Bottom Line

The 22-room luxury J.K. Place Capri is an exclusive boutique that exudes elegance without being ostentatious. Built in a restored late-19th-century villa located on a main road, J.K. Place is perched on a cliff with gorgeous sea views visible in various spots, including the ultra-glamorous pool, which also offers food and drink service and poolside spa treatments. The hotel mirrors the sun and sea outside, with crisp whites, sea-blue accents, and lots of outdoor space for quiet relaxation. Guest rooms are spacious and comfy, with designer furnishings, beautiful views, and marble bathrooms, plus most have terraces or balconies. Another luxurious property to consider is the Capri Tiberio Palace , which has lower rates but a slightly less sophisticated look.

Oyster Hotel Review

A sophisticated hideaway with signature cocktails, poolside spa treatments, and panoramic views.

The J.K. Place Capri is an intimate and sophisticated hideaway that feels private despite being on the main road . The hotel combines elegance and a touch of avant-garde quirkiness, as is evident with its high-end Florentine furniture juxtaposed with zebra-striped footstools. The result is a posh, but not stuffy, vibe. The panoramic views from nearly every vantage point at the hotel are spectacular, and there are plenty of spots, inside and out, to contemplate the bay. J.K. Place feels less like a hotel than a luxury home from the '60s and '70s, when Capri was a jet-setter’s paradise. Canapes and drinks are offered upon arrival, and the attentive service continues from there. The vibe is quiet and restful, drawing well-heeled and design-conscious guests. Between the views, the comfortable furniture, the signature cocktails, spa, and bookcase full of art and photography books, adults will find just enough to entertain themselves while in full-on luxury vacation mode. In fact, many tourists not staying at the hotel will come to have a cocktail on the seaside terrace at sunset.

Note that the property closes every winter from around November through half of April (common for hotels in Capri and the surrounding area).

On the main road, easily accessible, five minutes' walk from the hydrofoil

J.K. Place Capri is located northeast of Anacapri, on the island’s main road, but once inside, the hotel is peaceful, sitting on the side of a cliff. The port is a five-minute downhill walk from the hotel. The busy Piazzetta, a hub of shops, restaurants, and historic buildings, is accessible by a free 10-minute shuttle or a leisurely 18-minute walk, although the roads are narrow and pedestrians are advised to keep an eye out for oncoming traffic. J.K. Place is easier to reach than many of the hotels in the center of town, a plus for guests with mobility issues.

As a small island, Capri largely limits car access, though public transportation and taxis are plentiful.

Canopy beds, inviting bathrooms with soaking tubs, and unforgettable views

J.K. Place Capri is comprised of 22 guest rooms and suites, all with sea or garden views. Guest rooms are large, modern, and beautifully decorated in classic Capri blue, white, and coral hues, with comfortable canopy beds and black-and-white photographs on the walls. Pillows monogrammed with a blue "J.K." add a preppy touch to white wingback chairs and bedding, and X-leg writing desks create glamorous work surfaces. Most rooms have spacious balconies or terraces with tables and chairs, and most past guests agree it's worth splurging on a sea-view units. Many rooms offer walk-in closets. Flat-screen TVs, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and daily newspapers come standard. Bathrooms are huge and swish, done in marble and mosaic tile, with elegant tubs, separate showers in most, flattering lighting, and even windows with views. Magnifying mirrors, bidets, and hotel-branded toiletries are also included, as are bathrobes and slippers.

Lovely outdoor pool, luxury spa, gourmet restaurant, and plenty of fitness options

J.K. Place features a large outdoor pool surrounded by a deck, comfortable sunbeds, and a lush green lawn. The Pool Bar offers drinks and snacks all day long, as well as a mini massage menu from which guests can order up poolside spa treatments. Off to one side is a sunny fitness center with picture windows and pool views. Personal training is available for a fee, and there are top-of-the-line cardio and weight-training machines for guest use. Pilates, yoga, and escorted hikes are also on offer for an additional fee. Spa fans have their pick of a full menu of massage, body and beauty treatments, sauna, and steam room at the J.K. Spa.

Cooking classes for all ages can be booked with the chef at JKitchen, the hotel’s restaurant, which serves a Mediterranean menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. A terrific and substantial daily breakfast is included in all rates, with ample hot and cold options. Finally, the J.K. Lounge Bar and Terrace offers high-end finger food and signature cocktails into the evening hours. The outdoor sea-view terrace is a popular spot for guests and non-guests alike. Room service operates 24 hours, and the hotel can arrange for a car service to and from the center of Capri.

JK Place Capri hotel review

By Lee Marshall

JK Place Capri

First impression So classy. Staff Always helpful, never servile. Food & drink Neapolitan finesse. Bed & bath Even the rainhead shower has a high thread count. The crowd Dislikers of upstart destinations. Deep-down romantics. In a nutshell If the Duke and Duchess of Windsor were alive today and had a little place on Capri , it might look like this. It’s cultured and nonchalant at the same time. Book a Gold List hotel now

Set the scene Capri is one of those places that can surprise the first-timer with just how low-key the island actually is. But this hotel is just so handsome, it's like a straight-backed mansion designed to be a shiny and fresh as a ship at sea, with views of Parmesan cliffs and Mount Vesuvius beyond.

What’s the story? The original JK Place in Florence redefined the Italian townhouse hotel when it opened its doors in 2003. Its Capri cousin arrived in 2007, followed by one in Rome in 2013. Paris is next up, in spring 2019. The name derives from the initials of Jonathan Kafri, father of the boutique brand’s Italo-Israeli owner, Ori Kafri. Designer of all four hotels is Michele Bonan, the Florentine wunderkind who has also worked on Ferragamo’s Lungarno properties in Florence and Rome. Those are delightful – especially the two signature hotels, Portrait Firenze and Portrait Roma. But somehow the JKs seem to spur Bonan on to create his most engaging and personal work.

View all our Gold List hotels on Expedia now

What can we expect from the bedrooms? In the corner suite, powder-blue walls bring the southern sky inside, Vesuvius framed in one window, the pool in the other. The tech was just fine. They’ll lend you a battery pack if your phone’s dying.

How about the food and drink? The restaurants of the hotel’s urban cousins are clubbish venues with high-end comfort food. Capri is different – perhaps because it’s not surrounded by great dining establishments. Neapolitan chef Eduardo Estatico is to the point and puts quality first. The delicate sea bass, served on a bed of almond cream, is incredible, as is an intense paste of olives from the Cilento region and a dab of steamed spinach. Breakfast is included – among the local specialities served is an irresistible smoked mozzarella from a small artisanal producer.

Anything stand out about the service? Both friendly and respectful. Most places of this level have dispensed with the stuffy check-in desk procedure these days – but the JKs were among the first in Italy to make de-stressing with a drink more of a priority than getting down those passport details. Go trekking with an expert guide: a walk up Monte Solaro or from fortress to fortress along the western shore brings home Capri’s wild side.

What type of person stays here? Well-travelled people, suave and confident Italy lovers – the vast majority will have been before, several times. They’re reading Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels, listening to Luigi Einaudi, and not following the herd in the way they dress – you’re as likely to see vintage here as Versace (vintage Versace would be just perfect).

What’s the neighbourhood scene like? The other smart hotels are either in chi-chi Capri town or its more rustic neighbour, Anacapri. JK Place is an exception in being down near Marina Grande, where the ferries from Naples and Capri dock. But it’s removed from the portside bustle and souvenir shops, a little way up the main road to Capri town, right above the beach. The only restaurant within walking distance is Capri classic Da Paolino Lemon Trees – touristy but fun. However, you’re just a ride away from new-dolce-vita restaurants such as Aurora or Mamma – or a boat ride away from Il Riccio, a little beach-club eaterie above the Blue Grotto.

Anything we missed? Space on this rocky island is at a premium so there’s only a small but well-run spa (with Sisley products) and a gym. And anything you’d change? Move the road that skirts the back of the hotel, which generates some background noise.

Is it worth it – why? Capri can be disappointing: so much of the glamour of the island is as dated as those Sixties open-top taxis that run you up to Capri Town, or the cheesy cabaret on nightly display at Anema e Core. JK Place makes Capri stylish and glamorous again. By Lee Marshall

How guest reviews work

Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system only for properties in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains), meaning that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.

You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.

We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.

Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.

Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

  • Politically sensitive comments
  • Promotional content
  • Illegal activities
  • Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
  • Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
  • Spam and fake content
  • Animal cruelty
  • Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
  • Any violation of our review guidelines.

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.

An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).

We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Guidelines and standards for Reviews

These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.

Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviews from real guests.

We have more than 70 million property reviews, and they're all from real, verified guests .

How does it work?

It starts with a booking.

The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

Followed by a trip

When guests stay at the property they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff are and more.

And finally, a review

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

J.K. PLACE CAPRI - UPDATED 2023 Hotel Reviews & Price Comparison (Italy) - Tripadvisor

jk place capri travel weekly

Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.

When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.

We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.

J.K. Place Capri

Subtle elegance, comfort and honed hospitality make J.K. Place Capri an alluring escape. Consider it La Dolce Vita on an island. For centuries, Capri has been a sought-after retreat, and the luxury hotel maximizes its exceptional sanctuary status with an incredible location and gorgeous design.

This design is integral to the J.K. personality. The property offers a whimsical interpretation of classical style in the guise of a private residence, and it is an oasis with elegantly designed rooms and suites, a swimming pool, a spa, a lounge and a restaurant where panoramic views are the priority.

The hotel’s central location makes it easy to explore Capri's famous landmarks, including the Blue Grotto, Marina Piccola, Villa Jovis, Piazzetta and Via Camerelle, the posh shopping street.

  • The design is endlessly chic with elements both classic and contemporary, like rich marble, columns and luxury fabrics. Italian designer Michele Bonan managed to capture the essence of home in the Capri hotel.
  • Find time to unwind at the spa. The wellness oasis boasts a lineup of bespoke sun and skin care treatments, along with signature Dr. Barbara Sturm facials.
  • Every window and balcony shows off views of the Capri coastline. Witness the most jaw-dropping sunset panoramas from the Lounge Bar.
  • The pool is a haven, but there is also dedicated access to the beach below.
  • The Marina Grande address is just enough away from the port and souvenir shops for relaxation and close enough to Capri town for the excitement.
  • The 22 rooms and suites (most of which face the sea) feature blue accents that bring the brilliant sky inside.
  • Rooms come outfitted with marble bathrooms, soft linens, Egyptian cotton towels, robes and flat-screen TVs.
  • For a romantic getaway, the Hideaway Superior Room has a private patio and a discreet outdoor pathway.

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

jk place capri travel weekly

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

jk place capri travel weekly

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

jk place capri travel weekly

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

jk place capri travel weekly

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

jk place capri travel weekly

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.
