Last Chance Tours

Climate change has a significant impact on vulnerable tourist destinations, in the meanwhile, attention to this recent phenomenon has increased and this new phenomenon is known as last-chance tourism.

The emergence of Last Chance Tourism (LCT) is an adaptive response of the global tourism industry to the threats and opportunities of climate change.

Nature and cultural attractions are deemed to be dissipated so there are some travelers who want to grab the opportunity to visit them before vanishing from sight. This travel behavior involves tourists increasingly traveling to destinations they perceive to be critically threatened while contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change impacts in these very places.

Top 28 Iran tour operators & Travel Agencies in 2024 + Description

best Iran tour operator

Why do you need a travel agency(best Iran tour operators) anyway? You really don’t. You can buy your own flights, book your hotel off 3rd party websites, and Google basically everything else when you land. Budgeting 100 USD a day should be more than enough (covers accommodation, transport, food, entrance tickets, shopping).

Taxis and buses are common in urban centers and you can find almost all attractions and how to reach them on Google Maps.

But Iran is a gigantic untapped country with thousands of years of history. It’s in the top 20 biggest countries, bigger than Egypt, Turkey, and even Germany. It’s got 10 urban areas, 26 UNESCO World Heritage sites, and a million different hidden gems in between.

And you probably only have 7-14 days to see, experience, and sense it all. Which you can’t, and really, shouldn’t.

26 Iran UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Each traveler has unique interests, and that’s exactly where travel agencies shine. Most can help you organize your itinerary with only the things you’re passionate about. Agencies help save you valuable time and money by giving you exactly what you came to see. After all, Iran is still a developing destination, which means you will need some assistance to make sure everything goes as planned.

Now, there’s a clear distinction between agencies that once used to innovate and agencies that continue to evolve to today’s standards. Some focus on building relationships with resellers and international organizations, while others prioritize relationships with individual travelers.

We put together a complete list to guide you as you pick the travel partner you chose to help plan your trip to Iran.

Here are the top 30 Iranian tour operators you can consider for future travels:

Has anyone travelled in Iran with this tour company. Not very many reviews out there, although the tour company has provided some references. Keen to hear anyone's experience if travelled recently with this operator http://www.irangashttour.com

I realise there is an element of risk with travelling to Iran but my partner and I are ok with this.

I was recently there, I didnt travel with gasht tours but came across some of their guides and clients around the damavand area. The guides I met were very friendly and had excellent english, they also had good vehicles and satisfied clients around them.

Enjoy Iran!

There is no risk in travelling to Iran, neither is there a necessity to go with a tour company, unless you're US American.

I travelled to Iran in 2003 and we used Gasht Tour, I can't recommend them highly enough, particularly the guide we had Abbass. We met the owner (Mr Ghajar) and he even invited us to have a meal at his house, unbelievable hospitality but thats Iranians for you! Such nice people. It was FAR cheaper than going through a US agent. It was a bit scary because we took a chance without knowing anything much about the company and paid in cash for everything on arrival. Overall I thought the cost was very reasonable. The only thing I would say is that they really want to make sure you see everything on your itinerary so if you want a more leisurely time make sure to state it in advance!

Highly recommended, I'm a Brit and my husband's an American and we really enjoyed our trip which was very memorable. You can see a trip report on my blog

http://somuchmoretosee.blogspot.com/p/trip-reports.html

I decided to go ahead and book it, I write this from Isfahan right now. Our guide is excellent and the people are very friendly. Cash on arrival in $ US is their preferred payment as they cannot accept credit cards from outside Iran due to trade embargo. Visa fees do vary, we were told €50 on arrival but visa office demanded €70. Amazing place to visit!

So glad to hear you're enjoying Iran, I wish we were in Isfhan it's fascinating!

My wife and I went on a tour with Gasht Tours in October 2013, and were very satisfied. I recommend Gasht Tours.

One of the negative comments about them complains about the hotel. Gasht Tours offers a range of hotel accommodation at corresponding prices. If you choose the cheapest hotel option, you'll get what you pay for. We chose a better hotel option and were very happy with the hotels.

Bottom line: Gasht Tours gave us good value for money, a good experience, and we recommend them.

Day4: Isfahan

As the 17th-century capital of the Safavid Empire, Isfahan was one of the world’s greatest cities architecturally striking, wealthy beyond imagination, and politically powerful with Europeans, Ottomans, Indians, and Chinese coming to its court– the heart of a vast Persian Empire that stretched from the Euphrates River in present-day Iraq to the Oxus River in Afghanistan. Indeed, its grandeur inspired the rhyming proverb, Isfahan Nesf-e Jahan (Isfahan is half of the World). Imam Square of Isfahan is one of the largest city Squares in the world, and was Built by Shah Abbas I the Great at the beginning of the 17th century. This amazing site in 1979 was designated a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. Must see this place. Imam square is surrounded by important historical buildings from the Safavid era. The Shah Mosque is situated on the south side of this square. On the west side, you can find Ali Qapu Palace. Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque is situated on the eastern side of this square and the northern side opens into the Isfahan Grand Bazaar. They are an impressive testimony to the level of social and cultural life in Persia during the Safavid era. Afterward, we will visit Chehel Sotoun, literally meaning forty columns, which is a royal pavilion that was built by Shah Abbas I as a place to receive ambassadors and international guests. The Chehel Sotun Palace, along with eight other gardens, is registered as a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE under the name of the Persian Gulf. Overnight in Isfahan.

One of the other highlights of Iran group tour is Kerman which is the third highest city in Iran and thereby, has been given the nickname “the roof of Iran” and “Siberia of the South”. Among the many artistic landmarks of Kerman, Rayen Castle is one of the most substantially significant of them all. It is claimed that Rayen Castle is the second largest adobe structure in the world after Arg-e Bam(Bam Citadel), the spectacular UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE .

It might seem interesting to know that until just 150 years ago, Rayen Castle was home to its residents. Its construction dates back to the Sasanid era(224-651 A.D), before the emergence of Islam.

No ruler could have ever invaded this castle during history and this is what Rayen Castle takes pride in. Overnight in Kerman.

Day12: Shiraz

Our excursion for Today is Persepolis. Founded by Darius I in 518 B.C., Persepolis was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire as another highlight of the Iran group tour.

It was built on an immense half-artificial, half-natural terrace, where the king of kings created an impressive palace complex inspired by Mesopotamian models. The importance and quality of the monumental ruins make it a unique archaeological site.

It seems that Darius the first planned this impressive complex of palaces not only as the seat of government but also, and primarily, as a showplace and a spectacular center for the receptions and festivals of the Achaemenid kings and their empire such as Nowroz (New Year, March 21st) . This amazing place 1979 was designated a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. The next is Necropolis(Naghsh-e Rostam).

Opposite Rahmat mountain, ten minutes drive to the north, proudly stands the Necropolis, the magnificent burial place of Achaemenid kings. The site also provides seven bas-reliefs dating back to Elamite and Sassanid periods.

Stay overnight in Shiraz. We invite you to try an unforgettable experience of  Iran family dinner  with an Iranian family to get acquainted with their lifestyle, hospitality, and traditions. Spending an evening with an Iranian family is as valuable as a long trip to Iran .

Day13: Shiraz

Perfectly hidden between willow and plane trees, cool weather and cozy atmosphere and being away from the bustle of the city, Ghalat Village is a beautiful oasis to see. If you are interested in rural tourism or hiking a mountain, this is an exceptional choice for you. Ghalat Village is located almost 36 Km from the northwestern side of Shiraz. The city of flowers and poems is already filled and surrounded by gardens and greeneries and Ghalat Village is definitely one of the best of them.

Ghalat is an old form of the word village and it means somewhere that has steamed springs and good weather. This village is perfect for those who are tired of traffic jams and sound pollution; you can find absolute peacefulness in this place. You will spend the last day of your trip in Qalat village and enjoy. There are three waterfalls in Ghalat Village that are worth visiting. That is why we offer you an Iran group tour.

Two of them have easy access, but you might find difficulty reaching the third. Also, you can see two rivers that pass through the village, and beside the banks of them, you can find local flowers, and medicinal herbs, such as thyme and oregano. Do not forget to take a deep breath to inhale some fresh air into your lungs while you are listening to the sound of water and smelling these aromatic plants.

Hiking mountain is another favorite activity that you can consider doing when you are in this picturesque village. You are already 2065 meters above the sea level, imagine how it would feel if you climb higher. In Iran group tour, we have decided and tried to offer you the history, religion, culture, nature and all you need in 14 days.

It is a wonder that how you could be in a desert in the center of Iran, and then within four hours, you could reach jungles and high peaks, stepped tea fields, and rice paddies.

Rasht is the capital of Gilan province, which is located on the southwestern shore of the Caspian Sea. Our trip to Rasht has a different story of its own.

Well, the Caspian Sea means high humidity, hot sticky air, and a lot of awful hair days.

When the destination is Rasht, you can choose many roads on the map to get there. Why is the road selection ceremony important? Because you are going to be mesmerized by nature’s beauty.

Go from any road, the beauty of Gilan province and the soaring mountains covered with sky-high trees surround you, even if you are in the middle of terrible shocks from the bus you’re on that is passing Heyran.

There are several reasons to go to Rasht: The people, the accent, the Food, Shahrdari square, the daily market, and Mohtasham Garden.

With these in our mind, a sharp-eyed professional camera, high curiosity, and a hungry adventure appetite, we will start from Shahrdari Square.

The tail of this square goes back to before the revolution when Rasht was highly regarded by the Allied Front during World War II.

It was the main center of British support for the Soviet Union and a good place for British troops to be stationed. Later, when the war ended, the Soviet Union chose Rasht to recruit more comrades.

For this reason, Shahrdari Square does not have an Iranian atmosphere at all. The architecture of the building is completely Russian-European. In the last few years, it has been paved though. With numerous cafes and restaurants, a cinema, and a theatre, it has become a center for entertainment and of course, getting to know the Rasht community.

Shahrdari Square leads you to the famous daily market of Rasht.

The daily market is the best place to interact with people and knows their character. They sell all their products with pride because it is the result of their efforts.

No wonder does not know most of the vegetables they sell. The sellers (who are mostly the original farmer) take time and talk about them so you know what is it exactly that you are buying. When they talk to you is when that sweet accent is more audible.

The people of Rasht all speak Persian, but they have a very unique dialect (more a language really!) that has long been part of the northern branch of the Persian language. This branch, also known as “Gilaki”, has the Avestan language as her ancestor.

Gilan province has famous singers and a rich style in Persian folklore music. On the other hand, they have many folk songs, sung on farmland, sung while playing, at events such as weddings, engagements and even when selling their products in the market.

One of the most interesting advertisement methods in Rasht’s daily market is a man, who sings a folk song with the theme of, for example, eggplant to sell more of the products.

It is their job and profession. In exchange for money, they sang for the products of each seller in Gilaki, amused people, and indeed excited them to buy.

Olives, olive oil, pomegranate, narsharab (or Robe Anar), Reshteh Khoshkar, Dalar, or Dalal (a special salt marinated with a special mint), local eggs, Chouchagh (Eryngium Planum), etc. can be found in Rasht market.

The beauty of the market is the freshness of its products. Rasht market has a great variety of colors. And it is a good place for social photography, studying the daily life of people, and anthropology.

Fatigue and a lot of walking in Rasht do not matter because there is a place in every corner where you can try local food.

In recent months, Rasht has been registered as one of the creative food cities in UNESCO, and the reason for this is the rich food culture and very high diversity of local food in Rasht.

We learned that Rasht is a city that represents itself through its local cuisine, aside from its rich history and culture and therefore preserving its traditions.

The people of this city have long created such pleasant tastes by combining the simplest foods that today people from all over the country and even the world, travel to Rasht to try its local dishes:

Sour Kabab and Sour Chicken: In the preparation of sour Kabab or sour chicken, beef, mutton, or chicken are soaked in a delicious sauce, which is the distinguishing factor of this type of kabab. This sauce includes chopped walnuts, onion, garlic, pomegranate paste, and pomegranate juice.

Baghali Ghatogh:  Vegetarians no need to worry in Rasht, there are plenty of dishes for their appetite. There is no meat in this Baghali Ghatogh. Since vegetables are highly used in Gilaki dishes, nourish-wise they are ideal. Baghali Ghatogh’s ingredients are Baghali (broad bean or fava bean), garlic, dill and various spices, and eggs.

Pala Kabab: Warning! This kabab might be your death, once you start there’s no end to it, you can not want it! Pala Kebab is similar to Chelow Kabab but much tastier.

Mirza Ghassemi: Yet another dish for vegetarians. Mirza Ghassemi’s ingredients are has grilled eggplant, garlic, oil, tomatoes, paste, spices, and eggs.

Vavishka:  As the name speaks for itself this dish is Russian, mostly served in Gilan. The Scots also have something named Haggis which is the same. It is a slightly heavy food and is cooked from the heart and liver of mutton or minced meat, onions, paste, potatoes, tomatoes, and various spices.

Food tourism is fun.

Now, why you should love Mohtasham Garden? Mohtasham Garden is one of the famous gardens of Rasht and belonged to one of the lords of Rasht. It has a pergola mansion in the middle with a very large and tree-lined area that reaches the river from one side.

You should see this garden both in spring and summer (of course, we do not recommend summer), in autumn and when “winter is coming”. The Iranian-European composition of this garden has given it a special face, which today has turned it into a large park in the heart of Rasht.

The good thing about Rasht is that it is very close to other scenic areas of Gilan province.

For example, Rudkhan Castle, which was built at an altitude of 800 meters on the tip of a mountain with a steep slope. To conquest it, you must keep pushing forward without giving up, then you shall reach a place where there are you, the mystical mist, and the sky, only.

Fuman, A nostalgic small town with abundant natural products and excellent weather. They all call Fuman, the city of Platanus as well.

Rasht is also very close to Lahijan, where its main product is black and green tea and local cookies.

Bandar-e Anzali is the closest port to Rasht and introduces you to the Caspian Sea. You can easily get rid of all your stress and worries, laugh a lot and relax.

Rasht is not a place cast aside when you are planning a journey to Iran. Iranian tourist cities, such as Shiraz and Isfahan, are extremely attractive for those who come to Iran for the first time. But those who are looking for special un-known cultures, local foods, and different climates, should travel to northern Iran, especially to Gilan province.
