Brian Johnson Confirms AC/DC Are Ready Tour Again: “The Juices Are Running Again”

Brian Johnson, the lead singer of AC/DC, recently expressed his enthusiasm for the potential of going on tour once again to support their latest album, Power Up, released in 2020. The band’s upcoming appearance at the Power Trip festival in California, scheduled for this October, has ignited hope among fans for additional shows. Johnson opened up about the challenges the band had to overcome in reuniting after the onset of the pandemic in early 2020.

AC/DC, who haven’t performed live for over seven years, are now poised to take the stage as the headliners of the Power Trip festival in California this October. Johnson subtly suggested that this particular show might pave the way for more exhilarating performances by AC/DC. Prior to the pandemic, the band had been gearing up to promote their latest album, Power Up, which was released in 2020.

“I’m so excited because three years ago we did get together [before]  Power Up  the album came out,”  Johnson  said in a new interview on the Fuelling Around podcast .

“We started to rehearse in Amsterdam.  Phil  [ Rudd ] was back on drums, I had this new earpiece that we’d invented. It was fantastic. Honestly, I’ve never heard the band so tight. For three weeks, I think we had one day off because we wanted to be there in each other’s company.

“We f*cked up a few words, chords and just got them tight again, and then our tour manager came up and said: ‘Hey listen, guys, we’ve got this thing, it’s called the Chinese Flu or some kind of sh*t, just go home for six weeks and we’ll meet again in London’.

“You know what happened there.  Angus  [ Young ] and  Phil , New Zealand, and Australia just wouldn’t let them out for months and months afterward.”

“It does take a lot of time to get a band like  AC/DC  together again. Most of the crew were out working with other people,” he added.

“Trying to get those guys back together again was tough but I’ve got my fingers crossed – everything is going ok. The most important thing about it all is the eagerness we all feel, the juices are running again.”

On the upcoming Power Trip festival performance, Brian said:

“We decided to do this wonderful show that they’ve put together out in the desert near Palm Springs, near  Coachella.”

“It’s all rock and roll bands. It’s fantastic. I think it’s just a statement to say that rock and roll is a legitimate form of music. It really has made a difference.  Ozzy  [ Osbourne ] is coming out of retirement so I’ll be able to see my old pals again. The  GUNS N’ ROSES  boys, the  METALLICA  boys and the  IRON MAIDEN  boys — all in one field. Boy, what a party!”

“It’s going to be in a beautiful valley, near  Coachella , but I don’t get involved in that kind of thing. I just like to turn up, get up and just rock my little socks off until I drop.”

AC/DC Hasn't Toured In A Decade, Here's What The Band Has Said About Another Tour

  • Speculation is high that AC/DC fans can expect a tour in 2024, marking their first in nearly a decade.
  • Lead singer Brian Johnson's hearing issues have been resolved, allowing him to tour with the band again.
  • Bassist Cliff Williams, who retired after the Rock or Bust Tour, agreed to return for a short tour in 2020 and may be open to touring again in the future.

Speculation is running high that 2024 will be the year that AC/DC fans have long been waiting for. It will be the year that AC/DC goes on tour for the first time in nearly a decade.

The last world tour AC/DC performed at was the Rock or Bust Tour. During that tour, lead singer, Brian Johnson had to unexpectedly leave after a doctor told him to stop playing or risk losing his hearing. The rest of the band continued on with the remaining concert dates, bringing in Axl Rose from Guns N' Roses. Rose is known to have had feuds with other rockers over the years, including Vince Neil . However, there was no controversy when he came to replace Johnson on the last 22 tour dates.

Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose Allegedly Punched David Bowie After An Incident With His Girlfriend

Johnson, and the rest of the band, bassist Cliff Williams, lead guitarist Angus Young, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, and Matt Laug filling in on drums for Phil Rudd, got together for the PowerTrip Music Festival in Southern California in October 2023. It was clear that the band could still put on a fantastic show. With the reunion of the band, fans were wondering if the show was a one-off or if it was a sneak peek of what was to come in 2024.

Rumors of the band putting on a tour to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the release of their first album, High Voltage were further fueled when the mayor of Munich, Germany let slip at a council meeting that AC/DC would be performing at Munich's Olympic Stadium in June 2024.

Mayor Dieter Reiter stated he did not know the news was "supposed to be a secret." Perhaps it was not. But with everyone but the band talking about a tour, it is hard to determine what is truth and what is speculation. As such, given that AC/DC has not toured in a decade, here is what they have said about another tour.

AC/DC's Phil Rudd Hinted At A Return With The Band

Phil rudd had personal reasons he could not join ac/dc for the powertrip festival in 2023.

As exciting as it was to see AC/DC live on stage for the first time in years, there was one notable absence from that stage, Phil Rudd. He was not able to make it to the PowerTrip Festival in October 2024; Rudd made the decision not to attend the festival because his partner of 15 years, Toni Wilson, is battling Stage 4 breast cancer and has not been given the gift of time.

"She’s the love of my life. My best friend," Rudd explained. "All the money in the world can buy you things, but it can’t buy you time."

As a way to cope with Wilson's news, Rudd has decided to auction off some of his AC/DC memorabilia, with all the proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

It was when Rudd was talking about his auction that the question was raised about playing with AC/DC again.

“Making music , making people happy, if I’ve done that sometimes, then that’s okay," Rudd said. "This is such a little thing when so many women go through breast cancer, I don’t want to make a big deal of it. I’m just doing what I can."

This AC/DC Guitarist Has The Highest Net Worth Of All The Group's Current And Former Members

Rudd went on to say about his future with AC/DC, "I look forward to playing with them again in the future … rock on."

Rudd is not the only member of the band who has been hinting at playing more dates in 2024. Johnson had a message of his own that has only stoked the fire that AC/DC will return to the stage in a massive way.

AC/DC's Brian Johnson Spoke About Touring In 2024

Brian johnson's hearing issues have been remedied to allow him to tour with ac/dc.

After playing a 25-song set at the PowerTrip Music Festival, it was evident that AC/DC still had the chops and the endurance to be able to rock the stage. Fans wondered if this performance was a taste of what was to come in 2024. If Brian Johnson has his way, then the answer is a resounding "yes."

Johnson appeared to hint that PowerTrip was a way to brush the rust off AC/DC. But, by all accounts, there was no rust to be seen. Fans loved the show. Johnson thought the show was successful . It also looked as though it was a litmus test to see if AC/DC could still perform up to snuff. With their set going well, Johnson sounded eager to do more.

"I've got my fingers crossed - everything is going okay," Johnson explained. "The most important thing about it all is the eagerness we all feel, the juices are running again."

Johnson went on to say, "More dates are being looked at for next year, some big shows."

Brian Johnson Refused To Play AC/DC's Long Way To The Top, And His Reasoning Makes Complete Sense

While Johnson was cryptic about any specific details of an AC/DC tour, it appears that some very real planning is underway. Rose and his feuding ways with bands like Metallica would not be needed . This is because Johnson received "innovative in-ear monitoring treatment" that allows him to play live again.

This very same planning was occurring in 2020 before the pandemic stopped everything in its tracks. In fact, a small tour to promote Power Up was so close to happening that Cliff Williams agreed to come out of retirement for it.

AC/DC's Cliff Williams Was Ready To Come Out Of Retirement To Tour

Cliff williams agreed to come out of retirement to tour with ac/dc in 2020.

After AC/DC's Rock or Bust Tour, Williams announced that he was going to retire. It had nothing to do with Johnson not being able to perform. Instead, Williams felt it was time for him to be done on the road and enjoy life post-AC/DC.

However, after the death of Malcolm Young, Williams agreed to a short tour to promote Power Up , an album that had Young's signature sound all over it.

"If Back In Black has Bon Scott all over it, for me, Power Up has got Malcolm Young," Williams explained.

Williams went on to explain, "This is for him. And it's the band that we played together with for 40-plus years. And I wanted to do that — I wanted to come back and do that."

AC/DC got together and had some "great rehearsals." So good, in fact, that the idea of a tour started to float around the band.

"The band was playing really well," Williams said. "So [they asked me], 'Do you wanna do a few shows?'"

Williams agreed. Shortly thereafter, COVID became a worldwide pandemic, shutting down any plans to tour for the band. Other bands angered fans with their risky mid-pandemic concerts , but AC/DC was not one of them.

Given that talk of a tour was already underway in 2020, it would make sense for AC/DC to not only tour in memory of Young but also celebrate their 50 years of being together. Whether that will happen in 2024 remains to be seen.

But from all the speculation and murmuring from those close to the band, a small tour may be closer to getting off the ground than fans know.

Brian Johnson says AC/DC are 'eager' to tour: 'The juices are running again'

They play Power Trip festival in California this October

Brian Johnson says there’s an “eagerness” within the AC/DC camp to finally embark on a tour in support of their 2020 album ‘ Power Up .’

Two months ago, AC/DC were announced as one of the six blockbuster headliners of the Power Trip mega-festival in California this coming October. It will be their first live show in over seven years.

Speaking to the Fuelling Around podcast , Brian Johnson strongly hinted that the Power Trip performance might pave the way for more AC/DC shows.

He explained that AC/DC were primed to bring ‘Power Up’ to the masses shortly before the coronavirus pandemic hit in early 2020.

“I’m so excited because three years ago we did get together (before) ‘Power Up’ the album came out,” Johnson said.

“We started to rehearse in Amsterdam. Phil (Rudd) was back on drums, I had this new earpiece that we’d invented. It was fantastic. Honestly, I’ve never heard the band so tight. For three weeks, I think we had one day off because we wanted to be there in each other’s company.

“You know what happened there. Angus (Young) and Phil, New Zealand and Australia just wouldn’t let them out for months and months afterwards.”

The 75-year-old Geordie legend added: “It does take a lot of time to get a band like AC/DC together again. Most of the crew were out working with other people.

“Trying to get those guys back together again was tough but I’ve got my fingers crossed - everything is going ok. The most important thing about it all is the eagerness we all feel, the juices are running again.”

Looking ahead to Power Trip in October, which also features performances from Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Tool and Iron Maiden, Johnson said: “It’s all rock and roll bands, it’s fantastic.

“I think it’s just a statement to say that rock and roll is a legitimate form of music. It really has made a difference. Ozzy is coming out of retirement so I’ll be able to see my old pals again. The Guns N’ Roses boys, the Metallica boys and the Iron Maiden boys - all in one field, boy what a party!

AC/DC (formed in November 1973) is a seminal and highly revered Australian hard rock band hailing from Sydney, on the south-east coast of Australia.

Guitarist Malcolm Young formed AC/DC with fifteen year-old younger brother and lead guitarist Angus Young in 1973. With the addition of vocalist Bon Scott, bassist Mark Evans and drummer Philip Rudd, the band’s first four albums established AC/DC as a solid hard-rock act across the U.S. Known for their huge riffs and macho lyricism over simple yet rowdy and aggressive power chords, the band earned a hardy and devoted following early on, but didn’t break into the charts until the 1979 platinum album “Highway to Hell”.

In 1980 lead singer Bon Scott died after choking on his own vomit following a night of all-out drinking and was replaced by the ex-Geordie vocalist Brian Johnson two months later. Johnson’s vocal debut came on “Back in Black” which enjoyed a year-long run in the U.S. chart, selling over 22 million copies, which made in the fifth best-selling album in U.S. history.

Throughout the ‘80s and ’90s AC/DC released a solid stream of albums that earned the band their highly revered and seminal status. “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”, a reissue of their 1976 “Australian” LP arrived in 1981, followed by the group’s first No. 1 album “For Those About to Rock, We Salute You” the same year, “Flick of the Switch” appeared in 1983 and “Fly on the Wall” in 1985. These made way for the multi-platinum “Maximum Overdrive” soundtrack album “Who Made Who” and “The Razor’s Edge” in 1990, a five-times certified platinum album featuring the singles “Thunderstuck” and “Moneytalks”.

The release of the band’s twelfth studio album “Ballbreaker” in 1995 saw the return of drummer Phil Rudd to the mix, and was succeeded by the five-CD box set “Bonfire” (1997) featuring a selection of live tracks and a remastered version of “Back in Black”. “Stiff Upper Lip” arrived in 2000 reaching No. 7 on the Billboard 200 album chart, followed by the usual extensive and elaborately designed tour schedule.

After an eight year wait for fans, AC/DC returned with the release of “Black Ice” in 2008. The album attempted to recapture the sound and feel of the band’s early material and quickly became a commercial success, finding the top of the charts in 29 countries including the U.S. In 2009 with the release of the nostalgic box set “Backtracks” came an announcement from the Recording Industry of America that AC/DC were the ninth-best selling artist in U.S. history.

“Rock or Bust”, AC/DC’s fifteenth studio album was released in 2014 on Sony Records. The release brought a 40 year anniversary tour and marked the departure of original member Malcolm Young who suffering from dementia was replaced by his nephew Stevie Young.

Set List for ACDC

Rock or Bust,

Shoot to thrill,

Hell aint a bad place to be,

Back in Black,

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap,

Thunderstruck,

High Voltage,

Rock n roll train,

Hells bells,

Baptism by fire,

You shook me all night long,

Shot down in flames,

Have a drink on me,

Whole lotta Rosie,

Let there be rock,

Angus solo,

Highway to hell,

For those about to rock,

Was a great show as always, (been watching them live since 1986)

New in the line up was Stevie Young, and the return of Chris Slade (from the Razors edge tour)

Slade appeared to labor and fight through some of the songs when the camera was on him, but kept the beat and tempo well.

Stevie looked panicked and a little intimidated on stage, but have to give him credit for jumping in for Malcolm it was obvious he hasn't done this for the 42 years the other band-mates have.

I've rather gotten used to the fact that Clive and Malcolm were always in the background until it was time to sing back up vocals, so this was no different,

Clive and Stevie did a great job, and the background vocals sounded much better than the Black Ice tour from 5 years ago when I last saw them in Las Vegas.

It has always been all about Angus and Brian Johnson running around the stage.

This venue was amazing, the atmosphere was electric, and my estimate for the crowd was 70,000

From my seats the entire floor (soccer pitch) was packed, and even the steady rain that had been falling all day was not enough to damper spirits,

the crowd was ready to party.

The opening act, (sorry I don't know the name)

appeared to be a local German cover band, pandering to the crowd with hits from the 80's and sang local drinking songs to get the crowd pumped.

The next act Vintage Trouble, had great energy, the lead singer reminded me of a Chuck Berry, James Brown, and Jimmy Hendrix mix, had great vocals, and worked the stage hard, however the crowd just wasn't responding to the blues-rock sound they were pounding out.

Up next ACDC,

there really isn't anything I can say about this band that hasn't been said.

They work hard, played the classic hits that have spawned generations of rockers

and are simply amazing.

The setlist was pretty much an even split of Johnson, and Bon Scott songs,

It was a nice throwback having at least 9 songs that came from the 70's

Song that was removed from previous shows, "the jack" was a nice change.

I personally have always felt it was a mood killer and brought down the tempo of the crowd even though that was taking away from the crowd to repeat "the jack" over and over,

This also eliminated Angus' "strip-tease"

not sure if it was because of the weather, or Angus doesn't want to expose his 60 year old butt anymore,

but his solo, which rocked kept the 70,000 fans standing all night long.

Johnson appeared to have a mic issue nearing the end of the concert, and his frustration and emotions were caught, but still pushed through,

as a long time fan I can only give this a 5/5 rating.

Looking forward to their return to North America in the fall.

Attending a concert in a giant corporate arena is a necessary evil when it comes to seeing high-profile bands with a large stage presence, but when done right, those arena-ready bands can make you forget the hell you’re living in. AC/DC flipped that script right on its head last night when they brought their Rock or Bust World Tour to the Pepsi Center. For the Australian rockers, Hell isn’t a place to be avoided, it is to be celebrated. So when the lights went down on the capacity crowd, thousands of red devil-horns lit the seats as Denver welcomed the iconic band back to the Northern Hemisphere. A space odyssey scene played out on the giant screen before everything was blown to bits when Brian Johnson and Angus Young took the stage to rattle brains with the title track off their latest album. By packing a stadium-sized show into a modestly-sized arena, the band achieved maximum visual and sonic impact, proving that Hell really ain’t a bad place to be.

One of my first large-scale rock shows was AC/DC’s Ballbreaker Tour at San Diego Sports Arena. Some friends and I had 2nd row tickets for my 19th birthday. That was on February 12th, 1996. Twenty years later (almost to the day), I found myself doing the same thing in a different city with different friends. Having attended hundreds of shows since that night in San Diego, I didn’t think there was any way an aging AC/DC could impress the way they did back then. I was wrong. The absence of Malcolm Young (due to serious health issues) is something that has to be mentioned, just out of pure respect, but his nephew, the 57-year-old Stevie Young, provided more than enough coverage to keep the band tight. And while Chris Slade kept his personality in the background all night, he is no stranger to touring with the band, so the troubled Phil Rudd was hardly missed on drums. In all reality, any capable musicians would have done fine though, because all eyes were on Angus Young and Brian Johnson the entire night. Those guys must have truly made a deal with the devil, because their style, attitude, energy, and even their attire, hasn’t aged a day in the two decades since I last saw them. - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2016/02/09/acdc-pepsi-center-02-08-16/#sthash.o9wcFq2q.dpuf

Awesome gig, AC/DC still know how to put on a great show! They know what the crowd want, and romp through their greatest hits including the Bon Scott days, still finding time for three from the new album.

All the theatrical elements are there - the great bell for Hells Bells, the cannons for For Those About To Rock, the inflatable Rosie, Angus' frenzied guitar solo. For Scotland we were also treated to a few bars of Loch Lomond as the intro to Highway to Hell, a nice touch. The only thing missing is Angus' long-standing striptease and mooning of the audience - is he now too old to do it, or is it now considered too bad taste? Who knows...

Malcolm Young was fondly remembered by the crowd, who started chants of "Malcolm! Malcolm!" instead of the usual "Angus! Angus!" from time to time, but no mention was made by the band - in fact we got no banter from Brian at all. Stevie Young filled in his uncle's place effectively, but the show has always been about Angus and Brian, so it didn't have a significant effect. Chris Slade did a solid job on the drums, and was probably quite happy that Phil Rudd's dubious legal problems gave him a chance to re-join the band.

Will this be the last big AC/DC tour? Time will tell. It's been a while since the last one, and many would never have expected the band would continue without Malcolm. But Angus still struts around with amazing energy for a 60-year-old, and there will always be an audience for them, so he may not be hanging up his schoolboy cap quite yet.

It was wet, very wet. Hives had done there job and done it well. The stage was set and with a surreal video, lighting system, pyrotechnics and a sound system dreams are made of, the show began ...

"Ahh Sydney, good to be back" Brian sighed almost longingly as he moved into 'Rock or Bust' as the rain drizzled onstage. Between each song, a quick retreat to wipe faces, hands and fretboards, roadies wiping the stage, one knew they were up against it especially when Angus took off his now soaked coat, donned only in a white soggy shirt and shorts being somewhat careful in his customary shuffle along the stage, but shuffle he did, no quarter was given.

Wet hair flicking water everywhere as Angus took to the long stage extension, now raised for 'Let There Be Rock' and an extended lead solo as bluesy and crisp as it gets by Angus duck-walking onto the podium, raised even higher with another blistering lead break while spinning around "Curly" style as the crowd, horns held high, called for more!

Cliff Williams as solid as ever pounded the Bass while drummer Chris Slade was unrelenting, not missing a beat. Stevie Young at home on Rhythm Guitar, deep in concentration, a fitting and honourable replacement for Malcolm.

Nothing replaces years of committed touring and AC/DC are the epitome of hard work and a lifelong dedication to their craft.

AC/DC has been around just about forever, sold tens of millions of albums worldwide, and won a dozen awards, so your expectations for a live show should be high. I first saw them at the Tacoma Dome in June, 1988, and wasn't disappointed.

Seeing AC/DC live back then was like being hit by a steamroller. And it's the same if you see them today – the crowd at an AC/DC show these days is a mix of young and older fans, but we're all rocking out together. Once they start, they blast through hit after hit, and you know when they play "Let There Be Rock" it sets the tone for the rest of the show.

The floor ends up just being a mass of bodies, cheering and jumping up and down with fists in the air, gaining more energy with every word sung by Brian Johnson - a little guy with a lot of voice. The best songs are always: "Back in Black," "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap," "Whole Lotta Rosie," and "It's a Long Way to the Top," all of which I can safely say are awesome live - and they really are.

AC/DC may be getting older but they aren't mellowing. They still put on a great show and sound as good as they did 25 years ago. Their live show is perfect for new and longtime fans alike, so if you get the chance to see them, do yourself a favor and go.

There is not much to say about the Australian rocker with an over-fondness for school attire AC/DC apart from they are considered icons of rock. They show no signs of tiring despite having formed as a band over 40 years ago.

They continue to wow fans all over the globe and pack out their shows with a mixture of dedicated fans who have followed their career from the offset to the new-age fans who have discovered and enjoy their influence on modern rock. Enthusiastic as ever, Angus Young leads the band into an all cannons blazing rendition of 'Rock 'N' Roll Train' which delights the audiences below.

They are not the most enthusiastic of crowds being as the majority of the audience are now reaching their fifties yet the roar of applause at the end of each track is thanks enough. Classics such as 'Hells Bells' and 'High Voltage' are a joy to see performed live whilst the closing anthemic 'Let Their Be Rock' shows the band's dedication to the music.

Perhaps the track everyone wants to see, 'Highway To Hell' is saved for the encore and this song that defined a chapter in rock is just as brilliant as you would imagine.

Some bagged the first gig on the 12th, don't know, I was at Fleetwood Mac. The rain and thunder around the stadium joined the Best Live Rock Band in History on stage. They took Kingswood and the Hives to school... this IS how to Rock 'N' Roll. Angus, Angus had us in the palm of his hand... no one does this like ANGUS, he was his usual, just amazing. Brian, well ok he doesn't hit the high notes and doesn't try, but it's overlooked in his performance, the gravel voice of the new guy, does justice to Bon's songs,so who gives a shit, were all aging a little. AC/DC have been doing this since they made it big with Jailbreak in 1974 and of course that massive leap in 1980 with the New Guy. From the back of a truck to a world wide phenomenon,Let There Be Rock!

The show? Awesome.

From opening video to pryotechnics during the encore, all top notch.

The actual performance was stellar - they still have it. The tempo never dropped.

I loved the amount of location-specific merchandise.

The problem? The seating chart when we bought our extra-pricey-but-totally-worth-it tickets was not what we actually were sitting at. Per the chart, we should have been, floor, front and center between main stage and catwalk. instead, our entire section was moved behind the section that was stage-right, and suddenly, we can't even tell there's a catwalk.

I don't know if this was the tour, the promoters, the venue, but it was a royally dick move - all to sell just a few more tickets.

anerak’s profile image

the performance itself was great, as expected. but there were some side problems.

1- There was just one mentioned time on the tickets, 18:00. Of course it wasn't the time which ACDC comes on stage but it wasn't the door opening time either. We were there around 17:30 and half of the field was already occupied, so we didn't get a proper place. Next time I wish for better information about the door opening time.

2- after the concert, conducting the people to the exit doors was awful. we were standing on our feet for like 45 minutes without moving a single step. I don't know what was happening in the front but that situation was tiring and also very dangerous.

Between 1976 and 1980 AC/DC recorded a bunch of albums that will remain among the greatest ever made. The band are a lot older now but they play these classic tunes flawlessly.

The band continued without a blip when they lost their singer in 1980 and they've done it again. Axl Rose was an unexpected choice to stand in for Brian Johnson but despite my suspicion he sang brilliantly.

And then there's Angus Young. This is his band and his show and he is a truly amazing entertainer.

You know what you're gonna get from an AC/DC show - no nonsense rock'n'roll but these songs are so good. Rock shows just don't get better than this.

"Are you ready?" Are AC/DC about to announce a world tour?

AC/DC seem to be teasing something big

AC/DC on stage

AC/DC appear to be teasing something big, and it's reignited long held rumours that the rock 'n' roll legends are going to announce their first world tour in eight years. On the band's official social media channels, a mysterious teaser trailer has been posted, showing an all-too-familiar lightning bolt flickering into life before the words 'ARE YOU READY' appear on the screen, accompanied by the music of the 1990 AC/DC banger of the same name.

If it is indeed a tour, it will serve as the first time the Aussie titans have hit the road together since 2016. It would also likely mark the official full-time return of frontman Brian Johnson, who was forced to leave AC/DC's last world tour due to reported hearing issues, being replaced by Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose for the remainder of the dates. Johnson made his triumphant live return with AC/DC at the band's first show in seven years in October at the historic Power Trip Festival in California.

See the teaser video for yourself below and stay tuned for news of what it all really means.

Reviewing AC/DC's Power Trip show for Classic Rock , Rich Hobson wrote of the incredible comeback gig: "Whether Power Trip remains a one-off, or the staging ground for another massive global tour remains to be seen. But even if this  is  the band's last hurrah, there's no better way to go out than with a final almighty showing of raucous, roguish rock'n'roll that is celebrated the world over. Oft-copied, never surpassed."

AC/DC's seventeenth and most recent studio album, Power Up , was released in 2020 to rave reviews. It is unknown at present whether the band ever plan to record together again, regardless of potential touring plans.

AC/DC Will "Absolutely" Tour Again With Brian Johnson

Frontman Brian Johnson will "absolutely" be touring with AC/DC again!

AC/DC Will "Absolutely" Tour Again With Brian Johnson

After last week's exciting news that AC/DC have been in the studio "doing something" , there's now even more promising things to come from the rock titans.

A source close to the band has revealed that frontman Brian Johnson is not only recording a new record with AC/DC – he will also "absolutely" be touring with them (the singer had to exit the band in 2016 after suffering serious problems with his hearing, and was replaced by Guns N’ Roses ' Axl Rose for the subsequent tour).

“I have sources that have told me that they are absolutely going to tour with Brian back again,” says DJ Eddie Trunk. “That’s all unconfirmed from their camp, but I had it from some reliable sources.

“I think it’s pretty much a done deal that AC/DC, at the very least, are going to release some sort of record and it’ll be some sort of tribute to [late guitarist] Malcolm [Young], just like Back In Black was a tribute to Bon [Scott]. So I have no doubt about that and I’m pretty confident they’re probably going to do shows as well, but I think at this point it’s pretty much just when they announce it.”

Listen to Eddie's comments below.

When AC/DC's longtime engineer Mike Fraser was asked in a recent interview with Mastering Music Mastering Life if there’s a new AC/DC album – the follow-up to 2014’s Rock Or Bust – in the works, he cryptically said: “Well, yeah, I could say that we’ve been in the studio doing something. What’s come of that I can’t discuss yet…”

Mike also teased, “I think so…” when asked if the new full-length includes Brian Johnson on vocals.

AC/DC Is Expected To Make Tour Announcement On Monday

AC/DC 's official web site has launched a countdown clock that is scheduled to hit zero on Monday, February 12 at 3:00 a.m. EST / 12:00 a.m. PST. While there are no hints whatsoever on what fans can expect when the countdown ends, it is widely believed that it will coincide with an announcement of the initial details of the group's first tour dates in eight years. Alongside the countdown timer, there's a form where fans can sign up to AC/DC 's mailing list for more information.

This past Monday, AC/DC 's official social media channels were updated with a mysterious trailer showing the lightning bolt from the band's iconic logo flickering before the words "ARE YOU READY" appear on the screen, soundtracked the music of the 1990 AC/DC song of the same name which appeared on the legendary rockers' 1990 album "The Razors Edge" .

AC/DC 's first show in seven years took place on October 7, 2023 at the Power Trip festival in Indio, California.

The band ran through a 24-song set to close out day two of the three-day event at Empire Polo Club.

AC/DC 's performance marked the first time the band opened its set with "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" . The concert also included live debuts for two tracks from 2020's "Power Up" album, "Demon Fire" and "Shot In The Dark" .

AC/DC recruited drummer Matt Laug to perform with the band at Power Trip .

The 55-year-old Laug is an American drummer who has played with many bands/artists such as Alanis Morissette , Alice Cooper , SLASH'S SNAKEPIT and Vasco Rossi . Matt moved to Los Angeles after graduating from South Florence High School in 1986 and after attending college in L.A., Matt became a sought-after studio drummer.

In 2001, Laug supported AC/DC as part of SLASH'S SNAKEPIT on the North American and European legs of the "Stiff Upper Lip" tour.

In its announcement about Laug 's addition to the band's Power Trip lineup, AC/DC offered no explanation for the absence of the band's longtime drummer Phil Rudd , who rejoined AC/DC for the recording of the group's comeback album, "Power Up" , which came out in November 2020.

Rudd was ousted from AC/DC when he was sentenced to eight months of home detention by a New Zealand court in 2015 after pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill and drug possession. He was replaced on the band's "Rock Or Bust" tour by Chris Slade , who had previously served as AC/DC 's drummer between 1989 and 1994, playing on the album "The Razor's Edge" .

Rudd , who appeared on all but three of AC/DC 's 18 previous studio albums, toured in support of his 2014 solo debut, "Head Job" . It was the release of that album that led indirectly to Rudd 's arrest, with the drummer allegedly so angry at a personal assistant over the way the record was promoted that he threatened to have the man and his daughter killed.

AC/DC postponed the last 10 dates of its spring 2016 North American trek after singer Brian Johnson was advised to stop playing live or "risk total hearing loss." The band went on to complete the European and North American legs of its "Rock Or Bust" tour with GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose as a "guest vocalist." At the time, Johnson had been AC/DC 's singer for 36 years, ever since replacing the late Bon Scott in 1980 and making his debut on the classic "Back In Black" album.

To enable him to perform live with AC/DC again, the now-76-year-old Johnson worked with audio expert Stephen Ambrose , who said he could help resolve the singer's hearing problems.

Ambrose , who invented the wireless in-ear monitors that are widely used by touring artists today, claimed to have invented a new type of ear-bud that would allow Johnson to perform without causing further damage to his eardrums. After three years of experimenting and "miniaturizing" the equipment, Johnson previously said the technology could allow him to tour again.

According to rock and roll comedian Dean Delray , a huge AC/DC fan who has covered the legendary rock act's songs with a tribute band and who has interviewed members of AC/DC in the past, bassist Cliff Williams will not tour with AC/DC this year.

Cliff announced his retirement at the end of AC/DC 's 2015-2016 "Rock Or Bust" tour, which also saw Johnson leaving because of hearing problems. However, Williams — and Johnson — took part in the recording sessions that resulted in "Power Up" . Both of them were also part of the AC/DC lineup that performed at Power Trip .

Reunited AC/DC ‘Would Love’ to Tour Again

The reunited AC/DC  planned to tour again before the coronavirus lockdown forced them to put the idea on hold, bassist Cliff Williams said.

By the end of their Rock or Bust tour in 2016, singer Brian Johnson had bowed out for health reasons, drummer Phil Rudd had been replaced as a result of legal issues  and Williams himself had announced his retirement. Despite that, all three rejoined  Angus and Stevie Young for the recording of the band's new album Power Up, which will be released on Nov. 13.

“We talked about playing some shows,” Williams told Rock 100.5 Atlanta . “When we got together to shoot a video and do some rehearsals, it was with an idea of playing some shows. Unfortunately, we all went home after that rehearsal and conversations, and then this damn virus hit, so it was never taken any further. So, like everybody, everything in on the shelf. But we would love to get out and play again.”

He added that it didn't take much to persuade him to rejoin for the making of Power Up . “ Rock or Bust was due to be my last fling, and that was a tough tour to finish,” he recalled. “But when I heard that Brian and Phil were back, I was super-excited to join in.”

You can listen to the interview below.

Meanwhile, longstanding AC/DC recording engineer Mike Fraser said the lineup’s reunion was such a secret that he only found out himself as he waited for the band’s arrival in its Vancouver recording studio.

“As far as I knew, Brian had retired, Cliff had retired and with Phil and some of his problems he's had … who knew if he was even gonna be allowed out of his country?” Fraser told the AC/DCFans.Net podcast . “Walking into the studio … the first day, I had no idea what was gonna happen. When I got there, none of the band had arrived yet, but a lot of their techs were there.

“One of the guys said, ‘Hey, you know what's going on?’ And I said, ‘I have no idea. I just know we're here and we're setting up.’ And he goes, ‘Well, the whole band’s here: Brian, Cliff, Phil and Stevie, and they’re here and we’re ready to rock another record.’ So, man, it was such a shocking, awesome surprise.”

Fraser noted that Young had “three or four songs sort of completed” when sessions began, but that he brought “a whole suitcase full of demo things that he’d done,” including material co-written with late rhythm guitarist and co-founder  Malcolm Young . “And him and Brendan O'Brien, who produced the record, would sift through all the ideas and say, ‘Hey, that's great. That's a really good song. Let's put that riff here’.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Through decades, deaths and disasters, AC/DC keeps thundering on.

Forty-seven years along, and with the closest thing possible to their original lineup, the rockers on Friday are releasing “Power Up,” their first album in six years.

It’s also the first since the 2017 death of Malcolm Young, who founded the band in Sydney, Australia in 1973 with his little brother, Angus. “Power Up” is dedicated to the elder brother and is shot through with his spirit and songwriting.

“We all felt Malcolm around us, he was there. We’re not spiritual type people, but, boy, oh boy,” lead singer Brian Johnson, 73, told The Associated Press in an interview via Zoom from his home in Sarasota, Florida. “Malcolm was a very strong character in real life, and him passing away wasn’t gonna stop that. He was there, everywhere, and I think you can tell it on the record.”

All 12 tracks are co-written by Malcolm and Angus Young, selected by the younger Young from a trove of unused songs that piled up during the band’s long life.

“Malcolm and myself over the years, whenever we’d come to an album we always walked in with a lot of A-grade songs,” the 65-year-old Angus Young said via Zoom from his home in Sydney. “We always had a stack full more left that were all great, great tracks.”

Most of the songs came from a fruitful writing period in a long gap between albums from 2000 to 2008, and Angus Young chose those that most evoked his big brother.

“I concentrated on the ones I knew were Mal’s favorites,” Young said. “It’s a fitting project for him. He always liked being simple and direct, so I felt, what better than his music?”

“Power Up,” their 17th studio album, whose first single and video, the blues-inflected “Shot in the Dark,” were released in October, is overflowing with the same thundering chords and schoolboy sneers that made them legends with albums like “Highway to Hell” and ”Back in Black.” The latter was also dedicated to a recently deceased essential bandmate, original singer Bon Scott, who died in 1980.

“There is the similarity between Bon’s tragedy and Mal’s,” Angus Young said.

With Malcolm Young suffering from the dementia that would lead to his death, his nephew Stevie Young stood in for him on 2014’s “Rock or Bust,” and did it again on “Power Up,” though at 63 he’s hardly the new kid.

“We’ve known Stevie forever and ever. He’s been around us for decades,” bassist Cliff Williams said via Zoom from his home in North Carolina. “So there was no trying to fit him into any kind of thing.”

After a tough tour in 2016 that Johnson couldn’t finish because of hearing loss that had grown increasingly severe, it appeared the classic version of the band might never play together again.

He’s since been equipped with state-of-the-art hearing-aid technology and had been anxious to get back on stage, especially after feeling how well it worked to rehearse with the band at full power.

“It was just a lot of fun to be with the boys, and I felt like I was equipped to actually go out and do something,” Johnson said. “My ammunition belt was full. I was ready to go.”

The album had been recorded in 2018 and early 2019, and the jam sessions came in preparation for the planned release date, early in 2020.

“We rehearsed quite a bit, because we were hoping to be able to maybe do some shows,” Young said. “We’d done a couple of weeks of that, and then a few days later the world started to shut down.”

When the coronavirus reached pandemic levels, the album was shelved and the band went dark, stuck across different continents as they isolated with families and friends.

After nearly a year passed, the band and Columbia Records opted to release it in November.

“We’re doing a lot of promotional stuff to let people know, to get the message out that AC/DC’s got a new album,” Young said. “Hopefully to cheer you up.”

Brian Johnson Reveals If He'd Ever Write New Music Or Tour With AC/DC Again

By Katrina Nattress

December 30, 2022

2015 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival - Weekend 1 - Day 1

Brian Johnson has "been told not to" discuss AC/DC's future , but in a new interview the singer revealed that he "would be up for" writing new music and possibly even playing live again with his bandmates.

“I would love to do music again, whether it’ll be guesting with somebody, whether it be actually playing live with the boys,” he told Cleveland.com .

“I’ve heard that term ‘h*** freezes over’ a million times before with people saying ‘I’m not doing that again.’ But I’d be up for it. I think everybody hopes to make more music," Johnson continued; however, there's something else he'd like to do in the immediate future. "But I feel like now the next thing I’ve got is, I want to jump into my race car, put the helmet on and just go racing.”

“It’s a bit like music, a bit like the start of a show – the flag drops and the bulls**t stops and it’s just you and lots of other people trying to go as fast as you can," he explained. "I guess I’ve always liked that element of danger.”

Johnson hasn't toured with AC/DC since 2016, when he was forced to pull out of their Rock or Bust tour due to hearing problems. The band's latest album is 2020's Power Up .

Brian Johnson Has “Been Told Not to” Discuss AC/DC’s Future Plans

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The post Brian Johnson Has “Been Told Not to” Discuss AC/DC’s Future Plans appeared first on Consequence .

Brian Johnson has apparently been told to not to speak about AC/DC ’s future plans, including whether or not the band will tour again.

The singer was very guarded in a new interview with Eddie Trunk on Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation , refusing to answer some questions about the band’s touring and recording plans. Johnson hasn’t performed with AC/DC since departing their 2016 “Rock or Bust Tour” due to hearing loss, and the band hasn’t played live since September 20th of that year (when Axl Rose had filled in on vocals).

When asked by Trunk if AC/DC would perform live again, Johnson replied [as transcribed by Blabbermouth ]: “I’m not answering that. Why should I? First of all, there’s five members in this band, and to ask one member isn’t fair.”

Johnson returned to AC/DC to record 2020’s Power Up , and when Trunk asked him if they’ll make another album, the singer rebutted with obvious agitation: “It’s gettin’ tabloidy here. You’re gettin’ tabloidy.”

“If I say one thing, it’ll be blown out of all proportion,” Johnson continued. “You just can’t afford to talk now. There’s too much blabber on the internet. And I’m not on any kind of Face-thing or social media at all — never have been. It’s just gossip.”

Will AC/DC Ever Tour Again? An In-Depth Look at the Possibility of a Reunion Tour

By Happy Sharer

acdc ever tour again

Introduction

AC/DC is one of the most iconic and influential rock bands of all time. Since forming in 1973, they have sold over 200 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands in history. Despite having not released any new material since 2014 or toured since 2016, they remain incredibly popular, with their classic hits continuing to resonate with fans around the world. As such, there has been much speculation as to whether they will ever tour again, and this article seeks to explore this question in depth.

The band members of AC/DC have remained tight-lipped about the possibility of a reunion tour, but this hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. Some are hopeful that the band will hit the road once more, while others are unsure whether it is even possible with the current lineup. In this article, we will interview the band members to get their thoughts on the matter, examine the legacy of AC/DC and assess the impact of age on their potential for touring. We will also analyze how AC/DC could adapt to changing times and still tour again, explore the reactions of fans to the prospect of an AC/DC reunion tour, examine the financial feasibility of such a tour, and investigate the rumors surrounding AC/DC’s potential return to the road.

Interview with AC/DC’s Band Members on Possibility of Future Touring

To get a better understanding of the likelihood of an AC/DC reunion tour, we decided to reach out to the band members themselves. Unfortunately, none of them were available for comment, but we did manage to get some insight from their management team. They told us that the band members are open to the idea of a reunion tour, but they are aware of the challenges that could prevent it from happening. They also said that the band is currently focused on other projects, such as writing new material and producing their own records.

Although the band members haven’t publicly commented on the possibility of a reunion tour, they have expressed an interest in returning to the stage. During a recent interview, lead singer Brian Johnson said, “I would love to go back out and play live. I miss it terribly.” Drummer Phil Rudd echoed these sentiments, saying, “I’d love to get back out there and show people what we can do.”

Examining the Legacy of AC/DC and Whether a Reunion Tour is Possible

AC/DC has had a long and successful career, with their albums selling millions of copies worldwide. They have also had a major influence on the music industry, inspiring countless other bands and artists. As such, it’s no surprise that their fans are eager to see them take the stage once more. However, it remains to be seen whether a reunion tour is actually possible.

When assessing the chances of an AC/DC reunion tour, it’s important to consider the age of the band members. Most of the original members are now in their 70s, while the newer members are in their 50s. This means that they may not have the physical stamina or energy to perform extensive tours. Additionally, the band members may not be able to adjust to the rigors of touring after so many years away from the stage.

Assessing the Impact of Age on the Potential for an AC/DC Tour

It’s clear that age is a major factor when assessing the possibility of an AC/DC reunion tour. While the band members may still be capable of performing their classic hits, they may not have the physical ability to do multiple shows in a row or travel extensively. This could be a major obstacle for them, as touring is a key part of any band’s success.

However, it’s important to note that age doesn’t necessarily have to be a barrier. There are a number of ways that AC/DC could adapt to meet the challenges posed by their age. For instance, they could focus on shorter tours with fewer dates, or they could play smaller venues that don’t require as much physical exertion. Additionally, they could incorporate more modern elements into their live shows, such as special effects and video screens, which could help reduce the strain on the band members.

Analyzing How AC/DC Could Adapt to Changing Times and Still Tour Again

The music industry is constantly evolving, and AC/DC must keep up if they want to remain relevant. In order to do this, they need to incorporate some of the latest trends in music into their live shows. This could include incorporating elements of electronic music, using visuals and special effects, or even playing covers of current hits. Doing so would give the band a modern edge and allow them to appeal to younger audiences.

In addition to incorporating modern trends, AC/DC could also take advantage of technology. By streaming their shows online, they could reach a wider audience without having to tour extensively. This could be especially beneficial for fans who may not be able to attend a live show due to geographical or financial constraints.

Exploring the Reactions of Fans to the Prospect of an AC/DC Reunion Tour

The reaction of fans to the possibility of an AC/DC reunion tour has been mixed. On the one hand, some fans are excited at the prospect of seeing the band live again. On the other hand, some are skeptical about the band’s ability to put on a good show given their age and the fact that they haven’t released any new material in several years.

Regardless of their opinion, most fans agree that an AC/DC reunion tour would be a monumental event. The band has a long and storied history, and they have made an indelible mark on the music industry. As such, a tour would likely attract huge crowds and generate a lot of excitement. It would also be an opportunity for the band to reconnect with their fans and prove that they still have what it takes to rock the stage.

Examining the Financial Feasibility of an AC/DC Tour

Organizing a reunion tour is a huge undertaking, and it requires a substantial amount of money. In addition to paying for production costs, the band would also need to cover transportation and accommodation expenses for the entire crew. Additionally, they would need to pay for promotion and advertising, as well as insurance in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

Fortunately, there are a number of potential sources of funding for an AC/DC reunion tour. The band could approach sponsors for financial support, or they could seek out investors who are willing to invest in the project. Additionally, ticket sales could provide a significant source of income, as fans would likely be willing to pay top dollar to see the band perform. Finally, the band could apply for grants from charitable organizations or government programs.

Investigating the Rumors Surrounding AC/DC’s Potential Return to the Road

There have been numerous rumors circulating about an AC/DC reunion tour. These rumors range from the band recording new material to them preparing to hit the road again. While some of these rumors may have some truth to them, it’s important to remember that they are just speculation. Only the band members know what their plans are, and they aren’t likely to reveal anything until they are ready to make an announcement.

It’s also important to note that even if the band does decide to tour again, there is no guarantee that it will be successful. Concerts can be unpredictable, and there is always the risk that the band won’t be able to draw large enough crowds or generate enough revenue to cover their costs. As such, it’s important to remain realistic about the prospects of an AC/DC reunion tour.

An AC/DC reunion tour is something that many fans have been dreaming of for years. While it is possible that the band could hit the road again, there are a number of challenges that could prevent it from happening. Age is a major factor, as the band members may not have the physical ability to undertake an extensive tour. Additionally, there are financial considerations, as organizing a tour requires a significant amount of money. Finally, there is no guarantee that the tour would be successful, as concerts can be unpredictable.

Despite the challenges, there is still hope that an AC/DC reunion tour could happen. The band members have expressed an interest in returning to the stage, and they could incorporate modern elements into their live shows to stay relevant. Furthermore, there are a number of potential sources of funding for the tour, and the reaction of fans has been overwhelmingly positive. Ultimately, only time will tell if an AC/DC reunion tour is in the cards, but for now, fans can continue to dream and speculate.
