MANILA TO BORACAY via BATANGAS PORT: By Bus + 2GO TRAVEL Ferry

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

As the Philippines’ most visited beach destination, Boracay welcomes millions of tourists per year. Aside from its sheer natural beauty, much of the island’s popularity can be attributed to its accessibility. There are two airports serving Boracay, located in Kalibo and Caticlan. Over the years, the cost of flights have also gone down significantly, especially during seat sales. But outside these promos, fares can still set back a passenger thousands of pesos per way. After all, air travel remains relatively expensive.

Thankfully, you can also travel to Boracay by sea. Most people are not aware that there are ferries that carry passengers from Batangas Port straight to Caticlan. The regular ferry fare is generally cheaper than that of year-round seats on a plane.

Our team recently took this route and documented our journey, so allow us to share our experience with you.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Batangas to Caticlan 2GO Ferry Schedule

2GO Travel has two trips from Batangas to Caticlan per day. They use the vessels St. Anthony de Padua, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Augustine of Hippo to ply this route. Here’s the schedule as of July 2019.

Batangas to Caticlan

  • 10:00 am, daily
  • 09:00 pm, daily

Caticlan to Batangas

  • 08:00 am, daily
  • 11:00 pm, daily

Travel time: 9 hours.

We recommend taking the night sailing. You leave Batangas at 9pm and arrive in Caticlan at 6am. This will allow you to have more time in Boracay and maximize your day.

These may change without notice so please double check with 2GO before you start planning your trip.

2GO Ferry Ticket Price

Much like airlines, 2GO Travel seems to be employing a dynamic pricing system, which means that the fare varies depending on a number of factors including the date of travel, availability, and the vessel used.

Each booking covers a berth (bed) onboard. There are four types of accommodations, each has its own price pricing scheme.

Here are the usual price range per class.

  • Economy. Aka Super Value class. With an economy class ticket, you get assigned one in dozens of bunk beds in a big non-airconditioned room. There is very little privacy here because you’re sharing the room with other economy passengers. Price range: P950 – P1250 per passenger.
  • Tourist. You get a bed (bunk bed) in an air-conditioned room shared with the rest of those in tourist class. The beds are slightly bigger and with better privacy. It reminded us a little bit of capsule hotels. You also get to have a pillow for comfort. Price range: P1000 – P1400 per passenger.
  • Cabin. Cabin class passengers get a bed in a room that is shared with a few other passengers. A cabin can accommodate either 4 or 6 passengers. Price range: P1600 – P1850 per passenger.
  • Suite Room. Good for 2 pax. With a suite room ticket, you get your own private room with better provisions. Price: around P4550 per room.

We were able to try two classes: Economy and Tourist.

If you’re on a tight budget, you can travel on economy class. However, note that the room isn’t air-conditioned. It can get really hot even at night, especially if you get assigned a bed near the kitchen.

2go travel manila to boracay

If you’re on a budget but would like to be comfortable, go with tourist class instead. The difference in price isn’t much but it is a hundred times better in comfort. The room is air-conditioned and with proper panels (lower bunks) for a little bit of privacy. It also has more breathing and moving room. You also get a pillow. Since you’ll be sailing for 9 hours, the price hike is definitely worth it.

If you booked economy and you want to move to tourist class, you can do so by paying an upgrade fee. We’ll discuss that in a separate section below.

Where to Book 2GO Ferry Tickets

You can book via a 2GO outlet, via the 2GO website or via 12GO.asia.

  • 2Go Outlets. To check the nearest 2GO outlet in your area, use their outlet locator here .
  • 2Go Website. I tried booking via their official website but every time I try to pay, it’s giving me an error and I would start over. Eventually I gave up. Haha. It’s also important to note that when choosing an origin or destination on their booking engine, there are two BATANGAS entries. They refer to the same Batangas, don’t worry. One is just for the morning sailing, while the other is for the night sailing. It’s confusing at first, but it’s just structured that way. You can try booking at https://travel.2go.com.ph .
  • 12GO. This is a third-party transportation booking website, where I usually book my bus and train rides when traveling across Southeast Asia. They’re just starting to expand here in the Philippines, but they already have 2GO Batangas-Caticlan in their system so you can book it with them. BOOK HERE!

How to Get to Boracay from Manila via Batangas

1. catch a bus to batangas pier..

We usually use the the DLTBCo terminal in the LRT-Buendia area. Travel time is 2-4 hours, depending on traffic conditions and which part of Manila you’re coming from.

Fare is P197 if you’re coming from Buendia or P207 from Cubao. Below is the schedule.

2go travel manila to boracay

Some buses pass through and make several stops in Sto. Tomas and Tanauan. If you want a quick journey, board a bus with the CALABARZON sign. This means that the bus will be taking the STAR Tollway, which bypasses most towns and cities between SLEX and Batangas City.

Allot plenty of lead time to make sure you don’t miss the boarding time. They allow boarding hours before departure so it’s okay if you’re a bit too early. Our sailing was at 9pm but we arrived way before 7pm, yet we were already encouraged to board, which was really nice.

2. Board the ferry to Caticlan.

At Batangas Pier, proceed to the boarding area for your ferry. You will need to present the following upon boarding:

  • a printed copy of the eTicket itinerary receipt

Here are the accepted IDs:

  • Driver’s License
  • SSS/GSIS ID
  • PRC ID (issued by PRC)
  • Senior Citizen’s ID (OSCA)
  • Federation of Senior Citizens ID (FSCA)
  • NBI Certificate
  • TIN ID (issued by BIR)
  • Voter’s ID
  • Company ID (if working)
  • Student ID (if student)

After boarding, look for your bed and settle down or explore the rest of the vessel.

If you have trouble finding your assigned bed, you can always approach any of the staff for assistance.

3. Enjoy the ride.

The travel time is 9 hours. How you spend it is up to you. Most passengers choose to just sleep all the way to Boracay. But you can also explore the ship. There is a cafe where you can pass the time.

If you’re the type who gets sea-sick, make sure you bring meds. The journey is smooth sailing for the most part, but there are times when it gets dizzying.

4. Disembark at Caticlan Jetty Port.

At Caticlan Jetty Port, you’ll find tents and tables set up outside the building. Look for the Registration Area and queue up. You’ll be asked to write down your name (and your companions’) on a logbook. This is used to monitor the number of tourists visiting Boracay.

Afterwards, proceed to the Verification Area. Here, you’ll need to present proof of accommodations. Since Boracay reopened in 2018, it is now mandatory to have hotel booking if you’re spending at least one night in the island. Again, hotel booking is REQUIRED.

5. Pay the fees.

After having your hotel booking verified, proceed to the payment windows.

2go travel manila to boracay

Oh, wait, before that, decide whether you want to take the cheaper pumpboat or the bigger but pricier Oyster Ferry. There are separate queues for pump boats and oyster ferry, so make up your mind first.

Here are the rates per person:

  • Pump Boat (Day: 5am-5:40pm): P25
  • Pump Boat (Night: 5:40pm-9:45pm): P30
  • Pump Boat (Midnight: 9:45pm-5am): P50
  • Oyster Ferry: P100

Once you’re decided, fall in line. Once you reach the counters, you will also need to settle other fees along with the boat/ferry fare. Here are the other fees:

  • Caticlan Terminal Fee: P100
  • Environmental Fee: P75

If you choose to take a pump boat, prepare a total of P200-225 per passenger.

If you choose the Oyster Ferry, prepare to shell out P275 per passenger. Oyster, shell out, get it? Nevermind. Sorry. Haha.

You’ll settle all these fees at once but you’ll be given separate receipts.

6. Board your boat or ferry to Boracay.

After payment, enter the port building. You’ll have to go through a security check. Proceed to the Passenger Waiting Area and wait for boarding.

When it’s time to board, find your boat and queue up.

Travel time is 10-15 minutes.

7. Take a multi-cab or tricycle to your hotel.

Boracay has two ports: Cagban Port and Tambisaan Port, both in Barangay Manoc-Manoc.

But you’re most likely going to be headed for Cagban Port. Either way, you will find tricycles waiting for passengers by the gates of the port. They can take you to your hotel or resort in White Beach for P100-P150 per ride.

You can also take the multi-cab for P40 per person.

Frequently Asked Questions

How was the experience in the economy class.

On the way to Boracay, our vessel was M/V St. Anthony de Padua. It seems like there are two economy levels. The bed assigned to us was on the lower level, near a cooking area. Even though it was a night sailing, it was really hot. We were sweating the entire time. The upper level was a lot better though.

For our return trip, the vessel was M/V St. Ignatius of Loyola. The experience was much better.

Anyway, on our Batangas-Boracay ride, because of the heat that was spilling to the sleeping area and we were soaked in sweat, we asked to be transferred to the Tourist Class, which was the best decision ever.

How much does it cost to upgrade to tourist or cabin class?

If you’ve booked an economy bed and you wish to move, ask for an upgrade as early as you can. They won’t be able to confirm until the vessel has officially left the port, though.

Here are the rates as of July 2019.

2go travel manila to boracay

This is subject to availability.

How was the experience in the Tourist Class?

Splendid! It was very comfortable and convenient. It was so comfortable that we fell asleep immediately after settling down. We were supposed to have late dinner onboard and we just wanted to rest a bit, but we all fell asleep and woke up in the early morning. Haha.

If you’re on a budget and want to be comfortable, skip the Economy class and book a Tourist bed instead.

Can we choose our beds?

To be honest, we don’t know for sure. We were a pair when we traveler but we were told that they couldn’t ensure that our beds are next to each other or on the same bunk.

If you’re a group and you get separated, I guess you may ask the other passenger to switch with you if they don’t mind.

Are there showers on board?

YES. Even the Economy class has own shower rooms. The Tourist class has their own showers too.

Suite rooms have their own private showers and toilets.

Will they provide towels and blankets?

They can, but for a fee. It’s still best to bring your own, but if you want to rent them instead, here are the rates:

2go travel manila to boracay

Is there a store onboard where we can buy snacks?

Yes. There is a convenience store onboard. Here are the prices of some of the usual items:

  • Cupped noodles – P50
  • Bottled water – P30
  • Softdrink in can – P45
  • Beer with chips – P80

2go travel manila to boracay

Are there restaurants on board?

Yes. There are cafes and food places onboard including Horizon Cafe and Restaurant, Island Fiesta, and Sea Breeze.

2go travel manila to boracay

Would you book 2GO Travel ferry to Boracay again?

I still prefer flying because of the short travel time. But if I can’t find cheap flights, this is a good alternative.

In fact, we’re already planning to return and do this route again with family next time.

Note: We paid for our trips in full.

Be sure to ask for permission first when taking photos or videos especially when it comes to children.

5. Don’t bring home sand and seashells

2GO BATANGAS to BORACAY (Caticlan) – Ferry Schedules & Fares

2go travel manila to boracay

White sand, clear blue waters, exciting water activities, good food — Boracay has it all. This is why for a lot of people, Boracay is the first destination to come to mind when one says “beach.” For years, Boracay has claimed the crown for Philippine tourism poster island, and it hasn’t budged from its spot, especially after it was named as the best island in the world by multiple publications like Conde Nast Traveler . Any conversation about Philippine destinations won’t be complete without the mention of Boracay.

If Boracay is still in your bucket list waiting to be ticked off, you have all the reasons to visit. But it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider coming back if you’ve been there before. After all, Boracay always has something new to offer. Whether it’s a new restaurant, a new dessert craze, or a new attraction, you’ll surely find something new here. Of course, the world-famous White Beach is still there in all of its glory despite being crowded, especially during the summer months. And if it’s peace and quiet you’re after, there other beaches in Boracay that you can visit like Diniwid Beach or Puka Beach .

WHAT'S IN THIS GUIDE?

Getting to Boracay from Manila via Batangas Port

Like most of the tourist destinations in the Philippines, Boracay is easily accessible by plane. There are two main gateways going to Boracay: Kalibo Airport and Caticlan Airport . Kalibo Airport is one and a half to two hours away from Boracay. Meanwhile, Caticlan Airport is just a few minutes away from the island. However, airfare can still be a bit pricey. Although promos for airfare are now widely available, it might be a challenge to look for seat sales if you’re planning a trip during peak season.

Another way to get to Boracay if you’re coming from Manila is via Batangas Port. 2GO Travel has a Batangas to Caticlan (Boracay) route that ferries passengers multiple times weekly. The travel time may take longer, but it has its perks too. First, fares are cheaper year-round. Second, each ticket comes with a complimentary 50 kilograms baggage allowance which is a lot more than what you would get when you book a flight. And if you’re worried about the long travel time, 2GO Batangas to Caticlan (Boracay) trips usually sail at night, so you can get some shuteye while still in Batangas and trust that you’ll wake up in Caticlan.

It’s simpler to purchase a local SIM so you don’t have to worry about having to return the pocket WiFi unit. However, if your phone does not allow you to use a different SIM, both options are available via Klook and can be picked up at the airport.

  • There are numerous daily flights from Manila to Boracay, with several airlines operating this route. On average, you can expect around 5 to 10 flights per day, which translates to approximately 35 to 70 flights a week. However, the exact number can vary depending on the season, airline schedules, and demand.
  • The off-peak season, which is usually the rainy season from June to October, tends to offer cheap flights from Manila Ninoy Aquino to Caticlan. Among these months, September and October often have the lowest fares due to decreased tourist demand. However, it’s essential to note that while you might get better flight deals during these months, the weather might not be as favorable for beach activities. Always check for promotions and deals, as airlines might offer discounts even outside these months.

SAILCATION: Traveling to Boracay by Sea with 2Go Travels

Experience Boracay with 2Go Travels

Table of Contents

There’s no better way of traveling to Boracay than enjoying good food, great service, and a comfortable bed, all while onboard. Experience a new and exciting way of traveling by sea with 2GO Travels!

Sailcation to Boracay via 2Go

I used to think that traveling by sea was uncomfortable and boring because I had to sit back for all those long hours of sailing and wait to arrive at my destination. However, 2Go Travels changed this outlook of mine on sea travel, and here’s why.

Batangas-Caticlan Trip via 2Go

Things were made easy for us when we arrived at the newly renovated port of Batangas. The area was completely organized and far from the usual terminal scene, where everyone appeared to be rushing. This was not the case because we arrived early, perhaps an hour before the vessel we were to board left the port.

Travelers from Manila can take a bus from PITX bound for Batangas International Port. For an easier itinerary, travelers can also bring their personal transport bound for Batangas.

Batangas International Port — Passengers waiting at the terminal’s waiting area.

It’s the off-season, so there weren’t many people waiting in line at the ticket counter. Passenger luggage just had to go through the baggage scanner after ensuring tickets to Caticlan. After waiting for a short while in the passenger waiting area and having the porters take care of our luggage, we were ready to board the St. Augustine of Hippo.

Front desk and a minimart at the lobby area of MV St. Augustine of Hippo.

Upon arrival at the lobby, the crew greeted us and assisted us to our room. They just asked for a valid ID from one of us before handing us the key. The state room we stayed in had a king-sized bed, a bunk bed, a small fridge, and a comfortable room with a shower. It can accommodate a family or a group of friends with four members.

State room on the MV St. Augustine of Hippo.

It costs P7,376 with 12% VAT to have gold accommodation on the MV St. Augustine of Hippo. The accommodation from Batangas to Caticlan includes a state room and both meals for dinner and breakfast. There are cheaper options for accommodation like a cabin, which is a room with 2 bunk beds, a comfort room. There is also a tourist class and a supervalue.

A Vacation that Begins Onboard

Accommodations, fees, and facilities may vary depending on the vessel and the destination. However, on the MV St. Augustine of Hippo, there is a chapel, a 2Go Gear shop, a minimart, a clinic, the Horizon Cafe, and the Island Fiesta, which you can enjoy at the Sea Breeze Area on the top deck. The MV St. Augustine of Hippo sails not only to Caticlan but also to Roxas, Capiz , and Odiongan, Romblon .

Breakfast is served to guests at the Horizon Cafe.

At dinner time, we get to enjoy the delicious 3-course meal they serve us at the Horizon Cafe. While at breakfast, we also enjoy a hearty meal and a morning drink.

MV St. Augustine of Hippo — available charging station at the lobby for the passengers.

At the Island Fiesta, passengers could enjoy a live band and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. If you’re more of a homebody like me and enjoy midnight snacks while binge-watching your favorite series, the Island Fiesta is also open 24 hours a day and serves a variety of snacks and drinks.

MV St. Augustine of Hippo — available charging station at the lobby for the passengers.

There is a charging station in the lobby, so your gadgets running out of battery is nothing to worry about. There were sockets available inside our stateroom, and we were able to charge our gadgets before departure the next morning.

We traveled by sea for the first time, and 2Go exceeded our expectations. Our team all slept well the night before our morning arrival in Caticlan. Which surprised us because who would have thought that traveling, particularly by sea, could provide a good night’s sleep before a busy day? Perhaps the calm sea helped, but 2Go, in our opinion, had worked its magic throughout the 13 hours of sea travel.

Looking Towards Going Home: Caticlan-Batangas via 2Go

There is no better way to return home after a wonderful time exploring the beautiful Boracay than with 2Go Travel.

I had a great time trying different foods and taking Instagram-worthy photos on the beautiful white beach. Boracay is an amazing island to visit, but instead of being sad to return home, our team was actually looking forward to boarding another 2Go Travels vessel. This time it’s the MV St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The MV St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The lobby of the MV St. Ignatius was relatively larger upon entering. The Horizon Cafe and the Island Fiesta are in sight as we approach the lobby. We are again greeted by the ship’s accommodating crew, who assist us with our luggage and rooms.

Our accommodations this time include a suite room. It had a queen-sized bed, a TV, and a clothing cabinet, while the comfort room was larger. The newer and larger vessel than the first we boarded explains the noticeably spacious rooms and lobby.

We didn’t enjoy the live band as we boarded because we were exhausted from exploring Boracay. However, we did get a good night’s sleep that evening and were woken up by the beautiful sea view from our window.

The Horizon Cafe's blinds are open, revealing a view of the sea.

As we ate our delicious brunch at the Horizon Cafe, we could take in the breathtaking ocean view. Late afternoon, after a quick tour of the ship, we arrived at the port of Batangas.

Disembarking, like our previous experience, was made simple by the ship’s crew. Indeed, 2Go makes sea travel more enjoyable and convenient. Imagine a vacation that starts as early as you hop onboard. Spend quality time with family and friends while on sailcation, and experience the best way to travel by sea with 2Go Travels.

It's not my first time traveling with 2Go Travel. The first time I traveled by this vessel was in 2019. It was also a trip to Boracay. The second time was a trip to Cebu via MV  2GO Maligaya . The same experience with my previous trips, upon arrival, the crew greeted and assisted me to the room. They're very accommodating and friendly.

We had a great sleep while inside the vessel. Thanks for the great weather. The sea was calm and peaceful. We don't experience #byahilo at all. It was a smooth travel experience.  The travel time from Batangas to Boracay is around 11 -12 hours.

2Go cruise ships feature different cabins and accommodation options, from super-cheap Mega Value Class to luxurious Staterooms or Suitrooms for 2, hence regardless of your budget you are sure to find the type of ticket that suits your pocket and meets your requirements. Note that in summer it is better to opt for an air-conditioned type of accommodation as it can get oppressively hot even in the open sea. The most popular 2Go Travel ticket options are Tourist Class and Cabin for 4 which offer the best value for your money. Sample 2Go Travel ticket prices are as follows:

  • Mega Value – USD32
  • Super Value – USD36
  • Cabin for 4 – USD47
  • Tourist Class – USD41
  • Cabin for 4 – USD62

Batangas–Boracay

  • Super Value – USD26
  • Tourist Class – USD35
  • Cabin for 4 – USD41

2Go ticket booking can be made in person in any of the company’s outlets or online via the official website or via OTA like us. Booking process is easy with instant confirmation.

When booking online, an e-ticket is issued, which should be then shown at boarding together with your valid ID. IMPORTANT! If you do not print out your e-tickets you will be asked to pay for your real ticket at the port.

2Go Promo Tickets

To grab the best deals with 2Go, shop during seasonal sales periods. 2Go Travel promo tickets are a great way to save big on your sea journey. The best strategy to take advantage of this is to subscribe to the company’s pages in social media. There are both promos for immediate travel and advanced booking.

  • 2Go has really placed a premium on the safety and comfort of their passengers. Security checks of luggage are always conducted. There is a sufficient number of life jackets on board, lifeboats, an in-house medical unit, a rescue boat and even a few police representatives.
  • The amenities and facilities are not to be frowned upon, either. There is always a good front office, a 24/7 cafe, a full bar, live entertainment, salons, and spas.
  • There are charging stations on board for passengers of all classes.
  • 2Go ships including common areas and toilets are generally cleaner compared to other ferries around the archipelago.
  • Overnight trips are a great way to save some bucks on accommodation and entertainment.
  • 2Go can arrange onward transportation for passengers through their partner companies to make your travel even more convenient.
  • Trips can be delayed or cancelled due to weather conditions, especially during the typhoon season. Be ready and be flexible. This is not the fault of the company, though. Yet in case of a delay no complimentary food and drinks are offered.
  • The refund process if you require one can take as long as 2 months if you cancel your tickets paid for by a bank card for any reason.
  • Air-conditioning is often freezing cold but overall the price and experience are hard to beat.

Taking the Ferry from Manila to Boracay – Philippines Travel

2go travel manila to boracay

Our first destination out of Manila was Boracay, Kelly had made it very clear to me she wanted to see some beach. While a lot of people choose to fly from Manila to Boracay we opted for the cheaper option of the ferry. To be precise, we took the very budget option of “Super Value Class”  which turned out to be a huge 200 bed floating dorm room.

Manila to Batanagas – Bus

The first part of the journey was by bus from Manila to Batangas. This 2 hour journey was typical of a bus ride in the Philippines; it was crowded and stopped regularly for passengers while snack vendors hopped on and off every time the bus came to a stop.

Batangas to Caticlan – Ferry

The ferry itself is an overnight from Batangas to the port of Caticlan run by 2GO travel. Our ticket for the ferry stated we had to arrive at least 4 hours before the 9pm set off time. This seemed a little long but we didn’t really have anything better to do in Manila so headed down to Batangas pretty early.  The ferry terminal was full of food stalls to keep us happy until boarding time.  Getting on the ferry was a bit of a challenge in itself. We were separated into lines of male and female and told to put our bags in line next to us and patted down by security. It was dark and there was a man in uniform shouting instructions at us through a megaphone, It felt a little like I was joining the military or going to prison. A few minutes later the star of this show turned up; a black Labrador sniffing all our gear for drugs. With no illegal substances found (not that there was any there), we boarded the ferry.

The ferry is equipped with everything you might need, including a shop, restaurant and even a bar where passengers sung karaoke well into the night. Our “Super Value Class” was simply an enormous ship deck filled with rows upon rows of metal bunk beds. The beds had plastic gym-mat style mattresses which were surprisingly comfortable when you added the pillow case and sheet available for a small fee.

Most people within this area had drifted off to sleep by 11pm, which is probably a good idea because we needed to wake up at 5am to disembark at 6. However, it is a bit difficult to fall asleep on a giant ship in the middle of the ocean when someone starts singing “My Heart Will Go On” at karaoke and you start getting Titanic flashbacks. However, after a while the rocking motion of the ship gently lulled us into a deep slumber.

Caticlan to Boracay – Boat

Once you arrive in Caticlan you are directed to a path to the boats which sail to Boracay.  Buying the boat ticket here is unnecessarily confusing. There are 3 tickets windows and you have to visit all 3. The first is the ticket, the second an environmental fee and the third  the ferry terminal fee. You then have to head over to a desk to fill in what appears to be a questionnaire  (where do you come from etc). After all that you can jump on the boat for the very short 10 minute crossing to Boracay.

How would you get from Manila to Boracay?

All in all we were pretty happy with our decision to take the ferry from Manila to Boracay rather than fly, although we are really not on any deadlines.  The ferry not only saved us money on flights but was also accommodation for one night.

The bus through Manila and arriving 4 hours before departure is not for me. Sounds you like you enjoyed the journey tho 😉

Hi, I am organizing my trip to Manila and Boracay, and you don’t might, could you give me the prices of each transportation you took to go to Boracay from Manila? And where did you take the bus to Batanagas? Thank you

how much the cost of ferry to boracay??? I am planning to go in april. taking ferry to boracay.

Hahaha good one thanks for the info

hahaha nice one but its much better if you put the prices of each ride you took for other people who like to go to

Hey i just wanted to add some extra info on Manila city to Boracay Island. Firstly the ferry ticket from *Manila (Batangas) to Boracay (Caticlan) we booked in advanced it cost around 991php per person book onhttp://travel.2go.com.ph/index.asp . Then once you have your ticket printed and other documents needed you can take the bus from Buendia station. Busses come every 20 mins, so you can just jump on a bus and pay half way which will cost around 133php.when you arrive at Batigas port you will walk straight to the check in terminals (you will need to be 4hrs early) show your tickets and documents then go to the waiting room, there are food stalls selling noodles, pizza and a 7/11 down stairs. the Ferry will board 8:50 and separate women from men and body check them and use a sniffer dog on your bags. once your on the ferry you will directed to your bed if you would like you can upgrade to a private room, next you will be be served dinner and a breakfast (included with your ticket) as the food tastes like cat food i suggest to bring some snacks. you will arrive at Caticlan around 8-10 am as the ferry may be delayed and once you get off the boat you will need to buy tickets (tourists will need to pay for Environmental fee,Terminal fee and the ticket to Boracay in total this will cost 200php) and fall into line to get the boat to Boracay which will take around 10-15 minutes.

You said that man and women need to be separated,we are family.still need to be separated?and how much total cost from manila to boracay?thank you.

It is only being separated for inspection/ line but through out the ferry, you can be together with your friends, family. I would recommend this kind of transportation as it is cheap compare to airlines. but you have to deal with this kind of transpo, not that bad. but its average. of course, thats what your paying.an estimate of 50 dollars per person.. from manila-boracay.

Thanks for this info.. Very helpful ☺ You say what it is in the phillipines ? More people dont care…always say everything is good.

Chloe, thats true. at around 50 dollars estimated you will spend for travel manila-boracay..

Thank U so MuCH

Hi guys! Thank you so much for sharing this information. Im thinking to catch the ferry at the beginning of november this year. Just wanted to ask you if it would be safe for a solo female travelling on the super saver or tourist option?

how about from caticlan boracay going back to batangas was it easy to get a ferry?

Wow this sounds like quite an experience! The much more hardened traveller way to go for sure! Just for information, thankfully there a now many more budget flight options available to Caticlan (closest airport to Boracay over Kalibo) including 6 daily direct flights from Manila by Cebu Pacific and 4 by Philippines Airlines, though they’re more expensive than Cebu Pacific! Just for your readers information! 😉

yeah. Philippine airlines is quite expensive than cebu pacific. But also be informed that peak seasons are usually summertime around april-may.

I went over this site and I think you have a lot of great info, saved to bookmarks (:.

I suggest that you try some kind of transpo, not usual if you like some experience. but if you like to be on easy mode. suggest you take an airplane..

Could i take my own car on that Ferry?

Can i ask how bout from boracay to manila is it same way back? Were planning to go by january with my family .. Thank you also for big help information we get . God Bless you ?

really nice tips, its a bit of a work to get too but definitely well worth it

I am taking this exact same trip to Boracay thanks to this info. Just cheaper and I am not on a deadline. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, your post makes me remind of my trip to Boracay three years ago. Although we just have 4 days there, we have lots of fun and unforgettable memories. It’s a pity that now the tropical paradise is closed for preservation; so I don’t know when I can come back there. Anyways, thanks for your sharing!

Awesome post and very interesting to read. I love how detailed and informative your post is. Also the photos are stunningly beautiful! I love how gorgeous the place is and how gorgeous your photos are even more! Thanks a lot for sharing this amazing guide, it was really helpful!

Totally loving your post. It is so detailed and informative. Thanks for sharing such useful and amazing post. Keep on blogging!

Why the hell do stupid people write things such as “The ferry not only saved us money on flights but was also accommodation for one night.’ BUT NEVER TELL THE COST!?!?!?!

This post was written several years ago, when we were pretty inexperienced travel bloggers. Looking back now, I agree – it doesn’t include a lot of helpful information such as the ticket prices for the ferry, etc. If I were writing this post today, I would include those details because I’ve learned a lot since then about how to write thorough, detailed and helpful blog posts. However, the fact that you’d rather call me names in an angry comment on a 7 year old blog post rather than just Google the ferry prices yourself says a lot more about you than it does about me.

I Traveled With 2GO To Boracay & I Think You Should Too!

Boracay is one of the few famous destinations in the country that accept tourists despite the current COVID situation. But of course, strict health protocols and travel requirements are imposed to ensure safety. When I decided to go to Boracay for my birthday this year, I picked 2GO Travel to take me there. You’re probably wondering why when I can simply hop on a plane and go there in an instant. Well, one thing about me is that I cherish the journey as much as the destination. I don’t really like being in a hurry especially when I have so much time to spare. Traveling with 2GO to Boracay was definitely a great idea and the experience I had was simply amazing!

As with all my other travels, everything didn’t go smoothly though. 😄 The trip to Batangas Port was not easy. Yes. 2GO’s trips to Caticlan start from Batangas Port. This is not my first time traveling with 2GO. In fact, it’s my 3rd. The first two times were during my trip to Romblon in the Lenten Season 3 years ago so I knew what I had to do. I was coming from Manila but I was surprised to find out that it’s different now. A lot has changed since the pandemic. The usual JAM Liner bus from Buendia that takes passengers directly to Batangas Port is no longer available. This made me hop on a DLTB bus to Batangas Grand Terminal, rode a jeep to Batangas town proper, and another jeep to the port itself which was something I didn’t really take into account when I was planning my trip.

I was barely having a bad day having to deal with all the unexpected adjustments. But what got me upset are those people who have tried to rip me off. One jeepney driver offered to take me directly to the port from the Grand Terminal for P200 after he dropped off his other passengers. Another tricycle was charging me P150 for a ride that won’t even cover 2 kilometers! “Wow! That’s just fucked up!”, I thought. How can some people be so heartless amidst all the shit we’re in now? Instead of brooding over it, I let it slide. And although I was not allowed entry right away when I got to the port, I tried to be more understanding and patient.

I might have had a rough start but all my worries melted away when I finally got to board the ship at 8:30 PM. My accommodation was upgraded to a suite and I couldn’t help but adore my room. It has a double-sized bed with clean sheets, a mattress, and 4 pillows! I also have my own toilet and bath with clean towels and shower essentials. The best part is that everything is easily accessible from where I was staying like the cafes, the front desk, the clinic, and the charging stations. The ship’s bar/view deck where I can get a nice look of the city while we sailed away was also just a few flights of stairs from my room.

I roamed freely around the ship before I was invited to the cafe for a sumptuous dinner. I feasted over adobo and caldereta with steamed rice and a creamy seafood soup on the side. It was so satisfying that all I wanted after that was to go on a deep slumber. I knew that I would have a limited time to appreciate the ship the next day so I did some more sightseeing before I went back to my room. One thing I have observed is that the vessel looks clean. The floor is mopped and disinfected constantly. But the thing that amazed me the most was how friendly and accommodating the crews were to the passengers. They all seemed so easy to approach that some passengers could just engage in a conversation with them instantly.

I was already half asleep when I heard a knock on my door. It was several minutes past the hour of 10 on my watch and I couldn’t remember ordering for something. If it was to check if I was doing okay, I would totally appreciate it but I thought I needed more sleep. Lol. I still went to open the door out of courtesy though. What I failed to set myself for was getting dumbfounded by the biggest surprise of all. There, outside my room, were several of the ship’s crews, a cake, and them singing to me “Happy Birthday!” I suddenly remembered mentioning that I was going to Boracay for the said occasion when I was arranging my roundtrip tickets with Bea (2GO’s Corporate Communications Manager) but the sweetie gesture was totally unexpected.

The crew didn’t stay for long since they had to attend to their stations. I, too, went to sleep but this time with a smile all over my face. I couldn’t recall the last time I had a birthday surprise which made me even more grateful to 2GO Travel and their team. The next day, I woke up a little early to witness the sunrise while aboard the ship. Witnessing the sunrise and sunset whenever I travel with 2GO has always been part of my routine. Too bad as that day, the sun failed to battle its way out of the thick clouds so I had to settle for the gloom and the cold breeze. We were scheduled to reach Caticlan at 8 AM so I thought I’d kill time with a slice of cake and a cup of coffee in the meantime.

We reached Caticlan at 7:30 AM but couldn’t disembark as the ship found it difficult to dock due to the unfavorable weather. It took another hour before we could finally go ashore. As soon as the passengers were given a go to disembark, the local healthcare officers went aboard to check each passenger and their requirements. It was well-organized and it went by in a breeze that I found myself on a boat to Boracay just 15 minutes later. This trip with 2GO may not be the ideal way to travel for most people but it certainly is worth a try. If you’re up for something out of the ordinary, traveling with 2GO should be on your list. I swear you’ll never regret the experience.

—Frequent Questions People Asked Me About Traveling With 2GO

  • Is 2GO Travel Okay? Based on several of my experiences traveling with them, Yes. Their service is good. It’s not flawless nor perfect but they always meet my expectations.
  • Is it safe to travel with 2GO? Yes. I’m always at ease when I travel with them as apparently safety is their utmost priority.
  • Isn’t it scary to travel at sea? Yes. It is scary considering that I would be in the middle of the sea for long hours but it is something I also enjoy. I love long voyages. Gives me time to relax, grab a book, or do some writing.
  • Have there been any delays in your travel with 2GO? Yes. Our 11 PM boarding for our voyage to Batangas was delayed for 10 hours due to severe weather conditions. I think delays are normal especially if it involves factors that are out of our control. We were properly informed about it and were compensated with free meals throughout the journey.
  • Is 2GO more affordable than traveling by plane? Absolutely! Fares are affordable all year round and vary per accommodation. It can go as low as P300+/person for a 1-way Tourist Class.
  • Can I travel with my pet with 2GO? Yes! Although they’re not allowed to be taken inside the accommodations, they’re placed in pet-friendly areas where their humans can easily attend to them.

  • Where else do you plan on traveling with 2GO? I plan to travel with them on my trip to Cebu in the next couple of months. If quarantine is no longer necessary, I will travel with them to Coron next month.

There you have it, lovelies! I hope this inspires you to try and travel with 2GO. Wishing for your experience, once you do so, to be as wonderful as mine. Share this to your friends and plan that trip now! Until next time. Ciao!

Not everyone knows about this alternative and sometimes, a cheaper way to travel to Boracay Island via 2Go Travel.

While flights will cost you around Php 2000+ per way on a non-promotional base rate, 2Go Travel has a fixed rate (season dependent) for their vessel prices.

2GO Travel from Batangas Port to Caticlan Jetty Port

Our group, which was organized by TravelBook PH , were bound to Boracay together with the crew of GMA 7’s Poptalk.

From Pioneer (Mandaluyong) to Batangas Port, it took us about 2 hours due to traffic and rain. We were inside the port and were all checked in before 9 pm (departure time). According to the e-ticket that we have, it’ll be worth 9 hours travel time to Caticlan. There were other more travelers heading to the same destination but from Caticlan, they’ll head to either Boracay, Iloilo, Antique, or other nearby provinces.

The ship is not that big like those of what we see in the movies but is definitely just enough for people to fit in. There only are a limited number of passengers for ships like these and that must not exceed unless permitted.

While you`re are on long holiday vacation there is no need to miss your important work, Get instant access to your private workspace with virtual PCs by CloudDesktopOnline with excellent tech-support from Apps4Rent.com .

St. Ignatius of Loyola

St. Ignatius of Loyola is the name of the vessel (or the ship) that’s heading to Caticlan. We will be on this ship for more or less 9 hours.

What to expect inside?

Upon entry, you’ll witness the reception area. On that same level are the cabins, suite room, and the tourist class beds. Each passenger can have their own linen upon surrendering an ID. Each passenger also has their own meal but you have to present your ticket – never lose your eTicket for this.

Boracay via 2GO travel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

This area includes the clinic, chapel, mini store, linen counter and the front desks.

The area above is the cafeteria. You’ll get most of the food when you ordered a combo meal. It may get a little pricey but the food’s definitely worth it, and you don’t have too much choice if your stomach screams for food.

The upper level has the beds for passengers who booked the super value class. It’s a non-airconditioned area. During the day, it could be too hot especially if your bed was located on the middle side. Good thing the vessel’s schedule for leaving Batangas Port was always overnight.

The top floor is the open bar area. There will be performing bands here every night to entertain guests. Drinks and alcoholic beverages are also available. From here, you can see the outside world while the ship is moving. It’s a great place for you to relax and enjoy the vessel’s trip.

Keep in mind that the air-conditioned areas are the lower level and the cafeteria only.

Is the journey safe?

Definitely safer than your regular airways. You almost wouldn’t feel that the ship is always moving. No turbulence. No sound of engines. Just do your thing or sleep while it is on its way to Caticlan. Totally one of the best way to travel to Boracay Island .

What’s not probably safe here are your belongings. There will be no designated cabinets for you but there are lockers available. You’d have to bring your own locks, though. Always keep an eye on your belongings. They might get stolen from you when you’re not aware of your surroundings.

How about cell phone signals?

Mobile signals will not always be available because you’re in the middle of the ocean. No wifi available as well. But once you’re near the port, I promise you the signal is better. It’ll only be 5-7 hours of no data connection just like when you’re sleeping.

How many hours of travel time?

About 8-9 hours of travel time from Batangas Port to Caticlan Port and vice versa. Batangas -> Caticlan = Night Travel Caticlan -> Batangas = Day Travel No matter what, you’ll have to sleep. Hah!

How can we book tickets and check for schedules?

You can find the schedule and buy tickets on the 2GO Travel website. Always remember to bring your IDs as it is required when you present your e-ticket.

From Caticlan Jetty Port, what’s next?

Visitors need to buy three different kinds of tickets for the trip to “Caticlan Jetty Port” in Boracay. 1. “Environmental Fee” (75 pesos) 2. “Terminal Fee” (100 pesos) 3.  Ticket for your ferry boat to Boracay (25/30 pesos) Note: 100 pesos Terminal Fee is also collected on the way back from Boracay to Caticlan. Children over six years of age are charged the same rates as adults.

Boat crossing to Boracay will take only 20 mins. From there, ride a tricycle or whatever going to Stations 1, 2, 3 or Diniwid.

But how do you get to this famous island? Please note that Boracay Island itself doesn’t have an airport or a large ferry port. From Boracay/Caticlan Airport, it’s only 500 meters away via tricycle or van to Caticlan Jetty.  Whereas from Kalibo Airport, you still need to take a 1.5 – 2 hour van or bus trip to Caticlan Jetty. From Caticlan Jetty, it’s just a short 10-15 minute boat ride to Boracay island which is described in detail below.

If you’re flying from Manila, the Philippine capital, the flight to Caticlan will take an hour.

Meanwhile, if you’re coming from the Visayas’ islands, there are direct flights to Caticlan from Cebu’s Mactan International Airport. These flights only take an hour as well.

How to travel from Manila to Boracay

2go travel manila to boracay

A four-mile wisp of sugar-soft sands and idyllic beaches on the side of the Sulu Sea, Boracay is still firmly up there with the major R&R draws of the Philippines. People flock from far and wide to laze on the coves, snorkel in the turquoise bays, and crank up their chill factor in the lux hotels.

Because it’s isolated in the middle of the country’s 7,600 islands, most visitors will arrive via a flight out of the big airport in the capital to the north. This guide has the lowdown on those and all the other travel options on the menu when it comes to going from Manila to Boracay. Let’s get started…

Manila to Boracay by Plane and Boat

Caticlan Airport near Boracay

Time – 3-4 hours Price – From $65 per person Comfort – 5/5

Sadly, there’s no airport on Boracay island itself. To make up for that, there are two just across the strait on neighboring Panay island. For the fastest journey, you’ll want to pick flights that arrive at the northernmost: Caticlan Airport. That’s invariably known as the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport and even, simply, Boracay Airport, since it’s the closest landing strip to the white-sand beaches and resort hotels.

The first step here will be to book your jets out of Manila. That’s the easy part – there are a whopping 25-30 departures every single day on this route, making it one of the most popular connections anywhere in the Philippines. The flight time is short, with most services arriving at Caticlan Airport around an hour or 1h15 after takeoff. And there are oodles of various carriers to pick from, including regional fliers like AirAsia and the country’s national flag carrier Philippine Airlines, though most options are with budget-friendly Cebu Pacific.

Boat at Cagban Jetty Port, Boracay Island

Caticlan Airport is on the northern tip of the island right next door to Boracay, making it by far the best place to connect from Manila.

Once you’re on the ground, head straight out of the arrivals hall to catch a tricycle to the nearby Caticlan Jetty Port. It’s a mere three-minute drive away and the fare should be in the region of just $3 per person. From there, quick taxi boats run the route across the strait to Boracay’s Cagban Port, which sits on the far south side of the island. Boat tickets usually cost less than $1 each and can be bought right there on-site. There’s also an environmental charge of $5 per person, plus a port fee of nearly $2. Altogether, this overland, oversea leg of the journey should add around $10-15 to the cost of your trip.

Probably the most important thing to think about here is what carrier you fly with and when you leave Manila. Almost all of the links to Caticlan Airport go from the capital’s big domestic terminal (Terminal 4), though some leave from Terminal 2. The cost of tickets fluctuates a lot, especially during the Philippine high season (November to May) and at key times like early morning and midday. It’s possible to pay under $40 if you book in advance using a service like 12GoAsia , but also over $150 if you leave it too late. Also, beware of added fees for checked baggage and other extras.

Manila to Boracay by Plane, Bus and Boat

Low cost airlines Cebu Pacific and Air Asia aircraft at colorful sunset at Puerta Princesa Airport in Palawan island

Time – 4-6 hours Price – From $60 per person Comfort – 4/5

Not all is lost if you can’t find a flight option that suits your budget from Manila to Caticlan. There are also five daily connections from the capital’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) to the smaller Kalibo International Airport (KLO). Kalibo International Airport is further south and east of the port for Boracay than Caticlan but still within relatively easy striking distance. The bad news here is that arriving at Kalibo necessitates a 1.5-hour bus transfer before you get on the boat. The good news is that the connection is often cheaper.

Again, that first step is a flight out of Manila. We recommend using 12GoAsia to book yours. It lets you compare all the departure times and different airlines operating the route. And there are a few things to consider, like whether to pick AirAsia, who have a faster flight time but charge more for baggage or to go with Philippine Airlines, who have cheaper hold luggage options but just one departure each day. The best bargains tend to be around $44 per person one way, but airfare to Kalibo can be over $70 at the peak of the peak season.

There’s a chance you’ll save money if you go for the transfer and flight combo from Manila to Kalibo.

Because the vast majority of passengers coming through Kalibo are Boracay bound, there’s now a wealth of transport options for making the trip up to the port. It’s possible to pre-book vans but there’s no need – there are usually plenty ready and waiting right outside the arrival hall. The going rate is $5-7 per person and the trip takes roughly 1.5-2 hours.

The destination? Caticlan Jetty Port. Here, the process becomes the same as if you’d just jetted into Caticlan Airport. Buy your ticket for the taxi boats to Boracay, pay the port surcharge and the environment fee (about $15 in all), and you can be stepping out onto the Philippines’ much-vaunted paradise aisle in under 15 minutes.

Manila to Boracay by Bus and Ferry

2GO Ferry

Time – 14 hours+ Price – $50+ Comfort – 2/5

There aren’t all that many reasons to plump for the bus-ferry link from Manila to Boracay. The route takes more than three times as long as flying and, at around about $50 each, costs roughly the same. That said, for travelers keen to keep their carbon footprint to a minimum or those after a true adventure through the heart of the country, this can be a doozy. Put it this way: You’ll earn those Piña Colada on Bulabog Beach!

If time’s not an object and you’re after a bit of an adventure, consider skipping the flights for overland buses and ferries.

The journey begins with a two-hour bus to Batangas, a major port town to the south of Manila. That’s a well-traveled route, with over 16 possible departures from the capital’s Paranaque Integrated Terminal each day. There are a couple of companies in the mix, but Ceres Transport runs most services. They can also be booked in advance using 12GoAsia to make things simple.

Ceres Transport bus

Batangas port is where you can pick up the night ferry that runs south to Caticlan. This will be the bulk of the trip, taking 10-12 hours to get from A to B. The 2GO ferry is probably the comfier of the options. There’s a wide range of cabin options onboard, from big shared dorm spaces to private double suites with ensuite toilets. Whichever you go for, you’ll be arriving at Caticlan port by early morning, ready to link up with the first short ferry boats across to Boracay.

Boracay is a squiggle of pure paradise at the heart of the Philippine archipelago. It’s a place to laze on talcum sands and sip highball cocktails by the side of the Sulu Sea.

You’ll need to do some legwork to get to Boracay from Manila, but the trip is pretty darn easy to piece together. That’s because thousands of people do it every season, and because there are nearly 30 direct flights to the closest airport at Caticlan from the capital each day!
