Millersville University’s Annual Homecoming Goes Virtual

Virtual celebrations are on tap for Homecoming 2020! on the same dates.

• No Comments on Millersville University’s Annual Homecoming Goes Virtual

Millersville University’s Homecoming, originally planned with on and off-campus events on October 23 and 24, 2020, will now shift to a series of virtual celebrations on the same dates. This shift comes as a response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. More activities and information can be found online at millersville.edu/homecoming .

The line-up of online events includes:

• Homecoming @ Home Kits: Celebrate Homecoming in the comfort of your own house with these kits that will be available for purchase. Kits are built for a family of two or a family of four and include branded Millersville items.
• Miles for Marauders: Join us for a virtual walk or run to get you moving. Entrance fees will make an impact to support students.
• Virtual Golf Tournament: Submit your golf scores from the month of October and the top 20 golfers will receive a prize!
• Selfie Scavenger Hunt: an on-campus, safe and self-guided tour with special prizes given to those who complete the challenge.
• Digital Scrapbook: Those celebrating milestone reunions this year are invited to contribute their memories to a digital scrapbook, which will be shared online.

“We wanted to be sure we found a way to celebrate our Marauder Pride together,” says Gabrielle Buzgo, interim director of alumni engagement at MU, “even if we have to do it apart for this year.”

The University had already announced that the annual Millersville Parade, originally scheduled for October 24, 2020 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The parade, a collaborative effort between Millersville University, Millersville Borough and the surrounding community is an annual event that typically attracts over 20,000 people.  The next regularly scheduled Millersville Parade is slated for Saturday, October 16, 2021

Serving in the United States military is a path many young adults take even when attending college, and the experiences gained can open up many doors for future opportunities. For Nick Merrigan, a junior construction management major and student veteran, the military has allowed him to give back to his community by working in the Veterans Resource Center at Millersville University. <br /> <br /> The Veterans Resource Center, also known as the VRC, is an on-campus center for student veterans to find support, a quiet study place or to feel an overall sense of community. Their mission is to support, engage and retain veteran and military students at MU. <br /> <br /> Merrigan, an Army active-duty veteran and currently serving in the Army Reserves, explains why he decided to work for the VRC. “I took on this role to help in any way I can. One main problem I come across are benefits. Veterans are eligible for benefits due to their service, but sometimes getting those benefits can be a pain. As a recipient of the GI Bill, helping others get set up is pertinent to their educational careers.” <br /> <br /> Not only is Merrigan a veteran, but so is his father, Dennis Merrigan, who is also an MU alumnus. His father’s service inspired him to also enlist in the Army. “My dad was a huge inspiration for my role as a soldier and as a veteran. He served his time as a tank crewmember; I also enlisted as a tank operator in 2018.” <br /> <br /> As a new worker for the VRC, Merrigan is helping to update the center to better support student veterans. “We are currently re-structuring the VRC to best accommodate student vets with any resources they may need, or just a relaxing spot for them to stop by.” <br /> Overall, Merrigan hopes to continue supporting any veteran who walks into the VRC. “I hope to help every veteran with any issue they might come across. Seeing veterans’ tasks fulfilled is easily my favorite part of the job.”<br /> <br /> #veteran #veterans #millersvilleuniversity #veteranresources

South Village

East village, west village.

Capacity from 116 to 709 students

Approximately 2000 students live on campus

6 halls have elevators while several others are ADA first-floor accessible

Each room in the residence halls at Millersville University is equipped with:

• desk chairs
• window shade or blind
• curtain rod
• cable TV jack

Suite style rooms also include:

• couch (depends on suite type)
• common room (depends on suite type)
• end tables (depends on suite type)
• All residence halls are equipped with electronic card access devices, which will permit access only to residents and University personnel with valid identification cards. Lost cards can be replaced at the University I.D. office in Boyer for a fee. When the I.D. office is closed, temporary access cards can be issued at the hall offices. When the I.D. and hall offices are not open, students who have lost or misplaced their I.D. are expected to contact their roommates or hall mates by phone to gain access to their hall.
• The halls are also equipped with peripheral door alarms, which will sound after a few seconds if the door is not properly closed. Students are expected to ensure that peripheral doors are closed properly as they exit, not to prop doors open, and not to allow non-residents who are not their guests, to enter the buildings.
