Entertainment

The flight attendant on the flight was extremely unprofessional and obnoxious. He treated the entire plane as if we were on a seventh grade camping trip. He thought he was funny but was actually rude to us while we were on the ground waiting to continue to our final stop. It was like being stuck with a bad comedian for four solid hours. We flew from Chicago to Long Beach to Reno over 5 hours and they did not have any food other then graham crackers. Because of being delayed no one had time to get food in the airport between flights. Terrible experience and Southwest should look into this crew member.

All international arrivals are handled by Terminal 2, while the Commuter Terminal services flights between San Diego and Los Angeles International Airport. The airport is relatively easy to navigate and flights are generally punctual during most of the year, however delays are common in autumn and winter when visibility is low (thanks to the mighty Santa Ana winds that sweep through the region).

Use our interactive Delta Discover Map to help plan your trip. Search for your desired destination to see details on any potential entry requirements.

A short three miles from downtown San Diego, the San Diego International Airport sits close to the city and to the region’s vibrant beaches. Originally built in 1938 close to the site where Charles Lindbergh flew first tested his plane  The Spirit of St. Louis , it’s sometimes referred to by its first name,  Lindbergh Field . The airport houses two terminals with ample parking, plus the Airport Loop shuttle service between the terminals for connecting flights in the San Diego National Airport. You can find baggage claim located in each individual terminal. Like most airports, San Diego recommends that you arrive two hours prior to your flight. At the airport, you’ll find a host of shops, restaurants and even the airport therapy dog program that brings furry visitors around to tired airport passengers.

Whenever you visit, you’ll find so much to explore in San Diego. Form outdoor activities like surfing, sunbathing and even SUPing (stand up paddle boarding) to simply sitting back and savoring a local brew, there’s truly something for every visit. Take your time and tap into the laid back city vibes, savor the culture or tap into the booming food scene. Of course, don’t forget to explore San Diego’s dramatic coastline and wander its pristine beaches.

HIT THE BEACH

Much like the city’s neighborhoods, each beach offers a unique personality and breathtaking view all its own. Located just across the water from the city, start in Coronado — a pristine beach town with white sandy shores, quaint shops and dining. Of course, take on La Jolla, an array of beaches surrounded by a dramatic coastline, complete with surfing and other outdoor activities at the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Close to downtown, visit Mission Bay and its vibrant beaches, where you’ll find live music, watersports and “spring break” vibes for all ages.

POPULAR ATTRACTIONS

In other cities, tourist destinations might seem over-hyped. Not in San Diego. Here, the popular tourist destinations are worth your time and attention. The iconic San Diego Zoo located in Balboa Park showcases over 3,500 animals and serves a key role in conservation, it also operates the sister San Diego Zoo Safari Park outside the city. Just outside the zoo, discover the various Balboa Park gardens. Also worth a visit, the Maritime Museum that explores San Diego’s rich history as a port city.

DELIGHTFUL DINING

There’s many restaurants to choose from in San Diego, from casual dives to interesting concept spots, from Asian fusion to fresh seafood. A good place to start is Mexican food — since Tijuana is the metropolitan sister-city located next to San Diego, it might be the best place in the country to find authentic Mexican cuisine. Explore an interesting and evolving dining scene in the popular Gas Lamp district, Little Italy, or the North and South Park neighborhoods. Also don’t shy away from street eats in the city, since San Diego (much like many west coast cities) has an array of interesting and popular food trucks.

ART & CULTURE

To start exploring art in San Diego, head back to Balboa Park. In the same park housing the San Diego Zoo, you’ll find a concentration on 15 museums and performing arts venues that features attractions and exhibits year-round. For a longer day visit, use the park’s Balboa Park Passport program, to gain admission to all museums. For the performing arts, you’ll find many live music venues around the city and outdoor shows. Plus, San Diego offers an abundance of playhouses for Broadway shows and community theater.

ATTIRE (WHAT TO PACK)

Whenever you visit San Diego, bring the essentials. Protect yourself from sun damage with sunscreen, a hat and your favorite pair of shades. For chilly nights in the summer, bring a sweater or fleece. In the winter, pack a raincoat, a pair of pants and dress in layers — temperatures can vary, so it’s easy to wear a few things that you can take off and on. Like its vibes, most places in the city are pretty laid back and casual dress is appropriate.

San Diego’s tourism board markets the city’s beautiful weather, and it doesn’t disappoint. This southernmost point of the West Coast enjoys warm summers and mild winters. In the summer expect highs in the 70s. In the winter expect lows in the 50s or high 40s. Of course, the sun shines often in San Diego, with around 260 days of sun annually.

Frontier Airlines is bringing a new nonstop to San Diego

C ome May, Frontier Airlines will begin offering a new nonstop flight between San Diego and El Paso, Texas, the budget airline announced Wednesday.

The flight, which will operate three times a week, will launch on May 16 and is expected to be a seasonal destination, although depending on the popularity of the flight, it could potentially transition to year-round, the airline said.

Frontier, though, won't be the only airline in San Diego offering nonstop service to El Paso. Southwest Airlines, San Diego's largest air carrier, has been flying to the Texas border city for years. Its flight schedule to El Paso varies throughout the year, ranging from once per week to daily, according to the San Diego International Airport.

The El Paso flight, which marks Frontier's sixth nonstop destination out of San Diego, was among 17 new routes, spanning the U.S. and Caribbean, that were announced Wednesday by Frontier.

"We are excited to yet again expand our route map with a focus on under-served and overpriced markets as we head into spring," said Josh Flyr, Frontier's vice president for network and operations design. "Increasing the number of cities with an ultra-low fare option helps ensure even more consumers can take to the skies this year to visit friends and family or experience a new destination on their travel wish list."

At the end of 2023, an average of 106 passengers flew each day from San Diego to El Paso, said San Diego airport spokesperson Nicole Hall. Like other airlines, Frontier has been gradually increasing its portfolio of flights out of San Diego. During the first half of this year, the airline is expected to increase seat capacity by 40 percent, compared with the first half of 2023, Hall said.

Frontier is currently offering promotional fares on the new routes for as low as $19 and "premium extra-legroom stretch seating" starting at $19, although there are conditions. Tickets must be purchased by 11:59 pm Eastern time on Friday, and the discount fares are valid for nonstop travel only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, through June 19 of this year.

See a Map of Where the Deadly Texas Wildfires Are Spreading

T he second-largest wildfire in U.S. history, and the largest in state history, is currently sweeping across the Texas Panhandle , burning through more than one million acres of land.

Two people have now been confirmed dead as a result of the blazes. Joyce Blankenship, an 83-year-old grandmother was discovered in the remains of her burned home, while Cindy Owens, an Amarillo woman in her 40s, died Tuesday after she exited her truck for an unknown reason while driving in the Texan city Canadian. Sgt. Chris Ray of the Texas Department of Public Safety said that "the fire simply overtook her," NBC reported.

The largest of the fires—which spans nearly 1.1 million acres—began at Smokehouse Creek and was 15% contained as of Sunday, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Map of wildfires in Texas and Oklahoma.

The Windy Deuce Fire in Moore County, which covers more than 144,000 acres, was 55% contained on Sunday. The Grape Vine Creek fire, at 34,800 acres, was 60% contained. The Magenta Fire in Oldham County, spanning approximately 3,300 acres, was 85% contained. The 2,000-acre 687 Reamer Fire was 10% contained.

On Sunday, Moore County Sheriff’s office warned that a new fire was possible in the Canadian River area because of high winds, low humidity, and large amounts of grass. The office told residents to prepare to evacuate if necessary.

Fire officials from Lubbock, Texas, help put out smoldering debris of a home destroyed by the Smokehouse Creek Fire in Stinnett, on Feb. 29, 2024.

Evacuations have been ongoing across the region. Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a state of disaster declaration in 60 counties earlier in the week. Citizens of Moore, Potter, Hemphill, and Hutchinson counties have been forced to leave their homes. Evacuation orders were also issued for communities in Wheeler, Allison, Kelton, and Briscoe, but those were reportedly lifted earlier this week.

Fourteen fires were also burning in the neighboring state of Oklahoma, across more than 319,000 acres, on Sunday—part spillover from the Smokehouse Creek blaze. Oklahoma’s Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry reported two new fires that burned 933 acres.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag warning —indicating dangerously dry and windy weather—until 9 p.m. Sunday for Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. A cold front was expected to move into the area on Monday and could bring some relief.

Multiple vehicles and multiple residences are seen destroyed by the Smokehouse Creek Fire in Canadian, Texas, on Feb. 29, 2024.

During a visit to the southern border in Brownsville, U.S. President Joe Biden spoke out about the fires, thanking first responders for “risking their lives to save others” and urging locals to heed official warnings.

“When disasters strike, there is no red state or blue state where I come from. There are just communities and families looking for help,” he said, adding that Texas has received $13 billion in relief funding throughout his presidency. He also linked the disaster to environmental concerns, noting: “I love some of my Neanderthal friends, who still think there’s no climate change.”

Firefighters battle flames from the Smokehouse Creek fire near Sanford, Texas, on March 3, 2024.

Top 5 airlines serving from Seattle to San Diego

My baggage arrived at the airport on an earlier flight. It would have been nice if I would have gotten a text. I waited until all the luggage had arrived before Ivwent to the baggage counter!

I had to check-in my small carry-on at the gate which was inconvenient. According to the people at the gate at SEATAC, there wasn't anymore room in the overhead bins. I obliged. But, when I got inside the aircraft, there was plenty of room EVERYWHERE! It was either miscommunication or incompetence among the Alaska personnel.

Bad. The fight was late and they gave a ridiculous $12 stipend. Better give something or nothing. $12 is ridiculous.

It was a good flight . It wasn’t a full flight so we had space to move around

Great as always. Alaska is my top airline when flying to/from the Pacific NW. I was a bit anxious when I found out I was in a 737 Max, but it went well for us.

1. Stop cancelling flights 2. More overhead luggage space 3. Get rid of the cardboard cups for drinks

The SeaTac tsa process is the dumbest in the land. Slow for no reason. Alaska was fine. We made good time but had no where to park so we sat at the gate for 30 mins.

It was the usual. The entertainment did not work on my iPad but worked on my phone

overall great. However, it took about 20 minutes before I could get the wifi to connect and the flight crew skipped providing me with the snack.

My flight was canceled and I was rebooked on another flight the next day which is not acceptable so I had to rebook myself over the phone

Bag drop off was slow and annoying. Only 2 agents at the entire delta desk, and no one directing traffic for what line to be in, many confused people slowed down the process. Boarding was fine. Seats in Delta comfort plus were fine. Snacks were great! Definitely a bonus. The entertainment system was awful — old, slow, not responsive, and completely unable to play games due to some kind of error. But on the other hand, thank you to Delta for the free WiFi. That made it better.

Everything was very good other than I had selected a specific seat when I booked the flight and they changed it once I checked-in the day before my flight. I was still in first class but lost my aisle seat for a window seat. Being tall, the aisle offers more comfort so I always select an aisle seat.

Flight diverted in SD. Later take off in Seattle by 1.3hrs

Mi primera conexión se retrasó por lo cual perdí mi segunda conexión la cual salió adelantada

Crew was not friendly when I went to request a seat change.

There were choices for the snacks. Good choices and tasty lunch and breakfast as well.

The flight crew was amazing. I’m very tall and they moved me to an exit row unsolicited!!! Amazing service.

Was a great smooth flight from Detroit to San Diego.

The boarding process was terrible especially with an indirect flight Chicago to Seattle to San Diego was terrible talking about we overbooked a flight idk if I’d take this airline ever again we got off our flight from Chicago to Seattle and we traveled for business and they told us our connecting flight was over booked and their was no seats asking people to take a delayed next flight and they don’t tell anyone coughing to wear masks seats 30A-B were terrible during the flight no one wants to sit next to people coughing all around I don’t want to be sick traveling for work or get sick anytime it’s very upsetting the staff doesn’t take this stuff serious to tell them to wear masks when they see people coughing and sneezing

Boarding in Seattle is always a mess. Sat in Deltas new domestic first class cabin. Everything was great except I found the seat cushion to be fairly uncomfortable. I’m a bigger guy so take that into mind (6’2” / 300 lbs.). Crew was meh.

We experience delays on departure and connecting flights resulting in 14 hour to our next departure. We were accommodated with a night's stay but was only provided a 12 dollar meals accommodation. The airlines rules state.at least 50 dollars. In any case, it can not make up for the whole day missed on our vacation in Sydney Australia.

I can say I will not be taking this airline again any time soon. Seat were uncomfortable and too tight. Lack of chair screen and little overhead space.

Plane felt so crowded and tightly packed. The chair itself was not comfortable.

They attended to my needs as I couldn't walk and they provided a wheelchair for me.q

Poor availability of food. Cold cabin temperature. Extremely long waiting time for a flight attendant to respond to a call button signal.

2.5h delay due to unruly passenger in first class. Had to be removed from the flight. No food unless pre ordered. Didn't know we would need it because of delay.

This time my flight was smooth and uneventful. They started boarding even earlier than it was scheduled. I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you!

Only my carry that was taken and found it in my final destination

The flight landed at LAX we were then bussed to collect our bags. That process took nearly as long as the flight. Luckily we weren't in a hurry!

We had a humorous and kind flight attendant, boarding was efficient, flight smooth, pilot gave updates and was humorous too, two drink services was very helpful. In flight entertainment is always appreciated

So bad. The check in process was laborious and the check in agent didn't seem to know how to manage the process efficiently and was confused about how to check in my son's sports equipment. The baggage fees were outrageous and so expensive. $90 for a carry on bag? And $200 additional for 2 check ins. The security lines were insanely long and the terminal was not very nice in the Spirit area. $5 for a water on board. It was my first and last time flying Spirit - I tried to save $ by flying them due to the accommodating schedule but I should have paid for Southwest, because it would've actually ended up less expensive due to the free bags with Southwest. There were no charging ports on the airplane, no wifi and really uncomfortable seating. The flight crew were great though, courteous and efficient in their boarding. Flight was delayed 1 hour, but we made up 15 minutes in flight.

My experience was better than expected. What I did find not so great was the seats. Very little room, they did not recline and the tray table was the size of a post card. There was no food to try, just standard snacks that you had to pay for and I don’t know of any entertainment. I would fly again even though everything was an upcharge. Flight was on time with little disturbance

thy don't even ofer water we have to buy it for $4.49 and paid for our cary on bags $100 each we never will fly in this company again.

Super cool and laid back, three lovely ladies. Couldn’t ask for better service.

It was fine. Boarding was a little rude. On flight staff was great. The cost to purchase everything was a bit annoying but I get that's the business model.

I liked the fast check in and boarding. The flight fare could be a lot less than what I paid…..

Minimalist interiors are great for legroom but terrible for comfort.

The cost of the ticket was great its literally 1/3 of an equivalent swa ticket

Seats are extremely cramped. There was't any type of complementary snacks and there was zero entertainment provided beyond purchaseable wifi.

great customer service at the boarding gate that was warm and friendly. the flight experience with no complaints and the attendants were caring and attentive

The check in at the airport was awful. Told I need to pay for a bag. The item was taken at screening. I went back to get my $ back and they gave me a coupon with a QR code that doesn’t work. Worst costumer service ever!!!!!

4 hour delay because they used our aircraft to fly a different segment (per the captain)

Lost baggage on my connecting flight. 24 hours later, still no update on my bags.

I had to cancel within 1hour of the reservation an they put you through hell to . no live customer service desk. I'm handy caped and they make it almost impossible to cancel. They are steeling my money. You should not have that airline on your site. Contact me and I will give you all info. Of what the are doing to me just notable treatment they are set up like that to take people

absolutely horrific. delayed flights, overbooking. over charging. nightmare service beyond words. stay away.

My husband didn't get boarded on this flight. He was asked to pay $50 extra by the Frontier staff to get two boarding passes for check-in at the Las Vegas airport. He refused to pay this extra $50 charge and tried to do check-in online by himself but it seemed to be late with only 7 mins left. It ended up that my daughter and my husband missed the 7-minute time window. They had to take the next non-direct flight which took more than 12 hours from Las Vegas to San Francisco, a very poor experience for them.

Frontier is a no-frills airlines were the focus is low cost. You get basic service so don't set your expectations high. Watch out thought because this airline, like a few others, will try to nickel and dime you.

Was charged 99 dollars for a bag despite agents previously telling me it would be ok. Customer service was unhelpful

I will like you ( Frontier Airlines) to fly into LAX instead of ONT because I live in LA and the subway takes me to my house in just 15 minutes

the flight was delayed 3 1/2 hours, which meant that I could not get to Seattle in time to board the cruise ship. I told the crew at the gate and asked if they could check and see if there were any other flights out there would get me there in time. They said no they couldn't. I have about two million flight miles and have flown every major airline in the US including several that are no longer exist and about 1/2 dozen European airlines and all the years I have run into similar problems. In every case the people at the gate made every effort to find alternate travel. On top of that you have shut down phone service, your chat system does not work and I have had no way to get in contact with anyone except those at the airport. This is absolutely the worst airline I have ever dealt with. You are at the bottom of the list as far as your integrity and support are considered. I applied for a refund, which are people at the gate suggested I do and gave me a card to that effect. I filed the claim and since then it has been complete silence.
