  • Sky Sports to remain the home of the DP World Tour until 2024
  • Sky Sports to remain the home of the Ryder Cup until 2025

Today the DP World Tour and Sky Sports have announced an extension to their broadcast partnership in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with Sky Sports remaining the home of the DP World Tour until 2024 and the Ryder Cup until 2025.

The deal will see all DP World Tour events broadcast live exclusively across Sky’s platforms, including both its linear and on demand services. That means Sky Sports customers will be able to enjoy a minimum of 32 live events each season across the Tour’s global tournament schedule.

Fans will also be able to enjoy new featured group coverage for the Tour’s flagship Rolex Series events, and the Tour will also be working closely with Sky’s VIP loyalty programme to offer access to a selection of UK and ROI tournaments. Sky Sports customers will also enjoy a range of golf programming across both linear and digital platforms, including masterclass sessions with former DP World Tour winners, behind the scenes access ahead of the world's biggest events, and much more.

The deal will also see Sky Sports broadcast both the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, and the 2025 Ryder Cup in New York, to its UK and Ireland customers on a dedicated Sky Sports Ryder Cup channel.

This agreement extends an already successful partnership between the Tour and Sky Sports that stretches back almost 30 years. Sky Sports’ award-winning golf analysis is provided by some of the biggest names in golf, including former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, Butch Harmon, Laura Davies and Nick Dougherty.

Speaking about the extended partnership Managing Director of Sky Sports, Jonathan Licht said; “As we kickstart a record-breaking year of golf on Sky, we are thrilled to be extending our long-term partnership with the DP World Tour, further cementing Sky Sports as the home of golf in the UK and Ireland.

“This year our customers can enjoy the DP World Tour alongside our live coverage of all four men's majors, all five women's majors, the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour, all whilst they countdown the days to next year’s Ryder Cup in Rome, live exclusively on Sky Sports.”  Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour group, added: “Sky Sports have been a trusted partner to our Tour as we continue to grow and transform, ensuring that fans of our sport in the UK and Ireland remain as close to the action as possible – with comprehensive live coverage of our events, world class analysis, and behind the scenes features. We’re delighted that our partnership will continue until the end of the 2024 season for the DP World Tour and will continue until 2025 for the Ryder Cup. 10 Things You Didn't Know About The DP World Tour

Here are 10 things you may not be familiar with about the Europe-based circuit

  • Sign up to Golf Monthly Newsletter Newsletter

The DP World Tour flag

The DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) is one of the most well-regarded and established circuits in the game, with some of the best-known tournaments around, including the Dubai Desert Classic and its flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship.

While it doesn't boast the same status as the US-based PGA Tour, it still forms an integral part of the game's professional landscape. Here are some facts about the Tour that you may not be familiar with.

1. The roots of the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) go back to 1972, when the Professional Golfers' Association, which was established 71 years earlier to serve the interests of golfers in Great Britain and Ireland, created it.

2. It began with 20 tournaments and the season ran from April to October. The action took place in nine countries – Spain, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Switzerland, West Germany, the Netherlands and Italy.

3. The inaugural European Tour event was the Spanish Open, which was held at Golf Club de Pals in Girona. Fittingly, two Spaniards battled it out for the title in a playoff, with Antonio Garrido emerging the winner over Valentin Barrios. The purse for the tournament was £10,000.

4. Nowadays, DP World Tour events take place around the world, but it was strictly a Europe-only affair for the first decade of its existence. That changed in 1982 with the first tournament to be played outside the continent – the Tunisian Open in Africa. Garrido once again claimed the title after beating compatriot Manuel Calero in a playoff.

5. The DP World Tour’s headquarters are at Wentworth in Surrey, England. From there, the PGA European Tour, to give it its legal title, also runs the European Senior Tour (currently the Legends Tour), the developmental Challenge Tour and G4D Tour. It is also the lead partner in Ryder Cup Europe.

6. Some of the highest-profile DP World Tour events take place in Asia, but it wasn’t until 1989 that the continent hosted one of its events with the inaugural Dubai Desert Classic (then called the Karl Litten Desert Classic). The tournament was won by Mark James, who beat Peter O’Malley by four shots to claim the $75,000 first prize.

7. In 2015, including Majors and World Golf Championships, more of the DP World Tour’s tournaments were held outside Europe than within it for the first time.

8. In 1998, The Masters, PGA Championship and US Open were added to the schedule, meaning prize money earned by players in the Majors could be added to the European Tour’s Order of Merit, which affected the end-of-season rankings. Not only that, but with a minimum requirement of 11 appearances needed for players to retain membership of the Tour, the addition of the Majors – along with three World Golf Championships in 1990 – made it easier for players to reach that target.

9. Seve Ballesteros holds the record for the highest number of DP World Tour wins with 50, eight more than Bernhard Langer in second place. Ballesteros’ first win on the Tour came in the 1976 Dutch Open, with the last in his homeland at the 1995 Spanish Open.

Seve Ballesteros holds the record for most European Tour wins, with the last of 50 coming in the 1995 Spanish Open

10. The total prize money for the inaugural season of the Tour (excluding Majors) was £290,500. Adjusted for inflation, that would be £3.3m today (around $4m). In 2024, the prize fund will be $148.5m (approximately £121.5m).

LIV Golf star Paul Casey to make DP World Tour comeback with Porsche loophole

Paul Casey has not played on the DP World Tour for more than two years but the former Ryder Cup star will make his comeback in a rare appearance away from LIV Golf

Paul Casey will make his DP World Tour return next week

  • 15:02, 12 Mar 2024

Paul Casey will play on the DP World Tour for the first time this month since defecting to LIV Golf in 2022.

The former Ryder Cup star has not played on the Wentworth-based circuit since the Dubai Desert Classic in January 2022, joining the Saudi Arabia-funded breakaway tour soon after. Casey resigned his DP World Tour membership in 2023 after he was punished for joining LIV, but he will make his first appearance on the tour next week.

Casey will tee it up at the Porsche Singapore Classic on March 21 after receiving a sponsor exemption. Casey has played just twice outside of his appearances on LIV Golf in the past two years, with both appearances coming on the Asian Tour.

The event is not part of the Open Qualifying Series, meaning he cannot play his way into the field at Royal Troon with a strong performance Laguna National Golf Resort Club. But it is a rare opportunity for the former world number three to earn Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points.

Golf news LIVE: The Players tee times and preview as Rory McIlroy searches for answers

LIV events are not sanctioned by the OWGR and Casey has plummeted to 729 in the world after turning his back on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour two years ago. The 46-year-old has been invited to play in the event due to his relationship with Porsche, with Casey serving as a brand ambassador for the German sportscar manufacturer since 2020, with the company's logo appearing on his bag.

Casey will be joined in the field by world number 37 Shane Lowry, who will jet off to Singapore after playing in The Players at TPC Sawgrass this weekend. Former LIV Golf member Bernd Wiesberger will also tee it up at Laguna National after rejoining the DP World Tour this season, with LIV forking out to clear the fines he accrued for playing on the breakaway tour.

For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US .

The other players to receive a sponsor's invite to the event are Taichi Kho of Hong Kong and Thailand's Amarin Kraivixien and Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

LIV Golf is in the midst of its first break of the season, with a three-week gap until the action resumes in Miami on April 5. Casey has made a solid start to the season, finishing 11th in the season opener in Mayakoba before tying for fifth in Las Vegas. He also finished tied for second in LIV Golf Hong Kong on Sunday, losing out to Abraham Ancer in a playoff.

It remains to be seen if Casey will try to earn a place in The Open Championship through the qualifying tournaments this summer. But he does have slim hopes of playing in the PGA Championship at Valhalla in May.

He received a special invitation to play in 2023 after an injury ruled him out of the previous year after a strong performance in 2021 earned him a place in the field. But Casey was unable to play at Oak Hill last year, again due to injury, and he will be hopeful that the invitation is offered once again by PGA of America chairman Seth Waugh.

2024 Porsche Singapore Classic: Prize Money Breakdown and Winner’s Payout

D P World Tour’s Asian Swing kicked off in Singapore this week. The Porsche Singapore Classic is the first of the five stops in Asia for the European Tour. The purse size has increased since the German car manufacturer Porsche became the title sponsor of the event this year. The $425,000 winner’s payout is also topped with Race to Dubai ranking points, DPWT exemptions, and other perks.

The winner will receive around 14.5 OWGR points. In addition, the points received here will also count towards the Asian Swing rankings. The new DP World Tour structure will crown the Asian Swing champion after the Volvo China Open. For the Asian Swing, the top point-earner will receive an extra $200,000 from the $1M reserved for Swing champions.

Purse breakdown of the 2024 Porsche Singapore Classic

The winner is set to pocket 17% of the total purse size, a standard system across all DP World Tour events. Ockie Strydom bagged $340,000 for the top spot in 2023. The $2.5 million total purse is also a $500,000 bump from last year.  Here is the full purse size breakdown this year.

A packed leaderboard for the Sunday final round

Andy Sullivan of England is on the hunt but is chased by four players who are one shot behind him including Shane Lowry and Paul Casey . Shane Lowry is looking for his maiden title at the Porsche Singapore Classic, after coming extremely close at the Arnold Palmer Invitational (3), and the Cognizant Classic (T4). For Lowry, the problem has become keeping the momentum in the final rounds, which the Irishman desperately wants to change.

Paul Casey, in his first DP World Tour appearance since the 2022 Dubai Desert Classic, is also tied with Lowry for the second spot as of the time the report went to publication. Casey is playing at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club on a sponsor exemption. The LIV Golf Pro has been associated with Porsche since the 2020 US Open. The 46-year-old, who wanted to become a racing driver as a teenager, has sported the Porsche logo on his bag since then.

Notably, five LIV Golfers have won DP World Tour events this season. Dean Burmester emerged victorious during the JoBurg Open and the Investec South African Open Championship. His Stinger GC teammate, Louis Oosthuizen , repeated the feat in back-to-back weeks in December, first in the Alfred Dunhill Championship and then in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. Casey has plenty of inspiration on Sunday.

On the other hand, Matthieu Pavon made his DP World Tour return since earning his way to the PGA Tour last season. The Frenchman is currently tied for the 13th spot on the leaderboard in the Porsche Singapore Classic.

John Catlin, Asian Tour, International Series Macau

A day after shooting an incredible 59 in Macau, John Catlin had more reason to celebrate on Sunday.

He defeated LIV Golf’s David Puig in a two hole playoff at the International Series Macau on the Asian Tour. The win marks his first professional victory since April 2021, when he triumphed at the Austrian Golf Open on the DP World Tour .

“Still hasn’t quite sunk in, and that was one heck of a battle,” Catlin said, per the Asian Tour.

“I mean, if you had told me I would finish 23-under for the tournament, and I still have to be in a playoff, I’d be like, you’re kidding. But I mean, it was special all week, I fought really hard. You know, I was battling all week long and to come out on top is really, really special.”

Catlin received a special invite into the field this week, as he has struggled mightily over the past couple of years. He lost his DP World Tour card after a disappointing 2023, and has only played in three events thus far in 2024.

John Catlin, Asian Tour, International Series Macau

But none of these issues reared their ugly head Macau. Instead, Catlin played the way he knows he is capable of, shooting a 5-under 65 Sunday to keep pace with Puig, who carded an electrifying 10-under 60.

Playing four groups in front of Catlin, Puig made four birdies on the front and dropped a shot at the par-4 5th, thus going out with a 3-under 31.

He was at 16-under then, and in need of making a move.

That he did.

The Spaniard made two birdies and an eagle over his first four holes on the back-nine, and then closed with three birdies over his final four holes. In all, it totaled to a 7-under 29, as Puig then had to wait in the clubhouse at 23-under.

Meanwhile, Catlin made the turn with a four-shot lead in hand. But he meandered somewhat on the back-nine, making only two birdies and a bogey to shoot a 1-under 35 coming in.

But Catlin still had a chance to end the tournament in regulation. At the par-5 18th, Catlin faced a six-footer for birdie and a return to the winner’s circle. He missed, thus settling for par and forcing a playoff.

The two players went back to the tee on 18, as the sizable gallery in Macau followed them. Then, Puig tried going for the green in two, but found the bunker adjacent to the putting surface. He hit the flagstick with his third shot, as his ball stopped inches from the cup. As such, Puig made birdie.

Catlin then faced a six-footer for birdie, but unlike in regulation, the American drained it, thus extending the playoff.

Then, on the second playoff, Puig faced a similar putt, but missed. Catlin two-putted for birdie, earning his fifth career Asian Tour win.

“Yeah, good day, obviously the score says it right?” Puig said afterward.

“And I played good. Had a very good back nine and I’m happy that I got into the playoff and I had a chance. It has been a good week. I mean different course for sure but pretty fun. Also, you know, I’m pretty tired being the seventh week in a row, so I’m glad I finished on a good note and ready for what’s next.”

Puig, who is only 22-years-old and played at Arizona State, has traversed the world over the past few months in an attempt to try and earn Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points. He is currently ranked 132nd in the OWGR, while DataGolf lists him as the 99th ranked player.

Nevertheless, he did earn a spot in The Open Championship at Royal Troon in July, thanks to his play at the Malaysian Open in February. But he has yet to receive an invite—or a spot—in any of the other three majors.

LIV golfers face an uphill battle trying to qualify for major championships, because the OWGR does not award points to LIV events due to its structure and format. The majors use the OWGR to determine its fields.

Hence, numerous LIV players—such as Patrick Reed , Jason Kokrak, Carlos Ortiz, Pat Perez , and Lucas Herbert —teed it up in Macau this week.

Herbert finished in solo third at 21-under, while Reed came in fourth, finishing at 20-under for the week. Kokrak and Ortiz also had top 10 results.

But standing atop the leaderboard at the end was Catlin, who surely will get more playing opportunities in 2024 thanks to his exhilarating victory.

The UAE and the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) recently hosted the Clutch Pro Tour with two 54-hole events - the first at Al Hamra Golf Club, Ras Al Khaimah and the other at Al Zorah Golf Club, Ajman, both events offering a prizefund of £30,000.

Callan Barrow (Eng), from Lytham St Annes won week at Al Hamra and Jack Yule (Eng) won at Al Zorah Golf Club.

Both players won a first prize cheque of £5,000 – with Barrow claiming a spot in the Challenge Tour event at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club 18th – 21st April, 2024, and Yule winning an invite to the UAE Challenge on the Challenge Tour to be held at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, Thursday 25th – Sunday 28th April, 2024. Both Challenge Tour events have a prize fund of $300,000.

Barrow said, “I’ve had a good winter prepping, so to come out and get the job done against a strong field feels really good. I think my all round game was pretty good, like nothing was amazing, but nothing was really bad.’

“I played in the Abu Dhabi Challenge last year but very badly! Hopefully, I do better this year on a different course. At least I won’t have any bad memories playing there.”

Yule commented, ‘’It is the first time I have been in the UAE - I absolutely love it. I holed a lot of yardage with my putter – but also had a few three putts – but in the end it tends to even itself out. This win here at Al Zorah and the Challenge Tour opportunity sets up my season nicely.”

Dubai born Natalii Gupta won the leading female aggregate division for the two UAE 54-hole events. The 19 year-old amateur, plays off a +2 handicap and represents The Els Club, Dubai and gains four invites to Clutch Pro Tour events this 2024 season.

Robert Fiala of the EGF said, “It is great to have the Clutch Pro Tour here in the UAE for the first time. We are excited to see such events offering opportunities for both male and female golfers on our EGF calendar and we look forward to enhancing a close relationship for the good of UAE based players as well as international golfers.”

The UAE Clutch Pro Tour events are sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) and are a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) qualifier, supported by The R&A for the participating amateurs.

The Clutch Pro Tour is an official feeder Tour to the Challenge Tour and DP World Tour as well as an ‘open access’ pro golf tour for both men and women providing a genuine golf development platform.

The EGF received upto 20 invite spots for each of these two UAE events.

The Clutch Pro Tour is sponsored and supported by: Mizuno, Galvin Green, Underpin, Rapsodo Golf, Motocaddy, MCB Financial Services and Golf Carts Europe, and supported by Al Hamra Golf Club and Al Zorah Golf Club.
