The large size and deep depths of Seneca Lake make it ideal for grape growing. It is no surprise Seneca Lake hosts more wineries than any of the other Finger Lakes.

Seneca Lake Wine Trail - A collection of 35 wineries on Seneca Lake make up the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail provides visitors with information on all of its member wineries and is a one-stop shop for information that will help you make the most of your next trip to Seneca Lake.

Barnstormer Winery – Barnstormer Winery was established in 2013 and focuses on producing around 4,000 cases each year of high quality, award winning dry and off-dry styles of Finger Lakes wine. We work with seven vineyards around Seneca Lake NY to ensure the highest quality grapes are being grown for our wines. We also offer a small market for local cheeses, charcuterie and other picnic items, along with a retail gift shop, an outdoor bard during the summer with cabanas and are dog friendly. Reservations are encouraged in our historic 170 year old barn winery.

Today, Fulkerson Winery grows a large variety of grapes and produces a number of wines.

Glenora Wine Cellars – After the Farm Winery Act of 1976 was passed, the owners of Glenora Wine Cellars took the opportunity to become the first winery on Seneca Lake. Quickly, Glenora Wine became known for its quality, winning several awards in its first vintage.

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard – Hermann J. Wiemer was convinced vinifera varietals could survive the harsh winters of New York during a time when few others agreed. In 1976, he planted his first vines knowing that the deep depths of Seneca Lake and the surrounding microclimate would protect his crop. Now, the Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard produces red, white, sparkling and dessert wines and is held in high praise by a number of wine critics.

35 events for new york’s first total solar eclipse for 99 years.

19th-century historic village Genesee Country Village & Museum will host its big "Solar Spectacle: A ... [+] Total Solar Eclipse" event exploring how 19th-century Americans viewed eclipses.

Deciding where to see the total solar eclipse in New York is difficult when there are so many spectacular options. The path of totality—just 110 miles wide—crosses the state's northwest, home to the vast minority of New York's 20 million people.

It's the state's first for 99 years, but it won’t just be New Yorkers that head to these places. For eclipse chasers in Boston, Philadephia, Pittsburgh and Wahington D.C. the “Empire State” is the natural place to head to.

“New York is such a fantastic place and so unusual for the eclipse,” said Dr. Tyler Nordgren, an Ithaca, New York-based astronomer, author of Sun Moon Earth and eclipse artist at Space Art Travel Bureau , in an interview. “There is a huge variety of utterly iconic and distinctly different locations to go, from Niagara Falls, Adirondacks, Finger Lakes wine region, Letchworth State Park—the “Grand Canyon of the East”—the Erie Canal, Rochester and Buffalo.”

When darkness comes at 3:16 p.m. to 3:29 p.m. EDT, where will you be?

Women's Rights National Historical Park Announces Convention Days 2024: Revolutionary Families

Mother and daughter at Convention Days

Seneca Falls, NY - Women's Rights National Historical Park invites visitors for Convention Days 2024, to be held in Seneca Falls, July 19-21. Convention Days, long a signature event in Seneca Falls, commemorates the anniversary of the 1848 women’s rights convention, where 300 women and men joined together in asserting that “all men and women are created equal.” The convention was the first of its kind in the United States and gave rise to the American women’s rights movement. The theme of Convention Days 2024 is Revolutionary Families, which will focus on the shifting role of the family throughout American history. Convention Days will include family programming, as well as presentations by historians, park staff, and living history performers focusing on the topic of family. In the nineteenth century, women's lives were legally and socially defined by their families. Unmarried women were under the influence of their fathers, while married women were considered the property of their husbands. Women's autonomy existed only when permitted by the men in their families. Mothers' lives were dictated by the needs of their children, and children's rights extended no farther than their mothers.’ Fathers were also limited by societal expectations that they support their families rather than being caretakers. Of the five convention organizers, all were wives and mothers, daughters and sisters, sisters-in-law, friends, and neighbors. Their roles in their families were intrinsically connected with their roles in society at large. Their own revolutionary families formed the basis for their activism; from Elizabeth Cady Stanton eliminating the word "obey" from her wedding vows, to the Coffin sisters' (Martha Wright and Lucretia Mott) abolitionist Quaker upbringing.  Today, gender and family remain intrinsically connected. Convention Days 2024: Revolutionary Families will focus on the ways family influenced the 1848 women's rights convention and the early women's rights movement, as well as the ways in which the definitions of family have changed and continue to impact human rights to this day.
