in such an affordable package. It’s legitimately really good and keeps up with drivers twice as expensive. Between the Power Channel and the Diamond Face, the ball really popped off the face hard . With the CG placed low and back, it’s easier to launch and there’s just enough helpful spin to hold the ball in the air. I could play any shot I wanted with it and feel perfectly confident in the club.

The “extreme game improvement” E521 driver design is very different. The Houdini Sole and shallower face are designed to make it easier to get the ball launched in the air. My experience is that the launch isn’t exceptionally high, it’s just easier to get it flying. Tour Edge also made the E521’s an inch shorter at 44 inches which should help you find the center of the face more often. This will ultimately give you better control and accuracy.

Most impressive, however, is the E521’s anti-slice design. First, there is a sole weight in the heel of the driver. This encourages the toe to come around faster to help prevent dragging an open face through the ball. To go with the sole weight, the E521 has an offset head which also helps square the face at impact. Together, these elements really help keep the ball from slicing. In my testing, a smooth draw was automatic and it was legitimately difficult to hit a slice.

Hot Launch 521 Drivers 7

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Driver

Look, both of the Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 drivers are really good and easily their best Hot Launch drivers to date. I think you’ll be hard-pressed to find better quality and performance at this price point. It’s as simple as that. As legitimately impressive as I found both drivers, the E521 is the show stealer. It’s just SO easy to hit and keep in play. Frankly, it’s a no-brainer recommendation for anyone struggling to keep the ball in play off the tee. And listen, I’m not the only one making these claims. You are going see similar comments no matter where you find reviews of these clubs. The Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 drivers are a tremendous value and easily one of the best deals in golf equipment right now .

Bill, The numbers on the ‘C521’ model seem to be in line with the more expensive (albeit not that much) EXS 220 model. Did you feel/see any big reason to pick one over the other? Thanks, Rob

' src=

That’s a tough one right now. I just saw they were offering the 220 for $250 which a laughably great deal. I’d go after that, personally. Not a knock on the 521 and it’s value, that’s just such a good deal on the 220.

For the $120 difference at full price, the biggest difference I’d say is the 220 feels and sounds a bit better and I like some shafts in that lineup more. The 521 with the stock shaft is a little smoother and somewhat easier to launch from a general perspective. But again, if you have an idea on what’s best for you, that 220 is a criminal steal right now.

Thank you for the response, Bill. It helps a lot. -Rob

What is loft?

Loft affects trajectory and spin rate and therefor it determines the distance the ball will travel. More loft typically generates a higher trajectory and more spin while lower loft causes the ball to fly lower and spin less.

Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 Driver Review

50 Words or Less

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 driver is very large and very easy to hit.  High launch with mid spin.  A great choice for any golfer who fights a slice or wants to reduce their stress on the tee.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Introduction

Tour Edge is the rare golf company that excels at serving both ends of the equipment spectrum.  Their Exotics line has been a winner on Tour and a favorite of avid players for years.  On the other end, their Hot Launch line delivers overwhelming value to new golfers, high handicap players, or those who simply don’t want to spend a fortune on clubs.

Their latest Hot Launch family, 522, is really two lines in one.  The “C” clubs are designed for the skilled, competitive golfer.  The “E” line is designed for extreme forgiveness and ease of use.  Our examination of the latest from Hot Launch starts with the E522 driver.

Check out the new Hot Launch C523 and E523 drivers HERE

tour edge e521 driver specs

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 driver is certainly extreme in its dimensions .  From front to back, it’s extremely long.  It’s also extremely shallow faced.  Leaving the dimensions aside, the E522 driver has a conventional appearance with a gloss black crown and small, white alignment aid.

In Tour Edge’s notes on the E522, they state that this driver has an “Offset Design.”  While there is a slight offset, I’m not sure I would have noticed it were it not mentioned.  Massive credit to Tour Edge for utilizing a feature that will help the target golfer without making the driver unattractive.

tour edge e521 driver specs

When you flip the E522 driver over, you’ll find a premium-looking sole .  The Tour Edge Hot Launch branding is shifted into the toe, putting the focus on the shaping of the Houdini Sole.  The other standout feature is the weight plug on the heel side which helps to promote a draw.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Sound & Feel

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 announces its presence on the tee box with a fairly loud, bell-like impact sound .  It’s mid-high pitched with a harmonious ringing character.  The feel of impact marries well to this sound: fast and explosive more than solid.

With the emphasis on stability and forgiveness, the E522 driver does not provide a lot of feedback .  You can hit the ball all over the face and get very similar impact sounds.  Your hands will feel the big misses, but shots toward the middle of the face blend together.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Performance

The calling card of the Hot Launch E522 driver is consistency .  Thanks to Tour Edge’s Diamond Face 2.0, the ball speed rarely moved more than 2 MPH in my testing.  Any shot that was within shouting distance of the sweet spot got launched.

That consistency extended to the launch angle and spin rate.  Tour Edge’s Houdini Sole drags the center of gravity low to promote high, repeatable launch .  If you get the ball on the face, it’s going to fly on a fairly high trajectory.  What surprised me was how controlled the spin rates were.  I was expecting much higher spin, but the E522 produced mid-spin drives with strong ball flight.

Another thing that helps the E522 driver to be more consistent is the shaft length.  Tour Edge builds the E522 to 44.5″ – half an inch shorter than the C522 – to promote better contact.  While 1/2″ isn’t going to turn a wild slicer into Rory McIlroy, it can definitely help the player feel more in control.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Finally, the E522 driver does favor a draw .  There’s a slight offset, the club sits a hair shut, and it’s weighted for a draw bias.  In my testing, I saw almost every shot bend to the left.  That said, the draw bias is not extreme.  Once I got a feel for the club, I was able to start the ball a little right and let it draw to the middle.

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 driver comes with the Mitsubishi Fubuki HL shaft .  This is a light weight shaft – 45 to 55 grams, depending on flex – designed to create higher launch.  The softer tip also promotes a draw for most players.  While it’s not an ideal fit for my swing, I was pleased with how well it held up to my aggressive transition.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Though I’m not the target demographic for the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 driver, I found this club incredibly fun to hit.  Regardless of your handicap, sending every drive high and down the middle is a lot of fun.  I’m actually thinking about picking up the 15 degree High Launch version as an option for tight tee shots.  No matter what loft you choose, the latest Hot Launch driver is an undisputed winner when it comes to value.

Did you happen to try any shots off the deck?

' src=

I did not. I have enough trouble elevating a fairway wood; driver off the deck is a non-starter for me.

' src=

I just bought this driver. Testing last night my last 5 shots were off the deck on a hitting mat.

The contact they can make is insane. Better then my 3 wood on a clean lie.

The club face is large so id only suggest it for mild fairway lies. Living in mountain golf country there are tons of courses where I could try deck shots maybe 3_4 holes.

On a flattish CC I could see you interpolating this with your 3 wood.

Love the driver got it march 2023 for 40% off list

I liked the review, as I play and look at the players, most here in las vegas are older. the same age thing exists in the palm springs area.. most youn players do not have the money to play alot on nice courses, I guess my point is most older players hit it about 200 with roll. now at the 19th hole they talk about 230 or drives but when playing it closer to 200 mant about 180. more reviews for lesser priced clubs..

' src=

do you buy near new drivers rh

Plugged In Golf does not buy or sell equipment.

' src=

Hi Matt, I always like and benefit from, your reviews, yet have a request–this driver is meant for hi-handicappers. So wouldn’t it make more sense to find someone to review it who’s hitting about 85-90mph instead of 106? You’re clearly a pretty good player (and a pro, I presume as your bio says you’ve taught others), but someone who was as skilled as the rest of us might benefit, yes? Many thanks. J

' src=

Fair review. I am 75, 16 handicap from the senior tees, with a 75 mph driver swing speed. Have played Ping irons since 1984 but usually buy a new driver every year from the big four companies. Didn’t like any of the 2021 models and tried the E522 HL model at the end of the year. Loved everything about it. Dead straight. Hard to miss a fairway. Just traded it in today for the 12 degree model today as it has a very high trajectory. For me distance was comparable to all the $549 drivers out there and I expect the 12 degree will get me an additional 5 to 10 yards. Always suspicious of inexpensive products. Usually get what you pay for but this is an exception.

' src=

I am a 20 handicap player mostly because I struggle with consistently hitting the ball straight. I just got this HL E522 because I love my HL E522 3Hybrid and 4Hybrid. I just hit this in a simulator and the club itself is fine and goes pretty straight but the sound is god awful. It’s a VERY high pitched bell sound and sounded nothing like any other driver I’ve hit. It was more like a metal t-ball bat hitting a golf ball. I’m considering returning it and getting an Exotics C721 because I’m not sure I can handle the sound.

' src=

I have the E522 and am wondering if I can adjust it to get a lower loft. It’s a 10.5

This driver does not have an adjustable hosel.

' src=

I have a 15 degree sr flex swing speed of 65 and not getting around on it. will probably return it

Hot Launch C521/E521

Our Review:

Few products on this year’s Hot List could be viewed as essential to the game’s future growth as Tour Edge’s Hot Launch line, especially this hybrid tandem. These complementary clubs not only offer beginning golfers an affordable alternative, but they do so with a savvy approach to stability and forgiveness. At a price that’s about half the going rate of some of the leading hybrids on our list, these two heads represent a traditional game-improvement approach (C521) and a true emergency super-game-improvement option (E521). Both feature a variable-thickness face that wraps around the crown and sole and is supported by rows of interwo-ven diamond shapes of multiple depths to help the face flex more. The C521’s rear weight adds extra stability on mis-hits, but the E521 goes even farther. Not only is there a heel-side weight and offset to counteract the weak fade beginning golfers tend to hit, the angled keel in the rear of the sole reduces the likeliness of fat shots and helps shots launch higher. Finally, there is a hybrid for everyone with five shaft flexes and even left-handed options—just a ton of user-friendly choices that first-time golfers need. Read More >>

Low-handicapper.

Sleek and simple design that is friendly to look at. Sound doesn’t jump out but is soothing to the ear.

Mid-Handicapper

There's some decent pop in these. The flight is consistent, reliable, better results that I'd get with an iron.

High-Handicapper

The standard C521 model has a clean look, and the larger head feels forgiving. Shots were high with tight dispersion. I was never losing shots to the right.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 E and C Fairways and Hybrids – Key Takeaways

  • New Hot Launch companion fairway metals and hybrids for the new E and C series.
  • E521 fairways and hybrids feature Houdini Sole for turf interaction plus a center of gravity that’s lower and farther back
  • C521 options use Tour Edge Diamond Face tech for more ball speed.
  • You’ll appreciate the pricing.

You know what it’s like when all that Amazon stuff you drunk-purchased one Saturday night shows up at the same time? Yeah, that’s what this week is like with Tour Edge. You’ve no doubt already read about the new Hot Launch 521 series drivers and irons . In this piece, we’re taking a deep dive into the Hot Launch 521 fairway woods and hybrids.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Tour Edge is carving out its own nice little sweet spot in the price-value matrix. The EXS Pro and EXS 220 lines give better players options outside of the Big Five. But if you’re a super game improvement golfer with a keen eye on your yards-per-dollar ratio, the Hot Launch line is an attention-getter. And today’s Hot Launch mega-launch is Tour Edge’s way of grabbing you by the shirt and saying look at me.

There’s an awful lot to sift through here, so you may want to grab another cup of coffee before jumping in.

Hot Launch 521 – Extreme Competition

Tour Edge is breaking up its value-priced super game improvement line into two distinct offerings. The Hot Launch E521 is Extreme Game Improvement while the Hot Launch C521 is Competition Spec Game Improvement. Think Super-Duper Game Improvement and regular old Super Game Improvement.

If you’ve been a Bazooka/Hot Launch HL player in the past, the E-series clubs are the logical next generation. The entire lineup screams easy . Tour Edge says the E series features super-low CGs, super-shallow faces, offset designs and lightweight shafts.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Tour Edge says the C in C521 stands for Competition Spec Game Improvement. We’ll be looking at the hybrids and fairways in this piece and the C521s are noticeably different from their E521 counterparts. The C series is more classically shaped and styled and is intended to bridge the gap between the Super-Duper Game Improvement C series and the Tour Edge Game Exotics EXS 220 offerings.

And again, if yards-per-dollar is your tune, the Hot Launch 521 series will make you want to do the Southside Shuffle all night long.

Hot Launch E521 Fairway Metals

Even better players can have a love/hate thing with their fairway metals. But as handicaps go up and swing speeds go down, players often dread the idea of hitting a fairway metal off the deck. Oh, they’ll try it, but a top, drop-kick or duff is inevitable.

As with the lineup’s driver, the story of the Hot Launch E521 Fairway Metals is the Houdini Sole, the one Tour Edge President David Glod says can make the “duffs” disappear.

tour edge e521 driver specs

How, you may ask? Fair question.

According to Tour Edge, the Houdini Sole makes some mass in the middle portion of the sole disappear and makes it reappear in the extreme trailing edge. Tour Edge says the Houdini Sole, combined with a more curved leading edge, is supposed to reduce turf interaction by 35 percent. Think Cobra’s T-Rail, a different route to a similar destination.

The Houdini Sole also does a little abracadabra with the E521 center of gravity. Compared to the Tour Edge HL4 fairways, the E521 CG is six percent farther back and 23 percent lower. That, along with a three-percent higher moment of inertia, should make an already easy to launch fairway metal even easier.

GET FIT FOR YOUR GAME WITH TRUE GOLFFIT™

Unbiased. No Guesswork. All Major Brands. Matched To Your Swing. Advanced Golf Analytics matches the perfect clubs to your exact swing using connected data and machine learning.

Everything about the E521 is aimed at helping slower swing speed players get the ball up in the air. The shallow Cup Face design is eight-percent shallower than the Hot Launch HL4 design. What’s more, the lofts are higher than standard: the 3-wood is 16 degrees, the 5-wood is 20 degrees and so on through to the 27-degree 11-wood.

The E521 fairways are also brazenly left-biased. There’s plenty of offset to go with a right-fighting heel sole weight to help the target golfer fight his next worst fairway metal fear: the towering slice.

tour edge e521 driver specs

And, as with the E521 driver, Tour Edge is touting Control Length Shaft Technology. That, friends, is marketing-speak for shorter shafts.  The 3-wood shaft is 42.5 inches – up to a full inch shorter than the industry standard. Hey, anything to help the target golfer hit it square, right?

The lightweight (45 to 5 grams, depending on flex), high-launching Mitsubishi Fubuki shaft is stock, as is the Lamkin Z5 grip.

Hot Launch 521

The Hot Launch E521 fairways metals will retail for $149.99.

Hot Launch E521 Hybrids

The E521 hybrids also feature the signature Houdini Sole. How much it actually helps hybrid-turf interaction might be an open question. The Houdini Sole also does its magic on the center of gravity, moving the CG seven percent lower and 30 percent farther back than the previous HL4 models.

Hot Launch 521

In the wrong hands, game improvement hybrids are often hook machines. The E521 is no different. Like its fairway brother, it’s brazenly left-biased with plenty of offset and a Cup Face that’s five-percent shallower than that of HL4.

Also, like the fairways, the E521 hybrids come stock with the high-launching, lightweight (50 to 60 grams) Mitsubishi Fubuki shaft and the Lamkin Z5 grip. The full offering is available for both lefties and righties.

Hot Launch 521

Retail is $129.99.

  Hot Launch C521 Fairway Metals

Things get a little more interesting with the C521 (C for “Competition Spec”) fairway metals. There are a few similarities and a boatload of differences between the C521 and the E521. The most visible difference is with the junk in the trunk. Tour Edge has made the Houdini Sole disappear. Instead, there’s a more traditional-looking sole with an added weight that moves the CG nine percent lower and six percent farther back than the HL4, with a six-percent increase in MOI.

tour edge e521 driver specs

A less visible but perhaps even more impactful difference is the Cup Face. Taking a cue from the Tour Edge Exotics EXS 220 fairway, the C521 uses Diamond Face technology, Tour Edge’s take on variable face thickness. Diamond Face features 29 different thick and thin diamond shapes behind the face to create what Tour Edge calls “mini-trampolines” to help boost ball speed and keep spin under control.

Another piece of Exotics trickle-down technology is Acoustic Ribbing channels inside the head for better sound and feel. There’s also a Power Channel in the sole just behind the face which does what Power Channels have been doing for nearly a decade now: help the face flex more to maximize ball speed, cut spin and add forgiveness to low-face strikes.

tour edge e521 driver specs

Compared to the E521 fairways, the C521’s feature more traditional lofts (the category dictates there’s no strong 3-wood offering) and considerably less offset. The shaft lengths are also in line with industry norms.

And, speaking of shafts, the slightly heavier (50 to 60 grams) and undoubtedly made-for Aldila Rogue (mid-spin/mid-launch) is stock, as is the Lamkin Z5 grip.

Hot Launch 521

The C521 fairways are available for righties only and will retail at $149.99.

Hot Launch 521

Hot Launch C521 Hybrids

It’s the same melody with slightly different lyrics for the C521 hybrid. As with the C521 fairway, the hybrid features a Cup Face with Diamond Face technology. And, as with the fairway, there’s no Houdini Sole, just a rear sole weight to bring the CG back and boost MOI. Compared to HL4, the C521 hybrid features a four-percent increase in MOI with the CG 10 percent lower and 15 percent farther back.

tour edge e521 driver specs

The Hot Launch C521 hybrid also features Acoustic Ribbing channels for sound and feel and a 25-percent deeper (compared to HL4) Power Channel in the sole to do all those Power-Channel-in-the-sole things.

As with the fairways, the Aldila Rogue (55 to 65 grams) comes stock with the C521 hybrids, as does the Lamkin Z5 grip.

Hot Launch 521

The C521 hybrids are righties only and will retail for $149.99.

Custom Fitting and Final Thoughts

There are several value propositions to Hot Launch. Perhaps the most underrated is the ability to get custom fitted into a $230 driver, a $150 fairway wood, a $130 hybrid and some $90 irons. According to a phalanx of press releases announcing the Hot Launch 521 lineup, Tour Edge plans to have more than 850 custom fitting centers nationwide, each with Hot Launch custom fitting bags.

tour edge e521 driver specs

At those prices, fitting is generally limited to loft, lie and flex but that’s more fitting than most weekend warriors experience. And for those in dire need of instant gratification, Tour Edge features 48-hour delivery on all custom orders.

The key value proposition, however, is the fact that Tour Edge can offer – profitably – technology that matters at the lower-priced end of the market. You won’t see sliding weights, titanium faces or composite crowns. And you won’t see optional shaft upgrades, either. But it’s a fair bet the target golfer doesn’t need – or want – any of those.

What you will see is 17-4 stainless steel, a basic PVD finish and design ideas that deliver what high handicappers want most: help in getting the ball in the air and in the right general direction.

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 and C521 hybrids and fairway metals will be available to consumers Nov. 1.

Was close to purchasing an HL4 hybrid a few months ago. Tour Edge has always interested me from offering good quality at a lower price point than some of the other brands. The E521/C521 definitely have my attention and I will be checking them out after they launch.

. It would be nice if Tour Edge didn’t limit left-handers to offset fairways or hybrids. Not all of us are slicers. My limited experience is Tour Edge makes a quality product at a great price.

Absolutely agree! If they made it with an adjustable loft/lie angle then that issue would be resolved but it sounds like the company has a limited view on marketing it’s products.

I’ll be more than willing to try these clubs, the problem is finding them in stores. When the hybrid sells for $149 and the OEM one sells for $299, gotta believe those stores are pushing the club with the highest profit margin

If you want to play a set of inexpensive, confidence-inspiring irons that perform like mini woods and that are loaded with technology, this is an ideal option. Especially if you need help getting shots airborne and with some distance

That each clubhead is half-iron and half-fairway wood helps ease the process of getting shots airborne. Expect some solid, metalwood-like feel and distance, as well.

Chunk shots with these and the results will frustrate you.

In this Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Iron Woods review, Scott Kramer tests this unorthadox-looking set out on the golf course

Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Iron Woods Review

Tour Edge is well regarded for its value-driven iron-woods and these are the latest in a long line.

Make no mistake: They’re game-improvement clubs made specifically for slower to mid-swing speeds, just like the Hot Launch E521 driver . Each has a stainless steel, hollow-body clubhead with a super-low-and back CG, shallow and thin cup forged clubface, offset, and extremely lightweight shaft - collectively designed to help get the ball quickly skyward.

Categorized as super game-improvement clubs, these have all the ingredients to help hit long, high and forgiving shots.

For instance, there’s the “Houdini” sole that’s shaped to get balls out of tough lies - reducing turf interaction by 35 percent by moving weight low and deep. Ideally, this leads to fewer skulls and digs.

Next, along with the offset comes heel weighting that adds draw bias: You’ll be hard-pressed to slice shots or frankly even push them right. And of course, the hollow body creates a forgiving and powerful face while making impact feel extra solid.

Some players may not like the bulky look despite the overall performance-friendly shaping. Beware: If you chunk it even slightly, fear the short ball flight that drops quickly from the sky.

But if you nut it the way you’re supposed to, shots are money - high flight with plenty of length. Yet the clubs are intended for golfers who don’t pure shots on a regular basis, which is why the sole aims to help pave the way to cleaner impact.

They’re offered in individual lofts or as a seven-piece set. If you choose the latter, know that they’re available in 3-iron through attack wedge, and you can pick the exact set configuration you want.

The standard graphite shaft is a super-light Mitsubishi Fubuki that either weighs 55 or 60 grams, depending on the flex, with a lower kick point, built to help you generate long shots with a slight draw.

COMMENTS

  1. Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Driver

The Extreme Game Improvement Hot Launch E-521 Driver features an extreme Moment of Inertia (M.O.I.) with a major emphasis on ease of launch, playability and correcting miss-hits and slices to go straighter. The 460cc Hot Launch E521 Driver made from premium 6-4 Titanium is all about ease of use.

  2. Tour Edge Hot Launch C521, E521 drivers: ClubTest 2021 review

Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Driver. $230. With the E521, much of the magic rests in the "Houdini Sole," aka weight on the extreme trailing edge of the sole, paired with a curved leading edge ...

  3. Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Driver Review

This 460cc driver may well win you over even before you see the low price tag. Part of the longstanding Hot Launch line from Tour Edge, which includes the Hot Launch C521 driver we tested recently, it's plenty affordable compared to other similar-style drivers on the market. The "E" in its name stands for extreme, which refers to extreme ...

  4. Tour Edge Hot Launch C521 & E521 drivers

The Hot Launch E521 driver is designed for "Extreme Game Improvement". The Hot Launch C521 driver is built to what Tour Edge calls "Competition Spec" for golfers wanting game improvement performance in a more traditional looking package. These spec variations can be found through the entire Hot Launch 521 Series in both the E521 and ...

  5. Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Driver Review

Tour Edge also made the E521's an inch shorter at 44 inches which should help you find the center of the face more often. This will ultimately give you better control and accuracy. Most impressive, however, is the E521's anti-slice design. First, there is a sole weight in the heel of the driver.

  6. Tour Edge Golf Hot Launch E521 Offset Driver

Prepare For Launch. The Extreme Game Improvement Hot Launch E521 Driver features an extreme Moment of Inertia (MOI) with a major emphasis on ease of launch, playability and correcting miss-hits and slices to go straighter. The 460-cc Hot Launch E521 Driver made from premium 6-4 Titanium is all about ease of use.

  7. Tour Edge's Hot Launch 521 E and C Series drivers

If Tour Edge's C521 is geared for the traditionalist, the E521 driver ($229.99; 10.5, 12.5, and 15 degrees) has the high handicapper in mind. The shallow-faced "Extreme Spec" — 11 percent ...

  8. Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 E and C Series Drivers

Tour Edge has released two new Hot Launch 521 Series Drivers. The Hot Launch E521 is designed for slice correction.; The Hot Launch C521 is designed for maximum performance.; Retail price for both drivers is only $229. With the release of Hot Launch 521 (E521 and C521) drivers, Tour Edge is once again giving us pause to consider how much a new driver should really cost.

  9. Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Offset Driver

Shorter shafts lengths that Tour Edge calls Control Length were designed specifically for the E Series metals to greatly improve accuracy, center strikes and to offer maxed out Smash Factor ratings for the club head. The driver shaft length of 44.5" is a half inch to one inch shorter on the E521 Driver compared to the standard in the industry.

  10. Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Driver

The C521 clubs feature a more traditional appearance to appeal to golfers seeking game-improvement performance with classic head shapes, while the E521 clubs are built to offer extreme forgiveness and launch capabilities. The Tech Story. Tour Edge describes the Hot Launch E521 driver as the easiest driver golfers will ever hit.

  11. Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 Driver Review

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 driver is certainly extreme in its dimensions . From front to back, it's extremely long. It's also extremely shallow faced. Leaving the dimensions aside, the E522 driver has a conventional appearance with a gloss black crown and small, white alignment aid. In Tour Edge's notes on the E522, they state that ...

  12. Tour Edge Hot Launch E521

Hot Launch E521 Our Review: Hybrid irons with hollow bodies are Tour Edge's wheelhouse, and it's easy to see how "get the ball up in the air" is the most important consideration here.

  13. Tour Edge Hot Launch C521, E521 drivers offer two takes on game

The Hot Launch C521 and E521 drivers each are offered in three lofts. The C521 comes in 9-, 10.5- and 12-degree lofts with the Aldila Rogue shaft in five flexes as standard.

  15. Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 E and C Fairways and Hybrids

Compared to the Tour Edge HL4 fairways, the E521 CG is six percent farther back and 23 percent lower. That, along with a three-percent higher moment of inertia, should make an already easy to launch fairway metal even easier. ... And, as with the E521 driver, Tour Edge is touting Control Length Shaft Technology. That, friends, is marketing ...

  19. Tour Edge Hot Launch E521 Iron Woods Review

Tour Edge is well regarded for its value-driven iron-woods and these are the latest in a long line. Make no mistake: They're game-improvement clubs made specifically for slower to mid-swing speeds, just like the Hot Launch E521 driver. Each has a stainless steel, hollow-body clubhead with a super-low-and back CG, shallow and thin cup forged ...
