Oceania Cruises Launches Simply MORE Program to Offer More Included Amenities

With free airfare, shore excursions, and an upgraded drink package, Oceania’s simply MORE aims to give cruisers an all-inclusive experience.

Premium-plus cruise line Oceania Cruises has announced a new program, simply MORE , that will offer cruisers a range of complimentary amenities including free roundtrip airfare, free airport transfers, free shore excursions, and a free beverage package for every guest.

The new program, which will apply to all new reservations beginning July 1, 2023 for sailings departing October 1, 2023 or later has been designed to elevate the guest experience according to a press release from Oceania.

Simply MORE will replace Oceania’s OLife Choice program, which offered a limited range of inclusions.

“Over the past 20 years, we have continued to adapt and evolve to the wants and needs of our valued trade partners and guests. We are always seeking to enhance the Oceania Cruises experience and raise the bar in offering the best value in luxury cruising. So, we asked our key audiences, guests, and travel partners, what they wanted, and that was simplicity, choice and value. Through our new  simply  MORE value promise, they now have all three,” said  Frank A. Del Rio , President of Oceania Cruises.

Simply MORE from Oceania will make the brand more all-inclusive

Oceania’s new  simply  MORE promise will include an easier arrival and departure experience with complimentary roundtrip airfare and airport transfers, a shore excursion credit of up to $1,600 per stateroom, and a comprehensive beverage package (available during lunch and dinner) featuring dozens of vintage Champagnes, premium wines, and international beers.

The new inclusions are in addition to Oceania’s already-included amenities, which feature gourmet dining at specialty restaurants, complimentary soft drinks including fine teas and coffees, sodas, and Vero still and sparkling water, 24-hour room service, unlimited Wi-Fi, and fitness classes.

“Thanks to the launch of  simply  MORE, our guests will enjoy even more value, more choice, and more convenience than ever before,” said Del Rio.

“For me, the cornerstone of this exciting new value promise is the generous credit offered to every guest to be spent on shore excursions of their choice. Oceania Cruises is renowned for our imaginative and immersive itineraries, journeying to every part of the globe, which are enhanced even further by our industry-leading array of enriching adventures ashore,” Del Rio continued.

Using the simply MORE shore excursion credit on an Oceania cruise

Oceania Cruises offers more than 8,000 unique tour choices in its 600-plus ports of call. Cruisers can choose to explore iconic cities, lesser-known gems, and tranquil islands during a single sailing thanks to the line’s destination-intensive itineraries.

oceania cruises excursion packages

With the new simply MORE program, Oceania guests will now be able to take advantage of a generous shore excursion credit to choose tours on each voyage—but the credit amount will vary based on the length of your itinerary.

Shore excursion credit amounts will range from $600 per stateroom for an itinerary of seven to nine days, up to $1,600 per stateroom on sailings of 31 to 35 days.

The included credit can be redeemed for any available excursions, including Food & Wine Trails Tours and Culinary Discovery Tours , sustainability-focused Go Green Tours as well as luxurious private tours with a dedicated car and driver.

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll get for a free shore excursion credit on different Oceania sailing lengths, per stateroom:

According to Del Rio, “The  simply  MORE shore excursion credit can be applied to any and all of our tours, from witnessing an active volcano from a helicopter in Montserrat and learning how to tend and herd sheep at a shepherd school in Northern Spain on one of our Go Local tours to enjoying an insider’s view of iconic modernistic buildings in the Finnish capital of Helsinki on a Beyond Blueprints excursion, which takes travelers behind the scenes of landmark buildings with an architectural guide.”

Simply MORE’s new included drink package

Oceania’s new  simply  MORE concept, which replaces the brand’s OLife Choice program, will now include a beverage package featuring free premium-label Champagnes and wines along with over 20 American and international beers, during lunch and dinner.

“Our guests appreciate fine food and fine wine, and we have always included all gourmet specialty dining. Now we are thrilled to be able to offer them a generous array of wines—not just house pours—to choose from, plus Champagnes and beers to enjoy too. With over three dozen wine choices on offer, and a broad range of beers as well as premium-label sparkling wines and Champagnes, there is something to suit every palate,” Del Rio commented.

Free airfare and transfers for Oceania cruisers

Oceania’s new press release states that cruisers will enjoy free roundtrip airfare and airport transfers as part of the simply MORE program.

The brand hasn’t yet released details about potential restrictions or exclusions, so check Oceania’s Promotions Terms and Conditions page for the most updated information.

Included Wi-Fi with the simply MORE program on Oceania

With Oceania’s old OLife Choice program, the free internet amenity included one login per stateroom, except for cruisers sailing in Owner’s, Vista, and Oceania Suites, who received two logins per suite.

According to Oceania’s latest release, the new simply MORE concept promises to offer unlimited Wi-Fi for all guests.

If the credit is only for shore excursions, it is a downgrade. I usually book my own experiences while onshore or many times in the Caribbean, I just enjoy the ship and the spa. Also, I drink very little so paying a higher cruise fare for something I don’t really use is a downgrade. One reason I enjoy Oceania is you pay for what you actually want or use. If I go on Regent, I have paid for their shore excursions which are great for the older crowd, but I prefer to do my own thing and paying for something twice isn’t smart. So I have chosen Oceania over Regent or Silversea because of this

Hi Travis, you bring up some very valid points! Although lots of cruisers would enjoy having the included amenities (if you were planning on buying them à la carte anyway), it doesn't make sense if you're not planning to use them. I'd 100% rather that shore excursion credit be a spa credit instead :D Thanks for stopping by and happy cruising!

Why Book Private Shore Excursions

Lower prices than the cruise lines.

Prices from many independent shore excursion companies are often lower than the cruise by up to 40%. In the unusual instance that the price is higher, it is justified with higher, more in-depth experiences. Call your Key Traveler shore excursion specialist, 1-866-666-7245, for comparisons.   READ MORE

Smaller Groups

In most major ports, your Key Traveler advisor can arrange for excursions and tours for as few as one or two couples.

Call your Key Traveler advisor, 1-866-666-7245 for details on private excursions.

Will I miss the Ship?

Both Oceania Cruises shore excursion tours and private tour companies are keenly aware of the ship’s departure schedule. Oceania tour guides are constantly in touch with the ship in the event an excursion is running late. Private tour companies, by the very nature of smaller groups, can manage their time very efficiently.

While exploring different destinations, you can choose to navigate on your own or reserve a customized shore excursion. Activities vary by voyage and itinerary, though many expeditions promote cultural immersion through art, history and cuisine. Excursions might include shadowboxing demonstrations in Shanghai or tango dancing in Buenos Aires.

Consult Oceania's Shore Excursions page to peruse available excursions and check each expedition's required activity level, which can range from easy to strenuous. If you're planning your shore activities online, you'll have your choice between Your World Collection and Unlimited Passport Collection excursions (value packages with reduced prices), or individual bookings.

Oceania also features extended land programs that will add extra days to your trip before or after your cruise. A typical land program covers a one- to five-night stay in upscale accommodations, as well as most meals, transportation costs and guided tours in a specific port of call. Cool Cruiser

Has anyone purchased the Unlimited Shore Excursion package from Oceania?  If so, can you tell me if it is worthwhile.  Thanks

Unfortunately there is no simple answer and you have to do the math.

If the excursions on your cruise are available, look at those you wish to buy and compare that cost to the unlimited package. Certain excursion have a small extra fee even with the unlimited package.

In addition, many people like to do their own excursions at a lower cost or a combination of ship's and DIY tours. Not to mention O Life included excursions.

Gotta do the math.

Ken the cruiser

Ken the cruiser

We have always found that taking the OLife excursion option and then booking enough extra excursions to get to the YWC 25% deal always worked best for us.

Thanks

Thanks so much for your responses.  I think I have my answer.

3,000+ Club

Agree with Paulchill and the very smart Big Bang Theory Cast- do the math.

We like DIY and private tours and find a daily ship excursion to be tedious.  So we’ve never done unlimited.

We’ve done O life with excursions and were satisfied.  But we

carefully researched and cherry picked excursions of value.  And you must reserve the tours by a deadline prior to the cruise.

First, note that it seems Oceania excursions are inflated in price first. We bought OLife which added "8 free excursions" and we paid $800 for that, or basically $100 an excursion. We could pick excursions "up to $199" but many ports didn't have any of these, and some excursions were under $100. We averaged about $130 per excursion, which we paid $100 each for, but do note they are overpriced to start with. You could easily book these same excursions on your own outside of Oceania for cheaper.

If we each book one more we get the 25% discount off the cheapest one, and since they are overpriced, we basically pay "normal" prices. The "unlimited" excursions is just an other continuation. Maybe you can save a bit off the overpriced excursions, but you won't save much. You could also pay more if you aren't careful. You need to go on excursions at each port and maybe more than one. If they miss a port, you will probably lose out.

Unless you are tied to Oceania excursions, you will save more booking your own, and it will always be cheaper and you will have more flexibility.  So the Oceania packages are slightly better than a bad deal, no matter how you arrange it.

One caveat - you probably have to share these private excursions with an average of anywhere from 6 to 10 people for them to be cheaper. If it’s only for 2 people they are most likely to be more expensive. They are definitely more flexible - provided you can get a group that can agree on itinerary (like shopping vs no shopping, etc)

Are you saying Oceania will STILL have an excursion of only 2 people show up? Or even 6 or 10? Not likely. Certainly we are talking like excursions here not private vs. 25 people.

9 minutes ago, ano said: Are y ou saying Oceania will STIL L have an e xcurs ion of on ly 2 p e opl e show up?

No - what I am saying is that for private excursions to be cheaper than Oceania’s excursions you usually need a group. Most of the time this can easily be arranged on roll call but not always and not everybody “can” or is willing to do this for a number of reasons. Sometimes a couple is looking for others to join them to make an excursion less expensive but maybe nobody else is interested in that excursion. They may have a nice private tour but not likely less expensive.

To just simply state that private excursions are cheaper than Oceania’s is not accurate.

why would you pay for the O life perk ...just do the cruise only fare

OK Understand. That is true if you book in advance. But if you just leave the ship, you can almost always find the same excursions as offered on the ship, but cheaper, and they handle getting enough people. Still one is a "private tour" even if you do have to have 12 or 16 "friends" and the other is a public tour, often on a bus. You will pay more for a small group, and a risk you won't have enough people.

Of the four OLife excursions on our next cruise, we found them all offered outside of Oceania with a bit of searching, but these are public, not small group.

15 minutes ago, LHT28 said:   why would you pay for the O life perk ...just do the cruise only fare

That certainly is a choice, but if you work it right, you can save money if you are going on many Oceania excursions anyway.  Say OLife allows 8 excursions, they could be priced up to $199, so you'd pay $800 for $1592 in excursions, but that is the extreme, and never possible in real life. We paid $800 for $1040 excursions that probably could be purchased for $550 outside of Oceania.

BUT two advantages booking with Oceania. 1) They won't leave if the excursion is late and 2) and if something goes very wrong with the excursion, Oceania could be held responsible. Otherwise just get the money from the tour operator, and good luck with that one.

Just now, ano said: That certainly is a choice, but if you work it right, you can save money if you are going on many Oceania excursions anyway.

just get the cheaper ones you mentioned at the dock

Not everyone is “brave” enough to count on someone being outside the ship in most ports. This approach may work in the Carib but not most European, Asian or Australian ports. Not to mention that you would have no idea who this person is and what he/she will offer you for that “good price”. I think most people that like to do private tours arrange for them well in advance after a thorough search.

I know I do - I never hope that I can get something in the port “on the fly”.

As always, YMMV

Yes, very true.

Sorry if it sounds like ranting, it isn't, just explaining like it is. We almost always take the ship's excursions, and we get ripped-off doing it. A few times we have gone with a group, but it can be scary. Its money vs. security I guess.

Not sure how you get ripped off ?

It is your choice  to pay $800  for 8  excursions  with O

If they are more than $100 per tour  you are  ahead

If you are not willing to do the research  & book private tours  then you are paying extra  for the security of O tours

… and the research and coordination O did to coordinate those excursions in the first place. On our recent Riviera cruise to the Med as well as northern Europe, our free OLife excursions averaged around $180 per person. Now, the Caribbean is a lot cheaper and you may be better off to book with the "cruise only" fare, but not in Europe on some of the better ones O offers.

It is  a personal choice  & people have to do the research & the math  to see what is right for them

We rarely do ships tours

Last summer  to Norway we did the "cruise only" fare

Booked our own air  & most of the ports we did our own thing

it worked out well for us  as the heat in some ports was way too much for me

It was good to have the flexibility to do what suited us on that day

5,000+ Club

I appreciate the addition a few years back of the OLife excursion options because I have been burned too many times as a private tour organizer with no-shows, late shows and “last minute illness” cruisers (as well as non-tipping companions) sticking me with the larger bill for the tour and, much more importantly, incredible stress, not optimal for my long-anticipated vacation.

Fortunately more tour companies have you sign up directly with them rather than the cruiser organizing the tour but not all.  So we enjoy the mix of DIY just the two of us, OLife tours and joining a very limited number of tours arranged by others.  Simply less stress for me.

One other issue re:ships tour vs. private.

If it's a tender port it can be very chancy  if you are not on a ship's tour unless you just plan to just wander around on your own. Priority on tenders goes to people on ship's tours. We had an issue in Monte Carlo where we had booked a 3rd party tour and they gave us a tight limit on how long they would wait for us. Luckily the Oceania excursions person was an angel and got us on the first tender. This was Alex on the Marina. She is the best!

  • 1 year later...

So Now- in the Pandemic. Remdesivir and the Lilly monoclonal antibody are approved for general use and steroids are plentiful, as of today. We are going traveling. We have 2 Oceania cruises coming up. The first in July 2021 and then  December 2021. Given the craziness of the world we are very tempted to use the unlimited excursion package. For instance, one of our cruises stops in Mozambique. We have had 3 land tours to Africa, all over the continent so we are not strangers there. But since 50 people were beheaded in Mozambique over the past few days, the "security" of going with an Oceania tour seems a little safer. 15 years ago I was fine to defend us, but maybe not so much right now. This package seems like it may provide a little security. Thoughts?

1 hour ago, 2ws said: Given the craziness of the world we are very tempted to use the unlimited excursion package.

In the current  World situation  you may not have a choice   you may HAVE to take the ship's tours

No One knows  what will happen  next summer  if/when cruising starts up  again

Having been to Mozambique two times, my first time and my last time, it doesn't surprise me.  I have no desire to ever visit that country again.  The one and only country out of the 84 countries I've visited that I would say that about.  Because on my personal experience there, if I was on a ship that viisted Mozambique I would stay on board and enjoy the pool, spa, etc.  So those are my thoughts...  But to "kind of" answer your underlying question about security of doing an O shore excursion, yes if you are compelled to go ashore then I would probably opt for the O shore excursion.  And FWIW, as a general rule I don't do ship's shore excursions.

In the past we have taken the OLIFE tours and mixed in privately arranged tour from the cruise critic role calls.  Without a dought all excursions will be Oceania only for the balance of 2021 and probably into 2022.

I did the math on excursions for our 10 day Baltic cruise and using the combo of free and 25% discount saved the 2 of us over 1500 which included an excursion in every port.

Shore Excursion/OBC advice for newbie

By MnDAL , June 11, 2023 in Oceania Cruises

Cool Cruiser

When I first booked my October cruise, I looked at applying the OBC option to Shore Excursions vs a Beverage Package. It appeared to be a no-brainer to use for excursions. After doing so, I have read a lot of negative comments here regarding the value, quality and management of O's shore excursions. I am now questioning my decision. I have these requests:

  • I would like your opinions - pro and con - of buying ShoreEx from O.
  • Recommendations for companies that specialize in ShoreEx - comments pro/con.
  • Will I have an issue cancelling the bookings I have made and reapplying the OBC option from there to the beverage package?

Any input is appreciated. TIA!

This is a personal choice.  I like to book my own private excursions and don’t drink much so I take the OBC and use it for onboard expenses like the cooking classes or spa or even gratitudes.  You can drive yourself crazy with the O Life.  I like to go to Tripadvisor for port information, recommendations and excursions.  You could just buy a beverage package and keep your excursions.  My best advice is do what is comfortable for you!  Enjoy your trip!

If you are going to DIY the shore excursions and do not drink or sparingly then your best option is to do cruise only......the cost of O Life versus cruise only is exactly the amount of OBC.  So you are just pre-prepaying to have the OBC and if you purchase via OLife it is non-refundable (use it or lose it).   If you would like to have some OBC already on your account, the best option is to purchase OBC as a gift to yourself and then, if you don't use it, it is refundable.  When we began cruising with O and did not have pre-paid gratuities and little OBC, we would figure out what our onboard spending would look like and then monthly purchase some OBC so when we boarded our cost were already covered.

We always opt for O-Life without Air, and choose the Shore Excursions.  Yes, one will encounter a poor excursion every now and then, but on the whole, we have been VERY satisfied with O's excursions and Land Programs, and Pre and Post Tours.  And we also DIY in places (St. Petersburg comes to mind) when the local DIY tour is vastly superior to O's options.  Another consideration is that with the occasional port change due to weather, political issues, etc., the convenience of an O Tour steps to the front...  Whichever you choose, enjoy your future cruise!

Absolutely agree - the shore excursion OLife option is the best "bang for the buck" , second is the drink package, if you enjoy wine or beer with your meals.  As you indicated, many of the O shore excursions are well run and enjoyable.  Everyone's cruising style is different and so it is nice to have options to tailor the cruise to your style...

Woofa

As it sounds like Olife may be heading the way of the dinosaurs, I don't know how much longer this information is good for.  We also don't yet know if the new program will replace Olife immediately or if they will keep Olife as an option for those who have already booked it.

From all of my reading of these threads over time, many of the regulars with alot of experience in travel seem to do their own excursions and choose cruise only.  It seems clear that booking excursions through O, will be more expensive than a similar, if not the same excursion booked privately.  That difference however may be minimal depending on how many excursions you choose and if you can use the YWMW discount.  I think it reasonable to expect a cruise line to charge a fee above the excursion price but many will differ as to what difference is reasonable.

Your question however suggests you are not looking at choosing the excursion option from Olife but rather taking the OBC and using that to pay for O excursions.  I think most would agree this is usually not the best choice.  It is by choosing the Olife excursion option where you can get some benefit.  That benefit is that Olife usually will cost you say $300 per person but allow you to choose three excursions listed at up to $199 per.  So, it is possible you can get some value there.  Some might still argue that the same excursion can be had for less diy.

In regards to the quality of excursions and options.  Everything I have read is that O offers similar excursions to most lines and that it is important to read carefully what is listed to know what you will be getting.

It will also help to know where your cruise is going as we do not know how to help You with local companies at this point.

It is also a great idea to get on your roll call if you have not already done so as October is right around the corner and I would guess people are already talking about and booking excursions.

Our feelings exactly. One other benefit to consider is that the O-Life excursions count towards the total needed to qualify for the 25% discount on excursions.

If you are sure you don’t want the booze or tours perks, there’s zero reason to take O Life.

Instead, do Cruise Only w/wo air.

Do the math: The difference in fare price is exactly the value of the SBC perk and that SBC Is non-refundable. It’s a “wash” but not in your favor due to being non-refundable.

I always do cruise only as I like to do my own air too.

19 minutes ago, Woofa said:   Your question however suggests you are not looking at choosing the excursion option from Olife but rather taking the OBC and using that to pay for O excursions.  I think most would agree this is usually not the best choice.  It is by choosing the Olife excursion option where you can get some benefit.  That benefit is that Olife usually will cost you say $300 per person but allow you to choose three excursions listed at up to $199 per.  So, it is possible you can get some value there.

I left you with the wrong impression....I had the ability to choose one Olife option when I booked (cruise only). That's why ShoreEx seemed a no-brainer (with a possible $597pp value - $199 x 3 - for $300). It is when I hear so many negative comments about O's shoreEx that I began to look at alternatives. Thus the question: if it was possible to opt out of ShoreEx and change to bev package at this point.

I know you can add in olife up to 30 days out.  Not sure about the changes.  Do you have a TA?  May want to ask them.  Also in regards to change to eliminate olife I think they are coming the end of this week.

Great Review

For our last cruise and our forthcoming one, we've selected excursions.  Drinks package is no use - I don't drink alcohol and my companion only sparingly. For most ports, we like to do our own thing, usually having a wander round the town. But sometimes, the actual port isnt that interesting, so the O excursions were a decent way of visiting last time. If that proves not to be the case this time around, if there's a future cruise, we'd probably go with the OBC (perhaps treating ourselves to a purchase in the boutiques that we wouldnt usually choose to afford).

Just a tip from another Dallasite: A month after I originally booked, O came out with a one-month special that included the OBC, the excursion credit (each worth $600), as well as the beverage package, all at no additional cost, so I was able to change to that. The chances of that happening again soon may be slim, but you never know. I'm using my credits for excursions, hoping that the encouraging comments here are the ones that apply to my cruise!

I chose Shorex for our upcoming cruise, then discovered that most of the excursions were fully booked.  Even though our cruise was paid in full (we booked fairly late on), I was able to get my TA to change to the drinks package which was the next best option.

Based on a conversation with an O representative, she said I could change which package I had picked 100 times prior to the cruise.  Not sure if there is a time cutoff but changing packages did not seem to be an issue for her.  I am in the same situation as you with respect to which package I choose for our Miami to Miami trip on Dec 1st.  Not blown away by some of the excursion choices so far.

My 2 cents................. I have had to cruise by myself the last 3 cruises as my friend I travel with was undergoing chemo. My deal with my husband was to do the ship excursions for safety. I will say with no hesitancy that the best excursion I ever had was an Oceania one in Ephesas and worst was a private one on Tahiti. I have enjoyed all of the O excursions as except for one they have been as described and as good or better than I expected. Julia

I would  just opt out of O Life

The Caribbean is easy to DIY in most ports

I think determining whether Oceania’s excursions or private excursions will work better for you will depend on the itinerary and how ‘in depth’ you want to go.  For Alaska and Scandinavia, we tend to use the Oceania excursions because most of what you want to see is right there near the port (or viewable from the ship).  For Baltic with St. Petersburg (several years ago), we did all private excursions and they were fabulous.  For Mediterranean, we did a mixture depending on whether the port and surroundings were areas we’d visited more in depth on previous trips.   Pre-Covid, there were many more excursion choices—both private and offered by the cruise lines.  Hopefully, it will start to get back to that point again.

My booking is going to fall under the new Simply More pricing. That option to convert is going to put a new wrinkle in my decision.

In the meantime, I am looking at the established shore excursion operators for alternatives.

Thanks for all the feedback!

On 6/11/2023 at 11:57 AM, MnDAL said: When I first booked my October cruise, I looked at applying the OBC option to Shore Excursions vs a Beverage Package. It appeared to be a no-brainer to use for excursions. After doing so, I have read a lot of negative comments here regarding the value, quality and management of O's shore excursions. I am now questioning my decision. I have these requests:   I would like your opinions - pro and con - of buying ShoreEx from O.  Recommendations for companies that specialize in ShoreEx - comments pro/con. Will I have an issue cancelling the bookings I have made and reapplying the OBC option from there to the beverage package?   Any input is appreciated. TIA!

You won't have trouble canceling your excursions. You're going to have to call Oceania directly to do it. It's easy to switch from tom Shore Ex to OBC. If you used a TA, then tell her/him.

Wait a few weeks to make any decisions because things are changing.

We use Oceania excursions in certain places and book private tours in Europe and The Caribbean.

   Good luck

Description

Skagway was the gateway to the gold fields for the thousands who flocked to Alaska and the Yukon with the hope of striking it rich. Skagway may have boasted the shortest route to the Klondike, but it wasn't the easiest. Over 100 years ago, the White Pass route through the Coast Mountains and the shorter but steeper Chilkoot Trail were used by countless stampeders. Many a would-be miner perished on the treacherous Chilkoot Trail. The gold rush was a boon and by 1898, Skagway was Alaska's largest town with a population of about 20,000. Hotels, saloons, dance halls and gambling houses prospered. But when the gold yield dwindled in 1900, so did the population as miners quickly shifted to new finds in Nome. Today, Skagway has less than 1,000 residents. It still retains the flavor of the gold rush era.

Yukon is a wilderness playground with an extensive network of waterways. On the scenic 65-mile drive from Skagway, the lush coastal landscape gives way to rugged wilderness. Its capital, Whitehorse, is the center for the Yukon's mining and forestry industries.

Pristine beauty and an abundance of wildlife define Haines. Just 14 miles from Skagway by water, the town is renowned for huge convocations of bald eagles and one of the planet's longest fjords.
