Do you want to take your favorite fragrance with you, but don’t want to carry around a bulky perfume bottle? A travel bottle is the perfect choice to bring your perfume wherever you’re heading, and it’s so easy to fill them up without making a mess. How you fill your travel bottle depends on the type you have and the container your perfume is already in, but we’re here to walk you through them all. Keep reading, and you’ll be able to smell great no matter where you are!

Things You Should Know

• Fit the bottom of a metal travel atomizer onto the perfume’s nozzle, and pump the sprayer until the bottle is full.
• Spray perfume with a metal atomizer directly into a plastic travel bottle.
• Put a funnel on a plastic or glass travel bottle to transfer perfume out of a splash bottle.

• The sprayer on your perfume may be metal or plastic depending on the fragrance you have.
• If you have trouble pulling the sprayer off, wrap it in a paper towel and grip it with a pair of pliers.
• Metal travel atomizers can’t be refilled from a splash bottle without a sprayer.

• If you don’t see an opening on the bottom of your travel bottle, carefully slide the metal casing off to expose the opening.
• A typical travel perfume bottle holds 50 full sprays or about 0.13 fluid ounces (3.8 ml).

• A bit of perfume may spray out when you put the sprayer back on, so point the bottle toward a sink so it doesn’t get into your eyes.
• It’s normal if your travel bottle doesn’t spray perfume for the first few pumps after you fill it. The first few pumps remove the air from the bottle before it starts spraying perfume.

• Leave at least 1 ⁄ 4  in (0.64 cm) of space at the top of your travel bottle so you can easily replace the sprayer.
• Put a small funnel in the mouth of the travel bottle to help catch all of the perfume so it doesn’t make a mess.
• Alternatively, take the sprayer off of the main perfume bottle and fit a plastic syringe over the nozzle. Press down on the nozzle and pull the syringe plunger up to pull out the fragrance. Then, put the syringe down in the travel bottle and press the plunger down to fill it. [7] X Research source

• Put the cap on your travel bottle so the sprayer doesn’t accidentally get pressed down in your bag.
• If your travel bottle comes with a decorative, metal casing, simply slip it off so you can see how much perfume is in the travel bottle.
• Since splash bottles don’t have an atomizer that sprays, you apply it by dabbing a small amount of perfume or cologne onto your neck or wrist.

To refill a perfume travel bottle, first pull of the cap from your main bottle so you’re left with the nozzle sticking out. Really enjoyed my experience here, the ladies helping me were very kind and knowledgable. Customer Service was top tier -- I can understand that being on a busy strip, there is a lot of foot traffic. So people come and spray themselves and just leave. This could lead to employees predetermining which customers are serious vs not. However, the ladies here didn't mind helping each and every customer. I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped in. They came and asked if I needed any assistance, which "scents" I gravitated towards whether sweet or oud, etc. It didn't seem like the typical Nordstrom experience where I am helped with the preconceived notion that I am going to waste someone's time. I even came back 2 days later to pick up a second scent instead of driving to a closer Berkeley location. The two scents I picked were -- Tonka - definitely underrated, it sat well on my buddy but I will stick with my Noir scent for now Santal 33 - initially, I didn't like the overpowering leather scent but after it settles, it smells creamy and subtly sweet Overall, located in a heavy foot traffic area but the employees are kind and there to help each and every customer.

We've been shopping online since we don't live anywhere near a store so when we got a chance to stop by Santana Row, we decided to check this place out. Nice little store; I like the decor and lighting! Even the decorative sink which, at first, I thought was functional so when I accidentally sprayed my hand with a tester (and didn't want it to mix with what I was wearing) I asked if it was working and Adam went on and on about what it would take for it to work. Like really a simple yes or no answer would've sufficed. I did realize it was decorative as soon as I asked. Anyway, we already have a couple bottles at home but liked another scent so we thought we'd try it out and get a small bottle for now (commitment issues). Adam, again went on and on about "the value" of getting the bigger bottle and since we had somewhere to be at, I told hubby to just get it as I know the perfume has to be mixed and bottled. Tried the lotion and liked the texture and scent. I really wanted to get the rose 31 but hubby isn't ready to spend $80 on a bottle of lotion. I'm giving this place 4 stars because I like the products and the store. Adam's customer service skills aren't bad (even one of his friends that were there to hang out during their breaks was friendly and pleasantly chatty) but for an upscale store, I expected better interaction. Maybe tone down the sarcasm because it was neither funny nor appropriate. Till next time.

The worst costumer service! I am westing my time here with a half perfume who's changed his smell because god know why . I contact with costomer service over Emil and the told me come and we will take care of it . When I came they told me the person who's Emil me back make a mistake and they can't do nothing about that and the district manger Melissa she saying basically " can't help pay the full amount " so disappointed not from the smell who's changed more from the place you don't really with who to speak with and they can't take any responsibility over there costumers . I spend lots of $$$ there and if it's coming to someone you lost a good costomer! And his recommendation

So happy there is a Le Labo near me. Thé Matcha is one of my Signature Scents. I fell in love with it when one of the workers graciously gifted me a sample of it a few months back. I returned and treated myself with a larger bottle. Honestly the magic of Le Labo is how each of their scents is imbued with a sort of magic that creates a signature and unique scent on everyone's body based on their natural smell. Perhaps it is also how Le Labo's perfumes lace itself with your own pheromones? Who knows, but their perfumes are my favorite. ALSO! I fell in love with their sample scent that was used on my wrapping paper. I will definitely be back to purchase a bottle of their new Tokyo line Gaiac 10...ugh obsessed.

What a beautiful store and helpful team! I went in looking for specific items, and the staff was able to help guide me through my choices and provided extensive knowledge and feedback.

One of my best sensorial experiences in San Jose as of now. I am a perfume lover and scent lover of almost anything that smells great (candles, incense, resines, the smell of flowers and rain...) and OMG Le Labo was sensational. Special gratitude goes to the lab technician who explained to my colleagues and I all the notes, answered all our questions with precision and professional attitude (one was visiting from Seattle and we were showing her Santana Row, so the impression she took back from was awesome). I am so glad that this colleague was visiting so I did not feel shy to enter in the store knowing that most probably I would not buy on the spot. Not that I am shy but in the context of a high end perfume lab I don't want to make the person waste their time if I don't plan to buy...however the quality of the scent, the aesthetics of the store and even the lighting drove me later on to the website to get to know more about the notes so I can make an informed decision. After all, the prices are steep (which is expected from high caliber perfumeries. Possibility of refilling makes the prices more affordable if you become an usual user. I learned about labdanum coming from resin of the lamb (that is what I understood!) and my favorite oud or agarwoo from the most expensive wood on earth sometimes referred to as 'liquid gold'. A delightfully sensorial visit to Le Labo fully recommended!

Love coming into this store. Pricey, but for stuff like this (custom made/limited edition), Le Labo is definitely the type of store-fragrance you want to pay attention to. Bought a gift for a good friend back in March, and found myself coming back to the store for a new bottle. September is the city exclusive month where they have various fragrances on sale unique to a handful of cities. Love coming in and learning more about the products/detail that goes into their work. Shoutout to Monts for being super friendly and helpful!

I go this store few times this year.the product are ok...but why the girls working never want to help? Dont know if it same girl but they always on the phone or pink laptop. One with the glasses. The guy are much nicer. other store they are much nicer lol. They used to have the trash in the table but its not there no more and the table get messy, dont know why they do that to customers but its not good. Other le labo seems to be better

The experience I had at Le Labo was 10/10. I'm glad that there is a store front now because I wanted to smell the scents to get familiar with it, since I haven't had the chance to smell all of them. I came in thinking I wanted this one scent, but I tried the other ones and boy, I was wrong. I didn't catch her name, but she was very knowledgeable and very helpful. I was deciding on two scents and she really went into great detail about both of them. She wasn't pushy and told me to take my time walk around and sit on it and see which one you like the best and come back. She made me feel really comfortable and the aesthetics of this place is 10/10. Definitely coming back to get the ANOTHER 13 :) I wish I got the girls name =/

• Air travel smells worse than ever. Here’s how to fix it

Air travel stinks.

You don’t have to tell that to Danielle Belyeu, who recently was stuck next to a passenger with a strong body odor on a flight from the Caribbean island of Curaçao to Miami. 

“Thank goodness the flight was only a couple of hours,” says Belyeu, a travel adviser from Summerville, S.C.

Being a travel pro, she came prepared: A lightly scented spray bottle of hand sanitizer held the stench at bay during the flight.

There’s a war of scents going on at 36,000 feet, and it’s escalating in ways you can’t see (but will probably smell). Some passengers are treating personal hygiene as if it’s optional. Others are taking matters into their own hands by spraying unapproved scents. Airlines, meanwhile, are maintaining a double standard for smells.

What are airline policies for smells?

It turns out airlines have rules about smells, but they’re problematic. 

For example: 

• American Airlines’ contract of carriage , the legal agreement between you and the airline, says it can refuse to transport “persons who have an offensive odor such as from a draining wound.”
• Delta Air Lines also reserves the right to refuse transportation “when the passenger’s conduct, attire, hygiene or odor creates an unreasonable risk of offense or annoyance to other passengers.”
• United Airlines has a similar provision , refusing to carry “Passengers who have or cause a malodorous condition.”

At the same time, airlines have given themselves a broad license to release their scents on the plane. 

A few years ago, United reportedly began using a proprietary fragrance called Landing (orange peel, bergamot, cypress) in its cabins. Delta Air Lines perfumed its planes with Calm (lavender and camomile). During the pandemic, airlines sprayed the cabin interiors with chemical cleaners that left some passengers with a headache. And don’t even get me started on the lungfuls of jet fuel fumes that sometimes waft through the cabin before takeoff.

Like I said, it’s a war of scents up there.

Why airline passengers are holding their noses

Reports of smelly aircraft have been in the news lately. There was that flatulent passenger on an American Airlines flight from Phoenix to Austin, Texas. One witness said it became so unbearable that the flight turned around and headed back to the gate to remove the malodorous traveler. 

Last year, two Air Canada passengers were removed from a flight because they reportedly wouldn’t sit in vomit-covered seats. The airline later apologized.

Many of the smells come from the cargo hold. One frequent offender is durian fruit, with its distinctive odor of honey, sewage and rotting onion. It has forced several planes to make emergency landings. Many airlines ban durian fruit despite its popularity in Asia.

My worst odor experience happened many years ago when I flew from New York to Vienna on a Soviet-made aircraft operated by the Romanian flag carrier Tarom. 

I was stuck in the back of the plane, and the moment the “no smoking” lights went out, it seemed like every passenger — including the kids — lit up at the same time. But that wasn’t the only problem. The bathrooms were directly behind me, and someone had poured a chemical that smelled like cherry and battery acid into the toilets, which started to overflow within an hour of departure.

It was a long flight.

How to fight against the smells without breaking the rules

So what should you do if you encounter a bad smell on a plane? Before you go spraying perfumes and air fresheners — which your airline might not allow — here are a few less invasive strategies.

Say something. Find someone who can help you. A flight attendant might be able to move you to a different seat or, if the flight hasn’t left yet, remove the offending smeller. “Politely tell the attendants right away,” says Jackson Groves, a frequent air traveler and adventure travel blogger. “Working together, I’m sure they can fix it or make it more bearable.” 

Address the problem — politely. If the problem is a person, you may be able to negotiate a truce. “One person’s dream scent is another person’s nightmare,” says etiquette expert Nick Leighton. If you see someone spraying cologne on the seat, you may want to remind them that it’s polite to remain odor-neutral.

Improvise. That’s what Uneaka Daniels, a reading specialist from Bermuda, does when she’s sitting next to a passenger with body odor issues. She carries a white scarf with diffusing beads that contain essential oils. Technically, she’s not spraying anything. She used that strategy on a recent flight to London. “The guy next to me did not smell pleasant, and it was a six-hour flight,” she remembers.

And don’t be part of the problem. If you think you might create a smell on the plane, refrain from any activity that might stink the cabin up. That includes eating a big Italian dinner with extra garlic, Polish sausage and durian. Definitely avoid durian. 

“And please do not wear perfume when you know you will board an airplane,” adds manners expert Adeodata Czink. “It bothers the people seated around you, and they can’t leave the plane.”

But is there a way to defuse this smell-a-palooza? Maybe.

How to fix the air travel smells

There’s a way to call a truce in the odor war on planes, but it will require some leadership from the airline industry. 

It starts with creating a commonsense standard for flights and holding everyone to them. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety offers some suggestions for creating a scent-free policy.  

That means asking passengers to attend to their personal hygiene and refrain from using perfume and cologne before the flight. An airline might also issue a formal policy limiting scented products on the plane. Things like smelly aftershave, essential oils, lotions and soaps would be verboten.

Most important, airlines need to hold themselves to the same standard they set for passengers. In other words, no industrial cleaners in the bathroom and no signature scents called “calm,” “happy” or “I want to sign up for your addictive loyalty program.”

Scents are a serious problem on planes. Strong body odors can literally make you vomit. Chemicals in scented products can create headaches, nausea, upper respiratory problems, and skin irritation.

It’s time for the scent war to end on the plane. Wait until you land to slather on the Chanel Bleu or douse yourself in lavender oil.
