Planning for a day trip to Putrajaya? Don’t forget to experience Cruise Tasik Putrajaya. This is an amazing experience that offers you a ride around the artificial lake of Putrajaya on a cruise.

I went to Putrajaya on a sunny day in May, during the Hari Raya holiday. I planned to visit the mosque and experience riding a horse in Equestrian Park Putrajaya, but sadly, they were both closed on that day. So I could only do the cruise tour operated by Cruise Tasik Putrajaya.

In this post, I’m going to share my experience on Cruise Tasik Putrajaya including all the information about the cruise, the Putrajaya Cruise price, and my review with pictures.

By public transportation

Below is the guide to go from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya train station, and from the station to the jetty.

  • From Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya

The easiest and fastest way to get to Putrajaya from Kuala Lumpur is by KLIA Transit train. The whole journey takes about 20 minutes and costs  RM 14/person/way.

Departure station: KL Sentral

Arrival station: Putrajaya Sentral

Note: There is a KTM line called KLIA Ekspres, it’s totally different from KLIA Transit and does not stop at Putrajaya Sentral Station. So remember to buy to correct tickets.

  • From Putrajaya Sentral Station to the jetty

You can take a taxi/grab car to the jetty from the Putrajaya Sentral Station, it’s only a 10-minute drive.

Driving a car is much faster and more convenient. If you don’t have a car in Malaysia, you can rent it via SOCAR app, this app provides a car rental service at a competitive rate.

👉 Want to rent a private car for a day trip to Putrajaya ? Contact me via Whatsapp +60 149.776.712 (Mai) or my Instagram for the best price 💸 .

Joining a tour is an easy option if a car and public transportation are not suitable for you. I highly recommend this tour: Putrajaya and River Cruise Tour because there are a lot of people who booked this tour and most of them gave positive feedback about it.

Some information about the tour:

  • Website to book tours: Click here

  • Attractions included in the itinerary: Cruise Tasik Putrajaya, Putrajaya Mosque, Putrajaya Bridge, PJ Government Centre, Putrajaya Perdana.
  • Duration: from 9:30 to 13:00

Putrajaya Cruise price ranges from RM30 up to RM3000+ depending on which service you choose: sightseeing cruise, dining cruise, and Perahu Dondang Sayang.

For charter service booking, you can contact them via the phone number or email (provided above) at least 1 week before. Payment or deposit is also required prior to departure.

I only experienced the sightseeing cruise and here is my review of it:

  • The cruise interior design is modern and luxurious, and air-conditioners are available onboard.
  • There are 2 balconies from which I could enjoy the breeze and the view of Putrajaya Lake.
  • There is a presenter to explain the history or information about every landmark we pass by.
  • The schedule is sometimes not correct as stated on their website or ticket counter. We came there during the holiday and thought that the cruise would depart at 11 a.m. as informed. However, we came to the ticket counter but no one was there until 12 p.m., and they said that the cruise ran at 1:30 p.m. Therefore, we had to go somewhere else for lunch and come back before 1:30 p.m. for the cruise. It was a scorching hot and tiring experience.
  • When the journey is finished, they also sell photos of you standing next to the cruise. I can’t remember exactly how much it was (5-10RM). You can buy it as a memory.

Some pictures of Cruise Tasik Putrajaya:

Putrajaya-cruise-price-river-tasik-interior-design

Overall, it was a good experience. The cruise is nicely designed and clean, the staff is polite. However, I highly recommend you call them in advance to ask about the schedule of Cruise Tasik Putrajaya to avoid wasting your time and energy.

Above is my experience of Cruise Tasik Putrajaya including all the information about the cruise, the Putrajaya Cruise price, and my review with pictures. Hope you find it helpful. Share your thoughts in the comment box.

Lake cruise with a scenic view of Putrajaya in the background

Image © 2008 Audrey Lim

If you are visiting Kuala Lumpur and want something different other than the usual eating and sightseeing, why not combine it and have your meals at a restaurant with an ever-changing view? If you do not have that much time but want a unique sightseeing experience nonetheless, you can fast track it as well. Where could you go for an interesting and different sightseeing experience? There is no other than with Cruise Tasik Putrajaya.

Cruise Tasik Putrajaya (CTP) was the brainchild of Perbadanan Putrajaya, the city’s authority and administrator. The concept of a sightseeing/dining cruise at Putrajaya became a reality when it was officially launched on August 30 th 2003 by the former Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad. Due to the natural wetlands and a beautiful 650 hectare man-made lake which spans across the city’s landscape, the idea of a cruise along its waters was simply brilliant and a nice opportunity for tourists to admire the modern city and appreciate the unique landmarks of Putrajaya.

There are various tours offered such as the perahu rides, air-conditioned dinner cruises, love boat rides, cocktail cruises, tea cruises, lakeside dinners, party/karaoke cruises, and private boat charters for functions and events.

Some of the wonderful sights that you will see along the cruise includes the Putra Mosque, Darul Ehsan Palace, Ministry of Finance, Ser Wawasan Bridge, Millennium Monument, Palace of Justice, Ser Saujana Bridge, Perdana Leadership Foundation, Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Seri Gemilang Bridge, Perdana Putra (Prime Minister’s office) and Putra Bridge.

Dining Cruise

The dining cruise is exceptionally unique where you will board a luxury boat for an elegant meal while enjoying the sights of Putrajaya. This cruise type is perfect for a corporate or social function as it can hold up to 60 people in a sit-down dinner concept. There is various times where you can charter the boat. The following is a quick look of the available times, dining options, and other criteria:

Traditional Cruise

If you have limited time but would still like to view the futuristic city of Putrajaya on a boat, you can opt for the traditional cruise ride. There is a fleet of boats for this purpose. Called the “Dondang Sayang”, you are in for a nostalgic and romantic boat ride.

The open-air gondola-like ride is manned by a single boatman and comes in two traditional designs, namely the Payang and Kolek , which can accommodate four to six people respectively. These perahu are actual replicas of the traditional fishing boats used in the East Coast of Malaysia. Payang ’s design has a straight bow and stern while Kolek has a curved bow and stern. Both these boats are made for high seas. Only local material is used in the construction of these boats, of which the hull is made of the best local hardwood that is specially selected and seasoned. The wood is called Chengal Mas . Accompanying your boat ride is some Dondang Sayang music.

The details of the traditional cruise are as follows:

  • Boat Ride Duration: 25 minutes
  • Boat Schedule:  Anytime based on boat availability

Passenger Cruise

For something a little more luxurious and comfortable, you can go for the passenger cruise instead. The “Belimbing” is a fully air-conditioned 65’ cruise boat that was built for the very purpose of bringing visitors on a sightseeing cruise around the Putrajaya lake. The name “Belimbing” was derived from the famous leatherback turtles.

The boat is unique with plush interior and fine trimmings while offering unobstructed view via the wraparound glass window which spans from the passenger’s armrest level up to the ceiling. A leisurely cruise, it will bring you to some of the more stunning landmarks of Putrajaya. Onboard is a local cruise guide to give you commentary about the scenic sights while you enjoy the view and refreshments served.

Take in the sights of Putrajaya on a leisurely lake cruise in air-conditioned comfort, allowing you to enjoy the Intelligent Garden City from a unique perspective. Putrajaya was named after Malaysia’s first Prime Minister—the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. This outstanding precinct spans 11,320 acres comprising 13 different gardens, with more than 70% of its area devoted to greenery and water. The principle landscape feature is the Putrajaya Wetland—a man-made lake. More than 50 local species of native wetland plants were cultivated in the 17-acre Putrajaya Wetland Nursery prior to planting in the wetland cells.

A city highlights drive will stop at Perdana Putra (the Prime Minister’s Office Complex) and the Putra Mosque , which incorporates Islamic architecture from Turkestan, Kazakhstan and Morocco. Other sights include the Palace of Justice and the 1,200-foot-long Seri Wawasan Bridge—a futuristic cable-stay bridge built across Putrajaya Lake and Putra Square.

Please note: Approximately 20 minutes of walking is required over relatively flat paved surfaces. There are approximately 60 steps to access the boat jetty area. Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring insect repellent.

17 Things To Do In Putrajaya That Prove There’s More To The City Than Government Buildings

putrajaya cruise love boat

Things to do in Putrajaya

Putrajaya is home to almost all of Malaysia’s government buildings after it replaced KL as the nation’s federal administrative centre. So it’s racked up a reputation as a city most of us wouldn’t usually think of when scouting out fun activities to do in Klang Valley – case in point, when it was voted the least romantic state in Malaysia back in 2020.

But you’ll be surprised with the variety of attractions hiding out here – a thrilling skate park, romantic cruise rides, and ‘overseas’ photo spots included. So venture beyond your usual places in KL and Selangor and check out these 17 cool things to do in Putrajaya .

Table of Contents

– Attractions –

– sports –, – leisure –, guide of things to do in putrajaya, 1. explore a chinese garden at china-malaysia friendship garden.

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - garden

The pandemic has undoubtedly dashed many of our travel plans. But there are attractions such as China-Malaysia Friendship Garden that bring scenic overseas places to our country.

This lesser-known garden in Klang Valley is part of the larger Anjung Floria Garden, a public park in Putrajaya comprising several smaller gardens. The Chinese-style garden was opened in 2015 to commemorate Malaysia’s diplomatic ties with China.

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - pavilion

Boasting a Chinese pavilion, moon gate, and stone walls, the garden has plenty of spots that look straight out of a Chinese historical drama. Visitors can drop by to soak up the beauty of these traditional structures, and take enchanting ‘overseas’ snaps – the garden’s entrance with its dramatic, sweeping roof is an especially popular photo-taking spot.

Spend enough time driving through Putrajaya and you’ll find yourself cruising over multiple bridges – the city happens to have eight unique bridges that connect its 20 precincts.

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - bridge

One of these bridges is Seri Gemilang Bridge , an elaborate European-style bridge modelled after Pont Alexandre III bridge in Paris, France. It’s even flanked by four decorative towers with elegant gold and marble trimmings.

The bridge is even more captivating at night when it lights up, making it an ideal spot for romantic strolls along its designated pedestrian lanes and a charming subject for photographers.

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - bridge

In contrast to the old-world charm of Seri Gemilang Bridge, Seri Wawasan Bridge in Precinct 2 is a futuristic, asymmetric bridge that looks like the bow of a ship. This bridge lights up in vivid colours from evening till midnight, and has a pedestrian lane right down the middle where you can take amazing symmetrical shots.

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - boat

The longest bridge in the city, Putra Bridge stretches 435-metres long and is three storeys tall. Its top level is used as a vehicle crossing, while its lowest level is a pedestrian lane that leads out to scenic piers by the lake. A monorail track is planned for its middle level.

For a fun fact, this bridge is modelled after the Khaju Bridge in Iran.

5. Check out a pink mosque on a lake, Putra Mosque

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - pink mosque

It’s hard to miss Putra Mosque in Putrajaya. This iconic waterfront landmark is a sacred space for Muslims in the country, and an architectural attraction due to its unique pink exterior comprising nine pink-coloured domes crafted with rose-tinted marble.

It’s one of only a handful of well-known pink mosques located around the world.

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - mosque

Non-muslims are welcome to visit during non-prayer hours to explore the Main Prayer Hall, where soft, rosy sunlight is reflected off the pink interior walls and massive dome.

Hooded robes are provided free-of-charge to all women, as well as anyone who is not in proper attire for their visit.

6. Climb up unique steps for elevated photo ops

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - steps

Flights of steps may not sound like much of an attraction. But throw in vibrant paint and manicured foliage, and they instantly turn into eye-pleasing areas for urban photography.

Take Alamanda Steps for example. These colourful steps connecting Alamanda Shopping Mall to a riverside area was given a fresh coat of paint and geometric designs in 2019, and it has since become popular location for photo ops in the city.

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - steps

A new landmark in Putrajaya is Tangga Putrajaya Steps , another set of steps in the city that has been attracting attention online. It was opened to the public in October 2021 as a recreational area for residents, as well as a new spot to catch panoramic views of Putrajaya.

The flight is about 30-metres in length and comprises 248 steps. Its design is inspired by well-known steps from abroad such as Spanish Steps in Italy, and also one closer to home – Batu Caves.

When the hotter months of March and April are around the corner, visitors can expect to see pink and white Tecoma trees in bloom along the steps.

Alamanda Steps Address: Jalan Alamanda, Presint 1, 62000 Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya Opening hours: 24 hours, Daily

Things To Do In Putrajaya Guide - dome

Another equally impressive mosque here is Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque. Dubbed the “Iron Mosque” by locals, this open-concept mosque is constructed mainly of stainless steel, giving it a futuristic look that sets it apart from more traditional mosques.

The mosque is open to visitors during non-prayer hours, so architectural buffs can check out its stunning interior influenced by Chinese and German architecture. This mosque’s charms include its many symmetrical arches and minimalist dome.

'Love Boat' theme cruise setting sail later this year

A new “ The Love Boat”-themed cruise will set sail later this year on the actual Love Boat – or as close as fans can get.

Princess Cruises , whose ships served as the backdrop for the beloved 1970s and ‘80s series, will offer the itinerary in August. The sailing marks the line’s second Love Boat cruise following its first outing in 2022, and will feature members of the original cast.

“We had such a blast connecting with fans on our theme cruise in 2022, so bringing it back in 2024 feels like it was meant to be, especially with the addition of some surprise guests,” Jill Whelan, who played Vicki Stubing in the show and serves as Celebrations Ambassador for the line, said in a news release . “Sailing with our fans brings us so much joy and this cruise will undoubtedly be a special reunion, taking us back to where it all began – on a Princess Cruise.”

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

When is the 2024 Love Boat cruise?

The week-long cruise will sail round-trip from New York on Aug. 31. The voyage will take place on the line’s 3,660-passenger Enchanted Princess ship, which launched in 2021 (the line has retired the vessels actually used in the show).

Where will the cruise sail?

The ship will visit Newport, Rhode Island; Boston; Rockland, Maine; and Saint John and Halifax in Canada.

Along the way, guests will get face time with the cast, including Whelan; Bernie Kopell, who played doctor Adam “Doc” Bricker; Fred Grandy, who played purser Gopher, and Ted Lange, who played bartender Isaac. Ezra Freeman, the bartender from “The Real Love Boat,” a reality dating show inspired by the original series, will be on hand as well.

Activities include a sailaway party, meet-and-greet photo and autograph sessions and a cocktail demonstration hosted by Lange and Freeman. Passengers can also test their knowledge at “Love Boat” trivia and even participate in a symbolic vow renewal ceremony officiated by the stars, among other programming.

The line will also offer a VIP package that gives guests access to a cocktail party with the cast, move them to the front of the line for photos and autographs, and other parks.

How much does the Love Boat cruise cost?

The sailing currently starts at $568 per person based on double occupancy, according to the line’s website . The fare includes the cruise’s themed activities, many restaurants on board, entertainment and more.

Princess will announce pricing for the VIP package at a later date.
