Patagonia Travel Rod Roll - Camo

I packed my Patagonia Black Hole Wheeled Duffel as my checked bag and my Patagonia Stormfront Backpack as my carry-on. I put all five of the rods into the new Travel Rod Roll and rolled it up tight and clipped the two straps around it. I felt that there was plenty of stiffness once rolled and wasn’t concerned about my rods at all. Right before we left, I slipped a sixth rod into my Rod Roll for another angler. I stuck the roll back into my duffel and we were off. I was feeling quite confident with this new product and figured worst case scenario, one rod may get broken in transit. Our first flight out of SFO was to Istanbul, Turkey, which was 13 hours. We changed planes in Istanbul and went on to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, which was another nine hours.

Our bags were exactly where they were supposed to be when we got out of Customs, and we were off to the hotel. This would be the first time I would see if my rods made it safely from California to Tanzania, and I wasn’t surprised when I opened my Black Hole Duffel and the Rod Roll was exactly where I packed it, with all rods safe and sound. Just to be sure, I pulled it from my bag to check, and every single rod was in perfect condition.

In my opinion this new product from Patagonia is an innovative way to transport several rods at once. The weight is minimal, design simple; exactly what one would expect from Patagonia. You can use it as a carry-on piece or shove it in your duffel bag. Once you reach your end destination, you can unroll it and clip the straps together and hang it from a hook. All of your rods will be safe, out of the way, and well organized.

Gear Review: Patagonia Travel Rod Roll

And by the way, tigerfish are badass and everything you want on a fly rod. We had a fantastic trip and scheduled another one for the same week next year. If you want to join Eric Argotti on the trip, email him at argotti@theflyshop or call 800-669-3474 .

I give this new product an excellent rating and highly recommend it for anyone who is traveling where weight and space matters. Give me a call at 800-669-3474 or shoot me an email at [email protected] if you want to learn more about this Patagonia product or any others.

Patagonia Black Hole Rod Case

True to patagonia's ethos, it's made with 100% recycled fabrics..

Patagonia Black Hole Rod Case

$239 | patagonia.com

It might look like most other rod cases you’ve seen, but there are two major differences—it’s bigger and made with 100% recycled fabrics. The only parts of the new Black Hole Rod Case ($239, patagonia.com ) that aren’t recycled are the zippers and buckles, and you can bet that Patagonia is working on that. Even the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) in the Black Hole Rod Case is recycled. Patagonia has been using recycled nylon and polyester fabrics for some time, but this is the first time recycled TPU has been used in the fly-fishing industry. TPU is a waterproof material, also used to make inflatable rafts and waterproof backpacks.

Most other rod case have inside dimensions of 32 inches, but this one takes rod sections up to 36 inches, so you can tote 11-foot Euro-nymphing rods and switch rods wherever you want to go. The case has movable dividers in the main compartment to help you organize whatever you need—reels, sunglasses, fly boxes, and other essentials. There’s a comfy shoulder strap, and the handle is large enough to slide over the handle of your roller bag so you can easily manage multiple items at once.

There are two large zippered compartments inside the top of the case, perfect for extra fly lines, leaders, and travel documents. On the outside, there are two high-volume zipper compartments suitable for books or multiple large fly boxes. Most rod cases have some external zippered storage, but these are substantially larger than most other brands, making the Patagonia Black Hole Rod Case the largest-capacity rod case on the market today.

How to Tie the Picky Eater Perdigon

Like it or not, competition angling is driving many of the advancements in our sport. And while I generally find Perdigons and their cousins to be pretty boring flies, Zach VanDeHey, a 39-year-old Oregonian, and his approach to his Picky Eater Perdigon gives me hope for the future. VanDeHey hatched the idea for his Picky Eater while feeling was that his conventional Perdigons were sinking too fast. Though the entire premise behind slender-bodied nymphs with big tungsten beads is to plummet through the water column to the bottom, these fish were feeding in the middle of the water column. VanDeHey got to work on the vise to design a fly that would sink more slowly and spawned the brilliant idea of not only downsizing the bead, but also adding a dubbing-loop CDC collar to function as a parachute and reduce the rate of descent. This flowing CDC collar adds tons of fluid motion to the fly, and creates enough drag and lift to keep the fly drifting mid-column. Follow along as I twist up this super-fishy fly.

Scientific Anglers Launches Reimagined Tropical Saltwater Fly Lines

The Magnitude series is a completely new creation in the same way that the first breathable waders and the first graphite rods were fundamentally different from their predecessors. These are the first lines from Scientific Anglers that are not polyvinyl chloride. Magnitude lines are made from new, naturally buoyant polymers. That's one reason why they are clear or available with clear tips—because these new polymers don't require an infusion of tiny glass spheres or bubbles for buoyancy.

How to Tie Dorsey's Top Secret Baetis Fly

These days there are so many reasonably simple fly patterns that work well but have no soul or appeal to fly tiers. Pat Dorsey took a simple combination of materials and created a fly that is durable, quick, and fun to tie, and it not only gets the job done, but it also looks good doing it. Based off the success of his remarkable Top Secret Midge pattern, Dorsey took a familiar route to alter that pattern slightly to create this effective Baetis imitation. The beauty of this fly is that it is tied from very commonly available materials—for the most part, albeit with some necessary modern-day substitutions—and it is straightforward to tie.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

!{Model.Description}

patagonia black hole travel rod

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

Centers of gravity, not black holes:experts discuss new moscow metro stations, united kingdom architecture news - jan 22, 2015 - 10:43   4455 views.

In 2015 Moscow will see a wide range of new capital transportation facilities, and their design is just as important. We asked four jury members of the recent design competition for metro stations Solntsevo and Novoperedelkino to tell us more about this aspect.

Erken Kagarov, Vice President of The Academy of the Graphic Design, art director of “Art. Lebedev Studio”:

“Being a designer, first of all I did my best to evaluate the visual aspect of the offered solutions. Besides that it was important for me to see something new and original. Otherwise, why bother organizing a competition?

As for the results of the contest, I am under the impression that we tried to get everything at once, and that was a mistake. The winning projects are quite expressive and not too expensive. Unfortunately, they are not at all ground-breaking. If we take a look at the history of Moscow metro and the work of one of its best creators, Alexey Dushkin, we’ll see that he was constantly inventing and reinventing certain techniques and materials: he was the first one to use stainless steel to decorate Mayakovskaya, he came up with the idea of columns lit from below for Kropotkinskaya, he put up stained-glass panels underground, where the sun doesn’t ever shine, on Novokuznetskaya......
