More Will Sparks

Will Sparks has announced a run of world tour dates to take place this autumn, with the Melbourne DJ including Australia on his tour poster, albeit with the tour dates blacked out.

With four dates between 6 April and 30 April, Sparks’ Australian return might be perfect timing for an iconic music festival: Ultra Worldwide.

Ultra returns to two Australian cities this April, the inaugural Ultra Beach Gold Coast (Friday, 12 April) and Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse on Saturday, 13 April.

In November, Ultra announced the 2024 headliners , pioneers  Zedd ,  Armin van Buuren ,  Carl Cox  (Melbourne exclusive) and  Steve Aoki . Legends like Darren Styles and Brennan Heart will join them. Festival organisers hinted at a “phase two”, meaning that more acts would be announced. We’re hoping for Sparks, who has performed at the festival in the past.

Sparks will be touring the globe from February through to May, hitting New Zealand, Asia, Canada, the US, Australia, Europe and the UK. Keep your eyes on Sparks’ upcoming Australian tour dates, which we hope will be Ultra festival appearances and after-party shows.

IM OUT. Name your dates 🥵 Posted by Will Sparks on  Thursday, February 1, 2024

The inaugural Ultra Beach Gold Coast is celebrating its beginnings as a single-stage event. At the same time, the Melbourne version will host the Main Stage, Resistance Stage and the UMF Radio Stage, while a fourth stage will be dedicated to hosting hardstyle music.

The 2023 edition of Ultra, in Melbourne only,  hosted headliners   Sub Zero Project,  Darren Styles, prominent techno DJ  Deborah De Luca,  Australia’s own multi-platinum live-instrumentalist  Timmy Trumpet  and heavy hitter  Hardwell,  who performed in Australia for the first time since 2014.

Ultra officially landed in Melbourne in 2019, allowing Australian electronic music fans to experience Ultra first-hand. Since then, it's become a staple festival in the electronic community, with major acts such as Afrojack, Alesso, Oliver Heldens , and fan favourite Steve Aoki blessing the Aussie stage.

STEPHANIE MILLER

National morning drive radio talk show and television star Stephanie Miller is a wildly popular performer with a huge and fervently devoted audience. The Stephanie Miller Show is heard nationally on satellite and terrestrial radio and is simulcast on FreeSpeech TV, reaching more than six million-plus listeners weekly. Prior to going national, Stephanie pulled #1 ratings at KABC and KFI in Los Angeles, as well as at radio stations in New York City and Chicago.

Among her many demographic achievements, Stephanie consistently leads her time slot among males 25-54, a tribute to her strong Sexy Liberal following. She’s been highly ranked on Talkers Magazine’s “Heavy Hundred” list for well over a decade, was winner of Talkers Magazine’s Woman of the Year Award and has been nominated to become a member of The Radio Hall Of Fame. She is also the founder of the successful Sexy Liberal Podcast Network and is a Liberal icon, which is ironic since her father, Congressman William E. Stephanie Miller’s sold-out Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour was the fastest-selling comedy tour in history during its first two years barnstorming across America. The tour was nominated for three of the live performance industry’s prestigious Pollstar awards, including Best Tour, Best New Tour and Best Lead Comedy Performer for Stephanie. The tour hit the road again to sold-out crowds for the next three years. The album recording of The Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour quickly became the number one Comedy Album in America.

Stephanie was featured in LA Weekly as “The Voice of The Resistance.” “There’s no bulls***,” Rob Reiner, director of This Is Spinal Tap and When Harry Met Sally, says of Miller. “She doesn’t mince words and she doesn’t throw out lies.”

Lest there be doubt about Miller’s influence, no less than MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow bestowed her imprimatur on Miller: “She is,” Maddow said on her show, “The high priestess of excellent liberal talk.” Comedy legend Carol Burnett declared that Stephanie is “the Carol Burnett of radio.” Stephanie’s 2015 memoir, Sexy Liberal! Of Me I Sing, immediately rose to Number One on Amazon’s in Political, Humor, and Memoirs lists and continues to have a five star rating on Amazon.

Sparks are a rock duo hailing from Los Angeles, California, USA who originally formed in 1968. The band, founded by brothers Ron Mael (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals), are known for being able to combine their unique eccentricities with sublime pop songwriting.

I think it’s safe to say that when a band influences Kurt Cobain, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, Bjork and ABBA simultaneously in their time, they’ve done something right. Those five artists are a mere fraction of the people who the Mael brothers have inspired in their time and even when giving them a cursory listen, it makes sense. This stems from the fact that Sparks are a deeply strange band, to the extent that Bob Harris, the BBC’s general music guru, called them a cross between Frank Zappa and The Monkees. From their bizarre lyrics and samples, to Russell Mael’s almost comical falsetto, they are a sign that a band or artist can be as weird as they please and, so long as they have the songs to back it up, people will still love them for a very long time.

For that reason alone, it’s understandable that such a diverse array of artists would be inspired by them. However, there’s a lot more to this band than strangeness. For example, people who know them for their post-punk hits in the early 80’s might be surprised to learn that they predate many of the bands that they inspired. The Mael’s spent their early teens in the golden age of the L.A club scene, catching the likes of The Doors, Love and The Beach Boys all essentially playing live on their doorstep. However, as the sixties went on and the pop scene started being taken over by folk, which they detested, they started listening to bands coming out of the U.K, like the Who, The Move and Pink Floyd.

Inspired by what they heard, they put together a band called Halfnelson in1968, who got the attention of another alternative rock icon of the future, Todd Rundgren. He was a producer at the time, and after he started championing the band they were signed to Bearsville Records. Their self-titled debut album was released soon after that but it wasn’t a hit, the band decided to go back to the drawing board, and after they renamed themselves Sparks, their fortunes started to change. Slowly, of course, their debut single as Sparks “Wonder Girl” was only a mild regional hit but it was a hit nonetheless.

It was their second album, 1973’s “A Woofer In Tweeter’s Clothing”, that really got things moving for the band and made them a name in their spiritual home country, the U.K. The success of the album there led to a tour and a residency at London’s world famous Marquee club, which led to one night where they were supported by a bunch of no-hopers by the name of Queen. By the end of the year, they’d had an appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test and a record deal with Island Records. Their breakthrough album came the following year, preceded by the single “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us”. No lesser name than Elton John bet its producer Muff Winwood that it wouldn’t make it into the charts. It hit number 2, and it’s still one of the most enduring hits of the early 70’s. I’m sure Elton’s still losing sleep over it.

The band had become a sensation in the U.K, appearing on the cover of Melody Maker and Record Mirror in quick succession with their single “Amateur Hour” also hitting the top 10 with panache. By 1975 the band finally returned to the states for a tour of the cities where, ironically enough, the news of Sparks’ success in the U.K had translated into major interest. The tour translated into a renewed interest in the band, with radio play and a slot on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand in the same year.

Since then, the band have continued to be alternative icons, never letting their music get stale or samey and never being afraid to change their own format to fit their new style. They continued having hits well into the 80’s, where their collaboration with Giorgio Moroder “The Number One Song In Heaven” was a top 20 hit and an inspiration for many a budding synth-pop group. Even thirty years after their heyday they were able to play an astonishing 20 nights at the 800 capacity Islington Academy in London, where they played each of their studio albums in full on every night, before premiering their new album at the time with a sold out show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Sparks then, truly a band who will never be replicated, and we should all be thankful to have them. One to see as soon as possible.

Over the course of a career that has now spanned more than forty years, Los Angeles brothers Ron and Russell Mael have enjoyed a great many plaudits for their work as Sparks, but perhaps none as great as being described by legendary Vancouver music journalist Nardwuar the Human Serviette as his favourite band of all time. It’s not difficult to understand why the famously verbose Canadian would take to Sparks, either; their lyrical style is intelligent, witty and often highly complex, whilst their stage shows have always been theatrical, littered with the band’s own trademarks - they might well be the ultimate cult band, in that respect. They’re still a going concern today, too, with 2009 seeing the release of their latest album; The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman is a fantasy pop opera, just in case you wondered if the Mael brothers had become less experimental with age. Later this year, too, they’ll return to the UK to play their seminal third record Kimono My House in full, for two nights at London’s Barbican Centre; fans should expect a typically idiosyncratic show, with a slew of other cuts likely to be thrown in alongside the album and a stage show that does justive to both the record and the band themselves.

Sparks' performance at the O2 Institute was the epitome of power, energy and passion. Backed by a superbly professional and tight band the brothers Mael worked their way through several songs from their recent album interspersed with classics from their extensive back-catalogue. Russell's energy enthused a tightly packed audience - anyone would be grateful of even half his energy levels for a man of his age - whilst brother Ron was as straight-faced as ever...at least until his customary dance routine!

By the end of the night the Maels appeared genuinely moved by the response that they had so deservedly earned whilst the venue itself provided the perfect blend of size and intimacy.

A band not to be missed.

Sparks were the first band I ever recorded on a mono tape recorder as a kid. The same feeling returned when Sparks performed their old classics at Birmingham Institute and their recent stuff was just as excellent. Delivered by a group who obviously give it their all and give a damn about why they bothered to stand on a stage in the first place. Their passion really showed. Love them the more for having seen them.

It's good to see and hear Sparks back in action with a new album after a long hiatus.

A packed Shepherds Bush theatre were treated to many tracks from the new album as well as the old favourites.

The band were tight, the audience wild with enthusiasm for what can only be described as a memorable show and appropriate home coming to their adopted country.

Truly different.

My first Sparks show! With very high audience rapport, a super tight band and killer tunes, the brothers kept old and new fans enthralled for over ninety minutes. A highly memorable night, in the words of Russell himself before the encore.

Taylor Swift Eras tour angers southeast Asia as Singapore scores lucrative six-night residency

Taylor Swift’s ongoing Eras concerts have sparked a diplomatic row after Singapore guaranteed a lucrative six-night residency – at the expense of its disgruntled neighbours.

The deal, thought to be worth around £14m has led to a backlash among the city-state’s neighbours due to an exclusivity clause negotiated by prime minister Lee Hsien Loong, which prevents her from performing anywhere else in southeast Asia .

The popstar is playing six shows in Singapore from 2 to 9 March, under a deal that has been branded “unfriendly” by critics in Thailand and the Philippines, who complain that they are being deprived of the tourist boom brought by Swift’s tour.

Last month, Filipino lawmaker Joey Salceda said the deal, for which Swift is reportedly being paid an incentive worth £2.3m per show, “isn’t what good neighbours do”.

Speaking from the Australian city of Melbourne, where he is attending an Asean leaders’ summit, Lee confirmed that Swift was provided with “certain incentives” from a government fund established to rebuild Singapore’s tourist industry after the Covid pandemic.

Chinese fans of Taylor Swift arrive in Singapore for the first of her sold-out shows in the city-state

While he declined to say how much the deal was worth, Lee said he didn’t regard it as unfriendly towards his neighbours.

“It has turned out to be a very successful arrangement. I don’t see that as being unfriendly,“ he said, suggesting a neighbouring country might have done the same had they got there first.

“Sometimes one country makes a deal, sometimes another country does. I don’t explicitly say ‘you will come here only on condition that you’ll not go to other places,’” he added.

He also suggested that Australia might have made similar “mutually acceptable, sensible arrangements” with Swift when she performed in Sydney and Melbourne ahead of her Singapore shows.

“If that’s what’s needed to be done to get an outcome which is mutually beneficial and which, from Singapore’s point of view, serves not just to grow the economy but also to bring in visitors and goodwill from all over the region, I don’t see why not,” he said.

“If we had not made such an arrangement, would she have come to someplace else in southeast Asia or more places in southeast Asia? Maybe, maybe not. These are things that she will decide.”

The Independent has contacted Swift’s representatives for comment.

The “Anti-Hero” singer is currently preparing to release her latest album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, which she announced upon winning her 13th Grammy Award at the 2024 ceremony in February . It is due for release on 19 April.

Her Eras tour has made headlines around the world for its impact on local economies, with cities experiencing booms in tourism and hospitality around each of her stops.

Last year, Forbes reported that she had achieved billionaire status , in part thanks to the Eras tour along with her “Taylor’s Version” re-recorded albums and her box office smash concert film.

The publication describes Swift’s brand as “essentially a multinational conglomerate with the world’s most devoted customer base”.

It was also noted that Swift is one of the few performers to achieve billionaire status on music and performance alone.

She embarks on the longawaited European leg of her Eras tour in May , starting in Paris, with her UK shows taking place this June.

Penn state wins the 2024 big ten championships.

Dominant. That’s the only way to describe the Penn State wrestling team’s performance this weekend at the 2024 Big Ten championships. The Nittany Lions put seven of their ten athletes in the conference finals and won five of those bouts. They outscored second place Michigan by over 40 points and likely qualified all ten wrestlers for the NCAA tournament (pending an at-large bid decision for three-time NCAA Carter Starocci who injury defaulted out). This is a program with historic talent, and that talent was on full display in College Park.

Davis kicked things for Penn State off with a strong victory in the 125-pound finals match against McKee in which he scored three back points, a takedown, an escape and a riding time point. Levi Haines, Mitchell Mesenbrink, Aaron Brooks and Greg Kerkvliet followed with titles of their own at 157, 165, 197 and 285 pounds. Nittany Lion All-Americans Beau Bartlett and Aaron Nagao picked up a silver and bronze respectively while true freshman Tyler Kasak secured bronze at 149 pounds.

FINAL RESULTS: Brackets | Team Score

Rutgers, Ohio State, Nebraska, Illinois and Minnesota will also leave College Park with conference champions. Dylan Shawver became the first Scarlet Knight Big Ten champ since Nick Suriano and Anthony Ashnault in 2019 when he beat Michigan’s Dylan Ragusin at 133 pounds while Jesse Mendez gave the Bucks a champ at 141 pounds after a 4-1 win over Penn State’s Beau Bartlett.

At 149 pounds, Ridge Lovett survived a wild one against 2022 Big Ten champion Austin Gomez, and, at 174 pounds, Edmond Ruth won by injury default over Michigan’s Shane Griffith. Minnesota’s Isaiah Salazar at 184 pounds was the last non-Penn State Big Ten champ of the night as he topped new Nittany Lion Bernie Truax in sudden victory.

The best of the Big Ten will now prepare to compete for national titles in Kansas City from March 21-24.

That Championship moment! #GopherTough pic.twitter.com/Ovmnglu3Ox — Minnesota Wrestling (@GopherWrestling) March 10, 2024

THIRD PERIOD: Salazar starts down to begin the third. He escapes, and we're all tied up 1-1. Truax looking for a go-behind, but Salazar holds him off. One minute to go. Salazar goes in on a leg. We're scrambling! Ten seconds. Let's go to overtime!

Four back points puts the Nittany Lion in control. He leads 13-11. Riding time is no longer a factor for Hamiti. Mesenbrink is looking for a turn. Mitchell Mesenbrink is relentless. He's a Big Ten champion!

MITCHELL MESENBRINK B1G CHAMPION! Mesenbrink a 13-11 win over Hamiti! #PSUwr pic.twitter.com/j3KZEpLLyL — Penn State WRESTLING (@pennstateWREST) March 10, 2024

SECOND PERIOD : Mesenbrink starts the second period with an escape. Shot from Mesenbrink! Takedown Hamiti! The 2023 champ leads Mesenbrink 9-2. Hamiti is a danger on top, and he's pushed riding time up over a minute. He's in bonus territory now with thirty seconds to go in the second period. Escape Mesenbrink. Shot Mesenbrink — takedown! Mesenbrink keeps himself in this match in the final seconds of the period.

FIRST PERIOD: Shot from Hamiti. Nothing. Shot from Mesenbrink. We're scrambling with the first minute. Stalemate. Wow. What an action-packed 30 seconds. Shot and takedown from Hamiti! Mesenbrink escapes. Let's keep the attacks rolling! Shot from Mesenbrink. Hamiti turns Mesenbrink's momentum into a good position. Stalemate. One minute to go. Nearly a takedown from Mesenbrink, but Hamiti scrambles out. No takedown points for the Nittany Lion yet. Great flexibility from the Badger to ward off Mesenrbrink. Takedown Hamiti! THIRD PERIOD: Haines chooses down to begin the third period, and he too escapes almost immediately. This one is tied 1-1. One minute to go. Shot from Lewan. Haines is warned for stalling. A second stall call against either athlete could determine the match. Thirty seconds to go. Shot from Lewan. Haines responds. No points yet. Ten seconds. Lewan has wrestled so tough against the 2023 NCAA finalist.

SECOND PERIOD: Will Lewan chooses down to start the second period. He's out in ten seconds. Lewan is warned for stalling. One minute to go in the second period. Shot from Haines at the buzzer, but he can't convert in time. Lewan's escape is the only point of the period.

FIRST PERIOD : Levi Haines won this weight last year at this tournament. We'll see what he's got tonight against the tough and stingy Will Lewan. Scoreless first period.

149 pounds: No. 1 Ridge Lovett survives No. 2 Austin Gomez 5-4

THIRD PERIOD : Lovett chooses down to start the third period. Gomez goes upper body, but no points. Back to neutral. Lovett leads 5-3.

149 | What a move by @RidgeLovett 😤 Lots of action in this one. Ridge up 5-3 to start P3. pic.twitter.com/6zOEneMA36 — Nebraska Wrestling (@HuskerWrestling) March 10, 2024

One minute to go. Shot from Gomez. Nothing. Lovett looks for a go-behind, but Gomez works out. Lovett is hit for stalling. Lovett still leads 5-4. Shot from Gomez on the edge. He brings Lovett back on the mat, but Lovett holds on. He's a Big Ten champion for the first time in his career!

SECOND PERIOD : An escape from Lovett extends his lead to three points. Ninety seconds to go. Lovett's wrist looks like it's taped up, but, if he has any kind of injury, he isn't showing it. This match has been all force from both guys. Thirty seconds. Gomez goes in for a shot in short time, but Lovett holds tough.

FIRST PERIOD: These are two guys who know how to score. Time to sit back and enjoy the show. Gomez has Lovett's ankle in the air and nearly scores the takedown, but Lovett scrambles out. Impressive defense from the Husker. Takedown Gomez. He leads 3-1 following an escape from Lovett. Throw from Lovett, and that's three points for the Husker. He takes the lead 4-3 and ends the period on top.

141 pounds: No. 2 Jesse Mendez upsets No. 1 Beau Bartlett 4-1

THIRD PERIOD: Bartlett starts down to begin the third period. Mendez has the 1-0 lead with his escape the lone point of the match. Bartlett escapes in less than 15 seconds. We're tied up 1-1. This feels familiar. Mendez in on a shot, Bartlett defends. Ten seconds. Shot Mendez! He leads 4-1 with seven seconds remaining. Jesse Mendez is a Big Ten Champion!

JESSE MENDEZ IS A BIG TEN CHAMPION pic.twitter.com/l1FfY3EvUp — Ohio State Wrestling (@wrestlingbucks) March 10, 2024

SECOND PERIOD : Mendez chooses down to start the second period. It's the Buckeye who has been driving most of the action in this match so far. Bartlett is riding Mendez tough. The Nittany Lion walks back to the center calmly after his mat return sent Mendez out of bounds. These are two athletes unbothered by the spotlight and the pressure. Mendez sneaks out within 35 seconds. Back to neutral. Ten seconds.

FIRST PERIOD: The last time these two athletes wrestled, Bartlett took the win in sudden victory. Time to run back this great rivalry bout.

Shot from Mendez! Bartlett pushes him away. Thirty seconds left. Another shot from Mendez on the edge as time runs out.

133 pounds: No. 2 Dylan Shawver techs No. 1 Dylan Ragusin 28-3

THIRD PERIOD: Shawver chooses down to start the third period. He escapes within 15 seconds. Shot from Shawver. Ragusin is looking to transition into some offense of his own now, but it's Shawver with ANOTHER takedown. He leads the No. 1 seed by 10 points. Shawver pushes his riding time up over a minute, just before Ragusin escapes. Shawver has Ragusin on his back! He's looking for the fall. But he'll settle for the tech fall. Shawver wins 23-8.

133 | BOOM! Dylan Shawver is a Big Ten Champion after his 23-8 tech fall over (1) Dylan Ragusin (UM)! #RelentlessPursuit | #GoRU pic.twitter.com/vezRNMRfbl — Rutgers Wrestling (@RUWrestling) March 10, 2024

SECOND PERIOD : Ragusin chooses down to start the second period. He escapes quickly. Shawver wants that fireman's carry. He's looked for it at least three times already in this match, but Ragusin defended each time. One minute to go in the period. Shot from Ragusin as the athletes go out of bounds. There's no shortage of action in this match. Ragusin nearly picked up the go-behind on Shawver's shot, but now it's Shawver with the points after a huge throw on the edge. He leads 10-2. Ragusin rolls out for an escape but picks up the reversal instead to add two points to his total. He'll trail 10-4 going into the third.

FIRST PERIOD: Woah. Fireworks immediately. Shawver picks up a quick takedown and looks for backpoints. Ragusin scrambles his way out of the dangerous position, and he's back to his feet. Shawver with another shot on the edge, but Ragusin shifts himself into a better position before the athletes go out of bounds. Stalemate. Quick shot from Shawver again, but no additional points. He'll lead 3-1 into the second period.

125 pounds: No. 6 Braeden Davis takes down No. 4 Patrick McKee

THIRD PERIOD: Davis elects to start the third period on bottom. McKee, though, is also strong on top, but Davis is out fast. That quick escape was key for the Nittany Lion as he still holds on to his riding time advantage (1:09) and leads 4-1. Shot from Davis! McKee stays steady, waiting for the stalemate. Forty-five seconds. Thirty seconds. McKee looks for an inside trip, and Davis nearly comes out on top. Takedown Davis! The final shot ices it, and Davis takes the win 8-1. Braeden Davis is a true freshman Big Ten champion!

BRAEDEN DAVIS BIG TEN CHAMPION 8-1 OVER McKEE! #PSUwr pic.twitter.com/d2QihydNxP — Penn State WRESTLING (@pennstateWREST) March 10, 2024

SECOND PERIOD: McKee chooses down without hesitation to start the second period. Davis is riding tough, refusing to give an inch. Davis has McKee on his back, and he earns three near fall points in the process. Riding time is now over a minute, and Davis continues to work on top. McKee escapes. Thirty seconds left in the period. Davis will end the period with a 3-1 lead and 1:19 of riding time.

FIRST PERIOD: This is a fun matchup between a senior in McKee and a freshman in Davis. Davis beat a grad student in his last match though, so he's shown his poise against more experienced college wrestlers already this tournament. McKee is rocking the championship gold singlet of Minnesota (along with a notably thick knee brace), while Davis is in the classic Penn State Blue and White singlet.

Both athletes have been quick on their feet so far, moving around the mat, but neither McKee nor Davis have taken any notable shots through the first three minutes.

Consolation semifinals

285 pounds: No. 4 Yaraslau Slavikouski (Rutgers) shuts out No. 7 Bradley Hill (Iowa), 5-0

Taylor Swift’s deal with Singapore sparks fight with Philippines over Southeast Asia concerts

They’ve got “Bad Blood” between them now.

A Philippine lawmaker has lashed out at Singapore over an alleged exclusivity deal it brokered with Taylor Swift to prevent the 34-year-old pop star from taking her coveted “Eras Tour” to other countries in Southeast Asia.

As the “Bad Blood” hit-maker geared up to headline six sold-out shows in Singapore starting this past Saturday, Phillippines Rep. Joey Salceda asked his country’s Department of Foreign Affairs to formally protest her camp’s reported arrangement with Singapore.

“This isn’t what good neighbors do,” Salceda said in a statement, according to the Straights Times.

Reports of an exclusivity deal came after Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said concert promoter Anschutz Entertainment Group told him the Singapore government offered Swift’s camp up to $3 million for each concert there — as long as she didn’t tour other Southeast Asia countries.

“Some $3 million in grants were allegedly given by the Singapore government to AEG to host the concert in Singapore. The catch was that they do not host it elsewhere in the region. If true, [this] isn’t what good neighbors do,” Salceda said, according to GMA Network .

Salceda noted that while the concerts boost Singapore’s economy, the purported deal comes “at the expense of neighboring countries, which could not attract their own foreign concert-goers and whose fans had to go to Singapore.”

He said the Philippines should not “just let things like these pass.”

Salceda said the country should “officially register” its opposition to Singapore’s reputed deal, which he says goes against the Association of Southeast Nations, a diplomatic group involving the 10 Southeast Asian nations.

cebu pacific air naming their flight from the philippines going to singapore after taylor swift’s album “1989” and having taylor sheesh announce the boarding call, oh taylor’s impact. 🤯🤩 pic.twitter.com/MDiyMWfT3u

“Our countries are good friends. That’s why actions like that hurt,” Salceda said.

The lawmaker later conceded that the Philippines should have been more aggressive in pursuing concert-related ventures to drive its own economic activity.

Officials in Singapore confirmed the concerts had the support of authorities but stopped short of sharing how much money may be being paid to the 34-year-old pop star.

Switft’s “Eras Tour” was the first to cross the $1 billion mark last year, bringing in a stunning $1.04 billion with 4.35 million tickets sold across 60 tour dates . The singer has since added additional dates, with more than 150 shows scheduled to last through the end of the year.

Swift’s concerts cause mini-economic booms wherever they go, driving up hotel bookings in cities across the globe ahead of each sold-out show.

More than 300,000 tickets have been sold for the singer’s stint in Singapore, which runs through March 9.
