Artist Info

Yungblud can’t remember a time before music: at the age of two, he picked up a guitar from his father’s instrument shop, and from that moment, his lifelong love affair began. Born in Yorkshire, Dominic Harrison began writing his own songs at 10 years old, enticed by the thrill of catharsis and self-expression he couldn’t find anywhere else. Since his self-titled debut EP in 2018, the 24-year-old’s lyrics have found universality in introspection, reckoning with sexuality, gender, class, gentrification and mental illness with disarming honesty in order to encapsulate the spirit of his generation. His fans are legion, and the numbers are reflective of this resonance: Harrison has 7.6 million Spotify Monthly Listeners , 4.5 million followers on TikTok and total YouTube views in nine figures . Harrison’s first creative statement was his 2018 debut album 21st Century Liability , which cemented his status as a fearlessly individual artist who thrived on breaking cultural taboos in his lyrics. This was succeeded by his 2019 EP, hope for the underrated youth , which debuted in the Top 10 of the UK Official Albums Chart . In its wake, the accolades started totting up: he was shortlisted for the BBC Sound of 2020 poll and subsequently crowned the MTV Push: Ones to Watch winner . Harrison more than fulfilled this promise with his second record, weird! , which topped the UK album chart and is now certified gold . After having performed headline tours across Asia, North America and Europe, the incredible success of weird! allowed Harrison to perform a sold-out, five night residency at London’s Kentish Town Forum and a date at the 10,000-cap Alexandra Palace to give his fans the live experience they sacrificed during the pandemic. Now, Harrison’s sights are set firmly on the future with the release of his hotly-awaited third album, Yungblud in September 2022, which is primed to be his greatest era yet.

My dad and i saw him in Orlando this past October, my dad is very hard to please with music and said it was one of the best concerts he’s ever been to. As for me it was the best concert i’ve ever been to. Something about Dom just makes it so special. He is always engaged in the audience and makes sure everyone is safe. When he played polygraph eyes live, i started crying. I hadn’t related to someone’s music that much since Lil Peep. I would highly recommend seeing YungBlud in concert, and i will most definitely be going to another one!

Dom's Melbourne show at the Forum on the 2nd of Jan was my first time seeing him as I'd been overseas the last couple of times he'd come to Melbourne.

I had high expectations as I'd heard he has an electrifying stage presence - these expectations were far exceeded by the time I left the Forum on Thursday night. I couldn't believe how much raw energy he had on stage, and his interactions with the audience (including him coming into the mosh - with security - and singing for about five minutes) were fantastic. I managed to push my way to get about a metre away from him when he was in the mosh, which was incredible! Everyone was very considerate of Dom during this time which was awesome as everyone appreciated that an artist coming into the pit is an opportunity that most other artists don't allow! The audience reciprocated his efforts - everyone was jumping and screaming throughout the whole set.

Some of the highlights of the night were "Loner", where Dom emphasised that the BHC is a family where everyone can belong - you could tell, as always, that he was being sincere; "Braindead" which was performed with such high energy reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys (who I've seen twice); and "Machine Gun" brought the house down at the end of the encore, with Dom adding on a "f**k Sco-Mo" chant in response to our PM's response, or lack thereof, in regard to the bushfires ravaging our country at the moment!!

Overall, Yungblud has cultivated his own honest, unique persona which is the perfect balance between raw, political punk rock energy and relatable, deep lyrics (eg. Casual Sabotage). This concert was definitely five black hearts (stars) out of five - and I'll be first in line next time he comes back to Melbourne!

yungblud’s brixton show was honestly one of the best shows i have EVER been too! i’ve seen yungblud three times this year (first time- electric ballroom in march and second time at reading festival), and the atmosphere that is created when he is on stage is amazing. I could not recommend him enough if you are someone who loves to jump around and have an amazing time. his music is incredible and he is so inspiring. 100000000000/10 experience. BHC forever

YUNGBLUD kicks off ‘The World Tour’ in St. Pete with a frenetic (and satisfying) show

Live Review: YUNGBLUD with the Regrettes and Sophie Powers-Jannus Live, St. Petersburg, FL-June 27, 2023

yungblud us tour

On a Tuesday night, which is usually an ‘off night’ for concerts, we could hear the music blaring from Jannus Live down to the car park. Upon arrival at the show around 8 p.m., the venue, essentially a courtyard between several buildings, was buzzing with a mass of people listening to one of the support acts, Sophie Powers. She was a bundle of energy on stage as she belted out songs, tossed her hair, and got the audience hand-waving.

The crowd was almost as enjoyable to watch as the show. I noticed a mother holding the hand of a pint-sized boy with moussed-up burgundy hair. The back of his shirt read, “This is my 5th birthday.” The 20-something crowd mainly consisted of females, many wearing pink, checkerboard, and black YUNGBLUD-inspired outfits. A couple near the front of the crowd wrapped the rainbow and transgender pride flags around their bodies. Others were in line at the merch table to buy t-shirts with the phrase “Be Yourself or Die Trying.” Yours truly couldn’t resist purchasing one.

Los Angeles punk band the Regrettes performed a 30-minute set which was very well-received. While crowding near the front of the barricades, the audience sang along with the songs and bounced up and down. By this time, it was standing room only, and the humidity was almost unbearable. The air was stagnant. A couple of people in the middle of the crowd fainted, and security quickly ushered them to safety. Welcome to outdoor concerts in Florida—it rains or feels like a sauna.

As the music techs set up the drums and equipment, I stood by the stage, waiting for the headline act. People pressed against the barricades held signs like “You saved my life” and other messages of adoration. There was a very positive atmosphere, a sense of community, and a spiritual feeling; to many, the show was more than a concert. It was something more significant. Yungblud’s lyrics are raw and honest, striking a chord with many of his “followers.” Several times the crowd broke into a chant, beckoning him to come on stage, “YUNGBLUD, YUNGBLUD!”

yungblud us tour

At 9:30 p.m., the stage was filled with bellows of white smoke and a red aura as YUNGBLUD pranced to the front of the stage, singing “superdeadfriends.” With his jet-black hair and sparkling eyes, he could be the bastard child of Gary Numan. He was dressed in black pants which said “I’m a low life” on a leg and a hand-written note pinned to his chest with safety pins. I later saw in the photos it was almost a journal saying, “I’m depressed today. I just want you to know I’m barely coping.”

yungblud us tour

He leapt and danced frenetically, quickly working up a sweat as the crowd went wild. A few crowd-surfed to the venue’s front and security assisted them over the barricades. YUNGBLUD was smiling and showing gratitude as his “disciples” sang to every song, jumped on command, and repeated “call-response lyrics” on command. He had them in the palm of his hand.

yungblud us tour

YUNGBLUD tossed bottled water to the crowd (as did security) since the outdoor temperature was staggering. At one point, he stepped off the stage, walked through the crowd, made his way against the wall, and finally settled near the merch booth. He continued singing “Fleabag” as the raucous crowd chanted. YUNGBLUD was clearly having a great time and was inspired by the showing of St. Petersburg’s love.

At another point in the show, he pointed to a female in the audience, who was quickly ushered up on stage. He asked her (and the audience) to help choose the next song. He asked, “Medication” or California.” The audience roared when “California” was announced.

yungblud us tour

The set was brought to a slower pace (and a much-needed break) as YUNGBLUD played his guitar and sang the poignant song, “Casual Sabotage.” One could hear the pain and emotion in his voice—and a few visible tears were observed in the audience as he sang, “I’m just a messed up kid/With sewn up lips/I can’t take this shit/I need to exist.”

The party resumed with “Sex Without Violence” and “Lowlife.” During the evening, an audience member handed him the Pride Flag, which he waved on stage while singing. Honestly, seeing YUNGBLUD’s show was my favorite of the year. This evening was what a show should be—frenetic energy, love for the audience, and killer music.

Yungblud tells us about his past, present, future and new festival BludFest

Following in the footsteps of David Bowie and Queen, Yungblud announces his biggest gig ever at Milton Keynes Bowl. Watch as he tells us about the epic line-up, saying thank you to his community, online beef with The 1975's Matty Healy, and what to expect from his huge new concept album; inspired by Oasis, The Verve, Suede, Madonna and more

Yungblud has announced details of his own festival BludFest – taking over Milton Keynes Bowl this summer with a stacked line-up. Find details below, and see above to watch our interview with Dom Harrison as he tells us what to expect while weighing up his past, present and future.

After teasing fans with his “biggest announcement yet “, the Doncaster artist has now revealed that the inaugural BludFest will be headed to Milton Keynes Bowl on Sunday 11 August – featuring a headline set from Yungblud alongside a line-up featuring recent collaborator Lil Yachty , as well as Soft Play , Nessa Barrett , The Damned , Lola Young , Jazmin Bean and many more to be announced.

Beyond the music, the “community” focussed event will also play host to include a ‘Make A Friend’ tent, free photobooths, a Yungblud museum, and a recreation of Camden’s iconic The Hawley Arms – the artist’s favourite pub.

Asked what it means to be headlining Milton Keynes Bowl in the footsteps of David Bowie , Queen , Green Day and Linkin Park , Yungblud told NME : “Wow! What the fuck? That’s the fucking mad, isn’t it? BludFest is happening! I’m launching my own festival. I had the idea to do it last November. I just had fucking insomnia one night and thought, ‘What’s the next thing we can do that is really a staple and just pushes the boundaries?’

“This whole thing has been about fucking with people. When press don’t write about us, when labels don’t want us, when festivals don’t take us seriously, when people don’t take my generation seriously, let’s just poke the bear every time and piss everyone off to see if we can get away with it. We’re a community, we’re getting bigger, we’re gonna do it anyway!”

Yungblud announces new festival BludFest – check out the line-up poster. Credit: Press

He continued: “We were talking and I said, ‘Where can we do it?’ People really got it excited about it and went, ‘Do you know what? Let’s do it at Milton Keynes Bowl. I’ve got that photo of Bowie in his yellow suit from ’83 and I remember [live album and movie] ‘Bullet In A Bible’ by Green Day. I was like, ‘What? We’re gonna do it there?’”

Harrison told NME that he was “excited to lean into the Britishness” of the festival, adding that “this country needs a bit of a kick up the arse, just in terms of mad concepts”.

“We’re very set in our ways in terms of, ‘This is how you do this and this is how you do that’. But you know what? Fuck it,” he said. “We’re gonna keep it really UK-themed and try to bring a bit of unity and love back to the Union Jack and try to re-define it a bit. It feels like a load of bollocks at the moment.

“It’s all about unity, love and a place that people can come to. With Yungblud, we dreamt of a world five years ago and now I’m going to physically fucking build one. This is a place that you can come to and be utterly yourself with your mates, your family or completely on your own. If people don’t know who you really are and you’re hiding it, come to fucking BludFest and do it.”

Yungblud added: “My plan is to eventually take it worldwide, but it had to start in the UK. Hopefully, it’s going to be like something no one else has seen before because my mind is mental and I wanted to put that into a physical world. When you’re walking through those gates at BludFest, you are walking into a physical manifestation of Yungblud.”

Tickets will go on sale at 10am this Friday (March 22) and will be available here .

Watch above or read below for Yungblud sitting down with NME at the Hawley Arms to tell us about why he’s doing something so huge to say thank you to his fans, looking back on his career so far, that ‘feud’ with The 1975’s Matty Healy , and his larger-than-life Britpop-inspired new concept album.

NME : Hello Yungblud. You’ve been reflecting a lot on your life and career lately online. What led you to that?

Yungblud : “To be brutally honest, it’s the first time I’ve actually realised what the fuck has gone on. From being 18-years-old and starting this thing to the end of last year, I’ve just kept my head down and kept running. I’ve never been like, ‘Woah, what the fuck?’. We played Wembley Arena last year and I wasn’t even there. All I’ve ever wanted to do was play a gig, meet people [on loop]. This has been the first moment to take stock on the good bits, the really bad bits, the fun bits, the really crazy bits and sat down with myself and thought, ‘What do I want to do next?’

“I’m 27 next, and I’ve been doing this since I was 18. It’s been like a fucking movie.”

You can’t plan that…

“You can’t plan it, no. A lot of people don’t realise that it’s me and my mates and fucking 10 iPhones – the whole time. I love the [Sex] Pistols, I loved The Damned, I love Siouxsie Sioux and I basically just studied how they belonged somewhere back in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. I just put that on an iPhone to connect to people.

“This has got bigger than any of us ever expected. How the fuck do you deal with that? We just needed to take a little bit of time off and be like, ‘Alright – what’s the coolest thing we can do next? What’s the thing that serves our fanbase the best and  remembers the people?’ That’s what it’s always been about: me meeting the people and loving them, and hoping that they love me back.”

Yungblud

Even back in 2019 when we spoke , you referred to your following “The Black Hearts Club” as a “community” rather than “fans”…

“Community or family, always. ‘Fans’ puts you on a pedestal. All my life, I just wanted to be a part of something and never felt like I did. I wanted to matter. It’s the hardest thing in the world, feeling really small. It’s really fucking dark. All anyone wants to be is seen. People want to be seen for who they are. I wanted to build a space where people could say, ‘Yo, I feel like you – that’s sick’, or ‘Woah, I didn’t know you liked that too’.

“Even if it’s outside of Yungblud, it was more about creating a space than the music in the beginning. The music was more of a vehicle to be like, ‘Here’s something that you can go too, to find each other’. Then I got really big, and it’s been mad.

“If anyone can ever be arsed to do a film about us one day, it would be mad to go into it.”

Who would play you?

“Barry Keoghan’s got the same nose as me. Put some eyeliner on him and tell him to grow his hair. He’s about the same height as me as well.”

He loves getting his kit off as well

“I love it man, same!”

yungblud live

And now you’re celebrating that community at BludFest…

“I get really buzzed off the fact that people are going to find relationships and make friends there. It’s a festival that’s all about the people and not corporate. We have the best festivals in this country, but as they get older they get more stale and less about the people. They become more about the transaction a bit fucking dated. I just want to vibe out a bit and create something cool.”

What can you tell us about how you landed on this line-up?

“I just wanted it to be artists that I think are completely real. No matter what, whatever people say, we are fucking real and person-to-person. Lola Young is one of my favourite artists from this country at the moment; I think she’s fucking rad. She’s got her own thing going on, she’s different and weird. It’s a really exciting time for British music: from Central Cee to Lola Young, it’s actually moving globally. Nessa Barrett is amazing too. I think she’s a songwriter for a new generation.

“Lil Yachty is trying to do what I’m trying to do and push the boundaries as much as possible, whether people like it or not. I also had the idea to do ‘the icon’s slot’, for an artist that we pay homage to as one that inspired it in the first place. The reason I’ve got a white streak in my hair is because of The Damned. Every year, at about 7.30pm we’re going to have an icon.”

Like the Glastonbury Legends’ slot?

“Yeah, but my own. We’ll have the icon slot then Yachty then me. It’s going to be sick. There are many more to come, but I just wanted something that transcends genre, is defiant as fuck, and is all about inspiration and imagination. It’s a celebration of unity between artists and people.

There’s a certain ‘spiciness’ to the bill for sure…

“It’s a bit fucking naughty. These artists are not beholden to anything. I know how hard it is. People either don’t want to give you a fucking leg up because you’re too dangerous, people don’t believe you, people think it’s fake, or people just think you’re a little too loud. That’s what I’ve experienced. I’m looking at these artists and saying, ‘You’re real as fuck, come and play my festival because my community and family will like you and what you’re saying needs to be heard’.”

Will there be some big collabs on the night?

“Probably. I’ve got mental ideas. Some people are going to come out that are legends – for my set and for other people’s sets. Who I’ve got coming out with me is fucking mental.

Any clues you can share?

Cool. what can you tell us about the rest of the experiences on offer.

“I’m not going to give it all away, but we’re going to have a ‘make a friend’ tent. All you’ve gotta do is be inside that tent and you’re approachable. We’re taking The Hawley Arms to the festival and are literally building it in Milton Keynes Bowl. I’m probably going to be watching bands and pouring lager, then at seven o’clock I’ll go have a shower, wash my winky and I’ll be ready to be fucking Yungblud. There’s going to be a Yungblud museum, loads of stuff looking back on what Yungblud’s done, we’ll have a BludBurger; it will be full of experiences.

“I went to Glastonbury and I loved Glastonbury because it’s all about the people, so I wanted to take a little bit of inspiration from that.”

yungblud us tour

To see that many people there must make you feel invincible and unstoppable as a unit?

“If you love Yungblud, if you hate Yungblud but are kind of interested, if you’ve never had anything to do with Yungblud, if you loved it at 15 but outgrown it, if you’ve come to it older – I want to signify that it’s going to be here forever for you.

“I am not ignorant that people come and go to fanbases. I’ve done it to many artists – but I want Yungblud to be a constant in people’s lives. If you want to turn to it and feel that feeling again, it’s there all the time. I’m going to do this every year and I hope everyone comes from everywhere. That’s why we’ve kept the ticket prices as low as we can.

Ticket prices can be pretty heavy these days. This seems like a bargain?

“That’s what I’m saying: it’s about £50 for 10 or more bands, all in. That is it; we’re not even making money – we’re just doing it for the fucking tunes. I’m excited. It’s all about saying ‘thank for this moment’. I’ve had so many arguments about the price-point but that’s it.”

You’re just here telling your truth and people who appreciate that truth come to you. So when something happens like Matty Healy having a go at you , or when someone attacks another part of your community, do you a grow a thick skin? How does that make you feel?

“Honestly, I don’t really care. That whole ’75 thing was funny to me. It was quite funny because we were in Manchester Arena, ironically, when that whole thing happened. It went on a little too long, and that’s why I found it funny. I like the dude. I think he’s a bit of an idiot, but I like his fucking tunes. It was a pretty cool thing; I was like, ‘Fuck it, right, some fucker’s talking about me, cool’. I thought about it for about two minutes before I went on stage, and never thought about it again since.”

And it didn’t escalate to legendary beef status?

“I don’t think so, no. I think if we saw each other at a party, it’s be like, ‘Alright, you fucking dickhead?’”

You both seem to stand for a lot of the same things.

“That’s what I’m saying; it’s funny! That’s the thing about being British. People like me, people don’t. Honestly, I’d be lying [if I said that] between the ages of 22 and 25 it didn’t get to me – because it really did. This year, having a little bit of time out [has helped]. It’s all bollocks; it’s all fucking entertainment. I’m just having a good time. I love my community, I love my fucking music. I fucking do, that’s all I’ve known up to now and it’s got us to here.

“Lead with your gut, love people, and I think you’ll be alright. That’s my motto.”

When you started teasing BludFest, you said that in order to move forward, you’ve got to look back. Is this the end of a chapter?

“It is the end of a chapter. I’m going into new music, which I can’t wait for you to hear. Again, I’m 27 next and for a character like me it’s either death or rebirth. This point has been amazing up to now. I’ll never lose what it’s about in terms of Yungblud and the soul of it – but musically, this next album is something I’ve been working on for two years and it’s a fucking adventure. It’s a full concept that you can play from start to finish.”

What can you tell us about that arc?

“It’s been made in England. It’s been made in the North, and I flip the narrative where I’ve sung about darkness. This album is the light. It’s all about getting through it; it’s positive. It’s that thing in your stomach when you listen to Oasis , or The Verve , or Bowie, or Suede , or Madonna . It makes me feel like I can get up today. It makes me feel like I’m invincible and that I can do anything – that’s what this new album sounds like.

“ Stone Roses , Amy Winehouse – everything that has fundamentally done work on my soul. Everything up to now has been about your heart and your head and making sure that I’m educated, that I use my voice. That I speak from the heart, meet people, be loud, be bratty, be unapologetic, be crazy. This is [me asking] ‘What does my soul want to say? What do I feel in my fingertips when I stick on [Oasis’] ‘Live Forever’, [The Verve’s] ‘Valium Skies’ or [ Primal Scream ‘s] ‘Screamadelica’?

“It’ll be a great ‘Urban Hymns’ or ’Screamadelica’. I know the old dudes are going to leather me in the comments for that but I don’t give a fuck because I’m going to go there. If you listen to it, then it’s that from a new perspective.”

So if the world is a bin-fire, you’re just kicking the bin over and saying ‘Let’s go’?

“100 per cent. It’s all about unity and love in another way. As opposed to saying, ‘Fuck you, this is the world we’ve got to get to’, this is saying ‘Come together, look each other in the eye, be human’.”

Will you be using BludFest to launch new material?

“It’s all a little masterplan. I’ve got loads of songs. In the past year since my last album, I’ve been experimenting and dropping songs in realtime. ‘Lowlife’ sounds completely different to ‘Happier’ which sounds completely different to ‘Hated’ which sounds completely different to ‘When We Die (Can We Still Get High)’ with Yachty. Where do I want to go? It’s all been about having fun with it. The answer came that I’m going to make this album that I’ve been trying to make for two years.

“There’s a mixtape of songs that I’ve written and love that might not make any sense but I think are fucking sick, so I’m just going to drop them, going into BludFest and in the meantime create a fucking opus.”

Is this like your ‘Black Parade’?

“It’s a ’Tommy’, it’s a ‘Quadrophenia’ [ The Who ]. It’s ‘A Night At The Opera’ [Queen]. It’s a ‘Black Parade’ [ My Chemical Romance ]. It’s an ‘Urban Hymns’. It’s a thing that’s intended to be listened to from start to finish, and it’s pushed me harder and made me gut myself harder than anything before.

“We locked ourselves in a studio in Leeds and just felt. We shut the world out instead of asking, ‘What’s popping on this?’ ‘What’s the state of art’ or whatever. Fuck that. Could this album have been written 50 years ago? Could this album be written in 50 years time? Fucking everything else. It just is.”

That takes balls

“I’ve always led from truth. We got fucking further than I ever thought we would get, and I can say that. I’m down. It’s all about each other. We might as well just try and reach for fucking Queen, Bowie and The Verve – because they didn’t even know what they were doing at the time. I hope people like it, because it’s fundamentally the most truthful I’ve been able to be since ’21st Century Liability’. I’ve approached this album like I’ve just started.”

LONDON (AP) — Tired of inflated ticket prices, recording artist Yungblud is launching his own affordable music festival.

Bludfest takes place on Aug. 11 in the iconic Milton Keynes Bowl, which in the past has hosted the likes of David Bowie and Green Day in Buckinghamshire, England, northwest of London.

Yungblud, whose real name is Dom Harrison, thinks that currently festivals are “unrepresentative of people” — so he’s fixing the price point of Bludfest at 49.50 pounds (around $63).

“It’s like massive ticket charges, massive prices that most of the time aren’t really going to the artist anyway,” he said of typical festival prices in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

He adds that music festivals are becoming inaccessible when really they should be about “having fun and making memories.”

Joining him on the bill are Lil Yachty, duo Soft Play, Nessa Barrett, Lola Young and Jazmin Bean. The Damned are also playing in an “icons” slot. Tickets for the event go on sale March 22.

Yungblud says he aims to make a “physical world” for him and his fanbase, and then “anyone else who wants to come along.”

The British star is also offering a “Make a Friend” option for fans attending alone. You can either chat before on a Discord channel, or go to the designated tent and meet people in person.

And he hopes to expand it out of the U.K. if it goes according to plan, taking the concept to different regions across the globe.

As well as Bludfest, Yungblud is also working on a new record, his fourth. In the past he’s written about darkness and depression, but says this one has a more positive tone.

“I’ve sung about the things that really hurt me in the beginning. And this new album flips over and it’s about the light. It’s about wanting to be alive and wanting to be with my friends and thinking I can get through it because these people have given me some hope,” he said.

And it’s not just his friends who give him hope — it’s also his fans.

“I really do have a strong faith in humanity in me because I see people every day and I see what they do for each other at my gigs,” he said.

Yungblud announces Bludfest - his own festival aimed at 'shaking up' the 'too expensive' industry

British star Yungblud announced plans for his own music festival, Bludfest, in front of about 500 fans at a secret gig in Camden, north London. The festival will also include performances from stars including Little Yachty and The Damned.

Speaking to Sky News before sharing the announcement, the singer said he was fed up with gigs and festivals being too expensive.

British star Yungblud has announced his own music festival - saying the industry is too expensive and needs to be "shaken up".

The genre-bending singer-songwriter will headline Bludfest, a one-day festival at Milton Keynes Bowl which will also feature acts including rapper and singer Little Yachty, punk duo Soft Play, and singer-songwriters Nessa Barrett, Lola Young and Jazmin Bean, plus The Damned in an "icons" slot.

Yungblud, whose real name is Dom Harrison, announced the event at a secret gig in Camden, north London, attended by about 500 fans.

Speaking to Sky News before sharing the announcement, the singer said he was fed up with gigs and festivals being too expensive.

"I think like it all needs shaking up a little bit," he says. "I believe that the festivals, gigs and plans that are in motion aren't representative of the people out there.

"I believe that gigs are too expensive, festivals are too expensive, and I just wanted to work to create something that has been completely done by me and my team to show that, you know what? It can be done better. It can be more representative."

Tickets for Bludfest will be £49.50 - much cheaper than the price for day tickets for some of the big festivals.

'We need to make music about people again'

"A lot of my mates, a lot of my family, my community, my fan base out there, can't afford tickets, and it's a real thing," Harrison says. "Everyone kind of brushes over it. And it's like, oh yeah… that's just the way it is. I'm like, why is that just the way it is? That's what I've always thought.

"I believe I'm so lucky to have [my fans] and I want to reflect how much they mean to me by going, like, we can actually change something and make a difference here because it needs to happen…

"I hope this starts this movement towards that, making music about people again."

Yungblud has almost 4 million followers on Instagram and more than 5 million on TikTok, and his second and third albums both reached number one. He says he wanted to create something that is "all about community, about bringing people together".

The festival will include a Make A Friend tent, for those attending on their own. And the star himself has promised to spend some time behind the bar before he takes to the stage.

"A lot of people don't feel like they can go to shows alone, they don't feel like they can go to events alone," he says. "This is the one festival, if you go on your own, you're not going to be lonely…

"I have a dream where like [someone says in the future], 'I met my partner at Bludfest 2026, and now we've got kids', or whatever."

'Keep up - or get left behind'

One of the other criticisms facing festivals in recent years has been gender splits, with Glastonbury announcing two female headliners for the first time ever this year after having three all-male acts close each night on the Pyramid Stage last year.

"It should be a conversation, that's the thing," says Harrison. "I laugh, me, because it's like, that should be it. We've got to do it right. You've got to have representation in terms of race, in terms of gender and sexuality, and that's just the way the world is now. So like, keep up - or get left behind."

Following the pandemic and amid the cost of living crisis, the country's smaller festivals are under more financial strain than ever.

According to the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF), which represents events ranging from 500 to 80,000 capacity, some 21 UK festivals have now announced a postponement, cancellation or complete closure so far in 2024.

Among them is Nibley Festival, which is based in the Cotswolds and has been running since 2007 - organisers announced last week that this year's event will be the last, saying rapidly rising production costs mean it is no longer viable.

Organisers of Bradford's Bingley Festival, which featured acts including Noel Gallagher 's High Flying Birds, Ian Brown and Happy Mondays in 2023, have similarly said they cannot afford to put the event on this year and have called for help from the local council.

The AIF has warned that without support, the UK could see more than 100 festivals disappear throughout the year - after 36 cancellations in 2023 - and is campaigning for a VAT reduction from 20% to 5% on festival tickets.

For Yungblud, he hopes to start small and create something bigger.

"My plan is to take it worldwide eventually, but it's starting in the UK right here at home on 11 of August in Milton Keynes Bowl. I can't wait to see what people make of it."

Bludfest takes place at Milton Keynes Bowl on 11 August, with tickets going on sale on Friday at 10am.

Yungblud Sets Up His Own Budget-Friendly Music Festival to Counter High Ticket Costs

I n an effort to combat steep ticket prices, music sensation Yungblud introduces an affordable alternative with his self-created music festival.

The event named Bludfest is scheduled for August 11 at the famed Milton Keynes Bowl, with a history of hosting esteemed artists such as David Bowie and Green Day , located in England’s Buckinghamshire, a stone’s throw from London.

Determined to exhibit fairness, Yungblud, born Dom Harrison, is determined to showcase festivals in a true light — one that fairly represents the people. Therefore, Bludfest tickets have been economically set at 49.50 pounds (close to $63).

In conversation with The Associated Press, Yungblud criticized the over-the-top costs associated with numerous music festivals, arguing that these costs generally bypass the performers.

His vision is one in which festivals emphasize camaraderie and everlasting memories, rather than expense.

The lineup features notable names like Lil Yachty , and acts such as Soft Play, Nessa Barrett, Lola Young, and Jazmin Bean. Additionally, spectators will get a chance to see The Damned in an exemplary “icons” segment. The box office opens for ticket sales on March 22.

Yungblud’s goal is to build a “physical world” that he and his followers can share, inviting anyone interested to join.

To accommodate fans who arrive solo, the festival includes a “Make a Friend” feature, presenting opportunities to mingle pre-event on Discord or at a planned on-site tent.

Yungblud hopes that if the festival succeeds, it could become an international staple, making its way to various corners of the world.

Beyond festival planning, Yungblud is also engrossed in creating his fourth album. Having previously explored darker themes like pain and depression, his upcoming work focuses on finding light and embracing life.

“I’ve sung about the things that really hurt me in the beginning. And this new album flips over and it’s about the light. It’s about wanting to be alive and wanting to be with my friends and thinking I can get through it because these people have given me some hope,” he shared with optimism.

His fans, along with his friends, are a crucial source of his hope. He explains, “I really do have a strong faith in humanity in me because I see people every day and I see what they do for each other at my gigs,” reflecting a deep bond between him and his audience.
