Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.

When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.

We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.

Hotel Arts Barcelona

If you want one of the best views in Barcelona, check into Hotel Arts Barcelona, an architectural landmark towering over the beachfront. Designed by Bruce Graham for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics, this 44-story steel-and-blue-glass exposed-beam skyscraper has become an icon of the city. The views are stunning, either out to the sea, toward the city or in some cases, both.

Inside, you’ll find top-notch dining and drinking (Enoteca Paco Pérez is a standout), a sky-high spa with pampering treatments, waterfront and infinity swimming pools and an art collection with more than 500 works as well as an art gallery. While the hotel sits near the marina and the beachfront Barceloneta district, it’s also seven miles from Barcelona El Prat airport and two miles from the city’s ancient Gothic Quarter.

  • One of the first and finest of the city’s modern luxury properties, this Barcelona hotel still towers over them all, literally.
  • Check out Frank Gehry's gleaming copper Fish sculpture next to the infinity pool. Or stroll the hotel's more than 10,700-square-foot garden, where the copper fish is based.
  • 43 The Spa, found on Hotel Arts’ 43rd floor, presents numerous signature treatments.
  • The beach is only a few steps away. Locals and visitors covet a patch of sand when the weather turns hot.
  • Impressive museums are not far from the hotel. MACBA, Barcelona’s contemporary art museum, is a 14-minute drive, while the wonderful Museu Picasso, displaying many of the artist’s works from his youth, is an eight-minute drive.
  • Barcelona is synonymous with architect Antoni Gaudí and his Catalan Modernism. Don’t miss his amazing Sagrada Familia Cathedral (10 minutes by car) or his more intimate Casa Batlló (12 minutes). Barcelona is a contemporary city full of modernist architecture and artworks all over.
  • Food is plentiful in Barcelona, and tapas reign supreme. Tapas can be found in virtually every bar, which proffers at least a few items. Or visit the bustling La Boqueria public market for fun snacks or small bites. Besides the hotel, high-end dining is available all over the city.
  • Though Barcelona is a fun and easy place to stroll, this property is a long walk from some parts of the city, so cabs or Uber may be needed.
  • Staff is extremely efficient and friendly, with English spoken throughout the property.
  • The resort offers 483 accommodations in three categories: guest rooms and suites, Club-level rooms and suites, and penthouses.
  • Well-appointed rooms come with amenities such as Bang & Olufsen audiovisual systems, bathrooms with a separate tub and hydro-shower stall, and a control panel for the lighting, blinds and music.
  • For a more exclusive experience, reserve Club-level accommodations. It will give you a dedicated team of hosts, private check-in and access to the Club Lounge, which serves food and beverages(including hors d’oeuvres and cocktails) throughout the day.

Spanning floors 34 to 43, the 28 lavish penthouses resemble private apartments. They boast one to three bedrooms and impressive perks ranging from airport transfers to special shopping experiences.

  • The hotel’s location is great for seeing Barcelona’s geography from on high. Some suites have telescopes.
  • Travel all over the globe with drinks at Parallel 41, where prominent head mixologist Diego Baud finds cocktail inspiration from cities that cross Barcelona’s latitude, including Istanbul; New York; Porto, Portugal; Rome; and Shenyang, China.
  • At The Pantry, enjoy regional specialties that feature zero-mile ingredients in a dimly lit, speakeasy-like space.
  • Take a seat on Marina Coastal Food’s terrace to get a view of the Mediterranean while you savor seafood tapas. At sunset, the casual restaurant shifts its menu to fresh grilled fish and paellas.
  • For breakfast, go to Lokal for its Mediterranean and international buffet or all-day restaurant Bites for a quick meal and coffee.

  • Rooms have Nespresso coffeemakers, minibars, and Bang & Olufsen audio
  • Bathrooms feature separate tubs and walk-in rain showers

Bottom Line

The luxurious Hotel Arts Barcelona is a massive 483-room property with a huge range amenities like six in-house restaurants and bars, including two Michelin-starred restaurants, a 43rd floor spa, a modern gym, an outdoor pool and whirlpool, a hair salon, luxury shops, and business amenities, plus 24-hour room and concierge service. Spacious, posh rooms and penthouses feature panoramic windows and amenities like Nespresso coffeemakers, minibars, Bang & Olufsen audio equipment, plus bathrooms with separate tubs and walk-in showers. The beachfront location is beautiful, though it's about a half-hour hike to the Ciutat Vella (old town) and Las Ramblas. Extra fees for parking, breakfast, and Wi-Fi can be another drawback. Pets allowed, oyster hotel review, huge, luxurious beachfront hotel with an abundance of amenities.

Striking from the get-go, Hotel Arts Barcelona is situated along the beach right across from the massive and iconic Peix fish sculpture in a hard-to-miss 44-story glass high-rise with exposed steel beams. Originally built for the 1992 Olympics, the hotel has maintained its grand, sophisticated, and modern style in almost every nook and cranny from the restaurants to the outdoor pool to the epic 43rd-floor spa. The lobby lounge exudes class with chandeliers, marble floors, fresh flowers, and plush velvety couches, while grand hallways take on a museum-feel with an original collection of paintings and other art. Other than the price, this huge hotel has few downsides, and guests include a range of business guests, travelers, and tourists, including couples and families.

Excellent beachfront location, but rather removed from Ciutat Vella sights

One of the few downsides of this hotel may be its distance from local sites, though its proximity to the sea is hard to beat. The hotel is situated right along the beach in Olympic Harbor (Port Olimpic), just a few minutes walk to the beach, marina, and promenade, a seven-minute walk to the zoo, and a 13-minute walk from La Barceloneta, a little enclave of restaurants and bars near the water. The edge of Ciutat Vella (old city) is reachable in about 20 minutes on foot and La Rambla is about a 30-minute walk or 10-minute taxi ride. Several public transport options are in walking distance, making La Sagrada Familia accessible in 21 minutes. Barcelona Airport is a 15- to 20-minute drive.

Huge, luxurious rooms and penthouses with massive bathrooms and posh amenities

Even entry-level rooms at Hotel Arts Barcelona are massive (over 480 square feet) and amenity-packed. Refined, contemporary, and decidedly high-end, rooms feature a natural beige, brown, and cream color palette with wall-to-wall carpeting, soft upholstered furniture, and long windows that look out onto the city or sea. Rooms have huge, modern bathrooms with separate tubs and walk-in rainfall showers, upscale Bang & Olufsen audio equipment, individual climate control, Nespresso coffeemakers, generously stocked minibars, safes, flat-screen TVs, and a selection of reading material. Bathrooms are equipped with magnifying mirrors, hairdryers, bathrobes, and high-end Asprey toiletries. Wi-Fi, though, costs an extra fee.

In addition to the entry-level Deluxe Rooms and Suites, the hotel is home to 28 Penthouses, the largest of which is over 4,300 square feet and features a huge terrace and personal gym. Upgraded rooms offer more upscale decor, too, with handcrafted wood furniture and original art.

Highlights include Michelin-starred restaurants, a huge spa, outdoor pool, and boutiques

The hotel has such a huge range of luxury amenities, it's almost like a mini city in itself. There are six in-house restaurants and bars, including two Michelin-starred restaurants, alfresco dining, and big breakfast buffets (for an extra fee). The hotel's elegant spa is situated on the 43rd floor and features outdoor terraces with loungers and astounding views, steam baths, saunas, a whirlpool, and a the requisite big treatment menu. A bright, modern gym is equipped with cardio machines -- like treadmills and ellipticals with individual screens -- weight-lifting equipment, and other workout accessories. There's also an outdoor whirlpool and pool with lounge areas (including hammocks, sunbeds, and drink service), though the pool can sometimes get crowded and isn't heated. Adding to the city-in-a-city feel, guests will find clothing boutiques, a hair and beauty salon, kid-focused amenities, and a business center that almost looks like a mini Apple store on the premises. The hotel has a plethora of meeting and event rooms, which can host up to 1,000 guests. Staff are extremely attentive and offer a huge range of services, including 24-hour concierge and 24-hour room service. Wi-Fi costs an extra fee. Self- and valet-parking are also available for an extra fee.
