Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift always keeps her promises. Just a couple weeks after unveiling a list of Latin American dates for her bestselling Eras Tour and pledging to schedule even more across the globe, the 33-year-old pop star has now announced a slew of international shows for the trek in 2024.

Here Are the Artists Opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour: Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers…

Trending on billboard.

Swift first confirmed that the Eras Tour would be going global earlier this month, when the “Anti-Hero” singer announced a Latin American leg of shows in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina also featuring support from Carpenter, whom Swift called a “sweet angel princess.” “Really thrilled to tell you this!!” the pop star wrote in a post to her social media accounts at the time. “Mexico, Argentina and Brazil: We are bringing The Eras Tour to you this year!” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

“LOTS more international dates to come soon, promise!” she added.

Ten days later, Swift added three additional shows to the Latin America leg, which kicks off in early August and picks up in November.

In addition to the new shows, Swifties also have a new album to look forward to in the coming weeks. As announced in May, Swift’s third studio album, Speak Now, will receive the “Taylor’s Version” treatment. Re-recordings of the set’s original tracks drop July 7, as do previously unreleased “Vault” tracks featuring Hayley Williams and Fall Out Boy.

Taylor Swift announces new Eras Tour dates in Europe, Australia and Asia

By C Mandler

June 20, 2023 / 6:55 PM EDT / CBS News

Pop superstar Taylor Swift  on Tuesday announced new concert dates in Asia, Australia and Europe for her Eras Tour , extending her performances through summer 2024.

While Swift's tour was originally just over 50 dates, it has now expanded to more than 100, according to Forbes , with the international leg of the Eras Tour kicking off in August this year in Mexico City — after which Swift will hang up her guitar until November before resuming her stadium shows.

EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️ I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates! Visit https://t.co/EYBevxhQzH for more information on your registrations, pre-sales and on-sales!! pic.twitter.com/G8zx8QUUAV — Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) June 20, 2023

Swift's Asia shows will begin next year with four nights in Japan's Tokyo Dome, starting on Feb. 7. Then she'll visit Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, as well as Singapore, before embarking on the tour's European leg in May with two shows in Paris. Unless Swift adds even more dates, she'll close out the Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium in London on August 17, 2024.

The Eras Tour got off to a slightly rocky start when pre-sales for tickets resulted in a lawsuit against Ticketmaster from furious fans , who alleged that the company violated antitrust laws that are designed to protect market competition.

The suit claims that Ticketmaster knowingly sent out pre-sale codes to more fans than it could accommodate. As a result, millions of fans were denied the opportunity to purchase tickets .

But with Swift playing to sold-out crowds either way, the tour is poised to make her a billionaire  and could end up being one of the highest-grossing tours of all time. According to  Forbes , the Eras Tour might earn Swift a cool $500 million on top of her existing estimated net worth of around $570 million.

Some cities are even seeing economic boosts in their local economies as a result of Swift's tour dates, with CBS Philadelphia reporting spikes in visitor center ticket sales and hotel reservations in Philly.

Swift's Pittsburgh shows from last weekend set a new record for the venue — her tour's second show in the city recorded an attendance of 73,117 at the Acrisure Stadium.

Taylor Swift Taps Paramore for European Eras Tour Run

Taylor Swift knows we need more — so she’s giving us just that. The singer has added 14 more shows to the European/U.K. leg of her Eras Tour , and announced that Paramore will provide support throughout the trek.

“Really can’t contain my excitement because… we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour,” Swift wrote on Twitter Wednesday, July 5. “And I get to travel the world doing shows with @paramore !! Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???”

Last month, Swift added dozens of shows to her Taylor Swift: The Eras stadium tour — bringing the total count of shows to a whooping 104 nights . She also extended her run at Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium with a sixth show scheduled for Aug. 7.

The new addition comes after the singer announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe earlier this week. (See below for the full tour dates.)

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

She also added more dates to her already-announced Latin America tour. After wrapping her U.S. dates in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, Swift will head to Mexico City for four straight shows at Foro Sol starting Aug. 24. She’ll then stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil in November.

Swift first announced the tour last October after she completely took over the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Midnights . The added dates, which follow the addition of eight new shows last week, were slotted in “due to unprecedented demand,” according to the singer’s camp.

“Good Morning America, it’s Taylor,” Swift said during the announcement. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

The tour began on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona and extends through Aug. 9, where the singer will wrap with a fifth night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Swift still has stops left in Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Santa Clara.

Across the tour, Swift is being supported in select cities by a combination of special guests including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

The Eras tour follows the cancelation of her planned 2020 Lover Fest tour, which was originally going to see her make stadium stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, along with Brazil, Denmark, Norway, and Poland. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future,” she wrote in 2021.

Swift last went the road in 2018 for her massive Reputation Stadium Tour , which saw Swift accompanied by the likes of Charli XCX and Camila Cabello across the United States, the United Kingdom, along with Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The tour was the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist that year.

Since her last tour, Swift has released four albums and two re-releases: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , Midnights , and Taylor’s Version editions of Fearless and Red with additional songs. In total, she’s dropped 90 tracks of new material, not including collaborations with the likes of Haim and Big Red Machine.

Fans have long wondered what music she’ll be performing on the road, with some theorizing that she’d host a residency in Las Vegas or a music festival where she’d perform different “eras” on different nights.

Along with packing her setlist with songs from Reputation in 2018, she surprised each city with an acoustic rendition of fan favorites like “Red,” “Holy Ground,” and “Wildest Dreams.” At select shows, she also brought out special guests. Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Hayley Kiyoko, and Maren Morris were among the artists to be brought out by Swift.

The stadium tour was accompanied by a concert film released on New Year’s Eve that year.

She previously took her 1989 album on the road for 85 dates, where she was accompanied by the likes of Mendes, James Bay, Vance Joy, and Haim. Before then was The Red Tour in 2013 and 2014, and her Speak Now World Tour from 2011 to 2012.

The "Lavender Haze" singer will perform in Europe, Asia and Australia in 2024

Taylor Swift is taking her Eras Tour across the pond and around the world!

On Tuesday, the "Anti Hero" singer unveiled a slew of international shows in 2024 in Europe, Asia and Australia.

After a break in December and January, the tour will kick back up again in Tokyo, Japan — and will follow with stops in major cities like Melbourne, Australia; Sydney, Australia; Singapore; Paris; Stockholm, Sweden; Lisbon, Portugal; Madrid, Spain; Lyon, France; Edinburgh, Scotland; Liverpool, United Kingdom; Cardiff, U.K.; London; Dublin; Amsterdam; Zürich; Milan; Gelsenkirchen, Germany; Hamburg, Germany; Munich; Warsaw and Vienna. She'll wrap the tour with two final shows in London in August 2024.

Sabrina Carpenter , who released her latest album,  Emails I Can't Send , last year, will join Swift on the road as her  opening act across all dates, including the previously announced Latin American shows .

"EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️ I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!" Swift, 33, wrote on Instagram.

The new dates come after Swift announced her first international leg in Latin America earlier this month. At the time, she teased that there were "LOTS more international dates to come soon, promise!"

For more information on ticket sales visit TaylorSwift.com/tour .

Swift is currently midway through the U.S. dates of her Eras Tour, and will continue this weekend with two shows in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She kicked things off in March and is set to wrap this leg in Los Angeles on Aug. 9.

Her shows have been  star-studded affairs , with everyone from  Miles Teller ,  Drew Barrymore ,  Reese Witherspoon  and  Paul Rudd  stepping out to catch her three-hour-long sets.

Swift is gearing up for the July 7 release of  Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , which will include six brand-new songs from the vault.

Earlier this month, a report from Fortune predicted that the Eras tour could potentially  generate $4.6 billion for local economies  throughout the U.S. based on how much ticket holders are spending to attend each show.

Meanwhile, stars like Flavor Flav revealed that they planned to catch the Eras Tour twice .

"Before I met Taylor Swift, I’ve always been a big fan of her music anyway, though," Flav told TMZ of their first encounter at the  iHeartRadio Awards in March .

"Just like I'm a big fan of  Christina Aguilera , or  Gwen Stefani , or I love me some  Miley Cyrus . You know what I'm sayin'? You’ll find me at their concerts, too. And a lot of people thought it was kind of weird seeing me at a Taylor Swift concert, I guess because of my age... But, you know, when it comes down to music, it has no age. Music don't have no age."

‘Please come’: Taylor Swift fans in south-east Asia hope for tour date

With Singapore the only stop announced, the star’s huge followings in the Philippines and Thailand are left to rue their lack of suitable infrastructure

O n social media, fans are calling it the “great war”. Tips are being shared on how best to prepare. Online support groups are sharing experiences. Relatives and friends have been enlisted to assist in the struggle.

The prospect of staring for hours at a screen in the hope of securing a Taylor Swift tour ticket is widely known by now, but never more so than across south-east Asia, where just one tour stop, Singapore, has been included on the star’s schedule.

Fans began queueing outside post offices in Singapore on Wednesday, hoping to secure tickets on Friday, reported the Straits Times , but elsewhere in the region, fans have blamed unstable politics and poor infrastructure as some of the reasons why their home countries are missing from the star’s schedule.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer wrote in a recent editorial that complaints from fans had “ended up highlighting the sad state of Philippine infrastructure”.

The country is home to a large Swift fanbase. Quezon City in Metro Manila was once listed by Spotify as being home to the fifth-biggest number of Swift’s listeners in a ranking of global cities.

Prior to the announcement of the tour dates, the fan group Swifties Philippines ran a hashtag campaign #WeWantErasTourPhillipines to try to draw Swift to the country, even organising an event by drag performer Taylor Sheesh, who recreated the Eras tour in a packed mall in Quezon City. Taylor Sheesh’s lip-sync performance, complete with costume changes, went viral on social media.

Charlyn Suizo, 30, a software engineer from Laguna, and an admin for the Swifties Philippines group, hoped it would send a message to Swift. “We organised several campaigns to knock on Taylor Swift’s door to really [ask her to] listen to us and invite her to come here,” she says.

Suizo was saddened that no tour dates were announced for Manila, but adds that she thinks infrastructure is a problem. “We don’t have a big stadium that would fit the stage, the technology that would be used for the logistics and the necessary setups for her to do the concert,” she says.

Transport connectivity is another problem. There is no direct public transport link to the Philippine Arena, the biggest stadium, which can seat 50,000 people. Suizo spent four hours travelling from Manila to the venue for a recent Bruno Mars concert. About half the audience arrived late, she added.

“Let’s hope there is [investment], because it really is an eye-opener for the government and everyone,” she added. The Philippines was missing out on the economic opportunities associated with hosting big concerts, says Suizo.

By contrast, Taylor’s six shows in Singapore , where tickets start at S$108 ($80), are expected to bring a major boost to its tourism sector, as is a visit by Coldplay, which recently announced six shows there.

Singaporean media have pointed to the city state’s connectivity, facilities and the tourism board’s efforts to position it as an entertainment and events hub as reasons for its attractiveness.

‘We love you, we are waiting for you’

In Thailand , fans believe Taylor’s tour dates might also reflect concerns about political instability. Many remember bitterly how Swift had to cancel her 2014 concert in Bangkok after the military coup by the now caretaker prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.

Pongpond Karnsubwedchkij, 19, of the Thai fan group Saratay, says he plans to travel to watch her shows elsewhere. But he adds: “I would love to hear her say ‘Sawatdee kah Thailand’ rather than ‘Hello Japan’, or ‘Hello Singapore.’”

He thinks the political situation is changing, citing the recent election, in which the progressive Move Forward party won the most seats.

Pongpond’s message to Swift? “We love you, we are waiting for you and we will continue to wait. And finally, Prayuth is no longer prime minister. Please come here.”

Elsewhere, some have questioned whether some performers have been deterred by intolerant attitudes in the host country. When Coldplay announced tour dates in Indonesia and Malaysia in May, it was met with a backlash from conservative politicians and religious groups over the group’s support for LGBTQ+ issues.

But Swifties say they will continue to celebrate her music in their home countries, with both Saratay and Swifties Philippines organising listening parties to coincide with the release of the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) album.

Many will also keep trying their luck getting tickets for Singapore. Gabriel Eric Villanueva promised to try to get tickets for his fiancee, Smile Carvajal, when he proposed last year. On Wednesday, he wore the same shirt from the day of his proposal for good luck, while his friend, who qualified for a presale, entered the queue on his behalf.

They were number 257,930 in the queue, but unsuccessful.

He will try again on Friday when the general sale begins. They will buy any ticket that is available, as long as it is reasonably priced. “Even if it’s just the cheapest ticket – just to be there,” says Carvajal.

Military families, friends bond over Taylor Swift as Eras Tour comes to Tokyo

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — American pop icon Taylor Swift performed the first of four sold-out concerts this week at the Tokyo Dome, and the audience did not lack for fans from the U.S. military.

Swift, whose “Midnights” earned album-of-the-year honors at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, began the Asia leg of The Eras Tour at the 55,000-seat arena Wednesday night. Thousands of fans, known as Swifties, lined up long before the show’s 6 p.m. start time to buy concert merchandise.

The 3 ½-hour-long show did not disappoint, said Jacqueline Ochoa Luna, a support supply technician at Yokota Middle School. She is among a group of school employees with tickets to see Swift over several days.

“She is a performer; there was a lot of storytelling and there’s a connection that you feel, and I did cry during one of the songs,” Ochoa Luna said via Facebook Messenger the morning after the concert. “It was a great show, and I hope she comes back to Japan for her next tour.”

Swift began the highest-grossing concert tour ever, and first to hit $1 billion, March 13 in Glendale, Ariz. The tour moves on to Melbourne, Australia, after Tokyo.

Swifties speculate she may fly to Las Vegas in between those gigs to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce and his fellow Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.

Yokota Middle student Madeline Frost, 14, plans to reunite with sister Katherine, 20, at Swift’s third Tokyo Dome performance on Friday. Katherine is flying in from Provo, Utah, just for the show, Madeline said by phone Wednesday.

“I look forward to dancing and hanging out with my sister,” she said.

Rebecca Riggs, an Air Force spouse at Yokota, said her winning bid in an online auction scored her a $915 VIP ticket for Friday’s show, a long time coming for this Swiftie.

“I’ve been a fan of Taylor forever,” she said Tuesday via Facebook Messenger. “I am most looking forward to hearing all of the songs live, actually seeing her in person and hopefully experiencing the full Swiftie atmosphere I hear so much about.”

Swift is a pioneer in the music industry who breaks all stereotypes of a woman in that field, Air Force Col. Iris Ortiz Gonzalez, commander of the 374th Dental Squadron, said Wednesday at Yokota’s dental clinic.

Ortiz Gonzalez and her older daughter have tickets for Swift’s final Tokyo performance on Saturday.

Ortiz Gonzalez said she admires Swift’s commitment to her work and performance schedule, while also maintaining a balanced personal life and doing the best she can to support her family, friends and relationships.

“A lot of the Taylor Swift publicity and headlines have to do with who she’s dating and typical stereotypical things that people highlight about women,” she said.

“I feel like women have had enough of that; very rarely you see articles or news clips of Taylor Swift promoting her entrepreneurship, her creative mind, how she got where she is. And that’s the part about her that intrigued me.”

This won’t be Ortiz Gonzalez’s first Swift show; she caught The Eras Tour on May 13 in Philadelphia with her daughters, Kiara, 17, and Liana, 9.

They all vie for the title of biggest Swiftie while bonding over the singer’s music.

“If you go to my daughter’s room, there are posters of her everywhere,” she said. “We have all her vinyl, sweaters and T-shirts. “It provides an opportunity to bond, using the hairbrush as a microphone while singing songs. It is great. I love it.”

Taylor Swift resumes the Eras Tour as she hits the stage in Tokyo

Taylor Swift is back!

Fresh off her historic Grammy-winning weekend, the global superstar hit the stage Wednesday to resume her sold-out Eras Tour in Tokyo, Japan.

The “Cruel Summer” hitmaker appeared in good spirits as she kicked off her four-night Tokyo stint filling up the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome Stadium.

The performance marks the start of month-long sold-out gigs in Asia, including a quick intermission that will see her make a mad dash back to Vegas to attend her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl game on Feb. 11.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Tokyo gig, excited fans lined up in the chilly weather hours before the concert’s start time.

Swift’s Eras Tour had its first show in March 2023, and will run through Dec. 2024.

It’s expected that Kelce will attend several of her shows after he wraps up his football season.

Page Six revealed that  Swift will attend the Super Bowl  at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as she resumes the international leg of her blockbuster Eras Tour.

Swift has performances scheduled in Tokyo through Feb. 10 — one day before Super Bowl LVIII gets underway, but there is time to fly back and arrive in Sin City on Saturday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.

The pop star will be on tour for much of 2024, taking the Eras Tour to Australia, Singapore, and Europe in the first half of the year, before heading to Canada in the fall.

Over the weekend, Swift became a 14-time Grammy winner and  the first-ever artist to win four Album of the Year awards  after her historic win for “Midnights” at the 66th Annual Awards.

Swift, who has been nominated for 52 Grammys in her career, received six nominations this year for her album “Midnights,” which was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

Her lead track “Anti-Hero” was nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

She was also nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for her song “Karma.”

Swift also sent fans into overdrive after  announcing her new album, “Tortured Poets Department.”

The singer’s 11th studio album, which features 17 tracks, will be out on April 19.

Look What Taylor Swift’s Exclusive Singapore Shows Made Its Southeast Asian Neighbors Do

F ans across Southeast Asia were seeing Red when news broke last year that Singapore would be the only regional stop for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. But as concertgoers swarm to Singapore for the pop star’s six sold-out shows starting this weekend, it seems like Bad Blood is also brewing among neighboring government officials, amid allegations that Singaporean authorities specifically brokered a deal for TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year to Stay Stay Stay in the city-state.

On Wednesday, Philippine lawmaker Joey Salceda called on the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs to pressure its Singaporean counterpart agency for an explanation on the Delicate situation, local media reported.

“If true, [this] isn’t what good neighbors do,” said Salceda, adding that while the grant gave a significant boost to Singapore’s economy, “it was at the expense of neighboring countries, which could not attract their own foreign concert goers, and whose fans had to go to Singapore.”

“It also runs contrary to the principle of consensus-based relations and solidarity on which the ASEAN was founded,” he said, referring to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, a body that helps to coordinate cooperation in the region.

How You Get the Girl

Speculations of an exclusivity deal between Singapore and Taylor Swift’s were first brought up by Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who told a Bangkok business forum on Feb. 16 that he had heard from Swift’s concert promoter Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) that the Singapore government had offered up to $3 million to Swift’s team for each of the shows she would put on in Singapore, in exchange for a promise not to perform anywhere else in Southeast Asia during her Eras Tour.

AEG did not immediately respond to TIME’s request for comment, while Singapore’s tourism and youth authorities confirmed to TIME in a joint statement that the tourism board had “supported the event through a grant” without specifying the sum or details of any restrictive clause.

“If I had known this, I would have brought the shows to Thailand,” Srettha said at the forum, describing the Singapore government as “clever” for allegedly brokering an exclusive deal with the organizers.

There’s little wonder why governments are desperate to have Swift grace their stadiums. The Grammy-winning singer is known to revitalize local economies wherever she goes . More than 300,000 tickets have been sold for Swift’s Singapore shows, and buzz surrounding the concert is giving the city-state a phenomenal economic boost. Tourists traveling in to catch Swift’s performance have driven up local hotel and flight prices by up to 30% , and experts estimate that Swift’s concerts could generate up to $500 million in tourism revenue—along with the cascading economic impact of the city solidifying its reputation as a massive events hub.

The youth ministry, its statement to TIME said, “recognized that there will be significant demand from Singaporeans as well as fans across the region for her to perform in Singapore, and worked directly with AEG Presents for Taylor Swift to perform in Singapore.”

You Belong With Me

While some are decrying Singapore’s maneuver, others see opportunity in trying to replicate its success. Indonesia’s tourism minister told Bloomberg earlier this month that they “need ‘Swiftonomics’ for Indonesian tourism” and were introducing policies to entice more tourists to visit the country, including a seed fund of up to 2 trillion rupiah (about $127 million) per year to support music, sports, and cultural events.

And last week, when asked if Hong Kong would consider “similar arrangements” when trying to attract pop concerts to revive the city’s post-pandemic economy—in reference to Swift’s alleged deal in Singapore—the Chinese enclave’s leader John Lee said : “Amid Hong Kong’s fierce competition with other cities that have been striving to improve themselves, we have to be relentless in our efforts to lure mega events including matches, sports events and cultural events.”

Hong Kong authorities recently dedicated nearly $2 million in grants to welcome TIME’s 2023 Athlete of the Year Lionel Messi and his team Inter Miami to the city for a friendly match—though that ended in a PR disaster .

Moreover, the singer-songwriter announced that the following artists will join her on her tour: Paramore, Beabadobee, Phoebe Bridgers, Girl in Red, Muna, HAIM, Gracie Abrams, and Owenn.

As Swift announced, the tour will first arrive in US stadiums from March 18 to August 5, 2023, while the international dates– hopefully with Manila joining the lineup– are yet to be announced. Eras Tour (Pope’s Version): Why Francis will skip Philippines in Asian trip

Eras Tour (Pope’s Version): Why Francis will skip Philippines in Asian trip

MANILA, Philippines – “Come back, be here.”

In a move that reminded Filipinos of the popular Eras Tour concert, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis will visit four countries in the Asia-Pacific in September this year, with the Philippines not on the list.

Francis will visit Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Singapore, in this order, from September 3 to 13.

Netizens asked why Francis will not be stopping by the Philippines, the biggest predominantly Catholic country in Asia, during his Asia-Pacific trip.

The pope skipping the Philippines like the main pop girls I hate it here. https://t.co/rGVrpt0qLX — Ralph (@heyralphhey) April 12, 2024
Not Pope Francis skipping the Philippines in favor of Singapore ala Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour 😭😂 https://t.co/j7IH84sD4R — E J P__PHL 🇵🇭⚖️ (@earl___greggy27) April 12, 2024
The Pope is skipping the Philippines, the most Catholic country in Asia? 😤 He’s not that different from Taylor Swift then. 😆😭 @Pontifex https://t.co/Cz1FWRbCAR — Mel 🍉 (@peanutbuttercup) April 12, 2024

CBCP president explains

Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, said in a message to Rappler that the Pope prioritized countries like Singapore and Indonesia “where Catholics are very tiny but influential minorities,” given his increasing frailty.

“Pope Francis has visited the Philippines in 2015 and he has a deep fondness about his Philippine visit, which he keeps mentioning whenever he meets Filipinos in special audiences. But obviously, he is not as energetic as he used to be anymore,” he said.

David noted how Timor-Leste is predominantly Catholic but with “only a small population of one million.” He also depicted the Catholic minorities in the three other countries that the Pope will visit: 30% of the population in Papua New Guinea, 3.1% in Indonesia, and 3% in Singapore.

“Since Indonesia and Singapore are now so easily accessible to Filipinos who are not even required a visa to these fellow ASEAN countries, I am sure many Filipinos who have the means will take advantage of the opportunity to see Pope Francis there,” said the CBCP head, who is also the incoming vice president of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences .

Some Filipinos remember this situation all too well after American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift announced additional stops for her Eras Tour, but the Philippines did not make the cut.

The resemblance between Swift’s much-awaited concert and the Pope’s highly anticipated visit brought out jokes from masterminds on the internet.

Willing to travel

But just like Swifties and the Eras Tour, many Filipino Catholics expressed their willingness to travel to Singapore or Indonesia – which are four-hour flights away from Manila – just to see the Pope in the flesh.

Here’s which Taylor song you should boogie to at every European destination

By Charlie Fabre

Writer and editor for Contiki, Charlie is French-American, obsessed with travel, art, food, and reading in the New Hampshire forests.

Published on Oct 16, 2023

Guys, it’s finally happening, the Eras Tour is hitting Europe in less than a month and we couldn’t be more excited! Picture this: you’re on your merry way to your concert city, you’re travelling through Europe, perhaps for the first time , and it feels like you’re in wonderland. Paris under the Eiffel Tower (munching on a croissant), Berlin’s best underground clubs, or London walking Camden Market in the afternoon.

And though you’re there for the concert, you need some tunes to hold you over – a tune to mark the occasion and complete this beautiful travel moment. Luckily for you, we’re here to help. So grab a pen and an old napkin and let’s find out which terrific Taylor track best matches the Eras Tour cities!

Feeling inspired?

QUIZ! Which Era are you?

1. fall head over heels for paris with love story.

How could the city of love not be graced with Taylor’s iconic Love Story ? Spend a romantic day visiting the underrated yet stunning Musée de L’Orangerie for somewhere you can be alone. Then grab a pain au chocolat to snack on while you walk down the Seine and up at the Champs de Mars. Don’t forget to check out one of Paris ’s iconic street-side bistros for an early dinner. Then close your eyes and let those beautiful flashbacks start…

Paris dates: 9-12th of May

2. Don’t Blame Me if I end up moving to Stockholm

Colourful buildings, amazing pastries you’ll be craving, art museums, and idyllic docks; Stockholm is a perfect destination and it might just make you crazy. It’s got just the right amount of cool that matches Don’t Blame Me ’s vibe to a T, so bopping down the street to this is only right.

Stockholm dates: 17-19th of May

Stockholm for the weekend: how to spend the perfect 48 hours

3. it’s a cruel summer in lisbon.

Oh did we say cruel? We meant totally cool. As far as Eras Tour cities go, Lisbon is bright and sunny and the life of the party! Head to the beach for a swim, hit the highstreet for some shopping, and bask in that warm ever-present light. Plus, admire some of Lisbon’s most colourful architecture along the way. It’s a vibe, it’s high energy, so what better song to accompany your Lisbon escapade than the fun and flirty Cruel Summer !

Lisbon dates: 24-25th of May

4. Edinburgh deserves a cosy tune like Betty

Book lovers, history buffs, and fans of charming cities gather: Edinburgh is absolutely the perfect place for you – especially if you decided to visit in the crisp but magical autumn or winter season. Listen to Betty , a tune off one of Taylor’s most Scotland-coded albums, and read in the window of the Waterstones on Prince Street which offers the most beautiful views of Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh dates: 7-9th of June

Scotland and Ireland

5. london boy for, you guessed it, london.

I mean, Taylor did all the work for us here by providing a detailed list of all the must-see areas in London! So make sure you’re bopping around to this tune while you visit the West End and Mayfair, and sing it out loud with your new British pub mates as you watch rugby with their school friends. London is one of the most vibrant Eras Tour cities, so much so that she’s performing here twice!

London dates: 21-23rd of June and 15-20th of August

6. Escape to Dublin to live out your Wildest Dreams

The Irish countryside is handsome as hell and you’d be doing yourself a massive favour by booking a little weekend escape there! Stroll along the coasts and the cliffs, feel the wind in your hair, and then settle back into vibrant Dublin for one of the best live music scenes in Europe. The cobblestone streets, the green and orange bunting, the Guinness! Wildest Dreams is the tune that should define your best Irish life while you visit this Eras Tour city.

Dublin dates: 28-30th of June

What to do with 2 days in Dublin

7. loving amsterdam was red.

No, this choice has nothing to do with the Red Light District (though what a great coincidence). Instead, it has everything to do with the fact that Red is a party-country tune, the best of both-worlds, and if you know Amsterdam, you know it’s just that. Amsterdam puts on a cosy and charming front with its canal, endless cyclists with adorable wicker baskets, and of course the tulips. But it’s also home to a wicked nightlife. Once you’ve been, forgetting Amsterdam is like trying to remember a destination you’ve never been to before!

Amsterdam dates: 4-6th of July

8. Become a Suburban Legend in Zürich

Light and dreamy, this song perfectly captures the vibe of Zürich. This Swiss city is beautiful and idyllic – you’ll feel like you’re floating on air as you discover the colourful Scandi-inspired architecture of the pre-medieval Old Town. Tick-tock, time’s running out for you to explore this national treasure before other avid travellers take over, so enjoy the mountain air by the docks of Lake Zürich in peace while you can.

Zürich dates: 9-10th of July

9. Hit up Milan in Style

One of Europe’s (and the world’s) biggest fashion capitals, how can you NOT listen to Taylor’s iconic tune Style when you’re there? Don your boldest red lip as you traipse through the pretty streets of Milan, window-shopping and imagining yourself in the most stunning of outfits, indulging in the finest of things. You can also zoom over to famous Lake Como for a weekend of luxury with a James Dean-type travel companion. Lush!

Milan dates: 13-14th of July

10. I Know Places in Munich

Munich is looked to in the fall for Oktoberfest, but it seems relatively forgotten about the rest of the year. And what a mistake that is! Of all the German Eras Tour cities, Munich is one of country’s best hidden gems, and that’s why Taylor’s I Know Places is the perfect anthem to represent it. Get lost staring up at the timeless Bavarian architecture (all colourful walls and exposed beams), and enjoy an apple strudel as a light snack before a hearty German meal.

Munich dates: 27-28th of July

3 nature spots to visit on a day trip from Munich

11. follow your invisible string to the immortal vienna.

Sweet and classic, infused with a majestic cultural scene complete with prestigious ballet and dressage schools as well as impressive art museums, Vienna is the city for lovers of all things pretty. Play Invisible String, a gentle ballad, as you check out the museum quarter or even pop into a stunning opera. These two go hand in hand, trust us.

Vienna dates: 8-10th of August

Other European cities fans will love

1. party in prague to 22.

You may not know much about Prague but we’ll bet you want to. A trip to the Czech Republic’s capital spells only one thing: a few nights you won’t be sleeping. It’s young, it’s a little bit hipster, and it’s cool; it’s one of the best cities to visit if you’re a fan of history and culture by day and party and celebration by night. It’s a shame Prague isn’t one of the Eras Tour cities because it’s less miserable and more magical, and you’d be partying the night away!

10 Best Things to do in Prague at Night

2. live carefree with i knew you were trouble in berlin.

Stockholm’s older sister, Berlin is just as cool as the Swedish capital, but it’s also got a fun edge to it. The place where all cultures and styles collide, you’re guaranteed to have an exhilarating time here, and maybe make a few questionable choices along the way… But it’s all for the plot and this is why I Knew You Were Trouble is the perfect anthem for Berlin!

Image source: Michael Heise / unsplash

3. Make Rome your ultimate End Game

I mean, all roads lead to Rome, right? So it’s the perfect End Game to your European odyssey (and this would have been a PERFECT Eras Tour city to end the tour). Rome’s got a big reputation for being one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Europe, and it certainly lives up to the expectation. A perfect mash up of past and present influence, there’s a little bit for everyone in timeless Rome.

Simply Italy

4. become one of the new romantics in florence.

Classic and flirty, Florence is Italy’s answer to Paris, with its storied cobblestones and sunkissed buildings. New Romantics’ lively beat is paired perfectly while skipping down the streets of Florence in a true ‘main character’ moment. It’s the home of some of Italy’s most famous and enchanting contributions to art and architecture, and many of Florence’s most pristine art galleries and attractions are free, such as the Uffuzi Gallery, the Basilica de Santa Maria Novella, and the famed Duomo. After all, the best places in life are free…

5. Become Fearless on your trip to Dubrovnik

We really don’t know how it gets better than this: azure water, pinky-white beaches, a historic city, beautiful hikes to enjoy the sights. Dubrovnik has gained in popularity lately, but it’s still kind of on the quiet side of tourism even though it deserves all the love! This is definitely a dark horse amongst all the non-Eras Tour cities. So, we challenge you to go out to prove how Fearless you can be and listen to this iconic tune as you go out and explore this soon to be iconic destination.

Croatia Island Sail

6. shine and glitter in the bejeweled budapest .

Budapest, one of the crowning jewels of eastern Europe, is a city of many gems. From heated public baths which steam right into the open air, to ruin bars which give your nightlife a new quirky spin; it’s a unique and dazzling city. It only makes sense for you to blast Taylor’s feel good bop Bejeweled as you catch the golden reflection of the houses of parliament making the whole Danube shimmer.
