it was long pending visit to Kaas Pathar and finally got chance last week. Bus started on time from Dadar and reached early morning to Kaas plateau via Satara. trip was planned well, and Sep is perfect time to visit and witness the blossom. We reached Kaas plateau early morning and stopped by first yellow flower carpet showered with tender sunlight presenting all diverse beauty dimensions. Then came the actual flower plateau around 10 Sqkm in area bifurcated by tar road and flushed with variety of colorful flowers shrubs and greenery. Our trip lead has explored the area in out and took us to "secret plateau" and it was out of word feeling being on top of world. altogether it was wonderful trip and must visit place. thanks to smit & parin

The Complete Guide to Visting Kaas Plateau – Kaas Pathar

General / by Mrunal & Jiten / 11 Comments

Last Updated on December 15, 2023 by Mrunal & Jiten

My son was watching a Bollywood movie where the hero and heroine were singing in Holland amongst a field of gorgeous flowers. My son was fascinated and wanted to visit there. But planning a sudden overseas trip was impossible.

1-Kaas Plateau Kaas Pathar

My wife, who is a native of the Konkan region of India, insisted that a gorgeous valley of flowers can be seen right here in our own country. She introduced me to Kaas Pathar.

I was surprised to know that I was not aware of this wonderful part of India until that day. I immediately went online to read more and plan for the journey. When I discussed with my cousin, he also expressed a desire to join us along with his family on the trip.

Therefore, on a Thursday night last September, seven people – three of us and four from my cousins’ family, set off to Kaas Plateau. We planned to cover the region and its nearby attractions on Friday and return the next day.

An Introduction to Kaas Plateau – Kaas Pathar

Kaas Plateau is a UNESCO World Heritage site and biodiversity hotspot.

It lies at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level amidst the Western Ghats, some 25 km away in the west direction from the city of Satara in the State of Maharashtra. This place is also 40kms away from another popular tourist town called Mahabaleshwar.

This area is home to an amazing valley of herbaceous flowers and waterfalls. The best time to visit here is June to October.

How to approach Kaas Plateau

We traveled the 280kms distance from Mumbai in great comfort and reached the base camp the next day morning. From there we took a bus to the Plateau.

If you want to take the aerial route, Pune is the nearest airport to Satara. There is a railway station at Satara for people traveling by Railways.  From Satara, you can reach Kaas by road. There are road routes to reach here via Shendre and Pachawad Kudal as well.

Please note! Visitors are restricted to 3000 per day here due to the fragile nature of the environment. If you plan to go on weekends or Public holidays then the online booking is compulsory. Parking is not allowed on Flower valley. Hence, you have to leave your car and take a government bus to the top of the plateau to view the Valley of flowers on top.

Kaas Plateau, A Valley of Flowers

The region gets its name from the Kasa tree whose leaves turn red when the tree matures.

I am still at a loss for words to describe what we saw once we reached the valley. There was a vibrant bed of flowers as far as the eye could see! Numerous flowering plants, not more than a meter in height, bloomed.

Locals related a story of how a meteor fell and made the soil of this land fertile. This is the reason they attribute to the blooming of numerous flowers across squares of kilometers on the plateau during the rainy season. This tale may be folklore, but this land and its soil certainly seemed blessed with abundance.

Our guide asserted this fact too. He explained the science behind this. The valley is filled with endemic plants because of the special soil and topography of nature. The Plateau has a very thin layer of soil formed from basalt. Hence, only herbaceous flowering plants such as Lichens, Orchids such as Karvy, carnivorous plants such as Drosera Indica, and several other wild flowering plants and grow here.

More than 850 varieties of flowering plants bloom during the months of June to September.  Their sight is a feast to eyes and a photographer’s delight. Another point to note is that there is a change in the color of the topography due to the emergence of new flowering plants every 15 days. You may also get to see rare Insects, birds, and snakes here.

The complete area is under Government’s jurisdiction due to its fragile nature. There are some tracks built around for visitors to walk through and view the flowers without trampling them.

My son and his second cousins, unburdened from schoolwork, enjoyed themselves thoroughly here.

Around Kaas Plateau  –

After an eyeful view of the flowers, we moved to the next destination.

There are many exciting areas to explore around the Kaas Plateau. Here are some places that we visited on our trip.

Kumudini Lake :

Our next stop was Kumudini Lake.

At the far end of the valley is Kumudini Lake. Beautiful lilies float over water that make you want to click photos away for your Instagram followers. Bhambawali Vajrai Waterfall :

The water from this perennial waterfall drops from a height of 260 meters. It is a delight to stand and stare at this waterfall that is located about 5 km away from the flower valley. It is also 2 km away from Bhambavli flower valley.

Ensure you go during the day and return by 5 p.m. Wild animals like snakes and big beasts roam around this area, so take care!

Ghatai Devrai, Bamnoli Boat Club :

Ghatai Devrai means the reserved forest area of Forest Goddess. It is three km away from the Kaas Plateau.

Bamnoli is a pretty village on the outskirts of Kaas plateau, just 12 km away. This place is famous for boating on Shiv Shankar Lake. Our ride on the lake waters was pleasant barring the noisy motor of the boat.

You can visit Tapola from here, which is the base part of Bamnoli. Locals also provide boats to visit places like Vasota Fort, Tapola, and Nageshwar temple.

Kaas Lake & Dak Bunglow :

One can also visit Kaas Lake from Bamnoli. Kaas Lake was constructed about a century ago to provide water to the residents of Satara .

Shri Kshetra Yewateshwar :

Five km away from Satara and at an altitude is 2000 feet is an ancient Shiva temple, Shri Kshetra Yewateshwar..  The architecture style of this temple is Heamadpanti. My wife was elated to reach this temple. She had visited it long back with her parents and today all those sweet memories were playing in her mind.

Vasota Fort :

This fort is more than 1100 feet from sea level.  It is on the banks of Shivsagar Lake. One needs to take permission of Forest Department to visit this fort.

This fort was built in the 12 th century. It was given the name Vyaghragad by Chatrapathi Shivaji. Though many parts of the fort were destroyed by British bombardment in 1818, one can now see parts of Shree Mahadev Mandir and Sadar in this fort. A sub-river of Koyana also emerges from this fort.

Ekiv Waterfall :

This Waterfall is located about 24 km from Satara in Jawali Taluka, very near to the Kaas Plateau. On the way to this waterfall, we saw small waterfalls, temples, and the Urmodi Dam. There was some rainfall enroute but the weather cleared once we reached the waterfall .

These waterfalls cascade in two stages – the first part falls for 400 feet and the next part about 200 feet. You can actually go very near the falls, but rocks are slippery and hence caution is advised.

Tapola Lake :

Tapola also goes by the name mini Kashmir of the west, attributed to its beautiful environs. It is the entry point for the Jungle Trek to Vasota Fort. On the lake, we enjoyed some water sports such as Kayaking, swimming, windsurfing, and Canoeing.

Some dos and dont’s while visiting Kaas Pathar and its nearby attractions

  • Carry water with you some Glucon D or ORS
  • Some dry fruits and snacks
  • Carry torch with batteries
  • Good pair of shoes for more grip on the hills
  • Keep ready umbrellas and raincoats with you as the tourist season coincides with the Monsoon in these parts. Avoid coming here when heavy rains are predicted.
  • First aid should be kept handy
  • Wear full-sleeved dress and full pants to avoid insect bite or prickles from thorns.
  • Avoid using plastics here,
  • Avoid swimming in the lake or waterfalls.
  • Be cautious of the harm to the area by means of plucking flowers, littering or wearing nature-harming footwear.

Our trip ended on a high note. The whole world is in a mini form right here in our Country. Whether be it snowy mountains or rocky hills or valleys of flowers. We only need to explore our beautiful and diverse country more to learn its magnificence. I am planning to visit this place again soon with other friends and relatives to show how diverse our country is. The whole trip reminded me of Toubkal National Park’s adventurous hiking, huge mountains, and valleys.

Kaas plateau – valley of flowers in satara.

Have you heard of Kaas Plateau or Kaas Pathar in Satara, Maharastra better known for its floral diversity during a short period during the monsoons? A must-visit for nature lovers.

Kaas Plateau or Kaas Pathar – Valley of Flowers

Colorful floral landscape during the monsoons at Kaas plateau, Satara, Maharashtra

Kaas Plateau is also called the Valley of Flowers – Maharashtra’s answer to Uttarakhand’s famous valley of flowers . Both valleys bloom around the same time during the late monsoon season in India i.e in the months of August and September.

Flower Persicaria Glabra at Kaas Plateau

While the latter requires you to trek through the tough Himalayan terrain after reaching the foothills, you can drive right up to the plateau that lies on one of the many hills of the city of Satara.

Aponogeton Satarensis at Kaas Plateau

Our first encounter on the way to the biodiversity area was with a 2-meter or so-long snake that just appeared on the road and took its time to cross the road. The next morning when we walked to the Kaas from MTDC resort where we were staying, we met many of them – peacefully loitering around. Unfortunately, many of them were dead, probably under the wheels of some vehicles but we spotted some mongooses too, so you never know.

Curcuma Caulina flowers

There are lots of butterflies to spot and enjoy. Due to spread-out vistas, capturing them needs a lot of patience.

Eranthemum Roseum at Kaas

Changing Colors of Flowers

Flower Cyanotis Tuberosa or Sahyadri dew grass at Kaas

We were told the color of the flowers at Kaas changes every week or so. In the third week of August, it was white flowers that dominated the plateau. Some of them carried hues of pink. There were a lot of micro flowers that needed an eagle eye and a sturdy camera to capture them.

Eriocaulon Heterolepis or Buttonhead Pipewort flower at Kaas

Kaas Lake had some blue flowers in its bed. This is also a place where you can get something to eat.

Flower Pinda Concanensis or Konkan Pinda at Kaas

UNESCO Heritage Value for Biodiversity?

Habenaria Heyneana or Toothbrush Orchid flower

Kaas being a part of the Western Ghats is a part of the UNESCO world heritage site . UNESCO has taken the initiative to barricade the main plateau so that flowers are protected and visitors remain at a safe distance.

Blooming landscape of Pinda Concanensis or Konkan Pinda white flowers

We were told that before this, tourists would play football in these fields. And destroy the small flowers and flower beds.

Hitchenia Caulina or Indian Arrowroot flower

Unfortunately, we could see enough cutouts in those barricades to allow people in. On the plateau, there were paths marked for the people to walk around.

Road passing through the barricaded heritage site

Take a walk around this beautiful natural low-lying lake walkable distance away on the road from atop the hill. Here, by the lakeside, you will find several miniature buds/flowers blooming. The vastness of the water body is also a refreshing change from the floral treats.

Celosia Argentea or Silver Cockscomb Flamingo feathers at Kaas

Tips for Kaas Plateau Visitors

  • The place tends to get cold and strong winds do blow so pack warm clothes accordingly.
  • There are lots of mosquitoes & flies, so cover yourself as much as possible. They tend to get into your eyes. Between the two of us, one person fanned away the mosquitoes while the other clicked pictures.

Impatiens Lawii or Laws Balsam

  • Wear closed shoes – snakes and other reptiles are in abundance during the season in this region.
  • Carry a magnifying glass. There are lots of micro flowers that are difficult to see with the naked eye.
  • MTDC has a small 5-room resort at the base of the plateau from where you can walk to the plateau of flowers. It is like a light trek that allows you to see the flowers on the side. And the valley views on both sides of the plateau.

Indian Arrowroot or Hitchenia Caulina in pink colors

  • In a book on the Kaas plateau, there are about 80 varieties of flowers mentioned. On close study, we found that most of these flowers are found around the country. So, be prepared for that.
  • En-masse flowering happens for a very small period. It seems that for those few days, the place is too crowded. For the rest of the season – you do see some flowers and flower beds. The week we were there, there were ample white flowers and other regular flowers. So, keep that expectation in mind.

Rotheca Serrata or Blue Fountain Bush flower at Kaas Plateau

  • We found a lot of similar flowers on other hills of Satara. Do venture out and look for flowers in the vicinity of Kaas too.

Local Transport and Floral Bloom Time

  • Public transport is very limited and unpredictable from and to Satara city. There are no local buses plying after 5 PM.

Neanotis Foetida or Foetid Starviolet

  • Check the bloom time before you head to the biodiversity heritage site. Though in general mid-Aug to September end is a good time.
  • The hills and mountains here are essentially made of laterite.
  • The laterite mountains can be very slippery during the monsoons. Take care and definitely do not walk too close to hill/mountain edges wherever they are too steep.
  • The region is also popular for a variety of butterflies, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fungi, mammals, waterfalls, caves & caverns, heritage temples, and fantastic landscapes. Obviously, if there are wildflowers the rest of the dependent nature too flourishes.
  • If you are looking for more places to explore there is the Koyna Dam about 80 KMs away.
  • The region is close to the western ghats in Maharastra, wildlife and wilderness enthusiasts can find a lot of reasons to explore this place. However, winter may be a better time for such explorations.
  • Don’t forget to try out local cuisines, they can be a bit spicy, but you can always ask them to moderate the spice level.
  • There are also a few heritage places to visit on the eastern side of the city’s outskirts.
  • If you can plan well, you can spend a few days exploring the beauty of nature, historical places like the forts, and heritage places at Satara.

Such a beautiful place and I have been longing to go there for long…

Gorgeous place this is. Did you visit this year? Is blooming late this time? I plan to head there this month.

Niranjan, We went last week. Yes, blooming is definitely late this year and some people said it may not even happen this year. Check before you head out.

Ohh,Okay. Have postponed it as of now. Let me wait till october. Thanks, Anuradha.

I went a few years ago but didn’t see as many flowers as you did, I think it was early. Still, it’s very beautiful there, there is a small kind of information place with photos of different varieties and also a waterfall…

Eva, we were told, we are early too…and few weeks later we would see many more flowers. So I do not know when is the best time to go really.

any emergency is available if someone bitten by snake / poisonous insects?

Do not think so Ravi ji. You would have to rush back to Satara and get help.

September end is best time to visit

Yes Ashish, September is the best time to visit Kaas Plateau.

Visit Bhambavli Vajrai Waterfall and Bhambavli Flower Valley nearby merely 5 km away from Kaas Flower Valley. Best place to visit. It is situated in Satara. for any details, contact Ravindra More @ 9821967717

Kaas Plateau is also known as Maharashtra's Valley of Flowers. Kaas Plateau and Sajjangad are situated on the high hills of Sahyadri in the Western Ghats. It is the best place to visit in the monsoon, from the mid of August to October. The whole plateau looks like a carpet in various shades. It's a unique place for flora researchers, nature lovers & photographers. Near about 175 various flower species were found at Kaas Plateau and one of the few found on earth only at Kaas Plateau. In June 2012, UNESCO has announced this location as a Biodiversity World Heritage Site. Recently this site is declared as a World Heritage site due to the excellent biodiversity present over here. Apart from numerous varieties of wildflowers (some of which are endemic to Kaas pathar only) this biodiversity site also shelters many insects, beautiful birds, amphibians, reptiles, and some major mammalian species. Visiting this heaven on earth is always an outstanding experience.

The plateau is home to 850 species of flowering plants, of which 624 have entered the Red Data Book, a state document that lists species whose existence is threatened. As many as 39 species are found only in the Kaas region. Some of the rare species found here include Dipcadi montanum, Ceropegia Vincaefolia, Pleocaulus Ritchiei, and Drosera Burmanii. This is also the reason why the place is popular with nature lovers, flora researchers, and also photographers. Tour is ideal for People who are interested in Macro Photography and Landscape Photography and Flora and Fauna and Wildflowers.

Satara – A road trip to the Maharashtra’s Valley of Flowers from Pune (INR 800)

Yellow flowers Kaas Plateau Satara

Which place strikes your mind when you hear about ‘ Valley of Flowers ‘? Valley of Flower National Park, Uttarakhand . Isn’t that so? What if I propose you another similar place if you are shy of time to visit Uttarakhand? ‘Kaas Plateau’ of Satara, Maharashtra which is surrounded by the Western Ghats of Sahyadri, will give you the experience of mini ‘Valley of Flowers’.

Flowers at Kaas Plateau Satara

Flowers at Kaas Plateau Satara

Being a runner, I had already heard about the city Satara on account of its well-known “ Satara Hill Half Marathon “. But is the city just about the renowned Kaas Plateau or the famous Satara Marathon? Trust me; there is considerably more to it.

Satara valley view

Beautiful views from Satara Hill

Satara is home to some of the most spectacular natural beauty spots. The city gets its name from the seven hills that lie close to Satara. Nature lovers are quick to take a one/two day trek to this place.

How to reach Satara from Mumbai and Pune

Satara is situated at a distance of around 250 kms from Mumbai and 110 kms from Pune . Satara is well connected with these huge urban cities by means of railroads and roadways.

From Mumbai, the great choices of trains are Mahalaxmi Express (8:23 PM), Tirunelveli Express (9:30 PM) and BGKT SBC Express (11:45) with the objective that you can reach Satara early morning. Otherwise, you can take a road transport bus from Mumbai to reach Satara, if you prefer bus journey over the rail. For train bookings visit IRCTC .

From Pune, you can catch early morning trains Maharashtra Express (4:50 AM), GKP LTT Express (4:50 AM) and All MYS Express (4:20 AM) to reach Satara. Additionally, regular buses ply between the two cities.

In the case of going from Pune, what I would recommend is to lease a motorbike as it just takes 2 hours to reach Satara and the street travel is outstandingly delightful.

How to Reach Satara from Mumbai and Pune

Getting around the Satara City

The public transport at Satara city is well managed. All the must-visit places can easily be visited either by taking a city bus or a state bus going the same route.

To reach Kaas plateau, you can get a bus from Satara bus stand . Ask for a bus going towards Bamnauli or Tetli; which leaves beginning from 6 AM. It will drop you at the Kaas Plateau at around 6:30 AM. There is one ST transport each hour. Transports are likewise accessible to reach Sajjangad Fort and Thosegar Waterfall from the bus transport stand.

My road trip from Pune to explore the beautiful Satara city

Only a couple of years back, UNESCO declared Kaas Plateau as World Natural Heritage Site . I needed to visit Kaas from the most recent couple of years and the photos about the place continued attracting me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it prior due to some of the other reason.

Kaas Plateau Satara beautiful flowers

So this year, I finally decided to visit Satara. I started from Pune at around 4:00 AM, in order to reach Kaas Plateau at the soonest with a specific end goal to beat the crowd. The road journey from Pune to Satara is astounding. The journey is through the Mumbai Bangalore National Highway 48 , so it’s fun riding a motorbike on the wide road.

Monkey at Satara Hill Half Marathon Route

Satara City in the background

It took about 2 ½ hours to reach Kaas Plateau. Furthermore, to my luckiness, there were only a couple of individuals out there at Kaas. I had planned only a day to explore Satara. This is how I traversed starting from Kaas and winding up at Sajjangad and covering almost all must see places in the Satara city.

places to visit in satara

Must see places on a one day trip to Satara

Kaas plateau.

This was the foremost reason for my visit to Satara. Kaas is home to around 1500 types of plants including 850 particular sorts of wildflowers, out of which 33 are risked. About 70% of the blooms of Maharashtra are just found here.

Pink Flowers Kaas Plateau Satara

The basic look of Kaas Plateau was not what I expected, possibly my planning to visit the place wasn’t right. Yet, as I wandered far into the fields, Kaas turned out to be substantially prettier with still gigantic no of blossoms that could be found in the region.

With Kaas Plateau been named as ‘UNESCO World Heritage Site’ tag, it has become very famous with individuals curious to visit the place. To secure the normal condition and guard the plants and flowers of Kaas, maximum 3000 visitors are permitted to visit Kaas Plateau every day.

Flowers ar Kaas Plateau Satara

You might be wondering what would be the best time to visit this nature’s gift. There are a few flowers which sprout once in a couple of years. So it is hard to tell a specific time. Hence, you need to research and plan when to visit the place.

But yes, Kaas is mostly stacked with wildflowers in the midst of the long extends of August and September. These flowers stay for around 2– 3 weeks relying on the storm and other climatic factors.

Vajrai Waterfall

Vajrai waterfall is accredited to be one amongst the tallest waterfalls in India. Located at a distance of 7 kms from Kaas Plateau and 27 kms from Satara, Vajrai Falls is a picturesque waterfall. This is a perennial waterfall but it is amazingly delightful in the monsoon season.

With a short trek, you can see the side view of the falls. However, to see the whole three layers of the falls, you would need to trek till the base.

Ajinkyatara Fort

Ajinkyatara, situated inside the city is a fortress on one of the seven mountains (Ajinkyatara mountain-3,300 feet high) encompassing the city of Satara. It generally takes around one hour to reach the top from the base town. From here one can value a splendid perspective of the entire Satara city.

If you wish to remain overnight, look out for Hanuman Temple. The temple can easily accommodate 15-20 individuals.

Best time to trek: July to February

Difficulty level: Easy

Sajjangad Fort

Sajjangad, which means Fort of good people, is the last resting spot of Guru Samarth Ramdas. It is possible to reach almost the top of the fort by motor vehicle. Once you reach the parking, a climb of around two hundred steps will lead you to the main gate of the fort.

Trustees of Sajjangad serve food (as Prasad) to the visitors for free. Also, there are many Bhaktiniwas where you can stay for free of cost.

Sajjangad fort offers a breathtaking view of adjacent villages, Urmodi Dam and Satara town. The views of sunset and sunrise are stunning. Going to and staying for a night at Sajjangad fortification was the best part of my Satara trip.

Thosegar Waterfall

Thoseghar Waterfalls is an incredible pictographic waterfall. It is about 12 kms from Sajjangad fort. The course from Sajjangad Fort to Thosegar waterfall was one the most scenic route I at any point navigated on.

Amazing road journey in Satara

Sajjangad to Thosagar Waterfall route

There is a series of waterfalls, one can see from the viewing platform. 2 major points are marked as Chota Dhabdhaba (little waterfall), and Bada Dhabdhaba (huge waterfall). This is an occasional waterfall which is just found in monsoon season. The encompassing area is exceptionally quiet and is covered with dense forest.

Thosegar Waterfall Satara

Entry into the waterfall is strictly prohibited.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit Thoseghar waterfall is July to October depending on the amount of rainfall in the region.

Chalkewadi Windmill Farm

Chalkewadi Windmill Farm is one of the biggest windmill farms in Asia. There are a huge number of windmills in the Chalkewadi region. The windmills supply power to Satara and neighboring places. Thoseghar waterfall can be seen from Chalkewadi.

Chalkewadi Windmill Farm Satara

Famous food spots in Satara

The few dishes that I would suggest to try if you are in Satara are:

  • Kabadi Pav Bhaji , Powai Naka
  • Patil Wada, near Satara main police station
  • Mahadev Misal Pav, near RTO office
  • Kandi Pedha from Ashok Modi Kandi Phedewale

Stay options in Satara

Tourism in Satara has grown a great deal in recent years and many stay alternatives have come up of late. However, what I would recommend is to spend a night at Sajjangad fortress. It is free of cost and I guarantee you of your stay at the fort to be a lifetime experience. Additionally, in the case that you are in the city area, you can opt to stay at Hanuman Temple at Ajinkyatara Fort. These options would help to make your trip a budget one.

Beautiful Thosegar Waterfall Satara

The entire town of Satara is from every angle a paradise in the rainy season. I wasn’t ready to leave this phenomenal town. Yet, as it is said ‘Each good thing must come to an end’, I left out this astonishing spot with plenty of memories. So who’s ready to visit this sublime place in the upcoming monsoon season?

It is going to be a 2 day jam-packed trip to Kaas Pathar and Koyna backwaters.

In the months of August and September, it is a biodiversity hotspot known for various types of seasonal wildflowers blooming and numerous species of endemic butterflies. The plateau is about 10 square kilometres in size and sits at an altitude of 1200 metres. Kaas has over 850 different flowering plant species. Orchids, shrubs like the Karvy, and carnivorous plants like Drosera Indica are among them. Kaas Pathar is a volcanic-rock plateau in the Satara district of Maharashtra that falls under the Western Ghats biosphere. The flora of kaas, i.e. all flowering plants are usually limited to a particular area only.

The fort was built by Bahmani kings who ruled from 1347 to 1527. It was later taken over by Chhatrapati Shivaji, Maharashtra’s famous warrior king, after falling under the Adil Shahi dynasty. He asked his guru, Samarth Ramdas, to establish an ashram within the fort, which was named Sajjangad, which means “fort of good men.”

Thoseghar waterfalls are part of a series of small and large picturesque waterfalls, some of which are only 15-30 metres tall, while the tallest is around 500 metres. The Thoseghar Waterfall is also known as the Ram and Lakshman Waterfalls, according to legend. As a result, the falls have been named after the Hindu gods Ram and Lakshman, as the name suggests.

Aside from the multicoloured views presented by the Kaas plateau, there are many activities worth exploring and performing. Check out our suggestions to make your holiday even more enjoyable:

  • You can park your cars on the side of the road and walk to the Kaas lake. Bring your own snacks, soft drinks, and a chatai, and you’ve got yourself a lakeside picnic! The more daring visitors can even go on a brisk Kaas Plateau trek in the area, imprinting the sights in mind and savouring the escape from the city in a whole new way. Before the lake, there are a few local restaurants that serve excellent zunka-bhakri, kanda bhaji, vada pav, and Maggi.
  • There is a mud road that leads to the Vajrai falls from the Kaas village. You can park your car in Kaas village and then take the trail to the end of the road, which obscures the valley and the might of three-stepped Vajrai Waterfall, which can be seen from afar. The valley panorama, the waterfall, and the low floating clouds are truly magical.
  • Bamnoli, a quaint settlement on the banks of Shivsagar Lake 15 kilometres from the Kaas Plateau, is widely known among trekkers as the starting point for Fort Vasota. In recent years, the village has started to promote a variety of boating services to tourists. You can take a boat ride on Shivsagar Lake, a boat ride to Tapola (also known as Mini Kashmir), or a boat ride to the Nageshwar Shiva temple.
  • The Satara Forest Department has worked hard to make tourists’ falls accessible, making the perfect location for an alternative Kaas plateau hike. The road from the entrance to the waterfall viewpoint is well-paved and crosses a few very beautiful woodlands. High st 200m. The path from the entrance to the waterfall view point is well paved with some very beautiful woodland views.

We will travel to Kaas Pathar via bus/traveler/car depending on the batch size.

Major Martin Manhoff spent more than two years in the Soviet Union in the early 1950s. He worked as an assistant to the military attache in the U.S. Embassy, located near Red Square.

Manhoff, being a gifted photographer, shot hundreds of scenes from everyday Soviet life – both in Moscow and in other regions of the USSR.
