When to visit

The best time to visit climate-wise is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the daytime temperatures aren't too extreme. Winter can be cold and rainy in some areas.

Fly to Tel Aviv

On arrival in Tel Aviv, you will be transferred to The Norman, your base for the following three nights. Architecturally significant, The Norman blends 1920s Bauhaus design with contemporary elegance and style. With warm hospitality, plush interiors, sophisticated dining and an ever-changing curated collection of modern art, this boutique hotel is a wonderful haven from which to explore this vibrant Mediterranean city.

During your stay, you will enjoy both leisure time and a private guided tour, enabling you to discover the best of modern Tel Aviv, as well as the historic port city of Jaffa. Originally founded in Neve Tzedek on the outskirts of Jaffa in 1887, the modern city and ancient port have since merged into one, creating a spectacular contrast of old and new. The tour includes a chance to explore the evolving culture and history of the city through its street art and graffiti.

Highlights of modern Tel Aviv include the UNESCO-listed Bauhaus architecture, the culinary delights of Carmel Market, the fabulous Mediterranean beaches and the delightful promenade lined with chic cafés, restaurants, and boutiques. While in Jaffa, you can explore the remains of the ancient port, wander the narrow centuries-old cobblestone streets, and explore the exquisite Artists’ Quarter, where Ottoman-era buildings are now home to artists, artisans and shops.

For those interested in Israeli and Jewish history, Tel Aviv has some excellent museums and landmarks. Visit Independence Hall, to see where David Ben-Guiron signed the Declaration of Independence in 1948, creating the modern state of Israel, while a visit to Beit Hatfutsot: The Museum of the Jewish People, will put this into context. The museum documents the 2,500-year history of the Jewish Diaspora and is a must for anyone interested Jewish history. Also worth a visit is the Palmach Museum, which documents the lives of 10 members of the Palmach unit from 1941 to 1948. This unit was created in 1941 to support the Allies during the Second World War, before forming the basis of the Israeli Army during the 1948 War of Independence.

Garden Suite

This morning you will make the journey north to the Holy City, Jerusalem, where you will settle into the Mamilla Hotel. This luxurious sanctuary reflects the city itself, being a sophisticated blend of ancient history and stylish modern design. Ottoman stone walls house chic contemporary interiors in this fabulous hotel in Jerusalem’s vibrant Mamilla neighbourhood. With al fresco dining at the rooftop lounge, panoramic views of the Old City Walls and an award-winning spa, the Mamilla is the perfect base for exploring the timeless beauty and fascinating history of this ancient city.

During your time in Jerusalem, you will enjoy a private guided walking tour of the Old City, which is a mesmerising tangle of centuries-old narrow alleyways, cobbled streets, street vendors and hole-in-the-wall eateries. The walk will include Zion Gate, the Jewish Quarter where you will see the famous Wailing Wall and the Dome of the Rock, as well as the Via Dolorosa. Also known as the Way of the Cross, the pathway follows the 14 stations of the Cross on the day of the crucifixion, ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site where Jesus is believed to have been crucified, buried, and resurrected.

With so much history, the city has a multitude of highlights and other sites of note include the Citadel built by King David, known as the Tower of David and Mount Zion, just outside the walls of the Old City, close to Zion Gate. Here you will find the Tomb of David, the Room of the Last Supper, and the Church of the Dormition.

Along with these ancient landmarks, we would recommend a self-guided visit to Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Jewish Holocaust. The site includes the Hall of Remembrance, the Children’s Memorial, the Museum of Holocaust Art, and outdoor commemorative sites, including the Valley of the Communities. You may also wish to visit the Israel Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls and Ammunition Hill Memorial and Museum, dedicated to those who lost their lives fighting in the 1967 Six-Day War.

Israel has an emerging and exciting food scene. From traditional street food to fine dining, the cuisine is both flavoursome and creative, and the country is fast becoming a culinary hotspot. During your time in Jerusalem, you will enjoy a private food tour of the celebrated Machane Yehuda Market. One of the city’s prime attractions, it boasts boutique stalls and international chef restaurants. You’ll learn about the history of the market, meet the stallholders, and sample the fabulous produce from flavoured tahini to spiced halva.

Mamila

Negev Desert

On leaving the Holy City, accompanied by your guide, you will visit the spectacular UNESCO-listed hilltop ruins of the Masada Fortress. This legendary fortress was the last stronghold of the Zealots, fighting against the Romans during the First Revolt in AD70. Built by King Herod over 2,000 years ago, it defended the area from its location at the top of a mountain plateau. Ride the cable car up to the top of the fortress, or take a hike up Snake Pass, for panoramic views of both the desert and the Dead Sea.

Another treat awaits before heading off into the desert, as you take the opportunity for a relaxing float and swim in the mineral-rich therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on the planet. A truly memorable experience, the lake has been a health resort since the time of King Herod.

From here, you will journey onward to the serene tranquillity of the Six Senses Shahrut, for a magical desert experience. For the following three nights, this spectacular property will be your home. Located in the southern Negev Desert, on a hillside enjoying magnificent views of the Arava Valley, the Six Senses Shahrut offers luxury accommodation, a relaxing spa and exquisite dining, all served up with fabulous hospitality.

Your stay can be as leisurely or action-packed as you wish. From stargazing and bird watching, to camel rides across the dunes and jeep safaris to the 220-million-year-old Ramon Crater, you set the tempo of your days.

When it is time to depart, you can choose to fly back to London from nearby Ramon Airport or travel home via Tel Aviv.

Laos Bible Mission Trip

israel tours from singapore

There are many highlights for this trip including witnessing the Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade, hearing testimonies of the people steadfast faith despite persecution and trials etc. Our family has indeed been much blessed. Thanks too for the abundant love and grace shown to one another especially patience and care to our son who is the only kid in the group. Suffice to say, that we were surrounded with much joy, laughter, fun and nice food too throughout this trip. It was a well-organised trip and all thumbs up to Ibex.

This experience has been amazing. It has strengthened my faith as God has once again shown me how He can make everything work together. God is not someone I can see face to face, but I can see His works. I can hear Him. I can feel Him. Even when I cannot “feel” Him sometimes, I know He is there with me, always. Truly, I can’t deny that God is with me, even when I can’t see beyond my doubt. Thank you Lord for opening my eyes to see You through ways I could not have imagined.

For myself, I think God has a purpose for sending us there because God wants to tell the Khmer people that He loves them and He will not forget them. My question is that will you make a change in their lives today? Will you bring the good news to them or stay at home and watch Fox movies? For me is a resounding YES. I promise I will go to Cambodia to do God’s work. What about you?

FOR THE INCONVENIENCE!

After immigration clearance, he proceeded to Mt Nebo, where Moses was shown the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey. Next to Madaba, visit St George’s Church, where the Madaba Map containing the oldest surviving original cartographic depiction of the Holy Land was found. Check in to the hotel in Amman for dinner and overnight.

Lunch/Dinner provided

After breakfast, drive to Petra and drive along the desert road to the King’s Highway for a full-day tour of Petra. Early lunch before visiting the Red Rose City of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. You may walk, take a horse ride (tips to handler USD5) or ride on a carriage (USD35 both ways). Return to Amman for dinner and overnight.

Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner provided

Today after breakfast, we will leave for King Hussein Bridge to prepare for crossing into Israel via Allenby Bridge. After immigration clearance, proceed to Jericho, the oldest city on the earth and visit the sycamore tree, walls of Jericho and Mount of Temptation. Lunch in Jericho before driving to Betshean, formerly known as Scythopolis, has played an important role in history. The city contains many well-preserved ruins from different eras and empires, including the Egyptians, Byzantines, Greeks, and Romans. Continue to Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, visit the Mount of Beatitudes , and see the traditional site where Jesus preached His most famous Sermon: the Sermon on the Mount. The hillside forms a natural amphitheater with the Sea of Galilee in the background. Next, we visit the Church of the Fish and the Loaves , the traditional site of feeding the 5,000, also located along the Sea of Galilee and St Peter’s Primacy . Continue to Capernaum, and view the ruins of the town of Capernaum and the synagogue where Jesus preached on multiple occasions. Capernaum also contains the ruins of “Peter’s House,” a house that was later converted into one of the first Christian churches. Then, we will enjoy a time of worship as we sail across the very Sea where Jesus walked on water. This relatively small body of fresh water is only about 8 miles wide and 13 miles long and continues to be a busy fishing area, just as it was in Jesus’ day. Along the boat ride, our guide will point out various places along the Sea mentioned in the Gospels. At Ginosar, we will visit the ancient Boat Museum and view the remain of the Jesus boat.

Today, we will be touring sites in the northernmost region of Israel to visit Caesarea Philippi, which was once an ancient Roman city. Inside a large grotto, the Greeks built a shrine to the god Pan. Jesus travelled through this place with His disciples, where Peter made his famous confession to Jesus, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Next, drive to Nazareth Village to experience the life of Jesus, followed by lunch. After lunch, visit the Church of Annunciation, where Angel Gabriel told Mary she would bear a child. After lunch in Nazareth, end the day with a visit to Cana , the Church of the Wedding and an opportunity for couples to renew their marriage vows. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

After breakfast , check out of hotel and drive up to the mountaintop of Mt Carmel where the prophet Elijah famously prayed down fire from Heaven and won the victory over Baal. Next, we visit Tel Megiddo , an incredible archaeological dig with layers of 20 different cities built on top of each other.. Proceed along the coast to the Roman Aqueduct and Theatre at Caesarea Maritima . These impressive structures were constructed by Herod the Great over 2,000 years ago. Caesarea became a centre of early Christianity, and the Apostle Paul was imprisoned there for two years. View the ruins of Herod’s seaside palace and a large hippodrome where chariot races were conducted. Continue to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, visit the Israel Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls and Model of 2nd Temple times. Nextl drive to Mt. of Olives to enjoy the view of the Temple Mount and Eastern Gate from this vantage point. This is the place where Jesus ascended into Heaven forty days after his resurrection. Visit the Church of Ascension as well as Pater Noster where The Lord’s Prayer was taught. Then we walk down from the Mount of Olives along the pathway that Jesus traveled into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday . Walk down from the Mount of Olives to the Garden of Gethsemane . Here we will have a special service and spend some moments in reflection and prayer beneath the ancient olive trees where Jesus prayed the night before his crucifixion. Next to the city of Bethlehem to visit the Church of Nativity where Jesus was born as well as Manger Square and the Shepherds Fields .

Today, we will visit the Garden Tomb for a special communion service. Step inside the empty tomb and remember, “He is not here, for He is risen. Next, walk to the Old City of Jerusalem , and visit the Pool of Bethesda , the place where Jesus healed the lame man on the Sabbath day at this pool. Then we visit St. Anne’s Church , this perfectly preserved church with incredible acoustics that dates back to the time of the Crusades. Next, we visit the City of David (dry tunnel only) and walk through some of the oldest areas of Jerusalem that date back to the time of King David. Continue to St. Peter in Gallicantu; this  church was built over the ruins of what is believed to be the High Priest Caiaphas’ house. Walk down the narrow steps into the prison where Jesus may have been held in the morning hours before his crucifixion. Then to Mount Zion to visit the traditional site of the Last Supper .

After breakfast, drive south to Masada by riding a cable car to the top of the mountain fortress overlooking the Dead Sea. This was the location of one of King Herod the Great’s palaces. It is most famous as the site where the Roman army laid siege to several hundred Jewish rebels. Ruins of the walls and massive Roman siege ramp are still visible today. Next, we visit Qumran , the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, including the remarkably well-preserved Isaiah Scroll. After lunch, at approximately 1,400 feet below sea level, we stop at the Dead Sea , the lowest spot in the world. The Dead Sea is almost ten times saltier than the ocean; consequently, there are no fish or visible life forms in the sea. This high salt concentration also makes it impossible for swimmers to sink. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

After breakfast, you may want to do some last-minute shopping before checking out of the hotel. Lunch en route to the airport for departure on TK837 at 1755 hours, arriving at Istanbul airport at 2120 hours.

Israel embassy’s post on Palestine ‘unacceptable’, risks undermining harmony in S’pore: Shanmugam

israel tours from singapore

SINGAPORE – A post by the Embassy of Israel in Singapore that had made claims by citing the Quran has been taken down after intervention by the Singapore Government.

Speaking to the media on March 25, Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam condemned the post, calling it “completely unacceptable”, and said he was very upset when he found out about it.

A spokesman for the Israel Embassy told The Straits Times that the post had been put up without the necessary approvals and that the person responsible has been punished.

The post was made on the official Facebook page of the Israeli embassy in Singapore on March 24 and taken down that evening.

The post claimed that Israel was mentioned 43 times in the Quran, that Palestine was not even mentioned once, and that there was archaeological evidence that the Jewish people were the indigenous people of the land.

Mr Shanmugam said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had spoken with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on March 24 and said the embassy had to take the post down immediately.

He said: “The post is wrong at many levels. First, it is insensitive and inappropriate. It carries a risk of undermining our safety, security and harmony in Singapore.

“Second, it is wrong to selectively point to religious texts, to make a political point. Even worse, in this current situation, for the Israeli embassy to make use of the Quran for this purpose.

“Third, this post is an astonishing attempt to rewrite history.”

Mr Shanmugam added that Singapore looks after the safety and security of everyone here, including minorities such as Muslims and Jews.

He said there is a vibrant Jewish community here, and that such posts can inflame tensions, putting the Jewish community at risk if anger from the online post spills over into the physical realm.

He said: “MHA had asked for the post to be taken down, and made our views very clear to the Israeli embassy, because it is unacceptable from the perspective of safety and security in Singapore.

“We told them to take it down because of the potential consequences for the different communities within Singapore.”

He said other embassies have put up statements that Singapore may disagree with, but the Republic generally does not intervene as the embassies represent sovereign countries that have autonomy.

Mr Shanmugam said: “But where it affects the safety and security of people in Singapore, the peace and harmony that we enjoy, we do, and we will, intervene.”

The minister said the Singapore Government did not intervene on the basis that the post was an attempt to rewrite history, but that the writer of the post should look at United Nations resolutions and “see if Israel’s actions in the past few decades have been consistent with international law, before trying to rewrite history”.

During a breaking-of-fast session at the Khalid Mosque in Joo Chiat on the evening of March 25, Mr Shanmugam thanked Muslim community leaders for their dedication and service, and reiterated that the post by the embassy was unacceptable.

He also commented that it was good the Israeli embassy had said the post was not authorised.

He said: “In a way, that is good because they accept that the post was wrong in the first place and should never have been put up.”

On March 25, a spokesman for the embassy said the person responsible for the post will face further disciplinary action.

He said: “The Israel Embassy respects religion and racial harmony in Singapore – we have already taken action against the relevant person.

“Due to security reasons, we are unable to divulge the name or role of the person. However, we assure you that the social media post that had gone up was done without the necessary approvals and the person responsible has already been harshly punished and will face internal disciplinary measures.”

Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also issued a statement saying the post was highly inappropriate.

He said: “It is highly inappropriate to refer to sacred texts to make political points. We have made this clear to the embassy, which has taken the post down.”

Speaking to reporters in Singapore on March 25 after returning from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Dr Balakrishnan said the incident is a reminder to be careful of what one says.

“Please be careful how and what you say, and bear in mind the fact that we’re in Singapore, and in Singapore, we do things differently,” he said.

“And with all due respect to foreign countries... on the management of race, language and religion, for what it’s worth, I think we’re a positive example.”

In a Facebook post on March 25, Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli said the post was insensitive and disrespectful and goes against the spirit of mutual respect and understanding in Singapore.

He said: “Nobody should make interpretations that are offensive to another people’s faith, especially selectively using their sacred texts, to make political points.

“Whether one is a Singaporean or foreigner in Singapore, we must not do or say anything that disrupts the social harmony that is so precious to us in Singapore. Such insensitive and inappropriate messages can cause hurt, and sow distrust amongst different communities in Singapore.”

The post by the Israeli Embassy yesterday, which has since been taken down, touched on a sensitive matter to... Posted by Masagos Zulkifli on  Sunday, March 24, 2024

He added that as the incident involved an embassy, action had to be taken according to diplomatic norms, and he was glad that MFA had engaged the embassy to have the post taken down.

“I was very upset when I saw this post, and understand that others in our community also felt aggrieved,” he said.

“But I urge everyone to remain calm and civil and continue to preserve the trust, peace and harmony between our communities. Let us also continue to support the humanitarian aid efforts for the civilians in Gaza, as the Government presses on for a two-state solution supported by the United Nations.”

Singapore Orders Israel to Remove ‘Unacceptable’ Facebook Post

israel tours from singapore

(Bloomberg) -- Singapore has ordered the Israel Embassy to take down an “insensitive and inappropriate” social media post that could undermine security in the city-state, in the latest test of traditionally warm ties between the two nations.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the embassy compared mentions of Israel and a Palestinian state in the Koran, adding that documents and maps “link the land of Israel to the Jewish people as the indigenous people of the land.” The post has since been removed.

“That post, on the Israeli embassy social media page, is completely unacceptable,” Home Minister K. Shanmugam told reporters on Monday. Posts like these can “inflame tensions and can put the Jewish community here at risk. The anger from the post can potentially spill over into the physical realm.”

While Singapore is made up of an ethnic Chinese majority, the multi-racial nation is home to a considerable number of Malays who are Muslim. It also has neighboring Muslim-majority countries like Indonesia and Malaysia that have seen protests in support of the Palestinian cause.

Singapore has laws against domestic threats and foreign influence to help maintain the country’s racial and religious harmony.

“The Israel Embassy respects religion and racial harmony in Singapore,” the foreign mission said in response to media queries, adding that it had already taken action against the person behind the social media post.

Both countries have enjoyed warm ties since Israel helped then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew set up the tiny island nation’s armed forces following Singapore’s independence in 1965. However, the city-state has grown increasingly concerned with the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The take down notice from Singapore comes days after Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his working visit to Israel.

There he reiterated Singapore’s view that “Israel’s military actions in Gaza has gone too far.” Last week, Singapore completed its first humanitarian airdrop containing food and other essential items into Gaza.

Israeli embassy in Singapore told to take down 'unacceptable' post on Palestine: Shanmugam

Israeli embassy in Singapore told to take down 'unacceptable' post on Palestine: Shanmugam

The government told the Israeli embassy in Singapore to remove a Facebook post that made claims by citing the Quran, said Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam.

The post, which was uploaded and deleted on Sunday (March 24), said: "Israel is mentioned 43 times in the Quran. On the other hand, Palestine is not mentioned even once.

"Each and every archaeological evidence - maps, documents, coins, link the land of Israel to the Jewish people as the indigenous people of the land."

Speaking at a media doorstop on Monday, Shanmugam called the Israeli embassy's post "completely unacceptable".

"The post is wrong at many levels," he said. "First, it is insensitive and inappropriate. It carries the risk of undermining our safety, security and harmony in Singapore."

Shanmugam said that while Jews here have "very little concern for their safety and security", posts like these can inflame tensions and can put them at risk.

"Second, it is wrong to selectively point to religious texts to make a political point. Even worse, in this current situation, for the Israeli embassy to make use of the Quran for this purpose," the minister added.

"Third, this post is an astonishing attempt to rewrite history. The writer of the post should look at (United Nations) regulations, see if Israel's actions in the past few decades have been consistent with international law, before trying to rewrite history."

Noting that other embassies have put out statements that Singapore does not agree with, Shanmugam explained that the government generally does not intervene as the embassies have autonomy and represent sovereign countries.

"But where it affects the safety and security of people in Singapore, the peace and harmony that we enjoy, we do and we will intervene," said Shanmugam.

"We look after the safety of everyone in Singapore, majority and minorities, including Jews and Muslims."

The Home Affairs Ministry informed the Foreign Affairs Ministry, which told the Israeli embassy that the post had to be taken down immediately, he added.

"We told them to take it down because of the potential consequences for the different communities within Singapore," Shanmugam said.

On Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said in a separate media statement that it is "highly inappropriate" to refer to sacred texts to make political points.

"We have made this clear to the embassy which has taken the post down," he added.

During a working visit to Israel on March 19, Dr Balakrishnan told several Israel's leaders that their military actions in Gaza have "gone too far" .

The following day, the foreign minister said that he and Israel's leaders have a "clear divergence of views" about their military response in Gaza.

"I would say, candid, frank, sometimes even brutal, if need be - where we have a difference is, we believe that the Israeli military response has now gone too far," he said.

"I have communicated that both to the prime minister, to the foreign minister, and to the other Israelis whom we have met."

Singapore Orders Israeli Embassy to Take Down Post for Being Dangerously True

israel tours from singapore

The diplomatic hullabaloo began with a post on the official Facebook page of the Israeli embassy in Singapore on Sunday that stated: “Israel is mentioned 43 times in the Quran. On the other hand, Palestine is not mentioned even once.”

The post continued: “Each and every archeological evidence – maps, documents, coins, link the land of Israel to the Jewish people as the indigenous people of the land.”

The post also featured this meme:

israel tours from singapore

There’s nothing new or innovative about this post. Of course, Palestine is not mentioned in the Quran because Arabs didn’t start referring to themselves as Palestinians before the Zionist endeavor to reclaim Eretz Israel. They didn’t need to, they, like the vast majority of Arabs from India to Morocco were not even aware that the European colonial forces were dividing them into freshly-marked countries with puppet rulers. They were convinced they were Arabs.

Before we continue, there is one glaring inaccuracy in the post: according to the Torah, the Jewish people were not the indigenous people of the land. In the Torah and the Jewish sacred books that followed, the Israelites conquered the land from the Canaanites, the indigenous folks, as per the will of the Creator.

Anyway, Singapore was not amused, which is what this story is really about.

Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam ordered the embassy to take down the post, which they did immediately. Hey, in Singapore you get caned for spitting on the sidewalk.

Minister Shanmugam denounced the post, calling it “completely unacceptable,” and telling reporters on Monday that he was “very upset” when he became aware of it.

According to the Channel News Asia video below, Shanmugam said, “The post is wrong at many levels. First, it is insensitive and inappropriate. It carries the risk of undermining our safety, security, and harmony in Singapore. We look after the safety of everyone in Singapore – majority and minorities.” He pointed out that so far, the Jews in Singapore have “very little concern for their safety and security,” and such posts are likely to “inflame tensions and can put the Jewish community here at risk.”

And then he said something that was totally Zen: “The anger from the post can potentially spill over into the physical realm.”

Something to contemplate, preferably while in the lotus position.

Now, some facts, perhaps to confuse Minister Shanmugam.

Imam Abdul Hadi Palazzi, leader of the Italian Muslim Assembly and a co-founder and co-chairman of the Islam-Israel Fellowship, was asked close to 15 years ago what the Quran really has to say about the State of Israel, as opposed to what it says about Mohammad’s contemporary Jews and the Biblical Israelites.

Imam Palazzi set the record straight, saying, “The Qur’an cannot deal with the State of Israel as we know it today, since that State only came into existence in 1948, i.e. many centuries after the Qur’an itself was revealed. However, the Qur’an specifies that the Land of Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people, that God Himself gave that Land to them as heritage and ordered them to live therein. It also announces that – before the end of time – the Jewish people will come from many different countries to retake possession of that heritage of theirs. Whoever denies this actually denies the Qur’an itself. If he is not a scholar, and in good faith believes what other people say about this issue, he is an ignorant Muslim. If, on the contrary, he is informed about what the Qur’an and openly opposes it, he ceases to be a Muslim.”

As I mentioned above, faced with the choice of being right or smart, the Israeli embassy picked the latter, which is what diplomats should do. As for Shanmugam, all he wanted was industrial peace.

Working Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to the State of Israel, 19 to 20 March 2024

20 march 2024.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz and Minister Benny Gantz and former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett during his working visit to Israel.

Minister Balakrishnan expressed Singapore’s sympathies to all the families affected by the Hamas attacks on 7 October 2023. He reiterated Singapore’s condemnation of the acts of terror and called for the safe, unconditional and immediate release of all civilian hostages from Gaza.

During his meetings with Israeli leaders, Minister Balakrishnan expressed Singapore’s deep concern with the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. He called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to allow for the swift and unhindered delivery of aid to Gaza, especially through land based routes. Singapore will continue to work with regional partners including Jordan and Israel to facilitate the Republic of Singapore Air Force's airdrop mission to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Minister Balakrishnan reiterated Singapore’s view that Israel’s military actions in Gaza has gone too far. He called on Israel to do its utmost to protect the safety and security of civilians.

Minister Balakrishnan underscored Singapore’s support for a negotiated two-state solution consistent with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. This is the only viable pathway towards a comprehensive, just and durable peace between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Minister Balakrishnan and the Members of Parliament separately met with Members of Israel’s Knesset including those from the National Unity, United Arab List and Labour parties.

Minister Balakrishnan departs Israel today for the United Arab Emirates.

Israel's Embassy in Singapore cites Quran in futile bid to defend Jewish settlements, attacks on Gaza

Israel's Embassy in Singapore cites Quran in futile bid to defend Jewish settlements, attacks on Gaza

Israel's Embassy in Singapore removed a controversial post from its social media account in which it attempted to justify Jewish settlements on Palestinian lands and the ongoing attacks on Gaza, which have already claimed the lives of over 32,000 people, by citing the fact that Israel is mentioned 43 times in the Quran but Palestine is not mentioned once.

The post was made on the Israeli Embassy's official Facebook page on Sunday and removed the same evening, local daily The Straits Times reported.

According to the post, Israel is mentioned 43 times in the Quran but Palestine is not mentioned once, and archaeological evidence suggests that the Jewish people are the land's indigenous people.

Condemning the post, Singapore’s Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam on Monday called it “completely unacceptable,” saying he was "very upset" when he learned about it.

Shanmugam told reporters that the Ministry of Home Affairs had asked for the post to be taken down and “made our views very clear to the Israeli embassy because it is unacceptable from the perspective of safety and security in Singapore."

“We told them to take it down because of the potential consequences for the different communities within Singapore,” he maintained

Shanmugam observed that the post is incorrect on multiple levels.

"First, it is insensitive and inappropriate. It carries the risk of undermining our safety, security and harmony in Singapore," he said.

“Second, it is wrong to selectively point to religious texts to make a political point; even worse in this current situation for the Israeli embassy to make use of the Quran for this purpose."

Third, he added, this post is an "astonishing attempt to rewrite history.”

Shanmugam added that Singapore looks after the safety and security of its citizens, including minorities such as Muslims and Jews.

He said there is a vibrant Jewish community here, and that such posts can inflame tensions, putting the Jewish community at risk if the anger from the online post spills over into the physical realm.

He said the Singapore government generally does not intervene as embassies represent sovereign countries with autonomy, “but where it affects the safety and security of people in Singapore, the peace and harmony that we enjoy, we do and we will intervene.”

The minister said the writer of the post should look at the UN resolutions and “see if Israel’s actions in the past few decades have been consistent with international law before trying to rewrite history.”

Earlier, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan condemned the post as "highly inappropriate."

“It is highly inappropriate to refer to sacred texts to make political points. We have made this clear to the embassy, which has taken the post down,” he said in a statement.

Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Palestinian territory since a cross-border attack led by the Palestinian group Hamas in which some 1,200 Israelis were killed.

More than 32,200 Palestinians have since been killed and over 74,500 injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
