Paul Suggett has over 20 years of experience as a copywriter and creative director in advertising.

  • DeMontfort University

There's no doubt about it; the industry has gone digital. And as the traditional media choices disappear, making way for digital equivalents, so too do our news and information sources. We can no longer rely on magazines and other periodicals; by the time we get them, the news contained is already out of date.

Therefore, as a good advertising professional, you should dedicate a small portion of your day (or week, if you have very little free time) perusing great websites that contain a flurry of information. Not just news sites, but social media, content aggregators and more. Here's a list of 15 websites that you should check out daily, be it through bookmarking the sites or following them on social media.

1: The Egotist Network

If you live in a major advertising city, there will be an Egotist for you. It all started with The Denver Egotist, but now has branches in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, and even Dubai. This is a great resource for local and national news. Very few advertising blogs do the local scene well, this is the top of the bunch. It's also anonymous, meaning you get some very strong opinions on there. Bookmark your local Egotist today.

For anyone in the industry, this is a great source of information. Updated daily, sometimes hourly, it'll give you the lowdown on the latest campaigns, movers and shakers, new technologies and a lot more.

3: Buzzfeed

For the latest news and gossip, entertainment stories, videos, politics and everything else you can think of, Buzzfeed collects it all in one handy place. It's not as user-centric as Reddit, but it's still a reliable and constantly updated resource.

4: Wallpaper

Back in the day, Wallpaper* magazine was required reading in the ad agencies I worked at in London. The * referred to *stuff that refines you. And yes, it is. It's filled with the latest architecture trends, design, art, fashion, travel and lifestyle. If you want to know what the next big thing will be, you'll find it within the pages of Wallpaper.com.

5: The Verge

Just a few years old, The Verge "covers the intersection of technology, science, art, and culture." If you know anything about the direction in which our industry is heading, you'll know how applicable that statement it. Covering the latest on web & social, gaming, mobile, science, pop culture and even law, this is a "must visit daily" site.

Very few names conjure up the vision of cutting edge news and insights. Wired is one of them. This is the place to go for your tech news, business, design, entertainment, science, and predictions for the future of, well, all of the above.

7: Ads Of The World

Every day, Ads Of The World shows dozens of new campaigns from agencies all around the world. Admittedly, I find a lot of the work very formulaic, designed to win awards. But there are still hundreds and hundreds of great ideas on there, that can leave you feeling inspired. Check it out daily.

8: Adverblog

Now over ten years old, and probably the most read advertising blog in the world, Adverblog is a one-stop-shop for all the latest digital advertising and marketing. And they are insistent that they serve up "only the best ideas worldwide." Having been a regular reader from their inception, I agree.

Published by veteran advertising guru Steve Hall, AdRants promises a "no holds barred" approach to ad blogging. You get searing opinions, funny reviews , plus serious coverage of trends, strategies, viral campaigns, buzz and even industry research. This one is definitely a favorite of the ad community.

websites to visit every day

The internet is a vast, endless source of content, with hundreds of thousands of fun, interesting, and useful websites popping up every single day.

In theory, you could never get bored with everything that’s available. And yet, we’ve all been there. A blank look on your face, hands on your laptop keyboard not knowing what URL to type, scrolling through your various social media feeds to see if anything interesting is trending.

Maybe you’re procrastinating to avoid some long-overdue task. Or you’re killing time before an important Zoom meeting. Or perhaps you’re just looking for a way to relax and unwind after a long day at work, and streaming Netflix or browsing Amazon just won’t cut it.

Whatever the case, there are plenty of entertaining and engaging websites out there that can help alleviate your boredom and provide hours of fun. Here are 15 of our favorite fun websites to visit when you're bored online.

From online puzzles and quizzes to wikis that go deep into pop culture lore, these time-wasting websites are a great way to whittle away the hours.

Jurassic Systems

Few movies have made as profound an impact on pop culture as Steven Spielberg’s seminal 1993 dino-romp Jurassic Park. The epic adventure spawned a long-running film franchise (including one of 2022’s biggest pictures), and references from the original film are part of the language of millennial culture.

In the movie, there’s a sequence where Samuel L. Jackson’s character Ray Arnold attempts to hack Dennis Nedry’s computer system. With Jurassic Systems, you’re able to roleplay as Ray Arnold as you try to break into the extremely 90s computer system.

This website is a good bit of fun, delivering a healthy dose of nostalgia to your day. And while you try to figure out how to access the main program grid, remember to say the magic word — otherwise you’ll get the dreaded animation of Dennis wagging his finger at you.

TV Tropes is a website that catalogs and describes various conventions and devices (or “tropes”) found within creative works such as novels, movies, comics, and television shows. If you’ve ever thought “why do so many TV shows have this plot point in common?” you’ll find a lot of value in the analysis from this site.

TV Tropes includes a wide variety of trope examples, including plot devices, character archetypes, themes, and much more. And they tend to get extremely specific. For instance, have you heard of “Flanderization?” It’s when one personality trait of a TV character gets more and more pronounced as the show goes on, to the point where it seems to become the one and only defining trait. It’s named after the character Ned Flanders, from The Simpsons.

Once you’re hooked, you’ll find yourself spending a lot of your free time reading various entries on TV Tropes. It’s both fun and illuminating!

Radio Garden

If you’ve ever wondered what the radio sounds like in Paris, Buenos Aires, or Beirut, this is the website for you. Radio Garden greets you with a three-dimensional globe that you can rotate with your pointer, and once you select a location, the site’s built-in radio player will immediately play a live radio feed from the area you’ve selected. It’s intriguing, and something you could easily spend hours poking around in.

The site is a non-profit Dutch radio and digital research project developed by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, the Transnational Radio Knowledge Platform, and five European universities. And you won’t just find music — Radio Garden also showcases talk radio, podcasts, live comedy, and various odd feeds that make the project that much more fascinating.

Find the Invisible Cow

Find the Invisible Cow is a simple web-based game where players have to find an invisible cow hidden on the webpage. It’s sort of like "Marco Polo" — you’re guided by audio that goes from a soft murmur to a loud scream, getting louder as you approach the invisible cow.

When you find the cow, it’ll appear and make a mooing sound. The game is timed, and the player's score is based on how fast they can find the invisible cow. Once you find the cow 5 times, the game lets you find a goat. You’ll have to find the goat about 45 more times before you get to the final animal — so you might be here awhile.

Find the Invisible Cow is free to play and can be accessed through any web browser. It is a simple and entertaining game that’ll help pass the time, and is the perfect break from work.

Boohbah Zone

The Boohbah Zone is one of the strangest places on the Internet. It’s a simple interactive website which allows users to play a series of bizarre, surreal mini-games. These involve fun things like picking up apples at an orchard, helping a dog reach a beach ball hanging from the ceiling, and controlling the dancing of the “Boohbahs,” a group of plump, fuzzy, gumdrop-shaped creatures.

Sure, it may be a bit of a useless website , but the Boohbah zone is delightfully bizarre and genuinely fun. Boohbah was originally a British TV show aimed at toddlers, made by the same team that created the Teletubbies. Even though Boohbah and the Boohbah Zone may be geared towards young children, its unique brand of strangeness is compelling to any person of any age.

Weglot Like Magic!

Weglot Like Magic is an ingenious and engaging mini-game created by our friends at Refokus . Weglot is a service that provides a fast, reliable, SEO-friendly way to make websites multilingual. It’s very straightforward, with no code required and automatic detection and translation of content through the use of neural machine translation providers.

Weglot Like Magic! takes the “magic” aspect of Weglot’s services to the next level, providing an engaging experience for visitors. The website challenges users to find the meaning of the seven words displayed in different languages on the screen, using a flashlight to reveal clues hidden in the dark. It’s timed, allowing users to compete for the best score.

If you’re a fan of language, translation, and magic, you’ll find Weglot Like Magic! to be a fun challenge.

Picture this. You wake up in the middle of a field somewhere. You don’t know exactly where you are or how you got there. It doesn’t quite look like you’re in your town anymore – or even in your own country. You start to roam around looking for clues. You find some street signs, notice some unique details in your vicinity, and start to apply all your knowledge to figure out just where in the world you are.

That’s basically the Geoguessr experience. It’s a web-based game in which players are dropped into a randomly generated location on Google Street View and must guess where in the world they are based on the surrounding scenery. The game is based on the Google Maps API and includes locations from all over the world. When you make your guess, you get a point score based on how far from the actual answer your guess was.

Players can play in single-player mode or compete against others online. The game is free to play, but players can purchase additional features such as custom map options and the ability to save and share their guesses. It’s a lot of fun, and definitely something you can spend several hours getting lost in.

If you’re not only looking to be entertained but also to relax a bit, Letter Run is the online experience for you. With its pleasing animation and tranquil music, there’s something oddly soothing about this little website.

Letter Run is an interactive 3D scavenger hunt video game that is built on exploration — allowing users to roam through Edgar Allan’s magical clubhouse, follow the clues provided, collect items, and interact with the environment. It’s also a very relaxing, gentle gaming experience that’ll put you in a chill, happy mindset if you’re stressed or burnt out.

Asteroids Clone

Sometimes the best websites are the simplest. This recreation of the arcade game Asteroids is an excellent time-waster.

All you have to do is defend your space station from all of the asteroids that are hurtling towards you. That’s it! Just point and click. It’s a fun and simple game that can provide hours of entertainment.

Back in 2020, millions of people around the world had to figure out how to spend all the time they suddenly had on their hands. We were all home, bored, and worried about the future. Thankfully, Wordle was there to help us out of our funk.

Wordle is a daily web-based word game created by Josh Wardle, and is now owned by the New York Times. The website gives players six attempts to guess a five-letter word, with each wrong guess providing clues to the actual word. Wordle has a new word every day, and all players have the same word to guess.

While its popularity has decreased somewhat since its peak, Wordle is still going. It boasts an active and engaged user community who share their daily results and discuss each daily word. It’s a good, quick way to take a break and indulge in a brain teaser.

Mental Floss

If you’ve spent a good chunk of your life online, chances are you’ve come across some content from Mental Floss, one of the most popular websites on the internet. With 20.5 million unique users every month, Mental Floss is a staple of the internet experience.

Mental Floss is a website that’s all about knowledge and is aimed at providing its readers with a unique, offbeat approach to learning. The website covers a wide range of subjects, including science, history, music, language, and pop culture. The website also features quizzes (better than the ones you’ll find at Buzzfeed), videos, DIY projects, reviews of cool new gadgets, and other interactive features.

₮ⱧɆ Ɇ₦Đ Survival game

What if instead of sitting around bored, you were in the middle of a survival adventure? THE END whisks you away from your real-life boredom and puts you right at the center of a fight for your own survival, as you try your best to get home safe.

THE END is a modern spin on the classic text-based adventure games, where each choice you make sends you on a different path with radically different outcomes. Avoid the various dangers that lurk in the shadows and see if you can make it to the end unscathed!

Flappy Bird v2

Remember Flappy Bird —the viral sensation that captured the internet’s attention several years ago? The concept was simple, players had to control a cute little bird as it flew through a series of pipes by tapping the screen to make the bird fly. Android and iOS users were hooked.

Because of the game’s mechanics, Flappy Bird became an extremely popular (and extremely frustrating) game. Its gameplay was simple, but challenging, and its 8-bit look held a lot of nostalgic appeal. And the fact that the game was only around for a brief period of time before being taken down by its developer only added to the mystique around it.

Flappy Bird v2 is a web-based unofficial sequel to the original game, following the game’s odd sense of physics, its thrillingly challenging nature, and its wonderful simplicity. All you have to do is control the new bird with your space bar. Before you know it, you’ll be on your 48th attempt of the day, and people around you will start to wonder why you’ve been tapping at your space bar for 5 hours.

Know Your Meme

The world of memes moves at a terrifyingly rapid pace. And as we all know, if you stop paying attention for a minute, current memes will suddenly make no sense to you. Thankfully, websites like Know Your Meme are here to help us out.

Know Your Meme is a wiki style resource that attempts to document various internet memes as well as viral videos, image macros, gifs , catchphrases, the internet’s “main character of the day,” and more. It seeks to explain the context around the creation of each meme, as well as how they started to mutate and transform over time.

Know Your Meme not only categorizes and explains memes, it also gathers examples of each one, which is extremely helpful when trying to understand their relevance and usage. In fact, we relied on it for some history of reCAPTCHA memes .

Type Racer Game

Type Racer is a fun little game that will have you tapping away at your keyboard faster than you ever thought possible. There’s something about seeing how your typing skills are measured in real time that motivates you to try even harder and go even faster.

Unlike some of the other sites on this list, this isn’t a useless website at all. It’s great for improving your typing skills with the included practice exercises.

Technical How-tos, Tips, and Tricks

10 websites to save in favorites and visit every day.

July 4, 2022 Matt Mills Editor's Pick , Website 0

The Internet is full of websites to visit, so many that it can overwhelm anyone. As in everything, there are some that serve very specific uses and that we do not usually visit very often, but others are very useful or fun. If you know where to look, there are some websites that are worth visiting practically every day for anyone, and in this article we are going to collect some that you will even want to save in favorites so as not to lose them .

Some of these pages are very well known and I am sure that you already use them very often, but in the list you will also find other more unknown ones that you can use to make designs, for example.

10 websites to save in favorites and visit every day

If we talk about pages to visit daily, we can not forget Wordle . This game has gained enormous popularity over the months, to the point that today we have to look for many variants of all kinds, both musical and mathematical, for example.

websites to visit every day

In case you don’t know what the classic Wordle consists of, it is a game where we will have to guess a word , but for this we will have a series of limited attempts. Every time we hit a letter it will appear in yellow. If, in addition to the letter, we have guessed its position, it will appear in green and it will be easier for us to guess it.

Pexels is one of the best websites if you want to find public domain photos to use in your designs or in all kinds of publications. The page is completely free and to use it we will not even need to register.

Its operation is very simple: we will only have to search in its tool for the word or keywords that we are interested in that appear in the photo, and the web page will do its “magic” to launch thousands of similar results.

Here we are not going to discover the fire precisely. Wikipedia is one of the best-known portals on the Internet and one that more than one of us has visited to do some work at school or even at university.

websites to visit every day

It is well worth visiting daily because the web is constantly growing and expanding. Plus, it’s great for learning things you didn’t know. To do this, we have an option that works very well, which is to choose to show us a random page from all the ones it has. It’s on the left side of the screen.

Windows-swap

We hit a bit stranger ground with Windows Swap. This page will basically show us the camera of a window every time we press a button. It is very interesting to not stop seeing other parts of the world at that moment without having to move from the sofa.

websites to visit every day

If we really like a window that appears, we can save it if we register previously . We also have the possibility to share the link to a certain window or even search by location if we want (although it has a cost).

Gartic Phone

If with Wordle we had a game with which we could enjoy ourselves quietly, with Gartic Phone we will have a multiplayer experience to enjoy with friends . Using it is totally free, and if you save it in favorites, you will not stop playing with your friends.

websites to visit every day

Its operation is very simple: a room is created and each player writes something that another person must draw . The funny thing is that we will have to guess what others paint, and the most likely thing is that the drawings will end up being something very different from what they started out as.

Google news

To be informed, what better way than to use Google services? Google News closed its doors a few years ago, but luckily for us it reopened just a few days ago . The page is the best place we can search to be informed about anything.

websites to visit every day

The best of all is that we will not only have international news, but we will also be able to find other local or close to us to know everything about what surrounds us. Of course, the web will make recommendations to us and we will also be able to filter the news by its content.

The page of the State Meteorological Agency (or AEMET) cannot be missing from your favourites. It is the best solution that we can find on the net to be able to see the weather in a certain place and for a few days.

websites to visit every day

AEMET is a very complete website where we can not only see the weather in the towns, but also on the beaches . This will be great for us this summer to know when it will be worth it or not to go for a swim at the beach.

Chollometro

It is very likely that this website is already in your computer’s favorites, and there are plenty of reasons for it. Chollometro is one of the best sites that we can go to if we want to know first-hand all the offers that are appearing in the different stores .

websites to visit every day

Already on the cover we will see the most recent offers that other users have been able to see, but we will also have the option to search for what we want through its complete search engine .

Canva is another one of those sites that should not be missing from your list of favorites. This website is one of the best that we can find on the Internet to make all kinds of designs , both for personal use and even for work.

websites to visit every day

Using it is completely free and the truth is that it does not harbor much mystery. At the top we are going to find a search engine where we can enter what we want to do, and Canva will throw us a good number of templates so that we can work from them.

There are many translators on the Internet and if you know how to search, some can be quite good. Of course, we are hardly going to find one that works as well as Deepl. This free translator is capable of translating texts in multiple languages , not only English, but also others such as Chinese or Japanese.

It not only works for the texts that we paste on top, but it is also capable of translating documents in various formats such as PDF, Word or PowerPoint. A tool that cannot be missing from your favorite pages.

A browser game is a website video game – generally a puzzle emulator, multiplayer arenas, or other fun games, that can be played simply within your internet browser on a website .

These website games require no special gaming system (Xbox, PlayStation, etc), only a computer, browser, and internet connection (and that’s not always required!).

Another way to think of browser games – they’re the predecessors to gaming apps available on your smartphone – but as a web page you play on!

Card battle websites to cure boredom, "card battle website games"

Card Battle Games

If you’re anywhere near my age or younger, you likely have played with Pokémon Trading Cards or Magic the Gathering.

There are a couple of browser-based games that have this same game concept in mind.

Obtain cards, build decks, and dominate the competition. And yes, Pokémon is one of them!

  • Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel : A free-to-play re-creation of the popular collectible card game (CCG) by Konami. The game features complex and strategic 1v1 card matches with thousands of unique monsters.
  • Legends of Runeterra : A 2D online collectible card game set in the League of Legends universe. Players battle using customizable decks with different playstyles and features champions, mobs, abilities, and spells inspired by the popular MOBA.

10 Sites You Have to Check Every Day

Eric Griffith

Once you arrive at the office, how do you start your morning? You probably don't dig right into your work. (If you do, you deserve a raise.) More realistically, you hit the coffee machine and then peruse your favorite websites to catch up on the news you missed while logging your virtuous eight hours of dreamtime.

Even here at PCMag.com our browsers aren't always tuned to our own site. In fact, many of our must-read sites aren't even tech-related. Shocking, right? But it's our duty to be up on all the news that's fit to tweet. Besides, those Facebook friend requests aren't going to confirm themselves.

Remember, visiting these sites is important information gathering, not woolgathering. That way, later at the water cooler (read: on IMs to people in the same cavernous room at the office), you can show off your command of popular culture (read: who died on Game Of Thrones last night).

We've polled the masses here at PCMag and come up with a list of sites we just can't live without. So before you dive into your morning workload, be sure to check these 10 essential websites.

1. Facebook Not that you need our encouragement—it's the most popular site on the Internet, according to Alexa traffic rankings . There are more than a billion people active on Facebook per month and for some of them, Facebook is the Internet. It's where kids and adults both go to check in with friends and family around their campus, city, country, and the world; organize events; share pictures and video; and more.

2. Reuters If you're looking for sober, unbiased news coverage that's less infotainment, less political activism, and more pure journalism, then the international news agency with 160 years of history as the world's most respected wire service is probably your best choice. Established in London in 1851 to provide financial market data, Reuters built a reputation as the first to report international news scoops, including news of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Reuters online is multi-lingual, employs thousands of reporters, and hits all the highlights without the fluff. It's like normal news, except for grownups.

3. Pinterest Pinterest is a bit like Hotel California: "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"—it's that consuming. On the social pinboard site you "pin" images from around the Web to your categorized boards, and others can then repin your pics. It's a way to collect your thoughts, bookmark recipes and tips, or just get inspired. If you're not already pinning, check out how you can get started .

4. Lifehacker Your life needs some hacking and this Gawker site has the low-down on how to do it. While there's a lot of emphasis on improving your digital well-being, there are also plenty of other worthwhile tips and tricks to be found for bettering your life overall, in areas such as food, creativity, work, and travel, to name a few.

5. The Verge Former Engadget Editor-in-Chief Joshua Topolsky launched The Verge to be an accessible technology site, but one with longer, in-depth features and reviews where the design is as important as the writing. Mission accomplished. The Verge may not have the most traffic among gadget blogs (yet) but it's definitely got the buzz; it even won five Webby Awards last year. The site now also features The Verge Video, with regular video updates about the gadget world.

6. Slate.com One of the very first online magazines alongside Salon , Slate's come a long way from the days when it was owned by Microsoft. In its 17 years the online magazine has covered or argued about everything you can imagine in politics, tech, business, art, and life. It couldn't make paid subscriptions work but succeeded in podcasts, and became an award winner at the National Magazine Awards in 2011.

7. CollegeHumor Perhaps you wish you could relive your college glory days—the good times when everything was a riot. Luckily there's plenty of that fun to be had at this comedy site, home of some of the most consistently hilarious sketches and series of today. Most of the time they are NSFW (not safe for work), so check it out before the boss gets in.

8. Twitter There was a time when only a handful of the PCMag staffers had Twitter accounts. Now Twitter is a full-time companion for just about everyone here, and you're probably no exception. Even if you don't tweet anything yourself, it's the best place to read breaking news from media outlets, pithy comments from celebs and comics, and some solid lunch longreads. In fact, if you follow your favorite sites on Twitter you probably don't need to store them in your bookmarks bar.

9. Consumerist When a tech product is flawed or an online service doesn't work like it should, you'll read about it in PCMag's review. But when customer service reps refuse to listen to your cable troubles or restaurants are overcharging for their meals, you'll read about it on The Consumerist. Now owned by Consumer Reports , it's updated throughout the day and is chock-full of useful shopper information.

10. Grub Street If you're a foodie and want to keep up with restaurant and industry news, keep an eye on Grub Street and its local editions for New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. The short blurbs on this New York magazine blog are repurposed from just about everywhere. If it concerns a food law, a restaurant, a chef, or even a chain of gas station supermarkets, it'll show up here.

Exactly Why do you Need a Fun Website That Wastes Your Time?

why do you need a fun website that wastes your time

If we’re bored & have nothing productive to do, we seek ways to fill the time. Fun websites come to our rescue here, especially in times of global lockdown when we were left with only work-from-home possibilities.

A good time management skill might allow you to spend twenty minutes or a half hour just exploring. My work habits & tell me that exploring is more effective for me when I’m inspired when I see something interesting that will help me grow, even if I’m in the middle of another task. To avoid getting distracted, I’ve allowed myself to be distracted (unless I’ve set aside a block of time to work on a specific task). It’s not all the time, but enough to help me grow. Finding the right balance between executing and experimenting is key.

How Profitable Are Such Time-Wasting Websites in 2023?

Without a doubt! People look for breaks that will make them more productive while working constantly. In consequence of repetitive scrolling and stuff, checking social media accounts, emails, and so on will again bore them.

It’s for this reason that people usually look for more entertaining and fun ways to treat themselves during work breaks. There are a lot of time-wasting websites out there that are so popular that even visitors enjoy surfing them for hours.

As a result, such fun websites would be profitable.

How Much Does It Cost To Develop Such Funny Websites in 2023?

3. Is all the content on the above sites completely factual?

This depends solely on the website. These are all interesting websites, but there are no guarantees that all content is factually accurate. This is especially true of any opinion and essay content. If you doubt any of the content, consider performing additional research.

This is just a small sampling of the many locations on offer. You'll also find everything from world heritage sites, landmarks and university campuses.

Visit The Zoo

The San Diego Zoo's website offers a variety of live cameras pointed at the animals in its enclosures. Pick your favorite camera and watch the pandas, elephants, polar bears, apes or condors.

There's no sound, but maybe that's for the best. Zoos can be quite crowded and noisy. This won't be too interesting when it's night time in San Diego, though.

Tour A Museum

With the Google Art Project website, which we've mentioned before , you can explore 17 different museums from all around the world. Whether you're interested in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Palace of Versailles in France or the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, you'll find it here.

This isn't your typical museum website containing a collection of images -- far from it. Using the same technology that powers Google Street View, you can take a virtual walk through the museum of your choice and zoom in on anything that interests you.

Want to examine a piece of art? You're not looking at a low-quality image. You can zoom in and scroll around to view the art in minute detail.

Go On A Virtual Safari

Africam offers live webcams from Africa, 24/7. You'll have to watch an advertisement, but once you have, you'll get a high-quality video with sound.

Stumbling onto a quiet, nighttime scene isn't necessarily a bad thing. When I first visited, it was night time in Africa. The sound of the crickets and the wind blowing was the most relaxing thing I've heard in a long time. The live, streaming audio here is just amazing.

Sure, you could watch animal videos on YouTube, but that's not much of a virtual adventure.

Travel Almost Anywhere

Street View isn't just for famous locations. Google's Street View cars have driven through many of the world's cities and towns, photographing everything they've seen along the way. Perhaps the biggest adventure you could have is going off the beaten path. On the Google Maps website , search for a city or a place you want to visit, then drag and drop the little orange man onto the map to get started. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, pick him up and drop him anywhere.

Why not walk the streets of Tokyo?

Or stroll through Paris? You can be there in seconds.

Go off the beaten path and explore the little-known side streets and nooks and crannies you'll find along the way. It's not a slideshow - it's your adventure.

Adventure Together

You don't even have to go alone. Whether you're in a long-distance relationship or just apart for the night, why not invite your partner along with you and have a virtual adventure date? Screen-sharing software can help with this; you'll both be seeing the same sights and going on the same adventure together. While you're at it, be sure to check out our lists of unique live webcam feeds and StreetView sightseeing websites .

Inspiration is the most important thing an artist needs to be able to create.

It is a spark that lights up your desire to work and gives you the ideas to chase after. Of course, there is a possibility of going without inspiration, but it can lead to quick burnout, and nobody wants that.

Surely, there is more than one way to get inspired . You can look for the inspiration and ideas inside yourself and your own feelings, out in nature, in music or in the news. But the quickest and the most effective one is probably looking at what other artists do and/or how they do it.

It can be one artist that you love the most, several artists who work in your beloved style, or literally any kind of works that can light something up inside of you. There are no limitations and no patterns – you may choose whatever you are pleased to look at.

Looking at other artists’ works is actually also one of the most well-known and effective ways out of the art block. The key is to never compare yourself to others and just enjoy the process of drawing and acknowledging your progress, no matter how small it can be.

So, what websites exist in the wide and big Internet to give you this endless fuel of inspiration? Some of them are very well-known, and some are less popular, but it doesn’t make them worse at all.

If you decide to not only look but to post something as well, they can also help you connect with fellow artists and probably design your portfolio.

This is probably the most well-known artistic community that is used by artists of all levels: from experienced professionals to beginners who share the simplest sketches. Due to the versatility of this website, lots and lots of content is posted there by lots of members every day.

It allows you to promote yourself, participate in challenges, find friends, share your art of absolutely any kind and receive feedback. The local community is very active and supportive of artists of any genre and any experience level.

While browsing DeviantArt , you can look for anything from sculpture or photography to digital art, varying from pixel art to detailed painted landscapes. All of them are sorted into categories to make your search easier.

Originally created to be a website for designers, Behance has later expanded to offer a place for other things, like crafts, fine arts, and others. Everything is organized in tidy sections for easy browsing, and it gives you the ability to create separate galleries and share entire projects.

It’s an online gallery for professional artists, that is commonly visited by companies or businesses who want to hire someone who fits their requirements. So, it’s more of a place for your best finished works to create a portfolio, rather than a social media-like platform. You can mention your previous work experience on your profile as well.

Behance also has a “strong bond” with Adobe, which makes it extremely easy for you to share your work and promote yourself if you use their products. But even if you’re not planning on posting anything there, you can easily use Behance to check out artists’ work.

While being the not specifically artist-targeted website, Tumblr is quite popular among artists and photographers. One of its perks is that you can customize your blog however you like and organize your posts any way you want. Even though it sometimes makes some blogs harder to read, especially when they have endless scrolling instead of numbered pages.

The content is sorted by topics and hashtags rather than styles/types of arts, which also makes this platform perfect for those who create fan-art. It’s easy to gain an audience and receive feedback on Tumblr . But if you want critiques or long commentaries, this might not be the best platform choice.

The website design gives you possibilities to exchange private messages with blog owners (if they enable this option). But there’s not too much space for leaving comments to their works directly. Most people prefer to just reblog or like posts quietly.

Freelance Illustrator And College Instructor Samantha Mash (Interview #21) https://t.co/wwI9RKQbDm #interview #yourartpath — Anna from YourArtPath (@YourArtPath) May 31, 2018

After the recent changes in Tumblr censorship policy, lots of artists, who draw nudity and other 18+ things, started migrating to Twitter. It allows you to post explicit drawings in decent quality and add hashtags to make it easier for people to find your posts. Or for you to find other people’s art.

Unfortunately, one cannot organize a gallery or even add too many pictures to a single post, and the posts can’t be long. But it’s quite easy to promote yourself on Twitter and to communicate with your audience. So, artists can leave links to other platforms where people can find more of their works and support them.

Virink is a social network that was created for artists who are mostly based in Russia and Eastern Europe. Its community is growing fast and the website is also translated into English and currently can be easily used by people from any country.

One of the coolest features on Virink is the “what to draw” function , that will give you random drawing ideas when you click the button. Which is also a good idea for getting yourself out of the art block. Scrolling the website and searching for the things you want is also very easy.

Virink doesn’t contain lots of advertising and exists thanks to the personal investments of its team and the support of the website users. Which makes it a truly independent platform.

The idea of creating Ello was to make an ad-free alternative to existing popular social networks. It was created relatively recently and has evolved into a website for artists and photographers to share their works with the world.

The website’s layout is satisfyingly minimalistic and clean, and the functions allow you to repost, like and comment on posts. All posts are sorted into categories from traditional or digital art to crafts and photography.

Another wonderful feature of Ello is the possibility to sell or buy art straight on the website. There are also competitions you can join, that will help you promote yourself even more.

Despite its name, CGSociety currently offers home not for digital artworks only. But it’s still an incredible place for anyone who has a thing for digital arts. 3D renders, concept arts , 2D digital paintings – whatever your heart desires.

But not only it is a platform for sharing artworks and connecting to the audience. It also features lots of useful educational material. Various tutorials and workshops are easily accessible at the website and will help you learn (and also give you some inspiration).

CGSociety also features active forums for chatting, receiving advice and critique for your work, if you need more education. They are easy to read and search through.

Instagram is another platform which is used by a lot of artists and photographers. Despite the fact that the quality of uploaded images or videos is quite poor, it’s a website where one can easily gain an audience and use the algorithms to promote themselves.

Lots of artists don’t use Instagram as their main platform and leave links to their portfolios or personal websites for better image quality. But despite that, lots of things are posted there daily, and you can easily fill your feed with inspiring content.

The ”explore” function will let you find even more interesting posts, related to the most popular trends and to topics you show interest in. Subscribing to hashtags will also give you the most popular content with these hashtags in your feed.

ArtStation is considered to be the fastest-growing digital art community. A lot like Behance, it’s a very convenient platform for creating a portfolio, adding links to your other social media, and even find yourself a job.

Browsing this website is easy, and you can scroll through different sections, choose specifically 2D or 3D arts, particular projects, etc. There are traditional artworks on this platform as well. But ArtStation is really leaning more towards digital art, so there won’t be too many of them and they won’t be too popular.

What makes it an amazing resource is the fact that it also features a marketplace (for 3D models, brushes and other things) as well as educational resources. So dive right in and get inspired.

Doodle Addicts

Doodle Addicts will win your heart over if you are into simple drawings. Also if sketches, scraps, and doodles are what inspires you the most (at least, at some particular moment). Sometimes quick sketches are the best in capturing emotions.

The “discover” section will offer you a large variety of drawings made with different materials, as well as digital art, and in different styles and genres. You can also search for artists based on their location if that’s what you need.

Doodle Addicts features a marketplace and some educational materials as well. Participating in numerous challenges the website offers and winning actual prizes can also be quite inspiring, isn’t it?

Pinterest isn’t really a website devoted specifically to art. In fact, people use it for all kinds of things, like DIY tutorials, recipes, and cat pictures.

But this is what actually makes it interesting. You can search for the materials you want and create separate collections and moodboards of your own, sorting them however you like. It’s kind of like a digital scrapbook full of things you love , either a public or a private one.

You can also follow other people to see what they are sharing and find more inspiring content. Art tips, art-related tutorials, guides, and techniques can also be found in there quite easily.

Follow me on Pinterest for blog updates and daily inspiration! 🙂

Pixiv is a Japanese website meant mostly for Japanese-speaking audience. So, if you know the language, are interested in the culture or in what’s going on in the Japanese art community – this is a place for you.

Of course, you can use it if you speak English, and change the website language to English. But most of the userbase is Japanese, hence most of the content is named in the Japanese language.

The search algorithms are updating constantly, and you can use tags while searching. And you can find more results by simply using any kind of online translator to translate a couple of words you’re looking for to Japanese.

It’s a perfect place as well if you love and enjoy anime art style or manga comics . The artists are able to upload full galleries if they draw a complete long manga .

Even though all of the websites mentioned are quite good for making you inspired, they still have some differences. And the differences are based on what you want, what layout styles are the most convenient for you and how much time you are willing to devote to this.

Knowing that, you can make a choice on which website from this list you would like to visit from time to time. Or maybe even all of them.

As the saying, that is believed to belong to John Lennon, goes:

“Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted”.

We all sometimes need to get our creative cup filled with inspiration in order to be ready to work again.

With that in mind, we can say that there is nothing wrong with spending some time scrolling through the web to find nice ideas.

So arm yourself with the list of inspirational sources of choice and have fun!

Fewer people are using Elon Musk’s X as the platform struggles to attract and keep users, according to analysts

Workers install lighting on an "X" sign atop the company headquarters, formerly known as Twitter, in downtown San Francisco, on July 28, 2023.

The number of people using X daily is falling, more than a year after tech billionaire Elon Musk bought the app formerly known as Twitter.

Data from two research firms and figures published by Musk and X suggest a deteriorating situation for X by some metrics. Musk has marketed it as the world’s “town square,” but in number of users it continues to lag far behind social media rivals that focus on video, such as Instagram and TikTok.

In February, X had 27 million daily active users of its mobile app in the U.S., down 18% from a year earlier, according to Sensor Tower, a market intelligence firm based in San Francisco. The U.S. user base has been flat or down every month since November 2022, the first full month of Musk’s owning the app, and in total it’s down 23% since then, Sensor Tower said.

The numbers were nearly as bad worldwide, as daily active users on the mobile app fell to 174 million in February, down 15% from a year earlier, the firm said. The worldwide user base has been flat or down every month during Musk’s tenure began except one, when it grew slightly in October and then resumed falling, according to Sensor Tower.

Other social media apps experienced modest increases in their worldwide user bases during the same period, according to the research, with Snapchat growing 8.8%, Instagram 5.3%, Facebook 1.5% and TikTok 0.5%. Those apps all experienced declines over that period in the U.S., but none was as steep as the decline on X.

X had “the most material decline in active users compared to its peers,” Abe Yousef, a senior insights analyst at Sensor Tower, wrote in a research report.

“This decline in X mobile app active users may have been driven by user frustration over flagrant content, general platform technical issues, and the growing threat of short-form video platforms,” he wrote.

Under Musk’s ownership, X has relaxed content moderation rules that previously limited hateful content , such as white supremacist imagery, and Musk has welcomed back to the platform some users whom the old Twitter management had banned. In December, he reinstated the accounts of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his Infowars website and then held a public audio-only event with Jones.

X said in a post Monday that the worldwide number is higher than what Sensor Tower data shows, with 250 million people using X every day globally. That would still be a decrease from when Musk bought the app. Musk said in 2022 that, at about the time he completed the purchase in late October, Twitter had about 258 million “monetizable daily active users,” the company’s metric at the time.

X didn’t respond to a request for additional information. It didn’t say how it defines who counts as an active user — a metric that by its name may appear straightforward but that tech platforms define differently.

On a monthly basis, X has 550 million people using it, according to the company . That figure represents growth of 1.5% since July, when Musk said X had 542 million monthly users.

Sensor Tower defines a daily active user as someone who “registered a session of at least two seconds in length, once in that day.” It says its data comes from a panel of consumers who provide access to their information in exchange for the use of other apps, including apps that track screen time.

Advertisers have also left X, Sensor Tower said, with 75 out of the top 100 U.S. advertisers on X from October 2022 having ceased ad spending on it. The exodus spiked toward the end of last year, after Musk publicly embraced an antisemitic conspiracy theory and told advertisers at a conference in New York, “Go f--- yourself.”

In recent days, Musk has urged his 177 million followers on X to get more people onto the platform. On Sunday, he posted instructions for how to share posts with friends, a basic function of social media.

“Please send links from this platform to your friends who are still being misled by the legacy media!” he wrote in a separate post Sunday.

Musk has also shifted the platform’s business model from being almost entirely ad-supported to one that also has four subscription tiers, from free to a Premium+ service that starts at $16 a month.

Sensor Tower said that, according to its research, X’s revenue from in-app purchases last month was about $9.5 million, including for X subscriptions and payments to creators.

“This still remains just a fraction of revenue that the company was previously generating from advertising in its last year as a public entity,” Yousef wrote. Twitter in July 2022 reported $1.18 billion in revenue for the previous three months.

X has been helped by the lack of a clear text-based social media alternative. Threads, a competitor launched by Instagram and its parent company, Meta, had 1.6 million daily active U.S. mobile users in February, according to Sensor Tower, and 14 million worldwide.

Threads has a potential major advantage over other upstart apps because it is closely integrated with Instagram — users of Instagram can see Threads posts in their feeds and create accounts relatively easily. That has translated into a whopping disparity in downloads, according to a second research firm, Apptopia, based in Boston, which said Threads beat X in downloads worldwide by an 8-to-1 ratio in February.

Downloads were even more lopsided in the U.S. in February, with Threads getting about 16 downloads for every one download of X, Apptopia said.

“For microblogging platforms, X had dominant market share of app downloads right up until Threads launched,” Tom Grant, vice president of research at Apptopia, wrote in an email. “That turned market share completely on its head.”

There were 2.9 million downloads of X in the U.S. in February, up 14% from a year earlier but still below the 3.7 million in October 2022, the month Musk bought the company, according to Apptopia. Threads had 46.2 million downloads last month, Apptopia said.

Threads has ranked highly in some app store rankings lately, topping Apple’s chart for free apps Sunday and staying in the Top 4 for most of this week. X ranked No. 34 on the Apple app store Sunday and No. 30 on Friday. On Friday, Threads ranked No. 7 in Google’s Play store and X ranked No. 43.

But so far, the downloads haven’t translated into sustained growth for Threads, according to Sensor Tower. Another X competitor, Bluesky, was even smaller, with 195,000 U.S. daily active mobile users in February, according to the research firm.

In its own data summary published Monday, X said that “1.7 million people join X every day.” That number is roughly triple the number of daily X downloads worldwide, according to Apptopia, and it suggests that X is growing at a rate of nearly 10% per month — far faster than any other source indicates.

2024 NFL trade grades: Assessing every notable deal of the offseason, from Justin Fields to L'Jarius Sneed

Which teams made out the best.

justin-fields-bears-usatsi.jpg

The 2024 NFL offseason is far from over, with a number of notable veterans still available in free agency and the quarterback-stocked draft just around the corner. But with April on the horizon, it's safe to say most of this year's big-name trades have come and gone, with more than a dozen different player-involved deals going down since mid-March.

Here, we're grading all the notable trades to involve players from the buyers' perspective:

Titans acquire CB L'Jarius Sneed

Getting a Pro Bowl-caliber, title-winning cover man for a future third-rounder is objectively good value, but there are still some fair questions here: Will Tennessee be truly competitive before Sneed, 27, approaches 30 on a top-of-the-market contract at a notoriously volatile position?

Steelers acquire QB Justin Fields

Fields battled injuries and untimely turnovers in three years with the Bears , but he also got mostly woeful support from the team. Giving up a conditional future sixth-rounder for a 25-year-old quarterback with starting experience and proven dual-threat electricity is a no-brainer of a low-risk, high-reward bet.

Eagles acquire QB Kenny Pickett

Did Philadelphia need to spend the rough equivalent of a fourth-rounder on a new backup for Jalen Hurts ? Not really. Pickett also looked more resilient than dynamic as a middling Steelers starter. But he still offers lots of experience on a cost-controlled rookie deal for a modest price.

Bears acquire WR Keenan Allen

Allen may not be far from the finish line going on 32, but when healthy, he's remained one of the NFL's most reliable possession targets deep into his career. By teaming the longtime Chargers star with D.J. Moore , the Bears have ensured their next young signal-caller will have a pair of premier pass targets.

Seahawks acquire QB Sam Howell

Could Howell replace Drew Lock as a viable spot starter behind Geno Smith ? Sure. For what amounts to a fourth-rounder, though, Seattle is adding a former fifth-round pick who registers as more of a half-measure at the position: gutsy arm, iffy early resume from the Commanders .

Falcons acquire WR Rondale Moore

Atlanta was probably more motivated to add help for Kirk Cousins than outright dump Desmond Ridder , who went to Arizona in the player-for-player swap. Moore is far from a sure thing, missing 16 games in three NFL seasons, but he at least adds deep speed, whereas Ridder's role had vanished.

49ers acquire DT Maliek Collins

San Francisco gave up a single seventh-rounder for an eight-year starter fresh off a career year with DeMeco Ryans ' Texans defense. Plugged in next to guys like Nick Bosa , Javon Hargrave and Leonard Floyd , he'll be primed for more gap-stuffing production.

Panthers acquire WR Diontae Johnson

Was this Carolina adding help for Bryce Young , or the Steelers axing a disgruntled vet? Probably both. Johnson certainly improves Young's once-porous lineup for a small price -- so-so cornerback Donte Jackson and a pick swap -- but he still profiles as more of a No. 2 type.

Texans acquire RB Joe Mixon

Mixon is a fine, battle-tested veteran, and his numbers will surely get a boost from playing alongside C.J. Stroud . His trade price tag -- a seventh-round pick -- is also minimal. But this deal coincided with an inexplicable $19.75 million extension giving the oft-inefficient ball-carrier top-seven running back money.

Giants acquire OLB Brian Burns

Burns is a young, steady, Pro Bowl pass rusher, so getting him for a second- and fifth-rounder is big, giving the Giants a truly formidable front seven. The downside: He costs a ton, earning more than every edge rusher except Nick Bosa at $28 million per year, and he's been more sturdy than special in the sack department.

Lions acquire CB Carlton Davis

Davis gives Detroit's secondary more credibility, offering six solid years of experience as an outside starter in exchange for a third-rounder (the Buccaneers also gave two sixths). But he's missed multiple games every year and graded out just OK in pass coverage in 2023.

Jaguars acquire QB Mac Jones

Jones wore out his welcome with the Patriots as a shoddy, pocket-limited starter. Like Justin Fields and Kenny Pickett, he also had poor support. In Jacksonville for just a sixth-rounder, he at least gives Doug Pederson a developmental point guard behind Trevor Lawrence .

Browns acquire WR Jerry Jeudy

The former first-rounder never fully met expectations with the Broncos , but Cleveland needed another outlet opposite Amari Cooper , and for just a fifth- and sixth-rounder, Jeudy gives the Browns a high-upside long-term possession target; he's still going on just 25.
