Tour Director Colette was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Wellness Director Eric was also great keeping us 'blessed' with hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. We all returned home with negative Covid test results thanks to him. The weather was great and the scenery was spectacular!

First Discovery
The itirenary is very good, it covers most of Geneva. The tour guide, Vitali is exceptional, he’s knowledgeable He goes to extra miles to make us stress free, comfortable & safe. He finds ways to open restaurant for us when its supposedly close (after 2pm),make table available when there was none. On our last day, he took us to this amazing & spectacular place for lunch. Last but not the least, I left my wallet/phone in one of the places we went to and he never hesitate to drive back 30 min. away and even knocking on doors(for it was past closing time. His dedication & love for his job is very commendable. Kudos to you Vitali. We appreciate all you did for us making our trip worthwhile & memorable. Thank you, Bella & Dong

Spectacular Switzerland
This trip was a dream. It was so well planned by Globus: hotels were top notch, activities were great, extra activities were perfect, and there was a perfect balance between group time and alone time. I got to spend time venturing off and exploring by myself, which I loved. Our tour guide, Valeria, was impeccable. Her energy was outstanding and I intend on making sure I only go on tours she is the guide for because she really made all the difference!

Best of Switzerland
Good, but there was definitely a lack of information given to folk on the tour. As in what to wear, how strenuous it's going to be ... etc.
Independent Switzerland Tour of Moutain Tops
The planning was great and easy to follow. We had great time. I do hope I could get the itinerary earlier so we can make additinal plan at each stop early on. And it would be great to have more transparency on the pricing also.

Reviews of switzerland tours.
Had an amazing time in Switzerland and met new wonderful friends. Trafalgar did a great job. Everything was organized and safety was top priority. Will travel with Trafalgar again.
Vitalli was a wonderful tour guide and a pleasure to work with.
We booked a Globus tour to Switzerland via Tour Radar. The overall process was surprisingly easy. They provided many options for tours (with descriptions and reviews) so we were able to choose the one that was right for us. Tour Radar guided us through everything we needed to do via email and their website messaging. We will use Tour Radar again.

The best trip ever.
“This was my first trip with EF! Let me say this, it was one of the most memorable trips I ever had. Ingo our tour directors was the best!!!! He rocks! You would never feel alone on the trip and the strangers would soon become your family! I highly recommend that you go on this trip and experience multiple countries and the food in one trip!!!!!”
–Mohit, traveled on Germany, Italy & Switzerland Dec. 2022
A trip I will talk about for the rest of my life!
“I wasn’t sure what to expect coming in as a first time solo traveler in a group of strangers, but I love hiking and the Alps certainly do not disappoint. Breathtaking views, just the right amount of challenge on hikes to make you feel accomplished, and the opportunity to explore a new culture first hand…I felt so safe and had the time of my life!”
–Nicole, traveled on Hike Europe: The Alps Sep. 2022

What our travelers say about their trips to Switzerland
Travel tips for switzerland trips.
What time of year is it best to visit Switzerland? It all depends on what you want to do! Late spring and early fall offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds at the must-visit sites in Switzerland, which can make for a more authentic experience. If you’re planning a trip to Switzerland in the winter, you can enjoy a festive atmosphere on special Christmas market and New Year’s Eve tours . Summer is the best time to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, because the mountains are clear of snow, and is a popular time of year for trips to Switzerland.
Our Switzerland tours are the best way to see the most popular sites. You’ll get to know idyllic Alpine towns firsthand, with the expertise of your local guides, and skip the lines at attractions that draw lots of visitors. Some of the highlights include:
- Lake Lucerne and the famous Kapellbrücke
- Interlaken, the gateway to the Alps
- A scenic trip on the Bernina Express
- Views of the Matterhorn from Gornergrat
On special trips to Switzerland, you can enjoy seasonal charms by visiting the country in winter. Shop for souvenirs and try local holiday treats at Christmas markets in Alpine towns or raise a toast on New Year’s Eve in Lucerne.
Switzerland is probably most famous for its chocolate and cheeses like gruyere and Emmental (which are definitely out of this world). The country’s regional cuisine also draws influences from France, German, and Italian cooking. Rösti is a dish that’s famous around the country, especially among Swiss-Germans. Rösti is made with grated potato and fried, so it’s a lot like hash browns—making it a popular breakfast option. Other favorites include fondue and raclette, two cheesy and melty dishes, and quiche.
On all our Switzerland tour packages, you’ll have included meals that introduce you to regional eats, as well as free time where you can seek out local favorites on your own. You can always count on your Tour Director to point you toward the best spots—each of our Switzerland escorted tours is led by an expert who knows the region in and out.
Our trips to Switzerland cover all seasons, which mean you can encounter everything from summer sunshine to snow. No matter what, on any Switzerland tours, you’ll want comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing, and packing layers is always a good idea. If you’re planning a trip to Switzerland in the winter, you’ll want cold-weather gear so you’re ready for spending time outdoors. We recommend having waterproof boots, a warm coat, and a hat and gloves.
Once you’ve reserved one of our Switzerland guided tours, we’ll give you more detailed packing tips, as well as all the other info you need to know before you know! Plus, you can download our Tour Companion app before you depart, so you’ll have all the info you need right in your pocket.

Christmas Markets Grand Rail Tour
Our verdict: A 9-day, seasonal tour including Swiss Christmas markets, panoramic trains, and mountain summits
As a shorter, seasonal alternative to their Swiss Alps Grand Rail Tour, Echo Rails and Trails also offer a 9-day Christmas tour. It focuses on Switzerland’s Christmas markets, so you can see the cities in all their festive finery. This trip can only be taken during December.
The tour cost covers travel on Swiss rail services, including mountain railways, and premium panoramic trains. For the latter, first class travel is included. There are also overnight stays in four destinations, where you’ll spend a couple of nights in each.
3 and 4 star hotel accommodation is included, as well as a daily breakfast, 4 dinners, and a lake cruise dinner featuring Swiss fondue. You’ll also have the services of an English-speaking guide, and luggage transfers are taken care of, too.

Why join a guided tour of Switzerland?
Escorted tours are a popular option for many travellers and there are many reasons why. If it’s your first time visiting Switzerland (or Europe) and you’d rather let someone else make all the arrangements, a guided tour is perfect.
As you’ll be travelling with others, you’ll make new friends and for solo travellers there is often the option to share a room with a fellow traveller.
Travelling on a tour is a great way to familiarise yourself with a country. Perhaps you’d like to stay on afterwards – but the time your tour is finished you’ll have the confidence to see some sights on your own.
One big advantage that comes with a guided tour is the tour guide! Not only will your guide be on hand to answer your everyday questions, they are a wealth of knowledge on the destinations you’ll visit.
Your guide will help you to skip the lines at major attractions and take you to ‘off the beaten track’ places that you may never have heard about if you weren’t part of a tour.
Booking on a tour can help keep your holiday budget in check, too. With the major components of your trip prepaid – transport and accommodation – you only have to budget for some meals, additional sightseeing and incidentals.
Another bonus of joining a coach tour in Switzerland is that extras like hotel porterage, local taxes and tipping (often called gratuities) are all taken care of, so there’s one less thing you have to worry about.
What to look for when choosing a tour
Before you decide on your tour there are a number of things to consider to ensure you are getting the best value for your holiday dollar.
>> Sightseeing inclusions – Which attractions and excursions are included in the tour price? Your tour might stay in Interlaken but does it include an excursion to the Jungfraujoch? If visiting Jungfraujoch (for example) is a priority for you, make sure you know if the ticket price is included or if you’ll have to budget extra for it.
>> Which sites and attractions does the tour visit? – Does your tour include a visit to a particular site or do you just ‘see’ it as you drive past? For example, if you particularly want to visit Chillon Castle , does your tour include that or do you just view the Castle from a cruise on Lake Geneva or from a viewing point beside the road?
>> Optional excursions – Most tours include some sightseeing and offer a list of optional excursions. Prices for the optional excursions are usually available prior to booking the tour. Add the price of the excursions you’d like to do to the base tour price and compare this with the cost of a tour that already includes them. How do they compare?
>> Hotel standard – The price of the tour will reflect the standard of accommodation that you stay in. Tours with 5-star luxury accommodation are going to cost a lot more than tours that use 3-star hotels. Familiarise yourself with the standard of accommodation on the tour so you know what to expect.
>> Pace of tour – Do you want a fast-paced tour to see as much as you can in a short amount of time or would you prefer a tour that travels at a more leisurely pace? Check the tour itinerary to see how ‘busy’ the itinerary is and if it’s right for you. If you don’t want to be up at 6am every morning whilst you are on vacation make sure that your tour itinerary doesn’t require this.
>> Free time – Although you’ve chosen a guided tour for the convenience of having everything organised for you, it’s always nice to know there will be some free time to explore on your own. An hour or two wandering the streets of a quaint village or sitting with a coffee and people-watching can be just what you need after a busy few days on tour. If having a bit of free time is important to you, check how much is allowed in the itinerary.
>> Meals – How many meals are included in your tour price? All the tours mentioned above include breakfast each day but they all vary in the number of other meals included. If you prefer to have as many meals as possible prepaid, consider this when choosing your tour. Alternatively, if you like to have the option of deciding where and when you eat at night, a tour that includes fewer dinners might be the best bet for you.

The unassuming town of Interlaken is the perfect base to connect with the soul of Switzerland. Explore over 700 hikes which roam into the mountains from your doorstep, with charming isolated villages found sitting between them.
Our top 5 things to do in Switzerland
We'll take you through the pristine natural beauty of this country, with a trip that's filled with moments of awe. Lakes, grapevines and alpine forests prove it's not just the hills that are alive in Switzerland.
Swiss National Museum
There is a reason this is Switzerland's most frequently visited museum of cultural history. Inside, you will immerse in the past and present through some 840,000 objects. From bronze Age bowls to silver knight’s armor, nowhere else will deliver such a rich and comprehensive insight into the Swiss.
Lake Geneva
Charlie Chaplin museum
The property where Charlie Chaplin spent his last years provides an intimate glimpse into the iconic entertainer's life and work. Be moved by a walk through the vast estate, where you will marvel at his original bowler hat and boots, hear tales from friends and touch painstakingly replicated movie sets.
Zentrum Paul Klee
The namesake of this museum is one of the 20th century's most important artists. Step into the space to quietly take in his artworks, you might find yourself lost in the famous cubism inspired 'Insula dulcamara' or colorful jigsaw that the German-Swiss genius was most famous for.
Best museums in Switzerland
There's more to this landlocked country than army knives and chocolate. With Trafalgar, you will gain a deeper understanding of Switzerland through these must-visit museums.
Once a farmers’ breakfast, Rösti is now a plate popular amongst the Swiss. One bite into this crisp baked potato and you will be hooked. Luckily, the country's many regions boast their own versions, offering an excuse to sample many during your tour of Switzerland.
There is more to this classic fare than dipping bread into a pot of melted cheese. It’s a sacred pastime. To the Swiss, fresh bread and bubbling creamy Gruyere is incomplete without one vital ingredient: good company. Indulge in authentic fondue in Switzerland in the company of new friends.
Swiss chocolate
Chocolate aficionados will find no shortage of pleasure in the smooth chocolate of Switzerland. The birthplace of Lindt, Toblerone, Mövenpick and more, a banquet of cocoa will be enjoyed here in the name of culture.
Best food in Switzerland
Baked potato, melted cheese and genuine chocolate. The culinary delights of Switzerland were designed with only the pleasure of taste in mind, and it's an indulgence Trafalgar is only too happy to share with you.
What to pack for Switzerland
Even in summer, layers are vital in Switzerland. Temperatures differ throughout through the country and can get particularly crisp in the higher mountains.
A good quality camera
In a place known for pinch me moments, it would be remiss to forget something more than just a smartphone to capture them all.
Swiss Francs
Switzerland may be at the core of Europe, but this country abandoned the Euro many years ago. Though you can still use them in some larger establishments, but it's better to arm yourself with plenty of Francs so you're never caught short.
A phrasebook
A phrasebook with the national languages of German, French and Italian is essential on a tour of Switzerland. If you really can’t spare the space, download them to your Google Translate app offline.
Walking shoes
If your trip is likely to see you traversing the dynamic landscapes of Switzerland, a pair of sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots should be on the packing list.

The cuisine of Switzerland tends to be made up of German, French and Italian influences. Meals tend to have an emphasis on bread, dairy and cheese with cheese being a massive part of the Swiss culture. There are more than 100 different varieties of cheese found in the country. Despite this large amount, cheese is not mass-produced; rather it is made by hundreds of dairies with very strict rules and regulations. Popular dishes include:
Fondue: This dish consists of Emmentaler and natural Gruyère cheese (either mixed or separately) mixed with other local cheese, melted over a portable stove, combined with white wine. Bread is then placed on long stemmed forks and is dipped into the cheese.
Racletteis both a cheese and a type of dish. It is heated raclette cheese in front of a fire, and once it starts to soften, it is scraped onto a plate.
Pastetli is a Swiss meat pie that often has different fillings, served with rice and peas.
Rippli are pork ribs that are popular in Bern, served with bacon, beans, and potatoes.
Health & Safety
Generally speaking, Switzerland is safe to travel in, though always exercise common sense while travelling.
Electrical Supply
Whenever you travel overseas, it’s always wise to take an appropriate travel adaptor. Croatia’s electricity supply runs at 230V and 50Hz. Croatia uses both the Type C and Type J electric plugs, so make sure you have the right travel adaptor with you.
The best of Switzerland
The Matterhorn
Switzerland's iconic pointed peak is one of the highest mountains in the Alps.
One of Switzerland's most popular summer destinations, surrounded by breathtaking mountainviews.
A car-free medieval old town by a sparkling blue lake and surrounded by mountains, waterfront promenades, frescoed historic buildings, and sun-splashed plazas with bubbling fountains.
Tour Reviews
I was impressed by the number of places we visited. It was a very full itinerary which I like. We saw things of interest every day. I see no fault with the tour.

Every day was different with so much to see and do. Volcanoes, craters (including the pseudo ones), bubbling mud pools, and the active Strokkur Geyser, the bird life, black sand beaches, and those beautiful Icelandic horses. The time flew by...

Iceland cultural and wilderness small group tour
It is hard to believe that such a small country can contain so much dramatic scenery. Icecaps and glaciers, huge waterfalls, volcanos and hot bubbling mud, and those wonderful fjords and high mountain passes
The country was apparently calm and safe. People were friendly and helpful. Such a pity there has been such a down turn in tourism. Ros & Tony S. Sep '17
Small group tour of Ancient Turkey
Our guide was a great ambassador for his country, wide knowledge of literature, history, customs, industry, fishing - also a perceptive and sensitive person who inter-acted so willingly with all of us!
Our guide Filiz was wonderful, very well informed, historical insights very helpful, her care for our well being exceptional. Could not have wished for a better tour leader.
We felt safe in Turkey and found the people friendly and helpful. Prices were excellent and the food almost universally magnificent. There is so much to see in the natural and built environment and the wonderful archaeological sites. It is sad to see the ordinary people and businesses suffering from the lack of tourists. Mary B. The geographical wonders offered by Iceland and Greenland left me in awe. The grandeur and spectacle of the countryside is breathtaking. Our leader (Rob) was excellent: well-researched, friendly, organized and good-humoured.
What is the time zone?
Switzerland has a single time zone, Central European Time (UTC+1). Switzerland observes summer time, shifting to Central European Summer Time (UTC+2).
What is the internet access like in Switzerland?
WiFi should be available in most hotels, cafes and restaurants when travelling in Switzerland.
Is tipping customary?
If you’re on an Odyssey tour, we take care of tipping so you don’t need to give it a second thought. However, in your free time, or if travelling independently, it’s essential that you tip an appropriate amount for services. Tipping is not customary in Switzerland, with service charges often included with restaurant bills. If you do feel the need to tip, a tip of around 5-10% would be about par.
Can I use my mobile phone in Switzerland?
Check with your cell phone provider to see whether you’re able to make calls and use data while in Switzerland. Many providers will allow you to pay a daily fee that allows you to make calls and check the internet while only being charged your regular rates. However, be certain to inform your provider that you’re heading overseas, because just like a bank they can turn off your service as a result of unusual activity.
Responsible travel tips for Switzerland
- Learn at least the local greetings to break the ice. Although many locals speak English, the more you know of the native language, the greater your experience of the country will be.
- Carry a business card in your wallet or purse from your local hotel, to assist you with the return journey if you do become lost.
- Always ensure that you are covered by travel insurance. If you need advice on this feel free to contact Odyssey and we’ll be able to help.
- When travelling independently, make sure you check the opening hours of shops and museums so that you don’t miss out! Museums and galleries are often closed on Mondays. Also be certain to check whether your trip coincides with any public holidays, so you can plan accordingly.
- Consider contacting your bank to inform them that you may be making purchases overseas. Otherwise, they may flag any activity on your account as suspicious. Also, check which ATMs and banks are compatible with your cards, to ensure you can withdraw cash with minimal fees.
- Before departing, make sure you have a number of Swiss Franc in a range of denominations. You don’t want to be carrying around enormous amounts of cash, but take enough to make it easy to pay in locations that might not accept credit card. It will also help you avoid card transaction fees, and it makes tipping a breeze.
