Amazing artist, sounds incredible live, beautiful voice. He has a good stage presence and other members of his band are equally talented. Great show all around at a great venue.

Matt really impressed live with his powerful voice and tight performance. I would prefer to see him tour with more band members and fewer recorded parts, though. I also really enjoyed the opener act, Betcha, and hope to hear more from them in the future.

About Matt Maeson

One of his generation’s most fearless singer/songwriters, Matt Maeson has endlessly proven the powerful impact of fully revealing his demons and damage. With the arrival of 2019’s  Bank On A Funeral , the 29-year-old Virginia native made history as the first male solo artist to earn two #1 Alternative Radio hits from a debut album, thanks to the smash success of the unforgettably confessional singles “Hallucinogenics” and “Cringe” (both of which went platinum). Now boasting over a billion streams, including his collaboration with Lana Del Rey on a remix of “Hallucinogenics,” the Nashville-based musician returns with his sophomore album  Never Had To Leave —a revelatory body of work that embodies a newfound hopefulness, yet reinforces the raw intensity and unapologetic truth-telling that have defined Maeson’s music from the very start.

“The reason I make music is I want my songs to help people feel justified in whatever they’re feeling, especially if they’re going through hard times,” says Maeson. “When I was 17 I started performing in prisons as part of my parents’ prison ministry, and I realized what music could do as far as helping people feel dignified and less alone. It was a way of bringing light into one of the darkest possible places, and right away I knew I wanted to do that for everyone. Keeping that in mind has always motivated me to write as honestly as possible, without filtering anything out.” Continue reading…

DMA’s announce winter 2023 UK tour

The 10-date tour will kick off in December

DMA's 2023

DMA’s have announced plans for a UK tour, kicking off later this year. Check out a list of tour dates below.

  • READ MORE: DMA’s – ‘How Many Dreams?’ review: rave-rockers swing big

The upcoming UK dates will see the Sydney-based trio make 10 stops across the UK this December, including two back-to-back slots in the capital.

Kicking off on December 5, the trio – comprised of Tommy O’Dell, Matt Mason and Johnny Took – will start the UK leg of the tour in Norwich with a show at the University of East Anglia, before making stops in Southampton, Nottingham and Liverpool.

From there, a gig at the O2 Academy in Bristol will take place on December 11, followed by a run of dates in Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester.

The final dates of the 2023 winter tour will be held at HERE at Outernet in London, with two shows lined up for Sunday, December 17 and Monday, December 18. Tickets go on sale this Friday (July 21) at 10am BST and will be available here . Find a full list of venues below.

DMA’S UK tour dates are:

DECEMBER 5 – University of East Anglia, Norwich 6 – O2 Guildhall, Southampton 7 – Rock City, Nottingham 9 – University Mountford Hall, Liverpool 11 – O2 Academy, Bristol 12 – Great Hall, Cardiff University, Cardiff 14 – O2 Academy, Glasgow 15 – Warehouse Aviva Studios, Manchester 17 – HERE at Outernet, London 18 – HERE at Outernet, London

DMA's UK Winter Tour Poster

The upcoming tour dates will follow on from the band’s biggest UK headline show to date at the OVO Arena Wembley this April , as well as their stint appearing as special guests to The Courteeners in front of 50,000 fans at Heaton Park.

The shows are also set to celebrate the release of their latest album ‘How Many Dreams?’ , which arrived earlier this year.

Their fourth full-length album, the LP followed on from 2020’s ‘The Glow’ , and saw the members find a balance between electronic dance elements, alongside guitar rock and punk. It also received a three-star review from NME , with Thomas Smith writing: “If there ever was a moment for DMA’s to really commit to a sound, and to do so fearlessly, it would be on album four – frustratingly, it feels like they’ve held back at points.”

“This isn’t entirely a wasted opportunity, though. ‘How Many Dreams?’ is ambitious and catchy enough to satiate old fans and realign the narrative for those who may have written DMA’s off,” It continued. “But it’s hard to not leave feeling that this was their moment, and they’ve only grabbed it with one hand.”

Fans can buy and sell tickets for DMA’S at global marketplace, viagogo here .

Short Track Weekly: A Look at the CARS Tour Class of 2024

The start of the 2024 zMAX CARS Tour pro late model season is just days away, with the Pro Late Models set to begin their season at Southern National Motorsports Park on March 2, before the late model stock cars take center stage a week later on March 7.

While the pro late model season is set to be outstanding in its own right, the late model stock cars Class of ‘24 is the most competitive the series has ever seen on paper, with a mix of series veterans and newcomers alike.

With new title sponsor zMAX and the new ownership group now in its second year, the series is at the dawn of a new era, potentially with its best season yet on the horizon.

Here’s everything you need to know about the late model stock car class of ‘24, and the outlook for the season as it’s set to begin in just over a week’s time.

The Title Favorites

One season ago, the chase for the 2023 title came down to just five points between eventual champion Carson Kvapil and runner-up Brenden Queen, as Kvapil ultimately walked away with his second consecutive series championship. With the stacked full-time field heading into 2024, these two should remain the title favorites until someone else proves otherwise.

For Kvapil, being the two-time reigning champ speaks for itself, and that’s just the start of Kvapil’s list of accomplishments of the course of his time with JR Motorsports. It’s no secret the JRM No. 8 is top of the line equipment, but it takes a wheelman to make sure said equipment still ends up in victory lane often, and Kvapil has done just that.

With four wins in 2022 followed by five in 2023, nobody has found victory lane more than Kvapil and the No. 8 team over the past few years. In fact, the team even started off its 2024 with a win, winning the annual Ice Breaker event at Florence Motor Speedway against a full field of late model stock competition in February.

The only knock on Kvapil to this point is that he’s already guaranteed to miss at least one race in 2024. It was recently announced that Kvapil would make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Martinsville Speedway in April, a race that conflicts with the CARS Tour event at Hickory — a race Kvapil won last year. This isn’t a first for Kvapil. His 2022 championship campaign included a one-race absence due to suspension, so it’s a challenge that is entirely possible to overcome, although it does create an opportunity for the rest of the field.

The next man up ready to capitalize on that opportunity would undoubtedly be Brenden “Butterbean” Queen. Butterbean had an outstanding first year in the CARS tour last season, finding victory lane four times with 12 top fives and 15 top 10s in 16 races.

As previously mentioned, the first year pairing of Queen and Lee Pulliam Performance came up just five points short of a championship in 2023, and without a fuel calculation mishap in the Old North State Nationals at Tri-County, they very well could have walked away as champions.

Queen led 94 of 200 laps in the series’ crown jewel event, before the fuel blunder led to the No. 03 running out of gas with 22 laps to go. The result was a season-low result of 16th, on a night where Queen easily had the dominant car and Kvapil came home second.

As Butterbean and LPP head toward year two together and Queen’s second go-around with the CARS tour, the pair continues to trend upward, and we could very well see a Waffle House championship celebration at season’s end.

Old Faces In New Places

While Queen and Kvapil may be staying put in their old rides, there’s a whole list of drivers who are ready to contend for a title as they prepare for fresh starts with new teams. Connor Hall, Deac McCaskill, Landon Huffman and more made up the silly season carousel that helped lead to such a competitive field for 2024.

When looking for a title contender, look no further than Connor Hall. Not only is he the reigning NASCAR Weekly Series National Champion, which carries a ton of weight in its own right, he’s now paired up with one of the most successful teams in the series history with Nelson Motorsports.

Hall is no stranger to full-time CARS competition, as he ran the full series schedule in 2022, winding up second in the standings at season’s end to Kvapil. Hall intended to run the tour again in 2023, but after a strong early season run on the Weekly side, went in a different direction.

Now, Hall is back for more, looking to go one spot better than his ‘22 effort with a team that is no stranger to championships. The Nelson No. 22 won the title with Bobby McCarty in 2018, 2019 and 2021, and found victory lane as recently as last fall, when the team won the Old North State Nationals with Landon Huffman behind the wheel. The Hall-Nelson duo will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in 2024.

Another driver to keep an eye on is the driver who Hall replaced in the No. 22, Huffman. He joined the Nelson Motorsports team mid-season in 2023 as the team was struggling and needed a driver to get it pointed back in the right direction.

Huffman did just that, finally breaking through for his first win in the series’ biggest event, the aforementioned Old North State Nationals, and finished out the season strong in the No. 22, with six top 10s, three top fives and a win in the final seven races.

However, despite the success, Nelson elected to go in a different direction, and Huffman now finds himself paired with Jimmy Mooring Racing, the winners of the 2020 series title with Jared Fryar. The team is set up with a brand new R&S racecar, and Huffman is bringing back the No. 37 that his father Robert made a career with in the Goody’s Dash series back in the day, so the former Hickory Motor Speedway track champion could be a title contender in his own right.

Speaking of former champions, the 2016 series champ Deac McCaskill is back, full time, for the first time since 2021, this time with R&S Race Cars. McCaskill was previously a customer of the team, purchasing cars that he then ran out of his own family shop, but now will be running with in-house equipment.

McCaskill had a stellar 2023 season, with something of a return to form as he picked up two wins during his part-time schedule on the tour — the first multi-win season for McCaskill since 2017. McCaskill has never finished outside the top five in points as a full-time driver, and could very well contend at the top this season once again.

Another driver on the move is Brandon Pierce, as he moves over from Lee Pulliam Performance to join Jacob Heafner at Carroll Speedshop, as both will chase the championship in 2024. Ronnie Bassett Jr is also back on the tour full time with his family operation, and three time champion Bobby McCarty returns to R&S Race Cars for a second full time season in the No. 6.

McCarty picked up his first win on the tour since 2021 at Dominion Raceway in June, while Bassett’s first year with CARS resulted in five top fives and seven top 10s on the year. Heafner had a solid year in 2023 while Pierce had an uncharacteristic down year, and the two will look to improve in their first season as teammates.

Last season’s rookie of the year candidates Dylon Wilson and Cameron Bolin also return to the series, both staying put with their current teams for 2024. The two look to build on a solid rookie of the year battle from 2023.

The Newcomers

Aside from the veterans, the class of 2024 has a whole cast of newcomers set to take on the series.

To the surprise of few, Kade Brown is making the jump to go full-time in the tour with Matt Piercy Racing following a stellar 2023 season. Brown picked up the Florence track championship back in 2022, backed that up with a Hickory track championship in 2023, and won in the South Carolina 400 at season’s end.

Reigning NASCAR Canada Series champion Treyton Lapcevich is also joining the series full time in 2024, set to drive the No. 77 for Chad Bryant Racing. The CBR team comes into 2024 fresh off a national championship with Connor Hall in 2023. Lapcevich won half of the 14-race schedule with the Canada series in 2023, and now faces the new challenge of learning the ins and outs of a late model stock car.

Kevin Harvick Incorporated plans on running a full time entry for 15-year-old Brent Crews following the team’s rebirth in 2023. Crews picked up the 2023 Trans Am Series TA2 championship in 2023 along with making select ARCA Menards Series starts, including a win at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Crews, who was already signed with KHI Management beforehand, will drive the No. 29 for the full season.

Another big name on the list of newcomers is Stephen Nasse. A star on the super late model side of the sport, Nasse has decided to take on a new challenge and plans to run the full CARS season in 2024. It shouldn’t take long for the former two-time Winchester 400 winner to find his way to the front in a late model stock car.

Some other notable newcomers include Logan Clark, Cody Dempster and Isabella Robusto.

Clark will get a full time bid with R&S Race Cars after select starts with the team in 2023, including leading the most laps when the series visited New River All-American Speedway.

Meanwhile, Dempster, a former NASCAR Regional champion, will make the switch from super late models to late model stocks, traveling the country from his home state of Colorado.

As for Robusto, she joins Lee Pulliam Performance alongside Queen after being sidelined for the majority of 2023 with lingering effects of a concussion suffered during a crash at Hickory Motor Speedway early in the season.

Potential Spoilers?

The list above doesn’t even include the drivers who we know will run part of the schedule in 2024.

KHI plans to run a second car, the No. 62, on select occasions like it was run in 2023. The 2017 series champ and NASCAR Cup Series driver Josh Berry , 2023 ARCA Menards East Series Champ William Sawalich , 2022 NASCAR Weekly National champion Layne Riggs and former ARCA Menards West Series winner Landen Lewis will all split time in the car.

Tommy Joe Martins and Jonathan Findley will split time in the Martins Racing entry throughout the 17-race season in 2024, with Martins set to make his series debut in the car at Hickory in April.

The plans of Mason Diaz, who ended up third in the 2023 series standings, remain unknown, as work continues to go on behind the scenes. However, it was already announced Diaz will pilot the JRM No. 8 at Hickory during Kvapil’s absence, a place where Diaz picked up his first career win last season.

Another young driver to keep an eye on is Connor Zilisch. He signed a developmental deal with Trackhouse Racing over the offseason that included starts with CARS, although the details remain unknown at this time. Zilisch recently found victory lane in one of motorsports’ biggest events, as he was a part of the race-winning LMP2 team in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Just recently, the press release announcing Bubba Pollard to the JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series No. 88 listed Pollard as making select starts in the CARS Tour as well. Pollard, while not having as much experience in a late model stock, is one of the most accomplished super late model drivers on the circuit, and would have no problem adjusting if and when his CARS plans are confirmed.

It goes without saying that the class of ‘24 is absolutely stacked. Competition in the CARS Tour, along with late model stock car racing as a whole, continues to be on the rise, as we get set for what very well should be the best season the series has ever seen. Who knows, we may even see a couple of the boss men, Dale Earnhardt Jr . and Kevin Harvick , a time or two before season’s end.

matt mason tour 2023

matt mason tour 2023

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Matt Mason knew from an early age that his home would one day be Nashville, Tennessee. His earliest memories of his musical aspirations are going to the Grand Ole Opry with his family, and telling his Dad that he wanted to play there someday. So by the time he was eleven he was playing guitar and singing whenever he got a chance. Early on, his influences came from the gospel music of his family’s small church and the sounds of the late great Elvis Presley.

Today those influences still hold true, along with the music of Waylon Jennings, Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard and other country greats.

Matt's dream of being a singer became stone cold ambitions one summer on a family vacation in South Florida when he talked his father into letting him enter a talent show.  In front of a crowd of strangers Matt sang one of his favorite country songs and the reaction was overwhelming and more proof that being a country music performer was what he was destined to do. After this experience in Florida, Matt began to hone his craft even further by playing locally in his home state, and regionally opening for acts like Charlie Daniels, Joe Diffie, Vern Gosdin, Brian McComas, and Mel McDaniel.

The spring of 2005 brought the moment Matt had been waiting and working to reach for many years. He graduated from high school, packed his bags, and made that promising move to Nashville.  He learned quickly that Nashville is not a town that hands out free passes to stardom. It takes hard work and lots of paying your dues up and down the musical trail of bars lining Nashville’s most famous street, Broadway. Matt was ready for the challenge and quickly gained local fame at famous bars like Tootsies, The Stage, Legends Corner and others.  It was humbling to play on the stage of Tootsies where many of his heroes had played in their youth, and to know behind Tootsies majestically stands the Ryman Auditorium, known as the Mother Church of Country Music, waiting to embrace a new generation of country stars. Matt wanted to lead that new generation of country stars while always paying homage to his heroes and their influence with his music.

His first big break seemed to be on the horizon when in 2006 Matt auditioned at the Wild Horse Saloon for a television series called "Nashville Star" on the USA Network. From among 20,000 contestants Matt was chosen as one of the 10 contestants. Each week contestants competed for America’s vote and the judge’s approval. Matt’s strong willed, mysterious, and reserved demeanor lead him to be dubbed ‘The Quiet Storm” by co-host Cowboy Troy. "You deserve a record deal," proclaimed Anastasia after Matt sang David Allen Coe's "The Ride," and Phil Vassar and John Rich agreed that the young performer was "a certified badass." Matt’s performance of the Georgia Satellites' song "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" was a definite hit with the judges on an episode. Anastasia and Phil agreed that he showed range and ability, and Naomi Judd gushed that it was Matt's best performance to date. "You've got a quality," she said. Placing fourth overall in the competition secured Matt a spot on the "Nashville Star" Tour that crossed the country and brought Matt a solid following and fan base.

Matt’s fan base has stood behind him over the past years as he has continued to play shows around the country and has spent a significant amount of time in Nashville writing and recording songs. Matt has used his songwriting as an outlet to tell the up and downs from his own life over the years following the show. While continuing to work hard to attain his goals, a friend at renown booking agency William Morris Endeavor Entertainment who Matt had known for nearly ten years, recommended him for an opportunity to audition for a new show called “CMT’s Next Superstar”. Recognized from his Nashville Star days and for his amazing talent and perseverance in this industry Matt once again was chosen as one of the 10 contestants to compete for a major label record deal in Nashville.  After each episode, Matt would travel to different cities re-airing the show, playing an acoustic set and just hanging out with fans, which soon paid off.  He won "CMT’s Next Superstar."            Since winning the show, Matt has recorded eight master sides.  Four with producer James Stroud and four with producer Phil O’Donnell.  He has written upwards of one-hundred new songs, and played shows with Little Big Town and Blake Shelton.  He also toured for three months with Luke Bryan, Lee Brice, and Josh Thompson on the "CMT on Tour" tour.  Matt is continuously working, writing and touring to become a name that will go down in history.

Mason Andersen wins 117th Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro, earns exemption for The Open Championship

Daily Wrap Up

Change Text Size

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – The Korn Ferry Tour crowned yet another first-time winner, its fifth in a row to start the 2024 season, as Mason Andersen defeated two-time winner Kris Ventura on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff at the 117th Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro. Through the Visa Argentina Open’s partnership with The R&A, Andersen’s victory also earned him an exemption for the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.

An emotional Andersen pumped his fists in the air after the winning putt, on his way to accept the trophy, and upon conclusion of an emotional winner’s speech. The significance of the victory hit Andersen in waves, and the emotion poured out of him as he embraced his father just off Olivos Golf Club’s 18th green.

“Winning is just so hard in golf,” Andersen said. “You never win, you never win, and you come close a bunch of times, but winning’s just so hard. To do it with my dad here and my girlfriend here… yeah, pretty emotional.”

Andersen, a native of Mesa, Arizona, who played collegiately at Arizona State University, began the final round six strokes off the lead and made two bogeys in the first five holes Sunday.

Much like the first three rounds, Andersen’s putter was ice cold. Until, as Andersen said, “They all went in at the same time.”

Andersen closed the front nine with three consecutive birdies, followed by a streak of five consecutive birdies from Nos. 11-15, and another birdie at the par-5 18th to cap a dazzling 7-under 63 – which was the low round of the day by three strokes.

“I hope it’s enough,” Andersen said as he left the scoring area with the clubhouse lead at 17-under 263, which broke the 72-hole tournament scoring record previously established by Miguel Fernandez, who totaled 264 at Hurlingham Club en route to victory at the 1988 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro.

“I want to win,” Andersen said in a brief interview shortly thereafter. “Fifth, or sixth, or seventh doesn’t feel that good anymore. I want to win a tournament.”

Andersen and his small circle of family and friends secured a table in the club’s restaurant for the long await ahead. On a television across the room, Andersen watched anxiously as Ventura bounced between 16- and 17-under par on the livestream.

“All I need is a chance,” Andersen repeated to himself.

After about 90 minutes, Andersen stood up and headed for the driving range. The time for preparation arrived, regardless if the opportunity he craved would actually come.

Ventura bounced back from a bogey at the bogey at the par-4 14th with a birdie at the par-4 16th, getting himself to 17-under par and yet again pulling even with Andersen. After a par at No. 17, all that stood between Ventura and his third career win was a birdie at the par-5 18th, the easiest hole of the week in relation to par.

Ventura hit the green in two and had more than 30 feet left for eagle, but he ran his first putt about 4 feet past the hole. As Andersen prepared on the range, Ventura lipped out what would have been a tournament-winning birdie putt.

Andersen’s opportunity arrived.

The first playoff hole – No. 18 – was a stalemate, as Andersen and Ventura both made two-putt birdies. The two played the 18th again, and both stumbled after quality drives. Andersen lost his approach right and into the crowd, but caught a fortunate bounce off a large scoreboard and watched from afar as his ball settled in the greenside rough. Ventura left his approach in the front greenside bunker.

For their third shots, Andersen played a perfect open-faced chip and left himself 3 feet for birdie, while Ventura blasted his bunker shot over the green. Ventura saved par after two chip shots (he made the second), but Andersen made his short birdie putt and closed out his first win.

As Andersen celebrated, he thought back to his time at Arizona State.

“I lost interest in it for a while,” Andersen said. “If it weren’t for (Head Coach) Matt Thurmond and (former Associate Head Coach) Armen Kirakossian, I would not be playing golf right now. (Volunteer Assistant Coach) Howard Twitty as well. Those three guys were able to change my attitude, change the way I approach the game, just complete overhaul of what I was doing off the course… that sent me to where I am right now. Twitty sat me down and said, ‘If you keep acting the way you’re acting, you’ll never make it.’ This is a guy who’s won PGA TOUR events, so really thankful he was honest with me. Had the same conversations with Thurms.

“I just woke up one day and was able to turn it around.”

Andersen closed out a five-season college career (2017-22) with two victories and a 2022 All-America Third Team selection. In his first attempt at Q-School, Andersen was one of eight players who advanced through every stage – including Pre-Qualifying – of the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament (which has since become PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry).

Andersen played all 26 events of the 2023 season, and back-to-back finishes of T2 and T18 in the 24th and 25th events gave him an outside chance at a PGA TOUR card.

Mason Andersen sinks putt for birdie at Korn Ferry Tour Champ

“That one still kind of stings,” Andersen said. “I had my entire family there. It was too good to be true. I just wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready.”

This past offseason, Andersen focused on “the little things” with his sports psychologist and swing coach, believing it would be the finest of details which would ultimately take him to the winner’s circle and the PGA TOUR.

Although Andersen accomplished one of those goals Sunday, he gave himself a whole other checklist of details to refine ahead of The Open Championship this July.

“I’m excited,” said Andersen, whose lone PGA TOUR start to date was a missed cut at the 2017 U.S. Open. “It’s a different type of golf than I’m used to. I don’t play links golf. I’ve barely experienced it, so we’re going to have to gear up and get ready for that.”
