Teddy Swims Showers 'Lose Control' Songwriters With 'Love' After Song Tops Hot 100

See latest videos, charts and news

The announcement photo may look familiar to fans, as she donned the same glittery attire on the cover of her seventh studio album. Bey also added “Renaissance World Tour” on her Instagram bio, further accenting the news. Last week, Beyonce performed a full concert for the first time in four years at a luxury resort in Dubai in front of influencers and journalists. The 19-song set included a collaboration with her oldest daughter Blue Ivy as the two performed “Brown Skin Girl,” which earned them a Grammy two years ago for best music video.

Crowned a triumphant win by music lovers, Renaissance stormed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last year and rattled off two Hot 100 top 10 hits, including her chart-topper “Break My Soul.” The dance-centric album also notched nine Grammy nominations, the most for any nominee for this year’s ceremony. Bey is looking to rack up more trophy wins, as she currently sits at a staggering 28 wins. Nominated for album of the year, song, and record of the year, Bey is facing some stout competition , especially in the former. The R&B juggernaut will tango against Adele, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, and more for album of the year. A win in this category would serve as Beyonce’s first. The 65th Grammy Awards will occur Sunday night in Los Angeles at 8 pm EST.

Beyoncé performing in Dubai in January, 2023.

Beyoncé announces Renaissance world tour

Singer’s first tour in seven years names UK dates including Cardiff, Edinburgh and London, followed by shows in Europe and North America

Beyoncé has shared details of her first tour in seven years. The hugely anticipated Renaissance world tour will begin on 10 May at Stockholm’s Friends Arena before working its way through stadiums in Europe and the UK over the course of spring and summer. The tour’s North American leg starts on 7 July in Toronto, and continues through to the autumn, with a concluding date set for 27 September at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome.

The Renaissance world tour includes an extensive run of UK dates: Beyoncé will perform on 29 and 30 May at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Cardiff, Edinburgh and Sunderland set for 17 May, 20 May and 23 May respectively. Tickets for all dates will be available from Beyoncé’s website .

Beyoncé’s last tour was 2016’s Formation world tour . That show, in support of her sixth album Lemonade, saw her perform in Sunderland , Cardiff , London, Manchester and Glasgow, totalling over 300,000 tickets in the UK alone.

The Renaissance world tour supports Beyoncé’s 2022 album of the same name. Widely hailed as a career-best, the album was acclaimed for its pivot to club styles such as house and disco, as well as for a credits list that highlighted LGBTQ+ Black pioneers such as Honey Dijon, Kevin Aviance, Ts Madison and Big Freedia. Voted the best album of 2022 by Guardian music critics , it debuted at No 1 on the UK and US charts, and has been certified gold in the UK, indicating sales in excess of 100,000. Writing about the album in an end-of-year essay, Jenessa Williams said that Renaissance “sees Beyoncé at her most lyrically playful, political by destiny rather than design.”

Although Renaissance was lauded for its platforming of LGBTQ+ artists upon release, Beyoncé has faced criticism this year for choosing to perform at the private opening of luxury Dubai hotel Atlantis the Royal, given the United Arab Emirates’ criminalisation of homosexuality and allegations that migrant workers in the country face conditions amounting to indentured servitude.

Jason Okundaye wrote for the Guardian : “the issue of migrant labour adds an additional dimension to conversations on the ethics of concerts.”

after newsletter promotion

“It’s as much about where Beyoncé performs as who she’s performed for and who she’s accepted money from,” he wrote. “Renaissance’s lead single, Break My Soul, may have been billed as the pro-worker Great Resignation anthem of last summer, but it is muted when money talks.”

Beyoncé Announces Renaissance World Tour

By Evan Minsker and Allison Hussey

Beyonc

Beyoncé has announced that she’s touring in support of her latest album, Renaissance . The tour begins with a European leg in May, followed by dates in Canada and the United States that extend from from early July through late September. It’s her first tour since her 2018 co-headlining On the Run II Tour with Jay-Z behind their collaborative album, Everything Is Love , and her first headlining tour since 2016’s Formation World Tour behind Lemonade . The Renaissance World Tour is produced by Parkwood Entertainment and promoted by Live Nation. See all of the dates below.

Renaissance arrived July 29, rising swiftly to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and marking Beyoncé’s seventh album to summit the albums chart. It is the first act in what will be a three-part series, she has indicated.

Beyoncé hinted at her world tour in late October, during the fifth annual Wearable Art Gala, where the raffle included “ a UNIQUE experience ” to see her on the Renaissance tour. Purported images from the auction featured descriptions of the summer 2023 trek. Valued at $20,000, the package included first-class plane tickets, a three-night hotel stay, two concert tickets, and a guided backstage tour from Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles aka Miss Tina. Beyoncé was reportedly in attendance at the gala. In January, she performed at the opening of a new luxury resort in Dubai, but did not play any Renaissance material at the private concert . It was her first live performance since 2020.

Since sharing Renaissance , Beyoncé has made a few adjustments to the album; she replaced ableist lyrics in “ Heated ,” and removed an interpolation of Kelis ’ “Milkshake” on “Energy” after Kelis said she was not informed by Beyoncé and her team that her music was going to be used on the new album. Beyoncé also dropped Honey Dijon and Madonna remixes of “ Break My Soul .”

In 2019, Beyoncé released Homecoming: The Live Album . The next year, she shared Black Is King , a visual album based on her 2019 soundtrack for The Lion King: The Gift . (Beyoncé voiced adult Nala in the CGI remake film.) On Juneteenth of that year, she surprise-released “ Black Parade ,” which would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance . At the same ceremony, she also won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song (for her feature on the remix of Megan Thee Stallion ’s “ Savage ”), as well as Best Music Video (for The Gift ’s “ Brown Skin Girl ”). “ Be Alive ”—her contribution to the King Richard soundtrack—was nominated for an Oscar at last year’s ceremony.

Beyoncé is nominated for nine honors at the 2023 Grammy Awards : Record of the Year , Song of the Year , and Best Dance/Electronic Recording for “Break My Soul”; Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for Renaissance ; Best R&B Performance for “Virgo’s Groove”; Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa”; Best R&B Song for “Cuff It”; and Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Be Alive.”

Beyoncé finally announces 40-stop Renaissance world tour

The artist confirmed the news via instagram wednesday morning before sharing a full list of dates on her website.

Beyoncé

It appears Joe Biden’s Wednesday announcement that Congress will begin limiting egregious concert ticket fees comes not a moment too soon: this morning, Beyoncé also finally announced a 47-date world tour supporting her Grammy-nominated album, Renaissance . Hear that tapping? It’s the sound of stuffed Ticketmaster queues everywhere being refreshed over and over and over.

Beyoncé confirmed the news on Wednesday morning via her Instagram , where she shared a tour announcement alongside another glittery portrait from her Renaissance album cover photoshoot. Kicking off in Stockholm, Sweden on May 10, the tour’s European leg includes two dates in London—a North American leg kicks off with two dates in Toronto, Ontario on July 8 and 9, respectively.

Swirling excitement for the Renaissance live experience has been at a high for almost six months now, since the July 29, 2022 release of the album drew profound acclaim from critics and fans alike (it was The A.V. Club ’s No. 1 album of the year ). By the time she heads out on tour, it’s more than likely Beyoncé will also have a few more Grammy nods under her belt— Renaissance saw the artist nominated nine times, bringing her cumulative total nominations to an astounding 88.

beyonce dubai performance

As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

Beyoncé is back. Queen Bey has returned to the UK, proving once again that she can dazzle a British audience as effortlessly as she did when she first performed here as the 18-year-old Houston-born diva of Destiny’s Child in 2000. Her last run of solo shows, 2016’s Formation World Tour, sold out in the UK within 30 minutes. On their release in February, tickets for the London dates of Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour saw virtual queues of over 250,000 as the Beyhive swarmed for a shot at seeing their Queen in action.

With her unmatched, melismatic vocals and physical athleticism, Beyoncé, now 41, has long established herself as a peerless performer. Last July, Renaissance marked yet another reinvention for the pop behemoth, as she combined house grooves and pulsating disco beats for her saucy, celebratory seventh album. It was universally acclaimed. Everyone agreed – Beyoncé had done it again. So what is there left to do when the fans, the critics and the artist herself are well aware of her unrivalled star power? The Renaissance World Tour’s answer is simple: just bask in it, baby.

Over two-and-a-half hours, Beyoncé shows this Cardiff crowd that she is as sizzling as ever – only this time, she no longer has to go above and beyond to prove it. But first, a surprise: bucking a near-20-year trend, Beyoncé opens with “Dangerously in Love”, the title track from her 2003 debut instead of long-time opener “Crazy In Love”, her booty-shaking classic from the same record. Tonight, she glides swan-like to the front of the stage, looking bridal in a white, sparkle-encrusted Valentino gown, for some good ol’ fashioned crooning. Growling and fierce then buttery and seductive, her voice wraps around the song’s runs with complete ease. Beyoncé in her forties is doing some of the best singing of her life.

When she follows up with “Flaws and All”,  a B’Day bonus track from 2006, it becomes clear that this is not a Beyoncé show like any other. Chart-topping anthems like “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and “Halo” are out. Deep cuts are in – whether the casual fans “get it” or not. Most of them aren’t too fussed. They’re a little bewildered, sure, by the presence of lesser-known tracks like “Rather Die Young” and “My Power” but overall, they’re just giddy to be there and happy to be carried by the high-energy of the Beyhive’s most devoted members.

“I feel the lyrics of this song more and more as I mature,” she purrs over the track’s tinkling guitar. Embracing imperfection is a prevailing theme throughout the night. Later, when her mic briefly goes silent mid-line, she continues singing until she’s audible again: no big deal . It’s a far cry from the Beyoncé who famously yelled “somebody’s getting fired!” over a failed lighting cue at a 2009 show.

  • Beyoncé review, Renaissance: Politics gives way to post-pandemic pleasure
  • Lizzo review, O2 Arena: Pop powerhouse proves she’s a musician for the ages
  • Sam Smith review, O2 Arena: Years of self-discovery culminate in this sultry, sparkly show

“1+1” and “I Care” complete Beyoncé’s opening act – and now, with the crowd suitably tingling from her vocal display, the Renaissance begins. “My house of chrome, where I am reborn,” Beyoncé’s voice bellows off-stage. The colour scheme blinks out of a warm golden sunrise and into the dark of the disco club.

A glitterball overhead sends shards of light across the stadium as the electronic screen flashes a pair of metallic robot legs, cheekily spread wide open. She emerges from between them donning a skin-tight chrome leotard. It’s a rebirth of sorts, as Beyoncé bids farewell to the sweet balladeer who opened her show. Now, it’s time to party.

On Renaissance , the songs slip easily into one another. It’s only fitting then, that much of the show follows the order of the album as “I’m That Girl” flows satisfyingly into “Cozy”. The music lends itself to a smoother, groovier style of dance. Less high-kicking and hard stomping; more writhing and sensual. As early as January, there have been rumours that the star is recovering from a foot injury. Though she’s not confirmed any ailment, it’s a possible explanation for her decision to tone down her dancing tonight, most often opting for upper-body choreography only.

Beyoncé, her dancers and her disco horse

At times, it is impossible to ignore the absence of full-out, sweat-dripping moves from a performer who built her name on them. Elsewhere, though, her dance team more than help to pick up the slack. From the return of her long-time collaborators, French breakdancing duo Les Twins, to stars of the Ballroom scene such as Honey Balenciaga, the people on stage with Beyoncé are as at the top of their game as she is. They shake and bounce their “asses and tig ol’ bitties” at Beyoncé’s command through “Church Girl”, strut fiercely down a runway during “Move” and slink their way across the stage as Beyoncé hits the hypnotic light notes of “Virgo’s Groove”.

Audience interaction this evening is limited beyond a few perfunctory quips – and yet the intimacy is palpable. When the crowd joins in with a lyric in “Heated” that name-checks her late dress-making Uncle Jonny, Beyoncé visibly beams with pride. A gay man who dies of an Aids-related illness when Beyoncé was a teen, Johnny was a key inspiration for the sound of Renaissance .

The show ends as the album does, with the Donna Summer-infused tonic “Summer Renaissance”. Suspended by ropes, Beyoncé literally rides her disco horse into the distance, leaving in her wake the thousands left marvelling at her musical and visual voyage they’ve been a part of. It’s hardly a surprise; on “Alien Superstar”, Beyoncé already reminded us that she’s one of one, and number one. After tonight, who are we to tell her any different?

Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé called out by Monica Lewinsky: over 'Partition' lyric after ableism controversy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets for the North American leg of the tour will be available through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 6, with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, according to a Live Nation press release.

Verified Fan registration is now open. Once you register, you'll be placed in a lottery system that determines which fans get invited to purchase tickets. Registration alone doesn't guarantee tickets. If you're selected, you'll get an access code the day before tickets go on sale. Everyone else will be placed on a waitlist. According to Live Nation, this process is intended to help Ticketmaster weed out the resellers and verify your account so that actual fans get priority to buy tickets.

Citi cardmembers will have a special Citi Presale after the Verified Fan process. Get more details here . Verizon will also offer an exclusive presale through their customer loyalty program Verizon Up .

Will Beyoncé be using Ticketmaster like Taylor Swift to sell tickets?

Yes, but given what happened with Taylor Swift's Eras tour (and the fact it led to Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster ’s practices), it seems very likely both Beyoncé and Ticketmaster would want to avoid repeating that mess. That most likely explains the usage of the Verified Fan system.

Where will Beyoncé be playing?

The Renaissance World Tour will hit 40 cities in North America and across Europe. Stops include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, and many more.

What has Beyoncé said about the Renaissance World Tour?

She just announced it was happening with a post on February 1. Her website didn't immediately contain any more details. But during the Wearable Art Gala in October 2022, she appeared to confirm it would start this summer, as a backstage tour with her mother Tina Lawson was up for auction at the event.

Will Beyoncé be performing at the Grammys (on February 5) and sharing more tour details there?

Not clear yet, but she is the most nominated artist at the ceremony . On January 21, Variety reported that “ talks with show producers are ongoing for a possible onstage appearance ” by Beyoncé.

What can we expect from the tour on stage?

Beyoncé hasn't shared that yet either, but given the artistry she put into her recent Dubai show , it's fair to say we can expect no less than excellence, elaborate costumes, and an incredible experience.

This post will be updated the moment more detail is released.

The Black Keys add third London Brixton Academy show to Spring 2024 UK and Ireland tour

The band have already sold out two nights at the Brixton Academy

The Black Keys

The Black Keys have shared details of an additional date at London’s Brixton Academy for  2024. Find ticket details below.

News of the tour dates come following the band revealing details of their new album ‘Ohio Players’ back in January, which they shared with the lead single ‘Beautiful People (Stay High)’ .

The album – which is a follow-up to 2022’s ‘Dropout Boogie’ – is set for release on April 5, and will now be followed by shows across the UK this spring.

The first of the band’s shows will be held on April 27, with an opening night at the new Co-op Live arena in Manchester. From there, the band travel to Cardiff and Dublin before the remaining three nights will be held with back-to-back slots at the O2 Academy Brixton between May 7-9. The two nights previously announced in London on May 7 and 8 have now sold out and the new show will take place on May 9.

Confirmation that the London shows will be held at the venue comes after news broke last month (March 4) that the space will be reopening in April . The O2 Academy in Brixton closed its doors in December 2022 after a fatal crowd crush took place at an Asake concert , which left two people dead.

Tickets for The Black Keys’ new show go on sale this Thursday (March 28) at 9:30am local time and can be found here .

APRIL 27 – Manchester, Co-op Live 30 – Cardiff, Utilita Arena

MAY 3 – Dublin, 3Arena 7 – London, O2 Academy Brixton 8 – London, O2 Academy Brixton 9 – London, O2 Academy Brixton – NEW DATE

Announced back in January, ‘Ohio Players’ will mark The Black Keys’ 12th studio album and is set to feature a variety of guest appearances, including collaborations with the likes of Noel Gallagher and Beck .

Following the lead track, the duo have also gone on to share another teaser from the LP in the form of the emotive single ‘I Forgot To Be Your Lover’ .

Their upcoming shows in Brixton come after the future of the iconic London venue was thrown into question following the tragic events in 2022. During the Asake gig, fans Gabrielle Hutchinson, aged 23 , and 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo were killed, and a third was left in critical condition.

Following the fatal crush in 2022, Lambeth Council suspended the venue’s license and the Metropolitan Police reportedly made a push for the location to close its doors for good as it faced indefinite closure.

An online petition was launched to counteract the closure, and various artists and industry professionals also spoke out against the potential shutting down of the venue .

In December 2023, it was announced that the venue would be allowed to retain its licence and re-open if it can meet “robust” safety rules . After doing so, the first run of comeback gigs was announced last month.
